Five five ninety Bible and good morning, good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome. It is time now for our community connection right here on K one, the one you trust. It's a sunny day and I'm thinking Sons sun Fest. There we go, Carry, Carrol, wat and Charles. How are you guys doing here today? Done right? Get up on the microphone there so I know you got a loud Oh he's plenty loud. I guess Carry, You're gonna do the talking today.
So what you got up your sleeve? Carry? Oh? What would you like to know? We've had another great SunFest plan? I bet you do your due. What would you like to know about it? Well, first of all, I know it's the first weekend in June. It always is, correct. How we got to kick off on Friday Friday night? We are kicking off with some TC love on the main stage, the high Dramatics, the Red Bet Bandits, and for the kids, we've got some
the Youth Fest coming and what's desk Hits. Then we've got the original Goonies movie showing. Oh well, that's like starting it off with a bang exactly. I know we're gonna be there. We usually broadcast live there in the afternoon, kind of build the excitement up for a little bit, and then all of a sudden, the Russias on for everybody to get a corn dog or whatever it is that they like, because we have so many concession airs there, and then they just hit everything all at once. They do the
funnel cake. The smell of the funnel cake there, Oh my goodness sakes, and now I had to put on three pounds. But we're gonna have all kinds of different activities throughout the course of the week. Now, Saturday is a really big day. Saturday is always a big day. We've got a lot going on on Saturday. We've got i mean both the band shell
and the main stage. You're filled with wonderful entertainment. We've got Kevin Knowles coming on the main stage, Stacy and the geriatrics yourself included two thirty something like that. Right, Well, you know, my agent told me to be there early, so we have Anjeanette. You have a lot let it ride. Yeah, a lot of fun. Right and Chase Wilson will in Saturday night for the main stage for us the band Hill. On Saturday,
We've got three different exercise groups coming. We've got Pound, We've got Zoombat, tai Chi, everytt music's coming in. Dan's gonna come play. We've got the high school band. I think it's gonna come fill in a little bit for us in another nighttime movie of Hotel Transylvania three Summer Vacation. I like that. I like that. And we haven't even touched on we have for bringing back glow Fest this year. Okay, well you tell us about glow Fest. You can do that. Carrie. You kind of came up
with this idea, didn't I know. I did not come up with this idea. Oh I've got a bet money that you did know. It wasn't me. It was a couple of ladies who are no longer on our committee, okay, and they actually came up with the idea. And this is our third year to do it. It's been a lot of fun. It's it's glow paint, black life music, pounding on drums and getting messy and having a great time in the dark. It's a lot of fun. It's a lot of fun. He just know you're gonna get dirty, so you
have paint everywhere that you never thought possible. It's a lot of fun. So between that going on, before we get into Sunday's festivities, we've got we've got the arts and crafts and all kinds of different artisans there. We have over one hundred and ten tables of arts and crafts this year, so you know that's normally we run about sixty or seventy, so we have a lot. Now. I remember once we had a car show. We're having a car show. Absolutely, we're having a car show. Well, hot
dog, that's all three days, isn't it. Yeah. The car show will actually be over closer to the old the old Madison parking lot, okay, where we're gonna stage it. We were the Fertil School District has been very kind to let us use that old Madison parking lot last year and this year for the car shows stuff. I think it's gonna be a lot of fun. We've got Chowder Box who's going to help with food up there and so that you don't have to worry about. And they'll come back down at
the festival of course, but some people just aren't festival people unfortunately. I understand. You got to meet him where they are, got to meet him where they are. Still want to make sure that the people at the car Shill have the same kind of fun experience, even though they might not be right in the festival, but they're still part of it. They're still part of it yet. Oh yeah, we're even going to have a car simulator this year. Yes, really, yeah, Charles will that one. But
I was just so. I was approached by a local group that has a some form of car simulator. I've seen pictures of it. I'm looking forward to seeing it in life. But you actually get part of the thrill of driving a car, a race car or something like that. It'll be down there, so I and the highlight is the price of it. We're paying for it, you're not, Oh well, okay, it's like everything else at SunFest. The vision is for you to come out and have a good
time and it doesn't costing thing unless you want to buy. It's something to eat or go with you or take or take something home. You know. The ponies and ponies are our our donation from from DSR. So the ponies are free. This is free. Most of our activities are set up to be free by local sponsors. Wow, you guys got a maid. I like that. You know, this is one of the car shows. It's
free to come through because it's actually sponsored by Patriot Auto Group. Nice Now, Carrie, we got a way big Sunday and yeah, because it seems like Sunday it's really kind of special for a lot of people. It is. We have a lot of churches that like to come out and um be a part of SunFest. Now we've kind of gone from having all rock and roll or country music to getting in letting the different you know, different churches come in and share with us, you know a little bit of what they
like to do. That is way cool. I mean, I hear nothing but great things about that. That's years our for sure to try it, and we had a lot of success from it. A lot of people thought, oh, you're not gonna get anybody there on Sunday, but that was totally wrong. I think we filled the park even more on Sunday than we
have in the past. Well, that's great. I think you're off to something which is really good, which our vision is to actually be the community and churches are a part of the community, so we're inviting as much of the community itself. When you look at our bands, most of our bands are local bands because we want to highlight Bardsville in our surrounding areas because you
