ROTC presents Black Glove Mysteries with Ian Urza and Greg Amortis. Welcome to Black Glove Mysteries. I'm your host Greg Amortis along with Ian Urza. What's up, Ian? Tonight is your night, yeah. Shine right on up there and you can win this time. Feels so good to be alive. I was debating which movie I was going to try to sing something from. That opening song of The Psychic is a little hard because those notes are kind of hard to hit when the balls have dropped.
The Murder Rock ones are a little easier. Yeah, they're catchy. They're catchy. Yeah. Yeah. That's awesome. Well, excited to have you back tonight. Listeners, this is Land of the Creeps, episode 405-0051. If you are keeping...
in tune with us uh super excited tonight we're going with lucio falci as mentioned on the last black glove episode and we're super excited we're going to be looking at 1977 italian giallo film uh which we'll call it psychic for now and then we're also looking at 1984's murder rock Film or also Dance and Death, Murder, Rock, Dance and Death. And there's some other titles we'll get into. But that's what we're covering tonight. Super excited. Hopefully you got to listen to it.
or listen to it, watch it, and then you'll be able to follow along with us. If not, just hang on. We'll try to do it in... as least spoilery fashion as we can. There may be a few spoilers thrown out here or there, but I mean, you know, these movies are 30, 40 years old, so we'll do our best not to spoil everything.
We'll probably get into a few things. Uh, but that's what we're covering tonight as well as we have a couple of calls from listeners in that we'll get into too. Super excited. So let's see. So what we're going to do is without further ado, Because we're doing the do that we do so well, Ian. First of all, have you had any big excitement your way in the last two weeks? Not necessarily, other than some personal stuff. I experienced a storm here, like right outside of Bangor.
Like the fastest wins I've ever experienced, which some people are going to say, Ian, 16 miles per hour is nothing. I'm like, yeah, I know. But in a way, it was kind of fun because I'm a bunch of my skirting blew out. I live in a trailer home and I.
had to go get a bunch of it basically from a field right near where i live and at one point the gusts were literally in my face the wind was blowing right in my direction i'm carrying like five of them and i'm like i don't know how i'm able to hold on to these because this wind is so strong so
Yeah, that happened. Looking forward to going to see Nosferatu on Christmas. Yes. Are you going Christmas night as well? Yeah, for sure. I'm not doing anything else that night. Same. Yeah, Pearl and I done.
We don't market, which we actually probably need to go ahead and pre-order our tickets, love, on that Nosferatu just to make sure it don't sell out because I don't know how many people will go on Christmas Day night or whatever, but we're definitely going to be there. I'm going to see that so freaking much.
But man, this is exciting. So tonight we're talking Lucio Fulci, definitely one of the prominent Italian horror directors or Italian directors for sure, man. Fulci has so many good hits, some good, some bad. had some uh notorious he's definitely uh known for his gore later in well even early in his career but mostly later in his career man got got being known for that him and argento
I love it, man. You'd have to go back and listen to our LOTC episode where we ranked our difference between Argento and Fulci, who we liked better, and I gave Argento the nod. I think you gave Fulci the nod on that one. If I'm remembering correctly. Yeah, I like Fulci because he made films in different genres. That's why I like him a little more.
as far as like my favorite film by each of them goes, like the beyond is my favorite film of all time. So he wins out on that one as well. As much as I love phenomena, that would probably be. somewhere in my top five or six films of all time but the beyond is number one so yeah he has my favorite film and he has more films other genres now when it comes to just a giallo genre in particular argento is is the guy
I think, I think he's the one on top of that particular genre. Yeah. I agree with you too. Definitely for sure. So this is going to be exciting, man. We're going to get into this and we'll be, um, reviewing these movies like i said and then we'll also get into some other shenanigans and hold on for these calls too cannot wait uh way back on episode 263 is when we were doing the argento crossover with evil jelly
back in the day god it was in 2021 holy crap uh but argento and then we also did fulci uh flipped them over so it was kind of cool so go back and listen to those episodes man if you get a chance so we're super excited Without further ado, let's go ahead and get in here. I'm going to go ahead and play the trailer for 1977's The Psychic. Every 10 or 15 years, a film is produced that is so overwhelming.
so forceful in its impact that it becomes deeply embedded in the mind and changes for all time those who see it. We think the psychic is such a film. Its intensity may be more than some wish to be exposed to and those people should be forewarned. Just imagine how frightening it is. to suddenly find that you can see into the future. And how much more terrifying it is to see in that future your own murder. And then, worst of all, no one will believe you.
Jennifer O'Neill is the psychic. And we'll hand this over to you, Ian, what you got for a plot. All right, so as usual... Plot synopsis is taken from So Deadly, So Perverse by Troy Howarth, Volume 2 in this case. So, Virginia Ducci has the gift of extra-century perception.
One day she is assailed with a vision of a woman being walled up alive. She believes it to be the memory of a crime that has already occurred and tries to convince her skeptical husband, Francesco, but he refuses to believe her. It transpires that the vision is connected to... disappearance of a young woman who used to be francesco's lover and when the woman's corpse is found walled up in his cottage he comes under suspicion of murder
Virginia tries desperately to clear his name, but it soon becomes apparent that the vision also entails another crime, which has yet to occur. Dum, dum, dum, dum. I have seen this at least one time. I think I've seen it a couple times. How about you, Ian? Um, this was probably like my fifth or sixth time watching it. Probably like my fifth time watching it, honestly. Yeah. So this is definitely one that I thoroughly enjoy this movie, but I got to put out that, that.
disclaimer up front that there's not a lot of action in my opinion this movie it's a lot of just following along and it's it doesn't to me it doesn't drag like it's got it's moments right so you the flashback scenes or the dream sequence or the vision sequences we have i love those those little
nuances of getting into her mind and where she's at and what's happening. I love those, those moments, but it's just a lot of this going on throughout the whole movie. And I really enjoy it, man. I really do. I think definitely hits in the shallow. field this has definitely got that field even though there's not a lot of you know there's not really necessarily the black glove killer necessarily in this one or anything like that did you see a jmb bottle i did not see a jmb bottle
Maybe in the background at some point, but I don't know if I ever saw one clearly. No one never stood out. Let's put it that way. Exactly. And the cigarettes are definitely there. Some of the tropes are definitely there. But this one fits more into the police.
procedural side of giallo and that's a lot of what's going on is trying to figure out what's going on and so what are your thoughts what is your uh your feelings of this one well um i just love how it wraps around and how it really takes its time like it's just one little thing after another like there are so many It's almost like an onion, right? You peel back the layers of these reveals and it leads to something great. It's probably one of my top five favorite twists in film history.
one thing I hate is how there's, there's certain like posters for this movie that have a tagline that literally just give away the twist, which annoys me. Um, and there's posters for it that kind of tell you what one of them is too. Um, Something that's similar to a Pink Floyd album, actually, I'll just say that much.
And yeah, to me, I think the progression of it and where it goes, where you you're almost you almost you almost do like a double take as a viewer of like, wait a minute, is this really what is happening as it goes on? And I. I think it's awesome just the way it progresses and wraps around. And I've always thought, have you ever seen the movie Prisoners, the Denis Villeneuve movie with Hugh Jackman in it? Yes.
the very, very end of Prisoner, something happens that I feel like they took exactly from this film. Like, I don't know. I don't know for sure. But I think it's very possible that they did. I mean, Denis Villeneuve is French. Maybe he saw this movie. Maybe he didn't. But it definitely has a similarity to how it ends at the very, very end. Sure. We definitely get a little bit Argento in this one, too.
Yeah. And this this is one of four films. Now, this is not really a dream. This is more of a premonition. Right. Right. Fulci loves these like, let's say, sequences that take place. somewhere that is not necessarily the real world and someone finding out like the perception of that and how it, uh,
how it comes back to them. Like, what exactly is their fate or someone else's fate involved in what they're seeing? I mean, in Murder Rock, we're going to discuss a dream sequence that has a very... prominent uh outlook on the rest of the film yes yeah and this one i mean definitely hits on the paranormal side so you got more of a paranormal
flip on this one, which I appreciate it. I mean, this was Fulci definitely getting into the horror genre. He's, you know, he's coming in and I thought he done great, man. I thought. Like you said, the premonition scenes, each time, like that onion you were talking about, it is. It's like so well told. Like, this is a really well told story.
But if you're looking for gore, you're looking for action, you're not going to like this movie. You know, this one is a lot of just playing in your mind what could happen. And I love it, man. I love movies like that that make you think. Yeah, the goriest sequence is actually right at the beginning of the movie, yet another Fulci cliffside sequence with a dummy. Dude, that was insane. For whatever reason, I had remembered that as soon as I saw it. I was like, oh yeah, this is the face.
scrape and i'm like oh oh where the sparks come i don't know whatever oh were there sparks in this one i definitely know there were no torture at duckling actually i don't even think there was It may not have been here. Yeah, it wasn't in here. I'm sorry. I did. I missed it. But it's still an obvious dummy, which I enjoy. Yes, I do too.
I like that they show her as a kid having this premonition that obviously manifests itself into her adulthood. And that sort of first scene with her going through the tunnel and then coming out and then the same music. is playing like the same radio ad or whatever and then she goes through again and then has the vision it's really cool and I've always liked you know like you know superhero stories or let's say stories about people with um
what you may call extrasensory perception, telekinesis, whatever you want to call it, psychic abilities. And their gift in some ways is just as much of a hindrance as it is a help. Right. The Dead Zone is another great example of a movie that does that. And there are definitely some X-Men characters who have a similarity. People like Jean Grey or Rogue who can't really control some of their own.
uh powers and talents and i always like movies like that yeah stories like that yeah i do too yeah i agree with you i thought jennifer o'neill done a a good job at being virginia right um i know troy howard says in his book um if you go into splinter splinter divisions lucio fulci in his films it's a good book man it's definitely goes through the whole career of lucio fulci uh but he had mentioned There was talk some of Jennifer being a little wooden maybe or a little just kind of...
in the moment type deal but i thought she was good at what she had to do right because i think she especially at the end of this movie i think she might be the dubbing more than anything i think so honestly i think she's dubbing her own voice here and it's a little it's it's it's one of the another one of those performances where an American actor comes in and it doesn't seem like
They're dialing in the performance because of the dubbing. I think you can just hear it a little bit. A more notorious example of that to me, and this is a guy who's a great actor, obviously, is Kirk Douglas. There's a movie called Master Touch that Kirk Douglas did.
It's a Eurocrime movie, and he doesn't really feel like he's putting the same energy into that film as he did his other performances. Giuliano Gemma completely overshadows him in that film. That tells you everything you need to know. I think it's just a case for some of these American actors. If they went to Italy for only one or two films, I don't think their performances were as dialed in as some other people who got more used to it as time went on. Agree. Agree.
