Episode description

God: God longs to dwell with his people. Through Haggai, God calls the people to build his house and not just focus on their own houses. Why does God care so much? Because he longs to dwell with his people (1:1-11). The rebuilt temple is disappointing, but God promises a great future temple (2:1-9). The Gospel: God makes promises to Zerubabbel, part of the royal line of David. This reaffirms the promises made to David (2 Sam. 7:4-17). Is Zerubabbel the promised king and temple builder? No. The true king and greater temple builder doesn’t arrive for another 500 years – Jesus.
