Episode description

Veterans Healing PTSD Together. “They taught me that I could hurt somebody and I don’t want to hurt anybody.” Veteran Jim Swazye. Six white Vietnam Vets, disabled by their military service, talk about PTSD. They discuss anger and helping each other, as well as reaching out to other vets trapped in rage and shame.   As the national discussion of the 26 senseless killings in Connecticut seethes on, these men continue to walk their winding and often arduous path to peace. Guests: Sunny Campbell, Larry Kozlowski, Jim O’Neil, Jim Swasey, Kerry Oswald, Steve Weigert, & Patrick Reilly, PhD. The veterans are part of an anger management group at the Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Santa Rosa, CA. That clinic is a satellite of the San Francisco Veteran’s Medical Center. Hosted by Shelley Berman. Produced by Steve Howdyshell and Shelley Berman. Editing help from Sheela Gunn-Cushman & Adrienne Lauby. This program is dedicated to Dylan Hockley, a Special Needs Student, and Anne Marie Murphy, a Special Education Teacher both of whom were killed at the Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012 Patrick Reilly is the director of Mental Health for the Santa Rosa Clinic.
