TC presents Black Glove Mysteries with Ian Urza and Greg Amortis. Welcome to Land of the Creeps Presents Black Glove Mysteries. I'm your host Greg Amortis calling in from North Caggy Lackey. And we all know that's North Carolina to all you Northerners. And we got Ian Urza. What's up, Ian? Greg, do you know how many animals I had to fuck to get this coat? I don't. Wait till you hear or what?

I say, wait till you're not going to see it here tonight, but watch these movies and you'll understand that quote. Oh, there were a lot of like cheesy lines and dance with death. I have like a bunch of them, especially early on. There are a ton of them.

Yeah, you could have chose from a million almost. It's crazy. That was what I liked where the girl points out the coat and she's like, do you know how many animals had to die for that coat? That's what the other wants us back oh man we're gonna have fun tonight listeners we have chosen this is our uh continuance of our american shallow month and we each ian and i picked a american shallow film

And both of these were first-time watches for myself, so I had chose 1990's The Rain Killer, and Ian had chose 1992's Dance with Dev. And that's the movies we'll be talking about tonight. Super excited to talk about this, man. This is going to be a fun show. We've got our next show planned out, too. We'll get to at the end of the episode. That's, I think, going to be fun and exciting. Some Italian giallo. It's going to be fun, man. It's going to be fun.

Well, for the first episode, we chose two movies that are fairly well known with wide releases. For this, we chose like B movies that are a little less well known. And the fact that Maria Ford is like a B movie softcore queen is in both.

of them is uh evidence of that yeah and so coincidental like there was no planning this out no i always i remember her most well i gotta say i will say i remember her pretty well what she does in the rain killer but i also remember pretty well from slumber party massacre 3 where she once again takes her clothes off and does like a dance in that movie

She knew exactly what she was doing, that's for sure. Yeah. So we're super excited. So if you have not watched these movies, I hope you will check them out. These are both readily available out there. I know the one was on Tubi.

the rain killer and i feel like dance dance with the death was that on i feel like i think it was on you can find a print on youtube and you can find a print on prime i think the print on prime is a little bit better honestly yeah um like slightly not by a ton but it is a better print it's like a it's like a decent vhs print basically um scream factory or shout factory probably more accurate did a uh a double feature

of Dance with Death and something else. I can't remember what the other movie is on the Blu-ray, but it doesn't have any bonus features, and it goes now for...

quite a bit of money. It might be $30 on the shelf factory store because it didn't have any bonus features. I wasn't really about to buy it because dance with death. I like the movie, but it's not like a 10 out of 10 for me. Spoiler alert. Yeah. So, I mean, if it had bonus features on, it like if it had like a commentary with Barbara Allen Woods or something I would buy it yeah yeah

Well, we're going to get into those for sure. So you can check both these out for free. I did watch it on Prime. I do remember that now. And then the... The Rain Killer I'd watched on Tubi, so that was available there. Yeah, it's probably the, because it looked good enough to be that Scorpion releasing Blu-ray.

from years ago that's what it looked good enough to be that right yeah and i'm pretty sure that's probably what it was for sure but uh the other one that you're talking about was uh dance of the damned was okay yeah i do not know that movie maybe another 90s

skin of max crossed with a thriller movie because that's basically what these both were probably probably no doubt and it's available you can get a copy if you want to i'm not going to recommend it but if you want to you can actually get it on youtube there's a copy for 37 bucks sealed.

But anyways, that's Shout Factory. Yeah, it's probably less expensive on their site, but you're going to have to pay for the shipping. So it'll probably even sell. Yeah. So there you go. All right. So let's go ahead and get into this. We're super excited. We're going to do these in chrono. logical order ian and uh but first we should do this anything exciting happening in the world of ian uh the last couple weeks

Uh, not too much. I'm just happy because my dad is visiting for Buffalo. It's my sister's birthday, uh, tomorrow. So he's been here for basically almost a, basically almost a whole week, which usually doesn't. Always happen normally. It's just a few days. So that's been pretty fun. I went to see Presence the other night. Thought it was okay. Didn't love it. But a lot of people seem to be liking it a little bit more than I do. There's one movie on Shudder that I do.

want to watch what i it's that uh grafted i think it's called yeah i think i'm gonna watch that at some point this weekend yeah i feel like that's a um uh because the the image has like a head inside a split head that's the one you're talking about like yeah yeah yeah just sounded like it might have some good practical effects to it yeah totally yeah i'm definitely looking forward to that one uh

and pearl and i went out and saw the presence recently too so i'm kind of in the same boat i was around a six five for it yeah i thought it was fine but it doesn't it doesn't really feel like a movie i'll ever have too much interest in watching again sure i talked about that in my letterbox review

I really want to see Hard Eyes. That's definitely the movie I'm waiting to see. Yes. That looks fun. It looks like a good slasher flick. We'll see. Maybe we'll get some new killer to root for. We'll see. Well, I mean, you think about it. This century, I feel like we've had Art the Clown is now obviously the big slasher and really horror icon in general. And it really sucks to me that...

that the Hatchet films weren't released a little later or that they weren't faced with so much MPA censorship, because I feel like Victor Crowley should be just as much an icon as Arthur Clown is. Yeah, yeah, I agree with that. And the killer from...

thanksgiving too would have been a good one maybe we'll see some uh yeah what is it uh john carver john carver yes so maybe we'll see more of those i think there is a part two so we'll see how far they can go with that but that's definitely one of those cool killers like man he's like oh this is hip to be cool yeah i mean everything eli roth did with that film even though i feel like it was to be honest

closer to a pg-13 version of what he kind of wanted to do originally with the grindhouse version it still was a it was still was a fairly fun slasher film it had a good mystery had some good kills and the mask of the killer was really cool which know you need that mask it's like that that's a staple of the slasher genre is like a signature weapon and a signature get up or a signature mask yeah totally and it has it so we'll see and then of course the art clown with his his get up too so

All right. Well, cool. I'm excited too, man. I'm looking forward to a week or two down the road when we get that hard eyes and we'll have to talk about that. For sure. We're going to get into our first feature review tonight. It's going to be from 1990. This is the movie that I chose, and we're going to play the trailer right now for The Rain Killer.

This guy's smart. He's systematic. Look for a link between the victims. No connection except they were all well-to-do women about the same age. All three victims were in drug rehab. And the rain. When they were both killed, it was raining. You'll be working with an FBI agent from now on. This thing gets solved on the streets. You bet. Your wife was a former user? It was your friend. Him? Well, he looks very interesting. What kind of guy makes moves?

I'm the wife of the guy that he's working with. LAPD is not looking too good on this one. The Bureau wants an arrest or a four guy. I don't intend to go down with it, you understand? All right, so let's do an IMDb synopsis. Together, a weary cop and an all-business FBI agent team up to catch the latest homicidal maniac, the Rain Killer.

Just when they think that all the clues have been washed away, they find the one last clue. The one that's been in plain sight. This movie was directed by Ken Stein and written by Ray Conneth. um so let's get into it have you ever seen this movie ian

No, I hadn't. I had heard of it when you mentioned that you thought about doing this one as one of your picks because I had looked around for years for like American Giallo list because, you know, Giallo is just such a favorite genre of mine of film.

where I'm always like, okay, are there American giallos out there? Are there books I can read that are like giallos? Are there animes that I can watch like giallo movies? So I had known about this one, but I had never really dived further into it or... nor had I seen it. Yeah, same here. First time watch for me as well. And it plays okay. This is a straight up police procedural type movie that has some kills going on.

It's not a black glove, but it's definitely a rain-coated killer that I think works to an extent.

Is this the best movie out there? Absolutely not. There's lots of problems, and a lot of it is the script. It's a very weak story for me. There's not a lot to this story. Well, I had a problem with... there just doesn't seem to be enough red herrings you know the movie only really focuses on like really three or well four people if you include the one suspect they basically have the entire move like they basically suspect this guy is a killer

from like 40 minutes in and nothing really diverts from that and that's the problem is there's just there's not a whole lot of moving pieces here and I'm not even I don't really like convoluted plots myself but man if you had given us one or two more people that would have at least been a little

more interesting yeah because i knew the killer i told pearl man i found the killer out well i i figured it out unless they were trying to Unless they were trying to divert you from something, I figured it out from a piece of clothing that someone wears. I figured it out from the killer is wearing a certain article of clothing. And then another character is, I'm not telling you who, I'm not even giving you really any hints whatsoever. I'm just saying one other person's where.

And I just figured it out from that early on, unless they were trying to throw you unless they were trying to throw you off in any way. But to me, they really never did. So. No, totally not. So in this one, we have the main character, Capra, who's played by Ray Sharkley, who is the police detective. And then we have the FBI agent individual. We also have a very young Michael Chick... Nicholas.

Yeah, and it's interesting because I thought Ray Sharkey and David B. Croft, neither of them were very memorable. And it shows you that Michael Chiklis is a good actor because he, in limited minutes, was actually pretty memorable. And it wasn't necessarily the fact that he...

different hats throughout the whole movie, whether it was a Boston Celtics and a Chicago Celtics hat was probably something he insisted on because he's a Boston sports fan. I mean, it's a little counterintuitive in a way because he's wearing a Celtics hat one minute, the next he's wearing a Yankees hat. I'm like, those

Those two don't usually correlate. Most Celtics fans are not Yankees fans and vice versa. But go with it, I guess. And later in the movie, he's wearing a San Francisco Giants hat. He still has hair underneath that hat, surprisingly. although he was probably balding like at the time he was this was right before he did the commish so he was probably starting to lose that hair you know it's interesting because he not that I want to go off on a whole tangent just about him but he I

looked at his credits and obviously he has a lot of television credits too but on like letterbox it was only 30 something film credits and i almost wonder if he got a little typecasted after the shield like i wonder if people thought this guy can really only play vick

Mackie because anything else I've seen him in he's basically playing Vic Mackie which is one of the you know most iconic television characters ever here he has a bit of that Vic Mackie in him when he gets into that chase with the pimp and he's like you know he's like stop. He's like, don't run from me, motherfucker. And all that stuff. Like, I'm like, there it is. There's a Vic Mackey and you already. Yeah. Yeah. What was the name of the movie? Um, the shallow that watched.

God, it's been a while ago. But the guy wore the glasses. Remember the sunglasses? It was all about his glasses. Oh, the reflective sunglasses, yes. Well, Suspicious Death of a Minor was the one that kind of did that. Strange Vice and Mrs. Ward has a small plot point with that where you see the reflection through the sunglasses during like a standoff scene. But Suspicious Death of a Minor is the one I think of with the reflective.

glasses yeah that's in this movie yes it totally is and the fact that these glasses like play a part and i might Michael Chiklis' hats played a part in this because I was watching after the second time he wore a different hat. I'm almost, like, eagerly waiting to see when he pops up on screen because every time you see him on screen, he's wearing a different hat. And it just –

odd to see how many hats this guy wore but anyways so uh capra played by ray sharky he is a a forgettable character but in the movie you know he's a police detective he's a drunk i guess you would almost call it you know heavy drinker and likes to party. And then Dalton, David Beecroft, who was the FBI agent, whatever. And then we got Tanya Coolridge, who played Adele. Adele was Dalton's ex-wife, Rich, head of this.

uh support group i guess it is drug addict recovering drug addict support group and the girls that are dying had connections to that support group, and that's what we're following. Again, very, very giallo plot point there. Right, right, totally. Adele, very attractive lady, very, extremely attractive. Especially for having kind of a butch haircut.

Yeah, and I looked her up just to see, what else has she been in? Nothing. Actually, she has. Days of Thunder. She's one of those models who probably got a chance to act. Sorry to interrupt. No, you're totally fine. No, she had totally been in a Van Halen pound cake. video she was in the rain killer days of thunder she played russ wheeler's girlfriend and she was in george michael's video pearl father figure

So that's who she was. Other than that, she did nothing else. She's married or was married, had three kids. I guess she did the role of being a mother, and that's great. But in this movie, her character, you know, there's... They needed a plot, and the only plot basically is we're following Capra's character who kind of falls for the ex-wife of the FBI agent.

cop and the fbi agent don't get along you know because they're i think who's got the bigger balls and then there's becomes the whole turmoil of you know who's banging my wife and you got this going on uh the red herring of rosewall Pops up. Woody Brown.

plays that character and we got this guy i mean there's a lot going in this it's just not going anywhere i'm waiting for like something to really happen and i'm not saying i was tired or bored but i'm just like there's not a lot going on in this movie like it's pretty simple this is one of the most simplest movies to follow I had just had a light bulb moment and I was trying to look it up I was looking to see if

Tanya Coleridge ever did any Playboy shoots purely for research purposes of course but apparently nothing turns up because a lot of those women who were in music videos normally did them I would have enjoyed seeing that but unfortunately no you know there were moments during this movie where I thought like, and maybe I want to know if you felt the same way where I'm like, where did this come from? Like there's a moment where, well, actually, I mean, really the first moment is when Adele and.

