Cloud computing is an information and communications technology in which service providers take charge of storing data; the consumer needs only to have a personal computer and access to the internet—or the cloud. Terra Verde looks into the ecological implications of keeping the cloud afloat in the real world. We delve into the very physical nature of the internet with Gary Cook from Greenpeace International, co-author of “Make IT Green,” a report about cloud computing’s contribution to climate change, and Alexander Wissner-Gross, Research Affiliate at the MIT Media Laboratory and founder of CO2Stats.com, a project to help businesses monitor and reduce the environmental impact of their websites.
