Episode description

Rufus – Then and NowStories of life with a mental disability – then and now. Adrienne Lauby speaks with Nora Ryerson. The program includes excerpts of the story “Rufus” from the book “Sex in the Ancient Word” by Alice Ryerson Hayes with original cello music by Claribel Cone. We speak of the stigma of mental disabilities and the treatment of those with this disability from a personal point of view. “Rufus” is a poignant family story from the mid-1900s. It both contrasts with and echoes the stories of individuals currently utilizing the Center for Creative Growth in Berkeley. The post Pushing Limits – April 18, 2008 appeared first on KPFA.
