ROTC presents Black Glove Mysteries with Ian Urza and Greg Amortis. Black Glove Mysteries. I'm your host Greg Amortis along with Ian Urza. What's going on, Ian? Greg, I may be homosexual, but I'm not homicidal. Yes! You are listening to episode 414 of LOTC double double 55. And you heard it from Ian. Yes, we are going to be talking to completely.

completely different giallo films tonight do they both fit in the genre we shall see but it's so sweet so dead from 1972 as well also known as the slasher is the sex maniac and penetration And we're looking at 1975's footprints, aka footprints on the moon. And I'm super excited, Ian. This is going to be fun. All right, so what we're going to be doing tonight is looking at these two films, Ian. I'm super excited, man. So Sweet, So Dead and Footprints.

AKA Footprints on the Moon. I think these are going to be really fun watches for sure. So what we're going to do is break them down. But Ian, what have we been doing for the last couple of weeks? What's been on your plate? I've been watching some, I mean, I haven't watched too many 1991 movies. I watched a lot of 1990 movies for the show you guys did. 1991 is going to be interesting. I'm going to send in my voicemail later tonight or my record.

But I don't think it's going to be quite as strong of a year as 1990. I'll just put it out there. I'm sure you might agree. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, 91 was pretty rough, I'll be honest. Yeah, 90 actually had a good list. When I looked at 1991 for all my films on Letterboxd, there weren't actually that... many that i had seen i was like oh wow there's only like nine films here i've seen from this year and then i took a look at like a list of films i'm like wow this is

pretty much all direct-to-video stuff, like all other stuff that I could watch. Yeah, it's going to be an interesting show. I'm excited. We're going to have Hugh Lloyd. uh joining us which is going to be fun from across the pond and i'm curious what he comes up with but it's gonna be a fun episode for sure

So the theater near me is doing a bunch of revival screenings recently. They did one for Hellraiser. So I went to see that in the theater. I thought that that was awesome. Nice. The original Hellraiser on the big screen. I thought it was amazing.

this week I'm also tomorrow I'm going to see Mulholland Drive I think that's like a David Lynch tribute to have that and then Thursday night I'm actually going to see the first Harry Potter movie which I never got to see in the theater I would have been a little too

too young for that. The second one I didn't see either, and that's playing the night after. So I might go see that as well. All the other Harry Potter movies I did see in the theater, but the first two I did not. So I might end up going to see both of those. I might go to the theater three nights in a row.

to see Mulholland Drive, the first Harry Potter movie, and the second one. That's pretty darn cool. Pearl and I were going to go see Hellraiser. We chose to see Hard Eyes opening night, and I'm glad we did. i love hellraiser it's so good and and pearl's not a big fan of the harry potter films so we don't really get into the harry potters because pearls like some people are and i get it i i i think the first three are really good films and then after that if you're a fan of the book

they tail off quite a bit because the fourth book is when jk rowling made it longer like it's the i think it's double the length of any of the first three and they just couldn't get everything into that movie that i think they could have um I think the sixth movie is pretty decent, but I think four, five, and seven, both parts of seven to me. Aren't as good. There's a lot of digital effects and I just don't think they they bring it to life as well as the books do but the first three

The first two are both directed by Chris Columbus, who's really good at making kids films. And then the third one is directed, weirdly enough, by Alfonso Cuaron, who's won Oscars and been nominated for them. So he's a really reputable filmmaker.

And that's actually a really strong film. I think the third Harry Potter movie is objectively the best in the series if you're talking about the films. Yeah, I've seen a couple of them, but I've never dove into them. I never read the book. So it was just a... It's kind of a field that I'm kind of vague on. I didn't dislike them. I remember liking the first couple, but I honestly couldn't even tell you what it was about anymore other than Daniel Radcliffe and different.

scenes I could probably bring out the snake and different thing I could probably remember scenes but I would never be able to remember the movies uh but that's cool man I hope you get to see them all then that'd be awesome if you can go back and say hey I've seen them all in the theater man that's what seven you said I believe

Yep. You know, I have seen all of them except for the first two. So this will be the chance to do that. Yeah, you got to do that. I love these retro movies coming out. I wish Mulholland Drive was playing here. That'd be awesome. Love some David Lynch. Actually, Pearl and I went to... barnes and nobles this afternoon and i picked up dune i'd never seen from start to finish the original dune from david lynch so i picked that up on the criterion uh

release blu-ray just to just to have it just to get my david lynch's going i got a couple other his uh moho and drive being one of them on criterion so trying to trying to set out all my you know i've got most of cronenberg's now and now i'm trying to get all inch so uh so yeah that's what we're doing so cool man it sounds like you're having fun man and movie watches and that's what we're all about so here we are tonight we're going to be looking at these two shallow

films uh once again they're two totally different and we'll get into the comparisons i'm sure uh and non-comparisons i guess you could say so what we'll do is we'll do them in chronological order i have not looked to see if these have trailers

but I will attempt and say there will be a trailer, and hopefully there is. If not, we'll try to edit that part out, but I kind of want a trailer. So let's go ahead and get right into it. We're going to go in chronological order like we always like to do, or at least I do. We're going to look at the very first of these, which is 1972, and it's called So Sweet, So Dead. Let's have a trailer. But the killer, a maniac. Is it possible he didn't leave a clue?

He left a very special one. Photos of the naked woman embracing a lover. He has some purpose. A plan. I know it. Do you think that he'll kill again? I think so He only attacks beautiful married women He only attacks them when they've been unfaithful to their husbands And then his attacks mean terror of the most frightening kind. I'm the Avenger, the one you insist upon calling a maniac. I'm going to kill your wife this very day.

Farley Granger is the policeman who tracks down the slasher. All right, Ian, take it away now for the plot for 1972. All right, so this is taken from So Deadly, So Perverse, Volume 1 by Troy Howarth. A murderer targets married women who have been cheating on their husbands. Inspector Capuana investigates and uncovers a number of positives. This one is one that is straight up shallow. This we have black glove.

killer we have a black glove hat we have a black glove or a black black stocking mask we got knives we got aster cigarettes we got jambi liquor we got everything that warrants a shallow this has got it in I agree, and it definitely has a slasher aspect because there is a high body count. This film checks off a lot of boxes in terms of you've got...

beautiful women, pretty much all of them getting naked. And then you've got a good number of kills. You've got the black, you know, the killer all dressed in black. My... problem with it a little bit and I think you're probably going to agree with me is I didn't really find too many of the sequences that memorable and I definitely didn't find too many of the characters memorable besides Farley Granger as Capuano.

and uh silvano tranquilli as uh palo santangeli who i believe is playing the like district attorney or something like that yeah i totally agree with you and even the

The fact that we got Susan Scott in this movie, a.k.a. Nev Navarro, even though we have her in it, you know, there's just not really enough character build to... appreciate any of these characters i mean the women are definitely body counts and which is okay i mean it's like that slasher movies too a lot of times there's no character bill but here's the thing i like the setup of the movie we're basically have a killer that is uh murdering women and when he murders them

He is dropping photos, which are basically these women are unfaithful to their husbands. And the killer is taking photos of them having these affairs. And then when he murders them, boom, drops evidence. Pretty neat. I like that. I thought the concept was pretty cool. and uh where it went was okay we got some good kills in this one mostly throat slashes and stuff which was okay and like i said there's a ton of nudity in it so if you're into that stuff you got that but

The Red Herons, we got a few of them in here for sure, and I think one of them absolutely won't say if he is or not, but Gaston played by the amazing Luciano Rossi. Luciano Rossi. And since we started doing the Black Glove Mysteries, I know him now. So it's like instantly, as soon as I see him, I'm like telling. He's like, he's a little bit more present in Euro crime films, but he's definitely in Giallo's. I think he's in, uh,

He's in a couple of Luciano Ricoli's films, if I'm not mistaken, right? He's in the Death Walks on High Heels and Death Walks at Midnight, I think. Yes. Yes. Both of them. And that's where I mainly know them, but you see them quite a bit now. So it's like, it's exciting when you start seeing these characters pop back up and you're like, okay, I've seen him before. I like the procedural here. So we got an inspector trying to...

The police are not in the best of light with the citizens. They're trying to figure this thing out. The inspector is he's got the help of a professor and a doctor and all these things going on. They're trying to track it down, which I think is still... interesting it's a shallow so that's what you need the red herons pop up and some of them you know you do question a little bit but

When the reveal was at the end of the movie, I wasn't 100% shocked, but at the same time, I was a little bit thinking it might have been somebody else. But what did you think of the reveal of the killer? Who it was was interesting because...

I like how, and I don't, I have to be careful. Like I'm not, spoiling anything out right here but I will give you a little bit of a hint maybe is the killer is actually doing misdirection on who the killer might be like the thing is is the killer is actually taking is actually trying to say oh this person didn't kill these people and it's funny that person ends up being the killer it's very strange

I actually kind of like that idea. I don't think we've seen that in many of these other movies before. Yeah, I totally agree. That's what I liked about it as well. So I wasn't displeased with it. I thought it was somebody else up until... right toward the middle of the end of the movie and then i'm like okay i'm kind of starting to see this should have been a little bit more obvious honestly uh but you know when it was all said and done

I was okay with the killer. Did you like the dubbing when they just arrested that one random guy? And he's like, I killed them, all these whores! Yes. And I'm like, what is this thing? What are we doing here? What are we, you know, what's the director going for here? What are we doing? And Luigi Angelo, what in the world? And this was directed by Roberto Benacci Montero. And have we seen anything by him? I don't.

recall ever seeing anything he's like a journeyman director i think um troy howarth had talked about in his book he Did a lot of assistant directing from, I think, what he had said. It looks like he directed some Peplum films. He directed some films after this as well. Second unit or assistant director.

Well, it looks like he was a director of seven pistols for a gringo. Yeah. Probably one of the, yeah. And one of the various spaghetti Westerns. Yeah. Yeah. So he definitely nobody that I recognized. And.

I didn't, I'll be honest, like I don't dislike the pacing of the movie. I thought it was shot well. I thought overall it felt nice and... crisp or whatever but there's something still lacking in this movie and i don't know exactly what i can put my finger on it it's you know what it is is it's like um

It's like eating a McDonald's burger compared to like a burger at a restaurant or something. You know what I mean? Like, that's kind of what it is where I feel like if someone like Argento had directed this or. I don't know, Sergio Martino, even Luciano Ricoli, like all of them would have had better style. It probably would have been more violent, especially in the case of Sergio Martino. So I just think it in the suspense scenes would have been better if it was Luciano Ricoli.

So I think it's just missing a little something. It's just a fairly sort of let's put this movie out there kind of giallo film. Yeah. And I think you're right with that, man. I definitely. since you put it that way i see it kind of that way because it it's just something that was missed and i'm like okay we got body count we got kills we got this that but something it just still felt a little off i'm not saying i disliked it you know fully

but it was just a little something off. I was sitting there thinking in my head, as I'm watching the movie, I'm thinking, I really enjoy it, but at the same time, I don't. I'm like, I really thought I would like it a lot more.

purchased it i went ahead and bought the code red uh blu-ray of it before we record it because i was like man i want to have this code red and and see and it looks really nice and everything but then i was just watching i'm like something's just missing dude and and now that you put it the way you put it i think 100 right dude i think that's what it was yeah and other thematic aspects to what i did actually find interesting like it's about

the incompetence of authority for one and what they what they can and can't do but also what they suspect and don't suspect like at the very beginning of the movie the commissioner or maybe it's not the commissioner i actually think it's the uh the lawyer i actually think it's um

It's Tranquilles' character who says something like, she's in with the general or whatever. Yeah, yeah. And basically they arrest, like... like pimps gay people and prostitutes and maybe drug addicts i can't remember exactly the demographic all the demographics of people they they arrest but they arrest all these people for questioning and it's like well none of these people are the killer but you just

it because you're supposed to yeah and you have to bring someone in to create some sort of illusion of credibility and that's almost what the film is about is it's about

not being able to catch these people and saying, well, we'll just try to create an excuse for it when really we have nothing. I love the fact that, yes, this is a very thin... a piece of hamburger meat from McDonald's and I was really waiting for a half pound burger from a restaurant that is red robin red robin yes yes absolutely we just had him the other night and uh just something really juicy burger and instead we got a little thin patty as thin as a little sausage patty but but i will

say once again the kills were actually pretty decent on this i love the aspect of you know killing the wives that are let's just call them what it is you know unfaithful and the fact that the killer did take photos now how he would know to follow him around i guess you know i don't know exactly how he would know where to be all the time but but regardless i mean it's still the concept was there

it's just still empty it's still just a little bit empty and when i was really excited man when i saw uh knees navarro or susan scott pop up i always like to see her in film and but in this one i just really wasn't that excited about her Yeah, I mean, she doesn't she doesn't have a whole lot to do here compared to the other films we've seen her in. This is just kind of a film where she kind of just turns up. I mean, there's a lot of people in this that we've seen before.