I think the cast is good in this one. I enjoyed the cast. I liked the twist at the end of the movie. I thought it was one of the best twists I've seen in Italian Giallo, man. I just think it was really good. Good payoff. Yeah. Total good payoff. Uh, in, uh, Lucio and Troy Hauer's book, he did, uh, have a quote in here. And, uh, this is from Fulci. He says it's one of my, one of my most beautiful.
and at the same time, unsuccessful films, and it cost me a lot of grief for personal reasons. As a film, it's extremely mechanical, and I'll gladly do it again tomorrow. I just adore mechanical scripts. I love that. So one of the most beautiful films. And I got to agree, man. I just got to totally agree. This movie is amazing in that aspect. I agree. And Fulci, you know, back to what he said, I don't think his health problems really started here. I think they started a little later on.
So I'm not sure why he pinpoints this film exactly as being a problem, because really after this, fate changed for the better for him, actually, because he went and made Zombie 2 after Enzo G. Castellari turned it down. it really is fate change for the better. Now, sometime around 83 or 84, actually around the time of making murder rock is when his career fortunes changed and declined and his health problems really increased. But I think he is.
about how he made a film that was about someone escaping their fate being able to fight back against it and i think he thinks that that brought something on to him that was not fortunate so to speak yeah Cast-wise, we got Foster Avelli playing Virginia as a girl.
You'll recognize her. We've seen her in a few things. Don't Torture Duckling being one would definitely be something I think people would recognize. Oh, is she the little girl in Don't Torture Duckling? Yes. I didn't even realize that. Okay. And she was also in Phenomena. Argento's Phenomena. She may be one of the girls at the school in that? She is. She was also in Cassandra Carlson, which is a really good movie. I like that movie.
Uh, if you're not seeing that, everybody should check out the Cassandra crossing. Yeah. And then we got Gabrielle for Zeti. Uh, he's playing. Emilio Ruspin. I wish I could say some of these names properly, man. I'm from the South. I can't do it. But he was a good actor in this one, man. I liked him. You saw him in Once Upon a Time in the West. Yes.
film yeah yeah he's also uh james bond's stepfather and uh well ends up being james bond's stepfather in honor majesty's secret service really yes it's the only movie where james bond Uh, well, yeah, no, I think it's still technically is the only movie where James Bond gets married and yeah, he's, um, Wow. Yeah, he plays like a mob boss who ends up being James Bond's stepfather by the end of the film. Wow, we got us a Bond guy in here. I like it. Yeah. You also got Ida, Ida Galley.
Yeah, she's great in this, too. She steals some of the scenes she's in. She's really fun. She's acting basically like a really sort of arrogant, rich person with somewhat of a heart, it seems like. But still, she's good in this. And we've seen her. stuff before case of the scorpion's tail uh probably being the most notable um and some other stuff yeah that's the one i remember butterfly knife of ice oh yeah the knife of ice i forgot yeah that's right yeah
Hell yeah. So some good actors. I enjoyed her interview as well. You can talk if you're going to talk. No, no, no. Go ahead. Go ahead. Talk about the interview. She had an interview and it was really entertaining. I'm, you know, I'm happy that she's one of those, one of these older women who is.
kind of okay with the fact that she's aged and still is okay with being on camera. I applaud her for that. She also did an interview recently for the Syndicate Sadist Blu-ray because she has a small part in that as well. But she...
talked about how Fulci was a guy, and I can't remember her exact words, but she basically said he was kind of a perfectionist. Like, he expected everyone to come on set, be professional, know what they were supposed to do, and really that's kind of what led to a lot of this. tirades it was a lot of people who weren't professional and didn't always come in knowing what they were supposed to do who were the subject of a lot of his um
his outbursts, so to speak, including Christian Borromeo in the next film. Jaretta Jaretta had a really interesting story about how she said, Oh, Fulci never had a problem with me, but there was one day where I did get to see one of his outbursts and it was on Christian Borromeo because he came in asking a bunch of questions about his character that Fulci was not very receptive to.
It did seem to happen more to women than it did to men, but at the same time, he just seemed to be one of those perfectionist types, similar to someone like a James Cameron. Or, you know, even even similar to someone like an Alfred Hitchcock, maybe where Alfred Hitchcock wasn't necessarily a perfectionist, but he would just say, like, you know, there's a famous example of Tippi Hedren asking, why do I have to run up these stairs or whatever, you know, in the birds? And he's like, because.
telling you to he just you know Fulci just seemed like a person who had his idea for what he wanted to do and really didn't necessarily want other people to to question him too much although from what I'd heard from some other interviews, is he would always trust the people around him, the crew around him, to make the right decisions. Like Fabio Fritzi has said, I just kind of did what I wanted to do and Fulci went with it. The editors...
you know, Bruno McKellie, who's Ornella McKellie's brother, I think, and she edited a lot of his films. He said that we were kind of always allowed to do what we wanted to do. When Fulci had people around him that he trusted, he was kind of okay with letting them do what they wanted to do. I think that's with a lot of directors, too. I don't think it would just necessarily be Fulci.
I mean, you definitely get used to somebody and you trust, and trust is a big thing in filmmaking for sure. Same way with the cinematographer, Sergio Savati. We'll see that Sergio gave us For the Apocalypse, also Zombie 2, Contraband, City of the Living Dead, The Black Cat, The Beyond, House by the Cemetery, The Bronx Warriors. was the cinematographer of all these films. So definitely somebody that Fulci was comfortable with. Yeah, he worked with them a lot. And one of the things you'll see...
around the time of Murder Rock and afterwards is Fulci does not work with the same people anymore after that, for the most part. Occasionally Salvati would be a cinematographer, I think notably for Cat in the Brain. But for a lot of his other films, like if you go to Demonia or... Enigma, you're going to see different screenwriters, different cinematographers, for the most part, different editors. Vincenzo Tomasi, I still think was his editor for the most part.
But I think one of the reasons the quality of his film suffered at that point was because he wasn't working with the same people. And his own health problems were... also their own issue to deal with. But just the lack of quality filmmaking, I think you see a little later in his career is in part due to that. Some of it could have been falling outs. I know he definitely had one with Dardano Sicchetti, but also some.
Some of it could have been budgets and what he, what he had really had access to money wise as well. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. As far as music. on this movie we got a really decent musical score in this one this one's from uh fabio frizzy we'll throw in vince tempera as well as franco bixio uh but i like the music in this one I love it. I used to have it on my phone and I would listen to it all the time, like the entire score, just that sort of seven note.
cue that's in here and um there's like i there's there are some other tracks that are that are just really awesome during some of the reveals what this film does well is actually something that Deep Red does, where there will just be scenes of Jennifer O'Neill walking around, similar to how in Deep Red there are scenes of David Hemmings just walking around and music's just playing and you just kind of enjoy the music that goes with the scene.
Yeah. Fabrizio Jovin, who plays the commissioner in this one, Ian, it was said in the book that he felt he had his fondest memory of Lucio was his wit. his cruel wit. He had an absolutely rude, cruel, but incredible wit. His sense of humor was so sinister, but so enjoyable. I thought that was cool. And I could see that with Folgi.
I didn't know him personally. But if you watch some interviews with him or you watch some behind-the-scenes stuff, you get that from Fulci. He may have that dry wit about him. But I think people that really knew him did appreciate him. Yeah, I would agree. I've heard that plenty of times, you know, even in some of these interviews there where they would just say Fulci was a really funny sort of kind guy with a nice sense of humor. And most most of them all seem to say that. Yeah.
So I love hearing those stories of that right there. But I will say in this one, the cinematography is outstanding. I love the zoom-ins on the eyes. You know, specifically with Virginia, how they would zoom in on the eyes. I love that, man. I loved how he was able to draw you in like you're seeing in her eyes. And I love that, man. I thought they'd done a really good job. Yeah, I agree. One of the things Salvati talked about was shooting.
He loves shooting in shadow and like silhouetting things. And you can see that in this movie where there will be darkness sort of all in one spot, but a brief shot of light somewhere. And there's a lot of shots like that throughout. Yeah, it seems like a, I can't remember where at in the movie. I know there was a scene where you see a shadow of somebody pull up and you're like, ooh, I like that. There's just some little subtleness.
Well, even at the very end of the film, there's something sort of covering a wall and you see a shadow approaching that, which probably means that... this movie's probably going to end happier than you might think, although it's still supposed to be ambiguous. But that's just an example. Yeah.
um there there were just a lot of scenes where he would have bright backgrounds or bright foregrounds and just darkness all around it that would illuminate certain things um another example is you see it in like the scene where they go to the church and all the the frescoes and
everything are all brightly lit where there's all kinds of darkness sort of in the middle of the shot yeah and the musical notes are so beautiful in those scenes like it really the musical score you know really pushes this movie uh just mentally and inspirationally while you're watching it, man. You'll really enjoy the music in this one for sure. Yeah, and just as far as that beginning premonition goes, what I love is they show you a ton of little things, right? Right.
A cigarette on like an ashtray, they show you like a broken glass mural picture, you know, a wall that's been sort of destroyed and then that wall being sort of covered up again. And all of these things come back. And what's really cool is in the middle of the film, they seem to come back in one way, but then it turns out to be something else by the end, specifically something involving a magazine.
So that was that was another example. And by the way, the girl on the magazine is one of Fulci's daughters. I'm trying to see which one. But the girl in that magazine and just in that still picture was Camilla Fulci. Oh, wow. Yeah, one of his daughters. Nice. Agnesi Bernardi. Yeah. Nice. Attractively young little girl, then. There you go. There you go. Why don't you get your daughter in there?
um and then we didn't talk too much about so gianni garko uh we saw him in body puzzle we saw him more recently in cold eyes of fear really good actor um He his interview on the Blu-ray was really interesting because it was mostly just a career retrospective. But he did talk about watching this film recently and really enjoying it, by the way.
He's 89 years old, and this interview was shot recently. So good for him for still being out there and being willing to do that. Nice. You got Mark Perel back from Don't Torture a Duckling, playing the psychologist, apparently. His life was kind of a mess at this point, according to everybody. Him and Jennifer O'Neill were having an affair on set, and they were bickering like crazy the whole entire shooting.
Mark Perel, I don't believe, lived too much longer than this. I think he died at the age of 34 after using a lot of drugs. Let's put it that way. Guy with a promising career, but unfortunately. That's what ended up happening. So as far as anybody else. Oh, yeah. I did want to mention Jenny Tamburi playing his psychologist like assistant named Bruna. Yeah. She is the star.
of another jello film called smile before death she's actually a really good actress in her own right it was nice to see her in this uh one other person uh vito passari who plays the caretaker at that villa that ends up belonging to richard um we saw him in another small role in don't torture a duckling where he plays giuseppe sort of the village idiot in that film oh really Yeah, I know what you're talking about now. Damn, I missed that one. Damn it.