Capra Stark. like sleeping together like i'm like was there any tension in that with between them in that first scene like did i not am i am i seeing ghosts or something like what's going on here yeah and then another one is when dalton and capra

start getting into a fight when they're at a bar like randomly like one of them i think capra just punches him or something and i'm like where did that come from yeah like that doesn't seem like that needed to escalate that fast like there were a couple moments in this movie where i thought that

Overall, I mean, I never felt bored watching the movie. I'll say that much. It moves along at a good pace. It's just I wish kind of that there was more going on. And this may be a thing where because this is like an independent B movie, I think they could have. I don't think they went as. far into that noir vice side of it as they probably could have. This is not your...

you know, Lucio Fulci, New York ripper level of like sleaze and grime. And it's not like Martin Scorsese's taxi driver level either, even though I do like the nineties look to it. Cause I like nineties direct to video films and the way they look. look um normally they have a bit of culture to them like there's a lot of good background stuff in them like one of my favorite things in so many like 90s um dtv movies whether it's action films or any kind of film really is sometimes they'll be

near a store and you'll see, Oh, $2 hot dogs inside this convenience store. Like that's the kind of stuff I like in nineties movies. I know it's a small thing, but that's something I appreciate. And this film had some of that, like at the beginning, you've got like that sign that says like Los Angeles train tram or.

whatever yeah um and that's not something you you just don't see that as much in films anymore because so many of them aren't really shot on locations and dtv ones usually are shot in you know somewhere in the suburbs and they just kind of usually give you one location inside a house or something um so that's something i appreciated in this movie is it did have that it did have some cool like shadows and not necessarily neon colors but some color to it um

The middle of the plot, you start following someone else who becomes the main suspect. And I like that scene at the strip club and him going to the hotel room and everything like that. That felt kind of like out of a noir film in a way as well. Oh, totally, totally. And I did appreciate them taking this to California. You know, we've seen the New York.

films we've seen those films i like to kind of see in the seedy side of california in the 90s and uh going there and i thought that was really cool the way that they took it there and uh it was Like you said, I was never necessarily bored. It's just it just needed more. It needed more, you said it, red herons. You definitely needed at least one to two more suspects. I mean, that was without a doubt.

And I feel like if they would have brought somebody else in there that might have amped it up a little bit to where you're like, okay, but literally. listeners, I'm not lying. Like I knew, I kept telling Pearl, I was like, I think the killer is this. Now there was one moment when I kind of slid off of that and said, maybe it's this person. But then I came right back to that. I said, no. And then when it was revealed, I'm like,

I told you, man. That's not good. It's not good when I pick the killer right away in a Jallow film. That's never good. uh and i think a lot of people will catch it too so i don't think it's too shocking um did you like the the now the gore in this one there's really not a lot of gore there is murder there is you know stabbings these are done with blade which i

I really liked the instrument itself. I liked how they were putting trench coat type throwaway coats on and gloves. The killer was definitely smart with what they were doing. I did like the blade aspect of it.

Yeah, I mean, I thought the kills weren't stylistically shot by any means, but they were still pretty violent. Like they got the point across, you know, there's a couple of different stabbings with a knife and it's like a lot of stabbings. Like this killer is really going to town on people when when when they just.

side to stab them exactly yeah even like a almost like a jack the ripper rip of a body even though we don't really see the blood but you see the effect of what they're trying to do visually uh so i did appreciate that and it was done in the rain i like the rain kills because they even made a mention of it like maybe you know they're getting off on knowing that it's washing away the You know, they're washing them clean afterwards. I thought that was kind of a cool little say in there.

Yeah. And, um, that's also, I mean, not that they were, I don't know how much they were inspired by Dario Argento, but Dario Argento always has scenes in the rain and his films. It's part of my Dario Argento bingo card. If you remember correctly, uh,

What do you think about one of the taglines? They're two cops sharing everything. The woman they love, their hate for each other, the hunt for a killer. Good tagline. That ain't bad. I mean, sounds like a... soap opera across with a slasher film or something did this play like a soap opera do you kind of did yeah a little bit yeah now that i think about it yeah i was sitting here thinking like you just nailed it this did kind of play like a soap well even the

Even the cross cutting between Adele and Capra, you know, having sex and then like cutting to the strip club. And it's just like that feels soap opera. Yeah. Like, dude, what are we doing? And 90s was a big, big decade for soap operas, for sure. So, hey, maybe, whatever. This one was uncredited, but distribution producer was Roger Corman. Yeah, this was part of his...

It's a certain company that he had in the 90s that was producing these films. Califilm. Califilm, that's what it is. Music composer. I'm not, like, I'm even going back trying to even remember the music, and I can't really remember the score in this one, but Terry Plummery is the... Yeah, it's a lot of, like, synth crossed with saxophone and piano. Oh, yeah, the saxophone. I remember the saxophone now. You're right.

He did a movie. Have you ever seen The Showgirl Murders from 1996? No. Okay, so I guess he's credited with that. I don't know. I mean, now that you mentioned, I do remember the saxophone part of this movie, and I feel like I was almost, like, taken into the Lost Boys. Of course, his name happened now, or whatever his name was.

The shirtless saxophone player in the Lost Boys. Oh, what's his name? It's... Kappa something. Yeah, the guy who did... Tim Capello. Thank you, Tim Capello. Yeah, did I still believe... I still believe. Yeah. It's been like that. So it is kind of jazzy, the soundtrack. So now I'm thinking about it. Yeah, I do remember a little bit more than I thought I did.

Didn't have, like I said, a lot of effects, so there wasn't a lot of gore effects needed in this movie. You do got the nudity of one of the characters, and then you got another strip joint. type nudity so you got that going in it and just overall I mean it's shot dark like a lot of the scenes are dark and I think that's purposely made but for whatever reason it did it

It didn't really deter me from it, but at the same time, it was a little dark. I almost felt like I was watching a VHS rip sometimes, so I don't know. That was just me. Maybe a little bit. I mean, I still thought it looked pretty good. I mean, there is a darkness to it, though. Yeah, I will agree. But I still thought it looked pretty good. I have a couple of things of note here. Cinematographer. Janusz Kaminski

Went on to be the longtime cinematographer for a lot of Steven Spielberg's films, if you can believe that. Movies like Catch Me If You Can, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal... Skull, Minority Report, Jurassic World, Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Ready Player One, War of the Worlds, AI Artificial Intelligence. I mean, he went on to do some really good things. I mean, that's an understatement.

Yeah, well, it definitely wasn't from this movie. And the Fablemans, good Lord. There you go. I love the Fablemans. Again, everyone starts somewhere. A lot of people started with Roger Corman, even in the early 90s, I guess. Sure. Why not? And then producer, one of the producers who I think probably produced some films for Roger Corman's Cala film because he ended up directing one. It's an interesting name, Rodman Flender.

went on to direct Leprechaun 2 and Idle Hands. Oh, wow. Yep. Two really fun movies. Yeah, Idle Hands especially. I love that movie. It's such a fun movie, man. Great cast. I don't know, man. This movie is definitely worth a watch. I'm not going to say avoid this one. I think it's definitely worth a viewing. I would be curious if you guys and gals would watch it and then let us know if you caught the killer, how long it took you to figure it out. That's what I'd be curious.

was this something you pick up within the first few frames or is this something you you were surprised to the end i would really be curious about that but was you taken back or was you okay with who the killer was Oh, I was okay with it. I just wish, like I said, I wish there were a little bit more moving parts. I mean, in a way, I wonder if it would have been a better movie had they just told you who it was right at the beginning. Right.

and just let it unfold that way yeah totally and that's kind of uh after i watched this one on i was telling you off air ian but uh once i watched this on tubi then you know they always play a movie similar afterwards and everything And there was a couple movies that came on after it that were not Jallo, but they kind of had that police procedural aspect of it. And one of them, well, the first one that came on after it was a movie called The Banker.

And it plays, it's a 90s or late 80s action thriller is what I would call it. But it does play into the murder aspect. And it's got Robert Forster in it. It's got a freaking great cast in it. The movie is honestly lacking a lot, but at the same time...

It kind of feels like this movie. So I see why Tubi said, hey, we'll play this one next. And I'm not hating that I saw that one either. It's a little bit less for me than this one. But at the same time, I mean, you got Robert Forster in it. Good Lord. I mean, you need to watch it for that.

and then the one after that when i was telling you about was the jigsaw murders which was way worse than any of these movies but that's like i gave it like a two on letterbox and i look up and i gave my rating and i start looking around and i think um buddy ian west had watched it and i believe that might have been one that dave parker had watched as well and they weren't very big on it either but oh boy but anyways

Tubi, thank you for taking me down Tubi Hill tonight. That was a lot of fun. It was a few hours I can't get back at you, and I'm sorry. So what else you got on this movie, The Rain Killer? Not... too much that i can think of um i mean i thought the the there's a shootout that happens at the end the way

the killer gets discovered, I thought was actually pretty cool. And interestingly enough, it's actually kind of similar how the killer was discovered in both films that we're watching. Coincidentally. But I thought that that was pretty cool. I think it's pretty. cool that you have an fbi agent carrying a 45 caliber pistol and you've got the cop carrying the nine millimeter pistol i mean for gun enthusiasts out there that's that's kind of a fun sort of duality there

That is cool. Okay, so let's pass around ratings. IMDB gives us a 4.6 rating. I wish I would have seen... Now, these are American Jalos, so you're not going to catch what you get in Italian films. So you're not going to get necessarily the JB bottle. You're not going to get a lot of the Asher cigarettes or anything like that. But still.

I think there's some Johnny Walker in this. Isn't he drinking Johnny Walker at one point? He was drinking every time. Oh, and he's drinking wild turkey. Oh my gosh, wild turkey. Good gosh. Wild Turkey is the absolute worst. I would rather drink almost any kind of whiskey than that straight up. It's like Mad Dog. Oh, God. Wild Turkey. If you're ever going around passing out shots,

Like if you're, you know, hanging out with people at a bar, they say wild turkey. I'm like, I don't really feel like doing that. I mean, that's like that's like 10. If you're drinking wild turkey 101, that's like 10 percent. Well, 10 and a half percent stronger than like, you know, Jack Daniels. or jim beam i mean i'm like i'm out man that's funny dude uh so let's go to our ratings for the rain killer once again 1990 letter uh yeah 1990 i'm sorry

So this one, not a very long movie either. I didn't even give the time stamp on this one, but it's an hour and 30 minutes. And what you got on the rating for this one, Ian? I'm giving it, I think I'm going to give it a five and a half. I think there's certain things that made it just slightly above average for me. I just had a fun enough time watching it.

uh maria ford and her giant pepperoni nipples helps um so yeah five and a half from me dude that was the weirdest and i don't want to be degrading or anything but it was just i kept telling before i was like what in the world Oh, that was rude. I'm sorry. But anyways, 5.5 for Ian. Actually, I went with a 6. I'm like a 6.5 on this one. I actually had it at 3.5 star over on Letterboxd. I'm going to go 6.5. You liked it a little more than I did then.

And I think the reason is, is when we get into dance with death, I didn't like it quite as much. And where I rated it, I had to go a little bit higher on the rain killer than I did dance. This one, this one I could see being like, um, You know, a good movie to watch after like a few beers or something. You just want to throw something on and you just, you know, this one could be a good movie for that. Totally.

totally all right well cool uh so there you go 5.5 6.5 for me and now we're going into our last review of the night and this is the one that ian you chose uh the movie is called dance with death and here is the train In the downtown strip joints of East LA. Someone is watching. Same basic story. Stripper leaves club. Somebody slices her open. Waiting his turn. All right, where are you? To dance with death.

another murder a reporter named kelly what are you gonna do strip exactly i think i know who the killer is but as the list of suspects grows longer So does the list of victims. I'm here, Kelly. They come and get me. Maxwell Coffield, and the hottest, exotic dancers on film in Dance with Death. All right, Ian, take it away. What you got for a plot synopsis? All right, so I took this from an HBO Video VHS.