Trera being another one we saw her in the case of the bloody iris i'd say most notably sylvia koshina has been in stuff like lisa and the devil she was in some peplum films before this she's a little bit older so it makes sense that she He has a bit of a longer list of credits. Chris Avram as the professor. He is in Bay of Blood, among other films. Silvana Tranquilli, we've definitely seen before. I want to say he was in like... black belly the tarantula maybe and some other films like that

There is pretty much an all-star cast here, but I don't know what exactly they're given to do. Farley Granger, I think, does a serviceable job. He seems to be this authority figure that's... sort of troubled. It's not quite as well done as it is with Giancarlo Giannini. in Black Belly of the Tarantula, but it seems like he's a guy who doesn't really like this job and wishes he could spend more time with his wife, but also...

It's one of those, you know, I think he even says later, like, I don't want to work for your father when she even offers that. So it's like one of those things where he's, he's almost like damage if he does damage if he doesn't. He's so deep into this job, even though he doesn't seem to like it.

I do like one scene where they're reviewing all this video footage. And I thought the way he looks, he looks exactly like Joe Spinell in that scene. I don't know if you've got. I totally got it. Yes. Yeah, he does. I wanted to. A little bit of a less rough-looking Joe Spinel. He was a little thinner and definitely a little bit...

Yeah, less, but you could totally see it. Watch the movie, guys and gals, and I'm telling you, Josephinelli from Maniac, or he was in Godfather, he was in Rocky. He's been in a lot of stuff, and you would recognize him from Maniac, clearly, because he's the star.

that but anyways just look at him and then watch this sequence that ian's talking about i'm telling you will see it one million percent i was like is that i literally thought it was joe smith and i'm like well yeah he could have been about that age might have worked but it's just so odd i'm looking up the cast i'm like i don't see him on there maybe he's uncredited but i swear it looked like oh here's the thing

Why is there so many women unfaithful to their husbands in this city or whatever? This town is really a bad town to live in. Here's the issue. Troy Howard talked about this.

it has like this sort of um old-fashioned conservative viewpoint where the women are getting punished but the men are not sure you know what that's and it's it's he compared it to how in the slasher it's like oh women who show their sexuality are always punished usually the men are too uh but it's it is it does have that aspect to it and even the

suspects they're rounding up like it is very much about this bourgeoisie which that word is even mentioned in the film uh being able to get away with anything and not be under suspicion while the lower class people uh that doesn't you know the lower class people in the minorities in this case being women are not allowed to get away with these kind of things whether they're under suspicion or they're being killed by the killer true true uh and i'm looking

if there was let's say we have body count wise there was a car accident mentioned at the beginning of the film and that was uh Two people killed in that one. Anyways, we've got one, two, three. There was a male killed. It was a fall down a step. wasn't really by the killer necessarily so that one i'm gonna call it's an accidental death so we got one two three four five yeah basically five women killed in this no men other than the guy tripping down the steps randomly so

So, yeah, you're right, and Troy's right. I mean, the males really got off on this one, and maybe it's – after the reveal the killer we know why but i don't know man i just really wanted to love this more i will say this the code red blu-ray looks amazing it's really a good print like it looked really nice and the only thing was is no features so really nothing to really dig into on this one

but at least it looked good. Yeah. I kind of wish it would add a commentary with someone, literally any of our experts, uh, Troy Howard, Nathaniel Thompson, uh, any of them really, Cat Ellinger, I wish it would have had some things. I feel like one of those people would have done a really good job with that. Totally. Yeah, it does look great. I mean, again, Code Red, I don't think they're really around anymore, but when they were, they were normally

for really doing great prints of films but not always having really big special features not big amounts of them anyway true and it's okay i mean at least we got a good print of it so i'm okay with that yeah yeah exactly um What else you got on this? The music. I guess we should talk about the music. Great score. I thought it was a great score. That's the...

bright spot of this is definitely Giajorie Gasolini. I thought, or Gasolini, I thought was just a really, really strong score, man, especially the main themed. score going throughout like that that ambience of music going throughout i thought was just great really good yeah i thought it was very memorable specifically the main theme there were some like saxophone and piano moments throughout as well uh this is one that's you know

there was some of the Morricone ones and the Stelvio Cipriani ones among others. Agree. Agree. Acting, did you like the actors though? I mean, I know we've talked a little bit about that, but how do you feel? Did it... match up to what you thought it would match up with acting wise i feel like it was just body count personally but did you feel any of the actors or anything

Not necessarily. Like I said, I think Farley Granger and Tranquilly were the best ones. I think some of these women you don't really get to know very well. I think that that might be... a problem is most of the time you get to know victims at least a little bit more in some of these films and hear

They're literally just unfaithful wives that have a few lines and they're gone for the most part. I do think the best kill sequence was the one with Femi Benuzzi, where she's running along the beach with the slow motion. She's wearing like that.

blue dress yeah yeah yeah good scene um there's mentioned that there is a u.s version hardcore insert in this we don't have that clearly uh but supposedly some scenes where harry rims and kim pope was was filmed in this it was basically a porn uh might be the version you can find on like daily motion and some of those others i don't what's interesting though is that

print is a lot shorter. I don't know. They inserted that and then cut out a bunch of other stuff. That almost turns it into a softcore porn movie. That's the case. Why are you just putting a random two... porn stars into a movie that I don't know. Wasn't Harry Reams also in To All A Good Night? Yes. It's like the pilot. Yeah, I believe he was. Yes, I think you're right. Yeah. Yeah. Well, there you go, Talia. But no, overall, I mean, it's a decent watch. It's just an empty watch.

Will you fully be out of this? No. I think you were into it a little bit, but it just felt like it needed more, and it's substance. It needs more substance. We just don't have enough of that. We got kills. We got mystery. We got all that. It's just empties.

feel of it and it's only 88 minutes long so it's not super long movie so it's not like you know I just wasted two hours of my life and I don't feel that at all but I still felt like I wanted a little more and I think you're right I think it's just we needed more We just needed more, dude. And I know that sounds weak. And you're like, Greg, what do you give me something? We needed more. We needed, I don't want to say explanation, but we just needed more development and just felt.

Like, okay, here's a girl. She's unfaithful. Kill her. Move on. Here's a girl. Kill her. Come on. Give us up. Maybe Troy's right. Maybe he's on to something. Maybe we should have some men dead in here. Maybe we should have had it. Yeah, a little bit more extreme. I don't know. What else you got on this one, bro? Not a whole lot that I can think of. As far as dubbing corner goes, I've actually got a lot of notes for this one.

So Ted Russoff is dubbing Silvano Trinkilly. I'm going to have to navigate these pages, so just bear with me each time for the character names. He's dubbing Silvano Trinkilly as Palo. uh michael forrest is dubbing chris avram as professor kasali which i have a note on that as well there's a part and this this doesn't give anything away it's it's misdirection michael forrest is also dubbing the killer

in the phone call with the inspector at one point when he calls them about the other guy that they arrested. So it's actually pretty good misdirection in a way. Pat Stark is dubbing Annabella and Contrera. Franca Santangeli. She is also dubbing Angela Covello as Bettina Santangeli, the daughter. She puts on a slightly different voice for each one, but it's definitely her voice for each one. Jessica... Dublin.

who plays the medium, I can't, I'm trying to think of her, I'm looking at her character name now, Rosella, who's like the older lady who's the medium, and she's the mother of Kristen L's character, Renata. And Renata is dubbed by... Susan Spafford. Ed Mannix is dubbing... I don't know if I can find his character name right at the moment, but he's dubbing like the commissioner or whoever Farley Granger's bosses that you see in some scenes. He wears glasses. Frank von Kugelen is dubbing.

The man who's with Renata, I don't remember his character name. There are a lot of moving pieces here. It might be Mauro. Paul Oxen is Mauro. yeah i guess i think she even says i'm dying to make love to you morrow or something like that at one point yeah yep no that's all of it i was trying to see it there was a lot of there were a lot of them for this one there were a lot of voices i recognized yeah

Well, cool, but this is a fun watch. I think everybody should check it out. Just go into it knowing, you know, you may feel a little empty at the end of it, but still, you get kills, you get a black glove killer, and then the mystery. I think it's worth a viewing for sure. Would you recommend this for a purchase? Yes, if you're trying to get into like a B-side giallo film or something different from the norm. Otherwise, no, I would just recommend watching it on the Odyssey print.

first agreed and that was a good print so we did pick up or at least i did the code red you already owned it I wasn't disappointed with the purchase. I will probably watch this again for sure. But if you are into Chris Bartoli, talk to old Chris out there. What's up, Chris? You may want to hold up a little bit and buy this a little bit later on because I know you're trying to catch up on some of them.

movies you already bought so don't make this a rush but definitely worth a viewing and i would definitely say a purchase for myself but where do you come in on a rating on this one i'm giving it an eight and that's what i gave it was an eight And I wanted to give it more because, you know, Nev Navarro usually warrants eight by herself, but she just wasn't in it enough. So there you go. Bam. So let's move on. And we're going to go to our last movie of the night.

Once again, going to 1975 this time and we're going to a movie called, it's called Footprints. AKA Footprints on the Moon. Let's hopefully have a trailer right now. Why am I here? Why did I come to Gama? To this strange town I know I was never in before. Your pin says Alice. My name is Alice. That's not true. Look. It looks like blood. What was I doing for those three days? Why can't I remember a single thing about them?

It's all those tranquilizers you take. You probably took a larger dose than usual and slept right through to this morning. I saw you on the beach I think one day this week. Was it Tuesday? Are you sure it was me? No, I didn't see you at all on Tuesday. Alice. I know you can hear me. Open the door. Are you sure that I am Nicole? No. You're much nicer than Nicole was. That's them. They're coming. Go away.

Whose is this wig? If it's mine, why did I buy it? Perhaps because I didn't want someone to recognize me. But who? Why do I seem to know this strange hotel? And yet I'm sure I've never been here before. I can't have been asleep all that time. It couldn't have been just a dream. You're lying! I didn't see anything! Try to remember! You're hurting me!

You shouted someone's name! What name? I was waiting for you. I had a feeling you'd come. You didn't just happen to be positive. Why am I so frightened? If I've been here before, what did I do? And if I ran away, why have I come back? Why did I buy these scissors? Did you find him then? Who? Your friend. What friend? Your friend Harry. Who told you I had a friend named Harry?

And we'll head over to you, Ian. What's the plot synopsis for Footprints? Okay, so I'm just taking this from the Severin Blu-ray. In the most criminally underseen giallo of the 70s, Florinda Balkin stars as a freelance translator who wakes one morning missing all memory of her past three days. But will a trail of odd clues lead her to a place where perception and identity are never what they seem? Also starring Nicoletta Elmi, Evelyn Stewart.

Lita Kudrova and Klaus Kinski in this visually stunning gem, also known as Footprints on the Moon, directed by Luigi Bozzoni with cinematography by three-time Oscar winner Vittorio Storaro, now scanned in 4K from... the original camera negative nice uh so let's get into this one i do own the blu-ray as well from severin just picked it up as well had heard a lot of things about this the star and florinda balkan brazilian actress and

The one thing I had done was, I don't know if you watch the Italian or the English version. You get both versions if you buy the Blu-ray from Seven, which I thought was excellent. I did watch the U.S. version, and I did watch the intro. I don't know if you did that. I watched both because the commentary was on the Italian cut. Okay, I got you. I did like the intro, which was from an author who wrote a book.

And she mentioned this movie, of course. And she's right. This is a beautiful movie. It's shot beautifully. Is this my cup of tea? really but we'll get into it and i'm not saying it's a little slow even for me it's really slow and i don't mind slow movies guys i'm a 24 aficionado. I love A24 films and they are notoriously known for being slow films. So I don't mind slow films. I just like slow films that I get. And this movie had me

You know, just a little off on the whole movie. Even Pearl's watching this with me, and she's figuring it out as we're watching. Like, okay, what are they talking about? Because we've got an opening sequence where we got a black-and-white shot of Klaus Kinski. Well, first we see two astronauts.