Yeah, well, I remember seeing his face in this and I thought, where do I recognize him? Oh, and it's like, oh, he's Giuseppe in Don't Torture a Duckling.
far less fortunate character than whoever this caretaker is probably making good money for taking care of that place exactly yeah and that's about it we're gonna have to so gianni garco was the star of a really good spaghetti western series called the sartana films which we'll have to cover on the show eventually those movies are really fun okay we can do that he's a good looking guy yeah
I think one thing he talked about in this film was Fulci said, not that I want to give too much away, but Fulci had basically said that I want you to play this.
straight up like don't try to be shady just play play it normal and yeah that was that was basically his direction for him throughout the the entire filming was just play play this normally and i think it works well for him yeah there's there's Something I want to mention on here, but I can't really because I'll just have to ask you all for it because it would be a major...
possible spoiler so i'll leave it off and what i liked about virginia's character in a way was how dedicated she was to him um trying to prove his innocence um she has a multiple times like where she realizes hey wait the furniture and all this stuff was moving
into the house by you and this vision i saw so it couldn't have been him yeah so it's there's all that stuff going on and i i like that from virginia's character As well as how resourceful she is trying to figure all this out, that one part where she takes the cab.
has to plug in an address that's really far away. She's like, oh, and the guy's like mispronouncing. He's like, which address is it? Which word is it? But yeah, there were good moments like that for her character where she really is resourceful.
trying to figure this out there's a nice chase scene inside a church where she has to get away from someone and manages to do that so she is a very resourceful character definitely and i will say that that opening sequence where we have her uh dropping off him to get on the plane right for whatever reason man i was thinking dude and here's a spoiler for you listeners i swear i was like that plane's gonna blow up
And I don't know why I had that in my head. She's going to watch it because the musical score cue was... was that music that you expect something, you know, foreboding. And I'm watching it, and I'm watching the plane, and I'm watching the plane. I'm like, well, damn, maybe it's not. I don't know why the hell I had my head in. Did you think it was going to be Case of the Scorpion's Tale all over again? Right. Thank you.
I was like, dude, this thing's going to blow up. I kept waiting to see a miniature plane. And there was this little scene where it kind of looked a little wonky. And I'm like, okay, here's where it's going to blow up because she's watching. And it's a long sequence. And I'm sitting there like, okay, here it happens. And it doesn't. I'm like, shit, I had that mix.
What you got on the dubbing corner on this one? Unfortunately for this one, nothing. I thought I may have recognized the voice dubbing Gianni Garco in English, but I really could not. I really could not think of it. I don't think there's any voices here that I really recognized. Maybe some I recognize, but definitely none that I can put a name to. Okay. Did you watch the American, like, watch it in English?
Or did you watch it in Italian? Yeah, I did. Okay, I did as well. I was going to do the Italian, and then I said, no, I'm going to just go ahead. Because, you know, I'll be honest, Pearl and I have not been feeling well. We've been doing the sickness. I'm like.
I don't want to read. I just want to listen. So I did. I have watched this in Italian before, but the Scorpion release that I got from you, thank you, is got both versions. So you can watch it in Italian or... uh english either way so i like that and i think they all should come that way honestly yeah i agree but uh cool what else you got on the psychic
Nothing really that I can think of. The Severin 4K or Blu-ray just has an insane amount of special features. I mean, first off, you get a nice... almost 30-page booklet by Stephen Thrower, who wrote a Fulci biography at one point, a little bit before Troy Howard did, I think.
You get an interview with Ardano Sicchetti with contributions from Fulci. So Fulci has some like audio interviews that have snippets in there. Selected scene commentary. That's about 20 minutes with Sergio Salvati. Interview. with camera operator Franco Bruni, interview with costume designer Massimo Lentini, interview with assistant editor Bruno McKellie. Let's see here. 2021 documentary by...
Antonietta Delito featuring an expanded interview with Lucio Fulci. So that's actual interview footage with Fulci. Interview with Ida Ghali. Interview with Gianni Garco. Another interview with Sergio Salvati. Interview with Fabio Fritzi. Interview with the other person who helps on the soundtrack, Franco Bixio. Interview with soundtrack co-composer Vince Tempera.
And then a live studio session performance of the psychic suite by Fabio Fritzi and his band. So, wow. Oh yeah. Uh, and that was through seven. Yep. Nice. Nice. So, uh, I'm sure that's still available listeners. If you want to go out and get that, uh, the psychic, I'm going to go ahead and, and throw my rating out. It's a 9.5 for me and, uh, thoroughly enjoyed this one.
And I definitely recommend a purchase on this one if you can find the Severn release. I got the Scorpion release that you sent me, Ian, and it looks amazing. It looks beautiful. It doesn't have as many features, though. It's got like a commentary from Troy Howarth. and then I think it had an interview or two on there. So if you're into the special feature stuff, definitely get that Severn. So where do you come in for this one? I'm giving it a 10. I just love this movie. I adore it. I could...
Kind of throw it on any time because there's definitely little snippets that you can get into. Like any time a new reveal happens, just about one of the things that was in a premonition, I think can just keep you invested enough. So yeah, a 10 for me, I had thought about a 9.5, but then I just thought, eh, I'll just go with a 10. I enjoyed that much. And it tells you how strong Fulci's filmography is where...
This is a 10 for me. And yet it's probably like my sixth favorite Lucio Fulci film. Wow. Wow. I mean, clearly zombie. Well, we know beyond, uh, from beyond, uh, or from beyond beyond. uh where would zombie is that your number two right off yes okay and then of course new york rippers in there so that's three yeah i know you pretty well brother
I love it. Yeah, I would be in that same ratings, man. I'll be honest with you. Don't Torture a Duckling would be four, and then his Spaghetti Western Massacre time would be five, and then this movie. Nice. Oh, sweet. Well, there you go. That is The Psychic 1977. Hope you enjoyed that. And now we're going to...
Flash forward to 1984. We're going to go to almost the disco era is what it felt like or jazzercise or whatever you want to call it. But we're going to be talking about Murder Rock, Dance and Death. I'm going to play the track. Now. We'll come back now. Ian, what you got for a plot synopsis? A student at a New York dance academy is murdered and the police try to discover who is responsible.
Their investigation reveals that there is much competition and jealousy among the students and faculty alike, thus making it harder to pin down a main suspect. The murders continue while Inspector Borges decides to follow a hunch in the hopes of bringing the chaos to a close. Dum-dum-dum-dum. Dude.
This movie should not be as fun as it is. It is a really fun film. I had way more fun with it this time than I had in years past or times past that I tried to watch it. Holy crap. This may have only been the second time I've seen it. years ago when I tried this.
Dude, I had so much fun watching this movie. The opening sequence is basically like watching Friday the 13th Part 4 when the guys in there are watching the girls in the leotards. But we've got this whole dance sequence, and it's a long... long sequence of these girls and guys doing a dance routine the musical
know you know we heard him singing and i'm just saying the song is awesome uh cheesy as hell but a great song and we're listening to this song and watching these girls and you're like what are we watching right i'm sitting here mom did i cut mtv on or
something what do i got going on we got a music video going and we get it a few times in here where we get like a full length video almost but i was all about it man and then we got a very simple plot is somebody is murdering somebody one by one and who's the killer it's just is it because of competition because it's basically this whole group of dancers and performers and only three of them can make it to the big dance and you know they're starting to kill off the main
ones one by one uh so i mean it's a simple plot here but damn if it don't work in my opinion yeah i enjoy it i i actually like who the killer ends up being i don't necessarily know if i like why but um I do like who it ends up being, and I like all the red herrings along the way. Like I said, there's a dream sequence that kind of figures into it a little bit, which is actually pretty interesting. They kind of throw you off with that and how...
how this how this how the character ends up pursuing this dream sequence and what it means is kind of interesting it's good misdirection where someone kills her in a dream sequence and then she's like oh well i'm gonna go find this person in real life rather than being scared of it it's kind of funny yeah definitely uh we have a straight up almost stolen scene from flash dance if you've seen flash dance we got a whole sequence it's almost felt pearls like
Oh, they're totally pulling off Flashdance. The only thing they need to do different. was have her sit down in a chair and pour the water down her. That would have been the only other cue that would have pulled Flashdance out of this. It was great, though. I loved it. I was all in. I'm like, this is fucking awesome. I don't even know where to go with this. The murders are basically a long, pin, needle-like lion's head, I guess you would call it, type.
top thing or whatever but they're piercing the girls through the breasts right like right under I guess through the heart but it's under the breast yeah I don't know if it's supposed to be the heart or if there's more to it where the killer is going after basically that part i mean not necessarily their beauty because otherwise they'd be stabbing the pin into their face but something more different than that you know
Breast being sort of a reproductive organ type thing. I don't really know for sure if there's more to it other than just they're stabbing it into their heart, but it could be. Who knows? Yeah, it could be for sure. Not a bad...
Way to get killed, I guess, right in the breast. Pearl's looking at me like, what the hell are you talking about? I mean, if you're going to die, how about just a little pinprick right in the breast? You don't have to worry about... uh, getting your throat slit or, you know, getting crushed with a brick to the face, you're getting a little pin prick in your breast and you're dead.
She's still giving me that stupid look. Hey, for guys, it was a great moment because you got to see a close-up of her breasts, right, Pearl? Like, they kept showing a close-up, and it was this whole zoom in, almost like Zombie 2 when we're getting the eye gap. Like you'll get this camera pan of a breast and it gets getting closer and closer and closer. And then you got a pinprick.
I was like, Fulci's going for that nudity in this one for sure. He didn't give it in the psychic. He's definitely giving it in this one. But I thought the acting in this one really honestly was good. And it shouldn't be. I was thinking that this was because you got a large cast or a, I won't say large, but you got a bigger cast, right, of characters. And I'm expecting these characters to be like a slasher, pretty shitty.
Well, some of them are good. The problem here is they hired a lot of people who apparently had dancing experience and a lot of the people who are part of the musical number, the dancers themselves. to me are a little bland and i can't distinguish a lot of them from another especially the women a lot of them i
cannot tell the difference between who they are. I like Olga Carlitos in this. I think she's really good in it. I think Ray Lovelock is really good in it. And the star of it to me is... cosmo chenieri as the the inspector i think he's great yes he's amazing in this one man as gorgeous yeah yes he's um there are so many good moments with him like when that one dancer comes to him and tries to confess
about the murders and he knows full well this guy is just doing it for publicity or something like that and at the end of it I won't repeat one of the slurs that is said but he's like Oh, you're not going to like these people for a long time. When I send you to jail, you shouldn't have provoked me. There's a part when he interrogates Claudio Castanelli plays Dick, who's like the head of this studio, basically. And he's interrogating Dick.
and he has he's like I think he has like this pencil in his mouth and he just has such a smug look on his face he's like I am really enjoying you telling me how you slept with these girls and how I shouldn't suspect you for murder because of that. It's such a great moment. The look on his face might as well be... I mean, I know it's Christmas time, so I'm about to make a reference. It's like that...
that part of the Grinch where he's like the Grinch had a horrible, awful idea. And the look on his face kind of reminds me of that. He's just, he's so happy. He's just taking so much joy. And, and, and this guy, you know, basically confessing to these crimes. spoiler, he's kind of a red herring, Dick is. It's definitely Chinieri, I think, is one of the best parts of this.
