GameZilla Media.com Welcome to this week's episode of the last Action Podcast, I am LPJ and I'm joined by a man who tried to pay our friend Dave the Tush to have sex with the horse because he really wanted a centaur. Obviously that's not going to work for two reasons. One, Dave's highly allergic to horses and two, you can't get babies if you do it in the video. That was really a long walk to where you were going with the horse. But worth it. Well, that's debatable.
And obviously it screams what the movie is going to be. Yeah, it's true. So I could believely take it back by that interview. I got to compose myself here. Okay, so we are talking this episode about Mortal Kombat Annihilation, the sequel to the original Mortal Kombat, which we covered on the spot gas. And why are we covering this movie, which is notorious, Luterable? Because as everyone knows, we're limping toward the finish line of the podcast.
And I told LPJ I'm like, well, we need to do one more like terrible movie. It's like one more like awful movie. And this is what we decided to go with. I know a lot of people are going to be disappointed that it's not trackable evolution. I'm not. Well, yeah, that's the thing. So you never know, maybe maybe if the podcast ever has a revival, that'll be something of a agenda. So, but anyways, yes. So we're talking about Mortal Kombat Annihilation. This movie was released November 21st, 1997.
We were still in high school LPJ when this movie came out. Yeah. And I can say that I have seen it. I definitely did not see it in 1997. I think my first viewing of it was probably within the past like two or three years to be honest with you. Oh, wow. Yeah. Like I had never seen it until fairly recently. And then obviously I watched it again for the podcast. I think I had to rent it too, which is a real pain in the ass.
But yeah, I had to rent it, which is weird because I feel like it's been on max. I feel like with this movie, with this, sorry, with this podcast, I feel like movies are always available to watch or free until I need to watch them for the podcast. Yeah, especially this movie because you're right. When the reboot, when the Mortal Kombat reboot came out, it was on max. It was a, you know, straight to max movie. So it's owned by Warner Brothers, which owns a new line or whoever did this one.
Yeah, it was new line. Yeah, so this was on there. This was on that list of all the Mortal Kombat stuff because they had this on there. They had like the TV show Mortal Kombat conquest. They had all kinds of different models. Some of the Mortal Kombat animated stuff. They had all that stuff on max on HBO. And then yeah, I was like, all right, I'll just go watch that max because I knew it was there and then it wasn't there. I was a little, a little perturbed by that.
But I did just bootleg it like I normally do for two bucks. So I own it now for two dollars. I didn't know you're still bootlegging movies like that. Oh, yeah, it's great. It works out. Anyway, so it's seen it before. Yeah, yeah. So when that's what I was getting to, I never saw this in the theaters. So I rented it pretty soon after it came out on VHS. And that was the last time I had seen it until this viewing here. Other than, other than maybe a few little bits and pieces here and there.
But I definitely did not like the movie when I saw it the first time. And you'll see you'll see. Okay. Okay. Let's get into some of the numbers on this. It has a budget of $30 million. A domestic gross of $35 million and a worldwide of $51 million. So surprisingly, it does make money. But I will say this. It doesn't look like it's $30 million. It looks like $15 at best. Yeah, it is crazy to hear that it's $30 million.
Because I feel like not only is like the computer graphics like this CGI like so bad in this. But I feel like almost every like set is just like an empty space. Yeah. Oh, there's not like it's just like, oh, we're in the desert. We're in this empty space. Like there's not or we're in a cavern. Like there's not like really like any complicated like the most complicated set.
I think is when they're inside like, I don't know, whenever they wherever she finds jacks and he's in like that, like the lab place. Yeah, like the lab. And that's like one room. Right. This looks like a TV movie. Like the whole thing looks like a TV movie. You can tell the things that the things that are sets look like their sets. So like the blocks that the presumably Styrofoam rocks look like Styrofoam rocks. Like it's it's poorly made.
This movie is I don't know if $30 million and 20 of it went to Booker Sugar. I don't know. It could have. Or this is some kind of like Ponzi scheme where like shirts with the money mezzled and like they just spent like three million making the movie. Yeah, that's what it seemed like to me. I mean, they didn't even have the money to bring back Christopher Lambert. Well, they they did. There's a lot of people that said, no. Okay. So here's something interesting. The rotten tomatoes for this is 4%.
So it's lower than the 9% that Beverly Hills cop three has. But still higher than the 0% that deathboard does everything has garbage. And the popcorn meter for this movie is 24%. So it seems a little high seems a little high. Okay, so top grossing movies of 1997 are number one Titanic. Number two met in black and number three, the lost world Jurassic Park. This movie mortal combat annihilation comes in 61st in the domestic box office. Other movies we have covered from 1997 is a big year for us.
We've covered number five Air Force one number 11 face off. Number 15 con air number 26. Number 35. The fifth element number 34 spawn number 35 starship troopers. Number 40 speed to cruise control. Numbers. Oh, I'm sorry. No, I didn't. No, I didn't. Number 98. First strike was that Jackie Tandy. Police police story to was. And then number 113 double team. The Jungle Broad band am, uh, Dennis. The movie. I don't know. I mixed bag. Where Dennis Rodman makes a lot of basketball puns.