And we see one dragging an astronaut over to a rock on the moon and then leaving them. I'm like, holy crap, what am I watching? Is this a JALO? I'm like, what is this, 2021 Space Odyssey? What am I watching? Or 2001 Space Odyssey? I didn't know what I was watching in. It was just a strange sequence. And it's black and white. And then we go to color and we get what we got.

So it takes a while. This one is going to have minor spoilers, listeners, because there's no way to talk about this movie without spoiling some of it. I'm going to be honest. I'm going to go ahead and put that out front so we can hit some spoiler activity in this movie because it just warrants it. There's no way not to. So we're watching this movie and we're following the eyes or following the life of this young lady.

And here's the deal, like as we're following and it's Alice Sespi and it's played by Florenda Balkan and she is playing a character. What is she? She's a reporter or she's some kind of. she's like so when she's a translator so basically this is a thing Back then where I don't know how much it is now, but like you would have a translator do the speech into like the news cast of something.

Like you still see it now, like when someone like, for example, I think it was a thing when Vladimir Zelensky was giving speeches and you'd see it on the American news, there'd be like a person translating for them. And if it's a live speech, they.

also needs someone for that so that's what she's doing yeah yeah totally so we're following her and what happens is is uh she goes into work and the boss or not the boss but the i guess the girl under the boss is saying that the bosses left and you know did you know your report was supposed to be done such and such and she says what day she'd lost two days basically so and she don't know where she's like I went to sleep woke up now thought it was exact so

We trace the whole movie. We're tracing her last couple days. And there's a clue at the beginning with a postcard that's ripped up. And she looks at it and it's a... a postcard and it's a hotel garba garma i think it's called garma So she goes and she finally realizes, you know, I need to go find Garmin. She goes to Garmin and we're following this whole trail in and I'm like, okay, let's get into this. But there's really nothing going on through the whole movie to really.

entertain enough you know what i mean it's it's really it's a mind twisted movie this is like watching 2001 space odyssey if you were really really on acid and you're just you're sitting back 2001 space odyssey great movie i love the movie but it is super slow i mean it is super slow this movie's even slower did you get i mean do you feel it's that slow or am i just talking out my ears um It is a little slow. It's obviously shorter than 2001. It's just one of those things where the film is so...

is so rooted in psychological rather than in action, right? There's not really... a whole lot happening it's more just things that are developing and things you find out and like look if you compare it to house with the laughing windows that's that's an apt comparison but the house of the laughing windows all

It also just has, to me, a better atmosphere. That movie has a scarier atmosphere. Whereas this movie, you watch this and it's more... okay things are getting revealed but it's not necessarily it's it's it's more of like it's more of like okay it's breadcrumbs rather than something that's really shocking you yeah

Yeah, because, I mean, we don't get a body count. Well, we got one person in this movie other than the astronaut. So basically two people. And did the astronaut really happen? Is this a mental? I don't know. But... So there's not a body count to really drive this movie. We got her showing up in Garmin. We got this red-headed little girl that we all recognize in. We've seen her in lots of stuff.

But she is kind of directing her like, oh, I know who you are. You're so-and-so. No, I'm Alice. No, you're not. And she starts tracing. places that this girl says she has been and she shows up and everybody's like oh i remember you yeah blah blah you had this wig let me put it on and just lots of clues are popping up so she's starting to realize i had to be here

You know, clearly I was here or somebody that looked like me was here. So in the movie, is she got a doppelganger or is she had been there and been memory lost? What's going on? And by the end of the movie, I'm still scratching my head thinking, okay, we get the reveal.

I'm like, I still, I still scratch my head. Like, okay, I want more, man. I'm at the end of this movie. I'm like, okay, all right. This is, it was shot. Great. It was a. beautifully shot movie i thought the score was okay i thought you know there's things about the movie that i really enjoy but it's empty dude this is an empty movie like i just did not get much going on in yeah i mean i'm

I am with you on that. I mean, some of the reveals are kind of interesting as it goes on, like her going to, you know, the hairdresser and be like, oh, you had the makeup on in this red wig a couple of days ago. You know, her getting the scissors, the thing with the. earring like the actually the earring i actually thought was a pretty cool i love i reveal when that comes up it's just in between some of that stuff there's not a whole lot happening visually it's amazing i mean vittorio storaro

If you wanted to find the word widescreen and see how it's used in a film, this is a great example. All the shots of this area in Turkey where they were filming, the wide shots with the low zoom all look amazing. like they just basically look like a painting some of the shadows he does some of the shots near that peacock fresco that you see throughout mostly toward the end are also amazing like visually it's amazing there's a ton of stills you could take from this movie

That would look amazing. But substance wise, there's not quite as much there. Agreed. There is a beautiful shot of.

Felicia Balkin's character she's out on the ocean or I don't know if it's the ocean but it's water and then there's a shot of a little island i thought it was beautiful i even told pearl man i was like that's picturesque right there i just really so you're right i mean there's those moments just beautiful shot the peacock window you're right looks great uh the inside the cathedral part looked or the whatever

is looks great so there are moments i feel like the director luigi bozzoni maybe he was going for style over substance like he really showed and the cinematographer absolutely i agree you know showed They got the talent, but I just think that screenplay-wise, like... mario finale and luigi bizoni they both should have like really put more effort into the story because it looks beautiful i will agree it looks great now i think

you know, Balkan done a really good job of acting. I thought her performance was really well of watching her unravel and we're seeing her mentally unravel. So I did appreciate that. I just needed more. of a movie i just needed more you know yeah again i'm i'm with you and i think it's one of those things where i wish i just wish there were a little bit more going on like

You could have had, you know, some like even the house with the laughing windows again, comparing it to that. It did have like some kills going on beforehand. Like there was just a feeling of dread in that movie, a feeling of doom. This just doesn't really quite happen. have that um and if you compare it to the possessed which is bozoni's other film it's kind of similar to that right you've got someone an outsider going to this area this sort of provincial area and

they may or may not be an unreliable narrator of sorts. But that film, I did, you know, that film, there was more to follow in there and there was more of an atmosphere to that film than there is in this one. Now... uh psychologically though i do like this film what i kind of like about it is it kind of reminds me a bit of

You know, it reminds me a little bit of like, OK, if you have like a really bad drug trip or something and you're trying to retrace your steps from the last couple of days or heck alcoholism, that would even work, too. But also anxiety, right? there's there there is something to do with this this nightmare she keeps having and at the end you're like you're not sure if it's real or not and i think anxiety can kind of sometimes be like that where you worry about things

And you may think forever and ever that they could end up being real. Most of the time they're not. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't occasionally happen where you worry about something so much and it does end up being somewhat true. Because at the end of the film, you're not entirely sure. sure you're not entirely sure what's going on i mean it's still really kind of kind of a mystery i mean what who are these people that are after her you don't really know it's like

Or if they're even after her at all, how much of it is in her head? Because the problem is the film ends and there really isn't too much of a resolution, at least to me. No, there's zero to me. And here's the thing, like the... The astronaut thing going on with Klaus Kinski, and we know that's clearly an experiment because he keeps talking about an experiment. And, you know, and then there's moments of, you know, we got to get her and all these things. So in my mind, you know, through the movie.

i'm watching i'm like okay so klaus kinski has put this woman she almost like the episode of twilight zone when they had the one guy that was in the chamber but he thought he was out you know in real life but he ended up being in a chamber and they were putting him through pressure I felt like maybe they were doing that in this movie so I'm watching it thinking okay she's probably in a chamber somewhere and they're making her go through

aspects of certain scenes to see if she can break or if she will break or not. But then we realized that's not it. So the Klaus Kinski thing really ended up not really revealing anything or playing out. So I was like, okay, is this just to get Klaus Kinski in a movie? I don't know. It just, it was off. for that putting of a thing this movie is a do you consider it sci-fi because that's what like mill creek puts it on a 50 pack of invasion sci-fi invasion films

Yeah, I think they released it in another title. I mean... Primal impulse. I guess if you want to say the stuff in space and everything related to it is with aliens, I don't know. I don't know how you could call it. I don't know. I don't really know the justification. of that i mean i think they i think there are some interesting things like when she's going around to all these different people

In the area and be like, oh, you were here, you know, doing this or we have this for you. Some of that is interesting. Yeah. The stuff in Nicoletta Elmi is kind of interesting, too. Sure. It's funny.

I know we were talking about spoilers, so I almost thought I had remembered this film as Nicoletta Elmay being like a child version of her character, which... would not make any sense whatsoever in terms of their appearances but i almost feel like i remembered that for some reason and then when it wasn't there i was like oh i guess that's not the case i mean like i said would not make any sense i don't know how a freckle

redheaded girl to turn into a dark-skinned Brazilian woman. But still, for some reason, I thought I had remembered it that way, but I guess that's not the case. And then at the end... So with Harry or Henry, is it supposed to be some kind of like repressed sexual trauma or something that's going on there? I don't really know.

It could be. Here's my thought of that. Was that character, you were on to something because even Pearl and I were thinking as we were watching it that she was basically the little red-headed girl was her and Henry was... the boy in the movie, you know, that we see a scene with the boy. So I was like, well, maybe, you know, this is her seeing her as a young.

I don't know. I mean, I don't know what the interpretation is supposed to be, honestly, even now. I just, to me, I thought and felt that, that maybe once she revealed that the girl was actually, Pearl even thought maybe she was dead and she was in a...

You know, in an alternate universe type, not alternate universe, but like you're seeing through the eyes of her, she's dead, but she's being guided through with this little girl, which was her young. I don't know. I just really honestly don't know. I don't know the Henry character, what his, where it, I don't know.

i just don't know and it's just like oh ian i don't know i still don't know i need somebody to explain this to me part of the issue is i like where the movie ends up going with the reveals in a way like i but the problem is what do those reveals do at the end like like i said there just doesn't seem to be a whole lot of resolution like it's like okay you find out that she's been in this place for two days or she was there two days ago and that she's actually this different woman

But what do we know at the end? I don't really feel like we know anything. We don't. That's the issue. We don't. Mary, we had Adagali in here. We got to. Yeah. We got a vision. Oh, yeah. I mean, we know her from The Case of Scorpion's Tale, Bloodstained Butterfly, Knife of Ice. We know her. So that was interesting. We saw Mary, and there's out of galley. Okay, so we got her in it. We don't have a lot of characters in this movie.

honestly it's not a full cast there's no body count minus one person so we don't have a body count uh is the jalo there and i never saw jmb bottle we do have cigarette smoke but that's in every italian film but I don't know that this hits shallow for me. I don't, I don't think it does. Well, I mean, you know, we've talked before about what the genre is and what it, you know, what it can extend to.

Specifically, a lot of those Umberto Lenzi films with low body counts that were mostly about sort of a domestic dispute of sorts between a few different people. Right. you could say is like a psychedelic psychological thriller. Um, at best, if you want to throw it into the genre, like one of those,

One of those paranoid thrillers, almost like Fragment of Fear, the David Hemmings movie. There are others I could use as an example. Blow Up might be a good example as well. Another David Hemmings movie. But it falls within that a little bit. I just don't think it necessarily has the thrills necessary to be...

To be seen as such, to be classified as such, yes, but to be personified as it, maybe not. Yeah. Would you consider this to be a... and i'm saying loosely this would not be a comparison but i'm gonna compare it here would this be maybe a lynch to a cronenbergish type film Yeah, I could certainly see that. I thought of Eraserhead when I was watching this.

I thought of some movies like that for some reason that just really, and there's another movie I just watched, which is a 1991 film, 964 Pinocchio. Holy crap, if you've never seen that movie. What a freaking eraser head movie. That's off subject, but anyways. I have not, but I am interested in it. That's a 1991 movie, isn't it? It's a 1991. I think it's on Tubi. wow, is that movie by the end of it? I'm not saying it's a good movie at all, but I'm just saying it is so freaking weird.

gooey and vomit and just all kinds of weird stuff going on this is a very weird very little talking in the movie but it felt very eraser head but i just felt like Back to this movie, I felt like this one had a little bit of a Lynch or a Cronenberg feel. It's beautifully shot. It's got the elements.

