ROTC presents Black Glove Mysteries with Ian Urza and Greg Amortis. Welcome to LOTC Presents Black Glove Mysteries, where every other Friday we will take you on a journey through Italian cinema. Specifically Giallo, but we reserve the right to take other avenues such as Polizia Teschi. uh spaghetti westerns euro crime films either way you will hear and now see us talk italian cinema this is episode 432 double double 64 if you're keeping count i am your host greg amortis along with

Ian Erza. What's up, Ian? Well, I don't know anyone who can hide you guys. What about Clara and those two whores? They'll look after us and we can bang them too. You will, huh? And what if you can't get it up some night? They say out, huh? I know a safe place. I love it. That exchange is literally exactly those three characters in the movie, exactly what they're all about. Yeah, I mean, right in a nutshell. We're super excited if you're new to the show.

Welcome, we are going to be talking Italian cinema, as mentioned at the beginning, and Ian giving an amazing quote from one of the movies we're talking about tonight, which is going to be 1970, is it? Three or two. I think it's 1973. It has both, but I'm actually thinking it's 73, but it's The Boss as well as 1975. Is it 75? Rulers of the city. Yeah, 1975. 76, rulers of the city. That's right. Yeah. And these are from Fernando Dalio.

And we're super excited. We're finishing this kind of set, which was, we'll show you once again, this amazing set that Ian had gifted me back Christmas time, I believe it was. It's a great set.

this is from kino or from raro i should say and then ian has the separate disc which i absolutely love so what we're looking at is the last two of this set uh one of them being the boss which is the uh final of the what they call quote unquote trilogy of the uh lately trilogy uh which was the first two caliber nine as well as the italian connection and then the balls kind of go together and i think henry silva is the glue

that definitely puts those together and then we'll be talking about rulers of the city and as you just saw Ian's got his rolling rock rolling over there I love it every week it's kind of a different beer last time I think it was Coors Banquet then it was cold 45 before that so

I just go through it, go through a different gauntlet of different kinds of beers that I feel like drinking, I guess. Right. I love it. So we're super excited. Once again, we'll be talking some Italian cinema. And at the end of this.

black glove mysteries if you're listening on audio form on your podcast platforms we'll get into mortise vision with the mortises and we have special guest chris bartoli on and we're going to be talking some into the dart from hulu uh hulu uh four movies over there so super excited so with that said let's get into this episode uh super excited man once again we're looking at the boss from 1970 i'm gonna call it 73 as well as once again 1976 rulers of the city and as like we all

always like to do i'm gonna head it over to ian uh ian take it away for the plot synopsis and we'll start breaking this down all right so i'm just going to take this from the raro video blu-ray Based largely on real people and actual events, Fernando DeLeo's action-packed film, the final part of his Milieu trilogy,

is his boldest commentary on corruption in the criminal underworld a bomb attack in a cinema in palermo kills all the members of one mafia family except for cokey realizing that the instigator of the bomb attack is daniello from another mafia family

Cokie is determined to seek vengeance. Lanzetta, played by Henry Silva, a hired killer employed by Daniello, is told to assassinate the rival family. Following Lanzetta's successful hit, he finds himself in the midst of the ensuing gangland war, with Daniello attempting... to turn him into the police his boss's daughter kidnapping the rival gang looking for revenge boom boom boom what a fun movie man let me say right off the bat we keep it semi

spoiler free there will be some spoilers and we do have calls typically at the end of the episode or sometimes so we can't control what comes in on calls as well so sometimes there may be spoilers on that but i've got to say man this one has some really great uh shot sequences i'm talking squibs and just shooting sequences in a lot of fun a lot of just back and forth uh

twists and turns where you think one thing's going one way and then it goes another way and then it's just like a lot of double triple crossing and i absolutely had a blast with this movie man So did I. I mean, this is one that's gotten better for me every time I watch it, because truth be told, the first time I watched it, I found it a little bit confusing. There are a lot of moving pieces in this. And it definitely, I think, takes more than one view to get it all straight.

This is what I had to say on my blog about it. And I do think it's one of my better sort of openings for a review that I've done on my blog, which I haven't written on in quite a while. I should probably get back to that eventually. But anyway. The opening thesis statement of my blog went like this. A movie that shows just how futile and phony the so-called honor is between mafiosos. Time and time again throughout this film, one mafia boss or hitman will do just about anything.

for financial or self-preservation purposes, which is really what being a criminal is all about. There is no honor in it. It's all about who gets rich or who gets dead or who removes who from someone's way. Well, there are some violent shootouts in this film. It's the best part about...

This is trying to point out who the next person is to betray someone. This movie is a spider web of who is against who and whom is trying to kill whom at certain points. Henry Silva is awesome as the one mafia enforcer who is always one step ahead. This also features a great piano.

heavy electric guitar and drum score from Louise Bakalov that gives the movie a signature soundscape. I would encourage more than one watch of this film are taking notes as it is hard to keep track of who is who and their motivations all in one watch. Couldn't have said it no better, brother. I'm telling you right now, you nailed that on the head. I've only seen it one time, and I loved it. So I know with the socket viewing, this thing's going to really ramp up.

uh like you mentioned there is like those spider webs because there is so much going on

following different characters, right? So Henry Silva, I think, does tremendous in this movie. I think he is so good in this movie. Well, I like that he's just very cold in this as this sort of mafia hitman because... like you know right away like you know however many minutes into the movie i mean we see him at first at the movie theater where he's got this grenade launcher on this rifle just launching grenades into this theater and then he uses a silenced pistol i think it's a

silenced p38 to kill a couple more i think he's using a silenced luger at different points of the film too he's using the two i think he's using both guns the german the german army used in world war ii for their side arms but anyway you see him kill the people in the theater Then when the mafioso's daughter is kidnapped, Giuseppe Daniello, I think it is, his daughter is kidnapped. And then the Richard Conti character basically tells him, well, we kind of have to kill him now.

And he said, you know, I was raised by him 15 years, but that doesn't mean anything. Like he kills this guy with no remorse, no hesitation whatsoever. Don Carrasco is the Richard Conte character. And basically like it's, it's, it's from there. It's like, okay.

is going to betray who next like that just sets the tone of exactly how this movie is going to go because then Cokie is betrayed by his right hand man then Lanzetta they basically do what you may call it the god almost like the godfather scene where they kill all the families yes the christening scene from the godfather uh where they just kill everybody from from koki's family then uh then

Basically, it was, yeah, Cokie's right-hand man. Then you have the, I can't remember, Pignataro, the character Marino Masi plays, helps out Lanzetta against... corrupt uh corrupt police commissioner tory so there's all of that going on and basically it's like okay who is like it's it seems like him and tory are going to make a deal and then it's like no he just kills tory anyway so it's like all the time it's like basically

All these handshake deals that just get broken within five seconds. It just happens so quickly, all of it. Yeah, I feel like in these type movies, which are dealing in what we've seen in this trilogy. far with caliber 9 italian connection is us focusing on the mob and the mafia and i feel like that was something that was probably prevalent like you you always had somebody making a deal right so you

Other than the Don himself, you never knew who was going to come out and maybe take a better deal. And on top of that is I kept telling Pearl through the whole movie, I was like, dude, how would you sleep, right? Like, you would not be able to trust anyone in this profession. And even, like, somebody like Henry Silva's character, Linzetta, you know, it's like... You try to close your eyes at night, but you never know who is even beside you.

is your friend or no friend because you have no friends in this movie none and uh i just thought it was interesting to watch that i think that's why i like these type movies i love the godfather godfather part two

You know, I love movies that deal with that whole scenario. But in this one, I thought the... the twist that would take place like the backstabbings and the different things was done so well but I think it started with what you mentioned at the very beginning of this movie it set the pace and that's where all these members these

mobsters got together in a cinema to watch a skin flick, of all things, and then that's where the hit takes place. And this grenade launching gun that he's using is freaking phenomenal. I mean, it's just... And lots of dummies and different things, clearly, I mean, with the fire sequences. But it still worked for me, Ian. Seeing these guys just burning and exploding. And then the body getting shot outside of the cinema.

You know, he did not change and go to a pistol. He shoots him with the grenade. I'm like, boy, that was an overkill. I mean, he hits that dude to splatter, man. I'm like, wow. Those sequences set the pace for me. I already knew right there.

We're on for a fun ride. And it kept getting better for me. It just really kept getting better to the point that I think we text back and forth about that shootout. You were asking me about the shootout toward the end of the movie. I thought it was phenomenal, dude. Just great. Well, that was actually for real. in the city, I think. But there is, you know, the christening scene is awesome. You get...

The guy's getting machine gun off the balcony of this construction building. You get one of them getting stabbed around the corner, just gets ambushed around the corner. You get one of them falling into a pool. You get the guy with some prostitute or something, gets shot a bunch of times.

that actually echoes Mo Green's death in The Godfather really well. But that was one scene. Then you have both shootouts at the end, the one where Tori gets killed, where the camera's just going crazy. I mean, the camera's moving like crazy in that scene. Then you have the scene... where Pink Notaro infiltrates Don Carrasco's place, kills him, and then kills a bunch of the other people, and he gets some assistance from Lanzetta there at the end, which I thought was pretty cool.

And then you have, what's the lawyer, Rizzo? Rizzo's in the background, and he's setting all this stuff up, orchestrating all of it, so he can come out on top by the end. So I thought that that was interesting, too. He's like the most conniving of all the characters, but his character... is so under radar. Yeah. Which I thought was interesting. That's Corrado Goppy. Yeah, his character, man, he's a sleazeball, man. I mean, he's doing what he's got to do, though.

but i loved it and then in between all of this in between all the twists and turns and and people you know stabbing each other in the back we get the character arena danello who is the dons daughter who they kidnapped because of what Lenzetta did at the beginning. She's played by Antonia Santielli. who only acted in a few roles and then yeah she was like a model turned actress yep we got her who it turns out to be a nip vote

So we got this scenario going on, you know. So, wow. I mean, just a lot going on in this movie. The kidnapping I thought was going to go a different direction because they basically kidnapped the daughter and just that whole. scenario where you had

And Danello's dad, you know, being like a dad would be so distraught and sending. And then Zeta said, please go get my daughter, bring her home. And then the main boss is like, no, you can't do that. You know, if we do that, that could cause this. And oh my God, it was just.

so much yeah and if we send money that makes us look bad that kind of stuff yeah i mean and then you have her later on being like showing no appreciation to her father whatsoever just be like i'm gonna use his name because i can yeah but really I don't, you know, I don't like him very much. Definitely don't appreciate him much. Well, that's true. Cause it's even mentioned in the movie when the kidnappers, the, I guess we'll call them the quote unquote bad guys in the movie.

have her kidnapped or even mentioned like you've never had to work for anything you know and she she admits to it like you know i get whatever i want but she is very ungrateful and we find out you know she really didn't care much for her father but other than the money side of things and

What a movie. What a freaking movie, man. The musical score you mentioned, I thought was really good. I loved the strings and the different things in the music. I was having fun with that, too. But, man, dude, I'm telling you, the shootouts, the...

The grenade launcher thing was my favorite. We got the explosion at the end of the movie, which was the ultimate twist that I thought was awesome. So many good things in this movie to talk about that are fun, dude, that are just fun to watch. A ton of... nudity in this one this is the scent uh scintilly the arena girl never kept her clothes on in this movie other than a bikini at one point and then after that she's naked the whole movie you're like what in the world

She doesn't mind kidnappers having their way with her either. It's almost like she welcomed me. Give me some whiskey. That's like I have whiskey. Like, what in the world? And I knew instantly from that moment when she says, give me more whiskey. And she looks at the guys. I'm like, what's going on here? And the next thing you know, there's like, you know, this rape.

scene going on which is not turns out to not be what you think it is and then she's enjoying this stuff and you're like okay wait a minute this is weird now so now we know why because she is a straight up just nipho and she likes that kind of scenario so Yeah.

So it's sweet. I don't know where to go with this, Ian. I don't know. Let's follow Linzetta for a few minutes. What did you think of Henry Silva in this movie, though, compared to, say, Caliber 9, the Italian connection? What did you think of his character?

this one it was it was interesting to see him be cold and then show a lot of like angry emotion towards santilli's character like that one part where he's like i've been in between your legs for a week or something like that he's like it's making me soft i mean we saw him do something similar in private prostitute actually where he plays a very cold

hitman character that has this way of becoming angry or is the you know this this sort of thing bringing out a rise in him this sort of sexual energy i guess you may call it In this, I think he's arguably at his coldest because of what he has to do to Don Giuseppe Daniello. And then that part, I love that part when he gets her back, when he gets Santilli.

character back and uh you know he just comes out with a car just hits this guy and breaks the car right in half like literally right in half i've never seen Who can hit a car and break it in half like that, dude? I've never seen that before. Supposedly, he gets the young guys to rally around him, though. He does say at one point, he's like, I'm taking over for Don Carrasco and all the young guys, supposedly probably all the ones that helped him out.

the christening uh are gonna follow him so that that i found was interesting and you know you could believe that he would get people to rally around for sure he has he has that kind of charisma and that kind of leadership at least in that one scene where they're preparing to all do it they all

end up being alive when it's all over so why wouldn't they want to follow him i guess well yeah and you you need a heavy hand and you can you know you're going to follow that person that you know can handle himself and he clearly can handle himself so you know i would if i was in that scenario I would definitely back him because I'm like, hey, if I'm going to survive, I need to be with him, not against him. So I could totally see that, man.

That scene where you talk about the crash, the car scene, was freaking out just out of nowhere, smashed. And I'm like, what the hell? Who manufactured this car? I don't know what the world happened because it just splits and half and explodes. And I'm like, what a great scene. There is two. We got to talk about this. I think we should talk about Cokie's character, man, because I love his character. And after the.

The initial cinema thing that happens, the explosion. We got that scene in the morgue where they're kind of examining the bodies. And that's where we have that hysterical moment where the one guy's brother's in there going nuts. And Cokie comes in. And then we got the inspector. You know, the inspector comes in. And he's like, ah, shut up. You get out of here. And y'all move on. Go. Who says that? They're mourning somebody. They're checking out bodies. Y'all go find somebody.

i would never think that would ever happen anywhere but whatever i guess in italian cinema you can do that but i found that hilarious but at the same time it's when you kind of find out who koki is and yeah and we get to know okay Cookie's going to be the guy that you're going to follow through this movie. And what a tremendous actor, man. Pierre Paolo Caponi.

And I don't know if you caught the documentary that's on this Blu-ray. Yeah, I did. He was all over it. He was, and I loved that because seeing him, I don't know when that was shot. That was several years ago, you could tell. But...

It was interesting just listening to him. Of course, you had to read subtitles, but I thought the documentary was okay for what it was. I really enjoyed his take on the movie and how he had to get himself into... certain moods because you know he has to play a Ruth he plays a ruthless guy in this movie right he's a really you know hard-nosed bad not you know bad dude that is not his I would say normal

So having to get into that character could be kind of hard. But everybody on that documentary was talking about, and I know you caught on this, was Fernando was a low-kill, you know, just smooth guy that... You know, he's a different type director than a lot of these guys, I'm sure, probably. Yeah, I've never heard anybody say anything bad about him. I mean, we've heard bad stories about pretty much every other director that we love. Most of the time, people...

have good things to say about people i guess except for ricardo freda most of the time people say bad things about him but um most most of the other directors they'll say good things about but every once in a while there'll be someone who's who will say oh i didn't like working with dario or jento or dario or

who had a hard time working with this person. Same thing goes for Lucio Fulci, whereas to Leo, it seemed like everybody seemed to like him. That's true. And by the way, happy birthday to... lucia fulci today yes i don't know how old he would have been today either uh it would have been uh 98

98. Okay. Yep. So Lucio Fulci. And then I always keep right by me, by the way. I always keep my Lucio Fulci bobblehead. Nice. I love this thing. This was from a cat in the brain grindhouse released. Absolutely love this. And I keep. fulci by me all the time i wish they come out with argento one like that but anyways

Here or there. It's here or there. I thought that hearing these stories about Fernando was really cool. Seeing him, I think he actually had a part in the movie, it looked like. I think maybe he had a cameo in there somewhere. He's had parts in some of them. have a part in uh caliber nine he was the guy he was a guy on a payphone at the very beginning he had a part in i think it was um

I think it was a pistol for Ringo he had a small part in as well. He's had parts in movies before. Nice. Let's see. Other characters in this one. I would say you mentioned Lawyer, played by Corrado Gappie. Gianni Garko, who plays Commissioner Torrey, distinguished guy in the documentary, and you could tell in the movie, too. I feel like he's that guy.

that would never be seen without a suit on. I would think that he probably goes to bed in a suit. He just has that look about him. But I loved his character in this one. I loved the twist in this one where it kind of goes. really cool really cool character man yeah he's like a really slimy sort of uh cop and you know uh an informant for the mafia who's who's willing to take either side of the mafia depending on which one which one is is you know uh

let's say on the up and up. Yeah. Yeah. Basically that's how it goes in this for him. He's a great actor. We've seen him in movies before and I can get to my. uh hall of fame rankings too yes let's do that we wanted to do that for the cast members um so this is henry silva's fourth movie that we've done on the show so he is officially a uh a hall of famer he will end up being an all-time great at some point and i wanted to do some stipulation i think

In order to be an all-time great, at least for these rankings to me, you have to be a person who kind of stars in these movies. Some of the background character actors, I'll say, they can still be in the Hall of Fame, but I don't necessarily know if they can be all-time greats. The difference between Michael Jordan and...

maybe uh certain average hall of famers that may have just made it because they were on the 60s celtics or something like that that makes sense i actually like that yeah uh richard conti i don't know if we've ever done another richard conti movie we will end up doing more um because he's in

some other euro crime movies like uh the violin professionals and shoot first die later uh gianni garko is actually a hall of famer now because we have done uh cold eyes of fear uh body puzzle and uh i don't and the

psychic as well. So we'll end up doing more from him because we'll end up covering the Sartana movies at some point. I know we will. Oh, yeah. And then let's see here. Who else do we got Antonio Santelli. I think this is the only movie where we're going to cover from her. Corrado guy is

actually a Hall of Famer as well, because he was in Death Walks on High Heels. What have they done to your daughters in the fifth chord? Heck yeah. And for the people looking, I'm on my phone, so I'm looking down at my phone to do this. And then Howard Ross. Howard Ross will...

end up being a Hall of Famer. So far, I think he's got three films on his resume. It would be the Pajama Girl case and the Warriors of the Year 2072. There's one big movie that's going to put him in the Hall of Fame eventually. Where he plays a guy with two fingers. is missing. That's your hint for what the movie is.