Um, but like he's not. He said it was a basketball. Yeah, so it really doesn't make any sense. No, that's so weird here. Cause like. I feel like there's a lot of movies on that list that we've covered. That are. Like bad, but good. You know what I mean? like Conair and face off and uh uh uh uh double team was bad but it was also mildly entertaining in parts um yeah I don't know if this movie is going to fit into the category of that though.
Inter it's like well it's one of those two things it's just one of those two things you'll find in it. Okay so this movie uh the only person I could tell you that stars in it um yeah so James Reemar obviously he comes in to play Raiden um and the only other person that was familiar to me and I couldn't tell you why was that Brian Thompson yeah I got to play Shao Con like he just looked familiar to me. He is in a lot of things like he's a character actor whose sort of just
shows up in. When I looked him up the only thing I recognized I think he was the main like bad guy in Cobra. Yeah he's a main bad guy in Cobra. He's in he's in Star Trek a lot like he plays a bunch of different characters in the Star Trek series. But he shows up as like he just shows up in various movies as a not like a background performer he's usually like a featured character actor you know what I mean. Okay. He usually is like the the the the sidekick to the main henchman or
you know something along those lines. So he's he's been in a million things I'm sure you've seen him it just a matter of like he looked very familiar like I said and but like I didn't dig deep into his IMDB page I saw Cobra and I'm like okay we did Cobra on the podcast so yeah like he's in the he's in the expendables he's in what else would you have seen we didn't watch hard to kill so he didn't see that
he's a determiner he plays Rick in the Terminator who's Rick in the Terminator. One of the one of the thugs at the beginning. You could have said anything and I would have believed it. I'm kind of yeah and then like I show you know it's it's fine we ought to do it. We're gonna prank. Anybody else so that you want to bring out in the movie. Well I mean Tileesa Soto she's a bond girl so she was in license to kill she's Katana. Oh okay all right yeah yeah yeah.
Uh Robin Shoe her show um is a you know famous stunt actor so he's been in a bunch of different movies you may or may not have recognized him or seen him but he's been in a bunch of things Sonia Blade is played by Sandra Hess she's a relatively famous character actor she's in she's the cave girl and in senoman. But okay but she's also she's also um do you remember the Nick Fury movie
the TV movie? Do I uh I uh just a quick sito I was talking I was telling it just literally a couple days ago it worked uh we were talking about uh that that Nick Fury movie um do you remember and I'm sure you remember I have that uh Marvel comics like Puzzle that I've had since it's like a
it's from 1983 and it's like a puzzle and it's like just like a portrait of all like the Marvel characters yes yes um and like I've done that puzzle like a million times anyways we were recently doing like this like Advent cut calendar puzzle at work I know it's not time for
Advent calendar but putting it aside to wait but anyways I was like well I'm gonna bring in this Marvel Marvel puzzle because I still have it and so we did it and it's it's only three to pieces but and it's all like portraits of these people and someone is confused about Nick Fury being
in it because he's like oh Nick Fury is white and we're like well yeah you know he was the comic he was in the comics and then Dave's like and then I was like yeah or in the uh the David Hesselhawk movie and then I went in to talk about how during COVID like I got into a
weird thing where I was like trying to consume all like live action Marvel media yeah and I watched that uh David Hessel and Nick Fury movie I watched the pilot they made for like uh generation X yep the naked pickup I watched all the 70 Spider-Man episode I remember you had to do that um the
uh way too many of the Japanese at anyways I went down a really just COVID was a weird time I went down a really deep hole of watching stuff but anyways you were saying sure she's she's Viper she plays Andrea Vance Rucker okay sorry I went off in a tangent but that's fair but anyway yeah so she's yeah so she's been in a bunch of different things she's married to Michael Truco who's another Truco who's another character actor um she's been a bunch of TV shows like Sliders and um you know NCIS
general hospital stuff like that she's in psych also was a slider's doing a gerio conno yeah it was good okay I was I was confusing that in my secret identity but I guess he was in both of those huh I think it wasn't my secret identity yeah yeah um anyways uh okay uh so I only have one net
worth for you to do okay and it's James Riemar and he's got that sweet sweet the warriors money what do you think for James Riemar James Riemar has that sweet sweet black lightning money uh oh I'm gonna go five million two point five million okay just for James Riemar two more nobody said
sex in the city money and nobody said um dexter money so I haven't seen either of those shows and I don't feel like I'm missing out fair enough uh what do you want to say about director writers that sort of stuff sure director is a guy named john Arley and Eddie uh he has been a
cinematographer for a very long time uh and he did the cinematography for a bunch of stuff so like child's play three hot charts part two the mask the original mortal combat he did the scorpion king um butterfly effect uh he did a bunch of different things piranha 3d he's a cinematographer
he hasn't directed a ton of stuff but he works a lot with James one so he directed a annihilation but then he also directed anabelle and um other movies like wolves at the door so some horror stuff okay uh but he's been around for a long time as a most of the cinematographer
uh writers there's two writers I couldn't find much on Brent Friedman he was the the first credited writer second one's a guy named Bryce is able um Bryce able did a lot of tv shows so he's been around for a long time also did a lot of lowson Clark uh new adventures a Superman yep
he did mantis that uh short lived syndicated action show wasn't very good um he's not a bunch of other things to uh oh Atlantis the Lost Empire um which is a animated film um yeah and various other episodes like LA Law and dark skies and things like that okay it's always
been around a while so so you know they're not new people doing this movie they just you know do the porch up so you know what do you do something nobody has some of them sometimes people have lofties right up um okay so are you do you think you can handle the tag lines for this movie oh I
