Good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome to time from part two of our community conection right here on K one the one to trust Amy Finn Easier with us and I can only guess that we're going to be talking a little bit about fun today, are we. Oh, that's what we're all about when we talk Ali, we are talking. We are talking, Holli, and it's back to school of time for the kids and also the kids at heart that would be us, that is us.
So tell us a little bit about Ali. First of all, what does ol I stand for? For the folks who've not been around for our propos? Lifelong Learning Institute? Okay, that sounds like something that people my age could get into. You would really enjoy it because we always are looking for something. We might be retired, but we're not retired from learning. That's true. You learned something new every day. So we try to give
people an opportunity to continue to learn. And what my job is on the Bartlesville Coordinators, so I try to find speakers and classes that would interest people. And we're getting ready to start our fall semester starts September the nineteenth, runs through November the nineteen, and I'm going to tell you about our classes.
First of all, I see Monday. That looks pretty good. Well, you know, we have so many of us have these air fryers and different appliances like that, and we just barely know how to use them, or maybe don't even so in the box after Christmas doing it. So we'll have a class that we'll teach you. And this is gonna be taught by the Extension Office and teach you how to use these different appliances. Cool. I think it'd just be great. And Stacy Dawson with the Yeah, it's
gonna do that, of course. And this is gonna be at the library. Yes, all of our classes except for one will be at the library. Okay, good because they got that nice little kitchen and well it's not little it is, but you know what it's. It is so ultra modern. You have to use their utensils to cook with. If you don't know how to use them already, then they've got to give you a little quick, a little bit of learning to do them. Oh, but that's good.
It's all part of the fun of learning. Yes, And at our age, we enjoy it when somebody doesn't perform properly. It's entertainment because we feel a little bit better about ourselves because we know that could have been ourselves. Life has taught us to learn to laugh at ourselves indeed, and you know that's part of the fun of ALI too. We got lots of classes. What goodness you came here with. It's an armload of these things. Yes, it's a lot of work to put this together. Yeah, I'm
just I'm looking. That's a main goodness thinks. Yeah, you didn't play around this summer. So what do we got on Tuesdays here? Okay, on Tuesdays we have a town hall that's really popular and what I try to do there is get speakers for from industry organizations just different things like that. And so what we have for the town hall is we have Michelle Kellnese, who's going to teach us about, you know, downsizing. We're at the
states where we need to downsize. So it's tips for praising and selling and doteint et your items, how to sort that out. Then we have Pete Wallersheet, who is a professional magician magic man. That should be a lot of fun and should be Then we have Joe Williams on the third of October. He's gonna give us a history on Rita Pump and since he worked for them, it'll be a personal journey that he'll talk about. Uh. And then Jack Flaherty it's going to be due History, the start in times of
Duey, Oklahoma. And then we have Kennedy McCall with the OSU Extension Office. She's gonna do Master Gardners for us. Good. Yeah. And Jonathan Eickman is from the Voice of Murders. I don't know if very many people know about them or not. We just played him. It's a little bit ago. We do it every day. Very interesting group. Oh they are they are? I'm really yes, yes, and I'm really looking forward to that. And then we have Karl Kyle Thorison who's the park ranger out at
Osage Hills. He's been doing some excavating and found some things and so he's gonna give us an update and he not only gives a good presentation, but he's an entertainer as well. That's what I've been told. So everybody lives here. But and then on Wednesdays, Oh Tusie. Also we finally brought back the movies and Sidney Bremer's going to be doing that and this session will be on immigrant perspectives. She's brought back the old movies Black and Whites and
it was Comedies last semester and she's really really good at this. Then we have wine tasting and this class has filled up. I wonder why, Yes, Captain Palis is doing that, and it's on domestic wines. It bring your owner, no no, she brings the wine and you get sample two and and you're supposed to analyze it and all that. She teaches you how
to do that and it's pretty interesting. On Wednesdays we have Bubbles has a lot of retired professionals that could teach these classes, but they'll say they have a life and they don't want to commit to a series of classes. So we kind of look outsides and like Stillwater, Tulsa, and Uphoma City, they all have some retired professors that are always happy to get back in because
all the people are so much fun to work with. They pay a lot more attention to them than their students did and get more involved, so they really enjoy that. So one of those classes is going to be these strategies to promote brain health, which we all could use. Now, these are live feeds that are going to come into the library. Okay, so you don't have to say a lot because they say, I'm not doing that zoom clash, you know. So we're bringing it into the library so you can
come in there just like you're going to a regular class. Then we have carbon Stone, which is gravestone graphics and cemetery customs that should be really really interesting. And then we have on Thursday another live feed which is Cherokee old Settlers and Johnny to Mullins is really really good about Indian history and that sort of thing, so that's really interesting. Then we have a Silent Journey, which is untold stories from the past. I don't know if you know Andy
Taylor or not from the newspaper in Keaney. He always researches local history and so that's I'm not sure what his topics are going to be, but that's what he's doing. He's very entertaining. And then we'll wind up with a Dewey day trip and we'll go to the Toms Museum, Dewey Hotel, and
to Prairie Song. You know something that the tom Mix Museum will kind of throw you off a little bit, because when you come right up to it, you think, well, that looks kind of small, and then you get in and collo the thing is huge, is really deep, and it goes way back around and back up to the front. It's really a sizeable to see him, and it's really well worth the price of a bishop.
It does. And you know these old heroes, if you will. The thing that surprised me the most is when I saw how big he wasn't yeah, even about my height, maybe even shorter. I think he was about the size of my middle son, who wishes he was bigger. But but the thing is on that screen he looks six foot four, I know, I know, And then really he wore that. Yes, yes, And
we're gonna have a booth this year out at the Washington County Fair. Oh so, if you want a catalog that has all about Ali and the classes and everything, we have those in different places around town, the library and and just several different places. But we're gonna be out at the fair as well. We'll have a booth out there. We'll have the catalogs and if you want more information you need some help to sign up for any of the classes, we'll be glad to help you. So great. Well, we're
gonna be broadcasting out there. Fine check you out and just say see how you're getting along. O the word come out and busy yet okay? Yes, by all means all right, and you'll be an air conditioned comfort for sure too. I can guarantee that that's so. It's nice. It's always nice. And if the folks are handy on the computer, where can they go on the computer to maybe just kind of get an overview of it all?
Well, Ali has a Facebook page, huh, and also a website and you can go to Ali dot Okay State dot edu for the complete descriptions and also the register. Now you do have to be a member to take the class. However, the town hall is free oh yeah to anybody. But we want you to register because we need names. You have a headcount, you know, me chair to put in there. It helps, yes,
we do. But it is free, and that's a good opportunity for anybody to just come and hear whatever subject might be interesting to them, and also to kind of get an idea of the quality of classes that we have. Oh wonderful, Amy, it's always a blast having you in here today. And thank you very much. We'll be seeing you at the fair. Oh yes, that's exciting already. I love the fairs. I do too. Take care of folks. You've been listening and watching our community connection right here on K one
