Good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome. It is time now for our community connection right here on Kay one, the one you trust. Love you, miss Christin Kurrent. How are you doing today? I am doing great. Thank you so much for having me. Oh my goodness. It's always great to have you in because you're always going to bring in something fun, something a little bit unusual or unique,
and it's always for a great cause. And of course we're you're talking about Samaritan Counseling and Growth Center and some innovative ways to help keep things rolling the way they need to be for people who really need to help. Yes, so what do you have this time? You've been cooking up something, haven't you. Yeah, So we have our spring fundraising event. It is the second annual Cornhole for a Cause. Uh huh. So this is our second
year. We used to have the large breakfast every year after about twenty years. We switched it up last year to a cornhole tournament. So that went great last year and we're going to do it again this year. Now where we where are we going to be corn holding? It will be at Cooper and Mill and Cooper and Mill. All right, we all know where that is right downtown on Second Street? Yes, yeh, second, what's the crossroad there? It's right across the street from Franken Lowland. Yeah, okay,
Cooper and Mill. Cooper and Mill, downtown And it will be on Saturday, March second, at two pm. Alright, March second to two. So you got two and two. I like that, remember, especially for an aging fellow like me. All right, this is going to be a lot of fun. Is this teams or is this individuals or do you have to get signed up by a certain time? I don't know how does it work? So it is teams of two. So it is one hundred dollars for a team of two, and you can sign up through our event
website and I know you'll post the link to that. You can also sign up on the Scoreholo app. So those that are really into cornhole, there is an app for cornhole tournaments that you can find. You can locate us on there and sign up that way as well. So teams of two and it will be a round robin, double elimination style cornhole tournament. You know,
when I was living for they called it bags. Yes, I've heard that something like that, And then I moved to Florida, down to the University of Florida, Gainesville, you know, lived there for about ten years and the cornhole and it's been cornhole back in Iowa, we have been cornhole over here. I think they just forgot about that bag thing all together. And ESPN during COVID that was the big sport. The people were glued to the TV watching that. It's gotten big. So last year it was pretty
great. We had people that traveled in for it and good and all over Kansas. Some young kids that it took first place last year, So we'll see if they're back. They were fun to watch last year, so they were and you know, it's a great way to pass the afternoon. It's a great way to have fund Nobody gets hurt. You can't put an eye out playing court Hall, right, and on top of that, it is for a great cause. It is when we talk about Samaritan Counseling and Growth
Center. We're right here in Bartlesville, but we serve anybody who needs help within the region, don't we Right, Yes, this is actually our fiftieth year to be in business in Bartlesville, so it's a it's a big milestone
for us. This year, and we hope to have many more. This fundraiser is unique for us though you know, our our fall fundraiser goes to our general operating This one is actually a portion of the proceeds goes towards our Safe Subsidy, So that is for individuals children, women and males, anyone that has been sexually or physically abused. So our Safe Subsidy helps subsidize those costs for individuals that cannot otherwise afford counseling. Wow, that's amazing, it
really is. You know, I got to tell you you got a great resource here, and it's right over there by Sooner Park, Yes, right across from Center Park scenery. You can't, is it. But the thing is, it's the amount of care that people are getting and the quality of care which is really unsurpassed in the area. And it's one of those resources we've got to keep going. We like you said, it's been fifty years. Let's have some fun down at Cooper Mill on March second, and let's
make sure that we go another fifty Now. You were guys were one of the first to do this. Tellalth Telehealth, because here we are, we've got people during the middle of a pandemic. Nobody really knows, you know,
anything about it. They still really don't. But folks were very, very afraid to be out and this really helped people cope with that and everything else that they may have been, you know, trying to handle at the same time on top of another right and thinking mental health right, I mean, that is something that is very much needed as counseling through this time.
