Episode description

In this episode, we tell the story of the 1980 Copa del Rey final, which was held at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu between Real Madrid's first team and Castilla, the Real Madrid B team. It was a unique situation, one that had never happened before and that has never happened since.

Setting the scene, Román de Arquer (@Aeroslavee) gives a brief history of Castilla. Alex Fitzpatrick (@Mallorcalex100) then explains how they got to the final, killing some giants along the way. Paco Polit (@pacopolitENG) explains how the match itself played out. Matt Clark (@MattClark_08) then discusses Castilla's qualification for the following season's Cup Winners' Cup and their tie against West Ham. And finally, host Euan McTear (@emctear) talks to Kristofer McCormack (@K_mc06) about B teams in general and their place in Spain's footballing pyramid.
