Good morning. is Friday, September 27th and we're headed into the last weekend of the month of September. I don't know where this month went, but here we go rolling into October, which happens to be the busiest sports month of the year. But let's not get too far ahead ourselves. Let's dive in to the big story of the weekend, which is Hurricane Helene. Hurricane Helene, which is impacting games in every single sport. We could cover all of them, but we won't drag you through it.
Just know that if your team is playing in the wake of Hurricane Helene, the chances are there's a delay. Now let's backtrack to Thursday, where the Oakland A's played their final games in Oakland. The team is heading to Las Vegas where MLB team, where the MLB team's universally despised owner, John Fisher, is building a new stadium. In the wake of that last game in Oakland, One employee gave the ultimate middle finger to the team posting his 30 % discount code online for fans to use.
And it's an end of an era and that's a colossal statement because in the 70s, Oakland was home to three championship teams, the NBA's Warriors, the NFL's Raiders and the Oakland A's. With all three gone, the Warriors went to nearby San Francisco, the Raiders went to Las Vegas. Oakland will be without a professional sports team for the first time since 1960.
And in case you're wondering, the A's will play their next three seasons and a minor league field in Sacramento, while their new stadium in Vegas is being built. The Major League Baseball regular season wraps on Sunday, minus those hurricane delayed games. Moving on to the WNBA playoffs on Saturday, we're rolling into the semi -finals and the top four seeds dominated the first round with all series ending in a sweep.
The big matchup in the semi -finals is between last year's finals matchup with the Las Vegas Aces chasing a three -peat and the New York Liberty, will they have home advantage. So make sure to catch that game on Saturday. Also in the semifinals, the Minnesota Lynx are playing the Connecticut Sun who eliminated the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark. So it'll be interesting to see what happens to the ratings without Caitlin Clark in the playoffs.
Moving on to golf, it's time for the President's Cup and Team USA was dominant after day one with a 5 -0 lead in the President's Cup. President's Cup is a biennial global team competition between the United States and an international team that represents the rest of the world, excluding Europe.
It's a unique golf event because there's no purse or prize money and players are not paid for their participation, but each competitor allocates an equal portion of the funds generated to the charities of their choice. So the US on paper looks really good with top rated Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler and Colin Morikawa leading the charge. Let's talk quickly about college football. A huge game in Tuscaloosa, Alabama this weekend.
Saturday night, number two Georgia takes on number four Alabama. And for the first time, Nick Saban, the longtime head coach of Alabama, will be on college game day set instead of the sidelines for Alabama with game day in town. And last but certainly not least, Sunday night, we have a matchup in the NFL between two great dynamic quarterbacks. Two time MVP Lamar Jackson and his Ravens were playing leading MVP candidate Josh Allen.
It should be a phenomenal game and stay tuned for more on Monday morning where we'll have everything that happened this weekend so you're ready to talk about all the sports as we roll into the month of October.