Marino Masi, I believe, is just an all-star. He'll end up being something more than that eventually. I think we saw him in Phantom of Death, but we'll see him again in probably Tenebrae and Contamination. Gianni Musi, who plays Carlos. Artardi. He's in a ton of Eurocrime movies, none of which we've covered yet. Claudio Nicostro's in a bunch of them as well. None of them we covered yet. Andrea Aureli. Have we seen him in anything else? Yes. Don't Torture a Duck League.

Kelly's dad. Yes, yes. I knew I'd seen him. He's the guy right at the beginning who gets killed in the theater. So we've seen him in Don't Torture a Duckling. And that might be all I have for the rankings. Capricoli is officially also an all-star after this episode because he's also in the next movie we're doing, Rulers of the City. He plays sort of the good police commissioner in this that we see in some scenes.

I liked him too. I liked the budding of heads between the two. I thought that was pretty cool. And I love his little, I don't know, he had a weird stance about it. He's got a cool character though. That's cool, but I love the all-stars. I love the Hall of Famers, and I love the stipulation. I think it should be mentioned because there are a lot of actors that are kind of bit parts and whatnot.

uh so i kind of like what you're going there man that's that's really cool yeah yeah cool man i like it anymore on there because i think that was about it right Yeah, that was about it. I do have some stuff that I wanted to read from this book from Blood in the Streets. You can see that. Look at that book.

Lord, is that still available? Because that's gorgeous. It might be on Amazon. One of my friends was one of the ones who pointed it out to me because I think Sean Baker, the filmmaker who I think... actually just won the oscar for best director if i'm not mistaken for anora yeah sean won like four awards four or five yeah he um he posted a picture of this book and then my friend sent it to me like he's a huge fan of italian genre cinema sean baker

You can follow him on Letterboxd, and he'll have watched a bunch of those releases. He had a review of Killer Crocodile at one point. He was like, he liked Killer Crocodile 2 more, and he said the reason why is because it had more nudity. So that's exactly how Sean Baker rolls the guy who is the Oscar winning director. This is one of us. And it's called blood in the streets. Yeah. Blood in the streets by Austin Fisher, I believe. Okay.

Yeah. So the most overt theme, and I think I've read some of this before, of DeLeo's mafia films is one of which mob corruption being imbricated within every facet of Italy's civic, political, and religious life. This is most vividly depicted in The Boss when the Sicilian mob boss, Don Carrasco, collaborates with corrupt Commissioner Tory to enact politicians' desires in the sanctuary of a cathedral. The scene's dialogue...

setting and soundtrack work together to emphasize the extent of mafia influence, both in Italian and papal institutions and abroad. Firstly, a cardinal says to Don Carrasco, thank you for the authorings of your American friends and for your generosity. Make yourself at home.

Then church organ music punctuates the conversation as Carrasco reveals the full extent of his influence to Tory. Don Carrasco, quote, when someone does something for me, I show my appreciation. I'll have you promoted. There are deputies who owe me a lot and some are there because.

I got them there. Commissioner Torrey, quote, right now, the authority of the state depends on order, and you appreciate order, Don Carrasco. That is why your parliamentary friends and I don't consider you an outlaw. We consider you a collaborator. And then I have some more of more interest for the purposes of this book are ways in which to Leo's characters repeatedly demonstrate an overt preoccupation with the past time and time again. The viewer is presented with older mafiosi lament.

the passing of a more honorable age as bygone codes of honor are disregarded by young punks who have no respect. Let's see here. Don Carrasco, an ill boss, objects to a proposed merger with a drug dealing Calabrian criminals because our family, quote unquote, is strictly Sicilian. The mafia.

the mafia has existed for centuries and survives because we are sicilian through bonds of blood kinship and marriage we can't let them in our family So and then it says in a more comedic vein in rulers of the city, the old timer Napoli lectures a young criminal about his years of training to be a pickpocket, but is mocked.

because bag snatching from a scooter is a more modern form of street crime. He later rants that the fun has gone out of being a criminal nowadays because modern thieves and kidnappers are idiots. I love it. The book is still viable. For $24.95 on Amazon. And I think you can find it on eBay, too. The picture image is not on Amazon, though. It says still coming, but paperback.

And then it says Commissioner Torrey also talks about sort of the I can't remember exactly what this is about, but just how the mafia has changed. And he says when he says that Sicily's mafia bosses are being forced to move north and are leaving idiots.

fill the power vacuum thus causing chaos in palermo i remember that moment of the movie too yeah um and then i'll have one last one here the laments of delio's old-timer mafiosi are also aimed at more recent developments presented in the films of licentious young generation with no respect for tradition or family ties, such as the growth of student militancy that had started in 1967, an ill boss, the kidnapped daughter.

of Don Daniello reveals herself to be a student anarchist as well as a drug addict, an alcoholic, and a nymphomaniac admitting to sleeping with professors and criminals and ecstatically cavorting with her captors while her honorable elderly mafioso father struggles to set her

free nice man i gotta get this book bro uh that looks like about 400 pages am i exaggerating no it's not no it's actually a fairly small book really um yeah i mean okay okay all right it looked a little bit bigger when you first and the 235 is basically the end of it so it's not too bad

All right, I'll be picking that up eventually. I got to get it. There's only two more left on Amazon, but it says more coming. So there you go. You get more of them. That's cool, man. I appreciate the quotes, man. I love hearing quotes from movies because you can see it. Right, I can see it in the movie. I think it's duly noted that...

The disc that we watched, this is one, of course, Ian once again gifted me. On the Blu-ray, they give you the audio version of either going English or Italian. I did an English on this one as well. I did it for Henry Silva. Okay. dubbing was not that far off so it wasn't distracting in this one as I mentioned way back in caliber 9 which was really distracting but in this one was actually really good but you can watch both versions if you buy the discs so that's always a good option

right? Sometimes watching English and then go back and watch an Italian or vice versa. I appreciate that they give you those options for sure. So I think it's a really good disc to own for that. What do you have on dubbing corner on this one? So Edward Mannix is dubbing Pier Palo Capone as Cokie.

frank von kugelin is dubbing howard ross as melendi robert spafford is dubbing andrea orelli as don antonio atardi the guy at the beginning yeah um michael forrest dubs gianni moosey is carlo atardi's brother edmund purdom does Corrado Gapa as the lawyer Rizzo and Edmund Purdom we're actually going to see in the next film coincidentally Ted Russoff dubs Gianni Garko as Commissioner Torrey okay

Nice. Was there any standouts to you that really like... dubbing why somebody that you just knew immediately or did you well ed manix's voice is always the giveaway just because i've heard and frank von kugel and truth be told those are those two are always dead giveaway because von kugel and always dubbed tomas milion

in a lot of his roles, including in Almost Human. Ed Mannix dubbed Jack Headley in New York Ripper. So that's a voice that I've heard many times, and I always go back to that movie for that. Forrest dubbing Gianni Musi is a big one. went to forest dubbed uh mauricio murley and a lot of the euro crime movies so he's he's a voice that you would know edmund purdom also just because he's played some pretty iconic roles including the dean in pieces among others yeah

That's cool. Looking at the end of this movie without giving away necessarily the ending. Once again, we may have some calls that actually give it away. If they do, I'm sorry. Nothing I can do about that. But... without giving away the full ending, this movie ends with a, to be continued title card. And it's like, okay. And then we never get a continuance. Well, never. I, you know, I don't even know if he was doing that. In terms of making a sequel, I think his point was...

this whole mafia cycle of blood violence and betrayal is going to be continued. That's my idea. It's like, it's almost like an allegorical to be continued. Yeah. Yeah, totally. I just love the way it just kind of. of ends and you got him looking at the camera i thought was really cool giovanni joe actually sued the production company of this one because of his character being in this movie or his name being mentioned and then that was eventually dropped yeah

It's mentioned, I think, in the Italian dub specifically. Yeah, not in the English dub. I think either Koki or Tori goes on a rant about different, like, mafiosos or something, and his name is mentioned. Yeah. And, of course, that was eventually... dropped and nothing came from that. Let's see, anything else in here? You mentioned Luis Bacalvi's soundtrack on this one, the score, and he actually was in caliber nine score as well. So we do have a continuance there. What else you got on the boss?

Nothing I can think of. I think we went over everything that I could have possibly gone over. I mean, I wanted to make it a point to read some stuff from that book because I thought it would be interesting. And it's been fun going over this.

This is a really good movie. Yeah. I thoroughly enjoyed it. A tagline for this one's killers versus killers. And here, I love this. We didn't mention this. We got to mention this. Cause we, we always talk about, uh, this was not a shallow. Now this is not a shallow. any form but we got to mention this because we always talk about um certain things being in shallow films being the jmb bottle we got the uh astro cigarettes these things right

So in this, we have a scene that you mentioned, Ian, and I was 100% backing on you. There's a scene where an individual comes into the room where these kidnappers are at, and there is a stack of J&B boxes. That made my eyes get this big. I was like, dude, I want a box of J&B right freaking now. I need a J&B box of scotch like they had. It was freaking insane, bro. But I got a kick out of that.

product placements the way they just kind of place certain things certain places uh but here is the tags that that imdb has for this movie jmb scotch check sex check female nudity check pornography check that blitz of tesquia check so it's like what was that rum that they're in silva and uh and centilly what was that room with all the porn in the background like all those pictures what was that about it's in his room right like it i don't know but it's like all these naked

women all over the wall and then I guess maybe that's why he likes to sleep I don't know dude it was so you know people like art right you know I will say this her fate of the movie is actually pretty dark it just made me think of it but yeah like what happens to her is like actually kind of dark when you really think about it yeah I totally agree dude and here's the thing like

Do you like her character? Do you dislike her character? Is she a good character? I mean, a good person, a bad person, whatever. But do you kind of feel remorse with what happens to her? Yeah, there's all them scenarios. in this movie and you can call it whichever way you want it doesn't really you know hold much in this movie but at the same time it was actually one of those scenes where you're like

Damn. But I had a lot of fun, dude. A lot of fun with this movie. So let's go ahead and pass around our ratings on this one, Ian. All right, so where do you come in for The Boss? I'm giving it a nine. I'm going to hit a nine as well. And the reason behind that is first-time viewing. I think it's going to take another viewing, as you mentioned. If you go in to watch this, and we, man, I'm going to tell you, I know you're going to bat me on this, Ian.

Please watch this movie. I think once you watch it, I think Ian is 100% right. I think there's so much going on with different... different twists and turns of the way characters are going that I think it does take that Sackett viewing to make it even a little bit better or maybe a little worse. So I do want to give it a Sackett viewing before I go up and say this is a 9.5 or a 10. But for me, 9 flat.

Great movie. Lots of fun. Glad we got to watch this one. So that is The Boss, 1973. So let's go into our next one and the last one of this episode. And it is, once again, in this set. Or you can get the individual discs that Ian has as well. They're still available. Look at that. God, those individual discs are so freaking sweet. This one actually works out really well for me, Ian, because I got so much...

less shelf space and having it all into one. And I've done this on the previous two episodes. So let's do it on this one as well. There are individual discs. So they're not just a single disc with two movies on each disc or whatever. You get an individual disc, so I appreciate that. But let's go ahead and get into it. It's 1976, and it's called Rulers of the City. And let's head over to you, Ian, what you got for a plot synopsis.

Okay, so the paradox of rulers of the city is that the rulers are small-time crooks and suburban gangsters who barely manage to make ends meet. But that's what makes the film so real and accurate, and perhaps why Quentin Tarantino credits Le Pedroni della Cheetah as the pivotal force behind his decision to be a filmmaker. In the film, Tony is a mob loan collector who's...

unsatisfied with his position in life, and constantly dreams of living it rich in Brazil with his brother. To make some quick cash, Tony joins forces of the organized crime, making his way up the ladder. Together with Napoli, another mob enforcer, Tony hatches a plan to Cobb. con mob boss Manzari aka Scarface played by Jack Palance out of a fortune but Manzari isn't about to let that happen once again first time viewing for me

I think you had texted me early on saying you love the characters of Tony and Rick. Tony, Harry, Bear. Yeah, it's like a really good buddy movie between those two. Perfect combination. Harry, Bear. plays Tony, he's a German actor, and then you've got Al Cliver that we know very well, Ian, from so many good movies that we know Zombie.

your favorite movie the beyond and many other yeah also one of the kings of uh post-apocalyptic films because he's in several of those that we watched there you go yeah uh this movie man is for me as a movie I had more fun with this one than The Boss. I think The Boss may be the better movie, but this one was a lot of fun. This movie's funny. I mean, it is very funny in parts. It's a lot more loose. It's not quite as serious. It is a more fun movie to watch.

watch it is absolutely um this is also known as mr scarface and mr scarface is played by none other than jack palance as you mentioned he plays manzeri in this movie and we see that opening sequence where we got

a a fight take place and someone dies with a boy watching and that plays out in the movie we find out who this boy is later on at the end of this movie um tony once again i thought was tremendous i want the puma gt It is a Puma GT dune buggy, basically, that he drives in this movie multiple times. It's awesome. It's red. I want that freaking car. I looked it up. I was like, Puma GT. I want a Puma GT. And the only things I kept seeing were just regular Puma.

I didn't see any dune buggy type cars. But regardless, I really love this movie. And I love this car. And the fact that in the documentary in this one, if you didn't get a chance to listen to it, I'll spoil a little bit of it. In this one, one of the characters had mentioned... that Harry Bear playing Tony had a very bad case of hemorrhoids.

And that he was constantly having to jump in and out and sit in this car. He was jumping. Man, he gets in this car so many times. This is like a thing from another world with the door closing. He's always getting in and out of this car. And man, having him running. You know what I will say? It didn't show in some.

of the scenes because it looks like it looks like all three of the stars of this movie did all like a lot of their own stunts i mean maybe not al cliver on the motorcycle that was probably somebody else it was but yeah it was a motocross champion wasn't it yeah from what i remember but still a lot lot of them are doing their own stunts and like

Harry Bear is doing a ton of acrobatic stuff in this. He's doing parkour before that was a thing. They establish him right away as a badass and a ladies' man and everything. Just a guy you'd want to be, basically. you know he goes to this guy this older gentleman who's i'd say much bigger in stature than he is and he just beats the crap out of him like looking to collect his money i mean he's doing all these things like he's he's dodging shots he's he's you know

running off the walls to kick him like he's doing all this crazy stuff and then we later see him fight three guys at once where he basically just dodges them and punches them a few times and that's about it but it's like he's just they establish right away that this guy is a heck of a fighter Yeah, there was three.

And now there's none. Yeah, that's later on. That's at the one towards the end where there's a really good chase scene across the streets of Rome. This one takes place in Rome and not Milan. And you can tell that the infrastructure and the landmarks look very different. Yeah, it was funny.

He wears this shirt, Tony, wears this shirt, Brazil, and it's B-R-A-S-I-L because that's the Italian way to spell Brazil. But here's the thing. I text you. I said, what is the significance? Like, they mentioned Brazil a million times in this movie. And I was like, did they shoot some of this in Brazil? Were we getting money from Brazil? Brazil is in a lot of posters and a lot of maps and a lot of just everything in this movie. Brazil has got its stamp everywhere.

And there is nothing in this movie that says, other than the fact Tony wants to go stay with his brother, right? But as a filmmaker, why are we concentrating so much on Brazil in this movie? Like, I don't, did they back money? Like, I don't know. Like, dude, I was questioning, like, why in the world Brazil, of all places? And why is it everywhere?

Bastard everywhere. I thought it was interesting anyways. But I do love Tony's character. And as you mentioned, he is a badass. But you look at him, he looks like an average size guy. Smaller than I am. Walks in. But he's like the Rocky of... you know, back in the day going and collecting money. And, dude, he may not look like he can fight, but he'll whoop your ass in a heartbeat, dude. And I love that about him. Well, even –

even that scene with Beppe, he's like, Beppe looks like in way better shape than he does. And he still beats Beppe up. Not easily. That's one of the closer fights in the movie, but still he manages to do it. I like that. napoli is taking bets with one of the guys at one point he's like yeah that tony will win he's smarter yeah yeah then he's like yeah now you owe me money oh my god there's so many fun characters in this one we got so many of you know we got

Scarface played once again by Jack Pounce. We got his situation, which he becomes prevalent more toward the end in the beginning. In the middle, he's kind of disappeared. We just know about him. But there's this scene where he shows up in a poker table and he –

he doesn't have enough money writes a check and that's where the movie kind of takes place is him trying you know they're like oh you took this check and you know we owe him money blah blah blah so tony decides i'll go get the money you know i'm gonna do this i'm gonna try to work my way up the ranks and That ends up backfiring a little bit on them as far as the family itself.

but man the characters are fun in this movie man there is some really heavies in this one there's some really cool shootout sequences in this one this is the one that you text me and i was back and forth with you with that shootout sequence which i thought was phenomenal dude i thought they

really uh we got motorcycle chase we got car chase we got everything going on that you want in a crime thriller like this one dude i thought yeah it's all in this like slaughterhouse area so there's a nice there's a lot of like wide open space for it too yeah it was perfect and we got the what was the older gentleman that's with and i cannot never remember his name the uh uh the third one of the group when napoli napoli vittorio caprioli uh dude his character

There's a scene at the end of the movie when we're at the climax and we're doing this whole slaughter place in the car and the motorcycle. He's trying to shoot this guy and he shoots like four times and misses him. He's only like what? Ten feet away from him. He's like pew. and he's missing, but the guy's looking around each time a bullet comes out. I'm like, okay. He makes one good shot at the end indirectly. Indirectly makes one good shot. And he gives that look like, yeah, I did that.

I thought it was awesome. It's like the harder shot that you've got to make, you make. But the one that's just sitting right directly in front of you. And he even makes a mention in it when he shoots and he misses, because he does it before that, too. He's like, hmm. And he's acting like maybe the sighting's off or something. You're 10 feet away, bro. Like, come on, dude. God bless. Yeah, this is like a...

Lone Ranger movie. Oh, we got a character in this movie. He was a debtor. Fernando Caroli. You remember Fernando? You remember him? Fernando Caroli plays the debtor. He is one of the guy that looks really sickly. Oh, yeah. He was also in Caliber 9. He's been in Death Smiles on a Murderer. A lot of movies that we recognize, dude. But I saw his character pop up on IMDb. I was like, yeah, I do remember him, man. Doesn't have a big part in this movie at all, but just had to mention it.

his name man because we've seen him before but what did you think of this one overall we've we've kind of kind of went all over the place let's kind of break it back down um what did you think of the plot of this one we just basically had tony doing what he's doing Well, I like that, you know, it's basically, it comes down to...

