This is Later with Lee Matthews The Lee Matthews Podcast. More of what You here weekday afternoons on the Drive. So glad I had this guy along because I'm a big fan. Larry the Cable Guy. Multi platinum recording artist, Grammy nominee, Billboard Award winner, and one of the top comedians in the country. He also makes love like a fire breathing dragon, and he's joining
us. Now, Hi, Larry, where did that? They mast have made a mistake on my Wikipedia. I guess the question is if you if you do make love like a fire breathing dragon, how do I know? Right right now? It's like a the GM Chico. I gotta lose some weight. Well, that summer has been good to me. I got on the trampoline with my kids the other day, did two jump and I had to get off a dead day. You know, I wasn't tired. I had to get a ladder to get my kids out of a tree. I
need it. But I'm but I'm doing my best show. I'm I'm trying to eat better things. You can. Let me just say this though, for people, if you don't know if you're overweighted or not, here's how you can tell if you're too fat. All right, you go to ghostry store, you go to the ten items or last line and just slip in a kit cat bar. Okay, when you get to the end, if she looks at you and goes, do you want this in the badge or do you want to take it with you? That's when you know you're too
fat. When the when the girl working the registers sizing you up to try to guess what item of food you can't wait to eat on the way to the car, or we're still Larry the cable guy. You go to the self check out on the computer asks you that question. Boy, that would be even worse right there. I hate those self checkouts, you know, it's like all the fun of working at the grocery store without the paycheck. Yeah, yeah, the three million dollars they go, they go, they
go to that self pitchout tone that saves time you go in. You do it. You're hitting that. I waited behind a guy for twenty minutes. Are you trying to find a barcode on a cucumber? Yeah? Or oh I put two in the I only need one and you have to call the attendant over. Uh Larry the Cable Guy's going to be here in town at the National Reigning Horse Association top show, the one hundred X Reigning Classic, and it is going on now until Sunday. It's a three million dollars total
purse. But we've got all of the National Reigning Horse performers that are performing at this as well as Larry the Cable Guy. And he's also going to be joined by Curb Records recording artist Dylan Scott. So it ought to be a good time. This is your element, Larry. Oh heck yeah, I'm I'm all about that. Bit of a big rodeo fan. My whole life had a rodeo team, a still sponsor, Shally Lord. She's a barrel racer. My daughter is trying to figure out how to do barrels.
My wife we riot all the time. I've had horses since as a kid, so yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I always have. I had a horse long time ago. You know, I used to do that joke about my horse broke its leg and I had to shoot it, and then it had a broken leg and a gunshot womb. Yeah, I had no idea why they said to shoot him, because it never makes him any better. I know that much. Well. I grew up around horses two mainly quarter horses, and these reining horse guys. These guys are really uh
this is this is heavy duty stuff. And the barrel racers too, you know. Ever since Biden's been in office, some quarter horses they've changed their names to penny horse. Yes, Larry the cable guy is going to be with us at the three million dollars one hundred Raining Classic going on in Tulsa, and that will be at the Tulsa expos Square until Sunday. So you've you've not slowed down one bit with your your performing. Well, no, I actually have my kids. Here's the story real quick. My kids grew
up on the tour bus. Basically, I did two hundred and eighty seven nights on the road a year in the tour bus, and that figgered up to about two hundred and jee's two hundred and sixty shows. I think I did two hundred and forty shows something like that. But we lived on a tour bus. And then when my kids, when my kids got old enough to go to a high school, we home schooled all the way to ninth grade. Oh goodness, uh yeah, and so h I said, I'm
gonna slow down. So I only do I do twenty four shows a year, and then I do Uh, and then I do Jeff and I have my own station on Serious Exam and then I do a show there once a week live, and then I do a ton of video games and and voices for me U, for cartoons and stuff like that. Anyway, I did, I did, I did until everybody started striking. Yeah. Well, I was going to ask how the pandemic affected your material? Did it if you more material to work with? Yeah, he gave me a ton of
material, that's for sure a fact. But I, in my case, when the pandemic hit, I was kind of ready to get off the road anyway. So for me, it was kind of of course, I hated it. Obviously, nobody liked it. I was very fortunate and blessed to have had a really nice career, so I was one of I was able to you know, uh, wait it out. Yeah, and to me, it was nice to be able to stay home and be with my family. But no, I hated it. I was I don't get me started
on it. Let's just put it that way, all right, Whatever you felt about it. It is probably how I felt about how's that sound. He's going to be at the INAUGURAB one hundred X Raining Classic going on now at the Tulsa X Square. I know one thing, you couldn't find any dead gum toilet paper you were That's thing I could That's the one thing I couldn't figure out about it. People buying up toilet paper. What in the
world. And if you've seen the toilet paper that up and cost goo and stuff, that them rules a toilet paper the size of Fred Blmstone's front tire. For Heaven's sakes. I mean they're like, don't squeeze the charman. I can't lift that gun, Charman. Look at the size of it. And if you're buying that much toilet paper, you really got some sort of help problem. You need to get to the doctor. Shake your your your toilet is gonna take a knee, for Heaven's shake you got you got that
gum. Rhodo Router sending you birthday guards and gifts. Larry the Cable Guy appearing at the inaugural one hundred Raining Classic. It's going on now. It's also Expo Square through the weekend through the end of the weekend. He'll be there also Dylan Scott, the recording artist, so it'll be a good show and we're looking forward to seeing your Larry the cable guy man. I am so looking forward to it, and you're right, it is my ailment. I'm you know, I'm a I'm a I'm a country kid and my best
friend lives in South Coffeeville, Oklahoma. And my buddy Marty, he's an auctioneer. I always want to play an auctioneer as well, but I went to the other direction. So I love coming to Oklahoma and I love doing all that. Just got done doing the Professional bull Riders thirtieth anniversary, the Dirty Therapy. I was just down there doing that, so I love it. I love doing all that kind of stuff. I'm looking forward to it.