His relationship with Davis. Yeah, I was actually. Giuseppe. Giuseppe. Meneholo, maybe. Meneholo. Meneholo. That's an interesting name. Sounds good. What's funny is. Davis is the same name as the professor in New York Ripper. So I don't know if they were trying to have him be the same character or if they were just taking inspiration from that. But it is very similar, like what he's doing.
using his psychology, and you have the relationship between him and a hard-boiled cop. It's very similar to the dynamic in New York Ripper. There's a fun moment between them. toward the end where Davis is something like, Oh, we're going to nail them. And he's like, you're starting to sound like me. Yeah. Yeah. There's, there's some fun moments between the two of them. You get a Jaretta Jaretta in this sort of Italian genre.
a superstar known for roles in a lot of Bruno Mattei films playing Margie, who's like another person of this dance studio. Her and Candice, played by Olga Carlitos, have a very acrimonious relationship, to say the least. Candice seems to push people too far. Might be reasoning for that. I'll just say that much. But Candice...
Candice is kind of an interesting character because she's the head of the studio. She's trying to push people to be really good dancers, but she's psychologically vulnerable herself. When she has that dream... uh about ray lovelock's character and goes to you know actually seek him out and she finds him and a lot of the a lot of the film deals with like well what was really going on in the stream sequence and what's really going on between the two of these people i mean you find out
Ray Lovelock at one point had a relationship with some of the dancers as well. So there's more to every character in this, more beneath the surface with every character that figures into it. Yeah, I agree. And I did like her character. And you were talking about Greta Greta. Yeah. I did really like the name, that her name is Greta Greta.
But Olga Carlitos, man, I do like her because she plays the mother in Purple Rain, which I thought was great. I love Purple Rain by Prince. Yeah, she's also the girl who gets a splinter in the eye in Zombie. Oh, yes. Dude, it's such a hard scene to watch.
She's got a really good character in this one. I really like her character. I really like this movie. The gore aspect of it is not... fulci's best right it's not to me extreme but it's still there uh as far as and there's some really good like cinematography like i like the way some of the scenes were shot like you get that sort of strobe like blinking strobe light in some of the murder scenes where you'll see basically sort of a bright blue light
that just stops right it alternates between dark and blue because it's sort of you know blinking on and off i thought that that was a really cool way to shoot some of the kill sequences um you also have a really good suspense sequence in a woman's house that ends with a kill but you only see it in the shadows which i thought was kind of cool i think
New York Ripper impacted Fulci maybe a little bit more than he would let on in terms of the violence he wanted to shoot after that. I think because that film was violence in such a realistic... context and he it was very polarizing to a lot of people i think he wanted to dial it back just a little bit and he did and
To varying results, I mean, I kind of wish some of the kills were bloodier and gorier, but there's some suspense here. There's enough red herrings, there's enough mystery, enough interesting characters to keep this one fun. It's not as good as some of his others, but it's still...
It's still very good. Agreed. And in 84 and the slasher moments, you know, we're deep into the slashers that this one definitely keeps the shallow feel. And I appreciated that. Giuseppe Panori did the cinematography and he does really.
good in this movie man he just really keeps the movie flowing well uh the scenes where he talked about with the flash and i love that because a lot of the scenes that were taking place were in like a locker room and they have like this automatic uh shut off where you know get to blah blah blah or lights are going out or whatever so it's that moment almost like a timer and they use that perfectly in this movie with those scenes and i thought they'd done great incorporating something from
out of the control of a movie and making it a movie. So that was awesome. That was really well done. Acting strong, music great, gore. Would have liked more for this type film, but still, I think they did okay with what they needed to do. I think the overall killer reveal was, I was pleased. I was okay with it. I wasn't upset with it.
I was like, okay, I can go with that. So overall, do you got anything on the dubbing corner on this one, Ian? So, yeah, as far as dubbing, I'm going to do some dubbing and casting stuff here. So Olga Carlitos, Troy Haworth was talking about how he thought she was dubbed by Carolyn DeFonsica. He said at certain points, though, and I kind of agree because I was like, I'm not sure if that's the case. It does kind of sound like her voice at times, but it may not be.
Ray Lovelock playing George is dubbed by Larry Dolgan. That one I knew right away. Claudio Castanelli as Dick is dubbed by Edmund Purdom. That one I also knew right away. That's an easy voice. Christian Borromeo, playing Willie, is dubbed by Steven Luoto. Cosimo Chinieri, playing Lucien Borges, is dubbed by Robert Sommer. And Giuseppe... Managhiolo, playing Professor Davis, is dubbed by Frank von Kugelen. That might be all I have. As far as other cast members go,
Al Cliver shows up for one scene in this, which I found strange. I was like, what the heck is he doing in this for one scene? He plays like that forensic analyst who's talking about the voice recordings and how you can make them sound different. Yes. Which I thought was pretty cool. That seemed actually more out of an Argento movie than a Fulci movie.
Yeah, because it actually, they used it kind of like a DNA or fingerprint scenario. So they kind of tied that in. I thought that was good. And then Sylvia Colatina. the little girl who played May in House by the Cemetery and was also in The Great Alligator. She plays Molly, a girl that someone's babysitting at one point, who seems...
Really obsessed with taking pictures of murder. She seems like a really troubled young girl. You know, the Italians love these little evil redheaded girls in their movies, so no different there. The music was done. Here we go. Who was it? Keith Emerson. You would know him from Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. If you know anything about progressive rock from the 70s, you will definitely know some Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. He's a keyboardist. Like I said.
Score great, dude. I had no problems. I like, this screams 80s, right? This is definitely not a 70s feel film. This is definitely of its time and its period, and Fulci just... nailed it i thought he'd done really good stepping away from gore a little bit giving us a little bit more subdued but at the same time giving you just enough and i thought he nailed both avenues of it Yeah, I agree. And Keith Everson's music is really fun. It's sort of a...
a blend of like sort of synth rock and disco in a way. Um, this isn't the only Italian film he did the music for. Cause he did the score for Dario Argento's Inferno. Yes.
which is not one of Argento's best movies, but I still enjoy it. I like it, but I do like the score as well. I think I like that movie more than... some people um but i i've always kind of enjoyed it and the score i remember being pretty good i think he also does the music for godzilla final wars as well oh wow yeah uh let's see what else we got on this one um
Did you like the reveal of the killer? I think you said so. Yeah, I like the reveal. The reason why I wasn't necessarily sure I enjoyed that much, I thought it was... a little too much like a slasher. There's actually a slasher from the late 80s that kind of does something similar to this. I won't say which one. Maybe you have an idea of which one I'm talking about.
And there might even be more than one that actually does this. There's actually a couple that kind of do something like this. But... Yeah, I think I liked the actual reveal more than the reason why. Like, who it ended up being did surprise me quite a bit. Yeah, same. Same, because they give you a red heron that you will think is absolutely the killer.
It plays out like it's the killer, but then, you know, it's a Jalo, so you get a twist, so I love that. What else we got on this one, Ian? What else you got on here? I know you saw or listened to the commentary and listened to some of the features as well on this one. Yeah, so the Jaretta Jaretta interview was fun. She had one story she told where...
She said Fulci never blew up on her. There was one moment where it's that scene where all the suspects are in the same room. And he was asking everybody, so what would you say... uh to to someone you know if you say hey someone's trying to kill me what like what would you say to that and she was like what and she did something melodramatic she was like i would say
Well, and then Fulci just laughed at her. He's like, what is that? He's like, what is that acting? Something from the 1800s. And Fulci just found it funny. He wasn't, you know, he didn't say anything bad or anything. So that was fun. Troy. Troy Howarth did a great job as usual. He did say he thought a lot of the budget probably went to Keith Emerson. He pointed out some of the dubbing that I couldn't actually recognize. And he also did say Claudio Cassanelli...
was supposed to actually play the Gianni Garko role in The Psychic. So this was Fulci circling back around to him to be in this movie. Nice. And Mickey Knox, actually, I didn't even say this. Mickey Knox is the one dubbing Fulci when Fulci has a... a small cameo in this film as a sort of another member of the dance studio, I guess.
I love when he does that Alfred Hitchcock moment where you just see if you can find Waldo. It's like, see if you can find Fulci. Most of the time he's prominent. You know exactly where he's at. Much like, what was that, Cat in the Brain? Of course, you know, one of the main characters in the movie. He does that sometimes. He'll just pop up like Alfred Hitchcock. Oh, there's Fulci. I love it. I love it. I love Fulci, dude. He's such a great dude.
All right, let's go ahead, I guess, Ian, and we'll start wrapping this one up. But what do you got on a rating for Murder Rock? I mean, give it an eight. Okay. That's funny because that's what I got. It's eight. It's a four on my letterbox all day long. So that's an eight in my book. And I recommend a purchase on this one, man. I think. I think if you're a slasher fan, you'll probably like this one too. So definitely get it if you like those 80s cheesy movies.
And you got to watch it for the flash dance scene anyways. It's such a, a odd, just how long was that? Like three minute. dance video. It's so freaking crazy. Dance aerobic workout video. Yes. Just think 1980 or what was it? 1984. What was Friday 13th? I think it was 1984. It would have been like 84. Yeah, just think of the doctor or the guy in the hospital sitting back there watching the Jazzercise. Axel. Axel. Yeah, that was his name, yeah.
That's exactly what you're getting at this movie. Isn't he the one who's like, Jesus, jump at fucking Christmas. Yes. I love that guy. So good. All right. So let's go to. Let's go to our calls right here, Ian. Let's go to our first one, which is from Darren from Northern California. Let's see what he's got for us. I'm going to pause this for a second because Darren's audio is clearly messed up. So hopefully we can hear this, Ian. I'm hoping we can make this out.
I enjoyed the performance of Jennifer Neal. In the 70s, I was a big fan of hers, actually, from movies like Reincarnation of Peter Proud. I don't have her film right in front of me, but I remember seeing her a lot back then. It was interesting seeing this movie. It moved kind of slow for me in a lot of places, but it still had an interesting story, and you kind of saw how it was building, every vision that you saw that you could see. that she was coming around to it.
Throughout the movie, there would be like a lot of fade to black and come back into the movie cutaways, which made it look like those were commercial breaks inserted for it. for a tv movie so it made me wonder if this was a movie that was made for italian tv uh so and i watched it on amazon prime so i'm sure i got the regular i'm sure i got the regular full version of it anyway i didn't know if you had any thoughts on that
I did not get a chance to see Murder Rock. Hopefully I can get around to that soon. All right. Hope you have a great show. I'll talk to you next time. Take care. Bye-bye. Man, what a bummer. He must have been going through tunnels. He liked the sidekick. He was going through the tunnels. Darren, man.
Yeah, I heard most of it for sure. The question he was asking there was, he did mention this in our Facebook group. If you're not a member of Land of the Creeps Facebook group, not page, group, definitely send an invite. Let us know you're listening.
invite you over uh but anyways he's talking about the cutaway like it felt like it was a made for tv movie and i i didn't really i guess i could pick up on it because of how subdued it is and kind of laid back a little bit but i didn't see anything where it was kind of blacked out you know because you know how they do those made for tv moves you'd have that commercial moment and they kind of fade to black and come back in i did did you notice i don't remember seeing that in the
Yeah, I didn't remember seeing it much. It certainly never distracted me. I've never heard anything about this being a possible television film. I mean, I know it probably wasn't. And it actually ended up being a pretty big box office bomb in Italy. They didn't really start doing too many films that were like that until like the late 80s and early 90s when television really was more the dominant medium at that point.
