All right, good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome. Here is a time now for our community connection. Right here on K one, the one that you trust. We have tiny Peach. He's in here from the Washington County SPCA. And how are you doing on this kind of a warm little day today. I'm doing really well, holding up despite the heat. How the animals are doing, Um, they're
they're hot as well. We have over two hundred and sixty four right now in our care that we're responsible for, and so we're doing our best to keep them all cool, changing out their water and making sure they're as cool as computers temperatures. Now, we're looking for some homes for a lot of these pets that you have your sheltering right now, and you're getting a little bit of help, which is great. Tell us about that. Yeah,
So on July six, next week, we start Empty the Shelters. So Empty the Shelters is a sponsored event from the Bissel Pet Foundation and so they help give money to us so that we could reduce the adoption fees and not lose so much of our cost on that. So we will have a fun event for the whole month. So it's July sixth through the thirty first,
and our most expensive adoption will only be thirty dollars. And so you have a wheel that you could spend, so you could get a free adoption or a ten dollars adoption, but you'll spend the wheel, but the most you'll pay is thirty dollars for an adoption, which is a great deal. All of our pets come vaccinated with their current vaccines. We test the dogs for heartworms and we tested the cats for five and FeLV They all get spayed and neutered, and they all get a microchip so when you get them, they
have the works done to them. So it's it's a really great deal and they're all ready to go home. Well, this is great. This is great. So if you've been kind of on the fence whether or not you should get a pat, this lot to drive that that that decision just a little bit. When you could take the pet home for just thirty dollars, that is amazing. Yeah, it's a really great deal. We've really experienced an increase in intakes post pandemic, and so it's just like it's the worst
it's been probably and about five years. Oh my, yes, so during COVID, a lot of people didn't have access to low cost span neuter clinics, so to speak. A lot of the vets we're only doing emergency care during that time, so a lot of we've noticed a lot of increase in puppies and kittens this year because of the animals not being fixed. So if you're not aware of, Bartlesville does have a city ordinance, so your pet does have to be fixed, spare, neutered, and you also should have
a city license. It could be in the form of a tag from the City of Bartlesville, or it could be in the form of a microchip that's registered with us and you can get that at the shelter. Well, this is amazing. Where are you located so folks can kind of get that little GPS thing going. Yeah, so we are located on Highway one twenty three between Bartlesville and Dewey. Yes, the bridge actually had a huge effect on people coming out to see us. I've been then. Yeah, so we
are so glad that it's open. Please take that route and come see us. The animals really need homes. We have been full for the better part of a year. A lot of times in the winter, we get a little lull where it starts to taper off and we have less animals in our care, which is great for us. We can do some deep cleaning and get some housekeeping done during that time. And it just really hasn't happened for
us, especially on the dogs. In the past, we've been able to transport dogs to other states with stricter Spain neuter laws and that had lower populations of dogs, like big cities like Chicago, Denver, and unfortunately, nationwide, all shelters are seeing that they're full. So these other shelters that were able to take from us in the past are full as well and cannot make
them so we are not able to keep moving the animals out. Two years ago, our average length to stay for a dog would have been twenty five days, and now it's over ninety. Oh so yeah, so the animals are not only coming in, but they're staying longer. So the longer we keep them, the more expensive their care is because we do give them flee and check preventative and heartwarm preventative every month, so it's pretty costly and there's just no space. Oh my goodness sakes, well, this has got to
come in handy. It's called empty the shelter, and it's a July sixth to the thirty first, So basically, I mean, yeah, the month of July after the holiday, you get a day to kind of do day or two to kind of get ready and then go out there and grab your pat Yes, and I'm glad you brought up the holiday because the fourth of July is when most shelters see their largest intake because dogs and cats are usually scared of the fireworks and the noise. You're run away, Yes, they