Him, him and Rick where he wants money to be able to escape. But it's very funny how, you know, he goes about this whole thing with Scarface, right? He basically says, well, I'll take the check to him because Scarface basically asked, can I, can I. of cash a check in uh in the pool hall that luigi is running basically says well i'll go to collect his money and and not only does he collect his money he ends up taking more than that which luigi and beppe don't know that he takes more

They don't know that he takes more. Then he just ends up blowing a bunch of that money on hookers and stuff like that in one night, which is very funny. Him and Rick just blow a bunch of that money on Clara, who we see early in the film.

um and and some others and that was that was pretty funny normally you wouldn't see people do something like that but how he gets a hold of this money is he disguises himself as like a tax collector to look through his files and then basically he has uh he has the right hand who we saw in the last movie, Johnny Musi's character, pay him off. And that was really funny.

That was a good moment, too, though. It really was. It shows Tony can use his wits just as much as his fists, I guess. That scene where he is in the tax office and the guy's trying to hand him the money. He's like, oh, no, no, no, no. Don't hand it me. You take it in.

there and hand it to him. Give him the blue folder. I don't want to touch it. He's such a slicker. I will say this about this film. I don't want to say that I feel bad for Scarface and for Luigi, but like they're not as mean or as evil as your typical euro crime villains especially luigi like luigi's kind of just doing his own thing and then he gets killed at one point by beppe who betrays him like beppe is arguably the biggest villain in the movie and luigi doesn't

really deserve that like he's kind of just yeah I don't firstly I don't think he deserves it I mean he doesn't really do anything bad to Tony you know at any point in the movie really I mean if you really think about Luigi all he basically is is just kind of a collector of money, right? They have these money laundering things. He's not...

I mean, that's bad. Don't get me wrong. Yeah, it's not like he's out here executing people. Well, I guess they are too, though. But anyway, in the movie itself, we don't see him doing anything drastic. But then, like you said, Pepe played by Enzo. uh he is definitely the heavy of this movie he's definitely the villain of this movie and uh that fight with him and tony was awesome dude that was just a really good fight and uh i do like luigi in this edmund purdom i thought he was really

His character was kind of – to being somebody that's supposed to be a leader of this group, I thought he was a little bit of a pushover. And I thought his character was kind of like – I didn't buy that he would be the kind of leader. I thought that Pepe would have took –

him out anytime but you know it works for the movie i did like his character you know where it went the the the demise of him was was wow yeah what ended up happening to him but the cleric yeah go ahead I was just going to say in this movie, it seems like the main characters are.

ahead at every turn i mean rick has his own plan that obviously comes to fruition like he plans to do almost everything that he does in this movie i'm not going to spoil exactly what the ending is and why he's doing what he's doing yeah but rick is one step ahead

and so is tony like the whole movie like and even napoli has that one point where you know he calls scarface then they then rick sets up the whole thing with the drugs and scarface just thinks it's going to be a business deal at the end of the movie and get surprised

it's not so they're really one step ahead the entire movie they almost never seem like they're in any any danger truth be told yeah and that's the thing too uh one of the things i want to look at too was that whole setup of them you know just trying to do a drug sale right

felt like it was a little too easy i would think somebody in the scarface caliber that he would know better than do something like that he would have had to know like something's awry here but but regardless i mean what happened there i love that rick and tony

who are from two different spectrums are able to come together and work together, even though they really have different... motives yeah but they play together so well and what ends up happening with those three in that chase at the end and that whole sequence is dude it's so freaking good man i'm telling you from the the motorcycle scene which once again we know was a a stunt uh motocross champion and there's even mention in the documentary

that there's a scene where they had to build this ramp and he jumps and that when he did the jump he like even went out of camera sequence like he was going so and they were like wow you know we got it but we didn't get it because it went out and he's like well i can go slower or whatever so this is all these sequences that he

with a motorcycle was awesome i have driven a motorcycle myself i know kind of the whole scenario and it's he's very talented on that thing dude um it's a lot a lot of fun man a lot of fun a lot of shooting in this one that i loved Man, there's so much good about it, Ian. It's just one of those movies that I'm even still remembering back thinking, wow. Like, I want to see it again. Like, I really want to see it again. And I will watch this one a second time for sure, dude.

You were going to talk about Clara. I do like that exchange with her at the beginning where Beppe is like, oh, well, have you slept with her yet, Tony? She's been with this guy and this guy and this guy. And then she's like, yes, I have. one of you has been man enough to satisfy me and she's like come by the club sometimes yeah yeah yeah and we of course get some movie in that scene as well but uh

I don't know, man. I don't know where to go from here. Let's do this. Do you have anything in the book? I know you already mentioned a little bit. Not anymore. I think the only thing I had was that there wasn't as much on this one for that. What do you have? Let's do this. Let's do this. Let me...

Let me get over here. I want to look at this sequence right here. So we have in this one, we have the music. What did you think of the music, which was by Luis Enrique Bacalvi? What did you think of this one? yeah bakalov again um yeah i mean i like that he combined the woodwind uh in this one he brought that back kind of like he did in caliber nine i think it's a little more um ethereal and uh he puts a lot more base into it like it is a different

score from what he did in The Boss. It's a very catchy opening theme tune that, you know, plays a lot throughout the film. Agree. And I think it's like a different, when you get into these type films, when you get to Pulitzer Teske and the, you know, those Crime Euro films, to say a giallo uh i think the music's a little less

uh important in my opinion i think in jello they use that music to really set the moods and jallows you know with your twist and blah blah uh but still they're enjoyable and i thought this one was definitely an enjoyable score shot well i thought the The sequences in this one was shot really well with a lot of action taking place. So I thought they handled that well. And all these were written by Fernando Dalio. So I thought it was really, they're clever stories. They're fun stories to follow.

Let's see, what do you have on the dubbing corner on this one before we get into any more of this? So, let's do this real quick. Go back to this page. Okay. uh robert spafford is dubbing the old the sort of old man at the beginning that he's trying to collect from who he beats up um i don't know if the character had a name um andy luoto is dubbing harry bear as tony i

It's interesting because he sounds a lot like Steven Luoto, who I believe is his son. They do sound quite a bit alike. Gisela Hahn as Clara is dubbed by Carolyn DeFonzica. Al Cliver as Rick is dubbed by Michael Forrest. Let's see here. Ted Russoff is dubbing Gianni Musi as Scarface's right-hand man. Robert Sommer is dubbing Beppe. So I think that might be...

Oh, no, Luis Cinelli is dubbing Caprioli. So he's dubbing Caprioli as Napoli. Okay, cool, cool. I thought it was interesting on the documentary. I didn't ask if you'd seen the documentary.

on this one, did I? I did, yeah. Okay, okay. So I thought it was interesting where Fernando mentioned the fact that Jack Palance being a... actor you know he is a well-established actor by this point you know we know jack palance's name right and he mentioned that in this documentary that he gave him critique like in these sequences don't look

these actors eye to eye, right? You don't, because it's a sign of disrespect. It's almost like you're talking down to them, right? And Jack Pounce kind of took a little bit of offense to that. Like, what are you talking about? I'm an actor. I'm an actor. I know what I'm doing.

type scenario but i think he said what was it i think he said later on in life he came back to him and kind of knew where he was coming at from that perspective but i never realized that i don't i don't i guess i don't know exactly where he's talking about because you're

playing a character, uh, you clearly look people in the eye when you're, when you're acting. So I didn't get that scenario. But anyway, somewhere in there, he's saying you shouldn't look at somebody eye to eye like that, but, but regardless, man, whatever.

Water under the bridge. We know where Jack Palance is at in the history of cinema. Tremendous actors. Two small time hoodlums. Plot to get revenge. Get even with torrentious balls. Did you like the overall at the... very end of this movie did you like the way that it went down um did you see it happening exactly the way it happened in the way they kind of drive off maybe into sunset did you like that

uh i liked it because you don't actually often see that in most of these movies most of the time they're not quite as happy as this and two cokes in a hand the thing about this movie is like Like, for example, with the boss or with caliber nine, we're dealing with characters. Well, especially in the boss that aren't necessarily heroes. Right. Whereas this, I do think your three main characters are supposed to be looked at as good guys. Yeah.

I agree. I agree 100%. What else you got on Rulers of the City? I have a few Hall of Fame rankings here. So Al Cliver is a Hall of Famer, and he will be an all-time great. We haven't even gotten to so many of his movies yet. He is a Hall of Famer for Murder Rock, for Warriors of the Year 2072.

endgame and this movie and 2020 texas gladiators so actually that would actually make him an all-time great already so there we go he's that's five movies isn't it yeah one two three yep so there you go uh i'll clive are all-time great and he'll only keep getting he'll only keep getting higher on that list um let's see here edmund purdom i believe is either i think he's a hall of famer and no he is an all-time great because he's done uh fifth chord absurd

uh 2019 after the fall of new york and this movie so there we go uh no that would be four movies sorry so yeah the hall of famer anybody what about fernando soroli he i believe is also another one let me go to his credits real quick uh got caliber nine the boss death smiles on a murderer watch me when i kill so and actually after next week yeah he'll he'll well

still be hall of famer because he's more in the background uh he's but we'll you know we got a couple of movies next week that he's in both of them so cool cool All right, well, cool. Let's look at any other characters we need to mention. I think we mentioned a lot of them. Once again, let's see. Who do we have? Well, we mentioned Caprioli playing Napoli.

Yeah, I think we've mentioned pretty much everybody. A lot of fun, dude. This one's one of those movies I think you can put on at any time and just watch it and have fun. And you can kind of maybe miss a part here or there and then still pick up on it and still have fun. I love, love, love, love that. al cliver man i just love him as an actor and as soon as i saw him i was like super excited because i didn't know exactly where they were going to go with him

But by the end of it, dude, I just really enjoyed it. They need to find a motorcycle helmet that fits him, though. The helmet's not working for you, Al. You need to go to a tailor or somebody. make helmets that are for extra large heads or whatever not saying you had a large head but whoever was driving the bike before you had a much smaller head than you had because that was really not working for you buddy uh i want the puma gt look up puma gt and look up the dune buggy i'm telling you

a badass ride in. You've got to admit, out of cars that we've seen in cinema, that's one of the coolest ones we've seen. Yeah, I agree. It kind of reminds me of the cartoon Speed Buggy. If anybody knows the cartoon back in the 70s, Speed Buggy. And some of you are my age. Well, no, Ian won't know. You won't know, Ian. Look it up, though, Ian. But it looks like Speed Buggy. I'm just like, yes! I want that car, dude. There's so many cars that I want.

in italian cinema the one that they ride around in all the time the four-door just a little boxy car i don't know what kind of car that is i want one it's it's not even a good looking car it's probably not economically uh valuable uh but man i want it because it's in all the italian cinema movies especially when they're doing chase sequences probably because it's so cheap and you can crash them and not worry about it but I want one so bad, but this Puma GT, I'm assuming is a Puma GT.

Doom buggy. Somebody buy me that. You know what I just realized I never mentioned was we have yet another car that was built with nitroglycerin in this movie when Tony takes the shotgun and just blows it up with one shot. Dude, that's right. And that was an explosion from hell, bro. Ba-bam! All right. Well, if you ain't got nothing else on this, let's go to a rating on rulers of the city.

I'm giving this a nine. Same with The Boss. I don't necessarily think it's quite as good as the first two films, but it's definitely on par with that. Just not quite there, but, you know.

it's just because the first two films are that legendary really yeah yeah it's a nine for me as well and this is a movie that once again i had more fun than i did with the boss i think the boss was a better movie made but i had more fun watching this one than i did the boss so it is a nine for me i can't wait to re-watch this as i'll take a swig of quality h2o there h2o uh once again if you can find the raro video blu-ray get it

right here all four movies caliber nine italian connection the boss and rulers of the city or you can go individual like ian's got excuse me i recommend that Highly recommend it, man. It's such fun. But this is not the episode yet because we still have some voicemails to get to. So we're going to get to those as my little buddy that Pearl got me for my birthday. I mean, for my birthday. Check it out.

No, this is Father's Day. I'm sorry. For Father's Day, isn't that cool? He's got a little nice. He's going to get the phone ready, so let's get this thing. I'm so stupid. We'll get the speaker ready here. Let's get it up and running. We'll play this voicemail here. I think we have four voicemails tonight, listeners. So what we like to do is get these.

and play them for you once again we cannot control if there's spoilers or anything like that and there may be on these but if they are uh just bear with us and and go with it so let's go ahead and go here let me switch over here here here we go

Sorry, so this first one I missed. This was actually... last episode which will been 460 in and it came in uh right about the time we recorded so i did not catch it so i do apologize that we're going to play it on this one i have no clue what's said on this one but it's from our buddy kyle bishop doctor Walking Dead. Let's see what he's got for us. Yeah, this is for Black Glove Mysteries. Black Glove Mysteries. This is Kyle Bishop. I'm a long-term listener and all that.

I just thought I have a little request. So at the end of each episode, I noticed Greg says, like we always like to say, get your jally on. But I've never actually heard Ian say that. So does Greg like to say it and just wants to include Ian? Or does Ian only say it off air? I'm just really puzzled by this. But anyway, so my request is, would it be possible... to hear Ian say, get your jally on. I just love that. I'll take my answer off the air. Thank you. I love that.

Well, actually, you know where that we have an origin story for that, correct? Right. So basically that was one of my original ideas to name the show or name the segment. was Get Your Jolly or Get Your Jolly, really, because it could be pronounced either way. And I thought it would be an interesting name for the show. It's kind of like a nice pun. So that's actually where that comes from. Greg usually just started saying it at the end of the show.

As a way of signing off. Pull the curtain back. We'll do it tonight, Ian. Right when we end the show, I'll go to you and you can do that for Kyle Bishop. Nice. You got to know Kyle Bishop. Who is in, where's he at? I think he's still in England or something. Yeah, he's been taking some vacations and stuff and seeing some really cool locations. He's doing like a Harry Potter. They're doing like a Harry Potter tour too, which is insane. Oh, that's cool. Yeah.

It's been really cool, man. So, yeah, Kyle Bishop, we love you, buddy. All right, so let's go to Ian's father here. Let's see what he's got. Hey, fellas. Luke Urza calling in with a review of Ill Boss. uh if i get cut off i'll give you guys a call back um so this one was a little difficult to watch because of the subtitles and i'm sure a little bit little you know some things got lost in the translation possibly but

Just a few general observations and then maybe some more specific ones. But generally speaking, it seems like this director likes some double crosses in previous movies and certainly this one.

And it strikes me sometimes that these movies are a little unpredictable. So the first scene, or one of the first scenes where the medical examiners, you know, or the morgue people... at the beginning uh i thought was possibly funny uh meaning they had family members in the area while they were examining bodies our medical team was examining bodies which i found

arguably a little insensitive. And then one of the detectives ends up, you know, moving him out of there. But I thought initially that was a little bit insensitive, but also kind of odd and funny in a sense. And it seems like the director likes fire, fire at the beginning of the movie theater, you know, fire to get rid of bodies, like burning them up, cars exploding. So I noticed.

The magic a little bit in this movie was a whole bunch of fire. And then we can begin to, you know, address the double-cross stuff. What I didn't see coming was... Don Giuseppe's daughter, Marina, being involved or kind of going along with it, so to speak, after being kidnapped. So I felt that was a little bit of a double-cross kind of thing.

And then I didn't really see Lanzetta killing Don Giuseppe because he was kind of his mentor or helped grieve Lanzetta. So, you know, I didn't really see that coming either. I thought you had a little bit of loyalty, but... Who knows, maybe that's how it goes with some people's thinking. I also liked the character Don Carrasco.

who Ian and I spoke a little bit, but who played Barzini in The Godfather. It was nice to see him in a movie. A similar character, but still typecast possibly, but good character. I'll give you guys another call back. I might be running out of time. Thanks. He does call back, but let's go ahead.

comment a little bit on what he said so far and uh i totally agree we mentioned that in the scene with the morgue where they had all the family i thought same thing lucas i'm telling you like when they when the inspector comes in and starts telling family members like y'all gotta go quit acting like this quit

you know like they're mourning over their their family here and you're telling them they're insisting get out of here type of deal like who does that well i think what he was pointing out was how it seemed like they were still doing their like doing their work on the bodies before like

they were there yeah like they they weren't just bringing them in to identify them it seemed like they were still doing their work on them they were cutting on them you're right yeah exactly so it's like like you know that seems unprofessional i guess um and then

Yeah, I mean, even going back to Milan caliber nine, you have the people at the very beginning of the movie getting captured and then blown up. So he likes explosions and he likes fire. I agree with that. I think we all do. You know who else does? Beavis the butthead. Maybe they were fans of Fernando. Fire! Fire! We know one person it was, and that's Quentin Tarantino. We can talk about that. Let's go to a second call here.

Hey, Luke Urza, continuing with a review of ill boss. Excuse me. So anyway, we're covering the double cross stuff. So I also found it. interesting that the guy at the end, I don't recall his name, you know, the character, but the guy who tries to kill Lanzetta or Henry Silva at the end, you know, they try to set Silva up. obviously silva figures it out and kills that guy instead um yet again you know obviously some kind of double cross thing um and then a couple other generalizations so um

At the end, the lawyer gets a call from someone and it says, you know, to be continued at the end, which I don't believe that ever was continued. But I kind of wonder. If somebody has a viewpoint that – I wonder if the lawyer is orchestrating a lot of this stuff because the lawyer seems to be – he seems to talk with these people in generalities like I spoke with the bosses or I spoke with these people. you know he kind of directs at the beginning Giuseppe and Carrasco

But you never know really who he's speaking with, and maybe they know, even though we don't see the characters. But I'm just kind of curious if there could be an angle that the lawyer is kind of controlling everything and pitting mafia bosses against each other. for some kind of eventual outcome for himself. And then another generality or whatever observation would be, maybe it would have been a good idea to let Lanzetta have the $500 million.

You know what I mean? Just why try to kill him at the end, I guess? Almost like a retirement gift for Lanzetta, Henry Silva's character. You know, he took out Giuseppe, he took out Carrasco. Lanzetta, you know, did the remaining mafia families a favor, in my opinion.

Two fewer dons, more action, more profits for other families. They could have just let him have the $500 million, and that would be that. I don't know. So anyway, those are some observations about Ill Boss. I'll give you guys a call back about who was in the city. Bye.

