Good morning, good morning, good morning, welcome, welcome struggles, and now for our community connection right here on K one, the one you trust. You know, there's just a little bit of a coolness in the air, and that means that fall is near. And with that in mind, we know what's coming up with Family Healthcare Clinic. It's the miles from mammogram five k oh. Yeah, how are we doing, ladies, due grand First of all, Trianna Whyatt is the executive director. First time on radio.
How you doing. I'm doing really well. Well, of course you are. Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you came to be with the Family Healthcare Clinic. Okay, Well, I've been visiting Bartlesville over the last ten years and we became a resident last year. So gratulation, thank you. It's a really great community. We love it so much here. I came from Navy background. I was you know, medical and the Navy, and then after that we got out and travel around the country just
kind of bouncing around doing school. Ended up here and you know, opening opened up in Family Healthcare Clinic and I applied and here I am well, and I gotta tell you you've got good company there. You've got a great team. It's a wonderful team. I am so lucky to have the group that's working over there. You know, everybody puts their heart and soul into taking care of our patients. Everything is always one hundred percent effort. It's just amazing. I'm so proud to be their leader. Well, I gotta
tell you, it's a great team, and you do great work. And we have Kathy Smith here. Many may have had Kathy as a school teacher a few years back. How are you doing today? You have a very beautiful story to tell, and it did. It started out very happy, happy, and then there came a few challenges. But the beauty is in the help and the recovery. Tell us a little bit about it. Well,
I was teaching at Central Middle School. I was thirty nine years old and found a BB size little lamp and went in and had it checked out, and three days later I had a regiment of surgery and chemo and radiation, and so I spent two years fighting cancer and one and one the sport. If you're seeing the picture here on TV, on Facebook Live and on k one TV dot com, it says warrior and you got the pink ribbon, and you are a warrior, a very happy warrior. You had a
lot of help. You were telling me that if it wasn't for quote, the village might not have been as a good at turnout. It took a village, my two daughters, and aunt's, uncle's cousins and parents of the students who I had, and just the village, all of Bartlesville. And it all started with the mammogram that I did. If i'd something the size of a B B. Yes, and in time in order to make you the happy, healthy woman that you are today, smiling right here on the
radio early detection, did it and really treat it. That's what goes on at the Family Healthcare Clinic. We do so many things all around for everyone's health, but this is something that is known far and wide. It's the mamograms. Yes, so Family Healthcare Clinics mammogram program is funded by this five K. So all the proceeds go towards supporting our free coupon program which sends our patients to get a breast screening mammogram completely free of charge to the patient.
And this would keep people who normally would say, well it's cost prohibitive. I can't do that. This takes the no out of it, It takes the objection away, and it says your path is clear to go get screened, to go get a checkup, to go make sure you're going to be happy and healthy the rest of your life. Yes, And you know, one of the one of the biggest barriers to healthcare is the expense that
comes along with it. So you know, one of the first things to go is always the preventative care side, the screenings, the yearly checkups and all that stuff to try to catch things. So you know, each coupon that we give our patients has an average worth of eight hundred and twenty five dollars of savings out of pocket cost, so you know, it really makes
a difference for people who aren't able to afford all of this. You know, in in this year alone, it was projected that thirty two hundred Oklahomans would receive a breast cancer diagnosis. So you know, you you look around and you don't think that it's really that common, but there's there's quite a few and that's just Oklahoma. You know, that's not worldwide. So for our program, you show up to the clinic for a for your appointment,
and you leave with the coupon and an appointment for your mammogram. That coupon will cover everything from their radiological and diagnostic imaging all the way through a biopsy if needed. My goodness sakes, and I thought my twenty cents off Jeff, was a good coupon. That this is one er. This is a life saver. That's what it really true is And again with the miles for mammograms five k, this is the big generator for this, yes it is.
We you know, we raise money to send between fifty and seventy five patients to get a free mamogram. And that's men and women because men are also able to get breast cancer as well. Good friend of mine did and Perry is living proof today that it does happen. And yes, you can survive caught it time just like you did. And wow, and it was just one of those things. It's it's amazing now the miles for mammogram is always kind of fun, not kind of fun. It is fun now.
I don't even run and I go down there just to watch people do that and say, hey, you know, thirty five years ago I could do that. But you see families. You see people who are diehard runners, and you see people who've never really run much more than you know, to the refrigerator and back, and you see all kinds. But everybody's doing it for the cause. And it's not always there for the metal, it's not always there for the T shirt, but it is there for the cause.
Can you tell us a little bit how folks can get kind of set up on this absolutely, so you know, there's several ways that you guys can support the five k. We're looking for volunteers for the day of the event, which is Saturday, September thirty at at nine am. We need people to help run the booths and to set up before the race. We also, you know, our our goal for fundraising this series forty thousand dollars. We're about twenty four hundred dollars away from reaching that goal, so every far
really excited to you know we're so close. If you want to donate or sponsor for the race, or a register for the race, you can go to our website miles from Mammograms dot org and there's links that connects you to everywhere you'd like to be. Now, Kathy, you're the Honorary chairp of the Cancer Journey. And how can people show their support. Well, as Trianna said, they can sign up to volunteer, and it's kind of like giving a party. There's just last minute things that have to be done,
like light the candles. Well that's the same way with mouths from emigrams. There's last minute things to be done that morning. And so volunteer, sign up to be on someone's team. I have teen Gammy Yes donate. Last year I ran the five K as a seventy year old, thirty year breast cancer survivor. It was not easy, but I came in third in the well Son of a Gun in the old age category and raised almost four thousand
dollars just you know, contacting people and them contacting me. And so get on that website called the Clinic and if you want to help out and know that you probably have saved someone's life, it's a good feeling. In the amount of time we've been doing this interview, eight people have been diagnosed with breast cancer really just since we started shocking numbers, yes, oh months, So this is a paramount. So let's go. Let's get a couple more
runners. Let's get a couple more donors. Let's kind of let's not kind of, let's just push it past the mark. Okay, we can set a new record next year, yes, but this year, let's make it happen. We will tell us a little bit about where you can be found, not only on the world wide webs but also right here on the geophysical right down the road. Sure. Yeah, so our physical building Family Healthcare Clinic is on eighteen twenty Hensley of Oard. It's right at the corner of
one twenty three and sixty, right below the water tower. Yes, right below the water tower. Our website is Family Healthcare Clinic dot org. There's information about the services that we offer as a primary care clinic. We offer affordable healthcare for anybody you know, whether you're insured or uninsured. Come on in. We have great providers, a great team to help everybody to get
everything taken care of it they need to. Well, that is that is great, And folks on once again, if you can and if you're ready, willing and able to let's go with Miles from ever Graham. Support somebody you know, and if they've been asking and you've kind of not gotten back to them, make sure you commit okay, and if you want to, you can just go to the website and you plunk down. You know you've got a couple hundred bucks or maybe even fifty. They're just burning a hole
in your pocket. Put it to good use, put it to great use, save a life, okay, ladies. And I want to thank you for being here today. You did a great job and you got the word out and good luck and let's set a new record. All right, all right, thank you very much. You've been listening to our
