Chevron on Trial: Bowoto v. Chevron The environmental damage caused by the oil industry in the Niger Delta is well documented as are the heavy-handed tactics used by the Nigerian military to suppress people’s demands for the oil companies to clean up their legacy of pollution and also share the oil revenues. San Ramon-based Chevron is being sued in a US court for its alleged role in the suppression of human rights in Nigeria.