Yeah, definitely. And I think that was pretty. So Darren, watch Murder Rock, my friend. You're going to enjoy the hell out of Murder Rock. I know you enough now that you're going to totally, totally love Murder Rock. I promise you. So I'm throwing that one out there to you. I didn't want to say something real quick about Jennifer O'Neill as well. I didn't mention this, but...
It was interesting to read her Wikipedia. It's actually an interesting read if you just go read her Wikipedia. Apparently she was married nine times, twice to the same person. At one point she shot herself with her own gun. Somehow missed every vital organ and lived through it. But what an kind of an interesting life. It was like a 38 caliber. She was on.
She was on The Talk or The View, like one of those shows, maybe 10-ish years ago. I think you can probably still find that if you look around for it. So I don't think she's been in too many movies, although apparently this year she did play a small role in that movie.
that biopic of ronald reagan that has dennis quaid in it oh wow yeah and it was i think her first movie in like eight years wow yeah wonderful actress man for sure but yeah she definitely i read that about the shooting i'm like dude that's like a 38 caliber right in the gut like how did she's very fortunate dude very fortunate uh wow
All right, so let's see. That was Darren. So let's go to, I think this is Chris Bartoli for our last call here. Black Glove Mysteries. Hey, Land of the Creeps, Black Glove Mysteries. This is Chris Bartoli from Worcester, Mass.
and greg just want to say hi let you know how much i'm loving the show man love these double doubles black blood mysteries are great and what i was really thrilled about on the last one when you announced the movies and the one you announced the psychic i'm like shit that sounds familiar
I think I've seen that one. So, of course, I started, like, a Letterboxd account, like, last August. So anything I've seen since I put on, sure enough, The Psychic, there was. I watched it back in February of this year.
and i remember i really liked it too especially when i saw the poster i'm like yep and it was on shutter and i was sure because this is like one of the first times that you guys have announced a movie that is already seen like all right that's cool and what i love is like at the beginning of the movie Like, you see the entire psychic vision, and it doesn't make sense at the time. But then as the movie goes on, you got these little clues scattered about as to what's going on in the vision.
And I just love the way that it unfolds and when you actually see what's going on. Now, one thing I would recommend anybody... that hasn't seen it that wants to watch it that has shutter don't read the description on the shutter because it kind of gives away what's going on and i did that before i watched it so it's kind of but it was still a really good movie they did a great job
and so yeah so i just can't wait to hear you guys's uh thoughts on it too because i really did like that one a lot and i love the uh when you guys do the mortise talk from the mortise vision those off the cup off the cuff segments are really cool too, man. Love just hearing you guys chit chat about TV and movies and stuff like that. So anyways, all right, that's all I got. Love you guys, man. And keep your jelly on and bye. I love it.
Love Chris Martoli, man. That dude's awesome. Yeah, that was an awesome voicemail. Thanks. Yeah, and if I'm not following you on Letterboxd, Chris, you need to let me know, dude, because I don't remember. I don't even know who I'm following. I'll have to check, but I think I am. Same. Man, I have a hard time knowing who I'm following over on Letterboxd, to be honest.
But I do like if I've seen a movie and it'll have below people that's rated it. And I can look around and say, okay, there's Ian. There's Dave. There's Pearl. So it's kind of cool when I see faces. Okay, all right, I know them. That's cool. So, Chris, thank you for calling in, brother, and I appreciate the love for the show.
We love Black Glove Mysteries, of course. And then Pearl and I, she says thank you as well. We love Mortis Vision as well. We love talking to movies and TV and just all kinds of shazelle. That's what we do, man. We sit around and talk movies. But with that said, now, I want to go ahead and say, if you want to call in for any of the Mortis Vision and Black Glove Mystery episodes, you can do that. It's 1-804-569-5682. Yeah, guess what? The same.
call number. But all I ask you to do is say Black Glove Mysteries up front so it separates you from the other calls. That way I don't get them mixed up. So just make sure if you do call the 1-804-569-5682. Start out by saying Black Glove Mysteries and I'll know then, okay, that's for Ian and I or for... pearl and i so just do that and i man i welcome all calls right in we'll get into it you got any questions suggestions love hate whatever you want call in we'll go over it with you
But what are we going to do on the next episode of Black Glove Mysteries, Ian? So we're going back to Mario Bava. We're going to be doing Black Sunday and Black Sabbath. Black Sabbath, I've actually never seen. So I'm... Curious to see how that one turns out. Black Sunday, I've seen several times, and I'm on the record saying it is my favorite film ever shot in black and white. Woo!
I'm sorry. I had to get a little Black Sabbath in there. Oh, yeah. There's probably going to be some Aussie talk during that episode. No, I cannot wait, man. love these movies i've seen them both and i thought i had actually owned these and i'm kicking my arse because i don't think i own these i was looking in my file and i don't see them and i could have swore i had because barbara steel and black sunday hello i should have had that one Anyways.
But that's going to be your episodes. We did look them up. I think one of them is available on Tubi. I think they're both available on YouTube. They're available on, some of them are on Canopy. So just look them up. Black Sabbath and Black Sunday. Now you need to. clarify when you say this now when you look up
the movie Black Sunday. There are a couple Black Sundays. You want to go for 1960 Black Sunday, okay? Yeah, don't watch the John Frankenheimer one about the Super Bowl. Yeah, totally different. The terrorists at the Super Bowl, which is a great movie. movie really good movie yeah that's actually the story thomas harris wrote before he wrote uh silence of the lambs but uh yes not that version yeah watch that later
But listen to us, watch 1960s Black Sunday and then look up Mario Bob and then you'll check out Black Sabbath as well. So that's going to be the next episode. We're super excited about that. And then we got something really exciting after that, Ian, coming up in January.
uh, something we're going to do. And I don't know if we want to tease that yet or not, but, uh, well, we can just say it's the same thing we did last January. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. There's your answer. Yeah. And Pearl told me, I got to say Merry Christmas.
thank you love because this is the christmas episode technically sorry hello merry christmas and and whatever else so yeah there you go i want to do something like like say something weird right here like something maybe like uh kevin or something from home alone like you know why did you leave me alone or i don't know i should come up with something buzz quote or something but i'm not i'm just gonna say merry christmas
and everything and we'll see you on the next episode so ian you got anything in closing so you can find me at erzonomics on uh
Twitter, also known as X, Instagram, and Blue Sky. You can add me on Facebook or on Letterboxd. I've been more active on Letterboxd lately, just trying to do... reviews of movies that I'm watching and I've been watching some you know just some stuff lately that I that I haven't really seen before so it's been fun and a lot of Christmas horror as well it's been fun watching some Christmas horror movies specifically once I
Haven't seen. Not that a whole lot of them have been that great, but Dead End was pretty good. I will say that much. That was a pretty fun movie. Windchill was okay as well. Nice. Well, cool. Follow Ian over here on all these avenues, definitely his blog. And then also definitely check him over on Letterboxd too, see what he's watching. So with that said, you can follow us at Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. I'll save this to the end of the episode. Mortis Vision, we will have...
Mortis Vision. We'll probably be recording that tomorrow night. And I think Pearl will come out with maybe some of our favorite Christmas movies that we watch, like Christmas horror movies. So I think that might be what we'll be covering over on Mortis Vision. So hang tight for that since it's the... The holiday season will give you something holy and holly to deal with. So that said, until next time, keep your jally on. Peace.
LOTC presents Mortis Vision with Greg Amortis and the Twisted Tentress. Ho Ho Ho Merry MNFing Christmas, everybody. This is Greg on Mortis, along with... The Twisted Temptress. That's right. This is Mortis Vision with the Mortises, and this is our holiday edition, Pearl. Yes, it is. Ho, ho, ho, MFing. Motherfriggers. Are you, like, saying ho, ho, ho, or are you... calling a ho ho ho it could be a little bit of both ho ho like hey yo ho ho
So this is exciting. We're going to be just doing some Christmas horror. So what we're going to do is go over some Christmas horror movies. Maybe ones that we like to watch. Maybe some that we haven't watched. Maybe some we should watch. But...
Those that will get you on the naughty list and maybe some of those will put you on the nice list. Right, Pearl? Yes. So that's what we're going to do. But I think before we do that, we've got to do this, love. I think we need to do something like this. Yeah. Those who have not, it's understood. Promise will come, looking for some. You are unsafe, best that you run. You're on his list, not what you wish. This curse comes, you will be missed. There is no hope, take your home.
That's right. His Krampus is coming after you, you little kitties. We're not talking Santa. We're talking Krampus. When that bell tingles and dingles, you better watch out because you're fixing to lose a brain or a head or something. Right, Pearl? Yep. I love it. Well, cool. That was a little of the Krampus bells, I guess, the Carol of the Bells.
You can actually listen to that soundtrack over on, I guess you can purchase it, actually, Pearl, but that is the soundtrack, part of the soundtrack from the movie Krampus from Michael Doherty, who brought us Trick or Treat, and then he brought us... Yeah. Yeah, he brought us... Krampus. And such a good movie. I can remember that when we went to the Universal Studios.
the horror night oh yeah they were playing that as well like they had the krumpus house and everything yeah they had a cool little section in disneyland we went and uh this was when was this 20 2019 2018 no yeah 2019 and uh it was during the halloween season but they did have a section of christmas horror and it was really cool man because of the
They had Krampus walking around. It was just really creepy looking, man. I loved it. The Christmas lights, red. Oh, good times, Pearl. Good times. But we're super excited. Pearl and I are still a little bit under the weather. Our voices are still there. We still got a little bit of the... cough but we're on the mend i think we're finally getting there uh hopefully by christmas time you know krampus won't come visit us because of our colds right i know he did but i ate all the cookies she ate
Cookie Lurkey, Cookie Lurkey, whatever it was, 0010, I don't know which one was. Lurkey. I want to say it was Lurkey, though. For some reason, I think Lurkey. Probably, but because I... Have it in my hand, Lukey. I know, it could be Lukey too. But anyways, hopefully he won't come visit us. But like I said, we're going to run down a few lists of...
some horror movies that we like to watch or maybe some that we have never watched. Like I said, uh, so that's kind of it, but this is episode four Oh five, double double 51. If you're keeping in touch, you just heard black glove mysteries with Ian and I, but now we're with Mortis vision and we're super excited.
So I think without further ado, Pearl, we'll just kind of get into some lists. Maybe look down at some that we've seen that we'd like to watch. You got any right off the top of your head, Pearl, that you want to throw out some that... that you like to watch for the Christmas season? P2. P2. True story. Pearl watches P2 a lot, and it doesn't even have to be Christmas time. That movie, if you've never seen it, it's actually a really entertaining movie. It has action. It has slasherism in it.
bentley yeah that's right but it's from 2007 directed by frank cal calphoon calphoon um and produced by alexandra aha And stars Rachel Nichols and Wes Bentley. And it's a really good movie. Pearl, it's a funny thing because anytime we go to a parking deck, we always look for P2. Because we know we'll never forget P2, right? Yeah.
We did that when we went to L.A. We would never forget, supposedly. Forget, but we did. But P2. So we look for P2 when we usually go to a parking deck. Maybe I shouldn't have said that because they'll be looking for us now. I know, right? But then we couldn't even find our own. That was the whole long story. We've already went through that story. Go back and listen to our bonus episodes back in the day we went through that one. I don't want to revisit that nightmare for Christmas. But...
