[SPEAKER_00]: News.com has learned that the hearing focused on how Democratic-led state's handle immigration enforcement, particularly regarding their refusal to cooperate with federal immigration authorities in civil cases. [SPEAKER_00]: Tensions escalated when represented a green question Hatchel's political affiliation, asking, you stated that you're a proud registered Democrat.

[SPEAKER_00]: To which Hatchel responded with a jab, saying, yes, is that illegal now, too, in your country? [SPEAKER_00]: Green, momentarily amused, replied with, this is not a laughing matter. [SPEAKER_00]: The exchange grew more intense when Green referenced the murder of Black and Rather, a Georgian nursing student allegedly killed by a Venezuelan national who had previously been released in New York.

[SPEAKER_00]: While talking about the death of Rather, Representative Green accused Governor Hatchel were being complicit in the murder. [SPEAKER_00]: Saying, this little girl would be alive today if you weren't such a treasonous governor supporting sanctuary laws. [SPEAKER_00]: The Department of Justice should prosecute you for her murder. [SPEAKER_00]: She also accused Hotral of smiling during the exchange to which the governor pushed back firmly. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm thinking about her parents.

[SPEAKER_00]: Don't question how I look. [SPEAKER_00]: My heart is breaking for her parents, she said. [SPEAKER_00]: The hearing was part of a broader effort by the Republican-led committee, chaired by Representative James Comer, our KY. [SPEAKER_00]: To challenge the legality and safety of sanctuary jurisdictions, I.E. [SPEAKER_00]: states are cities that limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, particularly on civil matters.

[SPEAKER_00]: During the hearing, Republican lawmakers highlighted violent crimes allegedly committed by undocumented immigrants. [SPEAKER_00]: Hotual, according to reports, defended her state's policies and condemned the Trump administration's decision to deploy national guard troops to Los Angeles in response to protests. [SPEAKER_00]: She said, as we speak, an American city has been militarized over the objections of their governor.

[SPEAKER_00]: At the outset, I just want to say that this is a flagrant abuse of power. [SPEAKER_00]: According to reports, some of the most heated moments of the hearing occurred between Hatchel and Republican lawmakers from her own state of New York. [SPEAKER_00]: Representative Elise Tefani, who has been touted as a potential candidate for New York Governor in twenty twenty six, cited cases in which she claimed individuals were assaulted and even burned a line by immigrants.

[SPEAKER_00]: He had entered or remained in the US without legal authorization. [SPEAKER_00]: In response, Governor Hatchel said the crimes were horrific and heartbreaking, and insisted that we cooperate with ICE. [SPEAKER_00]: We cooperate with law enforcement and criminal cases.