There's hot action both on and off the stage at the Bottom Line Club in L.A. One by one, their sexiest, steamiest strippers are being, that's a nice description, are being gruesomely murdered and no one seems to care except for journalist Kelly Crosby. Kelly persuades her editor to let her go undercover as a stripper, hoping to expose the murderer. She becomes Dominique and is hired to dance topless at the bottom line by unscrupulous owner Art, played by Martin Mull.

list of suspects grows longer so does a list of victims kelly may be getting closer to the killer but getting too close could prove fatal as she risks her life to reveal the murder and a deadly dance with death dum-dum-dum this one from 1992 and see what was the time stamp hour and 30 minutes on this one as well boom uh but yeah we got strippers in this one

yeah and a lot of it this movie was i you know i hadn't watched this since like i think november 2019 that's what my letterbox said wow so i had i had wondered okay first of all i had wondered would this pass as a geologist

I thought it would just because it is a murder mystery with someone trying to investigate there is a killer who wears like boots and I don't know if he wears I don't know if they wear black gloves but they're they're wearing some kind of mask like a ski mask so I figured that passed well enough What I didn't necessarily remember is this movie's like probably 60% Skinamax, 40% Thriller. Yeah, it is, totally. And the killer did have gloves on, so it does technically fall into that.

on any of the lists but I was determined I was like hey I kind of like this movie as like a sort of early 90s if you were throwing on the tv late at night and this came on you were watching it oh well yeah yeah totally and i i liked it because of that and i remember thinking it's kind of a cross between what we like like we like the the sleep

elements of giallo films we like the investigative elements and you know the the kills and everything like that not that there's too many of those in this but you have the cop teaming up with the reporter i mean it's it is it is giallo in that way Yeah, totally. This one was executive produced by Roger Corman once again with Concord Pictures. So, and it's mentioned that this one is kind of a reworking of Strip to Kill. I did watch Strip to Kill recently.

I have not seen it actually. Yeah, I'd actually watched that. I don't know if I actually put that in my letterbox. I'm trying to go back because it hasn't been that long ago. I think it was like maybe a month or two ago as I'm still looking. But anyways, I did watch Strip to Kill, and it does play a lot like Strip to Kill. It really does. So if you've seen Strip to Kill, you have seen this movie. And if you've seen this movie, you've seen Strip to Kill.

and i gotta say i'm thinking and i do not see where i freaking rated that one dude damn it but anyways i feel like i like strip to kill a little bit better for sure because i think i like the cast a little better but anyways so back to this one uh this one you were talking about immediately was Barbara Allen Woods.

You had mentioned her right away from One Tree Hill. Yeah, the basic, I mean, I remember her as the MILF from One Tree Hill. And I did watch One Tree Hill. It was actually a fun show, and it was filmed here in Wilmington where I live.

made it a little bit more because you know a lot of the set pieces when you live here you're walking around and you're watching the show and you know i know where that's at i've been there uh so it makes it fun but anyway she she's part of that and then you got maxwell caulfield Oh, my God. Pearl smile because that is one of the lead characters from Grease 2.

And a lot of people know him from Empire Records as well. That's his other big movie where he basically played Rex Manning. He played Rex Manning, who's I think supposed to be a Kurt Cobain stand-in of sorts in that film. Okay. Yeah. Maxwell's character, he plays a cop in this movie. He's on an undercover mission to find out who the killer is. And Kelly, played by Barbara Allen Woods. Well, this is your movie. Ian, what am I doing? You take it over, buddy.

Yeah, so Kelly, played by Barbara Allen Woods, she figures out that there are women being killed at the strip club. She's a very ambitious reporter, but her boss doesn't want her to go into investigating. She finds out that there's... like this sort of contest of sorts to... to have a full-time job at the strip club and she wants to get it so she can start investigating what's going on and she does end up getting the job uh much to the owner's uh chagrin because he basically says she moved

is like a zombie on stage and that she's too modest, which is to be expected for a person who's never done that kind of line of work. But then she ends up, you know, starting to work there and she teams up with the cop who's played by Maxwell Caulfield, who plays a cop named. Shaughnessy to try to find who the killer is and why they've been doing it, basically.

exactly and there that's the plot yeah there's not much else to it but you know it's not there's no there's no convoluting to it um or there's nothing convoluted to it i should say more grammatically correct and uh There's a good amount of red herrings, none of which I don't think you really think any of these red herrings could be the killer, but there's still enough of them to throw you off and keep things interesting. That's true, and I will agree with that. I probably can't.

maybe four, possibly five right off the bat, and I'm thinking in my head. I did watch this about three or four days ago, but I remember probably four or five red herons off the bat. So I appreciated that, right? And I think the reveal of the killer, were you pleased with the reveal of the killer? Was you shocked?

The first time I saw this, I was a little surprised by it. There are a couple of things that are a little telegraphed on rewatch, but actually not as much as I would have thought. I actually think it's still... Holds up pretty well upon rewatch.

to not necessarily think oh this person actually is the killer like there are a couple things there but there's actually not as much there as i would have thought it was it was still pretty surprising i mean i remembered who it was but i was looking for signs the whole way they're really only one or two that i could find and and a couple of them were really just incidental more than anything else right i love that martin mole plays the club owner in this on the strip club club owner

I love Martin Mole, man. He's just hilarious. And his character in this one's fun. And then the DJ that's... uh kind of hot on all the girls and always misses the boat because they're usually lesbians so he's kind of out but uh that character's fun too so a lot of the cast this is a fun watch

it just doesn't deliver at the end of the movie for me. It just never really fully impacted me. I mean, you got a bunch of girls dancing, you got, you know, the red herons going on, but it just really never... I don't know, it was just something about it I just never really connected solid with. Yeah, and to what you're saying, I mean, this movie has a decent cast to it. Martin Mull, obviously, from movies like Clue, longtime character actor.

Michael McDonald from Mad TV, stand-up comedian playing Henry, who's like one of the biggest red herrings in this movie. He also went on to play Little John in Halloween Kills. Yeah. I love Little John. Hey, little John. Hey, big John. And then you got Lisa Kudrow in a, you know, a small appearance before she was in Friends. Yeah. Drew Snyder, who plays the editor.

I remember him from Commando, the Arnold Schwarzenegger film. He's like one of the first guys to get killed in that movie. There's like part early on in Commando where he's like in bed and his wife, she's like, hey, the garbage man's outside. He ends up getting killed by.

Bill Duke is posing as a garbage man. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I've seen him somewhere. I was trying to, it was that, I mean, he's been in a ton of stuff, but that's what I remember him from. Okay. All right. Fair enough. Yeah. He's definitely recognizable and his character, you know, he's the,

owner, or not the owner, but the head of the editor of the newspaper place or whatever. What did you think on the score of this movie? I'm actually... kind of having a hard time remembering it truth be told same same that's the thing like i don't remember too much about it that's the same with me i'm sitting here remembering i know they played a few songs because of the strippers so you had the music to dance to But other than that, I really honestly do not recall there being...

i know there's a score but i don't remember it i just don't yeah i remember the score from the rain killer a little bit more than i remember the one for this one at least that had like a more distinctive saxophone and piano exactly uh the kills in this movie they're There are a few I don't, they're not memorable in my opinion. There's nothing that really, I never really felt any of the kills were just portrayed really well. I think they were off camera or quick.

kills right yeah i mean um i think there's some good suspense sequences though the kills themselves not that great but the uh the suspense sequence like when that one uh that the second stripper who gets killed leaves and she like takes out her mace for a second and there's no one around, or then there's...

Then there's, you know, the part when she gets trapped inside the phone booth. I thought that that was actually a pretty memorable sequence, even if the kill isn't especially graphic. Towards the end of the film, you get a really good basically slasher style chase. Yes. At least to me, where. Kelly's having to take cover and having to improvise against the killer who we've seen. I won't say who, I won't say specifics, but I will say the killer.

demonstrates early on in the film that they are very competent in hand-to-hand combat. and much stronger and physically imposing compared to her so she has to come up with different ways to fight them and it's actually interesting how she goes about that at the end totally i love that scene that's the best part of the movie for me was just watching that uh chase sequence and what all took place at the end i loved that and the reveal the killer was like i had

chosen that person early but then had got off of that person then went back to the person so it wasn't i'm not gonna say it was a hundred percent surprise but it wasn't a hundred percent known either so i give them props for that to me there are different credible things

for these red herrings like there are different things that make them believable enough to be the killer even if you're like well it still screams red herring but there are things that are credible enough for a bunch of them to think well maybe they could be yeah exactly uh sometimes till you

You got to watch because like in some of the Italian giallo films, you'll think you'll have a killer pick because of a body style. And sometimes they'll throw you a curve and it won't even be that body. It's like, ah, so you can't necessarily believe everything you see.

well and it's you know plenty of a plenty of giallo films have you know plenty of giallo films are do unfold like this where the killer ends up being kind of you know as um let's just say like this i'll just say that you know it's like there are plenty of them that are like this where the killer ends up being this person who ends up being the killer here yeah so

Totally. Let's see what else we got on this one. Because we don't have, of course, any dubbing necessarily in these movies, I don't think. I think they were all speaking without dubbing. No. uh so we do have that going uh the director charles phillip moore did you feel

the pace of this movie was done well like i i honestly thought it was i didn't yeah i thought it was pretty good yeah i didn't think it was slow or anything like that i just feel like and i really want you ian when you get time to watch strip to kill and just see what you think and and see how close in comparison because after reading and watch i was like man it is it is exactly strip to kill it's like it's really close to being what strip to kill is uh which was a 1980

788, something like that film. I saw it. I think it was on like YouTube or Tubi or something. I'd seen it. It's out there to stream. You can watch it. He also, so Charles Philip Moore, he also directed a film called Demon Wind from 1990, a horror movie. Do I know that? I feel like I know that. Not too many people in it that I know. Stephen Quadros I've heard of. He's the only actor that I know of. Eric Larson is the star of it, apparently. He also directed a movie called Angel of Destruction.

where, coincidentally enough, Maria Ford plays an undercover cop chasing a serial killer. What are you going to do? Yeah, I actually have watched this, The Demon Wind. I don't know why I watched it, but I do remember watching this. It's a really cheesy poster, like on the IMDb page. I must have been bored one day watching this. I don't know. I mean, it's just... It's a fun film without it being a great film, so it's like I can't fully tell you that this is one that you must rush out and see.

But I think it's worth watching, right? I think purists should check it out for sure. It definitely hits shallow, so it definitely qualifies in my opinion. Yeah, I would. I that's one of the reasons why I wanted to do it. And I think Barbara Allen Woods saves this movie quite a bit because like she's really credible as like the feisty reporter. She's believable enough as this modest woman who's trying to be a stripper, and it works well enough for her because of how she looks.

You know, one of us should probably say it, so I'll do it. Barbara Allen Woods has really nice boobs. I'm just going to say that. And it's funny because at a point in the movie, you know, when she does her first dance, she's, you know, people are talking like one of those, one of them even says something like the only thing that. That's going to save her now is if she has really nice. Yeah. One of the dancers. And they both said, yeah, they're nice.

That's funny. I do remember that quote now. Because she was horrible when she first came out on stage. She just didn't know what to do as one wouldn't. you know, it's, it's actually believable that she doesn't really know what to do. There's so many fun lines early on in this movie. Like when she's talking to the editor and she says, I'm a reporter, not a social light. And I refuse.

used to go to any more charity functions how about another one never shouted a man trying to recover from a hangover her editor uh says to her so there's there's a lot of there's a lot of good ones um oh uh another one i enjoyed was the part when the dj's talking to some i think he's talking to art actually And he's like, is it possible that I could get with that girl? And he's like, well, I guess if the Berlin Wall can come down, anything's possible.

Did you get pervy feelings? Here's the thing. She, when I'm talking about Barbara, is posing as a stripper, right? She gets this job. And what happens on her first night is her editor-in-chief and this girl show up. And she's got a strip in front of him. And this guy's acting as pervy and as celebratory as anybody I've ever seen in my life. Well, he actually ends up getting her the job, whether it's intentionally or not. Yeah, I mean.