Okay, so let's talk about that, the lawyer and the boss. I kind of agree with you. I think the boss – I think the lawyer definitely pulled a lot of strings. I think he had a lot of – I don't want to call him maybe the right-hand man to a lot of the Dons, but he was definitely – Like a right hand man. He was able to pull strings.

Yeah, I think the only thing that's unclear with him is how much he's planning from the beginning or how much he's doing it as he goes. I mean, he's obviously behind something, but it's like you don't really know if he's playing it all out from kind of how it goes from the beginning.

how much he's involved with like koki or how much he he kind of uh pivots later on to being uh you know being a person who yet again is just betraying everybody and trying to get his own leg up basically yeah feel like it was lenzetta that called him at the end uh who knows maybe i don't know it it warrants that he did but we don't know the timeline because where the ending happens

And then where the lawyer gets the call, it makes it seem like that Lenzetta would be walking down the street somewhere and wouldn't have the chance to call you. I don't know. I mean, it's movie magic and it makes no difference because it.

never plays out but it's just something a little i think maybe lenzetta called him and said hey it's done you know let's go from there and you see that little smile he has on his smirk on his face like yeah i got what i wanted uh so cool so let's go to uh luke's last call here Hey fellas, Luke Urza calling with a review of Rulers of the City. So first off, always good to see Jack Palance in any kind of movie, truthfully. Great actor, great...

on-screen personality, et cetera. Wonderful actor. So Rulers of City, I thought was good. I really enjoyed... The whole thing I liked all the characters in it Luigi Kind of middle middle kind of man or whatever you want to call it as far as organizationally. And I thought it was interesting that Pepe, you know, kills him and tries to, you know.

get in on the business by taking his place, taking his position. But then Pepe was killed by Rick, which, quite frankly, anybody that Rick killed, I was not surprised by because I felt like... He was the child at the beginning who saw his father get killed by Jack Palance. So thematically, what I enjoyed was how Rick kind of orchestrates. And makes all the plans to draw Scarface out and uses Tony and, oh boy, the other guy. Oh, shoot, I can't remember his name right now. The older gentleman.

He makes all the plans, and they're kind of subtle. He's like, I have an idea. And they scan the guy out of $10 million or something, pretending to be policemen or inspectors or whatever, all in an effort to... kind of aggravate and draw out Scarface to get, obviously, revenge. This is kind of a silly observation, but... The walkie-talkies those guys were using, they were huge, like huge. The antennas on them were enormous. I found that kind of comical, truthfully. But overall, great movie.

And I really enjoyed it. So keep going, guys. Love the show. And I'll talk to you guys soon. Bye. Yeah, first of all, the character you mentioned, the older Jim, I can't remember his name either. He's the third wheel. The only reason I remember it is because of Mike Napoli, the baseball player. That makes it easy enough to remember. Nice.

Yeah, I did like his character. And what he's mentioned about the movie, it is a fun movie, dude. It is a lot of fun. And I love, I never, we didn't mention this during the episode we should have had or I should have had.

The name Rulers of the City makes sense because we have these different bosses kind of together ruling this area. I thought that was a clever title for a movie. When you look at a name for a crime movie, Rulers of the City don't... really come out and say wow but it actually does kind of fit the motive uh great call man love hearing from luke your father dude it's awesome dude i love that y'all have that rapport with each other and can

you know shoot ideas off each other like that and everything that's awesome yeah it seems like since the Collins became a thing we we we will talk about the movies like once Like, you know, a couple of days before the episode or something. Nice. Yeah. I love that. Well, you can also call in if you want to have your voice heard and you want us to play your voicemail and have us answer it. You can do that.

5 6 9 5 6 8 2 we typically record on different days we typically record on tuesdays so just letting you know that in advance like a week in between episodes uh but if you call in we'll try to play it and we will uh answer you the best we can Uh, so if you want to do that, once again, 1-804-569-5682, we'll definitely do that. And, uh, yeah, it's been fun, dude. Yeah, sure. All right. So let's go ahead and let the listeners know, what is the next episode of LOTC going to be?

all right so we are doing slaughter hotel that would be movie number one fernando de leo we're sticking with fernando de leo this is the only giallo he ever directed to my knowledge and They're going for his sort of comedy drama film, but it's kind of with a tinge of exploitation to be 20. I love it.

Uh, Ian had gifted me this one for my birthday. So I do have Slaughter Hotel on Blu-ray that I have not even cracked open the seal, which I'll be doing for the episode. And I had to do it as well, Ian. I had to go get that to be 20. Dude, this is crazy. Like, Fernando de Leo, who I knew nothing about until you mentioned, let's do these Fernando movies and you sent them.

I've got almost as many movies as his as I do of some of my favorite directors now. It's crazy. Yeah, that's why. Well, six films, yeah. And I actually still have... I don't even know where the other ones are. I know I got a couple more Fernandos over here somewhere. Yeah. Yeah, so I still have...

And I'm going to make a mess right here, listeners, because I've got stuff scattered all over. Yeah, there they went. There they went. And I still have, like, loaded guns. Yeah, that's another one of his. Yep. Andrus. Ursula Andress, Woody Strode, Mark Perel. Sort of a fun Eurocrime comedy movie. Ursula Andress is naked for the whole entire movie if you're looking for some eye candy. So we have that sitting over there, man.

Yeah, I've literally, you've made me buy into Fernando, and I've actually enjoyed it, man. He is a really, really, really good director. I hope you listeners have enjoyed these rides. We've been taking down his avenue of movies. I know we haven't really been in.

to giallo's lately uh those are coming one of them being the next episode was slaughter hotel we'll definitely get into uh and we still have so much down the road listeners we have not done argento yet we have not done fulci yet of course uh

God, there's so many directors we haven't even scratched the surface. Well, I definitely want to do some Sergio Corbucci at some point as well. Not Giallo related. Again, more spaghetti westerns with him. But still, I definitely want to touch on some of his stuff.

some point we should probably do some more of those forgotten gialli sets as well as you know when we buy them uh i might try to get the third one soon so we can do that Yeah, it was the third one I was able to pick up and I picked up the eighth one, which was the newest one.

Yeah, so I was able to pick up the eighth one, but I still got to get four, five, six, and seven. They are pricey. Yeah, there's a lot of them. But to be honest, I think they've all been worth it so far. They have. I think the quality of the films has been good enough. I mean, I don't necessarily think every film has been great.

But just the quality of watching them, how they look on screen has been good. And it's fun to discover new things. And you know what? If we want to keep watching even more Giallo, we can go to our buddy's page on Odyssey. and just watch some on there so there we go the giallo realm channel has a ton that we haven't seen that's right

Yeah, absolutely. Vinegar Syndrome banging out these Forgotten Jollies, and we love them. Once again, we're going to continue into those eventually. It just takes time because, honestly, they're pricey, and Ian and I, you know, guys on budgets, man. you know as we can pick up these we'll do those and uh

all that stuff. So lots of stuff down the road. So just stick with us. And I hope you've enjoyed our, our roll down Euro crime and these bullets of Teske's and different things too, man. He's a bit of fun. Yeah. These are all new watches for me. So Italian cinema, we mentioned it at the, very beginning of the episode in our title. That's what we were doing is this thing. LOTC presents Mortis Vision with Greg Amortis and the Twisted Temptress. Welcome to Mortis Vision with the Mortises. This is episode 432. Episode 64 of Double Double, if you're keeping count. And this is, once again, Mortis Vision with Mortis. I am Greg Amortis, along with my wife. The Twisted Temptress. What's up, love? I was watching Little House on the Prairie for some reason.

Don't know why. I don't know why. Oh, King and Queens. That's what we're watching. We always watch King and Queens. It's like our comfort food. I don't know why. We've watched the same episodes. 3,000 times, right? That's so funny. I can watch a freaking movie and 10 minutes into it, I'm snoring. I'm like completely out. You put an episode of King and Queens on and I can watch it for 24 hours straight and not even blink. And this is why, everyone, you know why I was playing it. Why is that? Why?

That show, I don't know, maybe it's Kevin James, maybe whatever, but the fucking show makes me laugh. Because you know that a certain part that's coming up is going to make you laugh and you want to be there to laugh about it. Here's the thing, I'm such a nerd about that show. that I found a podcast out there that literally just took the audio of each episode. And you can just play the audio of the episode, right?

So I was telling this guy at work, I was like, hey, man, I love King of Queens. I watch it every day. And I looked, I was like, oh, shoot, man, check out this podcast. So he's like, what is it? I said, I don't know, I'm going to listen to it. So I listened to like 20 minutes of it. I'm like, dude, it's the exact episode.

And he's like, you're going to listen to that? Why? I said, because I've already seen it. So I vision it. So I'm listening to it and I'm visioning every bit of it. So I'm sitting here laughing my ass off at work. So I'm like. Dude. Anyways, I'm such a geek. But that has nothing to do with horror. That has nothing to do with shit except that we love King and Queens. But we're excited tonight, Pearl. We've got a special guest tonight.

We do. We got family on. We do have family, and we got to welcome in one of our greatest friends. This gentleman is such an amazing sweetheart of talent, and we have... Been so thrilled to know that he was going to be on the show with us and he'll be on the regular show soon too. But let's go ahead and welcome in none other than Mr. Chris Bartoli. What's up, Chris?

hey guys how you doing this is very very exciting i'm very thrilled i'm super excited man you know it's like we we have our anthony the shop master general but we miss having that boston accent and anthony's the only one we got that really has that accent

until you come in and now we've got chris martoli and i love the accent bro not trying to i'm not slandering you in any way because you know i've got one of the worst accents of anybody but dude i'll talk bro i'm serious and i appreciate it very much it's funny like it seems like uh the last few episodes i haven't called in i've been calling a little bit more sporadically it's just the way

things have been going on, but a few episodes, it's like Anthony out. And then I would be like the next call. I think like three episodes in a row. It's like, I messaged him. I go, you know, every time you're on, I'm like the next call, like right after it's weird, but it works perfectly that way. And it's funny because we have not heard from Buffalo Paul recently. Buffalo Paul, give us a call. Because Buffalo Paul has that same, you know, the northern New York accent that I love. Yes. Yep.

I don't know what it is. I just love to hear you gentlemen talk. But anyways, that's the here there. We're here to talk this tonight, and we're super excited to have you on. You're such a great friend. And we text, you know, periodically, man. You'll shoot me up or I'll shoot you up, man. And, you know, what's up?

up miles say what's up you know it's fun to have friends like that that you can kind of communicate with when you're just either to shoot the breeze or you got an idea to pop off in head or or something right and i'm just sitting in the middle watching the shooting going on i know right oh yeah

it's nice to finally get to actually talk to you, talk to you. Cause I hear you all the time. And we, like you said, we've been texting, but to actually talk to you was like, like I said, the first couple of seconds, I'm like, Oh my God, this is real. Right. That's cool, man. I love it. And we're super excited to have you on.

again and uh what we're doing tonight listeners is we're going to be looking at a i guess you would call it made for tv this was certainly made for hulu originally and i think it ended up going to amazon prime for season two But we're looking at a TV series called Into the Dark. And Chris, you came up with an idea. So what I want to do is head over to you for a couple minutes and have you let the listeners know why you chose this and a little bit of history about Into the Dark.

don't mind there yeah let me tell you that first like just a little bit about the series itself it's a it's a horror anthology tv series and like i say it was on hulu it was actually on hulu for two seasons nice and um yep and basically it's just standalone feature-length episodes of movies one was released each month each installment was based around a different holiday during the month of its release so it's kind of had that

You know, it was kind of nice. And like I said, it lasted for two seasons. Each season had 12 films. So there was 24 movies in all. And it was produced by the television branch of Blumhouse Productions. And Jason Blum, executive, produced. every episode and i think

Like I had seen when it went to Amazon Prime, it had actually a different title, but it's pretty much, I think, the same thing. And so I think they, yeah, they came out in 2018 in October. And I remember watching a few here and there, and I didn't watch... not even half of them overall but i'd watched a few here and then i i remember enjoying them and then uh when it came up for like a possible show topic i'm like wow this should probably be a good one because i know it had never been

you guys hadn't reviewed it you know it was just uh it had all the parameters it was tv so i'm like yeah why not go with this and it gave me a chance to watch a few more of the movies so That's awesome. And I was reading up on some of it because I've not watched what went over to Amazon Prime, but it was called Welcome to the Blumhouse. And let me say this up front. I'm a big fan of Blumhouse. I really am. And even to the point I know, Pearl, you bought me a book.

Something about Jason Blum, which has some stories in it, which is kind of cool. I need to pull that back out. Big fan of theirs. Not everything about Blumhouse is a hit. Don't get me wrong. There are some stinkers in there for sure. But as a whole... hole if I was to put Jason Blum and the stuff that he's produced, which is a gazillion, literally probably a gazillion different projects. As a whole, I'm a positive. I'm probably 72% on everything he's done.

he gold on everything no but i think mostly what he comes up with is allowing individuals to you know produce direct right a story and most of the time these are independent people that maybe not have the the ability of their avenue to maybe go to hollywood and put something out correct so basically the jason would fork the money out and say hey under the bloom house

label or under the Blumhouse umbrella will allow you to put this out. And of course, I'll make a percentage of it, have nothing wrong with that. And it's given a lot of people...

an ability to make a film that they never would have been able to do. Right, Pearl? Yeah. And I appreciate that out of them. So I wish there was other... companies that would do that because you know in the world of cinema you know pull back the curtains if you're not in Hollywood you're kind of shunned of course in in society so it's kind of like if you're not a lister then you become a z-lister and

The Z-listers is where we're at. We love Z-listers, or at least I do. I typically don't go necessarily to Hollywood to find a lot of movies. I like to see more independent films. Yep, I agree completely on that one. I think because... Hollywood always has the, you know, they're not going to do certain things that we want to see. Like the independents will take more chances. Hollywood won't. They're going to do what they think is just going to make money.

As horror fans, sometimes that's not really what we're looking at. Exactly. It's that cookie cutter that people talk about. It's a cookie cutter film. I'm not saying Hollywood hasn't put out stuff. I'm not saying that. They do have some things. But it's typically a cookie cutter.

cookie cutter, boom, here it is by the platform. Because most people in Hollywood, you know, want to be in the click. They want to get an Academy Award. You know, they want to do the things by the book. We're independent. We'll take a little more leeway and say, we'll do this, right? And that's what I like. And Blumhouse certainly has went some of the avenues of Hollywood, but at the same token, you know, they've given us some good stories. And what we got here is...

Two seasons, as you mentioned, of some really interesting, basically full-featured films around holidays, which is awesome. And when we went to go do research for this, it was funny because Pearl and I... I pulled it up, and I looked at the list, and I saw that most of them had been watched. I'm like, hmm.

I don't remember watching, but maybe a couple of these. I know Pearl's already watched like every one of these sometime in the past. Oh, nice. Yeah, it was funny because every one of them had like all the way down to like three minutes left in the movie. And that's the credits. So Pearl, you're like the X.

expert on this show then, pretty much. That's good. Well, I wouldn't say expert. Not me forgetting everything right now. It's okay. But it was funny. Was this the one we watched and then it kicked us out?

Was this the one? No, that was Midnight Mass. Oh, yeah, Midnight Mass. What a... punk show that was for us to try to watch luckily it worked out that was our last episode if you haven't listened to it definitely check it out it was fun yeah yeah cool thank you because it was really fun because we we watched the first episode and then we went to go and watch episode two and it was gone it was like

This does not exist. I'm like, it's on Netflix. Yes, it does. We had to come back two days later. We're panicking because we've got to get them all watched. Then all of a sudden, they pop back up.

way to sweat it out netflix yeah that could have been a disaster right oh yeah let's go to imdb what is the gist of this thing but no hulu here was really fun and and hulu has some really interesting uh movie slash shows on there and of course you can get it bundled with disney plus and all that and uh we'll probably end up doing away with hulu soon because we're trying to cut costs and hulu will probably be one of them unfortunately

Yeah, that's why I watched everything. But anyway, so while we had it, I'm glad you chose this so we could check them out. Oh, that's cool. That's great. Yeah, because I knew you had it because you had talked about... What was the... Shit, I can't remember the show. It was... like about a year ago over a year ago it was when um

Oh, God, it takes place in the 70s. That woman, she killed her neighbor. She was having an affair. Oh, yeah. I can't remember the name of it now. Yeah, that's the show with Jennifer Bills in it with the religious. But anyways, I remember you would.

talked about that so i'm like okay so i'm pretty sure they had hulu because they talked about that so yeah that was the one where she was like a serial killer and everything yeah i got you yeah that one you remember she she was dressed with the curly hair and the glasses and it was around the religious candy candy

There you go. That's it, yeah. So, yeah, that was fun. But what I liked about this one and why you chose it, too, is because a lot of these are some directors that we knew. Particularly, we have chosen four to review tonight, listeners. So, to let you know up front, these are four.

spoiler so there will be some spoiling going on so if you do not like your shows to be spoiled first I know there's some of you do if you have Hulu go ahead and watch these first they're typically around an hour and 20 hour and a half uh whatever there so go ahead and watch them then come back and listen to us break them down if you don't

mind some spoilers and just listen to us but either way uh we will spoil these but one thing that i did appreciate out of these not only that they were around holidays uh some halloween some thanksgiving there's some christmas there's a lot of different holidays in here where some of the directors that were attached to this. And the one that I chose, which we'll get to, there's a reason behind the reason I picked that one was because of the director's soul.

I didn't really know much about the show, even though I think we'd watched it in the past, but it's because I attached to that director, and I'll get to that when we talk about it. But we got such directors as Paul Davis, Patrick Lussier, Nacho Vigo. Orlando, which I had no clue who that was. Sophia Tackle. Some of these I don't recognize. Daniel Stam, James Roday, Adam Mason, Chelsea Stardust. Man, that's such a cool name because I think it's Ziggy Stardust.

Yep. I've got to like some David Bowling. You got... Gigi Sol Guerrero, Mike Gaughan, Hannah McPherson, that was season one, season two. We got Paul Davis again, Marcus Dunstan, Charles Hood, Carter Smith, Maggie Levin, Brandon Zook. Alejandro Bruguas, I think is how you say it, Emma Tammy, and you got Tyler McIntyre, Julius Ramsey.