If you've never seen this one, man, definitely check out P2. I highly recommend it. Really, really entertaining film for sure. I'll throw out this one, Pearl, 2016. This one caught me by surprise, but this one's Red Christmas. The one with Dee Wallace. Oh, yeah. And I really enjoyed this one. This one directed by Craig Anderson. Stars Sam Campbell, David Collins, Dee Wallace. Got a pretty good cast in this one for sure. Sarah Bishop's in it.
um alistar baits but if you've never seen it man it's it's it's very entertaining like it has its moments of of creepiness pearl i think and it's kind of it's kind of twisted It is. I mean, it's one of those that make you be like, well, your sins or redeem yourself. It makes you think twice about your life. True. Yeah, totally.
You got another one to throw out there? You know what? This one's not Christmas, but it makes me feel like Christmas because of all the snow, but it's Ghost Story 1981. You know, I keep... I still don't know that I've seen that movie. I feel like I have, but I don't know that I have. That's a great cast. Fred Astaire, Alice Cringe, Lance Holcomb, John Houseman.
Wow. I feel like I've seen it. I swear I know I've seen it, but I can't tell you anything about it. I watched it before. I don't know if you were there or you fell asleep. I probably fell asleep like I normally do. I'm not going to lie. I'm a sleeper. You work hard. Eh, you know. I don't know about working hard, but I'm working. How about this one, Pearl? I loved this movie when it came out. And they changed the name when it went to Walmart because...
Because they suck. But it was 2015's A Christmas Horror Story. Oh, yeah. I love that movie, man. I just really... I love... Santa Claus in this one. I love the aura around this one. I just think the cast is fun. The movie's fun. Had three directors, Grant Harvey, Stephen Hoban, and Brett Sullivan. But a very entertaining film. I thought Krampus looks really cool in this one. The horned...
You know, Krampus. Yeah. And I just love it. I just really, really, really thought this movie was really good. And I know that Walmart changed it. William Shatner in this one too, by the way. It was awesome. But I think they changed it from a Christmas horror story to something like...
I forget what it was. I can't even remember now, but I know they changed the name because they didn't want Christmas and horror together, I guess, or whatever, because Walmart sucks like it. But yeah, if you've never seen a Christmas horror story, man, you've got to watch that one. Really fun. I don't get it either. I mean, it's kind of discrimination because they'll sell horror toys and things like that, but you can't a movie.
Well, that's the thing. Like, a lot of their movies, they sell in there, because, you know, they do the whole, they're supposedly quote-unquote a Christian somewhat organization or whatever, right? So, you know, they don't sell CDs with... Like, all their CDs are edited, okay? Or their music is edited. But the albums aren't. Movies aren't. I don't get it. I mean, they're just such an odd...
Weird thing, but yeah, they said, no, we can't have that on the title. No, we don't want Christmas and horror together. I'm going to be a bug humbug for a moment.
i'll be like i wouldn't have guests because i didn't know that until you just told me right now i didn't know it was had anything to do with christians or anything you wouldn't know that but how walmart increase their customers oh yeah that's a long story and don't matter what walmart that's right that's right all right so christmas horror story for me throw another one out pearl Gremlins. Gremlins. Pearl says she wants to hear some gremlins. We're going to hear some gremlins.
We're being attacked by gremlins. Oh, my God, dude. You got to do it. You said gremlins, so we had to throw it on her. Oh, I so bad want one. Like, I really want Gizmo. I want Stripe, too. Yeah. But I really, really, really want to find a place like the way the old man did and find a Mogwai. A Mogwai would be awesome.
Oh, no, you sound like Scuttle from Seagull. I want the Gremlin. I think it was Gizmo. No, I know Spike, but did they have Gizmo? But you remember when they had Trick or Treat brought out the ones that are like three foot tall? Two or three foot tall. I want it so freaking bad. I got to get that somehow, love. We have to manage to get that. That would be cool. But yeah, Gremlins is like a staple horror movie. It's not only just Christmas, but it is a Christmas.
horror movie and i think a lot of people watch it during the christmas season 1984 and i think it's because of of the the spirit of it it's snowy it's involved in christmas time joe dante nailed that that part of it right and i think the cast is great zach galligan phoebe cates holy cow every young every guy of my age
was a, had a crush on Phoebe Cates. Phoebe Cates was, she was amazingly hot. Yeah, I'm telling you, she was amazingly hot. And they had Dick Miller and Laurie Feldman. Yep. And so it was one of those deals where that, That movie hit at the right time in the eighties and it never gets old. I never get tired of watching that. Corey Feldman in there with the whole scene with him and, uh, uh, Zach, you know, talking about don't feed him at night and all this stuff. And what all happens is so free.
Freaking well told. It's probably one of the better to best Christmas related horror movies for a overall audience. Like younger people can watch it along with us, right? Yeah. So you can definitely bring in your 13-year-old kids or whatever, maybe even younger than that, sit down and watch a Christmas horror movie like this one and have a good time with it. So good soundtrack, good cast, Joe Dante crushing it.
Great pick. Love that one. I get a kick out of PBK's, though. Every holiday had a story. Yeah. That's right. That's right. Sure did. Let's see. Another one, because I'm going to save some of my big ones to the end. But I think, let's see. I'm going through some lists here. Oh, here's one we just finished watching the tail end of yesterday, and I really thoroughly enjoyed this one, Pearl. 2010's Rare Exports. Oh, yeah, they are. Jamari Helander.
I think this is Dutch, if I'm not mistaken, or German. It might be German. I need to look that up real quick so I don't misquote that. But it is subtitled and so well told. It's a really... uh it's finnish so finland and norway france sweden so well told in the way that it's brought out with this little kid we have this little kid that's trying to save christmas and
uh thoroughly enjoy it man if you've never seen rare exports from 2010 it's an hour and 24 minutes of really good goodness for sure all right pearl what you got i want to go with something new oh i i had a kick And a fun time with the dear Santa. Now, this is not horror. This is the one with Jack Black. Well, no, not necessarily. It might not be full horror, but the horror element of it was that he was Krampus.
uh yeah this could be a gateway and i'm talking a gateway to well no not really i can't even say that because it's actually got some subject matter that if you let little little youngins it probably wouldn't be good for them but It's one that you can let most people watch. And like I said, it doesn't really follow a horror element. Let the listener know, like it's 2024. The star Jack Black directed by Bobby Farley. So basically this kid.
He's dyslexic. Dyslexic. Yeah, he's dyslexic. And instead, he's writing a letter to Santa. But he doesn't spell Santa. And Jack Black, you know, who plays... a minion you know he's krumpus for the time being yeah he receives a letter and he decides he's going to answer it that's right By answering it, he's going to grant him three wishes. He's playing the role of a genie. After those three wishes, well, he comes to collect.
Yeah, the funny and and I'm not laughing at dyslexia by any means. So don't anybody misquote me on that. That is not why I'm laughing at because of the fact. That Jack Black gets this letter. Instead of it saying Santa. It says Satan. And he gets this letter. And he's all excited. That's what's so funny. Because he gets a letter. And he's like.
hmm it's the funniness of him coming up like he's so excited that some kid actually wrote him a letter he's like oh my god somebody actually wrote to me you know and then then it becomes what it is i love this movie man it should not be good than it is uh if you've seen any jack black movie
You know exactly what you're getting, right, Ferrell? Yeah. And you get it. You get it. And you get it. I love it. You got to overlook the acting, the kid actors. I always overlook kid actors. I'm going to be honest. Not good. But... The movie's entertaining. I actually like Jaden Carson, the one who played Gibby. Gibby. He was just a good friend.
He was a great friend, honestly. One that stuck with him through the end. But Jack Black and then a little Tenacious D up in there, you'll get to see. So, yeah, boom. Good choice, love. Dear Santa. There again, not really horror. But it has Satan in it, so you can go with that. Yep. How about 1997's Jack Frost from Michael Cooney. Oh yeah. Oh, everybody's got like a little snowman, a little bit of Jack Frost nipping at your nose. And if you go back to...
Oh, God, I should have it in front of me, and I don't. I'm sorry, Justin Beam. But if you go to the last episode or two of Justin Beam, he actually interviewed Michael Cooney. So you get to hear him talking to him about Jack Frost, right, Pearl? That was good stuff. So, yeah, Jack Frost. Crawls for me. 1997. Love it. Scott McDonald and Christopher Alport. Pearl, we're moving along. What you got? You got another one? I have the advent calendar.
Oh, I love that movie. That was surprisingly good. That was really good. And that one, if I'm not mistaken, didn't that make... I want to say that might have made my top 10 of that year. You had it on your list. I'm pretty sure I did. And yeah, I'm almost positive I did. That was such a movie that caught me by surprise. I was like...
what is this movie? And then we watched, I think it was like on shutter or something like that. And I was thoroughly impressed with it. I thought they, they handled it so well.
It has some gore. It has some moments in it that'll catch you by surprise with 2021. I'm almost positive. I'm really... really certain that that was in my top 10 of that year and and i'm sure if i went back and did a search over at land the creeps i could probably find that that list because i didn't put i don't know why i didn't do it on letterbox i probably need to one day i did start putting some of my lists uh now
my current list. Uh, but yeah, we'll see. I don't know. Like I said, I'm pretty sure that it was over there. If not, it was definitely close to being in my top 10 for sure. uh but anyways advent calendar pearl you you nailed it right there i'm i actually have my list pulled up here so let's see if i had it on there top 10 of 2021 and i actually did not have it on my list of 2021
Interesting. My top 10 at 2021, O'Pearl, Last Night in Soho was my number one movie. No, I could have swore you had, unless it was on someone else's podcast. It might have been, I don't know. But yeah, it didn't make it nowhere. But it's still such a good movie, man. I highly recommend checking out the Advent Calendar.
Let's see here. So for me, next one, I'm a champion of this. This has been mentioned a few times recently over in the group page and on the podcast. And I got to give a shout out to Stephen C. Miller. And it's 2012 Silent Night. I really enjoyed this. This is kind of a remake, re-imaging of Silent Night, Deadly Night. Now, Silent Night, Deadly Night is a way better movie. It's... To be honest, that's one of those Holy Grail movies. Silent Night, though, is, for my opinion, entertaining.
And I think it has some good kills in it. There's a really good wood chipper scene in it. I think the acting with Jamie King in there, and you also have Malcolm McDowell and some other characters, I think are entertaining. I think it has a good atmosphere. I think...
Mr. Watson, I think one of his only gripes, he really enjoys this movie, but I know one of his gripes is the lack of snow. And I totally agree with that. I mean, this should have had... just a a wrong turn remember wrong turn six i believe it was it was in the snow yeah um this one screamed should have been in a snow bank right with a lot of blood and and i don't know why
We don't get enough of that. But, yeah, Silent Night, though. I'm going to recommend 2012 for one of your watches. I think everybody should check that one out. I definitely love watching that movie. What else you got there, Pearl? You know what? One that makes me want to watch for some reason because it has this good twist. It's dark, but it's The Lodge. Oh, nice. Yeah, for the kids.
