Pushing Limits – January 18, 2008

Some homeless people with disabilities are finding homes, even in today’s crowded, high-rent housing market.  On Friday, Jan. 18 at 2:30 pm on KPFA, host Adrienne Lauby interviews Butch Cooley and Paul Hamilton of the Leg Up Project in Grand Junction, Colorado.These two formerly homeless men housed twenty-eight people in three months.  Cooley and Hamilton speak honestly of relating to landlords and drug and alcohol addictions, as well as the pleasure of four walls and a lock on the door. We also talk to Robert Long and Debbie Robinson of Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (B.O.S.S.), two long-time local homeless advocates. They develop relationships with landlords and currently guarantee homes to anyone with a standard fixed income. Part 3 of the "Homelessness and Disability Series."