Clara Arnovich, Emma, Tammy, once again, she's got a couple in there. Interesting. So that is the list of directors attached to this, along with some writers and different things, which I think is kind of cool. So I think what we're...

going to do uh listeners we're going to uh go to chris first to do his first and then we're going to head to pearl to do hers i'm gonna do one and then chris has chosen a fourth one which we'll go to him at the end of the episode and uh we'll kind of wrap up that way so let's go ahead and just send us

right over are you ready pearl i'm ready you ready chris this is like a prize fight dude i'm ready let's go let's get ready to rumble oh yeah all right so i chose the body and it takes place around halloween and this was the first

It was actually the first movie that they put out for this. And basically, synopsis, a professional hitman transports his latest victim in plain sight, assuming that Halloween... revelers will think that the body is part of an elaborate costume on his way to dispose of the corpse however the killer becomes involved with some admirers and as you can

tell things just kind of get way out of whack once that happens so let's break this down i gotta say i i really enjoyed this one specifically the the third act in this one I think because of the kills in this one, but go ahead and take away what, what, what happened in this and you can break it scene by scene or however you want to do it. And we'll, we'll talk about how you want to. Okay. Well, it's, it's, that's all with this hit man. I think his name is Wilkes.

So basically you see him in this, you know, pretty nice apartment. I believe it's in Hollywood, right? Because I think it's just like South Hollywood. And there's a dead... body on the on the ground and he's about to eat this really gross food it was it called kazumazu which has like maggots and cheese or whatever so you know he's got like some type of you know he's pretty That's the word I'm looking for. He's got some class for a hitman, I guess. He's very eccentric.

yeah this exactly and so then he gets a phone call from his boss so i guess he really doesn't know who he is they don't know each other but and he goes okay it's done dispose the body i know you have your own way of doing things just make sure it gets to the certain spot at what is it 2 a.m or whatever time he's got like two hours i think to do it and so what happens is he basically just wraps up

the corpse in like this cellophane just keeps wrapping it so it almost looks like a mummy and he basically drags it out of the building some people are walking by they look at him He kind of freezes for a second. They're like, oh, man, nice costume. And they go on their way. So he's like, all right, well, I guess I got this down.

And so, of course, then he goes out to his car, but because it's Halloween, people are doing pranks. And let's face it, these pranks are pretty serious. I mean, these are all felonies, but they like splash all the tires in the cars, eggs, spray paint, this, that. I've never seen Halloween.

pranks go that crazy before but i guess there it is so of course now he can't transport and then he what bumps into some young people that are going to a party they're like come on we'll give you a ride blah blah blah next thing you know

He takes a ride with these people. They think it's this great costume. They're going to go to this elaborate Halloween party where their friend Jack is hosting. And the funny thing is, at the Halloween party, some of the costumes there were way better than what... wilks looked like so i think they were just going by the body he's dragging because

Oh, he was in a suit with a little blood on his cheek. But having that little prop, I guess, was pretty good. There were some good kills throughout. One of the partygoers, Nick, gets the knife. thrown right through the head. Oh, that was brutal. The cop gets his throat slit, you know. You got, at the end, the guy, was it Jack? With the...

Wilkes puts the fingers through his eyes. That's got to be the grossest way. I've seen that in a few movies, and that's one that'll make me... you know just kind of bite your lip a little bit like because it looks pretty real yeah but and then he finds like when he's at the party and they kind of discover what's going on and so now the weird thing is now you get these three you know well, they may be in their 20s, dragging this body through California, because why, I don't know.

I would have just left it there and said, get me the hell out of here. But they're dragging it around. They want to dispose of the body. I'm like, why are they going through all this trouble? Just leave it anywhere. Throw it in a trash can and get out. They would never be linked to it. But I guess then the movie would have ended kind of quick. And so there was a good amount of humor throughout, too. But then when the hitman Wilkes meets Maggie...

She seems like this kind of sophisticated hacker or whatever, but she's totally enthralled with this whole murder thing. really likes him you can tell she wants to be part of a team with him it's almost like she had been missing something in her life and maybe being a hit woman or a serial killer might be the thing that'll make her feel whole i have no idea but she's helping him out and just the when the way it ended with her the first time i mean my heart was broken for her

it really was yeah you know they i mean i'm kind of jumping all over the place so if you can reel me in if you want i know i'm missing a lot of things but when i'm you know they start kissing and you tell she really likes this guy and then when he stabs her yeah if i felt i was heartbroken for this poor girl even though she's like gonna be leading a life of just mayhem

You still feel bad because the look in her eyes, she was like devastated, you know? And it was, what's her name? Rebecca Rittenhouse? Yes. Was the actress that played Maggie. And so I thought she did a good job too. She really did. And she was a character that I kind of gravitated to anyway. She's dressed like Marie Antoinette in the movies. And she was fun. Like you said, she was totally attached to him immediately.

and you're like figuring this girl like what's going on with this girl like she's got a screw loose somewhere and she was the most likable yes that's the crazy part i wouldn't if i'm gonna hang out with any of these people i would have hung out with her oh yeah probably just you know yeah

Other than Ray Santiago's character because, you know, he's the one putting the party on, right? Oh, yeah. But I know him from Meet the Fockers, so I'm looking at him and I'm like, I know you! I know you! Oh, yeah, that's right. I forgot he was in that, too. That's right. I've seen that later. He was supposed to be Ben Stiller's son in the movie, Meet the Fockers, you know, because he looks just like Ben Stiller. Right, right. Okay. Yeah, he kind of did, didn't he? Yeah. Oh, yeah.

But his demise, he's the one with the eyes, which was brutal. But the one you're talking about, Jack, that got the knife in the head. And I think he's the one that also got the pump thing in his heart. that was nick i'm sorry the one that had the thing through the heart and then the knife through the head which is no that was um oh god what the heck was his name it was the last character that was alive uh

It was Alan Morgan Adams from Boston. Yeah, there you go. He kept saying that. I'm like, okay. I'm like, what is this? they go dude you keep name dropping your name everywhere of course everybody's gonna know who you are because they're trying to figure out they're gonna be framed and stuff like that i mean the bickering was funny that they did like i said there was enough humor in this where it wasn't

full-out comedy but just enough humor where you like laugh a little bit and then you get some nice brutal kills in there and you know yeah i love i love tom bateman as the main character the hitman pearl he was kind of that uh Like you said, he's very eccentric, very distinguished. I think he was trying to be like a John Wick. He doesn't speak, but he just does. And he can kill you in so many quick ways. He is...

What I would consider to be the hitman of hitman like if you want something done you would call him If you need a big job and you need it done at a certain time, and we know because, and I don't want to steal any thunder from you, but I do know in one of the scenes, the guy that he has to call, the guy that calls him and says, hey, I need you to deliver us at two.

AM even makes a statement about him saying, you know, we want you to deliver this and don't do like you normally do like have fun or whatever you're right because we know right evidently he does these weird things right so yes yep exactly no need to do all that just make the make a statement and he makes a statement he certainly does well you know that one part that i like

Like, with Wilkes and Jack. Pushes him, and he, like, will try to catch his bluff. And he's like, well, go ahead, do what you want. He's like, he thinks it's a prop. And he jumps and stumps on his face. And all of a sudden, you hear...

Yeah. So it's like, oh, crap. He just killed the guy. And he's like, oh, he's dead now. Well, the fact that they did that whole blood thing, too, where his face is instantly... But it's like, how would you not be dead anyway? Well, yeah, there's no way that he's living through that. I mean, there's no... He's... got no air he was at least stabbed twice right so that was i thought maybe it was just like a weird spasm going on or or we don't know this and we still don't know this

But maybe he was not quite human. Did you think of that? Maybe he was vampiric or maybe he was something. We don't know. They didn't say it other than the fact that they wanted him dead and they needed a statement. And this guy lived through a lot of different scenarios with the full rap. Maybe this guy was not fully human. If he wasn't, then he should be able to get out of that rap. Maybe. And he was somebody very famous because they kept saying, Hey, is that...

Of course, I never say the name, but it's someone famous on social media who has a million followers or something like that. Hey, that's... Yes, it is. Yes, yes. A lot of fun, man. And the fact that this is the first... one and it's halloween is just so great to start out with something fun uh that twist at the end too man i didn't see it coming no meaning that when he was shot i thought it was the uh the guy that was hiring him

I thought that was the last one that we're just going to get rid of him. That's what you're talking about, right? The shot? Yes. When he gets shot at the end. Yeah, that's... And then when they showed her, I'm like, wow. And so she's going to like take up the helm or something. Right. Yeah. And they even give you that kind of mention because she even picks up the phone and says something. Like, I'm like, dude, did she just become the hit man?

It was weird. Remember when she was in the bathroom and she's looking in the mirror and she's talking to me, what am I doing? Is this weird? And she says, well, you don't meet guys like this every day. He can handle you. And then she says, timing's a bit off but that's okay i'm like so i'm thinking to myself

it seemed like they were trying to go somewhere with that and they just never went anywhere i'm like maybe she's somehow involved or something like she was a killer because when she said timing's a bit off but that's okay i didn't know what really what she meant by that they really never described it but No, they didn't. They didn't really go there. I feel like maybe there is something with her character. Maybe she was secretly training or something. I don't know. Maybe.

Oh, and then I have one little trivia. I don't know if you guys know. And this is just because I read it. But then I went back and looked. Remember when Wilkes is in the bathroom in that bar and somebody opens the door, looks at him, and he holds up the knife and the guy leaves? Yeah. That's John Landis.

I saw that. Then I went back to watch it. Yep, that's definitely him. Yeah, I totally caught it. I even mentioned to Pearl when it first happened. I was like, dude, there's John Landis. What is he doing here? Yeah, I didn't pick it up. I had no idea. I'll look back. That was kind of cool. A little cameo. A little cameo, yeah. Hey, if you're going to name drop somebody, who better than John Landis, right? Yeah, sure.

You know, give a little clout to it. I'm surprised John did it. And then again, no, I'm not. Yeah, I know, right? Maybe he knows Jason Blum or something. Oh, yeah, I'm sure, yeah.

Yeah, no doubt. Man, I'm telling you, I will say the cinematography in all of these are really good. But typically in the Blumhouse films, they are. Like, they have a... uh most have a certain look and it looked really good chris for sure and the kills are really gory and great i love the kills especially like i said the third act is where for me the the

I'm going to call it a movie or whatever you want to call it, a TV show. It's 80-some minutes long, so it's basically a movie. But for me, it was that third act that really just brought this home and said, Yeah, I really like this one. Yeah, me too, absolutely. Because it dragged a little bit in the middle.

but it's it had enough going on i get where it was interesting enough but you're right it's like once they get to the cemetery pretty much right yeah once they get to the cemetery it really it amped up pretty good absolutely uh what else you got on this one um the only thing other thing i thought was kind of weird was when you know the girl dot with dorothy yes when um when uh wilkes kills the security guard at the um funeral home before she runs in she grabs his gun

and goes in and then she shuts the door and the door isn't solid there's those little holes and Wilkes comes up and shows that he has the keys I mean why didn't she just put the gun up to the thing and shoot him right there because she had the gun I mean that would have Again, but, you know, I guess to have the movie go on, they can't be too sensible. That's right. That's right.

And then it ricochets off that little metal. I thought it was classic. I'm like, dude. And I loved when he looks at it and goes, huh like that was perfect it was perfect because it caught him by surprise like this guy's probably murdered i would say several people this wasn't his first murder right he's killed many people And the fact that that was the one that really catches you by surprise is like, hmm. Exactly.

Exactly. It kind of makes you think like Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger moment on True Life. Remember when she drops the gun and is going down shooting everyone and he looks at her like, you? The cheese in this is... it casu marzu casu marzu and it's a real sardinian Cheese. Listen to this, listeners. Listen to this. If you haven't watched it, you don't know what we're talking about. I'm going to describe it for you. A real Sardinian cheese containing live insect larvae.

aka maggots, which supposedly give it a special taste. This traditional cheese has been granted an exception from the usual hygienic procedures required for blood for food preparation in modern times. It basically... It's full inside of these larva maggots is what I call them. They're maggots. You can call them whatever you want. They're maggots. And you eat the maggots with the cheese.

And I'm sitting here watching this guy put these, and I hope to goodness it was just rice and they did a little CGI. Because, bro, when I saw him put that in his mouth, I was about ready to gag. I'm like, dude, there is no way. a maggot's hitting this mouth no i don't care i'm sorry go pro oh no i was just gonna say i don't care how good the cheese is you're not i'm not putting that in my no no

No, Swiss cheese, American cheese, cheddar cheese. I'm good. Gorgonzola. I'll have some Gorgonzola, but I'm good. There will be none of this Caso Marzullo, whatever it's called. Screw that, my friend. So overall, man, what did you think of this one if you was to rate it from a 1 to 10? I would give it somewhere between a 7.5 and an 8. I did like this one a lot. Yeah, I'm going to say an 8 because I gave it a 4 out of 5 on Letterboxd.

pretty much where I would be. It was at 8. I thought it was really good. I enjoyed this one a lot. I didn't realize they had them on Letterboxd individually. Yeah, I actually just put in the body. Of course, there's a few movies called The Body, so you just kind of match up the poster and the date. It's on there, so yeah. Yeah, aired October 5th, 2018. An hour and 23 minutes. Like, seriously, like, these are basically full-length movies, man.

yep and what's nice they're kind of like on the shorter side there's not like you know an hour 50 two hours at least the ones i was looking at so someone hour and a half or under i mean that's perfect you know in album yeah good movie and move on to the next you know yeah super super fun cast in this one for sure and and we i don't know if you caught this and some of you may not know but uh i'll throw

her name out, Sasha Gray, was the party DJ. Oh, yeah. I did see that. I'm not sure who that is. I don't think I know her, though. I looked her up, but I know she did adult films. Yeah.

Other than that, but she did some muscle, but I just didn't recognize her. Yeah, she was in a movie called Smash Cut with David Hess. It was one of David Hess' last films before he passed away. It's a really fun movie to watch. But it's funny because she... uh was an adult actress and in smash cut she's one of the few that does not get topless

oh you know what i think you guys have talked about that yeah you might have at some point because i remember just what you just said like i don't know where it came it might have come up just like not even talking about the movie but just maybe it came up as like a side sometimes you

You know, we go on like, you know, little rabbit holes and this and that and I do remember saying this I had to be that movie. Yeah, yeah, it's funny though out of anybody that might be somewhat comfortable being undressed on camera you know she's fully dressed which i thought was fun i thought that was really cool and she doesn't like you know what i've been there done that i'm done yeah i'm done and the voice of the guy on the phone who was it

Oh, shoot. I knew it, too, and I forgot. Ah, guys. You don't have to say it. I can't remember. Alex Winter from none other than... Bill and Ted's excellent adventures and bogus adventures. That's right. How cool is that? Don't you think that it is a little clever, though? Alex Winter, Lost Boys. It's only maggots, Greg. It's only maggots. Oh my God, that's right. There's the connection. Of course she would come up with that. Nobody in the world has come up with that except Pearl.

And then when she says it, it makes all the sense in the world. It's the weirdest thing. Oh, and I'll just say my buddy Marv. He's a very independent actor. I've known him for several years, but I just saw that he was uncredited in this as Party Coke Dude, Marv Blovelt.

And he's actually in a group. He doesn't comment any over there, but he has been in the group for many, many, many years over in Land of the Creeks. But Marv Blovelt had a part in this, so that's pretty awesome. Oh, no kidding. Yeah, sweet. Nice. All right, cool. I'll have to message him up and say, hey, seen you in there. I'll have to go back and watch it. He's the party coke dude. So it's going to be a...

At the beginning of the party. Yeah, it's definitely going to be at the party, and it's definitely going to be a flash scene, but still, regardless, it's Marv. Awesome. Wow, no kidding. All right, well, sweet. That is the body from Chris. Great job, brother. Oh, thanks, man. This was a fun episode.

Definitely check it out, listeners. It was Season 1, Episode 1 if you're on Hulu. And we're going to send this over to Pearl now because, yeah. Oh, boy. We're going to see what she chose and why she chose what she chose. Why I chose this one? Very simple. It had a puppy in it. A doggy. Of course it had one in it. And Judy Greer. How can you not? And then Steve Guttenberg. Yes. Judy's such a sweetheart. by the way right um this one's directed by tyler

McIntyre in season two, episode nine, and it is called Good Boy. So as I said, it has Judy Greer, Ethan Raine, Stephen Guttenberg, Ellen Wong. Eliza Neal, and even Maria Concetta Alonso. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Okay, okay. And Chico the dog. Thank you for putting Chico the dog in their love. Chico deserved his... Well, of course. He's the main... One of the main... Oh, yeah. How can you not give credit to the main star of the movie? Right?

Good point, love. And this was called Good Boy. The synopsis is a woman fed up with dating decides to get an emotional support dog to help with her anxiety. When she takes the dog home... People who are mean to her start turning up dead. And see, again, this is why I chose this one. Because I want a doggie like that. What? Well, wait a minute. Hear me out. Okay, I'm listening. You know, there are some people who are mean. There are some people who just maybe deserve a little bite.

What? Oh, boy. Okay, you know what? I do know what. I know if I aggravate you, I'm dead, so that's not good. No, no. She had a partner in the movie, so see? You're fine. Just... Don't tell it no, but you're fine. But not to steal the thunder. We know what happens to him at the end of the movie, too. Well... Just don't make her anxious. There you go. You are Gregor Mortis. I mean, hello. I do aggravate a lot of people, so I'm screwed in this one. Go ahead, love. I'm sorry. Alrighty.

Damn it. Why are you trying to kill me all? No, I'm just trying to see if Jason Blumhouse will give me a story. The demise of Gregor Morris. Well, what is it? What's it called? Rigor Mortis? Well, that's why I do have Gregor Mortis in Rigor Mortis. There you go. Exactly. Will you let me do this? I'm trying. I'm sorry. Get to it, love. I'm sorry. I'm shutting up now. Mute Greg's mic now. I know.

Oh, I like that. Mute. Mute, mute. Mute, mute. She's over here clicking a button. Here, you want me to mute me? No, I can't. If I mute me, it'll mute you. Sorry, I got a huge imagination. I go with it, okay? Anywho. Okay. Maggie, 39 years old. She's alone. She's a journalist. And she works at a coffee barista. You know what? The one good thing about this, too, she lives in an apartment in Reseda. This apartment is the exact same apartment from the Karate Kid, and she even mentions that.

And I thought I got a kick out of that. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I did not catch that until you just said it. No, me neither. Good catch. Yeah. Anywho. She's, you know, we see her. I heard that. Anywho. You know what? I do know what. Go ahead. What? I just know what. Go ahead. Okay. Oh, goodness. One of those nights. And I lost my plane. No, I got it. No, I did last my place after all. Mute Greg now. Yeah. Muted. This is when the doggy comes in handy. Okay.