So we that is something that we kicked off during COVID and we're continuing to do in some instances today because somethings just can't get out right, and sometimes it's the physical thing, and it's just great to have and it's great to be on the cutting edge or something so cool. Now you speaking of that. Last time you were here, you were with another young lady of one
of the therapists. Yes, and you've got something that's going on still through March, right, Yes, Can you tell us a little bit about that refreshes a little sure? Yes, So we do neuro feedback services. We are the only center in the area that provides nuro feedback. So we have a special deal right now that it takes off almost five hundred dollars from the
cost so and it goes through March. So if that's something that anybody has been thinking about, I've heard of that it might be something that I want to do. Now would be the time to kick start that. We recommend about thirty sessions to see with the therapist and it really turns around. You know, people have come off medications and things like that, so really geared
towards you know, it helps break behaviors to start new good ones. Right, so ADHD, anxiety depression, things like that, it rein to go down the lane. Yep, yep. Don't we all need that? You know, I'm not a doctor and I don't pretend to be one. But when she explained it here that last time, that that's what it's up with me was the simplicity of it is that you know, yeah, there's a lot of things that you got to be a you know, brain need to
do. But the easiest way to explain it is that it just helps you find a different clear lane for your brain to operate. Yes, absolutely, that is wonderful again't cut it so? So, yes, so through through March is a special deal. So now at Cooper and Mill they got that thing, they got that big room in the back. This is where we're going to have this, Yes, so it will be in the back.
We'll have a tournament going on. We'll have a little practice play at the beginning and then we'll kick off the tournament double elimination and should have I think about four sets of boards, so eight teams at a time, and we'll have a practice board outside. Hopefully it'll be nice weather again this year, and so that way people can practice outside. We'll also have a food truck, so shorties will have a food truck there, so stop just spoiling me
anybody that's hungry. And then of course drinks at Cooper and Mill and well you had to be hungry. We just have to pretend to be hungry shorts. Is that good, right? And and we'll have raffles as well, so a little bit if you don't play Cornhall, you want to just come out and watch for taking the raffles and food and drinks and just hang out. We'd love that too. Well, there's going to be a lot of people. You guys had a houseful last year, Yes, it was,
it was fun. We'll have we'll have a DJ DJ Paul ready and so it'll be it'll be a good time. That is great. Now you have a website, so if folks want to find out a little bit more about Samaritan Counseling and Growth Center, where did they go on the World Wide Web? Yes, Samaritan Bartlesville dot org. That easy easy. I like that. That's a nice shortsweek that tells you where you're going and where. Sure. Yeah, so location, our services and a little bit about us.
And it even has a link to our two events this year on there, so well hot dog, Yes, and you know, tell you what do you guys really have it going on there and we really appreciate the great services that you that you provide for people. And once again, you know, this is something we're in a day and age where getting counseling is completely different
than what it was like say in the last century. Sure when I was young, Yeah, I mean people went, but they didn't say anything about it, right, and it was very private and it's still very private. That is your business. It's not anybody else's business. Yeah, But the thing is there's no taboo. That's the goal is to break that stigma, and it's something that you know, everybody can use and just someone to talk to here and there, right, you know, we all need that.
And whether or not you think that you don't, you probably have already had a conversation with someone that pretty much replicates some of the conversations might be one up closed doors. So it's nothing that's you know, stranger unusual. It's just let's let's get to the root of what's going on here, let's find out if you thanks, And it's really so, and that's part of the growth part. You get to grow with a person. Absolutely, you get
to grow as a better person, happier person, healthier person. Person maybe who might someday want to go play Cornwall. Yes, and there was good Cooper and Mill and that is going to be Saturday, March the second, at two pm. Now, Kristin, you've been the interim executive director for ten years now, right, heh Yeah, it's been eighteen months, so you know it's a special place and you've get on that board a long time. Yeah, since January twenty seventeen, I think, so I've been tied
in since I moved back to Bartlesville. And yeah, and always have my heart well, you know what, it's a great place to have your heart right there. Where where folks need help once, thank you for coming in? Is oh, yes, there anything else that I mean miss because sometimes
I just get going. No, I think that's it. I will just say we do have sponsorships still available, so even if you don't play cornhole hands sponsor and that's out on the event website as well, and we're going to have that on our website here and also on Facebook and a little bit folks, so if you be just a little bit patient with the old geezer here, we'll get that out there to you and you can sign up and you can just see you'll be in that number. We hope to see you
on March second. And don't forget Shorties will be the food truck. And of course there are plenty of beverages, plenty of offerings at Cooper and Mill are absolutely delicious. I'm saying yes, thanks for being with us to take
