This is Later with Lee Matthews, the Lee Matthews Podcast More What You Here weekday Afternoons on the Drive. Captain Robert Skills majoris is joining us now as we get ready for two exciting events that are coming up. The first is Naval Week in Oklahoma and the second is the exciting and well anticipated Tinker Air

Force Base Air Show. Captain Robert Skills Morris originally graduated the Naval Academy in nineteen ninety nine, after which he went to Naval Pilot training and earned his wings at Vance Air Force Base just down the road and Enid and we are glad to have you along here, Commodore. Hey, I'm thrilled to be with you guys, and listen, Oklahoma is in for a tree. We've

got maybe week coming up. It starts June twenty sixth through July two with a bunch of great events and it culminates with an air show that's being held at Tinker Air Force Base, which is a super event over the first and second of July. And during that event, we're fortunate, we're honored to have the Blue Angels come in as a demonstration team. So it's going to be a lot to look forward to and it starts on the twenty six next one day. Did you have any stick time in the same aircraft that are

used as the Blue Angels. No, that wouldn't be my pathway. The route I took got me to Tinker Air Force Base, where I fly a communication airplane that talks the nuclear submarines. Well, that's significant as well, But I just was wondering with your experience and en it if it ever went in that direction. But let's talk about Naval Weekend exactly what that is,

because it's different for different states across the across the nation. Right. So the Navy week here is a series of events and they're designed to share with Americans how the Navy is deployed worldwide and around o'clock. That's why a strong Navy is vital to protecting the American way of life. So what we're doing, our sailors are going out into the community for Navy Week and they're excited about the opportunity to connect with the community and show our appreciation for the support

while showcasing the professionalism and dedication of the Navy team to the public. So the air show it's coming up, it's family friendly, It offers something for everyone from thrilling aerial displays, the static aircraft displays, and interactive exhibits, and it also allows everyone to have a better understanding of the Navy and the vital role that it played in protecting our country. Commodore Robert Skills majoris is with us talking about the upcoming air show a Tinker Air Force Base. I

don't know anybody who doesn't love a good air show. Yeah, I personally I love the air show too. I get excited every time that it comes around. And this is actually the first time in a couple of years that we've been able to get together and here at Tinker Air Force Base in a large gathering to see the air show. So I think everybody's really excited. And then on top of that, having the Navy Blue Angels come to be the demonstration team is probably the icing on the cake for anybody who's in the

Navy getting to see our demonstration team perform. Especially for me, it's always been motivating and inspirational. I'm looking forward to it. So Navy Week starts on the twenty second. The air show will be the first and second two performances on the Saturday and the Sunday, What time do things get started. It opens at eight am and it goes all day, so it's from eight

am to five pm both days. There are places to park, and there are shuttles that will get you back and forth to viewing areas, and they're going to have displays for stem for the kids to kind of check out science and technology, and they're going to be a lot of really aircraft that are on display. You can walk around. One of the aircraft from my community will be on display. You can walk around and see it. And yeah, show up early, Yeah, because you'll want you'll want enough time to

be able to walk around the static displays before the big show begins. Yeah. Absolutely, I mean, the show and parking are all free. We assume that we're going to get a lot of traffic here. It's going to be fun, but there is a lot to see and do, so I would recommend showing up one or both dates and just making a day of it. And that's coming up on the fourth of July weekend, which is also

very apropos or a national celebration like this. The first and second Tinker Air Force Base Air Show starts at eight o'clock and runs until five o'clock and Captain Robert Skilts majoris with us. How'd you get that nickname? Skilleds? I could, I could show over a cool beverage song. Okay. I thank you for joining us Commodore and we look forward to the show. Thank you very much, thanks for having me on and look forward to seeing you there.
