The one you trust. And right now with our community connection, we have mister mister Jims squeasy hearing he is with the kawannas and kawannas. We're busy all the time, but this time we're beating some hooks. I'm ready to have some fun, aren't we? That we are, Tom, It's gonna be a fun day. Saturday morning, Saturday morning. Gosh, it's you're already sure sign of summer, isn't it. That's right. Tell us a
little bit about the fishing derby that takes place every year. That's a tradition we've put on for fifty well seventy two years since nineteen fifty one, so we've enjoyed doing that. It's it's about bringing families together, letting the kids come out and have some fun catching fish out of the pond. And and we'd like to make a little competition out of it and measure the fish and
see how big they are and give out prizes. All the kids get a prize, and we have trophies for the biggest fish and different age categories, so everywhere from age three up through age twelve, we'll have a good time out there. Those little eaty biddies will surprise you some time. That's right, gets some of the biggest and just like, well, what do you know, I might be good at this, but it is a lot of fun. And we're tell everybody where we're going to be dropping the hooks Joel
and Low Park. That pond there just off Price Road and just west of the Highway a little way, so everybody in the area should bring their kids out and come on out. Now. Is there a charge to sign up? No charge, It's all free. We have local merchants have made donations to help us with prizes and we do that as a service to the community.
Our Kawana's Club enjoys doing that. Now, Kawanas has been around a while here in Bartlesville, and you're known for really taking an interest in especially the youth, but making a big difference in our community as well all around. I mean everything from scholarships to just about everything. We try to stay involved. We certainly do. We enjoy putting on the fireworks show, which
would be coming up soon on fourth of July. And we just opened the miniature golf course at Soonor Park Sooner Junior and we have a blast in that and the kids and the whole family enjoys that. Now if you haven't been out there for a while now, last year you redesigned one of the fairways well eighteen Yeah, that was someone that has the platform and the ball goes up the hill and back into the building when you make it down the hole. So we made that a little more permanent. It's all concrete now,
so it'll last a long time. You have to worry about warping. Right. How did our Eagle Scout project do out there? It went very well. We had a we had a great turnout there. She coordinated several helpers out there to get it done and painted the whole building, several other all the scoreboard posts all around the course and it really looks nice. Oh wow,
So you got to come out there weekends when we do it. But we also have what special events during the week that's right by appointment parties and events every day every evening, so you can book book a time there. There's a schedule there you go. Yeah, I remember when the movies were in town that some of the actors from Killers with the Flower Moon, We're coming over just kind of sneaking off away from Pahaska, just get in eighteen
over there. Yeah, we had one of the actors in particular that really enjoyed playing golf, and I have a prilege to get to know him very well and played several times with him. So we had a good time. That's great. Now that's Sooner Junior Park. And that's over there in Sooner Park. Now this is at Joe Allen where the fishing derby is taking place. Now do we register when we get there? How do we how do
we control of this big influx of kiddos? That's right. The phishing starts at nine o'clock, registration at eight thirty, so we will be there before that to get set up and ready, and if the kids will get there around eight thirty, we'll get them all signed up and and we have a boy scouts from a Troop six that'll be out there to help us circle the pond and radio or phone in the results to the headquarters table. So they get a kick out of that, don't think they do? Go it?
Yeah, I'm in I'm wearing a uniform and I got a radio. That's that cool? I mean that's growing up stuff there. Oh yeah, Oh so now I do the bringing it bring your own pole but what happens if you got a youngster that's maybe a little that doesn't have have equipment. Do we have Well, we try to bring a few extra rods and reels. Can't guarantee you, but we can't, that's right. But we asked them to bring your own equipment. And most most of the kids have belting some
type. Yeah some of you is artificial, babe, but mostly worms or minnows or something. And creepy crab ask all the fishermen to have a parent with him or an adult somebody at least sixteen years old that can help him out in case to get one of them big whoppers, you know. And there you go. Let me grab you by the way, so we all look at that thing. It's size of your hand. You know. That kind of happens, and the kids, they just get so excited. Just
get a nibble, that's right. I remember being a little guy, and you know, I never thought I was ever going to catch a fish, but getting that nibble that was everything in the world. Finally pulled one how the water and said, hey, yeah, you got to go back in. But this is all catching release, right, do catching release? Yeah? We re stock leaving them in there so we don't deplete the supply. Oh, very good, very good. You know, that is such a
beautiful surrounding out there, and if mother nature cooperates. You know, she's been putting the ring on pause mostly so we might get a little pause there early in the day and it ought to be really nice. But it's really kind of pictureresque out there. It's very nice. See how the city has done a lot to improve that park in the last year. They cut a lot of lambs up higher on the trees so the sun we'll get through, and brought in a whole bunch of sawed and put out there so we don't
have the mudy spots. So it's much improved and in very good shape. Very good. So you know, youngsters, bringing it out with you and let's have some fun. Three to twelve. It is age three through age twelve, three different age brackets. Okay, so that way, you know, you're kind of eating league with your peers there. You don't have to worry about some twelve year old crowding out if you're three. Boy, I remember those days, but after a little bit of therapy, I got over
it. But anyway, it's all good fun. And it's a great way for families to kind of connect and have fun. And who knows, you know, your kids probably will walk away making new friends. That's usually way it works, I think, So they'll have a good time. Oh yeah, indeed. Now, Kawanas, you've got a great website. It's been kind of a little under construction, yes, but it's going looking pretty good.
I believe it's launched. There maybe a little more tweaking going on, but it is out there for everyone to see what all we're involved in. And burtlesfale Kawanas. We have a Facebook page two people can go to and just see what we're all about. And you know, it's very well up cap you know, the europe to date on everything there and if you really want to see what's coming up ahead, there's usually a good long stretch there that you can plan ahead, make plans with your family, like the Fishing
derby, like Freedom Fest, or even even act the Christmas preade. Planning and planning is already underway for the Christmas pread. You know, you guys killed me with that thing. Yeah, absolutely killed me because I know that it takes so much effort to put it on right. And then about a month after it's over. Well, back to the road board, back to it. Yeah, he's never stopped. Yeah, it's never stopped. Now,
we're fortunate we've recruited some new Kawanist members to help us. But everyone in the club has a passion for serving the community, especially the youth in the community, and doing things to put smiles on those kids' faces. And we do quite a few scholarships through out the season antc And you can find that up on the website as well, and you're gonna take a look at it. You're gonna see, Wow, maybe I should be a kawani. And how how do we become a member of the Quants Club. Well,
we're open to anyone that wants to come and visit. We meet at Trike County Tech first and third wednesdays of each month. We have we also meet the other wednesdays for planning sessions, but we have speakers and programs on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Very good, no secret handshake or anything like that. At four times to skip on the fanthy you know,
nothing too mysterious, there's oh well, good dude. And if it's all your friends and neighbors anyway, that's right, and that's why there's such a great community partner. Hey Jim, thank you very much. Anything we missed, I think we're about to cover it, all righty, Let's drop some hooks and pull in some fish. Sounds like fine, all righty, Thank you very much. Listening to our community connection on K one, the one you trust right here, it is now. I