I'm willing to bet I'll be okay okay the first one nothing will ever be the same that sucks the second one we'll get ready for this one the second one destroy all expectations wow it's easy just stole that from everything else the next one the world was created in six days
so two shall it be destroyed and on the seventh day mankind will rest dot dot dot in peace oh god these are terrible uh next one there's still two more by the way uh last time they were fighting for their lives this time they're fighting for ours not nothing no it's like honestly got it's like they
grabbed every generic tag like they possibly could and just throw it through it on this movie okay last one this time there is no tournament this time there are no rules this time there is only annihilation wow terrible that was actually the best one of the bunch because it
at least has something to do with the movie in it but the other ones are off yeah yeah yeah I agree I agree so we can clearly say that thirty million dollar budget didn't go to marketing what did that money go to what did all the money go to like that's what you know
no one in this movie is famous enough to make a lot of money no it doesn't look good the graphics are literally terrible I don't know thing about CGI and I feel confident that I might be able to make like a better looking CGI I'm sure if you gave me a little bit of time um like I just like
uh I just don't know like where all that money went it was pro honestly it was 97 it was probably E probably a lot of ecstasy floating around 97 well I remember how ecstasy is a big part of the movie go that we talked about before yeah that's gonna be something rated I need to watch that movie
I wonder if it's streaming on anything I'm gonna look into that I think it is you're also underrated there's nothing to do with anything the limey that's a great movie oh well I mean we're possibly gonna be recording a movie with Terence Tam coming out so are we oh we are which by the way it made me think of how I wanted to do the limey on the podcast and you were like there's no the note uh should do that we had sounded just like me yeah that was just you guys pretty good um
wait how do we get to talk to you about the limey I don't know I just brought it up because it was a good movie enough um okay anything specifically that you want to talk about or mention or bring up or whatever uh I mean the the moral combat franchise the games themselves kind of have a plot
it's pretty convoluted this one sort of takes takes the plot of moral combat three um and there's characters from ultimate moral combat three and there's some plot elements and moral combat four in there um so it's just kind of stuff like I don't know I don't know what to say
like the the the moral combat plot is very kind of a lute if you ever go to read it there's a lot to it um but yeah so this is kind of taken from the the most recent at the time this was produced the most recent of the moral combat games okay which was sorry which one is the most recent oh three
at the time this is three um okay gotcha uh okay well let's just get into it and then go from there uh okay so of course this movie immediately starts off with the uh moral combat song the famous song which is which is probably more famous than either of these movies um and then we get like
kind of a recap of the first movie I'm not going to talk about the first movie go back and listen to our episode about the first movie if you've never seen it um okay so it this movie does uh pick up right where the first movie ends with like them like celebrating winning moral combat yeah oh yeah
it's a real it's a real back to the future to karate kid to moment so that a bunch of dudes from outworld show up uh and and shalkan uh he's the emperor of outworld right yes uh and like he's got all his lieutenants with them and once like a red ninja that looks like scorpion and I don't
know if they ever give that red ninja name his name's rain uh the one now reigns not the red one reigns the different one I think you're wrong there all right let me find out let's see is it maybe it's sire is it urmac maybe or sirex maybe it's urmac I don't know keep going uh and then so so
there's the red ninja there's the female goro lady yeah uh there's like the minotaur dude uh with the devil horns and then there's the the banshee lady who's like um uh katana's mom yeah so that's the banshee sindale yeah the the the centaur guys motaro who by the way is played by
male a boob from american gladdators okay okay uh so female goro is Shiva and um um maybe it's urmac maybe urmac is the red ninja let me look I'll look it up keep going okay uh and uh the the uh uh banshee lady I'm just gonna call him what I want you can call him the real man's
I'm calling him what I want so banshee lady like she's like yeah it's urmac urmac is the red ninja okay so no one in this movie is really good at acting but like I felt like the banshee lady was particularly bad like she isn't comically terrible line where where like katana's like oh mother
you're alive and she's like yes but you too won't be so bad so uh raiden and and shawkan fight uh and and like raiden's kind of kicking his ass a little bit because he's got like his like lightning powers um but then like uh uh uh he gets a hold of johnny cage and he's kind of like hey like i'm
gonna kill these humans if you don't like give up your powers um but like then he kills johnny cage anyways which is like kind of like shocking yeah johnny cage was huge in the first movie yeah and this movie recast them and they're like that's kill him yeah i don't know if he has a wine like
he just gets his neck broke yeah um so uh uh uh uh uh uh is gonna take over the earth in five days and basically like merge outworld and earth together like that's the thing that's sort of the plot from the mortal comic games is whenever they invade a realm it's sort of gets absorbed by outworld
gotcha uh so they're like hey we gotta stop them we gotta go to we gotta go like we all have different missions they're like sonia you gotta go find your partner jacks uh luke hang you gotta go find knight wolf and like raiden's like i gotta go talk to the other gods
but don't worry i know the short uh we're gonna take these uh atlas fears bellos fears we're gonna we call them maleable we're like maleable we know you're in this movie can you get us some atlas fears it's like i can do that um yeah cuz it's like describe i mean other
i mean remember not all people might know what an atlas fears try to try explain explain how these vellis fears work to people okay well first of all in atlas fears from american gladiators it's a giant fenced-in ball that you run around in like a giant hamster ball and you you
