[SPEAKER_00]: This is a news.com newsflash. [SPEAKER_00]: If we don't put a stake into the heart of this administration, there may not be an election in twenty twenty-eight, Newsom said. [SPEAKER_00]: We are committed to this process, he added. [SPEAKER_00]: This is not a bluff. [SPEAKER_00]: Currently, Republicans control two hundred twenty seats in the House, while Democrats hold two hundred twelve, down from two hundred fifteen following the recent deaths of three Democratic representatives.

[SPEAKER_00]: Texas, with thirty eight congressional districts, is dominated by Republicans, who hold twenty five seats. [SPEAKER_00]: California is the only state with more districts, leaning left with forty-three of its fifty-two seats held by Democrats. [SPEAKER_00]: The party also has super majorities in both chambers of the California legislature.

[SPEAKER_00]: Texas Republicans are preparing to redraw their congressional match to strengthen their majority, a rare mid-decade move, reportedly at the request of President Donald Trump. [SPEAKER_00]: House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed the plan in an interview with CBS News. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm absolutely convinced we're going to grow the House Majority, he said.

[SPEAKER_00]: It's not groundless optimism, it's going to be the result of a lot of hard work, the fact that we're delivering on our promises to the people. [SPEAKER_00]: Before making his public statement, Newsom met privately with six Democratic legislators from Texas, including state representative Rafael Anika Dallas.

[SPEAKER_00]: In trying to do this, it is going to cause great harm not only to the people that we represent, to the voters of the state of Texas, but also potentially to all Americans, Anika said, referring to Republican redistricting efforts. [SPEAKER_00]: Now it's snowing. [SPEAKER_00]: Unfilter. [SPEAKER_00]: Unfilter.
