Good morning, good morning, good morning, Welcome, welcome, welcome into time now for our community connection right here on K one, the one you trusted in studio today. Rachelle Wilson, how are yah? I'm doing well, Tom, how are you today? Every time you hear I know it is really spring boarding on summer because with the Kawanas Bartelsville, you got a big, big, big responsibility. We do have a big responsibility which happens
those time, several several responsibilities. This time of year, we have the good news of talking about something that's opening up. That's right sooner, Junior Miniature Golf. We will be opening May third, and we'll be open Fridays, Saturday and Sunday evenings from six to ten. We also host parties and this year, since we didn't have to do any major renovations at the course, I actually hosted my first party in February. Nice. It was nice. It was nice. Yeahs yes, yes, not yet at all,
but this is great. Now you're in charge of getting everything kind of green and spruced up around there too, and it really looks nice. It always does, and it seems like like blast year. You rub to your ears and marry Gold's and all kinds of We love to keep the course looking good and that that includes, you know, the turf presentation, the sidewalks. We have a loop on a whole six and I took it to K and B Coatings. They did a great job. They sand blasted it, powder
coated, clear sealed, and I'm calling it the Purple Wave. It's a lot of fun. It's really pretty. It's got a little iridescence to it, and you know, looks really nice, really nice on the green. And you know, I'm continuing to work on the beds. I've got Jim Sweezy, He's done some concrete repairs. You know. Several members of the club came out on April sixth and we emptied the clubhouse and cleaned all the cobwebs out, you know, and wiped the toads off and got everything organized.
I had some special help this year from Jake Simpson. He goes to Dewey High School and he came and helped to do some pool repair and painting and emptied pots from last year, just the old soil. And then Adeline Crouch, she's a member of the National Junior Honor Society. She repainted our putter cart. It looks beautiful, absolutely beautiful, and she's working on some other projects. So just you know, getting in some volunteer hours and it's
nice to have the kids you know, there and ready to help. Very good and of course you're open for your regular schedule, but you also have parties, so you take care of during the week. We do have parties. We you know, people can book Monday through Thursday, any time during the day or evening, and then on Friday, Saturday and Sunday that can they can as long as we get the party started at four, we can. We can take parties as late ast as late as four o'clock. And
honestly, we're going to host our first wedding event this year. It's very exciting and so I'm just I'm looking forward to that. We want to want to make the course look look really special for that. So that is that's something that you just don't have that every day. No, no, but it's a it's going to be a blended family, you know, and so you know, the kids will be able to cut loose and you know they can do a quiet ceremony you know with the adults, and so yeah,
it'll be it'll be a really fun event. This sounds great now, the kawanas Uh, you're going to be doing something here with the recipients of scholarships. Pretty that's correct. So sooner Junior functions as our fundraising operation. So with the funds that we raise throughout our season, which runs you know, May through September regular hours, public play and then we do go into October
for parties and our Halloween bash. But with that money, we designate one thousand dollars for each of the five high schools, and we accept applications for Senior of the Year and we award a one thousand dollars scholarship for those you know who put in a really good essay. We also do Sophomores of the Year, so those are one hundred dollars awards and the purpose of those is to get students thinking about the scholarship process and to understand, you know,
you've got an application. There are very specific instructions generally with those applications, but just to get them familiar with the process so they can do that. We also award fifty dollars awards or scholarships to eighth graders of the year.
Eighth grade boys and girls. So just recognizing those students who they are actually being recognized by their principals and their teachers, and then Tri County Tech we provide a five hundred dollars scholarship to your traditional students who are high school seniors. And then the adult education we award, you know, so that if they want to pursue five hundred, you know, they're more education or maybe buy some equipment, a laptop or something, they've got some funds to move
forward with. Now this is where the fund begins, because not only do the recipients get the award, the cash award, but you have a little ceremony that you do and it kind of ties it all together. On May twenty second, we will do a big Hamburger cookout. We can do veggie burgers to but we're gonna grill out at Sooner Junior and invite everyone to come out and join us for a meal and do the awards ceremony and then invite everyone to stay and play a game of miniature golf. That's so nice,
that's cool. You know. The Kwanians also drop a line and then into the water and hope for nibble at the other end. You got that coming up too. We do. On May eleventh, we will be hosting our fishing Derby and I think we've got to be approaching seventy years, but this
is open to children from three years to twelve years. The age brackets are three to six, seven to nine, and then ten to twelve, and we award prizes for just varying you know, large fish, you know, interesting fish, and you know, we just recognize all of the students. It's a great time for you know, families to come out and we often see you know, grandparents, parents, you know, maybe an aunt or an uncle out, you know, but it's it's just a really fun time.
It's out at Joe Allen Low Park May eleventh. We'll start registration between eight fifteen and eight thirty and the fishing derby begins at nine. There you go, promptly. What's cool is that many of those adults you were talking about, Ann's uncle's grandparents, they did this when they were kids. That is true, that's true. Yes, this is one of those very fine traditions. It is. It is a fine tradition. Absolutely. Now, do you have a Facebook page where folks can maybe kind of refer to it?
In order to get some details for everything that goes on with we do we do you can Kawanas has a Facebook page Kuwanas of Bartlesville. Sooner Junior has Facebook page and Instagram, so you can Beville Sooner Junior. You know, just put in Sooner Junior and you'll find it there you go. Yeah, Now, are you looking for Kawanians. Absolutely, you know, We're always looking for people. I mean, our mission is serving the children of the world. So if you have a passion you know for kids and want
to you know, enhance their lives through education or fun events. I mean we in addition to Sooner Junior the Fishing Derby, we do the Fourth of July, we you know, throw up the fireworks, and we do the Christmas Parade. So we really are focused on community and you know, and family. So you know, you can We've got meetings at Tri County Tech every Wednesday at noon, and if you're out at Sooner Junior and want some information, just you know, go to the host at the clubhouse and we
can share information there. We can also call nine one eight nine seven seven thirty four hundred, leave us a message, or go to you know, our website and there's a contact UK for you know, just Kuanas Club of bartles Fille. What I like about the Quantis is that you're always involved in something, and it's always something positive, and it's always something that's very much in the warfront here in our community. And you know, it's always nice
to know that you've got signature events year round. It's not like you guys, you know, take the win or off or or something like that. You don't hibernate or anything like that. You guys are just cooking all the time. We are, we are, we are planning all the time, you know in the you know Karen Wilson and Conrad, you know, they do such a great job of getting you know, celebrate giving and you know just kind of organizing the Christmas parade and they're they're also on the SunFest board.
So you know, we've got our members are very involved in the community. Your members, I see them all the time at SunFest. So yeah, you're just everywhere. Yes, now you have a little tournament, don't you, right around SunFest with the Center Junior Golf. Well we're looking at that to possibly revamp it. So I'm going to sit tight on that one until we finalize all the details, but we've got ideas to kind of change it up. So yeah, well that'll be a surprise, all right,
that'll be a surprise. Okay. You just keep it right here, folks, and keep looking at their Facebook page for updates on that. I want to thank you very much Rochelle for being here with us today and talking about the Kuanas Club and all of the positives that come out of it. Thank you, Thank you, Tom. I appreciate your time, appreciate yours.
We've got more of our morning show coming up, and just a little bit after these words from Arnold Moore and niecamp Unial Home, Wesley and Kitty College, get Real Ministries and tall Grass Motors