The difference is Cronenberg and Lynch typically give us a little bit more. This one just left me feeling like, and maybe that's what it's for. It's interpretation. Leaving it up, you decide, and you go with it. But I wanted a little bit more ability, and I just didn't get it. I still don't get it.

But beautifully shot. Music, what did you think of the score? Still a really good score. I don't know. Well, it might be on par with So Sweet So Dead. It was a really good score. There's a lot of good organ stuff, if I remember correctly. It is, and it's Nicola Piavani. All right, now he's done Life is Beautiful from 1997, which is a good score. But he's done some films that...

You know, or good films. So, you know, he definitely gives us something in this movie. Is it one that I would buy the soundtrack and I would be playing, you know, on the vinyl or whatever? No, but I think it's serviced well enough for the movie. But it's just another movie that just really, I needed more. I really need to, and I didn't listen to the commentary. How did the commentary, was there any reveals in the commentary? Um, chat.

will sometimes do like she'll analyze the film I don't know how much she reveals stuff that you may not expect I thought it was an interesting commentary she she normally will talk about like how the movie fits into the history of the giallo genre a lot and how the actress fits into it that's usually her style i thought it was uh fine i don't know if there was

too much I took away from it but she talked about how the movie was kind of about urban isolation and the desperation that provoked that was a quote I had written down the fragmented nature of modern life and attachment. She does. She, you know, she says some interesting things for sure. okay uh overall man it just uh do you got anything on uh let me just say this do you have anything on the um dubbing yes uh the only one i got even though i it's weird i

I swear, I recognize the voice of the guy who plays Harry. I just cannot put a name to it. But I've heard that voice a hundred times. Unfortunately, I just can't put a name to it. But Michael Forrest is dubbing Klaus. Kinski. Do we ever have a movie where Klaus actually uses his voice?

I don't think there were many Italian films that he did, specifically in English dubs, and I don't know if he did it in Italian either. He might have just been one of those people who played his role and then walked off and did something. I mean, he does dub his own voice in plenty of English language films, but I don't think there are any giallos or... spaghetti westerns that he dubbed his own voice in, as far as I know. Even though he was in, like...

So many spaghetti westerns, like 20 or 30 of them. What in the world? I want to see, and I wish we could have had it back then. I would have liked to have seen the movie of... the moon sequence i want to know what was going on there i would have loved

that to have been a movie and i would have been all into that let's why is the astronaut on the moon why are we leaving this guy who we think oh yeah like the stranded astronaut that's like a scary thing like being stranded in space like that's a that's like one of the

scariest possible thoughts. There's a song I love by a sort of progressive metal band called Mastodon. I don't know if you've heard of them. Called Oblivion. And the song is literally about... uh that as a premise like someone just being stuck in space wow how about it's just that's such a scary idea because you're so isolated there's nothing around you like you're just gonna die of starvation probably like it's not

It's not exactly the most, you know, what you may call endearing possibility. What about David Bowie's Space Oddity? I mean, those songs, you know. Major Tom. Well, what a song. Listen to that song. Oh, yeah, yeah. Ground Control to Major Tom, yeah. Yes.

So that I would have loved to see because it's so beautifully shot in this movie. And we see the guy. At least you think he's dead. I thought he was dead. And I thought he was leaving them. And then you start seeing an eye flicker. And then you see the spaceship. you know taken off and then you see the guy's eyes open and all he sees is the spaceship flight oh my god that is nightmare fuel dude for real

Holy crap, dude. I think I'd have just jumped up and tried to fly to the shuttle and see if I could catch on. I would have done something, so I'd just lay there. Just a quick aside. Do you think we actually landed on the moon? Personally, I do. Yeah, so do I. I'm not one for conspiracy theories. I think we did. I just feel like the technology was definitely there and it's still there. I don't know. The problem is, and I've talked about this before, is...

We really haven't done much since. How much space exploration have we really done since then? I don't know, but we need to do more of what's in this movie. Yeah, I just don't... You know, NASA has all this money and everything. It's one of the things I wrote about. Well, actually, I don't even know if I ever reviewed Dark Star, but my idea for that, like that film.

is almost about how dismal space exploration is. That movie makes it seem so not fun and boring. And it almost is relatable in a way to how we have not done almost any space exploration.

really whatsoever with nasa spending all this money on satellites and other stuff since we landed on the moon like there really has not been anything we've done although is there really anything we can do with the surface of those planets and what you know how habitable they are i'm not sure but it just is one of those things where it's like have we really done anything i'm sure there's some scientists out there it's a

We'll say, oh, we've done a lot, but I'm sitting here like, well, I don't know. We haven't really explored any planet or been on any other one. So until that happens, I'm saying we really haven't done much. Until we see a Walmart on the moon. I mean, have we done anything? I don't know. Yeah, you can watch the movie, and I don't want to go off on a tangent on this kind of stuff forever, the movie Ad Astra.

uh, with Brad Pitt, which I really enjoyed their shootouts on the moon in that movie. Like that, that stuff is awesome. Footprints on the moon. Do you like the name footprints or do you like the name footprints on the moon?

Footprints on the Moon, I think, is better. I do, too. I agree. There's even footprints going down the sand. Footprints sound so generic. But then again, this movie's kind of... yeah whatever so did you like the part where they were building the sandcastle and she's like that's not a drawbridge yes and that i thought was pretty funny that was cute

I did not watch the Italian cut. I did watch the US cut. We do have the Severn. It's a two-disc set, which has some interviews and the commentaries on the Italian cut, so I will eventually watch that. And I do want to see this movie again. I'm not... knocking the movie so bad to say that this is a horrible movie i'm actually glad i do own it i think it's beautifully shot and i will go back and revisit this i do hate the one uh

picture i think it's on is it wikipedia i believe it is there's on one of them they have a poster uh it's not wikipedia it's one of these they have a poster and they actually reveal a kill in the middle in the movie which was ridiculous Seek it out and unravel its mystery. Moon in the gutter. That was a thing on the back of the Blu-ray box. But what do you got on a closing on this movie before we go to our outro or to our ratings?

You know, I think I've said most of what I wanted to say. I do wonder if it's a film that I may have like a different sort of outlook or view on after I watch it again. Like it might just be a film where if I watch it every. two or three years or so i might have a different feeling on and i'm not sure i mean i i think i remember liking it slightly more than this viewing but i could be wrong

And psychologically and everything, I think it's interesting. And Vittorio Storaro's cinematography is enough on its own to give it a watch. I mean, every every image, you know, pretty much every image, every sort of long wide shot is like.

beautiful painting. Agreed. And I will use that to say I recommend a purchase on this. And the Severn Blu-ray looks phenomenal. It looks really good. So I would give it a... a watch for that uh to go to a rating i'm gonna come in i was a six i may jump it to a six five just because of the cinematography and i do have aspects of this movie i do like the astronaut section of it even though it's very minimal but uh six i'm gonna go six five on it and uh where you come in on this one

I'm going to be a little higher than you are. I'm going to go with 7.5. I think it would have been even higher than that, like I said a couple of viewings ago. I think if you're kind of in the right mood for a sort of trippy thriller, this might work for you. it's just I just wish there were more maybe not more of an explanation at the end but just more of like an understanding of what's going on more of a way to interpret it I guess

There you go. And how many times have you seen this one? Three, I think. Okay, so that warrants me... To definitely watch again. This was my first time viewing. And I'm at a 6.5. So I could certainly probably go up with future viewing. So that's cool that you've seen it that many times. That makes me feel a little. Not that I don't feel a little bit better. Because you're still feeling the same way. I'm about to confusion, but maybe rewatch again really soon will help open up some things for me.

But there it is, listeners. That is our movies for the night. Once again, So Sweet, So Dead from 1972 as well as 1975's Footprints or Footprints on the Moon. Ian, let the listeners know what are we reviewing on the next episode. okay so for vinegar syndromes forgotten gialli volume one we are reviewing trauma which is a spanish film and the killer is one of 13 uh trauma

You can find what looks like a very good print on Internet Archive, which should not be too difficult to find. If you just search trauma 1978 full movie, it's the first thing that comes up. I'll post a link to it on the group. And the killer. 1 of 13 you can find on Tubi I'm not entirely sure it might be an edited version I don't know. I don't mean edited as in length. I think I mean more centered, like maybe the nudity and stuff might be.

but I'm not entirely sure, but it is on there. I don't know if there's a whole lot of other options. I was checking the Giallo Realm page, and I couldn't find anything, so that might be your only option for now, other than buying the set. We do need to make the emphasis on trauma. Now, this is not the Argento trauma. This is Leon.

uh kill Mavosky so it's 1978 trauma do not watch well watch Argento trauma if you like because it's you know you can watch that because it's Argento but that's not the movie we're reviewing we're reviewing trauma from 1978. Once again, Leon Kilmavosky is the director of that. I think he worked a lot with Paul Nasche.

As well. I think he's, he directed several of Paul Massey's films. What do I remember? Sweet. So that and police are blundering in the dark. These will be first time watches. I cannot wait. If you want to pick up. uh the sets you can buy them on amazon vinegar syndrome is going to have a sale going on for valentine's day maybe it'll be a good sale but they do these forgotten jally sets that are three movies on each set and they're

Hey, most of these I've never seen. We'll get into some other ones later on. Hopefully Ian and I will be able to get up all these. I think they're up to volume seven, if I'm not mistaken. Ian and I have got the first two volumes, so we'll be getting those. And then hopefully we'll get some more in the future. Just for clarification, I think we're doing Trauma and the Killer as well.

to 13, or at least that's what I said. Oh, I'm sorry. The order from left to right on the cover as police are blundering in the dark in the middle. But the middle on the vinegar syndrome page is the killer is one of 13. So I was looking at that. So we'll go with the killer is one of 13. And then we'll do police are blundering in the dark and probably something from volume two on the episode after. OK, there you go.

So let me reword that. So Trauma, Trauma from 1978. And then The Killer is one of 13. That is the two movies. And then we'll get into other. Maybe the next two we'll do. Maybe police are blundering in the dark, and maybe the French sex murders kind of read something police-y. So we'll see. We'll think of that later. But anyways, if you want to buy these volumes, go to Amazon. Go to Vinegar Syndrome. Go to Diabolic DVD. They're available if you want to purchase these movies. I recommend them.

check them out we'll get into these and hopefully we'll get some more sets and we'll maybe do a bunch of these hopefully get all seven i'd love to have all seven volumes they get pricey once they get up to five six and seven because they're new so we'll have to wait for some good sales but

So, Ian, what you got in closing for this episode, my friend? It was fun to do two different Giallo movies that were, I'd say, completely different. As I said earlier, I'm really looking forward to seeing some of those.

movies uh this week at the theater hopefully they keep doing some of these revival screenings and fathom events near me that would be really fun uh you can find me on twitter and instagram and blue sky at urzanomics you can add me on facebook and you can add me on letterboxd where i try to do reviews of most of the movies i

uh, watch, uh, in the moment. Nice. Check out all these. You can go to land, the creature dot blog, spot.com. Look at the show notes and you will see all Ian's notes there that you can follow them on. I recommend doing that. Uh, so for us,

Just hang on because we're going to have Mortis Vision coming up. We're doing our Valentine's special. And we're going to be doing a giveaway. So we got that giveaway coming up. So that's coming up next on the episode. So with that said, as Ian and I like to say, get your jally on. Bye. LOTC presents Mortis Vision with Greg Amortis and the Twisted Tentris. Welcome to Mortis Vision with the Mortises. I'm Greg Amortis along with...

The Twisted Temptress. That's right, the love of my life. Hello, love. Hey. Episode 414, Double Double 55. More importantly... Happy Valentine's. That's right. Happy Valentine's Day to each and every one of you out there, especially the love of my life. Love my wife. Hey, babe. I got you, babe. I got you, babe. Well, I love you, too. Well, good. So we're excited. We're going to be talking a couple made-for-TV movies tonight. Yep.

And we got some voicemails because we're doing the Valentine goodie bag contest. The Valentine goodie bag contest. And we're only going to give away one winner. Mm-hmm. And we've got how many calls? Six or seven. Six or seven. We've got them wrote down, so we'll write everybody's name down. And at the end of this episode, we will do our drawing. And whoever is drawn out will win the goodie bag.

