Oh, thanks so much for having me.
So, you know, you talk about, and look, I mean, my daughter, when she was little, not so much anymore, but when she was little, she would, she would see things. She would see things.
Yeah. Yeah. No, it's, it's been a big part of, you know, my story that, you know, ever since I was a little kid, I've, I've seen angels, demons, and other spiritual things and gonna need to go into the whole story here. But the short version is that, you know, from, from the age of, you know, zero to 12, I didn't really know that what I was experiencing was unusual. Exactly.
But, you know, yeah. And from, you know, for an hour and a I experienced, I experienced a lot of fear with it. I started seeing more frightening things. We were really afraid. It wasn't until I got into a new church environment.
Was more into a Christian family, but it wasn't until I got into a new church environment that I started learning about the prophetic and other gifts of the spirit. It was the first time I really had a context for the thing that the things that I was seeing. Ever since then, I've been trying to understand the things that I see the best that I can and, try to share them in a way that gives glory to God.
Would you, would you say, the time that we find ourselves living in, right now, has the veil thinned?
I think, know, whether it's, or maybe even be both these things, whether at the veil is thinning or the Lord is kind of raising awareness with, with more people. You know, I, I obviously felt, you know, pretty isolated when I was younger and wasn't running into a lot of other people at the same experience as me. After I put out my first book, over fifteen years ago, I, I was just shocked at the number of people that would message me that had a very similar childhood experience that we're still seeing in the spirit to this day as hundreds and thousands of people and have, you know, talked with tons and tons and tons of them. And so I definitely think we're, we're getting to a time where the Lord is highlighting this more where, you know, I think in some ways in our kind of modern culture, as the value for, scientific material, measurable things has, has gone up. It's kind of caused some of our, what I think are natural sort of, you know, spiritual senses to kind of atrophy a little bit.
I agree. And so I think that, you know, people are starting to hunger for this again and it's starting to wake up. And believe I that we're all built to be sensitive to the spirits. Just a lot of times we're not trained to do it, almost at all when we're young.
And here's something to think about, you know, we read in the biblical prophetic narrative, I. E. Our Bibles. And you know, we hear about virgin births, talking donkeys, acts as a float of water, men that walk on water, water that has changed in the wine, and on and on it goes. Prophecies, there's like hundreds and hundreds of prophecies in the Bible.
And yet we sit in the four walls of our churches and none of this happens at all, for the most part. Now, I'm painting it with a very broad brush none of it happens. We have, in my opinion, and I normally get jumped on about this, but think what you want, but in my opinion, we have today the modern Christian church in America. We have a form of religion, but we deny its power. And so let just tell you a quick story.
Okay? Please. There's a church that's close to where I live in the Santa Monica Mountains. I will not disparage them. God bless them.
I pray for favor over them and the pastor and the whole deal. A couple of weeks ago, there was a woman all tatted up sitting in the second row, full blown manifestation. She starts growling in the service and no one knows what to do with it. The pastor's up there going, Peace, peace, excuse me, excuse me. This thing that's in her is never going to find peace, It will have no peace.
It needs to be shut up and come out in the name of Jesus right now. But no one knew how to do that. Speak to that, please.
Yeah, certainly. You know, again, it's it's something that is just really part of part of our reality, you know, that there's, you know, I often like to sort of equate, the the presence of demonic entities to be somewhat similar to the the presence of germs, you know, that the enemy is always out there looking to steal, kill, and destroy. You know, I'm to of, painful experiences that we've had, ways that we, wrong lessons that we've learned and trying to build those into bigger and bigger and bigger problems. And a lot of times, you know, when you get people that have had a hard life, had a hard upbringing, mistreated one way or another, ways, they learn how to kind of partner with these, demonic ways of thinking. This bit by bit, little by little, they give over more and more of their authority to this demonic forces.
Oftentimes I'll, I'll see people with, you know, something demonic kind of hanging on them or chained to them even, or, kind of scratching at wounds that are, that are on them. And again, I'd like to equate it to germs because, you know, by, by default, especially for those of us who are filled with the spirit, just as in the same way that there are in fact, millions of germs, you know, all around us all the time. And most of the time, we don't need to worry about that because our immune system is fantastic at taking care of those things. For those of us who are, who are carrying God's spirit, you know, we have a natural spiritual immune system, if you will, that, that keeps us from those things. And so just as with germs, it's the exception to the norm.
It's the, a divergence from normal for us to be, suppressed or attacked by, by those things in a way that's meaningful. And of course we do experience it much as we, you know, all experience getting sick from time to time. And so, I always try to talk about the things that I say in a way that, focuses on what God's doing just because I think sometimes we can get tempted to put too much focus on demonic things, but it is an absolute possibility to kind of slowly go over authority to the point where the person just doesn't even know how to let go of that anymore.
