Good morning, it is Friday, May 24th, and we are rolling into Memorial Day weekend. Hello, summer, here we come. And here's what we have for you, the best barbecue banter that you can imagine. Whether you're staying at home and laying by the pool or sitting on an airplane or riding the car with someone, these are great things for you to drum up conversation. So let's dive right in because we have a lot to talk about this weekend.
First of all, last night we got this groundbreaking ruling in name image likeness. The NCAA Board of Governors and Every Power Five Conference, which are basically the conferences that you've heard of, the SEC, the Big Ten, et cetera, et cetera. They've agreed to destroy the amateurism model and share revenue with players by coming to terms on settling this lawsuit that threatened to bankrupt collegiate athletics.
Now, in the immediate future, the legal settlement is transformative for players because it will allow them to be compensated for prior restrictions on earning their name image likeness. And that's via that $2 .8 billion settlement. So that's for past athletes. But the agreement sets the stage for future revenue sharing models, which is a first for the NCAA benefiting thousands of collegiate athletes starting as soon as fall 2025.
Now the NCAA and its conferences will hammer out the details of this new revenue sharing and governance models over the next few months. So stay tuned for that. Another quick note before we dive into what's happening this weekend, TNT has lost the rights to air NBA games. That's the first since 1989. Now long time TNT commentator Charles Barkley, said about the network, morale sucks, plain and simple. I just feel bad for the people I work with.
These people have families and I really feel bad for them right now. And he blamed management saying, these people I work with, they screwed this thing up, clearly. And we have zero idea what's gonna happen. I don't feel good, I'm not gonna lie. Stay tuned for more on that as well as we roll through the weekend. Maybe TNT will make some sort of deal. Now, going in chronological order because we have so much happening this weekend. First, we're gonna start on Saturday with the FA Cup.
The FA Cup is a soccer competition between all levels of English soccer teams to see who is the best. Manchester City and Manchester United will meet up in the FA Cup final for the second successive season on Saturday. This is the first time since 1885 that the FA Cup final will be contested by the same two clubs in consecutive years. Now, if City wins, they will clinch a domestic double this weekend after being crowned. Premier League champions for the historic fourth season in a row.
Now last year, Man City, well, they won the treble, the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League. So they're on track. They could do that again this year. Now we're moving over to Sunday. It's a very sporty Sunday and we're starting off with probably the most picturesque location for a race ever in Monaco. The Monaco Grand Prix, which is an F1 race, is on Sunday. Now, Backing up to Saturday's qualifying position is so important for this race because it's very challenging to pass.
In last year's Grand Prix, there were only 22 overtakes, which is not a lot. Now compared to 30 years ago, these cars are about three feet longer and 600 pounds heavier, which makes it very difficult to maneuver around the narrow streets of Monaco. If you've ever seen pictures of Monaco, very narrow streets. I think there's a Mario Kart place where you can go race on what looks like Monaco. All the cliffs, all the yachts, all the people. It's quite the scene. It's stunning, but a great race.
Moving on to the Indy 500, which is after Monaco. Well, rain's in the forecast for the 108th running of the Indy 500 on Sunday. And the presidents of the track says, we're monitoring it. We'll see what happens, but we won't know till closer to the green flag on Sunday. And if you live in central Indiana, you're privy to the media blackout for the race. It's to encourage locals to attend the race in person.
Race fans are still able to listen to the race live on the radio, but the media blackout has been a tradition since the beginning and has only been lifted a handful of times over the years. Now, if you want more on the Indy 500, including the fantastic female racers that we're gonna look for, milk chugging and the BYOB traditions around the Indy 500, check out our podcast from this past Wednesday. Moving on to the Coca -Cola 600, the NASCAR race, well, we have Kyle Larson.
who was racing not only in the Indy 500, but in the Coca -Cola 600, which is a really ridiculously long race. Jimmy Johnson is commentating on the Indy 500 and then racing in the Coca -Cola 600. Both of them will take planes, trains, and automobiles to get from one racetrack to the other quickly, get set up, hydrated, and on their way for the next race.
Now in that race, look for some bad blood between Ricky Stanhouse Jr. and Kyle Busch, who got into a big fight last week, which caused... their $75 ,000 fine, some of their teammates got, some of their team got into it. It was quite the mess. Now, Stine, Stenhouse Jr. sounds familiar to you. That's because he and Danica Patrick dated for about five years starting in 2012. So stay tuned for more on this battle on Sunday. And if these two will duke it out again.
Last but certainly not least, it's Sunday morning, our time. But the first round of French Open starts on Sunday. It's the second major of the year in tennis. and the only major on clay courts. Now we have number one ranked Novak Djokovic and number one ranked Igosuviatec, who will be the ones to keep an eye on during this tournament. Now Djokovic, who has spent 425 weeks, 425, yes, as the world's number one, is at risk of losing his number one world ranking.
For him to stay as world number one after the French Open, he will need to get to at least the final. If he loses before the final, then Italian tennis star Yannick Sinner will become the number one ranked player in the world, even if he does not play. And in case you're wondering, no American man has ever made a French Open, no American, in case you're wondering, no American man has made a French Open men's single quarterfinal since Andre Agassi in 2003.
That's what we have coming for you this weekend. There's a whole heck of a lot. Check us out at lastnightsgame .com. or of course follow us on social where we will fill you in on all the happenings on everything that's happening this weekend. Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend.