So that'll be announced Friday as we're recording. This is actually, what is this, Wednesday? No, it's Tuesday. Tuesday night, the 11th. Tuesday night.

yep it's the 11th uh so we're super excited we just got through uh ian and i just got through a black glove and now we're here doing this and we're super excited so pearl i think what we will do is once again saying happy valentine's day and it's a day of love but i think every day should be a day of love definitely show love to the world every day that's right let's don't let's don't make a a

a corporation tell us when our day of love is, right? We shouldn't have the congoblin of, you know, the masses say, oh, you got to celebrate Valentine's Day. That's a love day. No, every day should be love day. It's for the love of horror as well. Let's make it Valoween. Valoween. There you go. I like it. So that should be a new holiday. Valoween for all us horror fans instead of Valentine's Day. I love it.

Not many Valentine horror films, but we do have My Bloody Valentine. Mm-hmm. My Bloody Valentine remake. Yep. Valentine's. What was that? True. That's a good one. And now we got Hard Eyes. Yes. Love Hard Eyes. We had a great time with that. If you haven't seen it, get to the theater, watch it.

Go into it knowing there's some comedy in it. So it's a comedy horror. If you don't like comedy and horror, you probably are going to be off on this one. But if you're okay with comedy and horror, I think it's just a really great slasher film. Man, I had a lot of fun with that one, Pearl. Cool.

be added to our to watch list every year i think i think that's definitely going to be one i can watch multiple times yeah but uh we are going to be like i said we're going to look at two made for tv movies tonight we're not going to go scene for scene. We're not going to break down every part of these movies, but we'll give you kind of a rough little take on it, right? Yeah. One of them we're doing because of the fact...

Not only it's a made for TV movie, but it's also a 1991 made for TV movie, which is special because we're doing. LOTC's top five in 1991. There you go. So it just happened to be that year, which is why we watched that one. And then we're doing one from 1973. That's right, 1973. So the movies we're going to talk about tonight will be Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, and we're going to be talking about The Haunted from 1991. So that's the two movies we'll talk about. We'll play these voicemails.

uh in between each uh mini review and and then we'll go from there and see what else this probably won't be a super long one We're still both under the weather, but we'll try to do what we can do and make this happen. Man, I got a sinus infection from hell, guys. Four weeks of this shit.

you what you're saying that's me with my cough yeah exactly so bear with us but doctor gave me antibiotic today so hopefully this thing will knock out finally good lord yay because this four weeks of brutal brutality uh but that's okay we're managing but Anyway, so we're going to do these. We'll do them in chronological order, Pearl. So I think we'll start with the 1973 Don't Be Afraid of the Doc. And what we'll do is we'll do a trailer right now. I want to do a trailer.

Okay. Maybe I can even find a kind of like the bumper trailer too in this if I can find it. I'm hoping I can find this because this aired October 10th. 1973 on ABC. So maybe I can find a little ABC Wednesday night movie of the week or something. And if we can't, then maybe you can do that voice thing you do. In a world. We'll see. But either way, we'll put something right.

here kim darby has inherited this house from her grandmother but the house has some secrets what's this it's uh for cleaning out the ashes It's been bolted shut. By me. And that's the way it should stay. I think they're visitors. Visitors? Mice. I thought I saw something in the kitchen. It was something like this. Little ferocious animal grabbed at my dress. We want you, Sally. We want you. We want you. We want you. We want you. Don't be afraid of the dark.

All right, Pearls, let's get into it. Let's talk some 1973. There's something special about this movie anyway, so talk about that for a minute before we get into the movie. Let's let the listeners pull back the curtain, love. Why don't be afraid of the dark? I won't say it's... this show like that i know i was i don't remember exactly i know so year old when this movie

came out on TV because it was made a year before I was born. How do I put this? My childhood was a weird childhood. There were things that were unexplainable in my childhood. Seeing this movie made me feel like WTH. I was like, am I seeing this for real in this movie? Because the reason it stuck with me because it was like creatures. Little creatures like chasing this woman.

and long story short it's just some things you shouldn't see as a child that you don't know if did you really see it or did you not and that's what i'm at and that's where i went And I've been looking for this movie forever. Right. Could not find it. We had Darren on Mortis Vision. Darren from Northern California. And right out of the blue, he's like, oh, this sounds like this.

This movie. Look it up. I'm like, I'm not sure yet. Even looking at the picture, still not sure. Well, we finally watched it today. I purchased it. I bought the Blu-ray. Blind by because thinking it may be the movie. And it was. So a young couple inherits an old mansion inhabited by small demon-like creatures who are determined to make the wife one of their own. And this was it, right? Yep.

See? It was it. So thank you, Darren, and thank you, Greg, for buying the movie. See, thank you, Darren, for mentioning it, and thank me and Pearl for buying it for each other, right? So we did watch it tonight. It was on Blu-ray. It was a Warner Archive release. So let's break into this a little bit. This movie released Wednesday, October 10th, 1973. So let's go to TV Guide. Let's go to the...

primetime network TV list. And let's see what it was up against Pearl on Wednesday, October 10th, 1973 on CBS at eight o'clock, the Sonny and Cher comedy hour. Show number 48 was on. And that's season three, episode five with Jack Palance, Ed McMahon. Songs include Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree and Honky Tonk Woman. Oh, God. Honky Tonk Woman. There you go. So anyway, so that was the CBS 8 o'clock hour. And then at 9 o'clock was Cannon. Murder by...

proxy, murder by proxy cannon. So that was what was up against it on CBS. On NBC, we had Adam 12 Venice decision. That came on at eight o'clock, Pearl. Adam 12 Venice division. And that was season six, episode five. And that one had, uh, yeah, a bunch of people. So officer officers Malloy. Malloy and Reed refuse to be duped by a press agent who parades his lovely client nude on the beach. So that was from the 8 o'clock to 8.30 hour. And then at 8.30, we got Tenafly.

Joyride to Nowhere. Now, what is that? That's season one, episode one. I have no clue. I have never heard of Tenafly. Joyride to Nowhere, Pearl. I don't think I have either. But it starred Pat O'Brien, Tom Bosley. Ross Martin, Michael Bell, Henry Brown, Tina Andrews. Yeah, a bunch of people I don't know, but it's a dramatic series about a Los Angeles private detective and his family with emphasis on his home life, James McEachin.

Stars in a title role in the first story, Tenafly poses as a taxi driver in an effort to find out who is robbing and terrorizing cab drivers. So that's what NBC had up against this movie. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, which came on at 8.30 to 10 o'clock on ABC. So there you go. So that's what was on that night. So let's look at it, Perlis.

Look at it a little bit. We're not going to break this thing down scene by scene by any means, but let's just briefly talk about it. I think watching the movie, the creatures that are in this movie remind me of a couple things. What? One is the gate. Anybody knows the movie, the gate love that movie. And we know those little minions, right? So they kind of reminded me of those along with maybe some of the puppet master, uh, puppets.

But these creatures, what would you call them? They had these weird mask-looking heads. And they're tiny. They're not super large. These are, what would you say, a foot, maybe two foot tall at the most? There's like three of them at one time. They're running around. They're minions or whatever you want to call them. And what are they out for, Pearl? They want her mind. They want her soul.

Right? They want Sally's mind. Yeah, they want her. And Sally, we don't know much about Sally, right? The movie just basically has a husband and wife and he's a go-getter. travels because of his business and she basically almost pulled his arm off to get that house. Yeah, and he's got a lot of money, obviously.

They're putting money into this house, and there's some things with this house. And there's a caretaker, a guy that, you know, there's a fireplace in a study, which used to be the grandpa or something. Yes. It's blocked. He's put a bolt on.

the ash he's cemented with bricks the fireplace and then he bolted like the opening to put the yep you know and she goes down there and it's like oh i could use this for whatever you know and he he warns her some things are better just to leave alone or whatever right just leave it alone but what does she do

Curiosity. Curiosity kills the cat. She opens it up, and then that's when the minions come out, and they wreak havoc. They're trying to get her through the whole movie. Not bad. I can see. I can totally 1 million percent see why you were creeped out.

go in this watching this if you're obviously put yourself in my position i'm like freaking three or four years old maybe maybe even five depending on when exactly the first time i watch this you don't seen nothing for quite a while you're mostly hearing voices but something's calling you something knows your name yeah and and mind you watch this movie it is

It's a beautiful house with a lot of windows. But for some reason, it's dark half of the time. I kept telling you through, why do they not cut lights on? I kept telling you through the whole movie. They spent all their money on restoring that they didn't pay the gas bill. I don't know. I guess. I mean, some of the ugliest wallpaper, but it's 1973, so this was hip. I guarantee you this house was...

The fly McFly of houses on that street. I guarantee you people walked in the house and said, this shit's tight. You know, we got last night of the devil. This was the first night of the devil. Yeah. Like, dude, you walked in this house. They got, every room's got different color wallpaper and it's all weird looking. Oh, the dress. Who remembers 1970s? Everybody does here that are of the age and we all.

Remember the shag carpets and the funky wallpaper and just the weird greens and reds. And like Pearl said, she's wearing this dress. It looks like a curtain and her friend's got like a curtain skirt on. Orange square pattern kind of. Oh, I love the 70s. But it's just the movie. The whole movie is just basically her losing her mind because she's trying to let her husband know.

That there's someone in the house, there's something in the house, right? Yep. And he doesn't believe her, of course. Of course not. Nobody believes her. Well, I think her friend somewhat did. But at the same time, she didn't see it. But she was starting to pick up on it and say there is definitely something going wrong. And by the end of the movie, she definitely knows something's wrong.

I will totally agree with you. This is a creepy movie. Like I will say, this is creepy. Even watching it today, it's a made-for-TV movie, so there's no gore, there's no murder, there's none of that, right? There is a death, but... It's still creepy. I mean, the things that they got away with on TV in 73, this would have been freaky as a 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 year old kid watching it. I would have been freaked out. Yeah, now that I'm thinking about it, their little faces, even though they look like...

something that came from Alaska or something. That one's like a pumpkin head. Like a pumpkin? I actually look at the eyes now that I'm seeing it again. It makes me think of the gremlin from... The plane with William Shatner. Yeah, I could kind of see that. Yeah, they kind of have that long, weird eye-to-beholder face. Yeah, they're kind of pointed. There's three of them, and they each have their own kind of own face. Yeah. But they're hellions, right? They commit murder.

They do everything because they want her. And there's always the whispering going on. I want to get her. I want to get you. I want to get her. It's open. The door is open. Let's get out. You know, that's creepy, dude. That's freaking creepy. And I liked it. And the fact that the... Whole freaking house is dark all the time. It adds to the mood for sure. And they were smart. And they're smarter than even the people because they use hangers to turn off the light.

They were just doing different things, and one was covering his eyes because of candlelight. You know what? I appreciate it out of it, and I don't know because... I don't know how much of the, the filming of this, like the effects were what they were. I will say this. I think honestly that they were using.

full-bodied people and they were making things look tiny to them you know what i mean camera or large to them i should say yeah the camera angles the different things uh is what i'm thinking they did And it works. I think it really works. It does. It kind of, like I said, think of Puppet Master, you know, with Blade and Pinhead and all these different ones. Think of them along with The Gate.

and just kind of the hellion minions, and that's kind of what you get in this movie. But I thought they'd done good. The transition between it, because you can tell they're real people in costumes.