Let me let me just, you know, jump jump in here. And this is controversial and I get that. There is a movement and we're not disparaging people can do it. Let me let me preface it by saying this. People can do whatever you want to do.
I'm going to love you. I don't care what you look like, what you're doing, it doesn't matter. If you're all tied up from head to toe, I could care less. I'm going love you as Christ loved the church. If you're transitioning from a man into a woman and you think that's a good thing to do, I'm still going to love you as Christ the best I possibly can.
That's what I'm called to do. I'm called to love you. Now if you ask me what I think about it, I'm going to tell you I wouldn't go there. And here's why. A person, a man doesn't wake up on a Monday morning and decide to get and start going through the whole transit.
That doesn't happen. It happens over a period of time. It's step by step by step by step. And it's just like with any sin, and I'm just using that as an example, and you know, it sin, it's going to raise eyebrows, but call it what you want. But the point I'm trying to make is this: you don't go from here to here instantly.
It's a step by step by step by step gradual process and you just spoke to that. And you know, the enemy is a master at this. It's like a nosiery on a bull and just leads you along and you go. Speak to that, please.
Yeah. It's, you know, I remember there was this one gentleman I taught at a, our school of ministry here at my home church, Beth Atlanta for many years. I remember there was this one gentleman, he was a student at our school and, on one of our outreaches. He had this moment where there's a little bit of tension about just organizing things and kinda all of a sudden came out with this big outburst. It wasn't anything horrible, but he, you know, he raised his voice and and got very obstinate.
It was kinda shocking and was outside his normal character. Right. So I was meeting with him afterwards and discussing that. And the whole time we're speaking, I can see this, demon sitting on his shoulder and it's kind of a, if you can imagine just sort of, covered in these layers of, kind of molten rock and lava has this kind of heat look to it. And every time I start kind of, you know, asking challenging questions, trying to get to the heart of the issue, I see this demon getting more and more flared up and just, you know, sitting on this man's shoulder kind of like a kind of like a parrot.
And, yeah, as we as we go into the conversation and, hear a little bit more about his story, I come to find that this man grew up in a home with a very abusive father. He would Joseph, it's always Joseph. Yeah. Yeah. He would he would yell.
He would shout. And, he always says a hard hard way to grow up. And, you know, as this this young as this man grew and came into his, teenage years, he started standing up to his father, but he would stand up to him by getting angry back and shouting back. And in that moment, he learned a a true, but not very helpful lesson that when I'm if I'm feeling powerless, anger can make me feel powerful, can make me feel like I kind of can take control back. And, you know, I I wasn't there when he was young, so I don't know if it was when he was little or when in his teen years or if it was bit by bit.
But this lesson would keep getting reinforced and reinforced as he had a boss that was, you know, unkind to, obviously, goes, you know, people would try to take advantage of him atheists. He'd run into other challenges. This, again, a fair solution to the problem, but not a, not a overall helpful solution to problem of when I'm angry, I can feel powerful. And so this sense slowly given authority over to this demonic entity that was reinforcing this hurt and this bad lesson. And so we were able to, you know, pray with him and work it out, do some deliverance there and also have him go through some counseling afterwards to work on the underlying issue of the pain that he experienced when he was younger and start to learn also some new ways of doing things, some different ways of getting power back onto this feeling.
And of course, to forgive his father.
As well, the horse.
I mean, that's the key. Forgiveness is always a key. You know, you talked about powers and principalities and I have come up against them twice. I've come up against a principality two times in forty five years of being a Christian. I don't want to ever experience that again. It was horrific. Let me tell you a story real quick. Yeah, please. So I'm in Fatima, Portugal. We're filming two films on Fatima.
I'm there for two weeks, my wife and I. And now we're in the North end in Porto, the city of Porto. Beautiful, right out of the car, just beautiful place. And I love Portugal. If I were gonna expat rabbit trail, I'd move to Portugal.
But I don't think Allure's got that in my cards at 75 years old. I'm here in the Santa Monica Mountains, not gonna go anywhere. So I'm there and it's like 03:00 in the morning and I awaken and the oppression is unlike anything I've ever experienced. And it's like a fire hose of pornography going through my head of every, I mean, and I don't, you know, I'm not, I don't watch porn. I never really have.
Okay. Ever since I've 40 five years, you know, just that's, that's not, that's not a problem for me. I know other people have a big problem with that, but it's like a pornographic fire hose and I can't shut it off. And I'm sitting there going the blood of Jesus, Jesus help me, Lord help me. I'm throwing everything I got at it and I'm not getting to first base.