And she, I think... I think Lisa Kudrow's character is there more to help her than anything else, because it's like seeing someone familiar in the crowd who's obviously not trying to be leery might actually help and encourage her, which she actually does at one point.

tries to tell her like take your she's motioned her to take your strap off and do it she's like giving her motions to do but i was just getting a kick out of watching the editor-in-chief just be such a sleazy guy out here just like oh and he's jumping this is like it's your your your employee this ain't right dude but i get what you're saying he did have to do it to get her the job and she did because it was my uh my vote was because this was an amateur night

So you basically had to have a applause meter. So he definitely got it built up for us. So there you go. He did his job. Well, and there are other believable moments like the look, I'm not going to sit here and deny that I haven't been to one of these kind of places before. Right. So there's a moment where. she's trying to talk i think to jody and she's and jody says to her like you're a terrible liar and it's it's a believable thing because she wouldn't know how to do that and

obviously strippers, anyone in that kind of industry has to be good at lying to people. It's part of the job or they have to be good at misleading people at least. Yeah, totally. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Cool. We'll dance with death. Once again, an hour and 30 minutes. It plays just like the other movie. I wasn't bored. It needed some extra. uh work on the script it just needed a little something else I thought that Maxwell Caulfield because I know him now

since Pearl, being with Pearl, and she watches Grease 2 on a regular basis. You know, I know him because of Cool Rider. Who? Yeah, and Empire Records, which Ian's mentioned. But I haven't watched Empire Records as many times as I have Grease 2 with Pearl.

just knowing from that so i'm watching it and and i'm like okay i know you do i know you do whatever he's believable as a tough cop oh he is i will say yeah yeah his character is actually a very believable character for what he has to play so i give him props on that Barbara's character is believable at what she's doing. Uh, and she gets a little bit better and I feel like she actually ends up becoming.

a little more comfortable with the position and almost like she, I felt like she just wanted to become a stripper and to stay stripping is what it felt like to me. Like she was really getting, or maybe she was just that good. As the movie went on, it did seem like she got into it a little bit more. Yeah. I think it was the three.

thrill and the excitement and people you know giving her the attention and everything but i feel like if you watch it just let us know if maybe that's the way the character was going i felt like it was it's a very cool poster i think the poster art's really cool it looked good on a shelf or on a wall

somewhere. There's a girl straddling a gun. I thought that was kind of cool. There are two different posters and both of them are cool. There's one that has a dark background and then there's one that has a lighter background and both of them are pretty cool. Yeah, definitely. I feel like Ian, you should have that on your wall.

That would be a fun one. Yeah, I could probably put it in this podcast room. Actually, my living room is pretty full of posters. My living room is basically my own personal man cave because I live alone. Yeah, obviously. Might be it might be fun to have in this podcasting room. I don't have too much in here besides a big like. yingling poster so yeah

Um, and before I forget, I just like to say, Barbara Allen Woods was also in the Chucky TV series. She has a fairly big role in that. Oh, I forgot. I have only watched like two episodes of that. She plays like the mayor of the town and she's kind of a jerk. She's the mother of, um,

There are three main characters that are kind of like young teenagers, and she's the mother of the girl, and that's actually her daughter. That's one of three of Barbara Allen Woods' daughters playing that part. Her other daughter, I want to say... It's Natalie Lind is in the second babysitter movie. She's like the, she's the blonde girl in the second babysitter movie. Okay. Yeah. All right. Well, cool. Well, you got anything else to add or are you ready for ratings, brother?

No, not that I can really think of. I mean, I talked about it earlier, but I do like that final chase. That final chase may maybe not be quite as good as something out of a great slasher film, but it's up there. It's close. good sort of final cat and mouse chase.

I agree. I still, I think I prefer, even though it wasn't necessarily a chase, but if, if you go back to the rain killer, I kind of liked the ending of that with the shootout and everything a little bit better, but I do like the chase sequence in this one. But that's just me. I think there were some people in certain groups I'm in giving us a little bit of grief over these choices, specifically the Rain Killer. And you know what I...

I enjoyed these movies fine. I didn't think that they were amazing, but they were, they were well enough worth a watch and a good talk on the show for sure. Yeah, absolutely. I'm totally cool with it, Nat. So, uh, I'll start out my rating. I I'm a little bit less than the rain killer on this. This one, I'm a six. I say watch it, man. Give it a check out. Nothing to rush out for, but it's available for free to watch on...

to be, uh, I think it was, was this the tube or the prime one? I can't even remember now, but anyways, this is the prime one. I think it goes, I think it's on, it might be on like free V as well. I think it's off of a maybe, well, no, it might actually be shout TV through prime actually. Either way. So check it out if you've got your prime video and watch it when you get time. Nothing to rush out for. But what about you, Ian? What did you come in with? I'm giving it a six.

I enjoyed it not quite as much as the first time I saw it, but I think that that's because I've seen so many movies of this variety that this one doesn't feel quite as good as some of those, but it's still a fun time. Nice. All right, so what we're going to do, let's go ahead and I'll go to Ian to give us what the next episode is about. We also have a voicemail, which turned into two voicemails.

And we'll get to that here and answer any questions that may be in that voicemail. So we got that before we close out. But what's the next episode going to be? So we are going to do a Giallo movie from 1972 called So Sweet So Dead, also known as... The slasher is the sex maniac. You can find that the best possible print is on the Giallo Realm channel on Odyssey, and I'll post a link to it in the Facebook group.

And I guess if you're not a member of the Facebook group, just message me on Facebook or something. I think that that might be the code red Blu-ray print, which I do own. I will also take that link and I'll put it in the show notes as well so everybody can go there as well.

Yeah, So Sweet, So Dead. That's the best possible print you can find. You can find a much lesser print and probably even a shorter version of the film on Dailymotion or on YouTube. What I was going to say, I was struggling with it for a minute. Odyssey, I think you can find... So in terms of the link, you can play it on the website, but you can HDMI it through your computer. You can AirPlay it through your phone. You might be able to find it on the app, on the Roku.

on roku tvs although i don't think the app handles very well like if you search for it you you might have a hard time harder time finding because the app is not particularly good so air playing it or hdmi it through your laptop would probably work better And then the other film we're doing is Footprints, also known as Footprints on the Moon. And that is available on Shudder. Nice. I got both of them coming on Blu-ray. I cannot wait if they'll hurry up and ship.

So hopefully that'll be here soon. So there you go. So sweet, so dead. Also known as slasher is a maniac and footprints. So check those out. If you would, we'd love for you to go ahead and. And watch them ahead of time so you can kind of follow along with us. If not, listen to what we say and ask if you should watch them or not. That's the way to do it. But let's go ahead and get to this voicemail, Ian. I'm curious. It's Chris Bartoli. So let's see what Chris has brought to the table.

Hey, Black Web Mysteries. Chris Batoli from Western Mass here. I hope you guys are all doing well. And I actually did my homework this week. Well, half of it anyways. I did watch The Rain Killer from 1990 for American Jallow Month. And so, you know, I just want to talk about that movie for a little bit. So I guess we'll start with the characters. You had the main detective there was Lin Capra. He's kind of like you're burnt out.

alcoholic type kind of fed up with his job you know he's kind of let you know the tough you know punch him out cop whatever and of course he ends up banging his fbi partner's ex-wife and speaking of the fbi uh partner because they have the you know they bring the fbi in to solve these murders because all these women are getting murdered whenever it rains in la and which is weird because you don't think la gets a lot of rain but in this movie they do because there's quite a few killed

quite a few kills and i'll tell you one thing i can say the kills were pretty good i did like them and so then you get this the fbi guy and right off the bat they team those two up and of course they don't get along it's you know the same old same old with that

And so then, of course, they're doing their investigation and all of a sudden they decide that we're just going to show up at Dalton, the FBI agent's ex-wife house. Hey, why not? Right. Pay her a visit. And of course, later that same night.

capra shows up at the by himself at the house and of course what happens yeah they're gonna have a little sex i guess why i have no idea but uh and the wife was named adele actually she even with the she had really really short short hair which i'm not it doesn't not a big thing for me but she still was kind of she was she was really pretty still but just the hair was kind of short and then you've also got detective reese which is capper's partner whatever

And I'm watching this and I'm like, okay, what's with all the baseball caps? They're all different, all different, very colorful, all different teams, all different cities, all different sports. Celtics were... one of his hats so i guess he did represent boston so that was cool but first i didn't know if he was supposed to be like a buffoon or what but then at the end he kind of has that you know he toughens up so that was pretty good uh

as far as like the score the saxophone was a little bit much for me it but i guess that was kind of the times you know and then uh also they when they throw in i can't is the guy's name ros roswell

So you get this random guy, picks up a stripper at a strip joint, is going to pick her up for prostitution, beats the shit out of her pimp, brings her to a hotel. He's got this metal briefcase with... every with all these freaking knives in it i'm like okay she dies accidentally right when i have sex i'm like okay so basically this guy deserved to be framed because what kind of idiot does that shows up with all these knives He got cut off, so let's go to his next one. Did you notice in that...

big suitcase. He has a huge dildo. I actually did not. That got past me. Are you serious? I'll have to see it. It may have been there, but it just didn't register with me. This thing's like... looks like 16 inches long teach their own i guess is that the is that the john holmes mold yes oh this is straight up the john holmes mold it was huge man i'm like what in the world

Let's go to this last call here. Hey, guys. Chris Batolegan. Sorry about that. I can't believe I got benched on the double-double button. Anyways, I think pretty much I said everything I was going to say about the movie. The only thing I can say also, one other thing, is that Roswell and Dalton, sometimes I would actually mix.

mixed them up like I'm watching the movie and for some reason they look so much alike to me and I was just kind of mixing them up at times but that was that but other than that it wasn't a horrible movie I mean it wasn't a great one If I had to rate it out of 10, it would probably be like a 6.5 maybe. I can't say I would never watch it again, but it's nothing I would purchase or anything like that. But you know what? Other people might really like it. But that's all.

Um, that's it. That's all I got. Love you guys. Keep it up and keep it jally on. Bye. Hey, see that man? We both seemed like 6.5. Yeah. And he said some of the same things that.

We both talked about, obviously, Michael Chiklis' assortment of ball caps. The Celtics hat could have even been his hat for all I know. He's a huge Celtics fan. He's talked about how playing Red Auerbach on the Winning Time TV show was... like a dream come true for him uh and yeah the part when capra and adele have sex that's exactly what i was saying i'm like that just comes so out of nowhere like it's like

what is going on? Yeah. Yeah. I still don't understand it, but I guess you got to have something to keep the movie going. A little bit of espionage. but there you go so that is the episode guys rain killer and dance with the dead or dance with the death and our next episode once again 1972 so sweet so dead also footprints so check that out

Out. Did you hear that? That sounded very mute. So Footprints was from 19... Let me make sure because there is a couple Footprints movies I think out there. I think there's another one similar. So Footprints was not... uh 2011 uh clearly we're in the hello 1970 i guess i'm going to type it in as footprints 1970 movie

Oh, 1975. So 1975 Footprints, that's the movie you're looking for, listeners. And that's a way of completing all of Luigi Bazzoni's Giallo movies, because he also did The Possessed and The Fifth Chord. Nice. So, so you'll have all of them. You have to go back and listen to those other episodes. All right. Well, cool. Well, Ian, what do you got in closing and what do you got for your final plugs? Uh, so you can find me on Twitter.

uh blue sky and instagram uh twitter uh also now known as x uh at ursonomics same name on all those you can uh follow me on letterboxd if you type in my name and you can add me on facebook book if you want nice and we'll post that link for um for the movie in the show notes as well as you know do it in the facebook group page so that way you can follow the movie along

Might be a little bit harder to find. We'll make it easy as we can for you. So there you go. So for me, I'm going to hold my outros for the end of the episode. We've still got Mortis Vision coming up, so stay tuned for that. I do want to mention, if you will, head over to landofthecreats.blogspot.com.

com and go to the store uh over on the right hand side of the toolbar if you go over there and click on the store we got some new shirt designs out there pearl's making some new ones too i believe she's got some other stuff coming uh so some new items over there for you to choose from and they're looking really cool starting to see some of the uh facebook group people posting pictures of them they're looking kind of cool i'm liking it i'm liking it so go get you some

And we'll see what else Pearl comes up with. Maybe another black glove, love. We don't know. Yeah, well, she says it's coming, Ian. We got us another black glove coming. cannot wait if you don't go back looking forward to it yeah go get the the other one we got ian and i on the cover man it's so fun i love that shirt wear it a lot uh just super exciting man if you've never seen that shirt

Please go buy that shirt, man, and wear it. I swear, I want to see as many people wearing it, so if Ian and I ever see you out in a while, we'll be like, ah, she's dirty there! That'd be so freaking awesome. So anyway, so with that said, we're going to hop off here. Stay tuned for Mortis Vision. And until the next episode, like we always like to say, get your jally on. Peace. LOTC presents Mortis Vision with Greg Amortis and the Twisted Temptress.