basically bash people with uh the vellis fears are something similar they're a sphere kind of like they're like made a rock and bone or something and one person holds onto the center right the other person holds on to that person and then they basically just roll through these tubes uh to wherever
it is anything out but you have to kind of lean certain directions and know where you need to which which junctions you need to take it's a whole thing but in this movie i also said they kind of look like track balls they do um and this movie the idea is that there's these vellis fears these
atlas fears there's a network of tunnels under the earth apparently that travel unlike the currents of like steam coming up from the center of the earth and you can use them to get anywhere in the world and are really fast about a time geo thermals more powerful the people realize um and why
when you're in the atlas fears do they have to stand like facing each other like face to face like i understand for movie purposes and so they get like have dialogue while they're there but like just in general it feel like they could just stand side by side yeah or you know they feel
like their faces would smack each other as they spin or i mean realistically what you'd probably want to do is one person stands in their hands and the other person stands in their you know on their feet then you know at least have some action in the way well what's going to do it oh so um okay so they're doing that um con uh shawkan he uh i have it he looked weird without his helmet he doesn't put his full helmet on the rest of the movie which is a bummer because he has like it's
like a bone like yeah it's cool and he doesn't wear the full thing to rest of the movie uh and he talks to his dad um and we'll find out more about his dad him and his dad argue his dad looks like i don't know like he was like uh an extra like a dungeon check yeah he's an elder god but yeah he's
well yeah he looks like yeah his costume is essentially just a cloak so so then then okay i gotta get to go so then Luke and your katana they run into um smoke who's a robot yes who can turn into smoke yes so okay in the world of mortal combat these these robots these
they're former ninjas kind of like like sub zero was right uh and they have special different powers and so their clan also turned them into cyborgs so they're cyborgs that retained the whatever supernatural powers their ninja bodies had i told you man it's convoluted and weird but that's
what it is don't even get me started one of them uh uh newb sabat is one of them he's like a collection of defeated warrior souls is what powers him okay yep um so maybe that's where i have one of them maybe might be her mac but either way one of those two can i can i tell you some i don't care
uh that's fair i understand red ninja smoke ninja other guy yellow ninja um so i haven't known here where i just or i i wrote down that this movie is 85% flips look literally all this movie is people doing flips a lot of times seemingly for no reason they're just doing flips there's so
many flips yeah so um they're and they're and you should probably and they're barely in the camera frame too so they're like flipping like from the bottom corner to the top corner but only part of them actually makes the shot it's crazy um so so they're kind of not doing great against smoke but
then sub zero shows up and defeat smoke and if you're like wait a minute then sub zero die in the first movie this is apparently his brother yeah uh and he's like hey look at he's like look hang i know you kill me brother but we're cool because i want to stop shout calling to i don't know
um so then um so that scorpion shows up and i thought he was dead too so i was very confused and of course he's like good over here um so so sorry so they him and sub zero fight okay i got to go so the him and sub zero fight and then like lukega like jumps over to help him
and then like scorpion like he like he i can't remember exactly what happens but he ends up like on the other side of this cavern and he grabs katana and he like disappears to a portal but i'm pretty sure before he does he yells sucker yes he does
yeah this movie's bananas and the voice of uh of uh scorpion is the video games creator Ed Boon get over here he's also a guy what's the thing this is like to stay yes um okay so that happened now we cut to sonia um she's out of the hamster ball uh and goes to this lab where she finds jacks
and he's got the stupidest looking robot not only that like he's still strapped to this chair with these robot arms and there's nobody around him and he's not questioning it he's cool with it he's like this place is abandoned and is clearly been abandoned for hours and he's just laying there
he's cool well and it's also confusing to me because he has these robot arms right and they make you think like he went through this big huge operation to get the robot arms but then you learn later that they're literally just like it's just like he stuck his arms into them like he still has
his actual arm right so how long could it have taken it's like a rigged then he puts his arms in and part of it's on his shoulders and it's like so why was he like why was he in such an operation to get like these arms I don't know why would he have to be strapped down to do it
okay so that another robot ninja shows up and this one's name is Syrax yeah I just like I have this note written a lot that just says jacks is the worst because he's probably my least favorite character in this movie which is saying a lot so and his arms like really dumb so like
they fight and and some other like there's a lot of just like random ninjas that show up like they kind of like the foot clan but like only half of them have shirts on so so Syrax ends up getting defeated and then like I don't know why and even after watching
the whole movie I couldn't really explain it but like a tiny little dragon flies out of them I think it's the soul of whatever warrior possessed that robot body I think okay so then cut to who con or con hangs out in outworld and like all his lieutenants are
arguing which includes the devil horseman and the lady goru and they they mention to people who I think are more atomic characters cabal and striker yeah like they just they mentioned how they captured them or something and I'm like what do you have in the movie that
right and I don't I can't remember why but not because I watched a movie the long ago just because I don't care uh but uh shawkan is mad at rain it ends up like killing rain and like throws them and like throws them over the side of the thing into a pit yes yeah um okay so
