Welcome, welcome, walk come, it's time for round two of our community connection right here on K one, the one you dressed him from Dewey. It's just Lorie. How you doing great? Laurie Heron is here with us, and Dewey is the happening place, Dewey, America, ladies and gentlemen. I was told that that it's now just one syllable, yes, sir, and some and some some circles it is. So what's going on these

days? Well? How was your fourth? It was really good. It was better than the fifth, better than the third, and much better than the third. Well, our fourth was pretty cool, it was I was a part of it. You were on the bear. Well, well, I was doing the radio and sheriff asked me. He says, if you want to sing, just let us know. And then I got a phone call said I had to go some pay tails, but otherwise I was gonna.

I was all ready to go. I was very honored that day, and mister Melton to ask that is there and I would have been upset. I didn't hear your voice because I was running around. Yeah, I didn't have for that. That was my first experience, and amazingly cute. They started off with the hydrant, letting the water go down, and gravity took its course and they made the small little rapids for the ducks and right on through sailed on. The first place took it was probably about oh, I

don't know this far apart, but it was. It was absolutely cool. The community came together even in that heat and stayed. The watermelon was cool. It was I have to admit I did try it. Yeah, I'm not a watermelon girl, but I was that night and it was It was refreshing and it was just it was just neat to see community come together, even in that heat, not late at night, so but it was worth it. Got flotilla of faux foul going down. Hooked, I'm hooked.

I filmed everybody walking down the river watching their ducks, so it was quite a sight. It was quite a sight. And then after that you have the fireworks and everybody you know walked away just thinking, wow, dude, is a cool place. The DCA definitely put on a good show this year, for sure. So it's just gonna get better and better every year, just you know, from COVID and then no water, so let us bring it back. Let's get the get the ducks back. Oh it was really

cool. I saw the friends of Dewey Park. They had their little ten out. We were and there do you guys do any bricking? I did. I was the one that was sent amongst the piers. Did some politicken, did seal some bricks, got some new businesses that might be coming into town, even them interested. So just doing what I do. So we have boots and badges. That's the first thing that's tomorrow. What's boots and boots and badges is celebrating the life well the life saving responders that we have

the blood drive boots and badges. Anyways, there's a trophy to get at the end. But the best part is if you can come out donate blood UH supports community support this first responders. But then also that you get a free t shirt of course, gots swag and you also get two free tickets to either Frontier City or six Flags excuse me, six Flags Hurricane Harbor podcast. That's a oh god, that'd be great. But it is at the

Dewey Public Schools Student Center right there on seventy five. You'll see it off to the off to your the north seventy five and it's from twelve pm to six and just make sure you eat something before you go in and hang out, donate blood, hang with your community, and you got to tell them which one you're supporting, right, I support both, sir? I mean, I mean when when we're donating blood? Oh individual does I think? So? Is that what they? I don't. I don't remember that part,

but I'm I can't tell you who I'm voting for. Okay, gotcha? All right? Well, next up we have so the second Saturday. Would we are still holding somewhat of a Second Saturday, There'll just be no events outside because it's the swelter completely, So everybody will have still sales that are participating in it. They'll still be sells inside their stores. One cool thing is that Randy is opening her one side of the Simple Simons, her

restaurant for some vendors to go on her that side. Nice, So there'll be some inside that if you want to check out Simple Signmons. I think starting around ten same time. But like, everybody still have their own sales, just nothing outside to to go through that hot sponge, yeah, Caul humidity and then right, well then after that you already talked about the Friends

of Dewey Parks. We have cementa has been poured and our yesterday morning at six am for the bathrooms, mister Trees was out there taking the boards down, checking out what's going on. Has a lot of a lot of to do with the Dowey Public Works, mister Trees do. Putting that bathroom together pretty cool. I'm thinking about all of the cool things that I've never seen. Concrete people poured, so I paid attention to ask questions and it was

pretty cool. Of course took pictures, I will tell you that much. But it's pretty cool to see what all facets that the public works can do, you know, especially I mean now they're doing a bathroom and so uh

so that's pretty cool. They also have their website finally, so we have Friends of Dewey Parks dot org and that where you can now go to find all of what's going on, how you can donate, what about the brigs, how you can buy a brick, and also far follow through what's going on in the happenings of our park, like the pictures of the bathroom. Yeah, I got to tell you, don Tyler Park is about one of the cleanest because John Tyler looked amazing. Public works, public works, and

you know, the playground equipment was nice. Plenty of rooms spread out so that you don't have to be on top of each other if your picnic and they're just enjoying the outdoors. You got a lot of a lot of space, a lot of rooms. And so imagine what's going to happen in the Lions Park downtown. Yeah, we're gonna have it's gonna be amazing. You know something. That park is a dandy as it is, but with these

new improvements coming up, it's going to be a mussy. And it's one of those things where folks kind of they go, oh, I didn't know there was a park, fact there behind the behind the downtown facades, and then it's like it's a darn nice little park. So get these second saturdays

going, yeah, and familiarize yourself with it. And then and so that we can have downtown more things can be focused and everybody, you know, take a break, a little hub to eat, you know, because we have food truck pads, and you know it'll be it'll be awesome, lovely green space and a lovely small town exactly. I mean, that's America. Exactly, and it's next to the library. It Ismoral Library. What they have going on will be the soonest would be the Rummage sell, which is

August eighth through the tenth. Miss Jordan the library and ask that you please give them a call before you donate, just or drop off, just so that she can guide either where these pieces go or not. But other than that, that's duey sir. That is man. I gotta tell you an awkward nutshell. Well, I got to tell you it's a beautiful town. I always have fun up there. We had a blast on the fourth of

July. I always have a fun when it gets around the Christmas holidays too, but always in between there are different opportunities for you to take in the sites. We have a couple of historic places where folks could go visit and when you get done, do a little light shopping do it, do a little heavy eating and heavy shopping there you go either way? What am I talking about? Either way? And then we'll just have more places for everybody to enjoy. Oh indeed, and it's laid out nicely. I mean you

can't get lost. I mean you have to try pretty hard to get lost, and you do. Is just Cross seventy five to keep it going because we have everything at the other end. Yeah, you do, you do, you know, you have to some relatively new businesses. You got that new pharmacy that yes, creative health. Yeah health, and it's it's it's it's definitely. She's done some improvements inside from when I was a little girl going in there, so it looks pretty cool from just you know, bringing

it up to date and modernized, especially no as medicine it goes. But Ashley's doing a great job over there. We have some craft people, people who do some handy, really cool woodwork, and it's up there in Dewey. We have all kinds of antiquers. What is it an antique proprietor or there's a special name for antique f folks not old because of not old. These are young people who deal with antiques. They I mean sell a lot

every week. And linger Longer is one of the it's just one of the most one that I go to first just because it has the ice cream. But I I literally went there two days, three days after my son was born and brought my mom who's from Vegas, and that's where she wanted to go and That's that's where they wanted to go there and again talk about summers and Christmases here. That was just where I hung out linger longer, all the antique stores, Tom Mixed Museum, the Dewey Hotel. So I can't

wait for the park. This park is really going to be the icing on the cake. It really is. Now. If folks want to find out what's going on in the city of do you have the city websites. It's very very functioned, very easy to fallow. Yes, but in the city. Facebook probably has a little bit more and more more up to date stuff. But there's a calendar on the website that they keep abreast of all the new stuff too. All right, if you want to find out what's going

on in Doy, just go to the Facebook page. Also go to their website, or just say hey, Laurie, what's happening. She'll tell you call up city hall and you can get a hold of me. There you go, Hey, thanks for being with us today. It's always a pleasure.