I'm not getting any victory, nothing doodly squat. And I go, I'm out of here in the morning, Lord, I'm gone, I can't do this, find somebody else to make this stupid film, I don't care, I'm not doing this way above my pay grade. I feel the Holy Spirit tap me on the shoulder and go, trust the process at three in the morning. Excuse me. So why does He show me that?
First of all, it's a training ground to show me it's real. Second, to introduce me to what a principality looks like. And this isn't your normal run of the mill. And remember, and I'll let you answer this. When the angel goes up against the prince of Persia, he can't get through, can he?
He's got to go back and get Mike and the guys, and then they fight their way through. So here I am, I'm basically Omar Fudd in Fatima, you know, in Portugal and I'm on the mat tapping out, but it's not letting up. So the end of the story is this: the next morning I wake up, my first interview for the film is with a philosopher and a historian, and I stop at cameras and I go, let me ask you something. What was here before the Romans came? Before the Greeks, the Romans, the Christian, what was here in Antiquity?
Oh, the goddess Mora, and she's still here. And there are serpent cults in the North End Of Portugal, which is where I was, right? Which had been there for thousands and thousands of years. And she would appear as a beautiful woman, seduce the men, there's the pornography, right? Seduce the men and then after she had her way with them, she would turn into a huge serpent and eat them. So it's just like, I just go, oh my gosh, speak to that. Speak to that, break.
Yeah. So, you know, lot of this, this new book really is about how, how principalities operate in the modern age. And of course, this is a subject I could write, you know, five or six books on. I'm mainly, you know, speaking to more, you know, I'm just kind of trying to set some principles so that people can under understand it. But, you know, in my definition, you know, principalities are regional demonic powers that are trying to influence a given area, a culture with, you know, whatever facet of the kingdom of darkness that they're trying to, to inundate.
And, you know, I, this is one of the stories from, from the book, but I remember I was, as I was preparing some things for this, for this book, I was trying to do a little bit of a study on what's what happens in the spirit when people are, you know, sitting and scrolling through social media. And I do a fair amount, a fair amount of, traveling, speaking engagements, things like that. So I'm in airports for pretty frequently and, I was sitting in the airport and of course, you know, nowadays there's half of everyone sitting down on their phones, scrolling through a week, whatever. And, you know, I've, I've, in previous books, I've talked a little bit about what happens in the spirit when we're watching movies, when we're listening to music or being influenced by media of any kind. And it's interesting to use a fire hose as a, as an example because I, I have often said that, you know, music, movies, or any kind of media influences you, I can, you know, see it kind of moving towards people and it's kind of like food, you know, that it it it can influence for good, for bad, and maybe a little bit of a of something like a like a cake or something sugary is not necessarily horrible, but if that becomes your whole diet, that's gonna cause problems.
And, you know, if if media is like a diet, then social media is kind of like a a buffet coming out of a fire hose at, you know, twenty four hours a day that, as I watch, it builds up spiritual structure around people, sometimes in minutes, sometimes just in the time that I'm sitting there watching them. And I was sitting in this airport, and I just was looking around a few different people. And I saw this one gentleman, first of all, who was watching. Again, I'm not gonna mention the show just for now, but it's a it's a popular kind of male oriented, podcast. And as he was watching this this, show, this this podcast show, I saw this statue being built up on his shoulders and it was sort of like an exaggeration of the, of the male figure.
It almost looked like a, maybe how he, this guy who, you know, looked kinda like a normal middle aged sort of guy, what he would hope that he would look like, you know, very, you know, square jaw, big muscles and, you know, big and big and tall. I was getting bigger and bigger. I thought, well, yeah, that's not necessarily inherently a bad thing necessarily. But as his, wife came by and I guess she'd been, you know, off shopping or something, she she came by and they sort of started getting through an argument. I wasn't close enough to hear what it was about, but I saw that as he was kind of feeling put upon by her, her arguing, he, this statue started hunching over the woman and at, you know, posturing himself very aggressively and was taking greater offense to, to what she was saying.
And so how this picture of what masculinity is supposed to be maybe had some positive effects that it was, proposing, but also had these negative effects. I looked around and I kept seeing all these other, you know, examples of as all these different structures that were being built up around people as they were watching different forms of social media. I was getting kind of overwhelmed by it I was seeing so much of it and there was, know, so many people doing that. So I kind of raised my my eyes and was looking above everyone. As soon as I did, I saw, in the in the sky above us, this, two great big sets of hands and And they were kind of held out like this at the end of each was dozens of strings.
And all of the strings were tied to all of these structures and figures that were around people kind of pulling them, twisting them, adjusting them, you know, adjusting, adjusting the formation of these structures. And I saw a head behind these, these hands that was covered by a dark blue hood. And, but I could feel just this really heavy kind of sinister sort of feeling. And I just asked the Holy Spirit, what is that? And I just heard him say this, this principality is called certainty.