fucking movie so then looking ends up meeting night wolf like I don't understand what the whole reason for them to go off on these tangents are it's to get more powerful is that what he said well it's weird to okay I have a couple questions about this because he's like yeah they're like you're
not and it's all kind of like at the end the whole thing is like mood uh but they're like well you're not powerful enough to fight shawkan because he's a god so you need to go train with night wolf and when we meet night wolf he's an actual wolf and he's like that's my animality which I feel
like it's just something from the game that they try to like squeeze into this yeah they show him a lot of stuff in the game and it's like I he teaches luke hang how to do his animality I guess but it's really unclear what he does right and and I feel like he says there's like some trials he
has to do but then like he doesn't really do the trials it's really unclear what exactly happens and I guess he learns how to do his animality but literally night wolf is gone like he doesn't come back in the whole movie at all if he's that powerful why not recruit him to be one of your allies
right like he's just gone like he has that one scene and I don't know like I get it like this is gonna sound racist and apologies but he reminded me of like tatanka or uh yeah what was uh what was the native american guy in street fighter two like uh yeah I know I know what you mean but I can't
think of his name uh t oh t hawk okay okay so uh he this is very confusing so he learns his animality and then he like I don't know comes out of his trance and he meets Jade and she's wearing like I don't know like a fur bikini in the snow and like tries to seduce Luke Cage Luke Cage but he's
like nah I'm not I'm not buying it so they fight um but then I then she's like well but I'm on your side I'll like take you to the temple of the older gods yeah and he just believes her he's like okay that's that sounds that sounds like it makes sense that's a rust worthy because I
write notes it just uh that I just enjoyed rereading it because I even know that just says it kinda hangs out the cage that's actually cool she's hanging it because he's just in the cage like the cage like the french class from uh oh it looks to kill yep um yeah exactly so yeah she's
hanging out in the cage show cons there um back to jacks being terrible I also like really I don't know why but I really hated the fact that like after they were leaving he took like that jacket and like ripped the sleeves off yep so it's just like a vest but he still had no shirt on
underneath so it was just like his robot arms and like a jacket without sleeves and no shirt on underneath it so that like him and Sonia are kind of arguing a little bit and they're traveling together but somehow like Sonia gets so far uh so far ahead of him take it with different direction
it's weird they go in different directions that but end up at the same place at the same time is she runs into this lady ninja and they like have basically like a mud fight yeah it's right in the mud and it takes jacks like so long to catch out to where Sonia is
that like at that point she's already won the fight and then like this pile of rocks turns into the worst looking like CGI character that you've ever seen and I don't know like jacks defeats it by punching it into the ground question mark just kind of slams its head on the ground and
and but it goes like into the ground yeah oh yeah no no it yeah yeah it's like a dog it's like he donkey just it and it goes like this movie's terrible guys um so then so we got we got back to raiden uh and he talks to the elder gods and they're not helpful at all no they're like
you're good you figured out you're fine and then keep um so then they keep I felt like they kept talking about how like shalkan was sending out like he's got extermination squads out and like then they show it it looks like it's like friggin like sirens army like
like lower the rooms like this gigantic army on or smack and it's like too I don't know that's a squad like a squad to me it's like I don't know like 10 people thanks people you have to be 10 yeah um so then raiden's then chapped off his hair and as a new
outfit for no apparent reason I don't know because he's mortal now like they talk the elder gods talk about how he has to give up his immortality but like we don't see him give up his immortality and it's just like it but then like it's confusing because then he's they they tell him that
but then he still has his powers to use them to get to outworld yeah that's what you have figure out is and he doesn't he doesn't have his powers in our world but he says right off the bat that he won't have his powers in our world right so what's the point of giving him his immortality
yeah I don't know yeah I don't understand it either um oh also he doesn't like jax's arms or anything which that's one thing being raiden agria sure um so then they go to outworld they get in a fight with uh uh uh sundale and i've like who's slain anything she is fancy because I think
she's got yelling powers yeah but not as cool as the yelling sound from the x-band the animated series no which is ridiculous what like honestly just a quick tangent here like if you're listening to podcast and you've never like look up a clip of the original X-Men animated series and just like fight a clueless band. Because okay, bands these powers are sound based and it's like yes he like has a high supersonic scream that he uses. It allows him to fly in that stuff but like the
representation of it in the cartoon series. It's just it's so comical because it's just like I mean I guess it's like yeah that's how it would like translate I guess like it's someone who's like they're like they're like vocal smoke rings that come out of his mouth that and then
his screaming is ridiculous. Oh and I got a little confused because she screams before they go to Outworld because she's trying she's like destroys the temple right where they're where it's like they kind of like the got tempo of the Elder Gods is kind of like where they go to find
the Holy Grail in a let's just say yeah it's in Jordan. Okay so they get they go to Outworld radiance like oh I gotta use the last of my power to get this to Outworld whatever do so then Katana's still in the cage like we cut back a verse she's still chilling in the cage
so then they they're in Outworld and they and like radiance is really long prolonged fight scene against these ninjas and I'm like are these someone are they just like generic ninjas because they seem like they're generic but they're kind of dressed in like the scorpion sub zero like outfit. Yeah I don't know who they were I think maybe they were just generic like people of that tribe of ninjas so I don't really know. Well what good are you?