Welcome to Mortis Vision with the Mortises. I'm your host Greg Amortis along with the Twisted Temptress. That's right, the love of my life. Pearl, what's up babe? Nothing, because the TV is off. That's right. So now I'm looking at a blank screen. The story of our lives, blank screen love. I love it. But we're back. This is episode 412, double double 54.

if you're keeping up and you just heard black glove mysteries and had a good time there so now we're over here at mortis vision and tonight we're doing a little something different love yeah we're playing Who should we play? Siskel and Ebert? Siskel and Ebert. That's a good one. Okay. Okay. Two guys. Well, one guy that I really didn't care for. But yeah, that's cool. Well, just doing ourselves then. That's right. We're doing Pearl and Greg.

And basically what we're going to be doing tonight is looking at some new 2025 films to be released that have not been released yet. Or if they have, they're just within, because we're literally only a couple weeks into January, right? Yep. And we're just going to look and give our thoughts on what we think might happen or whether we think they're going to be good or whether we think they're going to be bad and see if our predictions come out right at the end of the year.

Right? It'll either be a yay or a nay. A yay or a nay, and we're going to see if we kind of play this out right. Yeah. Yeah. So we picked a few movies. Pearl's got a few. I've got a few we're going to look at. Some of these will be theatrical releases. Some of these will probably be straight to streaming or video. That's weird to say straight to streaming.

Back in the day, it used to be straight to video. And now you got to say straight to streaming. I know. This is odd. But anyways. Yeah. Yeah. We don't want to go down that rabbit hole right now. No. we don't so we're gonna avoid that one uh but what we'll do is look at some of these 2025 films that are soon to be released and give our little thoughts about it maybe give you a little bit of a

uh read imdb or something synopsis or something uh maybe go over a couple things and see if we think we might like this or if we think it's going to be hot garbage or whatever and like i said by the end of the year when all these movies releases we can go back and

listen to this episode 412 and be like, either Pearl and Greg were right or we were completely wrong. I love it. So that's what we're going to do tonight. We're super excited. So I think without further ado, love, I think we'll just get right into this thing. All right.

All right, you want to take the first one? Sure. Yay. Okay, my first pick for 2025, the sequel to The Black Phone. What we know of it so far is that... ethan hawk reprises his role as the grabber we do have uh finnie gwen and robin reprising their role as well they do not give details when you look up this movie but all they say is you will be coming face to face with the

grabber once again the grabber that and that's what we're all about yes because the grabber was one of the coolest killers okay how do you one of the coolest elements of any film of 2024 3 23 Yeah, because abduction is very scary. It is, but like Ethan Hawke's character was so freaking well done. Oh yeah. Like it was creepy, like legit nightmare fuel.

And if they can still hit that same atmosphere and that same spirit, I think it'll do great. I think so too. Personally, I feel like it doesn't need one. It was a standalone movie to me. But since we're getting a sequel... possibly prequel mentioned in in in its description I hope that they do give us at least some backstory of the Grabber before, like, maybe his first subduction or maybe, like, the reason why the Black Phone is an issue. Yeah, I mean, that could...

That could warrant a fun watch. Maybe find out why... minor spoiler if you've not seen it, or major spoiler, whatever you want to call it, but the phone ringing downstairs. Maybe we can find out why these were happening, right? Yeah, I mean, but, I mean... So many conclusions can come up with this one because, I mean, like I said, you got most of them reprising their role, especially Robin, who we know died in the first one. Right. Something's going to come up. Yeah.

So I don't know. Are you excited, though? You think it's going to be a good one? How do you feel? I'm 50-50, to be honest. I want to say no. But then part of me thinks like they have something good that might come up. So I'm a 50-50. I'm kind of like this. I feel like it was like you said. I thought it should have been a one and done. I don't really need to see more black phones personally. We'll see it.

We'll watch it. Maybe we'll like it. Maybe we won't. I'm going to go on the limb and I'm going to put my prediction out and I'm going to give it a thumbs down. I don't think it's going to be that good.

Well, then I'm still going to give it that thumbs up to Rachel the 50-50. All right, so there you go. We're doing our Siskel and Ebert. Pearl's giving it a thumbs up. I'm giving it a thumbs down. I don't think it's going to do well. I think it's going to be a bomb. I don't think it's going to be that good of a movie. Yeah. Cool. See how we're doing this list? Everybody's screaming at us. I'm on Team Pearl. I'm on Team Greg. Can't we just be on the same team all together, right?

all right so i'll take my first film here and this one actually had technically love a release okay It actually released this Monday as we're recording as a mystery movie. So a few of the people in the Facebook group, I know Greg Bench, I think. Amanda Lee and some others got a chance to pre-screen this movie. But I think it doesn't physically release nationwide until like January 31st.

So, but the movie we're talking about is called Companion. Companion. And this is from Drew Hancock. And it stars Sophia Thatcher, who, if you've seen the movie Heretic, you will know she was one of the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. uh missionaries that was out there that went to see hugh grants or hugh

Sister Barnes. Is it Hugh? What's his name again? Hugh Grant. Hugh Grant. Thank you. Good Lord. I did this, I think, over at J of the Dead or somewhere. I called him Hugh Jackman. It's not Hugh Jackman. Hugh Grant. But anyways, she's one of the sisters. So she plays the main character in this one. And you got Harvey Gillian.

Jack Quaid, who is Dennis Quaid's and Melanie Griffith's only child. Hello. He looks like Dennis Quaid, by the way. But looking at the cast, man, Lucas Gage is in this movie. Mark. Menchaca. Yep. We know him from Alone Love from 2020. You just reviewed this. So looking at the cast, I'm actually encouraged with the cast. But here's the plot synopsis according to IMDb. It's very vague. a billionaire's death sets off a chain of events

for Iris and her friends during a weekend trip to his lakeside estate. Now, I am not going to spoil this for you guys like the trailer spoiled for me. I feel like this movie should be seen without knowing what one of the characters is. But unfortunately the trailer gives you away the plot.

So don't watch the trailer. Do not watch the trailer. If you've already watched it, I'm sorry. You know exactly what I'm talking about. If you have not watched the trailer, I'm not going to spoil it for you, but there is a character. that there's something with a character. So for me, this movie I don't think is going to play into horror necessarily, even though it calls dark comedy, psychological thriller.

Sci-fi. I feel this may hit the sci-fi realm more than horror, but I'm actually really excited. I'm going to tell you why. The concept of it, we've seen a movie recently that... looks like it may play a little bit like this. And this may be a minor major spoiler, but Megan Fox was the star of that movie. I feel like this might be a little bit of the same type retelling of that story.

yeah subservient subservient or whatever subservient or whatever it was so i feel like this might be kind of in the same realm but i really enjoyed the one with megan fox i thought it was great yeah it was good it was really good so i'm i'm encouraged over this one. And I'm, I'm mainly encouraged because I saw something in Sophia Thatcher that excited me.

I saw a fire in her as an actress that makes me want to watch more of her catalogs now. So I'm excited for this movie. I think this one is actually going to be a thumbs up. I think it's going to do well. I just don't think it's going to hit necessarily in a horror world. Now, that's just my opinion. I've not watched it.

i didn't really read what greg and amanda said so i'm keeping this is just i've seen the trailer and i feel like this is going to hit some lists but probably not being in a top 10 horror list I can see that. I, too, am going to give it a thumbs up. I think it's just a movie that people are going to just enjoy. Yes. Yeah. And, I mean, looking at the cast, you've got to enjoy, you know, if we're really breaking it down, this thing's got a really...

really strong cast, in my opinion. Yeah. So that has me encouraged. It's a Warner Brothers distribution through New Line Cinema. Uh, had a little bit of money behind it and love, check this out. Only an hour and 37 minutes. Nice. Thank you. Thank you. Filmmakers for giving us these short. or I say short, regular films now of an hour and a half-ish. So when you go to the movies, be prepared to watch anywhere from five minutes to 20 minutes of trailers and commercials. God, it's so frustrating.

So that's going to be my first movie. So we're both giving thumbs up to Companion. What's your next movie though? My next movie is a movie that I did not want. it to be made because of the cast and god forbid i know there are a lot of people who like the people that are in the cast but i'm particular because of a certain character oh this one is the bride the bride Christian Bell will be Frankenstein. Jessa Bunkley will be the bride.

And you got Annette Bening and you got Penelope Cruz in this. And it's supposed to be said in the 1930s as a lonely Frankenstein travels to seek an aid of a doctor. and creating a companion for himself the two invigorate a murder of a young woman and the bride is born she is beyond either of them intended and igniting combustion romance

and the attention of the police and the wild society of the movement. Huh. Yeah. Okay, so directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, which is the sister of Jake, right? Yes. I like her. She's got talent for sure, so I'm curious on her direction. I can see that. But wasn't somebody attached? Wasn't Angelina Jolie attached to this at one time? That was almost three years ago where they did wanted her.

frankly i would have been pleased yeah i mean she's a beauty she she's still wet she can do this whatever happened they changed it i mean even i don't know they had some different other ones but then once christian bell came in A lot of it changed, and I'm putting the blame on him. You heard it, Christian. You're the fault. You're the fault of this movie. And I can't get over his voice as Batman. Sorry. It echoes in my ear.

Will I wash this? Of course I will because I aim for anything about the bride, but at the same time too. I am struck between this. I want to say 50-50, but I'm going to give it a thumbs down for now. Okay, so Christian Bale playing Frankenstein's monster. Jake Gyllenhaal's in this movie. Penelope Cruz, what a beauty, but... I and Julianna Hoff, Dancing with the Stars, fame.

Peter Skarsgård. I'm going to give this a thumbs down. I don't think that I'm even actually interested in this one, to be honest with you. So I'm giving this one a thumbs down. I think this is going to be a bomb. yeah i mean yeah i just really do i don't think i just feel like i don't know what the director saw because he probably sees more than what obviously what we do but the cast alone Seeing what I've seen in every one of their movies, I feel like it's just not the right cast. Yeah.

All righty. Well, there you go. The bride. And we don't really have a date yet for that one, right? It's just slated. Oh, yeah. Sorry. You know what? Let me backtrack the phone. Black Phone 2 will come out October 17. Okay. And The Bride is set to come out September 26. Alright, so I'm going to backtrack to Black Phone 2. The fact that it's coming out during Halloween is telling me it's going to get a lot of views because of the fact that it's a Halloween.

uh release movie so there's gonna be a lot of people hit the theaters to watch it i'm still gonna keep to my my thumbs down but it's definitely gonna get a lot of people watching yeah so there you go All right, so next one up is going to be mine. And this movie is going to release February 7th. And this might be my...

my most anticipated movie of the year. I've already seen the trailer for, I know I don't like trailers, but damn it, when you're in the theater, it's hard not to watch them. And I have seen this trailer three times now, I believe. And damn, am I excited. The movie is only an hour and 30 minutes long. Thank you. But it's called Heart Eyes. Holy shit. Does this movie look fun? It did. This is a Valentine's movie. So we're going to get us finally another Valentine's.

killer movie like my bloody valentine i'm sure uh the cast well it's directed by josh rubin let's get that out of the way um but here it is like the cast itself there's someone that you'll enter uh that you'll understand or understand you'll recognize eyes. Devin Sawa. Love Devin Sawa. What a freaking talent. One of the characters, it looks like he's going to be one of the main cast members or one of the main characters in the movie. Maybe even like a, what would you call him?

final guy or final guy or gal type scenario, but, um, it's none other than, uh, Mason. Okay. So his name is, uh, Mason Gooding. And, yeah, Cuba Gooding. There you go. You know Mason then. But he was in the Scream 5, Scream 6. He was one of the four, what do they call themselves, the something four. Oh, and Scream 6 or whatever, 5 or 6. They called themselves the... Everyone's yelling at us right now. I don't remember. They called them something for the... The Final Four or something? The Fat...

famous for, what anyways, but anyway, they had their own group. But Mason was one of those. You got Olivia Holt, who plays Allie, and I'll leave it there, okay? But basically, this is going to set up... Much like a serial killer slasher film, okay? Or a slasher film. For the past several years, Heart Eyes Killer has wreaked havoc on Valentine's Day by stalking and murdering romantic couples this Valentine's Day.