We're introduced to obviously Maggie where she's starting some online dating, meets up with one guy, you know. uh it's kind of awkward when you're kind of don't know what to say to the guy other than oh just like your profile says oh just like yes just like the profile oh nice shirt And you know from there it's going nowhere. So, yeah. So, bummer. She starts, you know, walking home. She's like, just goes to bed, gets ready for work. And turns out, at work, her boss, Dawn,

with Steve Gunnberg. He's such an odd particular guy. I mean, really odd. Yes. He's not Mahoney. He's not Mahoney from Police Department for sure. No, he's not. Oh, God, I love... Okay. Okay. I do not know how to describe this guy other than the fact of... You'll get to know him by the fact of how he talks. Like, it's okay. You know, transition. You know, you think about it. You know, it feels good, right? You know, feel your pulse.

Okay, we're not. Don't panic. It'll be fine. But he is her boss. You know, she's a journalist, like I said prior. But he's cutting hours big time. He has the group there. He goes. everyone's going to start to become a freelancer. And she's like, what? You know, 12 years in the business, you know, he's all... It has to be done, you know, even to me, you know, blah, blah, blah. And he's all, you know, you're here, you're there, you know.

like a baby to an old man and this is his philosophy how and he goes feel your pulse let's let's you know the whole woosah thing and it's like god this guy's nuts but oh yeah he's basically putting the screws to them and just trying to

find any silver lining he can like this isn't bad yeah you know it's like oh yeah he was a jerk and in the process he thinks because he knows maggie has anxiety he tells her you know what he thought this would be good you'll be home you'll be alone but you know what why not go and you know because you don't have kids you don't have a baby like a family like me and she's like well i want one you know she's like i've been trying for that he thought why not

go adopt a dog you know an emotional support dog he saw you know you can pet it whenever you want and she screams like i know how dogs work so so he's like he's like oh okay he saw I got some mints. I got weed mints. And she's like, really? She thought, weed? He thought, no, they're good. He thought, I'm allergic to dogs, so it's like, no, I need these. He thought, why don't you try them? Like, so super fast. And he's like,

Already hooked on these mints. He's still popping them while he's talking to her. That's why he is the way he is. Yeah. He's constantly high. He is on weed mints. Very high. thinks about it so she decides yeah okay fine you know next day she goes she decides to go animal shelter every dog she's trying to touch she's either barking at her or almost takes a snap at her and and she's like then suddenly she sees

This one particular dog who looks up at her and like doesn't snap at her, doesn't anything. And she even asks the guy, what's his name? He's all 82733. And she's like, looks at him like, what? So he likes her. He shows that he wants to go home with her. So it's like she picks him. She decides to take him home. You know, she's making herself a sandwich.

You know, a Reuben sandwich. And she's like, oh, like now the dog's paying attention to her because prior it wasn't. It wasn't even playing with the squeaky toy or nothing. But now that she has food, all eyes on her.

And while she turns around to get him some food, he's on the counter with half of her leftover sandwich that whatever Kyuri ate the rest of it. She's looking at him and she's like... put it down put it down and he and he will not put it down then like purposely this is why i want the dog because he's sassy he like gobbles up that last piece right in front of her face like, nope, nope, mine. It's literally hanging down his mouth and she's like, put it down!

And he does. Down the throat. She's all, you little shit. You ate my Reuben sandwich. And then all of a sudden she's like, hmm. She calls him Ruben. She starts calling him Ruben. The whole light bulb above her. Oh, you're Ruben.

I mean, so we have all these little fast forward tidbits, you know, where like he's running around the house, he's making a mess, he's getting into like stuff. I mean, you constantly see like... a bloody face on him because he's either getting into the raspberries or he's getting into something he's running around with the toilet paper toilet paper plays off later she has a landlady too that comes that comes and she's

a really pain in the ass she's one of those that you know will keep charging you rent by yeah i think it was like bay bay or bay or something yeah yeah Yeah. And yeah, like she said, no, I'm not raising the rent. I'm just charging you 80 bucks for a parking fee. She's like, well, that's basically raising the rent. No, no, it's not. It's like, okay. Yeah, something different. Totally. Yeah. Like that little fight between them back and forth. She's like, no.

She said, that sounds like you're trying to do above the rent control. She said, no, no, no. She said, 100 would be yes. She said, 1,000, yes. 90, it's 90. She said, yeah. But, you know, she's like, I'll read it later, blah, blah, blah. I mean, that was like the beginning part. Like, she hasn't yet noticed a dog until she comes. She actually went to Vegas. She goes for a week.

to Vegas when she comes back she's out there doing the gardening and here she comes um Maggie with a dog you know and she's looking like where did you get that and she's like He's an emotional support dog. She's all, nothing wrong with you. You're not blind. And she's like, no.

I didn't say he was a service dog. I said he's an emotional support dog. And she's like, no, you don't need it. And, of course, she's like, your garden's ugly. You know, she's like, they're all going back and forth with each other. But she's going to her apartment, and here comes a little...

landlady following her up there and she instantly peeks her head and she looks at the door she goes i'm gonna replace that because there's scratches on the door and you know she's like no she's all you're gonna have to move on she's like no pleading back and forth saying like you know get a crate well she does get a crate for him and reuben didn't like the way that his new mom was being talked to and in fact he also doesn't like to be confined he didn't like his crate either

So when she has to go to work and she puts him in the crate, well, Reuben decides he's going to get out of the crate, get out of the house, through some screen window. And he finds his way to... the landlady's uh apartment downstairs and all all you see is like her saying what are you doing here it's late

Maggie comes home from work calling him and wondering where he's at. He's under the sofa and that's when she kind of finds like he's super strong because he's pulling on a rope thing. But he also has like... redness on this you know but there's also a mess in the kitchen so she's like oh you got into the raspberries how'd you how'd you do all this morning she has to take the the check

And give it to the landlady for the $90 before she forgets. And no answer, no nothing. She goes, and the door's open. She's looking around wondering, why is there a mess? Like, there's even the familiar toilet paper roll on the floor. She goes in the bathroom and bam, sees like... half-eaten landlady there and then like next to her hand where she's laying was a whole big pile of shit that the dog left behind.

So she knew, like, okay, did you do this? And the dog looking all innocent, like... With a finger in the shit. Yeah. And it's the smallest dog. And it's like a toy. It's like the smallest dog. Like, there's no way.

but you see the whole time like you see like that he's always dirty but you never see like how you're wondering how the hell is he doing this like you know you know cleans up the mess oddly you know she's like okay you know she don't want her dog getting in trouble or her does everything the same goes to work you know um she's ends up going on a date

with some young guy who is house sitting and acting like it's his place you know he wants you know obviously all he wants to do is get laid and she's like You know, give me a minute here, and I go to the bathroom. She sees a lot of condoms in the trash, thinks it's gross. That's right. That's right.

He's like, yeah, didn't you see on my profile I show houses? Yeah. This isn't your house? That's right. He says, I love dogs, but he's yelling at her dogs. Yeah, because he jumps on the sofa and he's like, get up! So she thinks that he did on purpose when she gets out of the bathroom. The door's wide open. Well, the door's not wide open. It's just the dog decides.

to follow the guy who went outside to talk on his phone and swiping the next you know whoever he's gonna date again all of a sudden you hear like before actually before a little rewind back before she gets out of the bathroom you hear a big crash and i'm surprised she didn't hear that but when she does go out and he she sees the door open she goes hey asshole you left my dog out and you know she's looking for him calling him

And she finds him again with red all over his face. Well, how did he get red all over his face this time? There are no raspberries, no nothing. But then you see a ran over body, which I guess a neighbor said, I asked them to put lights up there, you know. So he kind of got away with it until like, and you know, she even wrote a story, you know, on her first.

freelance and you know her boss says oh you're gonna get a good check for this and blah blah blah so she's all happy and yet you know the autopsy says He got ran over, but he also looked like he was mauled, you know, by an animal. So, like, you know, she kind of, again, looked at Ruben and decided to be like, you know what? Something's going on. Well...

That same night, a police officer, well, we didn't know he was a police officer then, but Nate, he comes in and he wants a copy. She gives him a copy. He writes his number in the back and, you know. Next morning, the niece of the landlady comes and they want to figure out where she's been because they haven't heard from her.

the cop that comes up with her ends up being nate and she's like oh wow you know yeah i was gonna call you but you know and yada yada and then you know they're investigating she's still in the clear but you know she does start dating you know nate they do have dinners together and it's going well she doesn't want to spend the night because of the fact that she don't want to leave the dog behind doesn't trust him either.

So on one of those occasions, he decides, you know, to get her a puppy cam. So he does, and he installs it there so she can spend the night. And, you know, she's looking through the, every now and then, like 2 a.m., 3 a.m., and she's... Looking at the puppy cam, he's nice asleep. She feels good about it. She's okay. The way things are going, it's like she gets there in the morning and everything's torn apart, like in a place.

you know they're still investigating the murders she's wondering what's going on and i mean this is how it continues pretty much throughout the rest of time anyone who gets mad at her You know, she gets a check in the mail and she's like, what the fuck? And it's because Dawn decides to only give her $250.

dollars wasn't the big check she was expecting because she was on fertility pills and and shots and she needs to pay them he went to go see Went to go see him and then Don and said like, you know, you're cheating me because like, you know, where's the check? where's the bonus and he thought well bonus is overstated blah blah blah try and get out of it of course and the dog's watching her getting mad and looking at him back and forth to this point though

Maggie's okay with what Ruben does because she sees when she storms out of there, the dog's not with her and she's like, shit. So when she turns around and looks up at the window, all you see is a big splatter. blood and and dongle down so she she knows like okay he did something and this is the first time she tells him Good boy, Ruben. Yep. Forgetting the boss. Now investigations are even more. Things are going on.

You know, she's back at her apartment, but her friend is over. You know, they're talking. She's making dinner for tonight. But... There's little fingerprints and evidence and stuff going on that, you know, Nate calls her and he's like, you know, forget about dinner tonight at the moment. Tell me, were you there? Do you have anything? Do you know anything? She kept saying no.

helping the conversation but at the same time it was also getting heated a little bit between them that Ruben again doesn't like that and he ended up like getting the girl I believe her name was Annie he ended up getting her and this is the first time when you see Ruben change

You see his back widen and open up. You see... Honestly, I thought maybe he was a little werewolf or something. They don't fully 100% give you all the details, but you see, like... her gaining mold underneath and you know maggie's trying to pull her out from under the bed you see all this blood everywhere like the way it is she i mean

Once she pulls her out, she's already dead, but her nose is missing. Ruben comes out, and he has her nose on his mouth, and she's like, drop it, and once again, he just swallows it, eats it.

But she's trying to like, you know, she cleans everything up. She gets Ruben and she knows that he's going to be in trouble and she can't keep him. And to keep him safe, she drives out in the boonies and leaves him there. And of course... you know when she gets back you know she still continues cleaning she's trying to do things and guess who comes home

You know, Ruben finds his way home. And of course, Nate is over. And he's like, you got to tell me the truth. And she's like, I don't know nothing. He goes, really? He thought that's not what I saw in the puppy cam. She forgot about the puppy cam. But the way everything goes, even Nate goes down. In the end, Maggie doesn't know what to do anymore. Now the cops are there and they're arresting her. She looks like she's out of her knocker already. She looks like she just doesn't know.

you know they probably put her in a loony bin i guess but all you see is reuben back at the animal shelter and someone else coming being like oh i like him he's cute yeah And then the guy goes, yeah, his last owner was some lunatic was killing all these people. They had to put it away or something like that. Yep. That was funny. So overall, I mean, fun episode, right? Or movie.

over the top but fun yeah yeah i think you mentioned like uh pearl mentioned this while we was watching it she said that this was one that you felt was a little different than the three that we chose yeah because I mean, without saying the other two yet, but yeah, because the other ones seem more... story given or like surreal more this one just seemed like it got thrown give a dog a bone thrown in there right over the top getaway um i think one thing pearl and this was

If you want to know the holiday, I thought it would have been Valentine's Day. You know what holiday this one was? No. Pet Appreciation Week. That's what they gave this movie is the Pet Appreciation Week movie. What month was that? I don't even remember. Let's see. That's a good question. I should have looked at that. Hold on. I did. The good boy was on June, June 12th, 2020. Yeah. So I guess, yeah. So there you go. That's pretty cool. The other thing, Pearl, I was looking up was the director.

Tyler. Tyler McIntyre. I was like, who is Tyler McIntyre, right? You know what he directed, Love? It's a Wonderful Knife.

oh god oh no kidding yeah that was just from a couple couple years ago right yeah so he directed that he directed the same segment from vhs 99 called the gawkers uh and that's in the tragedy girls in 2017 and patchwork but anyways i thought it was interesting that he did it's a wonderful knife which pearl and i were not as big on that one as as some were we were kind of a little bit let down on right right yeah but uh i look back on that one and

To back up just a hair to yours, Chris, that you did, The Body, the director of that, I think we know the tie-in to why John Landis was in that. Oh, how come? Because in 2009, he did a documentary called Beware the Moon, Remembering an American Werewolf in London. Oh, yeah. Oh, Paul Davis? Yes. Oh, no kidding. So I think that's our tie-in why John Landis had the cameo in there. Shit, that's pretty cool.

Well, that's the one thing I like about all these series, these movies, they have tie-ins, and I like finding the Easter eggs. Absolutely. So, Pearl, a lot of fun on this one. I didn't know what to expect on this one. Judy Greer... We love Judy Greer. Such an amazing actress. She's fun. She's quirky. Whatever. But you know what the tie-in was for this one as well, right? What was it? Hello. She was the werewolf and cursed. oh oh no kidding okay you know and it's funny too because at one point

When the movie's gone, I'm saying to myself, maybe she's crazy and she's actually doing the murders and thinking it's the dog. It just kind of hit me for a second, but until it took out her friend there and when you saw the thing. growing but then this also had like a little bit of humor throughout it i mean one of the best lines i think she says was how are you doing this you're only 10 pounds That was the scene where he was hiding under the sofa when she came home and she had the little rope.

And then he grabs the rope and she gets slung under the couch. And she's like, and you hear the dog go. Oh yeah. And it is like totally annihilated people. Like the landlady B was just totally gutted. You can see like.

intestines i'm like oh my god this dog is going crazy what did you say he shit out her finger yeah and in fact it was a middle finger or something i think it was and i'm saying so why is she cleaning up all the bodies the worst thing they're gonna do is take the dog away once she got involved now she's screwed right and that's pretty much what happened she should have just let it go like i don't know

Who would have believed that little dog could even do that? I know, right? And I think the other connection, too, was Steve Guttenberg. Because remember in Short Circuit, he was... He wanted to date Stephanie, and she had Johnny number five, but she had all the animals, and then the dog is there. I mean, not the same dog, but the dog lookalike is there. Oh, wow. Yeah, I have not seen Short Circuit in a million years.

Probably since the 80s or whatever came out. I don't even remember. I know the little robot looking thing. It's all input. Do you not think of 13 going on 30? Yes, I like my 13 years. Yeah, but I'm just saying because Judy Greer playing the journalist. The bitchy girl? Yeah, and she's playing the journalist, and then it becomes a... digital which is why they couldn't stay in the office no more because it went digital yes yeah so i was like cleverness right yep that's pretty cool so um

Really fine, Pearl. Where would you rate this one from a 1 to 10? For me, it's an 8 because I have fun with it. Okay. Fair enough. I can go with that. I'm totally down for that. That's actually what I'd give it to. Yeah, I like it a lot. Yeah, definitely, because it's like so lighthearted. It is so...

I don't want to call it goofy. I don't want to say it's goofy. It's just... comedic it's very comedic it was entertaining like throughout I thought it was very entertaining yeah definitely if you're a pet owner you're gonna sit here and crack up at this thing thinking like or look at your pet and say hmm yeah exactly like is this Yeah, when I leave, do you do this? Well, that's why, like, because I had a poodle mix terrier.

back in the day and and he was a bully like he would beat me up beat anyone else up i mean he was feisty but he was smart he he knew how to play with my ipad i even have videos of him like you know scrolling and doing things because he wanted to see things i would i had the old-fashioned you know tv at the time where you press the button and i mean it had a remote but you still had the button where i would fight with him i would i would

turn off the remote i'll be like no more tv and he would look at me go down on the floor and press the button i'm like here we are going back and forth But he was an insomniac like me, you know. He would watch TV all night, do whatever, you know, and just... All nights. Yeah. Did he have any favorite shows? He did. He liked Married With Children. And you know, the funny thing is, there was a commercial of the Easter Bunny commercial, like Let's Get It On song.

He will storm in, run, and sit in front of the TV just to hear that part. It's like, what? You like that? Let's get it on. Wow! Let's get it on. Oh, that's so funny, Pearl. You got anything else on Good Boy? Nope, just that I want another dog. Just not that dog. Just not that dog. Not Ruben? No, if we're going to the animal shelter.

Any dog that looks that much odd different than the rest of them, forget it, love them. I'm sorry. That's right. Well, you know what? I just always happen to get mean animals for some reason. I don't know why. You definitely did on the fishy. Yeah, I got two fish. No, I got two little fishes. Well, not little anymore, but two goldfishes to be with the catfish.

These two goldfishes are like freaking fighting every moment. She calls them mean. I got a mean one. They're fighting all the time and I can't stop them. And then I had a... cat last year and that cat would beat me up all the time i remember hearing i remember you guys yeah bless his heart oh yeah that's awesome well good boy for pearl that was pet appreciation week love

That is the holiday. Good one. That's nice that you chose that one. All right. So let's go to season one. And that was in season two, by the way. Yeah. So let's go back to season one, and I'm going to do episode two. You already did episode one, Chris, so I'm going to do episode two. And there's a reasoning behind the one I chose. It's called Flesh and Blood. This is a holiday for Thanksgiving.

So this one revolves around Thanksgiving. It's aired November 2nd, 2018. There's a reason behind this choosing, and that was because of the director, which is Patrick Lussier. Patrick Lussier, I have been such a major, major, major fan of this individual, and I knowed him through not physically knowed him, so don't think that I text this guy. Maybe I do. Maybe I don't.