But at the same time, they look tiny, so it works. So I appreciated that. I thought the filming of this was actually really well. It's kind of like when you're watching the 1970s Gargoyle. Yeah. Where it looks that realistic, so you appreciate the... effects of it agreed so i mean with that part of it they done really well with that so i was i was pleased with that the acting was was good in this one i won't say it's great sally played by kim darby and alex which is

The Husband, which was played by Jim Hutton, they were manageable. Kim Darby, I remember her from Teen Wolf 2, where she was the professor, she was the she-wolf. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's who it is. I can see her now. Yeah. Okay. I get it. You got Mr. Harris, which is the caretaker played by William. demurist i love that guy and who else we got love ethel leslie woods there's a few members in here but yeah but uh the cast was decent enough in this i think what hurts this though

is it's just too much of her, you know what I mean? It's just too much of one thing going on. I would like to see a little bit more. I don't know, just a little bit more. Well, I can see why. I mean, she was the only... person in the house most of the time one who would come and the old man who would come and help fix the place or paint and stuff and he would go home and of course the husband would go to work and i mean

The fact that she has a room full of people at a dinner party and not one single person sees anything. It's what... piss me off because yeah yeah well i mean it's 74 minutes long but it's made for tv so they had to fit it in a time slot and you got to add commercials and yada yada i don't know it could have put a little bit more into it because i felt like they sped up a lot of it but you know overall i mean it's still good it's still a good watch

Yeah, I would have liked to have seen a little slight backstory of how those creatures got there in the first place. Yeah, that would have been very helpful. We don't get that. We just know by the caretaker that he was told to seal it up. you know so he sealed it up and there you go but and i mean overall i mean this is good love i just i really enjoyed it i'm glad we got it and i would definitely watch this again

Yeah, it's good for the 70s indeed. Yeah, made for TV. So there it is. Don't be afraid of the dark, Pearl. You got anything else on it? No. Well, remember, Wednesday, October 10th, 1973. Bam. I would have picked that over any of the other stuff. Me too. Even with Sonny and Cher on it at 8 o'clock, at 8.30, I'd have been like, let's flip over here and go watch. Don't be afraid of the dart. Let's do it.

So there you go, guys and gals. Don't be afraid of the dark. I recommend it. Got the Blu-ray. It wasn't that expensive. Like I said, it's an archived Warner Brothers collection. And there are some special features on here, Pearl. Yes, sir. We do have a new audio commentary by Amanda Reyes, I think is how it said. Made for TV Mayhem. Audio commentary by Steve Uncle Creepy Barton.

Everybody knows Uncle Creepy, Steve Barton on Facebook, you know, Horror World. And then we've got screenwriter Jeffrey Reddick. Final Destination, Day of the Dead, and Sean Adley from Fangoria. So, yeah, there you go. So audio commentaries is what you get on here.

Bam. May have to listen to those. But don't be afraid of the dark, man. Check it out, guys. I'm telling you. I think it's worth it. And I didn't check. Was it on TV? I don't even remember. I think we actually had to order it because it wasn't on. Yeah, it wasn't streaming anywhere. Okay, so... Not even to buy, so I'm like...

Man. Man. So, yeah, we bought this on Blu-ray. Search it out, man. I recommend a purchase on this. It wasn't very expensive. Look up on eBay and different spots. Don't be afraid of Dark 1973. I'm going to tell you. Buy it. Yeah. Get it. Watch it. You'll enjoy it. for fun all right cool pearl you know what time it is voicemail time it's time to get a few voicemails in let's see let me pull out the trusty notebook here so i don't miss anybody's calls here let's go down to

And yes, I'm calling about the Valentine's Day wishes. Yeah. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Oh, boy, I don't know. I made it a little extra dramatic. I just, you know, because it's the...

You know, it's another one of those blessed holidays, and, you know, I hope that everybody, you know, we're in this nice little community, this family. We're all friends. We're all family here in the land of the creeps. So... My blackest heart of all black hearts, it goes out to everybody out there to the land. I can't single one individual person out of Land of the Creeps.

There's so many friends that I've made within the group. There's so many people that I talk to even on a daily basis. And I'm so fortunate and blessed. to be a part of this community. And I truly, you know, my heart goes out to all of you. If anybody ever needs to talk about whatever, and I feel like this applies to everybody with everybody.

You know, we could all just, you know, we have this wonderful community and we all talk to each other and we all lift our spirits up. And there are so many people within this group that when I'm down... I know that if I was just even just to send a random message that I don't even have to say that I'm being down, but it's just an uplifting moment of just having a message.

you know, that correspondence come back to you. You know, I mean, I have family, I have friends, you know, that live locally. And I'm not saying that they're not important in my life either. Or if I was having a bad day. But sometimes it's just that moment where you're just reaching for anyone. And that's the beauty of Land of the Creeps is that there's always someone that's there.

to talk or just to say hey or to quote a movie or talk about a movie or ask you a question and then it distracts you. gives you the warm fuzzies or whatever, whatever you're needed at that time, and that's putting a land of the creeps. So my Valentine's Day wishes to everybody of land of the creeps. There's so many lovely ladies. So many Dapper Dans out there. So many, you know, we are a blessed group. So I hope everybody has a wonderful Valentine's Day. We'll talk later.

Dude. Dude, we love you, buddy. I appreciate that, man. I will back you one million percent with the... The whole group, like, and I mean the podcast world, not just Facebook, but everyone like I, I think we've got such a great family of, of just friends. And I love that. And it's fun to interact.

you know on and off show and it's just it is important and i agree that is a good valentine's right for yeah and he said it perfectly you can't single just one person out because everyone contributes everyone special everyone does something and you know we're there for everyone i totally agree with you i think it's it's really important to remember that too that you know valentine's day is about love but it's also about friendship and and it can be friendship amongst each other right

Well, yeah. I mean, you love your friends. You love each other. We love all you guys. So, yeah. Absolutely. Cool. Let's get ready for our next voicemail. All right. Let's see who the next call here is. Pearl and Greg Bench, you're in the bowl. I need to keep saying that, but, you know, your call's in. Yeah, I wrote his name down. That's right. So let's go to our next caller. Hey, Greg Mortis and the Pearl. Sorry.

Brain fog for a second. I've been there. So I am calling in for your Modus Vision Valentine special. And y'all are awesome for doing a giveaway for everyone. That's really cool. So, Valentine's Day. Just say happy Valentine's Day to the best group ever, Land of the Creeps, and hope everyone's doing well. I got to... finish my list for the 91 and call back in um i'm going to talk romantic horror maybe bram stoker's dracula or warm bodies let the right one in any of those

But what's your favorite romantic horror movie? Talk to you later. Bye. Nice. Victoria called in. That's awesome. Appreciate that one. Yep. And, hey. It's okay. I could be called the mortal mortis or whatever. I brain fart all the time, Victoria, so do not apologize about anything. I forget my name nine out of ten times of a day. But we appreciate you calling in.

All righty, so that's our three calls there. We got four more left, and we'll do them right after our last review, Pearl. Yep. So the movie we're talking about is 1991, made for TV, The Haunted. Yes. I'm scared. Mom, what's happening to us? There are four spirits in your house. What does it want with us? It wants to kill you. Hectus, don't let it kill my children. And this aired May 6th, 1991 on... Fox Network.

And I tried to look up TV Guide, and I guess because of it being in the 90s, there was like five million channels. I couldn't find like I normally do with the 70s. I do know ABC was doing a mystery movie of the night, and that was Murder, She... wrote but uh i don't know what nbc had or anybody else had going on but we do know uh officially on fox was this movie the haunted and this is exciting pearl this was a made for tv movie i'd never seen

Yep. It started at 8 o'clock on whatever night this was. What was it? I guess a Wednesday night on May 6th, whatever night it was. I believe it was Wednesday. And the movie is about the Smurl family, right? Yes. The Smurl Heart, and that's S-M-U-R-L haunting, and this is based on a true story. Eerie, but yes. Very eerie. This is Ed and Warren. or ed and warren ed and lorraine warren

Right? We know them very well because of the Conjuring universe is where most people know them from. Of course. We knew them before the Conjuring because we knew a lot about paranormal stuff. But anyways, most people know them nowadays because of the movies Ed and Lorraine were in. But they ended up investigating this at one time later on in the...

As far as in real life now, we'll talk real life for a few minutes and then we'll get to the movie, okay? So the hauntings themselves, Pearl, took place supposedly between 1974 and 1989. Yes. In the Smurl family. They bought this home. It was in West Pittston, Pennsylvania. Dr. Shock, where's that at? I don't know. Have we been there at Pearl? I don't know.

I know. We could have passed it and not know it. We may have. It's a double block house, which means it's basically almost what you would call a duplex now where you got two houses. Well, one house, but... Kind of split in two. So the family, basically, it was the husband and wife and kids on one side, mom and dad on the other side. Yeah. They became the place.

They said became haunted with demons. There was demons in this house. It became really bad. They were calling a priest in. They were calling the churches in. They brought in demonologists. That's where Ed and Lorraine.

ended up coming in and investigating ed and lorraine quote-unquote said it was very uh what was the word i think they said on uh shoot but anyways on wikipedia i think they had something along the lines he said it was very powerful very powerful uh was this the demon that was in this house and they supposedly had some things go on but

there was a professor that came in and called this thing a hoax like this is a hoax it's nothing more than either psychological or or whatever and and the dad ended up admitting in 83 that he had had some water fluid took off his brain from short time memory loss, different things. So who knows, right? Yeah. All we know is, is the Smurl family went through hell.

in their own life as far as them mentally. And it became a media thing because they went to the media and then that became a whole scenario where they ended up having to move because of the... neighborhood because of the front of them and yes so it became a a position where they had to finally move but but they did end up writing a book

So, you know, they're like, we're tired of the media. We want to get out of this. And then they write a book. Like, that makes me kind of question it. It does, but it's, I mean. It's like you're capitalizing off this now after you said the media and you didn't want to be known. You want to just kind of just disappear and then you write a book which is going to just bring it right back out. True.

But at the same time, too, you gotta see their position. You gotta be like, you know, you're fighting against people who are always gonna mock you because there's non-believers and there's people who are, you know, have a logical reason behind something. Right. You also got the ones that do see something, but then yet still somewhat deny what they see. You know, they see it as a hypnosis kind of group, you know.

mental like you know when they kind of like say oh that was a suggestion that's why you know blah blah blah yeah and of course the believers you know which the priests or churches or you know They were outraged because they found their perfect home. In-laws were sick. And they just wanted a new beginning. She wanted a lifestyle. She wanted... friends she wants her kids to grow up in a good community and you know as well as the book would say you know

happened because all they did was started renovating. They didn't know they were going to awaken something. They were playing with Ouija boards or doing anything like that. They were innocent people, you know. doing something yeah they didn't ask normal yeah they didn't ask for it yeah so i think you know after you're you don't want to be in the public eye but you were in the public eye so much and now you're like wait a minute I insist on my story being told. A lot of this happened to us.

you know they might as well make something out of it either you know help someone else along the way and yeah at the same time too of course you know make some money on the side sure yeah i see it both ways too and uh to get into the movie itself

Like I said, 1991. And this one was directed by Robert Mandel. And it stars Sally Kirkland. Pretty recognizable. And like most made-for-TV movies, that's... needed right yes you know when you're making a tv movie you're up against primetime networking and stuff you got to have people that are noticeable and recognizable and she was definitely

And I think you mentioned she was nominated for a Golden Globe for this role. Yes, she was. And deservingly. We also have Jeffrey DeMunn, who plays the husband. And Jeffrey, very young Jeffrey DeMond, by the way. Yeah. Right? Yeah. I'm so used to him. He will forever be the character from The Mist. Yeah. That's who I see. I think that's why I recognize him more on that.

Yeah, he's that character. But anyways, so we got him and then we got some other people in the movie. So basically, husband, wife, kids, one side of the house, mom and dad on the other side of the house. They're loving their home, Pearl. Things are going great. Family's great. And then it starts. Like most movies, it starts with noises. It starts with things moving.

And it progresses into shadows, right? Yes. And demonic stuff. And that's kind of how it usually happens, right? Yeah. It's usually a little knock on a window or a little... something moving is what i call testers they're testing they're testing the living to see if like they can spook them and any entity that's from the other side

get stronger with energy energy from fear so right like i said to me they're like testers yeah and that's what we have in this one and it becomes a point in the movie where the janet smurl Right? She is so distraught because she's with it all the time. And Jack doesn't really know what's going on. But there's a moment with her and her mom. Right? Because her mom gets really pissed at her.

Because she heard such language coming out of her mouth. And she swore it was from her. But at the same time... Janet had heard her mom yelling at her too, and she wasn't there. So the spirit or the demon or whatever may be going on in this house was able to voice mock them.

to the point that it sounded like they were there and that caused a rift for the family for a little bit right yeah and then we go from there and the husband is kind of not believing things at first but then he starts finding out firsthand that something ain't right And that's when the movie picks up and it progresses, like I said, to the point where there's shadows and then there's like really hard things. Rape, right?