No couple is safe. The killer is what I love about this movie. He has this mask and the eyes are heart-shaped lit up. Perfect. I'm telling you. I am going to be super excited for this movie. I can't wait until opening night. I don't know. We'll have to make sure on February 7th if we're recording or not. Hopefully we're not recording. We can get to the theater to watch this on opening night.

I am giving this movie two thumbs up. I think this one is going to do awesome for us slasher fans, and I think it's going to do awesome for horror fans. Double thumbs up on this one. I'm super excited. I'm excited too. I'm actually am going to give this one a thumbs up as well because it also says that it has somewhat of an 80s style vibe. Nice. So yeah, it's heart as...

Super pumped, guys. This is going to be it. February 7th. Get to the theater. Let's all love us at Land of the Creeps. Do our part. try to save up a little bit of money if you have to and get to the theater and let's flood it all all over this country all in if it's released in germany if it's released in new zealand australia you know china wherever you're at

I want you, if it's in that theater, save up some money and be there to watch this movie because I want everybody to look back and say, damn, Land of the Creeps, you know, they represented right here. And if you have a Land of the Creeps shirt, take a picture of it. you in front of the theater or in front of the movie posters showing that you went to watch it and i send it to us email the picture to greg and mortis 666 at gmail.com or if you're in the facebook group

post it so we can get it. Cause man, I think it would be exciting to see everybody representing LOTC in front of hard eyes, man. But I'm super excited. Probably my most anticipated movie for the year right now. Right. All right, Pearl, what you got next? What I got next is one of my favorite smart deviant, like, he's not a killer, but he lets them do it themselves. It's Saw 11. Yes. Reprising the role.

It's Tobin Bell, though he has stated that this is his final one because of his age. How many has he said is his final one? Because he wasn't ready or whatever, but now because... But now because of his age, you know, I can see why he's ready to stop. Oh, I totally get it why. I'm not busting his balls, but I am in a way. I'm like...

Yeah, I think he's said it like two or three times his last role, and then he pops up again. A lot of people say it, but it's also, can you blame them with the world? You need the money, you need the money. Yeah, and the movies, honestly, the last, well, spiral, maybe not. so much but x was amazing i love that if i can't get you know there are certain movies where you want to scream and shout like quit already stop but movies like this i can watch forever because

You know, same scenario, different traps. Sure. Different sins, different getaways or, you know, but the last one was amazing. And this is part two of that. It states that... It's a part two continuation slash redemption of maybe even his own. So, you know, I don't know what we're getting because they're being hush hush on the details.

You know, they want to know if Hoffman's coming back. I'm hoping he does because, you know, who's played by Costa Mandalore. They also were supposed to play this last year, but it got pushed a year back. the ears up we're here and it's gonna be at the theater september 26 right along with the bride so who you think people are gonna go see more so i am you right I mean, it's all, let's be honest, all movies are about the traps. Let's be honest, it's all about the traps.

what they can up themselves up with each time that's what we're about it's like final destination you were just about all the kills right right so i mean it doesn't almost the plot doesn't even almost exist in my opinion it just has to be good traps and let's see what saw 11 the only thing they did quote is that they promised this one would be deadlier than all the others all right so you're giving a thumbs up no matter what i'm giving that thumbs up

I root for Tobin Bell. Yeah, I'm a big fan of Tobin Bell, and I love the franchise as a whole, so I'm going to give this one a thumbs up. I mean, it's hard not to succeed to some... degree when you're in a solid franchise it's hard to make oh yeah some are weaker than others but no matter what the kills were great that's right well cool all righty love so there you go with sol 11 and did they have a title yet

Or are they just Saw 11? Saw 11. Yeah. I don't even think. I think, like you said, they're keeping Hush Hush. I don't think they're even releasing it yet. Yeah. Cool. All righty. So my next one releases in the theater February 21st, another February release. Oh, and this one's a something from Stephen King. Nice. And I totally, who was it? G-Reg, I think, said he was screaming.

at us when we was talking about the monkey the other time we talked about monkey shines and and all these stuff i think it was you uh greg i can't remember who it was but whoever it was i apologize i apologize we made a mistake of that one but anyways this one's a an adaption of one of

Stephen King's short stories, I believe it was. But this movie is called The Monkey. And this is kind of like The Monkey. Brian Scott's laughing right now because he's got it in his damn... uh house right now that monkey that the little symbols the ting ting I think Dave even has one of these. When I first saw the picture of this poster, I got so confused because it made me think of the monkey that's in Phantom of the Opera. Yeah. They almost look identical except for the eyes got wider. Yeah.

wait a minute and then double take i'm like oh yeah actually it has he's hitting a drum it's like one arm goes up and one arm goes down it's a wind-up toy monkey uh but it's from neon Keep an eye on Neon. Neon has been releasing some really good films. They did Immaculate.

They did Pig with Nicolas Cage, Infinity Pool. They're putting out some really good titles, man. So I'm excited for this one. It's directed by Osgood Perkins, son of Anthony Perkins. Yep. And we know him from Gretel and Hansel. which I absolutely love that movie and some other stuff, Black Coat's Dollar and all that. But this one stars Adam Scott. Go figure, him and Oz. And I like Adam Scott. Yeah. He was fun in the Twilight Zone, the Jordan Peele Twilight Zone. He did the flight one.

And he was also, of course, in Pearl's, one of her favorite movies, Krampus. And he's just, he's like a quirky, you know it's going to be comedic to an extent with him in it. He just has that. Right. He does good at being an actor. I'm not knocking him as an actor, but... he does it more he has that comedic style about it but him you got theo james i really like theo you got elijah wood in this one sarah levy uh you got a good cast in this one but here's the plot synopsis according to imdb

It says, when twin brothers Bill and Hal find their father's old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths start. The siblings decide to throw the toy away and move on with their lives growing apart over the years. And then all of a sudden, monkey reappears and one of the brothers...

others doesn't want to have anything to do with this monkey anymore don't just leave me alone and it takes place from there now i'll be honest the first time i seen the trailer for this wasn't pleased i thought yeah Saw the poster, not pleased. I'm just like, yeah. Seen the trailer two more times now because of the movies we've saw in the theater. And this last time something clicked and Minda said, you're going to have fun with this movie, Greg.

Something in me said this is going to be a really fun movie. You're going to actually enjoy this movie. It's going to have some gore. It's going to have some humor. It's going to have some of the things that you like. Watch this one, Greg. You're going to be excited. I'm going off my gut on this one, okay? I'm changing my thoughts of what I originally thought back in the day. It's only an hour and 35 minutes long, not super long. Once again, thank you, filmmakers in 2025.

Hallelujah. Maybe we're finally getting some people to listen to us and say, quit making three-hour movies. An hour and a half is plenty. So here it is, The Monkey. I'm going to give this one a thumbs up. I think this is going to be fun. I think it's going to be good. I think people are going to talk about this one. And I think even Stephen King, and I don't hold this much water, love, but Stephen King's excited for it.

It's his mood. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. He's attached to it. So of course he's going to like it. Uh, but for me, I'm actually excited about this one. I think this is going to be a fun watch and it's coming out in the February. I'm definitely looking forward to it, and I do love Osgood. Pearl, thumbs up, thumbs down.

Thumbs up, because I think we're going to have one hell of a ride with this monkey. Yes, it is. And it's not like Monkey Shines, okay? You're welcome, G-Reg. Yes, I clarified that. A totally different movie. uh but it's called the monkey and maybe i'll try to read the short story before then we'll see i don't i have to look that up i don't know which if that was in maybe i don't even want to go there because he's got like 5 000 books and i own like 3 500 of them but i don't

recall which book this was in, but anyways. But The Monkey. We'll check it out. Alright, Pearl, what you got next? My next one will be a short point out because they're again another hush hush they won't give that much details but then again the movie that i'm gonna mention do they really even need that many details this is set out to come out on june 27th Okay. All I'm going to say is she's back, but it's an AI lifelike doll. Returns, and we can only imagine what trouble she'll bring with her.

But Jenna Davis, Violet McGraw, Alison Williams will reprise their role in Megan 2.0. Woo-hoo-hoo! Jay of the Dead is screaming right now, like, yes! I'm just picking. I'm excited. I love Megan 1, Megan whatever you want to call it, Megan. So another sci-fi. Yeah. Thriller sci-fi. Thriller, but she definitely hit in the horror world. Yeah, she does, because I'd be afraid if something was after me. Yeah, I'm actually...

I'm actually excited. We'll see when it comes out. Like you said, in June, they are kind of hushy-hushy. So, are you giving it a thumbs up? I am giving it. Or are you giving it a half? I'm giving this one a half because, you know, I like these type of movies, but they're not my favorite either. Right. Half. I want to give it a thumbs up, but I'm going to be honest. I'm going to give it kind of a mid-thumb.

Because it's a sequel and it's Megan. Meter half down. I'm a meter half down. I just feel like it's not going to deliver. I feel like it's going to be one of those movies. We're going to be super excited to get in there.

And it's going to be tiresome. It's going to feel like we just saw it in Megan. We're going to be like, man, they should have just left the one. Some of those movies, you just do a one and done. And I feel like Megan should have been a one and done, right? We already know what she's about. We already know what she can do. What else are you going to give us?

a terminator too are we gonna get liquefied or i don't know man i don't to me i'm gonna give it a half thumbs i don't think it's going to do that good and i don't feel like i'm that excited yeah I can see that. Okay. All right. Well, cool. So Megan 2.0. I do like the name though. Yeah. And talking about 2.0, I've got one that have not got an official release date to my knowledge yet, but should release this year.

Super excited. And it's a part two. And it made some of the people's top 10 of 2024. And that is The Strangers Chapter 2. Nice. Now I loved... the strangers chapter one that came out last year uh did not make my top 10 but i definitely liked it

This one, directed by Rennie Harlan, is on their way to their honeymoon. A couple's vehicle breaks down, forcing them to take refuge in a remote Airbnb. As night falls, three mass strangers terrorize them until dawn. Now, this is the continuance. It's kind of keeping the same.

IMDB synopsis as the first one but it's just the continuance of what happened in the first one because you know if you watch the first one how it ended it was open-ended that's because they're making a trilogy so they kind of set you up and gave you kind of a blueprint of where they're going and then we're going to get part two which i think will get a lot more meat and then part three will end it so there's going to be a trilogy so for me

Super excited about this. I love The Stranger World because it's lifelike to me. It's more realism. uh, home invasion. It's that whole, somebody's in your house, you don't know it, or, you know, you're walking down a, a hallway and you You don't see it, but the camera's showing somebody behind you, and you're like, oh, freaking A. You know, this is the shit that scares Greg. So I'm excited. This one has Rachel Shinton. You got Madeline.

Petschi and Brooklyn A. Johnson and just a whole slew of casts. You got Neil played by Pablo Sandstrom. i'm going to give it a thumbs up i'm actually really excited i think it's going to do well i think it's going to be one of those that i know people are hesitating about it because of the first one and it's not the original and it's blah blah blah i get it i totally

get it. I'm kind of right there with you, but at the same time, I'm okay to go down this journey. I'm not fully sure how long this movie's going to be, but I'm excited for it. It's Strangers Chapter 2. It's a you movie. It is a You Me movie. And you giving it a thumbs up, love? I am giving it a thumbs up. For some reason, somewhere in the back of my mind, I feel like this is going to be better than part one. I love it. I think it will, too, because I think we're going to get more meat now.