I have known him through Todd Farmer, who we've had on the podcast way back in the day, who wrote Jason X and, you know, different things that he has done, okay? So Patrick Lucier and him were basically... a duo they were kind of a team uh worked together and he has given us stuff as uh great as the 2009 remake of my bloody valentine uh he gave us drive angry

He gave us, you know, the screen, the TV series, one episode, not much, but he gave us the movie in 2019 that I really love, which is called Trick. i think it's oh yeah i love that yep i remember seeing that a few years ago and i i you would probably mention it and i love that one and that ed um was tom atkins was in there too right one of his last move yeah that was really good given us a lot of these he also did dracula 2000 dracula 2000 or dracula

two ascension and dracula three legacy and white noise too so that's just some of the things patrick's given us uh but that's the reason behind this before i even knew what we were getting into and then we get into the actual uh hour and 33 TV, series, movie, whatever you want to call it. So let's go ahead and break it in. Once again, it's Thanksgiving, and we got Kimberly, who is played by this actress, young actress named Diana Silvers. Very talented, and I liked her in this one.

by the way. So you got Kimberly, who we open up the scene with her and her father, Dermot Mulroney. Okay, he plays Henry Toombs. And let me go ahead and... tell you straight up the bat, if you've seen Scream 6, spoiler, then you know where Dermott can go, right? We know where he can go as a character. Just saying, throwing that out there. You are Jolene. He plays the father, Henry, and then we have the mother.

who is Meredith Salinger played by Rose Tombs played by Meredith Salinger. We have this great moment at the beginning where they're having Thanksgiving dinner. There's a lot of laughter and whatnot. And then we flash forward and we don't know. exactly what's happened, but things are different. Things are definitely a little darker, moodier. We found out that Kimberly suffers from

Alga, agoraphobia, whatever. The fear of going outside. I can't remember what the exact. Agoraphobia. Agoraphobia. It's the fear where you can't. go outside. Like you're literally, you know, housed. And this has happened since her mother, we find out, has been murdered. and the case has never been solved and henry who work is working on the house they're refinishing the house he does stuff outside we got this whole scenario of a mother i mean a mother that's been murdered a daughter who is

to all of a sudden have agoraphobia and then a father who's trying to hold things together. And we have a therapist that comes in as well, Dr. Helen Saunders, played by Tim B. Locke. uh who is very pushy by the way and i guess as a therapist you kind of have to be in a way but i thought she was very pushy in this like i didn't if if i was going through some of the stuff she was going through i would not want a therapist to be quite like her No, it was almost like...

tough love in a way I guess like she was really trying to get her yeah exactly and I get she's yeah I get Kimberly's a teenager and maybe you got to give her that type scenario I just thought it was sometime it was a little rude but anyways we find out that is coming up to Thanksgiving again, and Henry ends up giving Kimberly a necklace.

a particular necklace and she loves it she's like oh thank you you know she puts it on and she wears it you know yada yada um and through this we also know they have this house that's like three-story they got two-story and then there's an attic and and uh

Kimberly's on medication. She's heavily medicated because of the agoraphobia and the different things going on. Her father's always on her about taking this medication. And every time she goes to bed, she always notices that he goes up in the attic. It doesn't really register to her, but at the same time, she's curious. She's definitely curious. Why does he keep going up to the actual attic?

That doesn't play in until one day that she's watching the news and a missing person happens to be a girl pops up on the screen and she notices immediately a necklace that looks very familiar. And that necklace happens to be the one that's around her neck. And she screen captures it with her phone. She pauses it.

Here's the thing. I know, and we'll get more into this, but I'm going to stop it right here for one second. Because here's the thing that I didn't understand was how quick she was to judge her father. Immediately she goes into... Something's wrong here. My father may have done this, right? As a child, I don't think I would have been able to connect dots so quick on my father being a murderer with just the fact that he gave me this necklace.

Right. Especially where he is such like... he seems like such a loving father right he's you know like they're doing renovations on the house he's really caring for her telling her there's a present coming for you maybe you should go outside and take it so porch pirates don't get like he's shows no signs of any any psychotic up to that point nothing so i'm like why did she go into strict like

detective mode my dad may have done this murders and it causes her to eventually look in his bedroom and finds a memoir book and then she ends up going in the attic and she finds something so but for me i'm like looking at this as a viewer thinking like this is like 10 minutes into the movie 10 15 minutes and we have no clue that he's doing this at except the fact that she's already in complete mode yeah but remember her therapist you said

that she keeps pushing her. But she keeps pushing her because she knows that she's hiding memories. Sometimes something within those memories can subconsciously be saying, hey, I know my dad better than this. There's something that doesn't add up right. You know, but it's also, you know, the fact of that's why she was being pushy because she wasn't wanting to do her part, you know, exercise on it.

I get that, but at the same time, they never gave us anything to warrant that. Well, they kind of did. The medication, he keeps pushing her. It does say on the label, it causes amnesia. Well, we didn't find out until after that, though. The first part, it still did, though. I don't know. Just to me, I just felt it was off. I would have never... If I was...

If I was her and my dad was this, it would have never made me go question immediately. Like, dude, I think my dad is definitely a murderer. This is not my necklace. This is blah, blah, blah. But anyway, so we got this whole scenario where she goes into his bedroom and she finds this memoir book. uh that she goes through and finds a ribbon which ends up getting her in trouble because when she goes to put this book up ribbon falls and she doesn't realize it

And he ends up finding out that he's done that. But when she goes into the attic, she goes into the attic and she's looking around. And she finds the suitcase. And we know now, too, by now, we know that the mom was a flight attendant. So she worked at an airline. She would, you know, fly a lot.

uh so there's that scenario that ends up and i'll get to that in a little bit but uh so we find she has a suitcase or a luggage thing and she opens it and there's also a little i'm gonna call it a tackle box but it's basically a little box like a

pencil box back in the day if you remember pencil boxes in school opens up it's got all these compartments and there's all this jewelry and ribbons and different things that would be something typically maybe a girl would wear and she questions it so she grabs it

And she ends up bringing it downstairs. Her dad is out doing whatever. We know now murdering people, but she didn't know at the time. And she sets it on the table with all this jewelry. And as soon as he walks in, she goes into blasting him. Yeah, where's this necklace?

from who's all this stuff and get starts giving the third degree yeah they have the same tarnished spot right she and how she saw that on the tv oh yeah exactly like come on bro i'm sorry patrick but you're you're really speeding this up a lot from just a photo on tv that was taken so it's like yeah that was paul's that would really be grainy there would be exactly yes i've been anyway whatever you know movie magic but she's questioning now she's

starting to realize something is awry here. Something is wrong. The father ends up panicking. There's a fight that takes place in a bedroom to the point that she ends up locking the door, calls the police, please show up. when the police show up they are for domestic violence they question her and

He tries to talk to her before the police stating, like, look, you know me. You know I didn't have anything to do with this. The police are going to come. They're going to take you away. They're going to put you, you know, into a home or whatever. You're not going to want this, you know. So she. ends up backing out she ends up telling them it was you know she was just

it was kind of a joke, you know, nothing really happened, blah, blah. So the police leave other than the fact that the woman gives her a card. There's an important card given to her that says, if you ever need this call, which she does eventually need this. Uh, Let's just go ahead and get right into the guts of this. We find out that he has been murdering all these girls. There's a bulletin that pops up about missing people, and we don't know how many.

But we know there's several looking at that box that he's got. He's definitely murdered more than five. I would dare say there's definitely more. And we even find out that he literally, here's the big spoiler, murdered his own wife. Right. And that's the big kicker that we find at the end. And I think, too, I don't think it was ever mentioned fully, but in his eye,

I think it was the fact that they were supposed to have Thanksgiving that night and she got a call and she had to go take a flight. And I think he was jealous. I think it was, he was thinking she was running around. Maybe she was cheating on him. I think is what.

I'm gathering from it. And maybe she was, I don't know. It was never given, but in his eye, that's what he was thinking. So he ended up murdering her and, and, uh, there becomes this whole, uh, he kills the freaking, oh my God, in such a brutal way. He kills. the therapist with a nasty throat slit that was freaking phenomenal. Oh, yeah. Freaking throat rip.

And then he goes into full psycho mode with him and his daughter. They're fighting each other to the point that he locks her, ties her up, and then pours gasoline all over her. He's just going to kill them both. Like, I'm done. Oh, yeah. He totally went over to deep end.

she was so scared too yes i mean the way she portrayed i think like a lot of these if you can get some decent acting it really just sets these movies up you know apart it just puts them in another level because she looked scared she looked hurt everything because that's her dad pouring gasoline on her it's like and then pouring gasoline on the on the dead body like oh this is not gonna end well right and here's the thing like i thought at first

uh diane silvers who plays kimberly i wasn't feeling her as a character That well, I thought, man, she's a little weak as an actress, right? But she's young, whatever. But by that second, third act, like you're mentioning, Chris, she really shows and emotes a lot of emotion. That's hard to gather from a young actress.

and she she went there yeah and that's when i realized like you said like dude they got a really talented actress that pulled off her part really well and dermot was amazing in this one he played you know a great father turned serial killer father in a heartbeat. And you believe it. Like he is, he goes psycho. And, uh, I just really, really, really freaking love this episode.

Yep. Me too. This one is so, it has the gore that you want. It has the suspense. It has the thrills. Was it sped up a little bit for story purposes? Yes. They didn't give us enough. It just kind of went into full detective. mode i think if it would have been done as a movie instead of a tv movie i think they would have spent a little bit more time explaining things but you know yeah i agree and also like he was like this loving father and as soon as she kind of was questioning it

Then all of a sudden, he always looked suspicious. Yes. Now, for the last however many years he's been killing people, not one thing, all of a sudden, once she's questioning the necklace, everything he does now, he looks suspicious. Like, okay. he's almost crazy and you never saw that in the first like you say 10 minutes so that was kind of they i think they rushed that part as well where he just all of a sudden you know but

Yeah, the ring. She had a ring that she found that had a little blood stain on it. But that's where her agoraphobia comes in because she's supposed to feel safe. And when she started not feeling safe, she started questioning everything. Plus the medication too. Remember the medication causes psychotic and even the therapist had told him separately like keep an eye on her. She may have like these psychotic moments. He told the cop lady.

it's funny because they're saying like oh we came here as fast as we could and it was like 30 minutes later yeah i know good lord yeah that shit But this one is so good. This one's really, really good. And I think when I say a banger, this one's a banger, dude. This one's a 9-5, dude. Patrick crushed it. the acting in this is so good and i think what keeps it really good is that the cast is really small and it all takes place inside this house

Uh, which I thought was, exactly. It's one location and, and it's perfect. Like I really, um, oh god where they go in this thing is so freaking great we even have the attic scene we have the the scene in between the walls with somebody high it was so many oh yeah and he's trying to like use the sledgehammer to get out almost

Like people under the stairs. Yeah. So freaking good. It's called Flesh and Blood, listeners. I really would love for you to check this one out, man. And one thing about this that was different. than the other two there was really no humor no in this one so that's kind of like how it seems like how this whole series goes some movies are going to be really just more serious some are going to be a little bit lighter more entertaining they all have like the horror elements and they've got

some decent core but it's just kind of different like that and that's what i liked is the kind of going back and forth like that yeah definitely zero humor in this one this is a straight up horror movie yep all serious and it's all thanksgiving so i loved it so once again flesh and blood this one

aired November 2nd, 2018, and the holiday was Thanksgiving. So that is three out of the way, and we're going to go to our last one that we watched for this show, and we're going to head back over to Chris. So, Chris, what was the final one that you – And by the way, I gave it a 9.95. Pearl, where would you have came in on that one? I'm just curious. Eight. Eight. Where would you have came in? I was eight on this one. Okay, perfect. Yeah.

So where is your next one, Chris? Okay, so the next one is basically this is the last movie of the whole series. This is the second. season and it's the 12th episode called blood moon and i did look on this i guess the special holiday was the spring full moon some of these holidays are a little suspicious yes they really are right they are so all right it's like it's like here we go okay you got to do this movie we're going to give you the money to do this and you got to pick a holiday right

It's got to come out in March. Yeah, so somebody's probably in their mind thinking, I've already had this movie written. I don't know what I could do with it because I really want to get it made. But, oh, he says it's got to be a holiday. It's got a full moon in it. We'll call it the...

The spring full moon. There's got to be one in March somewhere. Oh, my God. That's so funny. I think they probably did St. Patrick's Day the year before, so you're not going to do two of that. So it's like, all right, here we go. That's funny.

All right, so I'll just give you the little synopsis first, then we can go on. I didn't write notes on this one. I've seen it, but I didn't watch it twice. I wanted to watch all these twice to get notes, and this one I just never got a chance to watch a second time, but I remember it pretty good. So we got, is it Esme or Esme? Esme is what they were saying. Esme, right, yeah. Esme and her son Luna.

moved to a small town to begin a fresh life, only to find that the reception given to them is not what they expected. When the locals begin to investigate Esme, she must protect Luna from a terrible secret involving a werewolf.

and so right there like i love werewolf movies they're probably my favorite monster of any of the monsters werewolves have been my favorite since i was a kid so i saw this i'm like all right i'm definitely going to check this one out and so the way it starts out you've got Esme. It's like a flashback scene where she's holding a gun, a rifle, and it looks like she had just had some type of struggle with something. And then you hear a baby crying.

What was the baby in? Not a crib, but it was like a carrier, right? It was like a carrier, but it was definitely a steel carrier. Yeah, it's like that. So it's like, huh, that's weird. She takes the baby out. It's obviously daytime. Is this a dog? It's like, I know, but then you hear the baby crying. So it's like, oh no, not another good boy part two, right? All right, no, it's not that. And so then it flashes, you know, flashes forward and Esme and her son, Luna.

and they're going to be starting a new life so they buy a new house and uh she goes down like she's kind of meeting the people in the small town and she's got a she gets a job that has like a waitress in a pub or whatever. And, you know, she's a single mom. You got kind of guys. They'd be nice with it.

some of them are kind of hitting on her she has a run-in with like a what is he a deputy yeah cop and he's kind of hitting on her so you can kind of see where it's one of these like small backwoods towns or whatever you know and then as she's serving drinks some guy

is hitting on her inappropriately. She goes, what'd she say? Like, what if I slit your throat or something like that? And then, uh, the owner of the bar says, you know, that's the sheriff. She's like, oh shit. But so, you know, this is probably going to come into play because it's.

As you see, she buys some materials. She wants to build a cage, and she's building it down in her basement. And she is getting help from a lot of the people in the town and stuff. And she's got the calendar, and she's got a date circled, and she's X-ing them off. and her son can't go to school.

You know, he's got to be homeschooled. She won't let him, you know, go to school, play with other kids and stuff. And you get the feeling they've been moving around a lot. You know, and it flashes back to when she meets her boyfriend. I can't remember his name. I'm sorry. Do you remember his name? Oh. i can't but and he has like some secret he wants to tell and you know he gets her pregnant and so you can kind of see where it's going if you know

and uh so anyways joseph joseph was the guy she married okay joseph yeah and that's the one that you know she has to end up killing yes you know so basically he's got a curse where he's a werewolf and so he gets out of the cages she has to basically kill him and eventually luna asks her too he's like you know

Why did you have to shoot him? And she's like, well, I thought he was going to come at me. But she didn't know for sure. But she had probably seen the action. So what she would do is put him in this cage at the full moon every month. She went out, slaughtered a cow.

brought some of the meat back. And at one point she's got the dead, some of the dead cow in the back and the cops pull her over and they're just giving her a hard time. Step out of the, you know, step out of the truck, frisking her. I'm going to pat you down. First, you think she's going to get like,

sexually assaulted or something you know yeah and they do let her go which is cool but you can tell these are just really just sleazy people you know here and so she is able to uh to get home and then she's got to put luna in the cage and she's reading what was she she reading tom sawyer one of those books and stuff or very thin and you don't really see you know what's going on but he's changing and she's got the rifle i think it has um i don't think it's a shock i think it has uh like

darts like uh tranquilizers darts almost yes that she's putting in and um and so then of course he gets invited to a birthday party and she's like no you can't go you can't go it's too close it's like the the day of the full moon and then uh but he goes anyways and she comes home from work

and he's gone and now it's getting to be late so she's got to go to the party picks him up puts him in the truck on the way home and oh she she crashes but he starts turning now they don't show up but he does leave the uh leaves the truck in the next day she finds him brings him home in the watching the news and it looked like there was a

a few things killed but they just blamed it on what coyote or wolves or something like that it wasn't any people so the so he's like can we stay she's like yeah we can stay and then uh but then with the i'm trying to think and then the uh there's all these things happening like since the cops are out of the house like you know since you showed up there's been this going on that going on then so they're there the day the next month now when it's the full moon again

and so this she's up there with a gun and they're basically they put her in the car they're looking through the house and at this point she couldn't uh She couldn't kill like a cough or whatever. So she had to get all this like rotten meat, which stunk. And the deputy goes down and sees this kid in the cage. So they think she's just being an abusive mom. Right. So they take him out, take him to the police station.

they've got him sitting down he gives them like a candy or something like that and they're questioning her and she's like look you need to put him in a cage put him in one of the cells please just do it and you know they just think she's totally crazy and so then of course this is the end he

he changes and he goes through all the cops just annihilates him and then she grabs one of the cops gun in the with the wolf comes out and she's pointing the gun she's like please don't make me do this luna and all of a sudden you can see his face softens yeah and so she knows knows that

He's not going to hurt. Now, the one thing I can say, and we talked about this earlier, but I thought this movie had a lot of potential. Yes. I thought the acting was very good in it. I loved the story. There was some great tension. especially where he's going to be turning. You don't know what's going to be going. I really thought it had a lot, but it was the last maybe 10 minutes, which kind of took me out. And like, okay, when I see any werewolf movie, I love when the werewolves are on.

two legs whether it be you know the wolfman the howling any of those tom nashe films or okay is it tom nashe what's his name paul paul nashe paul paul nashe I like those better than the werewolves on all fours. However, in American Werewolf in London, I thought they did a great job with that because he did look monstrous. This one, it just looked like a wolf.

Yes. And just a big wolf. And I'm like, ah. So that really, when I saw that, it kind of was like, it just, I don't know, it was disappointing. I guess I can say. When I saw that, I was like, all right. I still love the story. I love the fact that

Even as a wolf, he knew enough not to attack his mom. I think he was just going out of fear. So when he was taking everyone out, because really she never even knew if he would attack anybody. I'm sure his whole life she put him in a cage and fed him. So she really never knew.

you know and i'm thinking he was just scared his mom was being questioned all these cops were there probably shooting at him and so i'm thinking maybe that's why and so i like i said story-wise was great i just didn't like the uh

effect of the wolf it was basically just a big gray wolf you know yeah and i'll go to pearl on this too i i think i'm right with you because i do like my werewolves to be walking as well um but one thing i do appreciate i think that on the flip side of what you're saying is, is actually...

at least they didn't go to the cgi aspect of things and they kept it practical effects with this dog this wolf yes oh yeah for sure that because i was wondering i would say is it is it a real dog because it looked like um because a lot of times you could tell like when they touch it if it was

cga wouldn't look right yeah and this did but it looked big it was really big so definitely yeah they could have done that with some type of trick photography like just offset it a little bit to make the dog look a little bit bigger than what really you know what i mean how they can do that with the way they feel. They can, but I know because Pearl knows more about this than I do, but a true wolf

dog are very large. Yeah. Okay. The Timberwolf is the largest. Yeah, and you can tell this is a real wolf dog. This was not your typical dog. It's their long face that gives them away. Yeah, you could definitely tell that. I'm with you, dude. I thought Esme Rawls, who was Megalyn Echakanukwa. Yeah. Look it up. I loved her. I thought she was a really talent. And Luna.

played by Jonas Cabrini. But my favorite character in this one was Miguel. I like the store owner, Marco Rodriguez, who played Miguel. He was that guy that... He's your typical store owner, country store owner, right? Yeah. And she wants to build this cage, so he's got to bring all this material. And he brings all this material. He's like, question her, what is she doing? And she helps her unload it. and he unloads, and then she says...