There's a weird scene where, and we do do spoilers on here. Yes. But there's the weird scene where the husband is basically being raped by some spirit over him. That just comes walking down the stairs like nothing. Yeah. it uh it transformed itself like made itself known to you know him finally make him a believer but at the same time too it wanted to take from him yeah it's just odd you know because obviously you know he couldn't move it was stronger than him

But you can see his transformation, like, in front of him, like, from young girl to old hag. Oh, God. It kept going back and forth. It was weird. Yeah. That was a weird sequence. But disturbing, right? Yeah. Because, I mean, we watch it. Yeah, if you're watching it as a movie, you're probably watching, you're joking. You're like, ha ha, look at that. Yeah, right. But if that was happening in real life...

How horrifying and terrifying would that be, right? Yeah. I mean, dudes would be like, oh, I'd love to get raped by a food. No, you wouldn't. Like, dude, that would not be fun. That would not be enjoyable. That would be fun.

It wouldn't be Ghostbusters when Dan Aykroyd is getting up. Right. No, it's totally not that. So, you know, the things that's happening in this house is so disturbing and so... uh sad at the same time right there's no help they're calling priests and priests are coming in they even do at one point uh the church sends a guy to stay with them but every time they do that The spirit's smart. It just doesn't show up. Nope. Plays hide and seek.

And they end up saying like, no, there's nothing here. I've been here for two days. Nothing's happened. I'm out of here. I can't stay here because nothing's happening, right? And then one of them that did experience, he... left them yeah because he was like hey i'm out of here yeah like bro this is way above me right so it's that whole thing through the movie and then we see ed and uh lorraine

warren come in and they do their thing so we do have those aspects in this movie this is going to be a movie where you're either going to be on the believer side or the non-believer side you're going to either mock it and say yeah, right. You know, you're going to be like, yeah, come on, you're phony, you're fake, you're hoax, you're whatever. And then there are going to be people that believe these things truly do happen and are going to watch it.

And I think you're going to look at it from the side of like, wow, what would I do? Or how would I react? Or if I was in this situation, what would I have done? Right? Because the mom basically almost goes insane. She was a... church leader she was really big in the church had lots of friends and she was becoming unraveled because this thing was driving her insane and especially too that she had a bad heart that yeah you know she couldn't take everything that was going on right

So the acting in this movie is phenomenal. It's really good. I think they do enough with the spirit side of things that it works. I thought the Ed and... Lorraine was good. I enjoyed this movie. It's not what I would call a great movie, but it was enjoyable enough because of, should we say in our own lives sometimes, Pearl, that... Some things can happen, right? Yeah, I mean, always know that you gotta expect the unexpected. Should I give my experience?

That happened to me. Should I reveal that? Sure you can. And my reaction to what happened. Sure. Because I probably did the wrong thing and pulled the curtain back. Now, this is reality. I'm not talking movie. I'm not talking, you know, fakeness. This is something that truly happened in our apartment, in our house where we live.

And it was weird. It was the weirdest thing that ever happened. Now, there's always certain things that go on in this house on a daily basis that makes me question. And I just I kind of tend to either ignore or avoid.

and act a different like no i'm not going to give you anything i'm just moving on and i and i you know you're on guard i'm on guard but at the same time too i can you know realistically see why questions would be questions because it's natural you know you you either question like the only person in the room right or you question

your own sanity or you question just yeah okay so here's here's the scenario that happened this happened a few weeks ago probably i can't remember if it was after christmas i think it was yeah it was after christmas it was in january so it's been in this Last month. But anyways, I'm sitting on the sofa, Pearl's on the sofa, and she makes a comment about we got right where our computer's at beside our TV on the wall. We got a bookshelf.

and she noticed that one of the movies looked like it was going to fall. She just jokingly said, oh, it looks like that movie's going to fall. And I look over there, and I'm like, well, that's kind of odd. Didn't think much about it. And then a little bit later, I got up and I pushed it in and I was like, okay. And then I get to looking around and I'm like, wait a minute. What's going on here? Literally, this is the honest truth. I'm not lying about nothing here. I promise you.

Movies had been moved on my shelf. And I'm talking moved from one shelf to another. I have certain areas, like I've got my Halloween movies in a certain area. I've got my Friday 13th in a certain area. I have Arrow videos in a certain area.

All these movies, and I'm not saying every single movie had been moved, but there was a good 30 to 40 movies had been completely shifted around, moved, instead of the case being... face out with a spine it was flipped i had a lot of movies completely out of place and before anyone says anything no i did not do it this is that see that and this is what i'm saying so i'm looking around i'm like

pissed i am beyond pissed because i have i don't want to call it ocd you have but there there's a couple things that i really love in my life and my wife is number one she's numero uno will always be Movies is right there at number two. I love my movies. Pearl knows that. I'm a collector. I love my movies. I love them in a certain spot. I don't like anything being touched, moved.

unless I know about it. I've got them scanned to a certain location so I know where to go. Everything is where they need to be. Which I will point out too. This is exactly why I understand him because I have OCD as well. And in particular, how I label or put my movies in a certain, that's why I have my own little show. And I don't touch his. I very rarely ever touch his movies. I'll always ask him.

can we watch this? And then he goes, where's that? Exactly. So anyways, I see the movies are out of place. And at first I thought it was just a few. And then I'm looking around. I'm like, dude, this is, and I'm cussing. I'm like, this is.

fucking ridiculous like this is beyond for i was pissed like to the point i slammed a door i'm mad and i'm not mad at pearl i want y'all to know this i'm not looking or accusing pearl of anything i'm pissed i'm like something has touched my fucking mood but i'm still sitting in the corner she's scared because i went ballistic dude i'm like who has touched my mood and then pearl mentioned to me she said don't feed into it because it could cause

It's testing. It's a tester. It's a tester because being through that with other people, not just like myself, but other people, I've always been told you don't. Whether you believe it or not, you just still don't do it. You don't feed energy into something negative. But I did. I went for a few hours. I was in beast mode, right? So I'm like, dude. And then I was just like, almost to the point I just said,

Fuck it. I don't even care about my movies anymore. I'm not even going to freaking touch it. It took me, I was to that point. I didn't even want to touch them. I was like, I'm done. You know, it takes me forever to do these movies. And then somebody moves. So I was pissed. So anyways, I let a few hours simmer down. I go back in. I start moving to movies. I get everything back to where I wanted it. I'm like, okay, I'm done.

thankfully knock on wood nothing else has happened on that side of things but i'm saying that because i feel what this family was kind of feeling because of certain things moving around right and the fact that they're very high oh pearl could never reach these movies dude anybody wants to come to the house can look she can't reach some of these movies at all uh

she couldn't even stand on something recently. So anyway, so I said that to say this, be careful what you feed and be careful what you think. And, and you might be thinking, Greg, you're a freaking. No, I don't believe you're an idiot. And that's perfectly fine. Hey, I'll take that. I just know what physically happens here on a regular basis. And thankfully, knock on wood, nothing other than a few movies has been moved.

uh to me pearl sees a lot more than i do so for me that's the biggest thing that's happened Does that mean anything else further is going to happen? I hope not. I hope that's the last of it. I hope it saw that I was pissed, and I'm hoping it was the spirit of a child that said, ha-ha, I better not do that again because I might get whooped.

I'm hoping that that's what happens because I don't want anything else to happen from there. But with that said, it definitely freaked me out. That freaked me out. Yeah, I know. And I'm going to take this one too. Remember the shells I put on the wall? above our head oh god did i ever have i ever mentioned this i don't know if i've ever mentioned this oh my god i built

I built this shelf and I basically took two by fours and turn them on their side. And then you take one by fours, uh, one by slats and you make, you know, shells off of two by fours. Cheap way to do it. But you could hold a lot of movies. And what I did was above the sofa, we had a different sofa at the time. The sofa was actually up against the wall. Now it's off away from the wall a little bit. But we had the sofa up against the wall.

And I had these shells and there were approximately probably 800 to 900 movies above our head. And I had them all there. And Pearl and I are one night watching a movie or TV or whatever we're doing. And all I hear is... And then, bam. And we are freaking under movies. Like, the shelf had completely... And it was one, two. I can't see you no more. I think it was four two by four slats with one by. And they were like four high. Like this thing was massive that I had on this wall. And it literally.

Went off the wall, fell down on our heads. We got 800 movies on our head and the sofa on the floor. They're everywhere. And the first thing to do is, of course, grab Pearl. Are you okay? You know, just throwing movies off of her. You didn't break nothing. I mean, we could have literally died under movies.

What a way to go, right? But I'm sitting here like, dude, this is crazy. So weird things happen in this place, I'm telling you. So that said, anyways, let's get back to the movie. People probably say, Greg, you're a kook. Shut up. You don't know what you're talking about. I'm just saying I know what I have experienced, and Pearl definitely knows what she has experienced. And this movie, they have definitely seen some things in this movie, and I enjoyed it. I thought it was a really fun watch.

It's not going to make my top five of 1991. I'll go ahead and spoil it. It won't. But it was worth a viewing. And I really want... you guys and gals to watch this right pearl yeah and take it for what it is watch it and either be you know skeptic about it or be like a believer whatever you want to do you know that's that's your prerogative but for me I believe. Because I have tasted this. I hope we never taste the...

deepness of what this family supposedly went through. Yeah, knock on wood, I wouldn't want that. No, but I have tasted little things and it's enough to keep me on edge and think. Yeah. So I try not to feed into it. I keep my mind and I just move on. If I see something, I just act like it's not there because I'm not feeding into it. And I don't even say nothing to Pearl.

I think I'm the one who scares you more than them anyway. Yes, dude. God. Last night. Oh, God. The shadows, the different things you do. Oh, my God. Anyways. So with that said, I'm just saying this is a fun watch. Check it out. It was once aired May 6th, 1991 on Fox Network. And it was, once again, Golden Globe, Best Actress for Miniseries, Sally Kirkland. She was nominated. And it also was a Primetime Emmy Award.

Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited Series or Movie. And it was nominated. Did not win, but nominated. And it was done. It was a well-done movie. Yes, it was. So check it out. I think it was on YouTube. Tube or Tubi? It's on one of the streams. Tubi was one of them. Yes, it's streaming, so it's called The Haunted.

1991. Check it out. And if you go on Wikipedia, check out the cool little TV guide printout or whatever it is. It's got the Fox night at the movies and the haunted. I'll try to put that little trailer in there somewhere.

bumper too so we'll see so Pearl you got anything else to add on that no just the fact that I think the only thing that gave me heebie-jeebies the most out of the whole movie was the fact of like even in the ending is the fact of like How something unknown can learn you, pretend to be you, and then like just call you out like and... imitate someone that you know. To me, that personally was scary. Agreed. And I never want that to happen. Yeah, I know. Ow!

All right, Pearl, let's get into our last of the voicemails. Okay. All right. So our next one up here, this will be our fourth entry into the draw. Let's see who we got, Pearl. Hello, Land of the Creeps. More specifically, Mortis Vision. Hi, this is Bo Patterson out of Maslin. Bo Patterson. Who doesn't want one of Pearl's goodie bags? I'm curious to see what's in there.

A big happy Valentine's Day to you, Greg, and Pearl for taking your time out to do this and to make the goodie bags and just making this show so epic and what it is. who we're going to add. Pearl, this is what, our fifth one? Yes, it is. So our fifth one for the... And everyone's being written down. Yep, everyone's being written down. So our fifth one for the goodie bag. Let's go ahead and call it in here. Hey, it's G-Reg. I'm calling for Mortis Vision for the Valentine's Day episode.

And, yeah, I just want to say it's really sweet. I think Mortis Vision with Greg and Pearl is one of the sweetest damned things you'll hear all week. You two are so in love, and it's so sweet to hear. And I really appreciate you. Really appreciate you guys sharing that with us. A very vulnerable kind of thing to share. And you don't hear on many podcasts at all. So do appreciate that about you. And I've got to give a shout-out to my wife, who I am thrilled.

to be with for coming up on 11 years here soon. And she's fantastic. So glad she came into my life. Her name is Jacqueline, and she will probably never hear this. She doesn't listen to the show, but beyond that, she's flawless. You get what I'm saying? But yeah, she's been really good for going to horror movies with me. She's another horror fan. She's been to some horror conventions with me. And she and I have similar interests like that.

All right. Well, I'm going to go before I get cut off. And, yeah, happy Valentine's Day to all the creepers out there. Bye. G-Reg and Jacqueline. Jacqueline ain't listening. I get you, buddy. Hey, she can't be 100% perfect, right? Is anybody? Yes, she is. She's awesome. It's okay she don't listen, buddy. That's so sweet. It's okay. He can just be like, listen to this part right here.