I think we had to get the kind of initial rundown of... part you know the original stranger i think we had to get that kind of run out now we're going to get to see the meat of it yeah and that's what i feel i think then the first one they just threw us a bone and be like okay come on yeah remember remember this was in strangers

Part one, the original Strangers, this was there. Remember this? Remember that? Now I'm going to start giving you some newer stuff. Let me show you this. I'm really excited. As long as they don't put us in a trailer park in Kentucky, we'll be all right. Although I love Strangers Part 2. I do. Yeah. All right, cool. So, all right, Pearl, what's your next one? My next one is one of my favorite franchises. Just as she's about to leave home for college.

18-year-old Stefani, who has been having horrific nightmares about dying on a tower accident in the 1960s of all times, discovers that her dreams are actually premonitions. Yes, this is set out to come out on May 16, finally, because this also has been pushed in a wait. This is Final Destination Bloodlines. Another Final Destination. Yep, another one. And the late Tony Todd is in this one.

Okay. And Brack Basinger, Tio Briones, Quintessa Swindle, and a whole bunch of others. So let's see who's going to live and die. Live and let die. Yeah. This is my dog. And I'm giving this a thumbs up because no matter what, again, the franchise has some weak ones, some good ones, but it's the kills that I go for and I want to see gore. So thumbs up. I'm giving it a half thumbs because I need to see if they're going to deliver on all.

the gore and the fun. So I'm giving it a half thumbs. I think people will definitely... You gotta admit, the kids are creative, though. Oh, they are. Here, a little CGI, especially if they go the way of the NASCAR one. That was... Yeah, but that's memorable, though. It's memorable. But here will be my take on this. This is my hot take for Final Destination.

If it's released in the theater, which I'm pretty sure it will be, it's going to get... attention it's going to definitely draw a larger crowd because people know the franchise so i feel they will flock to it if it goes direct to streaming or video i don't think it's going to do as well No, I think this one's theater release. I hope it will be. All right, so I'm giving a half thumbs up. Okay. All right, I'm going to one I knew nothing about until Pearl said, hey.

You want to talk about this one? So I'm like, sure. So, and if you go on IMDB, not much there. If you go on Wikipedia, not much there, but evidently it's going to happen. It does not have a release date yet. Uh, but suppose. in 2025 and this movie is called dust bunny tagline drama horror thriller directed by first time director brian fuller

And here it is. An eight-year-old girl asks her scheming neighbor for helping killing the monster under her bed that she thinks ate her family. Stars Mads Mikkelsen. Sigourney Weaver. David Dasmashian. Oh yeah, from Late Night with the Devil. I am all for this. It's already been filmed. IMDb has still pictures, so we know the movie's been filmed.

So I don't know what we're going to get in this movie, but it's one of those, it sounds like a children's horror movie. Maybe it'll be for adults, but it definitely has that children's undertone, which I like.

I don't know if this will go to theater or not. I feel like it's not. I feel like this is probably going to be a Netflix or something. I feel like it's going to be something like that. But I'm actually kind of curious about it because I do like, yeah, the creature under the bed type situation.

And the cast, I think, is going to be strong. It might not be the boogeyman, but it kind of makes you think of, like, Mr. Crockett. Yeah, Mr. Crockett was good. That was fun. All right, so I'm going to give this a tentative... thumbs up because of david i love david dasmouchi a little meter up a little meter up so we'll see we'll see keep your eye out for dust bunny and we'll try to get some more information on that in the future but dust bunny right now is getting a thumbs up for me

Same here. All right, Pearl. What you got, Nate? Sorry. You know what? My next one is another franchise that I've been waiting for because again, it got pushed and pushed. This one got pushed for two years. Ooh. Director Michael Chavez. And it is The Conjuring Last Rites. With Vera Farming and Patrick Wilson reprising their roles. Nice. Talisa Farminga is going to be in it. Sister, nice. Miko Huge is going to be in it. Miko's in it? Yep. Nice. And this titles out that it takes one last...

terrifying case involving mysterious entities that just must be confronted. So we got Ed and Lorraine Warren back, right? Yes. I love, I love. I love the cast. I'm all about this cast. How many is this mate now? Is this four? This is the fifth one, I believe. Fifth Conjuring? Yeah, because the last one was the devil. Yeah, the devil one. Something. Yeah, okay.

All right, I'm a big fan of this whole franchise. And when I say that, I'm even throwing some of the Annabelle film over there, the original Annabelle. Yeah. Not so much the second one, but I will at least go with the first Annabelle. The devil made me do it. That's what it wanted. Okay. So I'm a fan of this whole... franchise, this whole aura of films, some better than others. So whether it does good or not, I'm giving it a thumbs up because I do love Formega and all them. I do like the cast.

So I'm going to give it a thumbs up. I don't think it can fail too bad. You know, we got Mia Tomlinson who plays Judy, but she's a little more grown up now. Oh, really? So, you know, she has her mother's gift, so. Who knows? Who knows what's going to go on? Will this be a family battle? Maybe. Who knows? In fact, we got freaking.

Gage from Pet Sematary. I know. Miko Hughes, hello. Right. I'm glad to see Miko coming out and getting some rolls. I do too. All right, cool. I'm excited. I'm going to give it a thumbs up. Pearl, you giving thumbs? I'm giving it a thumbs up. All right. How about a film that's supposed to release on January 30 or January 21, January 21. I don't know if it's theatrical, but definitely January 21. It says, how about this?

And that would have already released because we're already past January 21. So this movie should be out. What am I talking about? We're January 29th. Oh, no, we are, aren't we? Yeah. Here I am saying. And just to backtrack real quick, The Conjuring on September 5th. All right, September 5th. Cool. So this one should already be out. I don't know where it's at. I have no clue. So here it is. Let me give you the IMDb synopsis first. Let me just do that.

And then we'll tell you. So 12 strangers kidnapped play a death game voting to murder one another nightly. Werewolves. Among the kill. Among them kill. Okay, so werewolves, among them, kill villagers. Days repeat until one group remains. Adapted from Dimitri Davidoff's 1986 Social Deduction Party Game, directed by Kara... Claymore and Jackie Payne. And it's got Bai Ling stars in it and Robert Picardo, but also notably the last film that we know of, of Tony Todd, the late Tony Todd.

I know I've seen the trailer for this. I have not seen the movie yet. It looked interesting. I know the mask of the killer looked kind of cool, but it's going to play out as a game. I'm hesitant on this one, I'll be honest, but it's called Werewolf Games, so we know we got killers and then Last Party, survivors, all that stuff. I'm going to go into this one hesitantly because I know some of these independent films can be pretty weak.

Uh, sometimes they try to go for one or two things and different duck films is the one that's producing this production company. I like that different duck films. But I'm going to be hesitant on this one. I'm going to definitely watch it, Pearl. We'll search it out and try to find it because, you know, it's Tony Todd and I want to see this.

I want to respect and value him. But I'm going to give this one a thumbs half. It's a thumbs half. I don't know if I'm going to like this one. I don't think this is going to be one that's going to ever... probably make a top 10 list or anything for me i think it's gonna be a one and done viewing but i'm gonna give it a thumbs half and we'll see what happens at the end of the year once all is said and done but werewolf game what do you think pearl i think i'll go the same rate

I will look into it because I must see what the werewolves look like because I'm a werewolf washer. And for the respect of Tony Todd as well. But are these going to be real werewolves? I hope so. Because if not, then...

Then that thumb does go down as much as I love Tony Todd. Yeah, I know, and I feel like this is going to be different. I don't think these are going to be werewolves. I think they're calling them werewolves because they have werewolves among them kill villagers, and they got those in quotations. like one group is gonna be called the werewolves and they gotta hunt the villagers so they're putting

Man against man, woman against woman type situation. Then it might save my rating. Where is that? We'll see. But Werewolf Game, it should be out there. If you've seen it, let us know. Right. All right, Pearl, what you got next? My is another semi now, well not franchise, but trilogy now. And this one is set to, it doesn't have a release date, but it is releasing this year. Directed by Chris.

Christopher Gaines. This one's returned to Silent Hill. When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of his lost love, James finds a once recognizable town and encounters... Terrifying figures once again. So psychological horror thriller and anyone who's seen Silent Hills knows how creepy. those monsters from hell are like or even before hell it's like the dungeons of hell like right a cross between like monstrous monsters and hellraiser i would think but hell on earth type

But I'm actually excited for this. Two wasn't the best for me. One, I loved. I'm actually surprised and thinking this will be good. Is that the one that had that siren? Yeah, the ones you hate. And those bigs.

triangle yeah and what are the ones i love the nurses that yeah dr shock knows what we're talking about because when we went to uh and ian was with us he wanted his picture yeah he wanted his picture because this this girl looked hot like she she was gladly dressed oh yeah at this convention we were at and she had the triangular head on and uh very little other than that i remember ian like i want to take a picture of her

Oh, good times. All right, well, cool. I'm going to give it a half thumbs. I'm going to half thumb it up. Okay. All right, the next one I know is releasing, because we've seen it, a trailer. or at least partial trailer, is slated to say April 18th released by Neon. And there's Neon again. I told you guys, watch out for Neon. The movie. It was directed by Finn Wolfhard and Billy Brake. You say, who in the hell? I know that name Finn Wolfhard.

Well, you damn right you do. If you've seen Stranger Things, you've seen Stephen King's It, the new chapter one and chapter two, you know who Finn Wolfhard is, but definitely Stranger Things. I like this kid. And I call him a kid. He's adult now. So anyways. This was a 2023 film. It released back on some film festivals. I don't know how it did. I don't recall. If you've seen it in the film festivals, please let us know. But it's called Hell of a Summer.

And it's a comedy horror film. And it stars Fred Heisinger, Abby Quinn, also Finn Wolfhard, and some other people here. I'm actually super excited. The damn poster is cheesy as hell, but it's got just the torso of a person with a shirt on it says Camp.

pine way with a bear in the middle and his blood and and it just says hell of a summer looks pretty cheesy looks generic right yeah the trailer looked fun as hell what little bit it was a teaser was not a full trailer but it was a teaser trailer for this at the theater like a sneak peek sneak peek and i was like fuck yes what is this and then it come up hell of a summer and i'm like

Yeah, give me more. Give me more. It was an appetizer. And it's co-produced and, like I said, co-directed by Finn Wolfhard. So let's see what this guy's got. Inspiration for the film came from Edgar Wright's Sean. of the dead so if it has any any of the heart and the feeling of shawn of the dead this is going to be a great film i'm giving this one double thumbs up

I really enjoyed what I saw of the teaser, and I'm super excited. It's called Hell of a Summer, slated, according to Wikipedia, by Neon on April 18th. This will be a blind buy for me. I will buy. this one when it comes out i will definitely want this one but hell of a summer pearl i give this one also a thumbs up it does look really interesting and i wish i could give you like i don't even see

I don't even see where they had necessarily a plot for this one. But anyways, so hell of a summer. Check it out. when it comes out and let us know if you've seen it in the film festivals back in 2023 let us know jason widget and some of you that go to these film festivals man i'd love to hear from you let us know okay all right pearl I have my last two, but one of them is called Whistle. And it doesn't have a release date, but it is set out again this year.

Nick Frost. Love Nick Frost. That dude came out, we counted it, love, I think like five films in 2024. He is just that good. It has Darren Keene. Corin Hardy, Sky Yang. Okay. This is an upcoming teen horror film directed again by Corin Hardy. Supposedly, a group of high school misfits inadvertently come across an ancient Aztec death whistle. When blowing it...

It summons their future death to hunt them down. And as the body count increases, they investigate the artifact history in hopes to halt the sequence of events that are set into motion. Now, I love this because I've always been fascinated with the death whistle because I love the Aztec history and tales about this. I even own a little mini.

Death whistle what I do the little black one that you see me have but do you know what it was? Yeah, I don't want to know what that was. That's what I have. That's not what that was That's what it is. Woman is not what it is. Hey, I was curious. Have I blown it yet? No. No, and do not. Maybe I'll wait for the movie. Woman. You gotta stop it. But I give this a thumbs up already because I am so interested in this.

Besides anthology, I love Fork Lord and tales and stories about artifacts, so bring it on. Nice. I like it. Yeah, I'm thumbs up on that one for sure, without a doubt. All right, let's go to mine. This one right here, I think, is going to be one that most of us are eagerly awaiting for. June 20th is what it's slated for. It's another zombie film. You're like, what? Yes. Yes. This one is...

