Good morning, Good morning, good morning, and welcome. Welcome. Mulcommittee is at time now for our community connection right here on K one, the one you trust, and we're talking with our representatives today from the Delaware Tribe of Indians, Luanna Striking, Acts Murphy and also Danny Fisher. First of all, welcome, Hello. It's always great to have company. I like
this. This is really good and I know it's a brutally hot day out there today, but I understand the deals are just as hot as Lenape Reserve. Yes they are. Tell us a little bit about the reserve. So, Lenape Reserve is a tribally owned gift shop and supply store. We're located on the campus of the Delaware Tarba Indians off of Tuxedo. We recently opened the end of October twenty twenty two, so we're getting ready to close in on one year of being open to the public. Well, what can we
find inside? We can find fabric, we can find silver work, Native American jewelry, Native crafts made by h H different artists, Native artists from local and surrounding areas and states, and UH jewelry, non perishable foods, just a wide arrangement of goods. And you said, a lot of this is designed right here locally, but the Delaware crime. Now a little Bertie told me that you're a bit of a designer an artist yourself. Yes,
I am. I have a brand called Native spring Flower Creations, and I'm getting ready to go to New York Fashion Week September sixth through the tenth New York City. Wow, I like that. Now, what's going on there? I mean, what's this I should weave all about? I mean, so every year they have two fashion New York Fashion Week, it's uh September and February. So this one coming up in September will showcase spring and summer
fashions. They have a lot of different productions. And I applied probably about six months ago as a designer and I'm going to be showcasing my work for rise New York Fashion Week, well from Manhattan. How you like that? My goodness sake, don't get lost all those big tall buildings. Okay, I'll try not to. All right, I understand the folks, they are
really pretty nice. Just don't don't don't get pre carried away. So I'm pretty excited because I'm a Lenape tribal member in New York City was our original homelands. That's what the cheap Brad was telling me. He said that, you know that you guys got moved all the way from New York City to Oklahoma. So this is kind of a homecoming. Yes, it's exciting. I imagine it is. I barely get any sleep lately. I'm just sewing away, just sewing away. Yeah, well this is a big deal.
I mean, everybody gets invited to New York City for anything, you know, let's learned something big like this, like fashion week. Yeah, yeah, I'm pretty excited. Well, well cool. We also have Danny Fisher here is with us and Danny we're talking about some environmental stuff. We're here with the tribe. And when I'm talking about stuff, I mean stuff we kind of want to unload. Here. Get a little closer to the microphones. Tell us a little bit about what you have coming up. Yeah,
we're having a lenape E waste recycling event September the ninth. We've had to change the date. We had registation for a second that day's not gonna workforce, so we moved to the ninth. This one more week to collect all your goods. You want to get rid of that will be there on the grounds of the complex the Tuxedo Boulevard. We're gonna take items from ten am to two pm. We'll have a trailer sit up there a big sign. You won't be able to miss it. If you drive by Tuxedo by the
Tribal Complex, Uel, you'll see us out there collecting. You just drive up, drop your goods off. We'll actually probably tact them out of your your trunk, your back of your truck, however you want to do it. We'll unload them for you. The items we're gonna take, it's a whole a whole bunch of stuff. Looks like you got a great big page. It is basically anything you think of that has like an electronic component to
it. We don't want those just going in our landfills. There. There's precious metals in the area that we can we can and recycle and put them in other other devices. So if some of the items is any kind of cable, you have telephone, cable, internet, cable, anything, we'll take those PC tablets, computers, old satellite boxes, anything that kind of has power, stereo speakers, microwave, TV, mica we will take well, I mean, if you got it, bring it. If you bring
it to me, I'll take it. We'll figure out a way to dispose it. But yeah, digital camera, slash drives, fax machines, I mean, anything you can think of the kind of the stuff that you have around the house. You get it's kind of out of date, like your old fifty six came modem stuff like that. You got, even that old internet technology stuff. Let's get rid of that. There's no need for that
stack of old printers. Yeah, yeah, yeah, printers, anything like that, shredders, battery backup streaming devices, any ipology and that kind of stuff that you know don't work anymore, or anything basically that that tucky electric or or as any kind of components in it. Will take it and dispose
of it for you. Now, I'm seeing so these folks that go through the different things to get recycled this way, and they go through it with them with a big magnifying class just to get the little teeny pieces and parts out. And you know that that stuff is valuable and you can use those little chips exactly is what they're looking for. Yeah, and all those chips
with some precious metals in there that they can. You might have a big old fax machine, it might have just maybe a half a hounce of precious metal splash to take out of it, and then they'll actually get rid of the plastic and all the other components that are part of it as well. So that is that is amazing. That keeps it down with the dumb and keeps it up and running and used again. Yeah, because so many things that we have these days that that precious metal is what makes it run.