do. So we encourage people to make sure one that your pet has a collar with an ID tag. It's a microchip. Your microchip is up to date. If you have adopted an animal from the spc A in the past, you could call the shelter will update your phone number in our system if for some reason, your animal comes in. And what's really great, here's our animal control officers have microchip scanners and their vehicles so they don't try to
bring animals to the shelter. They know that we're full. So if your dogs microchip, they do their best to get your pet home to you, right right, yeah, but I mean you know, please please please you know, it is hot to keep your animals inside during this holiday weekend, So even if they don't normally run off, they might be tempted during the fireworks if they get scared. So, yeah, they do, they might. I had a little fella. He's a sense passed way, but a
little Max. He was a half Chihuahua half black lab. Mama was tired after she delivered to the boys. I bet yeah. Anyway, Max bark back at the at the fireworks, like you just knocked that off. He was a little defiant guy. But most dogs aren't that way. They don't know what's going on. I don't think Max did either. He just didn't like it. But instead of you know, doing something like that, they just get frightened out of their wits. They just do. Cats do the
same thing. I mean they're looking for shelter. Yeah, they just run and hide. There are many tools that you can use. Call your bets office and maybe get some um, you know, medicine, or you could get a thunder jacket. That's what I was thinking of. I was racing in my mind the thunder jackets. Thundershirts. Do those really work? Really? Call? I mean, it really depends on the animal. But yeah, it can be really calming to some of the animals. Good, It
just depends on the animals. Oh yeah, I guess. So now you're gonna be not only having the empty the Shelter event the month of July, for the most of the month of July, I should say, but you're gonna be taking this show on the road. Yes, we have several adoption of it's planned coming up. We will be at the Washington County Free Fair
in September where all we are so look for us out there. We'll have some adoptable animals and a booth set up so we always have information with this on our low cost Spain Edder vouchers, So if you are needing assistance getting your pet fixed but can't really afford the normal visit, we do offer that voucher for income qualified individuals height And you're going to be at the hundred Mile
Garage sale too. Yes, well, I mean, if you don't know, we do have property south of town, the ten acres on like right past Tractor Supply going towards Tulsa, So we're there on Washington Boulevard, and that is where our plans for the new shelter will be so we are renting out booth space. So if you're looking for a booth space and the donation for the booth space goes towards the animals, you could put it out at
the clinic building and that's three four two three South Washington Boulevard. Just call the shelter. We'll set that up with you. But we will also have adoptable dogs there. So we're hoping that people will stop during their route for the hundred Mile gar Sale because we're in a really good location there you are, and then if you don't want to stop it, you want to set up a booth, we'll help you out with that too. We're gonna take
a quick break and we'll come back. We're gonna talk about some cool little fundraisers you've got coming up too. We are talking with Tiny Pete and she's with Washington County SPCA. We'll have Born after these words from our sponsors, Born DeCamp Funeral Home and hog Grassboaters. Free needs are completely transferable in the United States from funeral home to funeral home, and in Oklahoma that's especially true
without any penalty at all. For instance, if you decide you're going to retire and move to another state, and you find a funeral home that you're comfortable with elsewhere, you can take that already set up free need that you have at funeral home A and transfer it to funeral home being there's no problem doing that. Tim Howell Arnold Moore and DeCamp Funeral Home. Sixty seventy years
ago, Bob Farmer died. Joe business owner now Joe Biness owner, hung a sign that said close for the funeral of Bob Farmer back at three pm. Hung it on his door, closed his door. No one would steal that sign. He would go to the funeral, as with many of Bob's friends. Now, if you're a grandson, you have to have proof that grandpa died so you can get paid for that day of leave. I've said it a hundred times. Death is an inconvenience to twenty first century America.