28 years later. That's right. We've had days. We've had weeks. Now we have gone to years. And it's available now. It's coming out in June, it says. And yes. This one right here has me eagerly waiting for it. A group of survivors of the rage virus lives on a small island. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected,

but other survivors. Danny Boyle, once again, directing. I'm super excited about this one, man. I'm just really... eagerly waiting. We got Aaron Taylor Johnson, Jack O'Connell, Jody Comer, Ralph Fiennes. What a cast. Looking like some really fun. Selly Crossland.

Keep your eye out for her. A few other individuals here, but I'm super excited for this one. I think it's going to be really strong. I know it's going to have some great gore effects in it. I think it's going to be cool. These are the ones, though, that I kind of teeter-totter between it being a... zombie film and not reason being is there virus infected so i don't consider that necessarily zombie i consider it more of a virus of course but

That's an argument that me and Kyle Bishop need to have. And we'll have to do that, Kyle, on... Dead men still walking. But anyway, so yeah, this is 28 years later. Super excited. This is getting a two thumbs up. I think it's going to be really strong. So what you got on that one? I give it a thumbs up as well.

It's intriguing that I would definitely watch this. Nice. So around June, listeners, we should be getting that awaited trilogy final. I'm assuming it'll be final. Who knows? You got days, weeks later is what's left. Right.

Right? I mean, you can't go past years. What, decades? 28 decades? I don't know. I feel like this will probably be the last of it. They left out months. This is true. So we'll see. But 28 years later, coming out in June. Yeah, I'm excited. Double thumbs up. All right, Pearl, what you got? For my last one, it's one that I've been anticipating since I heard about it. This one's from, forgive me for butchering his name because I can't say it right.

del toro oh gilmore del toro that yeah okay i got you no you're fine that's a hard name i'm not gonna lie well i have a hard time with anyways no you're fine this one It's going to be based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein. Ooh. Where Dr. Pretorius... Needs to track down Frankenstein monster who was believed to have died in the fire 40 years before. Or did he? This one has Jacob Elordi who plays the doctor. Mia Goth, who will be the bride. Yes.

Oscar Isaac, who'd be Victor Frankenstein, and a whole bunch of other strong cast in it. So I am anticipating this one, and it does release this year. No date yet, but we know it's coming soon. All right. I'm excited about this. And you said Mia Goth, and I think Dave Z's heart just dropped. I think it is. Right. Because we know he's a huge Mia Goth fan. I love Mia Goth as well. She's good. Yes, she is good.

A little demanding for my hair, but she's good. Yeah, we'll see. All right, I'm actually excited about this one. I'll give this one a half thumbs up. I do too. Okay, so half thumbs up on that one. All right, I'm going to do a companion. I'm going to do a duo. Okay. Okay, because both of these really kind of fit in the same realm. And the realm I'm talking about is the TCU universe, which is the Twisted Childhood universe, a.k.a. the Pooh universe.

We already had the Winnie the Pooh, and we got the Winnie the Pooh part two, Blood and Honey, and they're releasing all these. Popeye. Yeah, the Popeye movie, which I still want to see. But the two I'm going to mention, first one is being Peter Pan's Neverland.

nightmare peter pan's neverland nightmare this one um i actually kind of think it's going to be fun i think because here's the thing like winnie the pooh the first one wasn't bad i actually thought it was decent uh this one's supposedly already out released january 13th so i gotta hunt it down and see if i can find this and i'm sure it's streaming somewhere down the line i just haven't looked for it yet uh but peter pan's neverland winnie the pooh was fun winnie the pooh blood and honey

was a letdown but it had more characters and a little bit more blood so you know i'm okay with that i still need to see the pipe i want to see what's happening but here we go with peter pan peter pan is one of my favorite of the childhood stories right when you got into the children's stories your mom or dad or or you'd watch or you'd listen or somebody to read you a story peter pan was always like one of my favorites i always just watch hook we just watched hook robin williams and and uh julia

Roberts and stuff. You know, you got Tinkerbell, you got Peter Pan, the story of Wendy and all that. Well, this is the horror version of that. And the, the creature thing looks kind of cool. I'll be honest. So I'm okay with this one. I'm actually kind.

of excited we'll see where it goes directed by scott chambers and it's probably cheesy as hell but i don't care it's gonna have blood everywhere and and i'm kind of digging this universe i don't know who jenny miller is but she plays pirate vivian but her nick or her parentheses name is the uh the vicious i think it's called the vicious yeah uh what is it hang on a second i'll tell you she definitely looks like she's a um a woman

And I'm giving her a thumbs up. But Vicious Viv is what I should say. I don't know any of the cast, I'll be honest, man. I'm looking at the cast, looking at the cast. I don't really recognize anybody. So I don't know. But I'm okay with that. Sometimes it's okay to not have a cast that you know, especially in these type films. But Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare, I'm giving it a...

Thumbs up in anticipation. Hopefully it'll be really good, but I'm going into it with the hesitation knowing it's probably going to not be very good. So, and then I'm going to put this one in love and then you can say whether you give them two thumbs up or not. And here's the other one. It's called Bambi the reckoning.

Yes, that's right. We're talking about the deer, lovable deer, uh, the doe, the foam, the whatever, uh, Bambi. And then we got this one. This is also part of that universe that the children's universe thing we're talking about. And the plot on this one, after a mother and son get in a car wreck, they soon become hunted by Bambi, a mutated grief-stricken deer on a deadly rampage seeking revenge for the death of his mother.

Bambi's mom got killed by a car accident. So he's definitely, Bambi's out to just mutate and mutilate everybody they can come in touch with. Yes. Hour and 21 minutes. Fuck yes. Two thumbs up. Give me this shit. I'm all into this world. Give me that. Even though I will say the Steamboat Mickey. Not that one, but the Mickey Mouse trap one or whatever. God, that was horrible. That was. Oh, my God. I couldn't even finish that movie. Horrible. But this one I'm okay with. So Bambi and Peter Pan.

giving them double thumbs up. I think I'm going to sit back and have fun. And I'm going to have to just go ahead and buy the Winnie the Poohs in this because I feel like I'm just going to have to own this whole universe on DVD or whatever. You're going to have to because of me. You end up there crappy. Well, Dark Universe, you're out there, you're listening. Sleeping Beauty, please. There you go. I know they did the Cinderella one, but...

Sleeping Beauty is mine. The Twisted Childhood Universe. TCU, baby. So double thumbs up. You, Pearl? I give it a thumbs up too because I believe that... If you're going to go twist and you're going to go dark, Peter Pan has a lot of potential. And I love the concept of the Bambi because as sad as it was, the cartoon. I think this is a good twist that yes.

Kill your hunters, kill the killers, kill the... I'm just trying to picture Bambi, like, coming all mean-faced. But Bambi's grown up. He ain't little anymore. I can just picture Bambi on his hind... What do you call them? Hoofs or whatever it is. I'm going to gnaw your face off, bitch.

all i keep thinking about the skunk and everything now you can call me flower yeah bumper be out there somewhere yeah oh my god all right so cool i'm giving double thumbs up i'm excited i don't care i'm excited about uh did you have any other ones want to throw out pearl no like i said my i'm trying to stay with my last one okay well we'll throw these two other ones out and then we'll wrap up here death of a unicorn pearl

Oh, yeah. So Death of a Unicorn was one that we saw the trailer, right? Yes. And we was like, what in the hell are we watching? Like, dude, this is straight up like... a what the f moment like we're watching this thing like what is this and then when they show instantly as soon as i see genie ortega i'm like oh i'm sold you're like okay i don't care i don't care because yeah

i i love genie ortega as an actress and i'm sitting here like yes i'm okay i'll yes this is and it's it's a freaking unicorn That's what I like. Oh my god, this looks so cheesy as hell, dude. I'm telling you, I'm looking at this movie thinking... Who Got This Thing Made? It's directed by Alex Sharfman. Check out the cast, though. You've got freaking Jenny Ortega. You've got Will Poulter, who some of us will know him. Midsommar, I think, for us.

horror world will know him from midsummer but i think a lot of us is going to know him from the jennifer aniston movie what was the one about the drugs jennifer aniston remember it was like the the

Oh, God. Oh, shit. What was the name of that guy? Everybody's screaming right now. The movie where they're in the RV delivering the drugs. They didn't know they had drugs. The Millers? The Millers. The Millers. Thank you. And Will was the one that had his balls bit by a spider. And they go, oh, my God. Oh, my balls are huge. Anyways, but you got Paul Rudd in this one, Jessica Hines. So you got a cast that's recognizable, but you got me with Jeannie Ortega, Will Poulter, and Paul Rudd.

To me, while I was watching it, I was so curious about the unicorn because the way they show it, it looks evil. Yes. Beautiful black looking evil thing horse. But when you look at what the trailer showed, it looks like they're trying to cross it between Beetlejuice, Dr. Doolittle, and maybe Willy Wonka type kind of deal, but... Yeah.

But it looks fun. It looks fun. So I'm going to give this. I got to give this a thumbs up because of Jenny. But I don't know. March 28th release date. We'll see. Who knows. It was filmed in the United States and in Hungary. Or Hungary. Hungary. Yeah, there. And we'll see. Hour and 44 minutes long. Sure, why not? fuck it and last one for all we'll talk about is just because we love the trilogy and now we're getting another one and it's fear street prom queen hello another rl stein

This one's supposed to take place at prom night in 1988. Perfect year, love. 88. I bet it's going to have some killer music. Yep. This one's directed by Matt Palmer. Got a large cast, so it's going to have a big body count. You can already know that.

and uh i really enjoyed the trilogy so i'm really looking forward to this one which it went to streaming right away it was a netflix original that's why yeah so i'm sure netflix is going to own this one as well so uh it's going to be hard for you to be able to

pick up any physical copies because netflix is not going to release them but yeah anyways so uh i'm excited i'm excited about this i think the original trilogy or the first three that came out a couple years ago was great and i'm looking forward to this one Double. Double. thumbs up because this is a thumbs up too yeah this is a slasher so yeah i think you said this pearl and i don't want to take it from you but i'm gonna say it you said it looks like 2025 is gonna be the year of the slashers

Yeah, slasher and sci-fi, but I say slashers. Yes, we already, out of the movies, we mentioned there's, what, six, at least six that are slashers? And there's... plenty of few more that we did not mention because trust this is not the only ones that are coming out there a ton more yeah we're just giving you a little a little teaser dipping your toes into it yeah yeah who knows where we'll go i mean come on it's only january so there is what we're predicting so let's wait until end of the year

Go back and listen to this episode. Maybe some of you guys can take notes for us and say, all right. Greg said double OTM. Double OTM. Keep up with all our thumbs ups and thumbs downs and half thumbs. And then at the end of the year, we'll compare notes and see, did we do good? Or did we do bad? Right. This will be exciting. So what else you got, Pearl, for this episode? That'll be it. I'm just excited to go to the movies and start this up. Oh, we are back to the movies, guys.

yes we are we are back full swing we're going to try to hit as many of the horror movies as we can as well as some other films because there's other films that we like too so Of course. Yeah, but mainly horror. But we'll definitely check out some others. I'm excited to get back to the theater. Popcorn candy. Popcorn candy. Concessions. Let's all go to the lobby. And in the meantime, you can also enjoy little pre-videos for Gregor Morris' YouTube.

That's right, because I'm going to try to take a mini-review at the theater for each theatrical release that we do. Mainly horror, though. I don't know that I'll do mini-non-horror, but over at the YouTube channel, I'll definitely each... movie we go see we'll record a video going to the theater and outside doing a little five six minute little mini review non-spoilery

And let you know what we thought of those. We've already released a couple of them this year so far with the presents as well. What was the other one we did? Presents and Wolfman. Wolfman. So that's the two I've released so far. So if you're not... subscribe to Greg and Mortis' YouTube channel, head over there. And the best way to do it is just go to landofthecreeps.blogspot.com. Go to the show notes of this episode. And down below, you will see links.

And you'll see YouTube for me. When you do, just click that. Boom. And then subscribe. Bam. And you'll keep up because we got some cool stuff. I'm actually going to record a unboxing video right as soon as we finish this episode. uh a blu-ray set i got from severin film so that's getting ready to release here as soon as we finish recording this so super exciting so with that said pearl what you got in closing love