Doing what they do to the girl. Yeah. The new girlfriend. Yeah. While the father's away. Uh-huh. It just. It was creepy. Yeah. That one definitely made my top ten of that year. And I know that without. i doubt 2019 uh that was a really really really good movie and had a great cast man just such a great cast that like jaden martle and jaden has just
Man, he is amazing. He is such a great actor. We got to see him at the convention we went to at Spooky Empire in South Carolina where we met Bill and Greg P and their buddy and such a great time. But Jaden, man, just really... Listening to him on the stage, he's hilarious, funny, witty, such a good cast, but he was in It. 2017 i have not seen y2k he's in y2k in 2024 but he was also in arcadian uh one of the main members of arcadian if you've not seen that that could
Possibly pop up on a few people's 2024 top 10 list, but a really good movie with Nicolas Cage, but he's in that as well. So, uh, Jadine Martell, man, such a great actor. And of course, Alicia Silverstone, who you mentioned in Pearl was great. So good stuff. Cool. Cool, man. You're throwing out some good ones, love. How about I go way back to 1980? Let's go to 1980, Pearl. Let's go to Christmas Evil.
The Santa Claus that's off his rocker. The toy factory worker who's kind of lost his marbles. And it's directed by Lewis Jackson, Brandon Maggart. Such a... weird movie it's dark it's twisted but it's like watching a a psychological meltdown of somebody like he just legit goes completely
mad. I mean, he's so obsessed with Christmas. He's so obsessed with Santa Claus. He's so obsessed with toys that he works at a toy store, but he just starts losing his marbles, man. It just completely gets... wow dude this is crazy that and there might be people like it i hope not but anyways yeah that's that's that's one i'm gonna throw out there love well i got one i got a particular santa who is a little crazy uh-oh Really big. Are you going with mine? Yeah. Big old wrestler. Coburn.
Yes. Yeah. And Santa Sleeve. Yes. Oh, my God. I had it right in front of me. That is so awesome you picked it up. What is it about 2005 Santa Sleeve? everything i mean he just makes it like you just know he's coming at you you just like you just don't want to go there you you're you're ready to run away anyway oh my god That opening monologue and everything that's going on around the dinner table is so great. But what makes this movie is the one-liners and the stuff that freaking Goldberg does.
Yeah, the stripper pole scene. Yeah. If anybody's seen it, knows exactly what I'm talking about. Or a scene when he's going down the road and he's like, move, bitch, get out of the way. And he got that old lady driving a car. Oh my God, dude. I will legit watch this movie any time of the year.
But I'm going to tell you what, you definitely watch it during the Christmas time. Such a great movie. Shouldn't be. It's Goldberg. Goldberg is not an actor, but God dang if he didn't crush it as Santa Claus. Oh, God. I know, right? Love that choice, love. Great. Great pick. I'd put that on top of my list. That's right up there. Way up top on that for me. It is. I mean...
Like I said, you can't go wrong. It's just one of those movies that's like, oh man, I gotta see it again. Have fun. How about this movie? How about 2010? From Dickmas. And let's go Saint. Or Sint. Right? I love this movie, man. This is the telling of Santa Claus from the Dutch side of things. The Dutch culture.
where you're supposed to leave your shoes and different things. Oh, my God, dude. This movie has one of the creepiest, I don't know, St. Nicholas, whatever you want to call him. He is so freaking creepy in this movie, man. It's so... awesome. The horse looks killer. It's got some really cool effects in this one. It looks great. It's got snow. It's got action. You know, you got fire sequences, man. This is such a freaking good movie. I will.
Definitely, definitely, definitely put a stamp of Greg Amortis approval on this movie for anybody that's looking for something maybe they haven't never seen. This one definitely is worth putting on your watch list if you've never seen it. And once again, it's 2010s. saint s-a-i-n-t has like a pope looking santa claus on a horse uh so freaking good but did you like that one love i did yeah nice all right what you got next you know what i got
Christmas, bloody Christmas. Yes! That one, you know what? What? To agree with all the people who actually come out with that Terminator thing. Uh-huh. Here's your Terminator. The Terminator slasher. This is what makes it. At least he uses like a blade. He does. He has an axe. He has an axe. He has a sword. He has so many things that actually you can't slice with. That's right. A piercer. A piercer of skin.
I love Christmas, Bloody Christmas. I thought it was great, even though he is spoiler robotic, but I don't care, man. And here was the thing. There was... backlash with people with the dialogue and it was really dialogue heavy as far as people didn't believe it and it didn't feel believable and all that. Dude, I totally have been around people like this.
uh the woman and the main guy in this movie man i've totally been around people like that so it felt perfectly fine with me i you know that's that's kind of the crowd i've been with before uh so it felt realistic to me other than a robotic santa claus coming at you you but uh man this thing's got gore galore and i know brian scott is screaming at me right now you preach it greg because i know brian scott is a huge fan of this movie
Brian Scott's also a huge fan of another movie. Yeah. I know exactly which one. I know a bunch of them. I mean, Silent Night, Deadly Night, part one and two. He's a huge fan of part two. Garbage Day. Not as big a fan of number two as he is, but it's definitely a fun movie. Number one is Perfect Me, Silent Night, Deadly Night. That one we definitely watch every Christmas. It's a mainstay. We have to watch it. How about Elves? I know you weren't a fan of Elves.
No, I'm not a fan of elves. I like Grizzly Adams in this movie. It's like, why is Dan Haggerty in this freaking movie Elves? But you can't see him as anything else. Well, I know, but I don't need to. This is Jeffrey Mandel, and I'm telling you right now, like... Why in the blazes has this movie never been released on Blu-ray or 4K? Like, holy crap, did somebody release elves for crying out loud? Oh!
Oh, I need it. I need it. I need this movie. I need Elves 1989 on 4K or whatever. I need it. I got to have it. Must have it. It's a must? Must. All right, Pearl, what you got? My favorite Northman, he plays a very good Santa in this one, Violent Nights. Violent Nights. Okay, so this one was the one from a couple years ago. Yes. Okay, yeah. Violent Night. Though it's action and has somewhat comedy, I still find the horror in it because...
You have a break-in. You have people, you know, being kidnapped. You got John Leguizamo doing a hell of a good job being a villain. You know, I mean, you can see some of the horror in it. I can see it's a home invasion for sure. It does have comedy, but I think the comedy is handled perfectly. Like it's not over the top comedy. Yeah, it's not. In my opinion, I think it's handled in a... comedic serious way so it's not like you're you know like a slapstick look at the camera and go ha ha ha
And Santa got a dark side. Oh, Santa's got a really dark side. And I love that it's David Harbour from Stranger Things. Yes. He was perfectly cast. and we know that we're getting a part two now yay it's been announced so that's david harbour has announced a part two this is a a very very good movie With a lot of gore.
Great action sequences. If you like shootings and stuff like that, it's definitely there. And the cast is really strong in this one. John Leguizamo. I can never say his name right. Leguizamo. Yeah, him. beverly d angelo yes from the lampoon vacations oh still looking as beautiful as ever uh she done tremendous i mean this is a really really really good movie i'm glad you picked uh
Pick that one out because I want listeners to know Violent Night is a must watch for Christmas season. You heard it. You heard it. How about 2003's Dead End? Jean-Baptiste André. That one was a good one. It's kind of like Groundhog Day in horror. yeah you know they're driving down the road and what's happening is ray wise and lynn shea and they're driving down the road it's you know they're going to visit the parents the road just keeps going
And going. That would be scary. That would paranoia me. Yeah. Because I'd be like.
are we ever getting there yeah i mean like oh we're we're not getting anywhere we're either in twilight zone we're gone we're dead well when they pass like that rest area thing twice and you're like oh crap dude and they know they never turned you're like uh so it's a terrifying in my opinion without it being a what do you call it like a a and it does have some paranormal and different things in it but without it being
whatever i'm trying to think of than the word it's it's a very scary movie in my opinion because of that aspect like you you're stuck somewhere and you can't get out you're just continuously going what do you do i know traumatizing definitely psychological for sure so i love that movie dead end man all right throw one pearl i'm gonna go in a different little route i mean because what's christmas without music without
Some sheer in it. But some sheer with some fight. Oh, I know where you're going. Yeah? Am I right? Zombie apocalypse. It's Anna and the Apocalypse. Yes, I knew it! Anna and the Apocalypse. Dude, what a great movie. That one right there, Pearl, what is it about it? I mean, I know what I love about it. I just love the fact that, I mean...
i'm not one that's too crazy about musicals but this one did it right yeah you know it wasn't overbearing and it was fun and i mean what a way to fight while hearing good old silent night and other things like that yeah yeah and in the apocalypse 2017 man that movie is so strong i'm a huge fan of musicals i'm not ashamed of it john mcfell directed this one but um
I love it. I think the music in this one is so good. This one would rank... I remember we did our musical horror episode, and Phantom of the Paradise was my number one, Rocky Horror number two. I, man, and an apocalypse jumped, man. It's probably top 10 for me. It's probably top 10. I've got to admit, I mean, it's really strong.
reap other genetic operas up in there uh love that soundtrack and that musical uh Sweeney Todd you know so I don't know man I just really like this movie I'm glad you chose it and it's zombies man it's like freaking so funny too like there's so many scenes in this that make you like
fun laugh out loud like there's a scene where this woman's like hitting one of the zombies in the head with like a hammer over and over and over and you're like what are we doing here uh but it has such great gore uh the lead actress is freaking phenomenal uh i believe that was uh ella hunt i think maybe uh but she is so well done in this movie man yeah ella hunt who plays anna and man
She kicked ass. She kicked ass, dude. She freaking kicked ass. Great movie, love. Good job, Anna and the Apocalypse. I love that movie. You choosing really well tonight, love. How about I change it up a little bit then? How about we go to a, not a movie per se, but an anthology that has a movie clip in it, like a segment.
okay you know where i'm going we're going to an episode of tales from the crypt and this is from 1989 it's called all through the house um and this one right here there's two different ones right pearl yep the one i'm going to mention is the one this is not the uh Kind of, I guess, quote unquote, original version. This is the one they released later. Tales from Crypt did this in the original movie. So you had a Christmas one called All Through the House. And that one was really, really good.
and you uh who was it collins uh joan collins i believe it was but uh you had santa claus who was a mental patient that escaped and went to this woman's house kind of deal same thing in this one but this was in one of the tv when they did the seven seasons of tales from a crip uh this was the 1989 episode and this one had larry drake playing the off the rocker
Santa Claus. And he looked amazing. Yeah. Looked amazing. And it had Mary Ellen Traynor in it. Directed by Robert Zemeckis. Loved it. Loved it. If you've not seen it, check it out. Well, you know what? Then I have an episode then, too. What? Tales from the Dark Side. Uh-huh. Season of Beliefs.
Two kids who are being bratty, but, you know, we're told to sit down and listen to a story or else the Grim Grim will come after them. It's the Gritter. Gritter. Okay, I know which one you're at now. Yeah, it's called Season of Beliefs. Okay, good one, good one.