But it's not at Arnold Moore and knee Camp Funeral Hall. It'll be all right. We'll walk through this together. Arnold Moore and knee Camp Funeral Home. Seven ten Dewey Bartle's event. We'll walk through this together. Is it time to start thinking about a new car? But the thought of dealing with the large dealerships is just too intimidating, too confusing. There is an easier way, tall Grass Motors. Tall Grass Motors doesn't play all the confusing games
a large dealerships play. Tall Grass Motors has continually been voted Bartlesville's best used car dealer year after year. Good Bye tall Grass Motors today and joy looking at over sixty used cars, trucks and SUVs, all prized to save you money. Tall Grass Motors Highway seventy five North in Bartlesville. All right, K one News timing is now eight forty five. We're talking with Tanya pee
Cheese with the Washington County SPCA. We've talked about the Empty of the Shelters event that's coming up on July sixth through the thirty first, also one hundred mile garage sale, and also being out there watching County Freefair. Boy. You need a vacation, don't you. Well, I'll tell you what though. We've got a couple of really neat fundraisers coming up. Tell us about this pancake breakfast. So the Elks Elks Lodge is very generous. They are
to throw a pancake breakfast. So we are having a pancake breakfast on October fourteenth at the Elks Lodge, and so it's from eight thirty to eleven, I believe, and we will have adoptable animals there. Everywhere we go, we're trying to have the adoptable animals. You know, come for breakfast. It's a win win. It's all you can eat breakfast. It's ten dollars, So please come out and support that. Huh, that is great. Of course that's out there by Walmart right, Yes, that is correct.
Beautiful building you have out there too, and you have a Bingo Evan coming up. Yeah. So this is our annual Bingo Bash. This will be our third year having this, so at the Community Center on November third. It's a Friday night, so you know, come out and see us place in Bingo. We have some cash prizes and it'll be a fun event.
It's always a good time. Man. This is great. So for the folks you heard it say the empty the shelters a bit, I know they just might have caught that if they just got the car and or got near the radio. Let's kind of back that up a little bit here. It starts on July six, goes through the thirty first and tell us the big deal on this. We want to empty the shelter first of all, we do, I mean to have some space and the kennels, but um, a lot of our dogs aren't you know, doubled up in space. Uh
and the kennels because we're just so out of room. But yes, we are always looking for fosters and volunteers to help us. But the main thing we need to do is find these animals home. So the most you will pay for an adoption during the month of July is thirty and it could be less. You know, we have a we have a spinning wheel, so you'll come out spind the wheel. We also have a kissing booth they we're gonna have set up during that month, so you know, you could kiss
a dog and leave a donation. And our kissing booth it's a fun place to take pictures with the animals. So I mean, just come out if you're not sure. You know, we also have cats available for adoption at Petco here in town. The Petco is our great partner and they always honor
our empty the shelter prices for those events. Nice, yes, so good to have friends, don you yes, So if you can't make it to the shelter, you know, at least go look at our cats at Petco here in town, all right, and how can we find you on the worldwide webs So our website is WCSPCA dot org. So and we also have a Facebook, Instagram and TikTok accounts, so you please follow us on our
social media. You might get to see some really cute animals we have basically right now, if you say a breed age size, we probably have an advent before right now, you might want to change that to adorable dot com. I don't know, father adorable, Yes, yes, and you can see all of our adoptable animals on the website. Now. If you do happen to lose your animal during the fourth of July on the same website on our lost and Found page, you're the animals do show up on the lost
and Found page in our system. We also encourage people to check the Bartlesville Lost and Found Pets page post animals there, and then you could also register your pet. It's free from the pet Co Love Foundation. They have pet Co Love Lost and you take a picture and it's GPS recognized just like a human and you register your pet and if one comes in and we log it in our system and take a picture and it matches. They also call tact
the owner and it's one hundred percent free. So there's just so many resources to get your animal back home. You just have to utilize them, all right. Hey, Tony, thank for being with us. Yeah, thanks for having anything I missed if there is, please stop me now. Well, well, our annual campaign is in August, so you know that it is a hard time for people with back to school, but it is our time of year where we have the most amount of intakes in the summer and
we have the least amount of donations. People are busy, so that is when we're really hurting right now, you know. Are the cost of our medicines, vaccines and Spain neuter expensive has gone through the roof since COVID so and so we could always use help with that. So if you want to do a supply drive paper towels, we need those. So oh yes, indeed, hey, thank you very much. What's the phone number once again, folks you don't like the computer, It's nine eight three five seven seven.
All right, thank you, Tony, appreciate it. Thank you. You've been listening to our community connection on K one