And she can listen to it and be like, oh, and then he gets extra brownie points. Brownie points. Everybody needs a brownie point here or there, buddy. Let's go, Pearl. Let's see here. Let's go to our next caller. And this will be number six. Yes. I'm losing count because I'm trying to keep up with the calls over here. It's kind of difficult, but six costs. Yeah, it'll be six. Okay, so six. Let's see who we get to add to the goodie bag.

that i've ever wanted and that happened about seven years ago and i happened into amy lee's life and she became my world according to the movie hard eyes we're part of the one percent of the world Mrs. Russell, I feel blessed to call you my heavy metal horror soulmate. You are an amazing woman, beautiful and smart inside and out. And I will happily tell you that every day for the rest of your life.

best friend, my wife, and my brother Valentine. And now for the rest of you people over there at LOTC. I love you all. I truly do. Greg Pearl, Bill, Dave, you guys are awesome. Thanks to all the people that reached out in support and encouragement. It's appreciated more than you know. And all the creeps that call in, just too many to list, but from your points of view. all the little catchphrases that we picked up over the years.

It took me 49 years to find that person that just did my puzzle piece. I've known people that it took 70 years. They'll never give up. Boom. Greg P. That was the heart melt of the episode. I love that. And we've personally seen you with Amy Lee.

And the love is definitely genuine, brother. And I love that you found you a perfect soulmate, brother. Yeah. I remember like when we were there with them, the little, the little googly eyes, they give each other looking over the shoulder and like, Oh, cute. I know. Right. and i love that dude and that's what i appreciate out of you guys and and especially the the love that you

you know, push out too. It's not just the love that, you know, you got inside for yourselves, but you do push that love out and we feel it and we appreciate it. Uh, 100%. I know everybody else does as well. So, uh, we are going to leave you out of the goody bag since you said, even though I would love to put you in there anyway because, you know, you still called in, you still obeyed by the rules and all that, but we will respect you for saying you want to bow out.

I guess we'll leave them out, even though, you know, bummer. But anyway, so let's go to this call here. Let's go to this one. Yep, right here. Bam. And let's see who's called in here. Love, I don't know. Let's. Let's see. This will technically be number six, right? Yes. Yeah, okay. So this is technically number six. Let's see what we got. Hey, Greg Amortis and Twisted Temptress. This is Chris Batoli from Worcester, Mass. CB. I want to let you know how much.

loving the uh mortis vision and i really loved the last episode when you guys were doing like a preview of uh upcoming movies for 2025. i don't get to the theater as much as i would like to i wish i could but it's just kind of the way it works out but these a lot of these movies i'll catch them when they come on streaming so they i mean there were so many good ones it seems like coming out and for my valentine message it's uh very simple this year

For my downtime, I just want it to be the whole LOTC family from all the hosts and every co-host that's on there and the listeners and the callers and the group members on the group page. Yep, you guys, man, love you guys. So be my Valentine. All right, but that's it. So I love you, and I'm going to hang up now, and I've got to call into the LOTC proper for 1991. Bye.

Oh, I will totally be your Valentine, my friend. Yeah, we're all each other's Valentine's. That's right. We love you, Chris, dude. Appreciate you calling in and can't wait to hear what you got for Black Glove. possibly 1991. But bam, Pearl, that is it. That is it. We got, what, six? So who all do we have again? We have G-Reg, Bo Patterson, Victoria, Greg Bench. Darren from Northern California, and Chris Bartoli. There you go. So what we're going to do, listeners, are we doing one?

Let me explain something. Okay. As I said before because I mean as much as I want to load tons of goodies in a goodie bag you know I'm trying here so you know. I'm going to repeat myself. There are mini goodie bags. Mini. Mini can mean anything from... A card or a gift card with stickers or a movie or, you know, and yada, yada. Yada, yada. So, yeah. Okay. So what are we doing? One, two. Two.

All right, so we are going to do two. We were originally going to do one, but we're feeling generous, and we're going to do two goodie bags. Yes. First one will be what we will call the... i guess the main prize the main prize and the second one will be second prize it's sackett prize but it's not sacking in our hearts right so let's go ahead and do this what we'll do is uh pearl's gonna get these shook up and she'll pull one out

So let's see who we got. All right, so here we go for number one. This is for the – should we do the main event or the second one? Well, no. We always got to go first. Go first. Okay, so this is the main goodie bag. So let's see who's going to win it. Drum roll. All right, Pearl, who you got? I got, and the winner for the first prize is G-Rag. G-Rag? Oh, my God. Hey, G-Rag. Hey, we don't have to mail it.

Hey, G-Reg, come by the house. We'll give it to you, buddy, or I'll swing him out of there, or we'll find somewhere. So G-Reg wins the main goodie bag. We'll give that to him in person. We'll make sure we meet up, maybe at the theater or something. So we'll take care of that one, G-Reg. We'll message you.

we'll set up a town because he lives right near me man we're literally neighbors neighbors so that's awesome we're uh kakalaki neighbors nor kakalaki all right cool all right so we weren't going to do it but now we're going to do it let's go with number two okay all right We got Pearl. She's a shaker. I know. Sorry. I want to make sure that I'm. She's going to make sure she gets the right. Okay. Here we go. Okay.

And the second one is Bo Patterson. Bo Patterson. Oh, dang. All right. There you go. So, uh.

greg and bo patterson greg you'll get the uh first prize bo patterson you'll get the second prize bo will get your address and get that shipped out to you and greg we can ship it to you or we'll just bring it to you either way i'll just say we just bring it to you so we can hang out anyways we need to do that we haven't hung out in a little bit so uh we'll do that so there are your winners for the valentine goodie bags and thank you everyone for calling

wonderful messages and you know it's mutual from us we love all you guys and each of you are special and no one's left out alone you don't have a bound time call us we'll be your bound time I'll be your Huckleberry. With me, it's easy. You just gotta give me candy. Just give her candy. She'll be your Valentine. Absolutely. I love it. Well, listeners.

This has been the Mortis Vision episode, I think, Pearl. We looked at 1973's Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, 1991's The Haunted. We gave my story of my movies getting moved around and me getting so pissed about, you know. broke a hole in a wall but uh so we've done a lot of talk tonight yeah but i do gotta mention something because it is valentine's okay i'm gonna recommend two movies oh let's hear it because they're fun

But they have a little romance in it. And a little touch of horror. A little romance in the stone here. And what works perfectly because the same actor is in both of these movies. Okay. His name. Scott Valentine. The first movie he's in is My Demon Lover. Okay. Which, you know, he... finds a young woman with bad luck and meeting in the right time right place and you know where it goes from there the next one is to sleep with a vampire

An unhappy vampire picks up a suicidal stripper and brings her back to his apartment. And it goes from there. Now, are these made for TV or are these movie movies? Movie movies. In the early 90s, Scott Valentine was big. I'll look him up right now while you're talking. He's Justine Bateman's on Family Tice Boyfriend, Nick. Okay, I'm still looking. And so Valentine, Scott Valentine, was he the, oh, yo. Oh, yeah, he was the rocky sounding guy.

Yeah. What was it again? Family Ties. Family Ties. Yo. Dude, he aged. He has aged. Woo. And then personally for me, hint hint, I want to watch it, Living Dead 3. Return of the Living Dead Part 3? Yes. With your girl... Mindy Clark. Mindy Clark. Hey, you got the poster, her naked. Yes, I do. We got that from Scott. It's Sean Clark. That's right, from his personal collection. Yeah, it's a really beautiful poster, too. Yeah, we still got to hang that. We do. We do need to hang that. Yeah.

And I don't care if anybody comes in. It's the movie poster, basically, but it does have a breast of just hanging out. That's okay. Hey. That is okay. It is okay. It's good press. But no, it's cool. It's like I said from Return of the Living Dead. So there you go. Return of the Living Dead part three sounds like what Pearl and I are watching for Valentine's. Yeah. Is that our Valentine's Day night watch?

It don't matter. Whatever time of the day, it don't matter to me. On the 14th, we'll watch it. Yeah, I want to watch it. Okay. All right. So that's what we're watching on Valentine's Day. And of course, Greg Amortis. Yeah. You'll always have my heart. You know you're the love of my life. And thank you for coming into my life. Oh, God, you'll make me cry. No, don't cry. You will. Because as I told you, something was always missing in my life. There's nothing missing anymore.

Oh, my God. And you will forever be there. As to my heart. And forever. I will find you. Even after death. I will find you. Please do. And you know that no matter what. always be there if if and i hope this does not happen but if you go before me i want you to come back and find me i want you to come back and and man i will be there wait and i'll be like

Make bed for you and everything. You're right here, love. Yeah, I mean, okay, real talk. Everyone knows that my health is not so well. Right. More than likely. If it does happen and I go first. I want everyone to please watch over Greg Amortis and remind him that I will be there. And I will be around. And he will never lose me. only physically but never lose me that's right because i will wait for him even if we reincarnate i mean if we reincarnate can we be crows or even um

Wolves. I want to be something that we can live forever. I don't want to be something like a crow that only lasts like a year or two or whatever. A crow does not last a year. How long does a crow last? It could last 20 years. Hey, as long as I want to live forever. Well, I appreciate that, Pearl. And you know I love you, right? So I want to say this without getting too oochie, oochie, oochie, too, because she knows me.

Same thing, and I know you guys are like, oh, my God, here we go. Well, you just hush your mouth over there, boys. Y'all just listen. But, no, the same thing. Like, I feel like – what greg p said took him 49 years to find the love of his life i'm right there with you greg p because it took me forever to find the love of my life and i found her and she's right here and she's not going to where no matter what she will always be forever etched

LOTC will ever be hers because it's on her back for crying out loud. So, you know, she literally tattooed on her body. So, you know, she's going to be LOTC for life and she's going to be Greg Amortis for life because we're inseparable. We always say that anytime I text. she knows this always end with inseparable i always do that and that's there's a reasoning behind that because we are because we also have a star

In the sky. We do. I literally bought us a star. I don't care what y'all think about it. paid money to get a star and they sent us a map and they sent us a block. Hey, you should do that guys. The first year we met. That's right. You guys should do that. Search it out. I don't care. We got our own star by damn it. And, uh, it's, it's.

going to be forever inseparable and that's what we are so with that said you know we love you uh listeners and of course i love my wife and she'll forever be my my whole my puzzle piece that was missing for sure so we appreciate each and every one of you we hope you've enjoyed this episode uh from ian and i from black glove to pearl and i here with mortis vision we love doing these shows and we love

Having you guys and gals tune in each and every week, that means the world to us. Stay tuned as we have our top five horror movies in 1991 coming up next, which is going to be exciting. We've got special guest Hugh Lloyd. From across the pond. And I cannot wait to have him. And I do want to say a very special thank you to Hugh. Because of the fact that he is five hours. Ahead. Ahead of us. So when we record, we record at night.

So it's literally, I think we're going to start around 11 p.m. his time. And you know we go pretty long. So it's probably going to be 2, 3 o'clock in the morning before we're done with him. So thank you, thank you, thank you ahead of time. Thank you, Hugh, for doing that and for...

You know, taking one for the team, so to speak. So we can't wait to see how that turns out. We're going to record it as we're recording. It'll be tomorrow night, so we cannot wait. So we're going to hop off here and just say, Pearl, what you got in closing. Once again, happy Valentine's to everyone. Each and every one of you out there. Please keep continuing showing the love. And like I said, no one gets left behind. We're family. And this was fun.

And I can't wait to actually release this. You guys know where to find me. I'm anywhere. Greg Morris is at and on the main LTC group page. Bam. That's right. And you can follow us. On Facebook, Instagram, X, all them spots over at Jay the Dead's New Horror Movie Podcast. We're over there as well. YouTube, if you haven't been following the YouTube channel, I'm trying to post more videos over there as much as I can. And we actually got it.

do another video some movies it was just recently purchased i will do a a video for and some different things maybe some more mini reviews at the theater uh i guess the next one will probably be the monkey will probably be the next one we'll do, the next horror movie, I guess you should say. So I'll try to continue doing those little mini-reviews.

And I hope you all enjoy those. I like doing them, and we love going to theaters. So we'll see what happens. But with that said, we're going to hop off here. Stay true to one another. Love one another. Help keep horror alive. We do that one movie at a time, one review at a time. Till next time. Peace. Happy Valentine's Day.
