Good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome. It is time now for our community connection right here on K one, the one you trust. Salvation Army is in the house, the swains are here. How are we doing? Kids? Good and a nice to be called kids? Yeah, So what's been happening at the at the Salvation Army. I know it's been a little warm, but we had a nice little break. But what's going on. Well, we've been having camps. You
want to speak about it? Oh, yeah, having camps came started around the first of June, so we were able to take several kids sponsored thirty children, that's a good number, and so we were able to take some to camp and I think they had a really good time. You know, we just uh he had He got to go with a group and I got to go with a group and it was yeah, you stay a whole week with them, and so mine was last week and you know, it was hot, but it was so much fun and I think all the kids really
enjoyed it. You know, when when kids go off to camp, to them, that's big vacation. That's a big deal. Yeah it is. You know, that's the first time that they're kind of out. They think they're on their own, but they're not. They're very well shuperized. And we had several that was their first, yeah, first time experience being a week away from you know, mom and dad, and they did I think
they did really well. And now we we had the tornadoes, and I know we covered this the last time you were here talking about that, yeah, huh with Monica. Yeah, yeah, but that was a that was a nice, little, uh, inconvenient test for every one of us, you know, I mean, we we like to think that we're very prepared as a community, but that took a lot of a spye surprise. Yeah,
it did take a lot of spy surprise. It was. It's an interesting thing when it's something like that happens, you know, it's it's amazing that there are other organizations as well as the Salvation Army who are prepared for moments like that and able to mobilize on a moment's notice. And we're thankful for all the all the different help that we got in the community. Uh,
you know, we we partnered with a couple of different organizations. The First Baptist Church provided the meals that we served and so that was that was great and there are other organizations that were involved as well. But yeah, it takes a it takes an army. It does an army. Now, I we we touched on this a little bit of vacation Bible School. Is that coming up? Yes, that is gonna be coming up with our kids,
not next week, with the week after. Is that all filled up as far as or do you need to have more little ones to pop in? I don't know, what do you think? I think it's just it's really just the kids that are at Kids Club. Yeah, it's yeah, that that's the normally what we do is the kids that we have signed up for day camp, right, Yeah, yeah, I'm sure that if there's others got by, we would we would bring them in. We would not
turn them away if they wanted to join. Yeah. Sure, So it's a week after next Yeah, Monday through Thursday in the mornings and sure, Yeah, everybody's welcome. It's going me in the morning time. Yeah, we've got I hate to say this now it's the middle of July, but falls approaching back to school and then you know, we got wintertime and some big things coming up. Can you kind of give us a prologue of what you're expecting. Yeah, we we have our Can food Drive which is coming
up in October, begins in October. Yeah. Last year, the you know, all the schools here in town get involved, and last year we were able to raise almost sixteen thousand cans, which can goods and items which we sort out in the days that follow and we use those for during our holiday season and we also use that for our food pantry. Super it is super important to the work that we do down there. Then we also have our Angel Tree campaign will be coming up very soon that we'll open up at
the beginning of September. Yep, at the beginning of September, we'll open up our Angel Tree for sign ups. Yep. That is coming up quick. Yeah, oh wow, yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah. September is not far away at all. Yeah, So that that will open up at first part of September. And then we you know, of course, we have our Red Cattle campaign and this year we have our Red Kettle kickoff coming
back, which is our fundraising event. We haven't had it since before COVID, and so we're we're hoping to come back with that with a bang and pretty excited about it. We are very excited about that. We've been been having some meetings, committee meetings trying to put that all together. But we're excited about it. Yeah. How does that red kettle thing come together? I mean, I understand that's a lot of work. Yeah, he usually does a lot of the red Kettle Okay, Yeah, Yeah, it is
a lot of work. You know, we we have we have different community members that are willing to to you know, come on board and just help us do the planning and put it all together. Adams. All of our Church of Christ is the is the location, and they've you know, they've worked with us just to provide a phenomenal space at a phenomenal price and you know, just able to put that together there. And we're we're still trying to put together some of the details, but you know, we're just trusted
in God knowing that it's all going to come together in the end. Yeah. Well, you know that's a good way to look at it to you know, you you're working with some fantastic partners out of this world. Yeah. So, and that that space that can accommodate a whole lot of people. Yeah, yeah, will Yeah. So yeah, now when we start getting into the busy. You're always busy, but this is where the after
burners come in. Do you need volunteers, We always need volunteers. In fact, we're signing up right now called Day of Caring, which you'll be able to go on United Way's website here. I'm not sure when the day is that it will be released. It's coming soon. It comes up soon, so maybe that's the time when you get on there. It's a little bit after that. But here in the next few weeks, you'll be able to go on the United Way website and you'll be able to see the different
projects that we have available and be able to sign up for those. And there's there's quite a few of them going to be on there. So yeah, I'm gonna be working on that today actually, yeah, you know, yeah, yeah, Yeahted. Now, United the Way people are very nice to work with, aren't they They're great? We were wonderful. We absolutely the United Way. They've been really good to us. We're so thankful to partner with them in this community. And the other partner organis partner organizations.