I'm you know my apologies I don't I don't know the moral combat lore as well as I should I apologize I didn't do my did do my research fair enough okay so he has a fight with these generic ninjas this is at this point when I wrote a note that says nah this movie's 90% flips because
they do a lot of flips in that point they capture uh sendel but we don't actually see it because after raided's fight like they just have her and they're like how'd you capture and jade's like I got her yeah literally okay it's fine so luke goes off um to rescue katana um and he fights
this dude with swords and his arms and I am I suppose to know who the yeah that's Baraka he's a pizza relatively famous moral combat character because my note says who is this dude with swords and his arms and the Halloween USA mask oh yeah how many are there
because it looks like he fights like four of them and they all like the same yeah the he's a member there's a there a race of people in the outworld called uh targetins target yeah targetins and yeah that's they all look like that essentially and they all have like swords and their arms
swords and their arms big big giant teeth yeah the whole thing great uh so he rescues katana and they defeat uh lady goro um you think she's like a badass but she gets she gets defeated because they drop the cage out there they drop the cage out and she's dead um okay so uh uh uh uh uh so they
they go to where they're because like the whole thing is like oh sorry move back up a little bit so during that whole fight uh the stunt double for luke hang do you know who it was oh i did see this yeah it's Tony jah yeah yeah yeah which is crazy yeah yeah um so like one of the main
points of the movie i guess Jesus is that they're like they're like well how is con keeping these portal the portal to earth open it must be because of the hold he has over Sindel like katana's mother so they think that like her love is gonna break the the spell
right the hold um uh so they try and do that but it was a setup uh and and and and it was a setup and jay turns out to be a bad guy and uh i don't know what's how do you not see that coming yeah really it's in del like even though it's never been set up it's probably the game she like hits
raiden with her hair and i'm like oh fuck it's going on yeah it's a game thing uh so then we find out that raiden's dad uh is an elder god and he's and he's the one and he's been helping out con because he's because con is raiden's brother yes and when they shanak is the elder god that's their dead
and like basically his their dad raiden's dad wanted them to fight to the death and like the the winner would like um become like the one true son i don't fucking out but like raiden won the fight but he refused to kill con so like he's kind of like now.
Then jay gets killed but i don't remember how i think con kills her if they're those are into that pit yeah another pit death yeah um so then uh they all the side they're like all right well we gotta try and stop this they go to uh their final face off with con uh con kills
raiden um uh and then so then we have a showdown jacks he fights the horse dude yep mochitana katana fights her mom yep uh sonia fights the red ninja that we get no information about uh and then lufe fights con yes uh at a certain point during the fight jacks loses his
dumb robot arms that's when we learned that they're not robot arms we're just you just like wearing just like metal sleeves it's just like metal sleeves uh so uh he defeats the horse dude he helps sonia defeat the red ninja who at one point like splits in two or something um and then
so then oh jesus so then con is beating lu pretty handily yeah so so lu uses his animality which turns them into like i don't know like a weird dragon looking yeah godzilla dragon thing yep and so then con uses his animality which turns them into like a three headed like serpent
thing yeah and the the graphics they look so bad it looked like they're like n64 graphics yeah they're not great they're it's really poor it's not well done at all so then so they fight for a while as these creatures but then the elder god show up and they're like well first okay
sorry first they go back to their human forms and they're like ha ha con you're mortal now and he's like what the hell in this dance like i told you there would be a price to pay for like oh not obeying the rules but he's gonna step in and try and help con but then the other elder god
show up and they're like nah sit this one out like they're gonna settle this in mortal combat yep so lu gang thinking that time to learn the animality didn't matter at all didn't matter didn't matter at all so um uh so then he ends up fighting con killing con and then
what what i couldn't think of a way to write this in the note how would you what would you say that it happens to his dad like i feel like he gets like said to the fans yeah the the the nether realm so he's banished to the nether realm but he gets like trapped in a box in the box
like the box like folds like a bunch of ways and it can't yeah it's it's kind of like yeah the fandom zone so they're defeated uh everything goes back to normal uh raid in comes back to life and gets to become an elder god yeah to take his dance place and like which is weird because he
becomes an elder god but doesn't it become the water god or the fire god instead of the lightning god no because the water and the fire god are the two that are around i think his dad with the lightning one but we don't ever see him in like elder god form he just looks like himself but he's a
little shimmery oh that's true um uh and like uh katana's mom is cool raiden becomes an elder god and like everything's back to normal and that's the end of the movie that's it yeah that's it no teaser for a third yeah no teaser although i did seem like they were really trying to make a third
one yeah they were they were really trying to make a third one um and uh it was actually they had sets built uh um um what's his name uh raiden for the first film uh uh uh uh what can i be saying Christopher Lambert Christopher Lambert was actually going to come back to be raiden again
um but then hurricane Katrina yet screwed up one of their locations and uh destroyed some of the sets that they had and then there was a lawsuit and a whole thing just fell through and then the new line got bought by time Warner and or maybe new line was part of time Warner but