It is and we're in an age we're work quick to store everything away and buy new two and and we don't we don't need to do that. There's there's ways we can we can reuse, recycle and try to keep that waste from hitting our landfills. Well, you know, it's kind of ties into maybe some of the aren't that has been handed down through the tribes. Nothing was ever wasted, No in your history, nothing was nothing was ever wasted. We used everything that we needed to you know, cut our food,
to make our clothing, to supply our shelter. You know. So yeah, so what's everything old is new again? Yeah exactly. Well this is kind of cool, kind of coming full circle here. Now you guys have a wonderful facility out there on Texedo, and it houses just so many different things, the departments, departments of the tribe, but the campus in and of itself, it's just well, it's it's breath taking, it's growing. I understand that. I understand to putting a gym in there. Yeah,
there's plans for a gym, oh yeah, in some new houses. And we have a child care facility and we have family and children's services. We have a gym there, we have a gift shop there. We have an existing wellness center on campus already. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's not aware of that. The gym would basically expanded. Yeah. We also have the title six Elders Lunch from noon to one where they served elders. I
eat there every day pretty much. I'm excited about that. Well, I understand that's quite a group and a colorful bunch, the stories and everything else that comes around. That's a good sense of community there. Yes. So also I'd like to mention Delaware Tribe of Indians as the owner of t Tom Trade Cloth by Lenape and we supply a lot of native design fabric and rules and goods that are available to people to come and purchase fabric. It's it's
exciting. It's so if you come to Lenape Reserve, we have a large assortment of fabrics, native design fabrics, not something that you would find and other retail stores. So it's kind of like a specialty shop for Native goods. And well, come and check it out. Super and here it's nights and air conditions, yeah, very well, air condition do again, When is the date for our recycling September ninth, September ninth, Are you going
to be in New York at that day? Yes, my fashion, my fashion cheer for me, My fashion show is on September eight, so yeah, yeah, so will there be another date for this next year? Next year, next year? But for any members, any tribal members out there, we take e waste all the time. Yeah, this this event is just basically a big collection event for the whole for the whole community. But we collect for the tribe e waste, not only e waste, but our
cardboard, aluminum, paper, plastic. We recycle those items as well. For our travel members. Any actually, any Native American member of any tribe that's recognized can use our recycle facility. Okay, now, when we come up to the main campus, where do we go with our vehicle for the drop off that's coming the main interests of the complex, and you can't miss It'll have signs set up. We'll have a big banner out on the trailer. It'll be easy to see, so dummies like me won't get lost.
That mean's like me, yeah, well, this is really going to be great. And you have a website too, that Facebook page it's pretty darn active. So if folks are Delaware tribal members but you're not really kind of connected with the tribe and you're wanting to get a little closer, you're gonna catch up real fast because the website will tell you everything. Every meeting is
in detail. Every agency has a nice little section in there too to explain what's going on, how it works, and how you can access services. And even for folks who aren't members of the Delaware Tribe but they're interested in helping out. I mean, you got information there too. And there's some services that aren't just fournatives through FCS, they offer some things to some some
non native members in that regard as well. Okay, you know that's the Family and Children's Yeah, well that is such a vital thing of what goes on. You guys have a very prominent name. The tribe has a very prominent name when it comes to that because the way that the word is how you help families and help people get safe and remain safe. It's kind of legendary. So you know that that's a that's a big deal. We're excited to be part of the community. Well, very good, very good.
You take it easy out there in that New York. Yes, you get back there and we'll see you on the ninth when we get ready to get things going here with the e what we're calling that the e WA E recycle. There we go and that is really going to be cool. That is going to be something that I think that the whole community can get behind. And it's also a great wave. If you haven't been out there to the tribal campus, you get familiar with it and say, wow, it's been
a while. Yes. Also, I'd like to mention that Lenape Reserve has a Facebook page, and yes they do, and they also have an e commerce store w ww dot Linope Reserved dot com, So I can I can shop online? Yes, you can. So if it's a little just a little too warm for my delicacy. You know, I can just sit down. It'll come in the truck. Yes, but you want to come in our store and you want to look at it at least one time. You have to come and see what we have. So I'm just being lazy.
You don't. You don't getting the vaily will be either. Don't worry about that. Well, they like to touch before they buy. Well, you can come in chit chat all day. Well okay, that sounds like a good idea. And bring your friends, all right, and never shortage buy chit chat you know I'm talking about. I want to thank you both, Denny and Lawanna for being with us here with the Delaware Tribe of Indians. Appreciate you being with us here on our community connection