Yeah, it's it's we're kind of in a unique area right here where we were blessed that folks have a common vision for how things need to be in order for all of us to have our best lives. And it's really a blessing to be in this little part of the world where that can happen. Yeah, for sure, it really is. I don't know about other places you've been, but not everybody has a common vision. Yeah, yeah, we really do have some. Yeah, some great relationships here, and you're
right, it is an amazing community. We we noticed that when we first got here. I said, coming to our last year, I was just I don't know, it was just kind of blown away at the the love in the community. I just never I don't know, it was really amazing discuss see, yes it is. You don't see it everywhere, and so I'm like, wow, this is a wonderful community. They really come together and just want to support and just love each other. One of the things
that people who lived here all their lives that they really don't understand. They are of the mind that this is what it's like everywhere, and it's not. I don't think many folks realize just how unique we are. And it's a really good model. I think this is why when people like yourselves. You show up here, it's like, yeah, this is the right spot. Yeah yeah yeah, coming from Atlanta. We know, we came from Atlanta, Georgia, but we were there for two years. It was like
culture shock coming coming from Atlanta, night and day. Yeah, I bet that's a fast movie. That's like Chicago of the South, stoopid town except for the traffic. Yeah that's why I know, outside of Los Angeles, where you're only going to go fifteen miles per hour on the freeway. Yeah, exactly right. Yeah, it's kind of it's kind of odd because like people like they are going fast in the traffic, but yeah, traffic's not
going fast. Yeah, if that makes sense. Watch out. Oh yeah, well here in town you can get about anywhere you need to be within ten or fifteen minutes. And some people actually stop at the stop signs. Yeah yeah, you've got a lot of rollers. Well why I'm just telling you watch out yet some rollers here. But it's great to know Salvation Army is always there to help when help is needed. And one thing that I
was telling I'm done a couple of weeks ago. The Salvation Army doesn't stand up on a big old podium and beat their chests saying look at us, look what we've done. It's like we're here. If you need us, we're here, or the door's open, we're here. Yeah, And that's a real comfort. You don't feel overwhelmed. You feel like, wow, they're here, and you feel comfortable coming in and you know, seeing what
the army is all about. Yeah, yeah, kind of on that note, you know, one of the things that's happening right now is is July is Home Energy eight month for the for the Salvation Army. And there's a slip of paper in your bill for PSO or ONNG or og and E that
some people might look over. It's just stuffed in there, and it's if you want to support the Salvation Army in our work to help support those who are who are struggling to pay their bills and and so you know, there's a contact card in there and you can pledge a certain amount of money. But this is this is the month that we promote that the most and last year across the state of Oklahoma, we helped almost seventy five hundred individuals,
about twenty four hundred families right here in the three county area. We helped Yeah, we we helped two hundred and twenty six families with their home energy aid and uh, and that's all. It's all made possible by those who pledge that little extra on their on their payment and uh and that and that comes back to us. Everything that's paid in no wata O sage in Washington County stays right here. And no water well doesn't grow legs and go to
California, does go anywhere else. Yeah, that money stays right here in the three counties. And so that's that's huge. You know, sometimes poverty is is uh, it's it's kind of invisible. You know. We keep up appearances and and everybody thinks things are okay. They don't see things like our light bill or our or things of that nature, you know, and so it can be tough to see that the family next to us is struggling. But uh, but those but those pledges, they make such a difference.
You know, I've known people, I've actually worked with people I did not know that they were homeless. They were homeless. Yeah, they're working, yeah, and came to work looking just like everybody else, working just like everybody else, but they're basically living out of their car. For a long stretch of time you had nobody had any idea, and that that's really nowhere to go, no where to go. And I know that pride gets in the way sometimes, but you know, Salvation Army's got a little bit
of love too. They got to give them a call and just see what can be done. If it can't be done there, it can. You know a lot of people where you can get some help, don't you very well connected folks, But this is this is really kind of cool having you guys here in studio. It's always a blessing. I feel a lot better about the world when I hear the positive message that you two bring us each and every time you're here. And you guys, you can't wipe the smile
off their faces. It's got to feel good in the heart to help folks. It does, it is it's a joy. Oh my goodness. How can people help out right now? I know we need volunteers little bit later on, but sometimes, Pope, we've got a couple extra hundred dollars that are just burning in their pocket and they say, I better do something good with this before I do something stupid. Yeah, I might be one of the people. Yeah, July August, September. It's the end of our
fiscal year, you know, it's it's such time. Yeah, it's it is. It's it's a low point for us as far as giving, So giving really matters right now. And so yeah, if anybody has that extra money right now, it's super meaningful and goes a very long way to help support the cause down. Now, how can we go back? Can we just go by it and write to Check? You can go behind right said Check. You can mail a check to one oh one north of Ucy Avenue
at Bartlesville, Oklahoma, seven four zero zero three. Or you can go on our website to Bartlesville's Salvation Army dot work and there's a there's a spot on there to give, and and all the money that's given through that website stays right here in Bartlesville as well. I'm asking for a friend here. Is there a way that someone could donate anonymously? They sure can, Yes, you can donate. I know that somebody goes about gold coins an awful
lot and put them into cattle. Yeah, so I just wanted to the gold coin person. Actually, when you give online, it is you know, there's a there's a way to give their anonymously. Yeah, yeah, because I know there are folks who kind of like the Salvation Army. They don't like to hoot and holler and say, well you look what I did. They just want to do it and feel good and feel it that way. Yeah. Man, it's so cool. Yeah all right, so once again, folks, stop buying visit you can get take a tour, can't
you. Yes, you can do that. Yeah. They wanted to kind of take a door right oh yeah. Yeah. Beautiful facility, Yeah, nice air conditioning, got that all stick. And also while you're there, you might want to ask how you might be able to be of service to volunteer because coming up to the time to volunteer. Yeah, quickly upon us to thank you both for being here. Have we missed anything by the way we covered this time? Yeah, yeah, I tell you what, I'm
amazed because you guys do so much. I figured I forgot something. All right, thank you. We've had the Salvation Army and here the Swains are with us, and that you've been listening to our program brought to you by artold More Niquev