You know, I need to pay you an installment plans. And he looks at her. Yeah, that's a good job, bitch. You know, like you waited until I finished all this unloading now. And he said, I'm too tired to put it back in. All right, fine. But she makes good on it. Like she makes her payments. Everything about this woman is a legit good woman that is just confused because she has this problem with her son. Yeah. And you can't.

make it known to people because they obviously would put the kid away but i agree what you say about Miguel, and he had a good heart. He was always willing to help her out, and he knew she wasn't taking advantage of her, so he was always willing to go the extra mile for it. So I liked him. He was actually probably my favorite character.

In the movie as well. Absolutely. For sure. Yeah, I feel bad for two parts, actually. Uh-oh. Well, because now that she knew, because even when the kid was in the car and there was a part where... after the party where she's like will you finally tell me about my dad and that's when she tells him what happened and everything yeah he looked at her and he said well how do you know like how do you know he was gonna attack you like yeah

She never knew and now that she knows that about her son, but still like what are you living with like do you play in the back of your head would he attack me would he have not i mean he was an adult wolf that's what i'm thinking is maybe he would still have attacked like he was living with this way before he knew her

And didn't it look like she had scratches on her back at the beginning? So it almost looked like she might have been attacked or something. Yeah, because she said I had to do it. But I give her kudos. I mean, she was a great mom. She did everything she had to do. Even look at when Sam came over and she told him no one opened the door for people and she opens the door and Sam's there with flowers and, you know, whatever else, her last pay. Look what happens. You know, he goes and wishes.

even know why he did that but he goes investigating the smell what a nosy guy like he just walks in there like i'll go down there and look i'll go wait a minute you're not even supposed to first of all you're a visitor at his house but this is yep this is and this is what i think of dave thinly sliced because it's like roast beef slit yeah because not only the cows but with Sam

She cut that meat perfectly because he leaves piles of meat. Oh, God. And no skin, no bones, no nothing. I'm like, wow, you've gotten a pro at it. Could this be a Brady Bunch moment with Sam the Butcher? Right. Oh, maybe. Even though he wasn't a butcher, he was a bar owner, but whatever. But I actually think the name of the title Blood Moon was perfect. I mean, because... So, I mean...

meaning Blood Moon is a connection between dark and light. So there's the darkness of everything she went through, but there was light in the whole story at the same time. And the thing is, when the... guy finally told her her joseph about being a werewolf and then her going through all this and how it passes on you know kindred and everything All that portrays to Indian folklore. Yeah, thank you. And that's why natives would show...

The werewolf being an actual wolf because that's a totem. It's a high prey. So I see why they put also a wolf at the same time. And it was a white wolf, which I thought was really good. He was the light. So we don't know what Joseph was. was he could have been a black well well let's look at it yeah we don't know what color he was and we know that that luna when released when he actually had freedom to go kill that night

He didn't go murder anybody. He went to the fields and slaughtered cows. Right. He didn't go after humans. He went strictly after cows. Which Luna in Spanish is moon, so he was the light of the moon. So it was interesting that he didn't go after townspeople.

Yeah, and his mom was right in the car unconscious. So she probably wouldn't have had to have been worried because obviously... he just took off but yeah yeah a little bit of the john lander thing because with david he looked at at alex before like At the very end, yeah. You could see a little bit of humanity, and then he smiled again. Well, he only did that because he knew he had to die. Yeah, that's true. He couldn't live that way.

He basically looked at her like one last time saying I love you kind of deal. Yep. Yeah. Yep. The director in this one too, Chris, Emma Tammy. Do you know what she directed? No. Let me throw it at you. I've not seen it, but it was a huge hit. The Friday, uh, five night at Freddy's. Oh, I haven't seen that either, but okay. I'm well aware of it. Yeah. So that is, yeah, that was her directed movie. And she's also did a few other things too. I've not seen, uh,

The left-right game, I have no, it's a podcast series. The Wind, I have never heard of. Oh, you know what? I think that might be on Shudder. Oh, okay. I think it is. I'm almost paused. Pretty sure it's called The Wind. Yeah. Oh, no kidding. Yeah, a plains woman faces the harshness and isolation of the untamed land in the western... That sounds just like it is. It was on shot. I'm pretty sure it was in my... Actually, I think we have seen that.

It's in my queue. I'm probably going to watch this. I've heard mixed things on it. So once you start that, I'm like, maybe if I really want to see it at some point. But maybe that would be worth watching. That was 2018. there you go uh what else you got on this one uh chris i also gave this one an eight and i think if the again i can understand why they made the wolf look like it did in

Pearl, the way you broke it down, that actually makes sense with the whole Native American thing. I give it an 8 because I just wasn't that impressed with it. But knowing that, I could probably bump up to an 8.5. for sure it may be even a nice i really did like this one i'm this up to seeing the wolf it was

Probably my favorite one out of them. I just thought the way it was done was very well. I liked everything. Like you say, the cinematography was great. I loved the acting. The characters. Loved all the characters. i think i could bump that to a nine easily that was really good yeah yeah look guys i was just disappointed but the way when you the way you broke it down that does kind of make sense so

I give it a 9 as well, but mine is because I love the dedication the mom gave. Oh, she was amazing. She was everything. and uh and of course the whole story and of course i like anything more well her her ability to act was phenomenal like she had to go from protective mom to scared mom to fearful mom and she did all the emotions you would expect like there's tears when needed to be there's fear when needed to be uh when she needed to murder she murdered the cow you know like

Oh, yeah. Which, by the way, Pearl and I said the first scene where she went and shot the cow in the head with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. we call total bullshit like there's no way that this framed girl uh lady was able to skin this cow and do all this stuff in the length of time she did put it in her car drive no way in in no way in this lifetime because she had had time to do what she did but it's movie magic blisters exactly so overlook it but still it was like

I loved her. I thought she was tremendous. And where the Miguel, once again, man, I freaking love him. The way that he comes through at the end and gives her the ride and protects her, I thought was... so awesome poetic whatever you want to call it he really stuck up for and i appreciated that too so oh definitely and he looked very familiar to me but i

I don't think I could place anything he was on, but something about him was very familiar. It's almost like he had maybe attributes of different actors that I've seen over the years. There was something familiar about him, but I don't know if I've seen him in anything else. He's definitely been in...

something. I'll look that up real quick. And, uh, uh, when I was looking at him, I was like, what is it that, that I remember? Cause I know I remembered them and I'll have to look this up. This will take a second. So I know he's been in Blood Moon. Of course, I'm getting this instead of a movie. You put Blood Moon 2021, you think you're going to be looking up a freaking movie. No, you're getting a Blood Moon, literally. Oh, God. Bless America. Sorry, love.

No, it's fine. So here we go. No, it's not Mona Lisa Blood Moon. What was his name anyway? Miguel, what was his name? Marco Rodriguez. Yeah, Marco Rodriguez. Pearl's a lot quicker than I am. I'm trying to look at shit. It says he was in Cobra, but he was the supermarket killer. I saw that 30 years ago. Was he the killer? In the supermarket, right? The supermarket killer? Dude!

He's on Toolbox Murders. Okay, bam. He was in High School High. He was a man apart with Vin Diesel. Okay. He was in Serial Killer, yeah, with Tobin Bell. Sorry. Oh, it was straight up Cobra I know him from. Cobra he was in. He was also an intricate man. He was in an episode of Seinfeld, too. Yeah. The English patient. But, honestly, I think I recognize him more in The Crow.

See, I don't remember him from that What was he in the original Crow? What was he in the original Crow? He was God, I forgot his name Um He was Torres. Torres. Okay, so he was one of the gangster or one of the... Okay, all right, cool. So it was probably like just small parts, like... Right. Like character active parts. I definitely recognize them. But it's just something that looked familiar. There's also a man on fire with Benzo Washington. Yeah. Cool. Hmm.

Well, there you go, listeners. That is Into the Dark. And there are, once again, two seasons of this out there. And I highly recommend watching these. I'm going to go back and watch all of them. But let me do a rundown here. I'm going to give you the holidays. So episode one was... uh the body and that was a Halloween holiday episode two flesh and blood of course Thanksgiving that we talked about both of those

Puka. I want to see Puka. I have not seen Puka. I haven't either. There's actually two of them in the series. The first one was Christmas. The fourth one is called New Year, New You, which is a New Year's Eve, clearly. I've seen that one, actually. Way back when, yeah. All right, so number five, or fifth episode, was Down, which is a Valentine's Day.

Uh, the sixth one was a tree house and that one is an actual holiday of international women's day or the odds of March. Huh? Um, here's the seventh episode. I'm just fucking with you. which which guess what holiday that was okay we know it's valentine's day because why wouldn't it be i thought it'd be april fool actually it is april fool's day i'm sorry

The eighth episode was All That We Destroy, which is Mother's Day. Episode nine was They Come Knocking, which is Father's Day. Episode 10 was Culture Shock, which is Independence Day. Wednesday. Oh, now here's one of the biggest holidays of any holiday, and that's school spirit, which is the first day of school. What? What?

This is a holiday. Some of them are kind of a stretch. I would have thought Flesh and Bone would have been about Father's Day. You would think. Pure, which was that 12th episode, the last episode of season one, is Daughter's Day. I didn't know that was a day. Yeah. And I've actually, we've seen Pure.

That one was actually pretty good. Episode 13, which would have been season two, first episode is Uncanny Annie, which is Halloween once again by Paul Davis. Episode 14 is a phenomenal episode, guys. This was episode two of season two, and that's called Pilgrim, which is Thanksgiving. And Marcus Dunstan. Holy crap. Have you seen that one? Yes. Because I have it.

It sounds like it would be Thanksgiving, but I don't know. It is, and we've seen it. I've seen it at least three times. Oh, wow. It's a must-watch on Thanksgiving, dude. It is so good. Okay, for sure. Yeah. Oh. You will love it. I promise you'll love it. Episode 3, Season 2, Episode 15 overall is A Nasty Piece of Work, which is Christmas. Episode 16 or Episode 4 of Season 2 is Midnight Kiss, which is New Year.

episode 17 episode 5 of season 2 is my valentine well gee whiz valentine's day episode 18 season 2 episode 6 is crawlers which is St. Patrick's Day Lookie there. Episode 19, season 2, episode 7, Pooka Lives! Another Pooka. Another Pooka, and it's not Christmas this time. It's Easter, or it also says, a.k.a. Pooka Day.

episode 20 season 2 episode 8 is delivered which is mother's day and that's okay that works well and then we know episode 21 season 2 episode 9 is pearl's movie good boy which is pet appreciation day week not a day it's a week episode 22 season 2 episode 10 is the current occupant which is independence day episode 23 season 2 episode 11 is tentacles and why would that not be valentine's day because

Everybody on Valentine's Day has got tentacles hanging out. Oh, yeah, for sure. And as Chris has just reviewed, episode 24, season 2, episode 12 was Blood Moon, which was Spring Full Moon. Bam. There it is. list. Fun series, man, of what movies we've seen. Pooka is an Irish movie for the creature that shapeshifts. Pooka is an Irish... I want to see Pooka because it makes me think of Benny Loves You.

All right, so we're going to be watching Pooka. We're going to make that happen. And I got a little Pooka in my hand right now. It's this little Pooka creature that Pearl gave me. It's a little blue. I don't know what you would call it, but he's got an axe in his hand and he's... Oh, nice. Yeah, he's pretty cool. I bet it sounds... That'd be a good double feature, Pukin Pukitu. Yeah, there you go. Check him out. So as we wrap this up, man, this has been a blast, man. I have absolutely...

Had one of the best times I've had in a long time. Thanks for that, me too. This has been a lot of fun. What I really enjoyed was that all four of the episodes that we watched were good.

yeah yes yep and i'll tell you look at it like i was looking at the you know premises on a lot of different ones and there was a lot that looked really good and i could have went with easily three or four others that i was like oh this would be good this would be good and why i picked the ones they did i just kind of went with them but there was a lot that looked like so i'm definitely going to be checking a lot of these movies out as well yeah holly once again pilgrim yeah

Oh, yeah, I definitely want to see that. You have got to watch that. I'm telling you, you will watch Pilgrim every year on Thanksgiving after you watch it the first time. You will make it a tradition to watch it. I'm telling you, it's so good. Oh, great. Awesome. So, Pearl, what you got? Should we just pass around final thoughts? Yep. All right, well, let's do that. So let's head over to you first, Chris. Once again, thank you.

uh absolutely for being on the show tonight it's been an absolute blast but this is time for you to do your final thoughts your plugs and every good thing you want to do right now well i guess i want to say thanks for having me this was a thrill man i can't even tell you when uh you get when pro 7 to mess i was just in in the stratosphere and this was so much fun and love you guys um as far as like plugs and stuff i'm

The only place really online to find me is the LOTC group page. I have a Facebook account, but I never really go on that. And I'm on there, and I do have a Letterboxd account. And I think it's just my name, Chris Bartoli, Christopher Bartoli.

and that's pretty much that's everything man but uh yeah this is a ball i would definitely i'd recommend the series these are some good for the four i've i've actually seen i think six total over the course but i would definitely uh i would definitely um check these out i think if you like horror you'll like these they're fun and each one's you know you're not talking any more than like an hour and a half so you can kind of bang it out pretty quick yeah

Yeah, totally. That's cool, man. Definitely check out. What I would recommend is just get in the group. Just get in the Facebook group and you'll find Anthony. I'm looking Anthony up right now, which is so stupid. That's okay. We love Anthony. We love Anthony. I'm like Anthony Ragucci. And the reason I'm doing that too is... You didn't plug the podcast episodes that you were on with Anthony. Oh, yeah, that's right. You know what? Anthony, he's got a...

A great podcast, which I listen to a lot. It's the MRAC Film Club. Yes. And you can find it anywhere. We can find podcasts, I'm sure. And in February, they had the guest host on that. I kind of won a contest, but you know what? it was great i had a great time and that kind of got my you know dipping my toes in the podcasting or whatever was there and i absolutely loved it and we did a month of john carpenter movies and so we did four of them we did uh salt on pc 13.

The Fog. What's the other one? Shit. Hold on. Oh, Starman. And In the Mouth of Madness. But you could find me on there too. And I call into Linda the Creeps quite a bit too. Yeah. I've been a little bit slow lately. I'm in a nice relationship right now, so it's, you know, it's that new energy, excitement going on. And so, yeah, I haven't been watching as many movies, but life is good. So, yeah, that's it, man. And that's the main thing. So definitely check out the...

MRAC, which you should be doing that anyways, Anthony. Every month is a new topic, and they'll do a bunch of movies based on whatever the topic is. And sometimes they'll do like a supplemental movie with it. a lot of fun. The four guys are just... So much fun, man. It is. For great personalities. That's MRAC Film Club. MRAC. Look it up. And Anthony R. I know would appreciate that as well, man. Love Anthony. You and Anthony are just cut out of the same cloth.

man i just kind of i just love both of you so much that it's just like amazing how much i tell him i said next time you're up in massachusetts give me a call we'll go out the treehouse have a beer or something and just hang out there's not enough room in massachusetts

for you two together. Probably not. There is not. I promise you. The city will shut down if you two get together. That's all right. It'll open up the next day, I'm sure. That's right. That's right. Let's head over to Pearl. What you got, love? I was going to say, I listened to all four episodes. Phenomenal. But my favorite one was Starman, of course, because I love Starman. Yeah. I thought y'all did great on all four. John Carpenter's my favorite director of all time.

The one that y'all did on Assault on Precinct 13 was just my all-time favorite of the four, man. It was great. Oh, nice, yeah. I love that one, too. Well, for me, I mean... I always say I do have my letterboxes there. It exists. It exists. I take a look in it. I don't do nothing yet, but I will. Promise.

haven't yet no actually i've seen some of your reviews your reviews are very good like i'll make a few here and there and they're just really amateurs but your reviews are very like very good on on the letterbox look at those yeah you do a nice job but Thank you. You know what it is? It's when I'm on my own and I got no distraction because I get distracted easily. In other words, when I'm not home. That's what I figured out. I can.

I can put down what I have in my head. But the other way around, it's like, uh... what was i just talking about wait what no no that's awesome it's because i always interrupt her with a million things so when i'm not around she has peace and quiet and and she's able to just do what she wants to do accomplish what she wants And then when I come in, it's all havoc. Yeah. Add a little bit of mayhem. That's okay. That's right.

Well, you know, this was fun. Thank you for coming on and being our awesome guest. Appreciate it. And... You know what? If anyone out there has a mean doggy and don't want it anymore, you know where to shoot it at. My way. No. Excuse you. There's only one alpha male. You better choose wisely. I know, right? Oh, boy. Yes, ma'am. Anywho. But, yeah. I am in the main LTC group page and anywhere Gregor Morris is at.

That's right. And then for me, Chris, once again, thank you for being on and you'll be on the regular show really soon. So stay tuned for that listeners. Call in. Let everybody know what you thought of Chris, man. I know Chris would appreciate that too. You can definitely do that. 1-804-569-5682. You can call in and say, hey, man.

What did you think of this episode? What did you think of Chris Bartoli, man? You can call in and do that as well. I appreciate it. Or they can call in and say, hey, I have a dog named Cujo. You know, would you want him? I'd be like, yes. He's been foaming at the...

mouth a little bit but it's okay it's okay he's got a little bruise on his nose it's looking a little but if you just put a little band-aid on it he'll be fine yeah yeah i've noticed that he twitches a little bit around loud noises but he's fine he's a good dog Oh, yeah. He's loyal. Yeah, you'll love him. He's very loyal. Hey, I like Hellhound, so, you know. That's not a Hellhound one of us. That's a beast from Hell. Oh, yeah.
