Yeah, morning, good morning and working and welcome, welcome, welcome, meeting. Set time now for our community connection right here on K one, the one you trust. We're talking big brothers, big sisters and big fun because bowling for Kid's Sake is a big deal around here. How are you doing, Charlene, I'm good. Thank you. You brought friends. I did. I brought with us our Both for Kid's Sake twenty twenty four event chair of Kathy Romsburg. How you doing, Kathy? Fantastic, Good to
see you again. Thanks, And I got to tell you this is a lot of fun. This is the season to be rocking those pins and raising some money for Big Brothers, Big Sisters. It is We always look forward to both for Kid's Sake. It's our largest annual fundraiser and we're looking for eighty eight teams. This year we were on the comeback from the COVID, so we're over that now. So we've got got space at the Red Apple and at the Phillips sixty six lanes for the Phillips for the Phillips and conical
Phillips employees. Yeah, their teams, like a lot of them like to bowl at the p sixty six lanes and then the Red Apple. We've got two squads, one on Thursday, March the seventh and one on Friday, March the eighth. Now we keep asking why are we talking about this in early there's a reason for that. We needed teams we do. The registration is this month and our early birds the eighteenth, right, So our early bird resentation to get the most prizes and things is by the eighteenth, but
the registration is due by the end of the month. So it's very important that we get all the teams by the end of the month. Alrighty, and how do we how do once we get our teams in agreement, how do sign up? Well, the first thing you need is team captain. So the team captain needs to go out and register the team, and before the eighteenth of January, those team captains will be entered into a drawing for a one hundred dollars visa car. Nice, right, And so you want
to be one of the early burdens. And then once the team captain has registered their team, then they can invite five other people to join them and those people just go out and join that team. And we need all If your team is totally registered with six people and by January thirty first then everybody on the team is in a drawing for one hundred dollars visa car. Well, Kathy, sounds like it's too much fun, and that's all the first
bold starts. It is fun. It's you know, the thing that I enjoy about the most, besides obviously giving to a good cause, is it's a fun time that you can go do with your friends, with your coworker, with your church group, with any organization. I mean, you can just gather up some people. You don't even have to like bowling. It's just fun to be there and in the atmosphere. I mean, I'm not
a great bowler, but I sure like doing it. It's fun. We have a great time and we went around us in the lanes are having a great time. So some of them develop a trick shots. That's true. I've been I've been told on good authority that some of these shots are actually quite effective and fun. Get the get the somebody to kind of roll it backwards where they're back and facing the pins, and they got a hike it there between their legs and roller down the I've seen the strikes done, not
very many often. It is funny to watch. The hot might not be high at all, but the vast majority of people who participate in the fact I have all of the people who participate in both for kid's sake or not regular bowlers. No, so don't be worried. Don't be worried. We give you a score of one hundred, so don't worry about that. That's what I always aim for, three digits one hundred. But it is a
lot of fun. And Kathy said, you know, it can be your work group, it can be a church group, an organization belonged to, or just a group of friends, your bunko group, your book group, your book club, people that you just want to go out and have some fun with for the evening and support the cause of one to one Mentoring because
this is our largest fundraiser. Our goal is one hundred and fifty five to five for this year and we have our matching gifts again from the company's Conical Phillips, Phillips sixty six, Chevron, Phillips and one Gas are the main companies that match, but we also have a wonderful community organization business that once again is doing our community match, which means that everyone is that that is
not eligible for a company program. Matching program is if with a donation of twenty five dollars or more doubles so they will match it up to thirty thousand dollars. So yeah, it's a it's an awesome blessing. Matching money is just tremendous blessing from those companies. And so we really just encourage everyone to get out there, do your minimum twenty five dollars donation and that will double to help your the bowler that you're supporting to reach their goals. So to
make it happen, ready to work twice. I like that now, Kathy. I got to ask you this. You know, you got a lot going on. Yeah, and then somebody said, hey, let's have some fun, let's do let's do both for kid's sake. Was that an easy yes? Well, I have fucked, I have bowled, I've been a captain. I bowl with the Phillips seems since I've worked. I work at
Phillips now. And so I had been asked, hey, Charlene's probably gonna you know, your name got thrown around and so she might be calling you pretty soon, and I was like, okay, So I was kind of prepared for it. It wasn't like totally all the blue, but honestly, I do feel like I am from here originally, and so I feel like this one on one mentoring program that the Big Sisters or Big Brothers Big Sisters offers is such an empowering and strengthening base for the youth. And the youth
really is the future. And so I love this community, and I love being back in Bartlesville, and I love being part of things like this that really help the community thrive. And I honestly think that this one on one relationship building mentoring program helps these youth be more strong, be more empowered, and it just helps It just helps them the long run for the future. Well, I don't think we have to convince you, do we charly tell us it was a he saws out, not to even twist any arms.