know that's what we support, and that too supports us. I want to point out one of the local guys that you're going to be having on there. Your name is Kevin Knowles. You had him last year, and Kevin does a form of smooth jazz. He plays an awful lot at a restaurant here. I'm not going to give him up plug because I can't remember, but otherwise I would. But this guy has created I think maybe twelve albums
already. He produces him himself. His son is now starting to help him with the recording and everything, but he plays all these instruments by himself. You'll see him playing the keyboard and the electric guitar at the same time, and he's just an awesome musician. So I really would like to invite you out to see Kevin and maybe stay around for me there. Yeah. I set the bar kind of low for the next accident. They can really achieve all new heights, but it'll be a lot of fun. I think it's
gonna be a lot of fun this year. Oh indeed, and the price is right. Oh and of course we're looking for just probably the all of your friends and neighbors are gonna be. I was surprised first of all when we first moved here one how big Sooner Park really is once you start walking in and too just how much stuff you can fit in Sooner Park and still can't fill it. But my god, it you will see all your friends, you will see Emily, you will see neighbors, You'll see people maybe
you haven't seen for a while from other towns. Because I know folks from Caney, folks from up there in Independence, they all come down here too. And then we get folks from the southern part of the county, pa Huska folks, Barnstall folks, know a lot of folks all over here. So we really capture are part of the state really well. And thank you. And I know Maria Gus is going yes, yes, Maria, yeah,
yeah, yeah. And she's been helping you too, hasn't she Absolutely yeah, Maria, And you know they're a supporter, and she's also logistical supporter where she gets this information, which is really important for us. You need to know where everybody's going absolutely, where they coming from, where to send them and everything else like that. Carrie, how long you've been with the group. I think I've been here about eight years now, all right,
eight Charles, how long you've been I don't know. We were originally signed up with my boy, Scott Troop to do to do groundskeeping. I'm gonna say ten to twelve, fifteen years ago. It's been a long time. It was hung around. Uh well, you know, when everybody else retired, we decided, hey, this sounds like fun, so I took a promotion. If that's the word we want to use. Yeah, but
it's a lot of fun. We love we love SunFest. We love going out and seeing all the people because, like she said, when when you're out there on the sidewalk off sudden you see somebody you graduated with forty years ago, when oh you know, it's it's fun. Oh it is. It's kind of like a homecoming thing. Yeah, the biggest outdoor picnic in
bartlet Fills. We got part of the state. As a matter of fact, now, Carrie, we touched on something lightly with the kids stuff, because we have things that are geared primarily for kids, and I think you will see a lot of kids out there. I will see a lot of kids out there. Youth Fest is totally free for our kids to come out with our arts and crafts for the kids to do. We're gonna do some scort gun painting. We're gonna make frisbees out of paper plates, all kinds
of yard games. We decided to kind of go back to your basics of your picnicky type games. Giant jingis some yard dice games, uh different, all these kinds of fun. You name it to, you name it, it's gonna be there. Yep. And then one of our most popular events for youth Fest is our phone Party. Everybody wants the foam party. Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles, and we are going to do bubbles at least twice on Saturday and once on Sunday. I must have missed that.
It is a lot of fun that we have a great bubble making machine that just can make the bubbles come and the kids love it is a lot of fun. Yeah. The picture on the billboard was actually from one of our events where we had the bubble machine run of the phone machine runs. Oh my gosh, it is. It's fun to play with. It is fun to play. I mean the adults get in there too, so it's a lot of fun. Well, everybody's a kid at sun Fest, that's
right. So for me, ILL like going out there because I love the kids and working in elementary education, I get to see my kids from school who I might not have seen in a couple of weeks. So it's it's kind of fun for me to be out there and to see all the different kids. Oh that is that is really a nice little treat. And are the aerialists coming back this year? Not? Ye okay, that's all one year. But this year for dog entertainment, we actually have Barzell Police.
There's good and bring their dogs out and so off what they get to do. Now, I understand that that's pretty cool. I understand from the kids who've seen that from different schools. It's it's aces, that's top that's top light stuff. Yeah. They actually Barzel Police approached us about could we come out and have a booth. I'm like, it's your park. But they're they're great to work with, you know, the whole city Barsville is such a great supporter a SunFest. But because they give us a lot to make
it happen. You know, they only loan us apart, but they loan us a lot of other things to make the make the festival happen. So city Barsel is a great supporter. Well, you know this supports they at Barnlesville in return. I guess Maria might know that she's got that little people counter thing going on there. I don't know how that works, that science
stuff, it's just all science. But anyway, the thing is this brings in so many people into our community, and the economic impact for a free event like this pays big dividends because a lot of people staying in hotels, people are gonna eat at restaurants, They're gonna buy something when they're here in town. They're definitely gonna buy some gasoline to get back home exactly. So you know, it works out pretty good. I think you guys had a
great plan forty years ago. It wasn't nice, but somebody did. It's just been passed on from committee to committee and it's it's our turn. All right. Well, I tell you why do you guys make it so family friendly? And it just feels so comfortable. It's like an old shoe. You're like going, Ah, it's SunFest. It's about time to kick back, relax and just have a lot of fun. I want to thank you for being here with us today. Appreciate you, Oh absolutely, Oh,
I tell you anytime. The door is always open, as we say around here, You've been listening to our