Are y'all writing these down? Like, I hope you guys and gals are writing these down. Like, dude. But it's, like, funny because, like, Tales from the Crib, you know, obviously, you know, Monsters and Tales from the Dark Side, they have so many... Christmas ones that are like... They do. They totally do. How about...
How about the directed David Hess, our great friend David Hess, who we lost several years ago. Unfortunately, love David Hess. How about his To All A Good Night? This is a slasher flick. Beautiful prep school students face Yuletide horror when a killer in a Santa Claus suit stalks their campus. Man, throw that one out there, man. I got to give it to you. David Hess.
It's got its problems. I'm not going to lie. It's not the best made movie. But it's David Hess. It's Christmas horror. To all, a good night. Watch it. Check it out. I think it's good for the Christmas season, Pearl. And then you got to think about the kitties. You got to think about how they might want to see the Oogie Boogie Man, Chop, Block, and Barrel, Jack and Sally. Merry Christmas!
Making Christmas. You gotta like that, right? Yeah, Kidnap Santa Claus. Yeah, so Nightmare Before Christmas is such a good movie. It definitely is. It's one of the... Well, I don't want to say one of the greatest that Danny Elfman and Tim Burton did, but it is one of the greatest. Yeah. And we had fun seeing it in theater. Yes, we did. That was good. There's nothing better than seeing it in theater.
I know. But I also love... That's one thing like Haunted Mansion and Disneyland. Well, they'll play this and they take over and they're like, you know, making Christmas. Yeah. That's true. Let's see here. What are a couple others? I'm going to throw Krampus out again. We've already mentioned it at the beginning, but I do want people to check out Krampus. I think that that's a movie. It's a must of my favorite.
yeah i mean pearl absolutely loves it and i do too i think it's it's it's and it's here's the thing make sure you watch the right one Because there are a bunch of Krampus movies out there. There's some that's just not really good, I'll be honest. There's some that are just really shitty. But if you want to watch a really top-notch Krampus movie with a great soundtrack score, with great acting, everything you want in a movie, it's 2015.
2015. It's called Krampus. And this one was directed by Michael Doherty. And this one stars Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Kulchner. There's so many good actors and actresses in this movie. And even Conchata Farrell, who we lost a few years ago, but she was in Two and a Half Men.
The maid over there, I love her. This movie is perfect, Krista Stadler. So if you've not seen it, man, I highly put it on your must-watch list if you've never seen Krampus 2015. And I feel like you're going to really enjoy it. does have a lot of humor but then it does get serious too but they do the seriousness in a humorous way so it works uh but why wouldn't you do it that way so Krampus 2015
You have got to, got to, got to check that one out. Right, Pearl? Yeah, you got to see all the cookies and all the dolls coming to life. Watch out cause Krampus is gonna come get you. Oh, whose turn is it, Pearl? Oh, I don't know. That was mine. I picked that one. So what's yours next? You know what? Well, it's not horror, though. Okay, that's fine.
Throw it out. But it's the one we just saw last night. Oh, dude. Red one. Red one. Red one from 2024. Listeners. Well, actually, it has some horror in it. it does yeah wait it does the cryptid part yeah the the when it gets into the mythological side of things and uh it kind of you go to krampus world i guess you could call it right It does get dark. It's really dark. But, dude, I've got to tell you, this movie surprised me. And it surprised me in a good way. This is available on Prime.
Amazon Prime, right, for free. Yep. And it's still at the theaters, I think. I think it's still at the theater. But anyways, this one, Jake Caston, this one has such a good cast, even though... I'm not going to say I'm getting tired, but I am getting a little worn with Dwayne Johnson because he's been in so many movies. Yeah. And...
I want to say he's a one-trick pony. He is a one-trick pony. He's a big dude that plays big dude parts, right? Nothing different in here. He's basically Santa Claus's bodyguard. Callum. Callum Drift. St. Nicholas. Santa Claus is played by J.K. Simmons. Perfect. Perfect. A chef kiss to the sky. Right. Perfect Santa Claus. You got Jack O'Malley played by...
Chris freaking Evans. Holy crap. What a prick. And Lucy Liu looking so good as Zoe. So good. And the one that you can't say her name or she'll hear you. That's right. Don't say the word. Grayla? Played by Kieran and Shipka. That's right. Everybody knows Kieran and Shipka by now. Man, this movie shouldn't be good, but it actually is. It's really entertaining. It is. It's a perfect family night type. Yeah, it's gathering kids because the kids can watch this.
and gather the adults and everybody sit around, have a Yuletide time, and just have fun with this movie because it's actually really good. I've got to give it to Pearl. Red One is a lot of fun. If you've not seen it, definitely check it out. This movie should not be good, but it is. I promise you it's good. Is it great? No, it's got a lot of problems, but still at the same time, I had so much fun with this movie. I got to throw out my heavy hitter, love. I got to throw it out.
1974. You know where I'm going. Black Christmas. Bob Clark. It just don't get better than that movie for Christmas. Other than... My favorite of the Christmas season, which is Silent Night, Deadly Night. But Black Christmas, man, that movie, such a breath of fresh air. So good. The suspense, the thrill, the kill. Everything about this movie just works, man. It's so good. Mm, mm, mm. Screw that. So that. Silent Night, Deadly Night, and Black Christmas from 1974. Both those movies.
perfect for the Christmas season. You got any other ones, Pearl? No, not really. I mean, not ones that I would particularly be up for watching. I mean. Yeah. you know you got your normal other ones you know other side of the night strangers in the house Terrifier 3. That's true, yeah. Brian Scott's probably screaming that. We haven't mentioned that yet. Yeah. I had nothing like Art the Clown in a Santa suit.
i know right or even the nutcracker massacre i've not seen that movie so i don't know it screams horror when you hear nutcrackers uh yeah all us men go pictures all through the house the gingerbread man yeah there you go you got that one so many good ones man I think we threw out enough I think we've given everybody
a list of movies that they can definitely watch like you got the idea you do you definitely got the idea i mean there's no doubt about that one so you know which one i do want to mention though what's that love wind chill oh that's a good one It is. Because, I mean, same thing. What if you get trapped in the snow when you're going to a family's home and yet there's a disturbing presence? You know, there's something there waiting for you that's replaying.
something that happened a long time ago yeah yeah 2007 uh gregory jacobs uh windshield definitely paranormal-ish uh spirited type movie but it's definitely during the holidays so it falls for christmas it falls for it because i mean you got paranormal all the time with scrooge that's true so that's a really good one how about this pearl how about this right here Tick-tock! Tick-tock! Tick-tock!
No, no, no, no. Ah! Yeah, TikTok! Oh, my God, dude. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Muppets Christmas. Hello. Hello. Do you like my decorations? Do you like my shiny decorations? Uh, no. I know, right? He's like, do you like my little shiny balls? You're the prettiest tree I've ever sold. Oh, my God. Look that video clip up, listeners, and have a blast.
Shiny Christmas tree. Yeah, the other one's playing. He's like, here, do this. I know. Go on YouTube and find the evil tree. Oh, don't do it. Don't do it. You'll laugh too hard, man. So freaking funny. But definitely check out the movies. I hope you wrote your list down. If not, re-listen and write these movies down. If you have not seen some of these,
put them on your watch list. Maybe watch something new this year. Maybe you have your regular, like we do, yearly watch, but maybe this year change it up a little bit and throw a few that we mentioned that you haven't seen and see what happens. I still have not fully... seen better watch out i need to do that i have seen parts of it and you need to watch some things in the barn because you like your nomies i do need to watch some things in the barn christmas nomies yeah i love christmas
Christmas gnomes. Yep, I do. The gnomies are fun, as Pearl says. Not gnomes. She calls them gnomies. Yes, I reword my own stuff. She does reword everything. Everything. See, like I'm drinking soda, but it's not soda. It's sody. It's Sody. Pearl does not know nothing about soda. She don't know nothing about pop. She knows Sody, though. Yep. So I love it. Pearl, what else you got for tonight? Are we closing out now?
I'm just gonna say you know what Merry Christmas everyone and thank you for being in our lives and hope you have a better year and wishing everyone the best of health the brighter future and you know just live life that's right now i gotta reiterate that too just be good to each other love each other and uh hold each other up when
someone's going down, help them go back up. And hopefully when you're going down, they'll help you back up. Right. So that's what it's all about. Share the Yuletide tidings. That's give horror out to everyone. You got to, I love it. support the show love us we love you So love us. We love it. We love it. We do appreciate each one of you, man. Y'all are family for sure. 100%. And, uh, hopefully 2025 coming up. I know we're not quite at the end of the year, but we're close.
So I got to say, I really hope that 2024 finished out in a banger year for you. Some of you have gone through some... traumatic things this year and some of you have gone through not so traumatic so uh hopefully 2025 is going to be a stellar year for you i hope i hope that you know you get your wishes everything that you want that you
get and uh maybe everything that you need you get maybe not necessarily everything you want but maybe at least everything you need uh hopefully that'll be took care of and just know that we're here for you pearl and i uh we love you we appreciate you and we do watch you and listen for you if you're on the facebook group page which is where we're at pretty much all the time right 24 7 yeah we're open anytime so if you ever need either one of us we're always there

page not the fan page there's a fan page out there that we've abandoned so that one we do not use anymore uh so don't worry about that when you go to the group page it is a private group and we do that because we try to keep out all the riffraff and try to keep it family and uh that's what we do so if you want to be part of that you just got to let us know
And send us the invite. You'll have to be, you know, send an invite, but private message Pearl or private message myself or say, Hey, you know, reach out to us and say, Hey, I'd love to be in the Facebook group and we'll get you over there. Okay. We just don't invite. and accept everybody because we don't
If we don't know you, we're not accepting unless we know you or you send us and let us know you listen to the show, then you're in, okay? And because half of them sometimes are bots. That's the only reason, listeners. And you might think we're being silly or we're being like over... protective and maybe we are to an extent but at the same time there is a lot of bots there are a little a lot of people that come in that want to divide and cause
uh friction and division and we're not about that we're about being there for each other and being family and we know like we see and we watch and we we we're almost like santa Pearl. Everybody's watching. We got our list. We watch. No, we don't. But we do watch. We know when you're liking and loving. And we know when you're commenting and when you're not. And I just want to say that.
If you haven't been posting or you're not doing a lot recently, start doing it again. Just get back into it, sharing your movies, doing whatever you want to do, and we're watching. We know what you're doing, and we love you. Yeah, we know when you're missing.
And we give you your space, but we're always here right when you come back. That's right. Sometimes it's that thing. Sometimes you need to just step back a little bit, and we totally understand. I mean, you know, if you're gone for a few months, we're going to be, hey, where are you at? Yep.
miss you it's not because we're like a dictatorship we miss you man we want to see people comment and loving each other so anyways we said that's a long way around the whole bout you know what i just thought of i'm probably on santa's naughty list probably I eat the cookies. I don't sleep. So that means he never came because I was always awake. That's why I never get my gift. I never got my gift. No. Yeah, I never got my million dollars. It's because Pearl stays up all the time.
And Santa is never able to drop that million dollar bill off. I can make a lot of bills. I love it. We're there for you guys and gals. Please, please know that. We love you. And if you're over on Twitter and over.
