Healthcare professionals currently don’t have the ability to monitor whether medical artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms are fair or not — a serious gap that could lead to AI exacerbating existing disparities and harming the most vulnerable patient populations. In this episode of Laborastories, host Dr. Octavia Peck Palmer talks with Dr. Mark Zaydman about this issue and about an Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (formerly AACC) competition that aims to encourage clinical labs to develop tools to meet this need.