Hey, Kathy Man, Well, we're really excited to have Kathy as a voice for the campaign, and we're hoping that, you know, people will get their teams registered and start raising money. We have a tailgate party and the board is hosting a tailgate party at Cooper and Mill on January twentieth,
and so all of the team captains. All of the team members that are registered by the eighteenth are invited, and the public is invited and come down find out more about Big Brothers, Speak Sisters and both for kid's sake, sign up your team on the on site. Oh wow, so we're real pleased with that. Will have door prizes and such fun things. Well, there you go, still being planned, but still being planned. I like that. You're going to be surprised, folks, and you've gotta like it.
Yes, it's two weeks out. You know, we're not in the elemath are yet. It's all good Watcher Watcher, She's KG watcher, but now with Big Brothers, Big Sisters. The big idea behind this, of course, is, as we mentioned, one on one mentoring with the with youngsters who really could use an adult mentor that shows them, you know, how life can be through a different prism, through a different lens. Right.
We served sixty four children last year in match in one to one matches with a mentor, and our goal this year is to add thirty six more matches new matches to that mix. And we have over thirty kids waiting right now, with another probably five or six in the enrollment process. So we really do. Our target is men or couples to match with boys, because that's what we have the most of, but we always need big sisters as well. We have of the kids that are waiting, I think thirteen or
girls. The rest are boys. Okay, very good. And if they want to know more about becoming a mentor, not only can they go to the website, but they can just pick up the phone and call you. She answers the phone. I person first call. I do answer the phone. The The website is Bigoklahoma dot org and my phone number is nine one eight two one three four five two four. All right, very easy to
remember, and I want you to commit that to memory. And I want you to also uh uh get yourself with a bunch of friends and get ready to have a good time with both for kid's sake. And also on the website, you've got the just a big section there that goes to it's really its own website. For me. Yes, it's uh BFKS, so think Bowl for Kid's Sake so BFKS Bartlesville dot org. And there really are two
ways to participate. We've been talking a lot this morning about getting a Bowl team together, but we also have virtual fundraisers and virtual and that last year we had eight, our goal this year's ten. We are people who just said, you know, I love the cause, I love the mission, I want to I want to support it, but but for whatever reason, bowling or team isn't kind of where they're at. And so they sign up
as a team of one, a virtual team of one. They use that virtual pled sheet to ask the people that in their network to join them and supporting Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and they raise money for the organization and
they they yes, they it's so cool that they can do that. So there are lots there are people who are like, you know, I'm over bowling, or I can't bowl for bowling's over me, or you know, the team, I don't think I have time for that or whatever, but they want to support and I would encourage them to go out register as a fundraising team of one and in their team name, just put the word virtual and we'll know that and go ahead and help us raise money because that is
an important piece as well. Last year very good. There's gonna be a lot of fun, isn't it. That's right, no pressure. Hey, The best part about it is it's indoors. And I mean at today's weather. I know in March it snowed before, so this is not an outdoor event. Is the best part. It's all indoors. It's all indoors. You're going to stay dry, you're going to stay warm, and you're going
to have the company of good friends and friends you've not met yet. You know a lot of people that when they get involved in a big thing like that, and the next thing you know, you know, you're you're seeing people that you haven't seen for a long time or you've never met them. Next thing you know, you got new friends. It is a it is a great thing, and it's for a great cause. It's for big brothers, big sisters. And I want to thank you both for being here with
us today. And I want you to be very careful out there. For surely, oh I will be. I know that cannot break anything in the first quarter. There are rules including you. There are rules about health in the first quarter of the area. Well, good luck, and then we're gonna spread the word. We'll put the story out there on the website here in just a little bit, and we'll make sure that this of course video stays live for a good long time and we'll also put out the podcast as
well well. Thank you and we appreciate the opportunity. Well, next time you feel like having some fun, just drop on BUYE. You know we're always open for that. I think I have another appointment with you, pretty sure, because it is national mentoring, see it is. It is all right, thanks again once again our community.