there's some kind of other lawsuit something happened and the whole movie got shelved until it was rebooted for the 2001 world comment which we covered on this podcast we did cover the i'm only said that the podcast is going to be gone and we won't get to cover when the sequel comes out that has
Carl urban yeah i'm excited to see that i the first i like that first one a lot you know what when maybe when that movie comes out we'll do like a special lot to say maybe we'll see i don't know if that's the one to get us to pull us out of retirement but we'll see
yeah problem problem problem now oh good news good news i know you're going to fan this uh there was a novelization of this film i know how much you love novelizations i just love the idea that like and i don't know if it still happens but there was a period of time when every movie had
a novelization yes like i i remember when i've talked about this before we talked about it but i had like and maybe my brother did but i just i have it now i remember reading like a bunch of times the novelization of the 1989 Batman yep uh and i had a novelization of the rocket tier
i do remember reading a lot i probably still have that i should see if i can find it but just like that just boggles to me that like i think i remember when we were reading i think we were something about like talking about the novelization of right to eat it was like tough yeah what was
really wild is they would make novelizations about movies that were based on books and the novelization would be about the movie would be the movie story not the book story because like i get that like novel some things have novelization but it's wild like i remember reading the novelization for the
phantom menace uh before seeing the phantom menace oh yeah okay yeah because it came out before then um i think it's this is a tangent but i mean this episode's probably never had run again that long so i'll just say it real quickly it's hard to express the hype that was around the
phantom menace and the excitement of it coming out it really is like it's it's it's like at that time was so exciting i can't even think of anything and because it had been building because they had just over the like the five years prior to it coming out they had done the the reduce of the of the
original trilogy re-released him in theaters had all new lines of toys come out there was a huge huge tie-in with like Taco Bell for the for the re-release movies it was gigantic and then like in the midst of it they announced oh yeah we're gonna do a new trilogy and so it just kept building
and building and yeah it was a whole thing yeah and and i i remember not accepting that that movie sucked for a long time yeah and then uh then you came to it it's not great it's not great actually my eight-year-old went back and watched it because he wanted to watch that he just i don't
know where i'd unprompted watch the first one and liked it and he was in the middle of watching the second one and has he he'll watch a movie stop it halfway through go about his life and then months later come back and pick up the movie and not and not even miss a beat sounds like beat sounds
like me watching a movie for this box yes so i'm sure he's gonna he's gonna watch a tag of the clones the rest of it at some point but i don't know when anyway moving on yes back to this uh do you have any role reversals or anything like that i don't have role reversals um but i will say there
are a lot of people that didn't come back for this movie that were the first one because they read the script and we're like no uh or they had opted to do something else instead so like um but the guy who played scorpion christ kess amasa was doing batman and robin instead um
uh uh uh there were other actors too i had a list i lost it though it doesn't matter the point is people didn't come back great um what what what what are we just waiting for that okay uh i know first if you want how about all right um it's weird to say this i like this
movie better now than i did the first time i i saw it but it's still not a good movie like i i i don't know i think i was much more disappointed with the movie the first time i saw it after watching the first movie than i was going into it this time around remembering it was bad but not
being as disappointed because i already had already had the expectation that it's bad so i think i enjoyed watching this a little bit more than the first time i saw it but like i said it's still horrible i don't know where that thirty million dollars went um it looks like a tv movie the acting's
terrible the writing's terrible um some of the fight scenes are okay uh but really it's not there's really not i don't feel like there's a lot of really good fighting in it it's a lot of flips yes 90 percent flips right there's really not a lot of actual fighting in it it's very strange um
um i was i was never bored by this movie i'll say that but at the same time it wasn't terribly entertained by it um i'm gonna go i'm gonna go one and a half machine guns with it okay um yeah i mean this movie is objectively terrible like it's not a good movie like it's not at all
like there's nothing at the graphics are bad the acting's bad the stories nonsense there's not any good fight scenes like there's nothing good about it but i don't like i don't know it's kind of a fun watch because it is so bad like to me it is like so bad that it's a fun watch like because
it just is like bonkers and it's it's literally like how where do that money go uh i'm not saying that i would sit down and watch it all the time but there's some bad movies we watch in this podcast and i would like there is nothing you could say they would get me to watch them again you know like
the the the crosswar's movie or like um the point break well welcome the sun dash point break revenge but there's something about this one while it's terrible it's still kind of fun uh and i like unintentionally fun um but but yeah i can't go super highly that so i think i'll be right in
line with you and give it like one and a half machine guns but i i think this would be a fun movie to like sit down with a group of people watch and just like make jokes about it it's weird it's a weird it's a one and a half machine gun movie but i would tell people to watch it yes i would tell people watch it and just like in like just yeah because it's dumb and it's a fun watch but it's a terrible movie yeah it's and it's and it it is like literally insane that it costs 30 million dollars