And it's the, the desire to feel right or to be right or to have your, your ideas verified and validated. And again, I don't enough time to give all the examples, but as I was looking around, I was seeing, you know, that, that show that person had chosen to watch them. Not that it's a bad show per se, but it was reinforcing his rightness and his idea and his picture and his value system, making it easier for him to be offended at at his wife in that particular moment. And so one major principality of this age that is, powerfully reinforced by social media is this principality of certainty. You know, any idea, any thought, any belief that you have, you can hop online in five seconds and find 20 people who will confidently, reaffirm and say that you're exactly right.
And, and we can get addicted to that feeling of, of certainty. And one of the things I felt challenged by, by the Lord in that moment is that in, in some ways, certainty is act certainty is actually antagonistic with faith because, faith is not certainty. It's a thing of its own. It's the substance of what they hope for. It's the evidence of that is not seen.
And and so the way, in many ways, counteract that is to, again, sort of operate in the fear of the Lord and say, I I have faith in you, Lord. I have faith that what I'm doing is right, but I'm also subject to You. And if there's something if there's a wicked way in me, if there's something I'm not seeing right, this certainty would actually prevent me from receiving feedback from you, Lord. And that conviction of the Holy Spirit that would make me not even necessarily change my thinking, but just make those fine adjustments that have a profound effect on the way I actually think and act.
You know, we are living in unprecedented times and I know you know this. I mean, you just, and what a gift to be able to, I'm not sure I would want that gift. I, you know, right. Be careful what you ask for. I mean, I have my own stuff that the Lord does with me and, you know, he's leading and that's all good.
But you know, we live in a time and I've, I've talked about this, you go to the airports and this is all you see somebody and no, no one's talking. Very few people read, very few people, I would say less than 10% people at the airport reading anything. And so this is the world we're living in, which is unprecedented information is we never had this go back one hundred and twenty five years. You'd have to go to a library and order a book. Even when I started researching and I'm probably old enough to be your father, maybe grandfather, I don't know.
I just turned 75 a couple of days ago. So, I mean, I've watched all of this progress, but when I first started researching, I'd have to go to the library and I'd look at the index and I'd order the book and two weeks later it would come in and I'd check it out and I could have it for a week or ten days or whatever. And I have to return it give it. That's how you did research back there. Today, forget about it.
It's at the scene of their life, Google and now with AI. My question is this, in your opinion, are we headed to a climax? I haven't read the book, but do you talk about this, that we're headed towards some sort of a peak, a climax?
Yeah, I am. I definitely allude to that and I, I don't personally feel like I have a direct revelation of it. I mean, that's going to look like X, that's going to look like Y. You know, especially with, you know, if you just take, I, I just turned, 40 recently and so I was kind of here for the whole birth of the internet and the, the be, the beginnings of it to where it is now. And so we hit different stages with with AI, this capacity to, have all the knowledge, all the information, you know, it is, in many ways, I see the the beginning of some kind of apex of, and again, this is what a lot of what the book is about is that, that original, that original divergence from, from, God's nature for us to choose to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil is, it's a, it's a rejection of, God used to decide what's good and evil.
I want to decide what's good and evil for myself. At many ways is the central struggle of, of humanity is we want to build our own idea. We want to do our own kind of righteousness, even, I think unhealthy religion is the very same thing as I want to even follow God in my own way. And, you know, I've got to follow my terms and, and what, what my values are. And so I can, I can definitely feel that building?
The main point of the book in many ways for me is really to, to call people to, to arms in a rebellion against the knowledge of good and evil of engaging in the fear of the Lord, living in the revelation that he's God and I'm not, and, submitting ourselves to the discipleship of Jesus that that we're actually meant to learn from, grow to look more like him, be challenged by him to, to as and because really, you know, so frequently and just as you experience, many people have these kinds of experiences, when you see, principalities, when you even if you don't see them in a vision or or even as you experienced, some some, you know, imposing thoughts and this feeling of oppression, even just when you understand the principle and look at what's going on in the world or this circumstance, that circumstance, you know, pick your, pick your, picture. The scale of it can be so overwhelming that the idea of having any kind of impact can feel, can feel overwhelming. But to me, it's if I take responsibility to pursue my own transformation, to, to allow myself to be made more into His image every day, to have my mind renewed every day.
And that is, that is that power is in my hands every moment of every day to make that choice. And the more that I become transformed, the more I can speak from a transformed life, I can invite others to do the same. Then I can also see more accurately the places in which I'm meant to contribute to doing the opposite of us building our own kingdom on the earth, of us perpetuating God's kingdom on the earth, building things after His likeness rather than our own.
