The growth of God’s Kingdom doesn’t always happen in the way we expect; our hopes and experiences can often be misaligned. Using 2 very short parables at the end of Mark 4 we look at 4 principles about the way that God’s Kingdom grows, and how we can be a part of it.
Many of us have heard the phrase ‘A house divided cannot stand’ – but what did Jesus mean by it? What has it got to do with the ‘blasphemy against the Holy Spirit’? And why does Jesus describe himself as binding a strong man and plundering his house?
Today we start our series on the parables in Marks gospel. We begin with the well-known Parable of the Sower. This parable encourages us to sow the good news generously as the farmer does but it also shines a light on the things that can crowd out the word of God from our hearts, particularly worries, wealth and wants. Do we have ears to hear and hearts that receive and live out the word?
We finish our Steadfast Love series by looking at the scandal of forgiveness in the story of Jonah. The most offensive thing about the gospel is not who gets excluded; it’s who gets included.
Over the last two weeks, we witnessed Jonah's hesitation and reluctance to fulfill God's call to go. This week, we will explore the lessons we can learn from Jonah's journey, applying them to our own experiences of stepping out in obedience on our journey of going.

How do we deal with the ups and downs of life? How do we respond? A look at the life of Jonah, especially his time in the belly of the fish, gives us a real insight to these questions as we process the highs and lows.
Jonah is a very familiar book that is often simplified as a moral or miracle tale but there’s much more going on in this short book. In Chapter 1 there are a number of surprises including Jonah saying no to God asking him to go to his enemies and the pagan sailors responding to the God of Israel. Only Jesus the one greater than Jonah can perfectly fulfil Gods mission however he entrusts that mission to us. He calls us to go and tell too!
Repentance is not just concerned with taking away bad things, but with giving us good things. In the final section of Hosea, Andrew shows us what positive repentance looks like.
God’s relationship with Israel is not just that of a faithful husband to an immoral wife, but that of a lovestruck and affectionate Father to a wayward child. Hosea’s generation needed to know the Father’s steadfast love for them—and so do we.

Once again we see in Hosea 8&9 that Isreal have been a people unfaithful to God and have broken their convent with him. As a result they receive God’s judgement. How do we respond to passages like this in scripture? How should we view them in light of Jesus? We will explore that together.
We all know the difference between a genuine relationship and a superficial one. God loves his people and desires to have a genuine relationship with them, so in this sermon, looking at Hosea 6, we explore what a genuine relationship with God looks like and how we can have that type of relationship with Him.