to make yeah i don't understand that i don't understand that one bit like i can't i cannot figure out i cannot rent my brain around that um what we'll say this this movie led to the tv series mortal combat conquest which looks better than this movie does never seen it is it a continuation of
the story no no it uh it takes place way in the past oh okay right but it's it was a like a syndicated show i think it lasted a year um but was it was it better than um me and my joke would be better if i could think of what the name of this oh wmc masters yeah it's right in line
with wmc masters i he just like i i don't have a lot of knowledge about wmc masters and i don't want to like i don't i don't want to like open that can of worms here but like i just sort of remember i feel like it was out like like when i was early in college so let's say like 98 99
2000 and i just remember like randomly catching like episodes of it yeah and it was like i was like a scripted show but also like there were fights but they weren't real fights right yeah it was it was it was scripted sports entertainment so it was like wwe sort of yeah but um but more
more dramatic like more tv show and actually a lot of the people in that show are the stunt performers in mortal combat and mortal combat annihilation christ kass amasa is from that show and did a lot of stuff the guy that played um uh uh uh how came the machine allston is in a bunch
of these movies as stunt performers so that's that's that's where a lot of the stunt performers from these from these martial arts movies went to as they went to wmc masters and and had actual acting jobs oh well how about that um should we get in the plugs sure uh i'll go first uh i
obviously would like to start by plug in the 1986 cartoon series silver hawks um because as i'm sure you're also appearing by now they are partly metal partly metal partly real and they have wings of silver nerves of steel um and they also have a hawk that hangs out with
them an actual hawk whose name is tally hawk and the guy i should look up his name at some point but you know what we got like five episodes left who cares um the guy that flies their ship is like a cowboy is there's bluegrass oh okay um the other thing i would like to plug is um the day that we're
recording this uh the movie uh twisters is available on peacock uh and i would say it's a surprisingly entertaining movie detourish and i saw it in the theaters and had a lot of fun with it i mean it's not like you know it's like a fun popcorn you know movie like it's not gonna change your life
and it might not have as much fun watching it at home but i would say that if you didn't see it and you're you were kind of maybe interested i would say check it out because i think it's a lot of fun um so yeah that's what i'm plugging is twisters i plan to watch that i have a pretty good setup
here in my basement with uh my home my home theater setup so i think i'll have to do that i was curious because i saw another thing that came on today i saw it i didn't know if you ever saw was that transorber's one movie we were gonna think the kids to see it never and stuff happened
and we never got around to doing it um but i'm thinking i'm gonna sit down with probably my eight year old and watch it maybe my my 14 year old see if he wants to watch it he's usually you'll sit and watch movie or once in a while but uh yeah because i saw that it came out of paramount
plus today i was just like yeah maybe i'll check it out at some point yeah i hear it's pretty good here's okay okay anyway sorry what do you want to plug uh sure i'm gonna plug um uh uh cartoon that you know i feel sad that it ended when it did uh it's the Pirates of Darkwater uh your
brother and i both have a fondness for the Pirates of Darkwater we were disappointed that they never got to find all of the all the gems um i think they got i think they had uh seven of the 13 or eight of the 13 something uh so i was disappointed that never that never came to fruition i'm still
hoping for a reboot there's there's plans there there's been plans in the works for reboot it hasn't come to fruition yet but Pirates of Darkwater check it out it's good show um i also want to plug the frost robo falcons uh ftc robotics team so it's the first robotics league i am a mentor
there i actually run their podcast and handle all the presentations and things uh we are as of right now we have scored the third highest score in the world for this particular competition we are probably one of the top five robots in the world right now uh wow yeah we're in that's out of
the literally the world like this competition happens all across the globe so we are a very formidable team um we've done very very well we've already qualified for a state competition um out of our first our first tournament we we already already scored it already scored enough to
get to get to states um it's we're very excited so it's uh so shout out to those guys if anybody from ftc frost robo falcons is listening good work uh and you can visit them at uh the just look up google search frost robo falcons 10136 that's the team number or go to um first inspires.org that's
where you can learn about the game that we're playing and the whole in the whole competition uh or uh levonia ftc you can look that up and then that has a link to all the robotics teams from from where we're at uh so i'm very proud of those kids i did a very very good job uh and then the
last thing i want to plug unfortunately is discord um i saw that freaky s worm costume picture um i was not a fan it was terrifying i couldn't even comment on it i was disturbed uh i'm glad it didn't have feet because that would have made it worse um and i hit you all i can't believe i can't believe
you would put that on there don't go to discord i changed my mind i'm closing discord down i have the power to do it no more discord damn okay that's it that's all i got all right cool um um and it oh now well yeah you gotta oh we're gonna do the thing yeah yeah i mean the luster something else you want to talk about this episode of the last action podcast has been terminated shhh but we'll be back um
