Oh man. This was probably the hardest one we've done so far. There's very little going on in this weeks movie, THE DIARY OF ELLEN RIMBAUER. If you saw Rose Red and thought to yourself, "I wish all these flashback scene were compiled into it's own movie without adding anything new", you're in luck. It's crazy that this even got made. But it's ok cause we talk about Toto's Africa for quite a bit. Rate/review/subscribe to King Me on iTunes: itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/king-…d1071620322?mt=2 Support...

I Duddits! This week we're joined by Melissa Jouben to talk about the insane DREAMCATCHER. This is based on a book that Stephen king himself doesn't like. There's a group of kids with powers and aliens that come out of peoples butts and everyone farts real loud and everyone loves Mighty Mouse and Scooby Doo. This movie is just a run on sentence by an 8 year old from 1965. Rate/review/subscribe to King Me on iTunes: itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/king-…d1071620322?mt=2 Support the show and access ou...

We're going back to our roots for the first of two Carrie remakes coming up. This Carrie from 2002 is a TV movie that seemingly goes out of its way to flatten the symbolism of the original--which is weird, considering it's written by Bryan Fuller of American Gods, Pushing Daisies, and Hannibal fame. (Fucking Hannibal!) To its credit, TV Carrie avoids the mistake Brian De Palma made of spinning the camera around and spending, like, three hours on unfunny teen boys trying on tuxedos. This ain't your grandpa's mangler. This week we're joined by JC HENDRICKS to talk about the MANGLER 2. This really is one of the dumbest movies we've watched but it was a lot of fun to talk about. Dan thinks it's right up there with Shawshank as being one of the best King movies ever. With off screen kills and plot points that go nowhere, this truly is a Mangler for the ages. We got shirts! Another goddamn miniseries. Rose Red is the story of a house that is mean. If you try to go in it, you'll get some bees on you. We follow a ragtag team of psychic misfits, one of whom is Emily Deschanel, as they try to help a professor preserve her academic integrity by engaging in a ghost hunt. We learned a lot from this one--most notably, that Gavin Belson from Silicon Valley used to be fat. ALSO IN THIS EPISODE: Fun with Rimbauer We got shirts! As suggested by listener & patreon donor Tyto Pollens, this week is a special detour episode that we're calling POP OF THE KING. In 1997, Stephen King teamed up with his long-time film collaborator Mick Garris--as well as the King of Pop, Michael Jackson--to write an extremely autobiographical haunted house story for Jackson to star in. Special effects legend Stan Winston directs Jackson as he plays dual roles and makes many uncomfortable, overt references to the child abuse allegations that...

GET ME MOONFACE! That's right: it's David Morse back up in it with HEARTS IN ATLANTIS. He's not actually in it all that much but it's nice to see his big face. This movie is on the boring side of King movies so we have a hard time staying on topic. But that's fun right? Also Rob is baffled by the most basic hair and makeup disguise. The sixth installment in the CHILDREN OF THE CORN franchise returns the series to its roots...sort of? Inasmuch as a character from the first one is back? Other than that, this one's about as faithful as the other four sequels. There's a prophecy now, it's cool to be an adult, and there's ZERO corn. There's no accounting for why SOMETIMES THEY COME BACK spawned two sequels, and there's certainly no explaining why the third installment, SOMETIMES THEY COME BACK...FOR MORE, is a knockoff of John Carpenter's THE THING. But here we are. Something of a spiritual sequel, SOMETIMES THEY COME BACK...FOR MORE takes into account the source material of the first two, and then just mostly ignores it. They say that horror films reflect the anxiety of the time, and if that's true, people in 1997 must have hated poisonous gas. TRUCKS is the second adaptation of the Stephen King short story that also served as the foundation of the surprisingly uneventful MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE. We'll do a bit of comparison, while also giving TRUCKS its due for being totally unwatchable in its own right. The saving grace? A precocious young hazmat suit. Also in this episode: MASH spoilers

We're taking a slight detour to break up the monotony of shoestring budget Stephen King adaptations from the late '90s, and exploring the King family tree. Stephen King's son, Joe Hill, is a novelist and acclaimed comic book writer in his own right, and in 2013 his novel HORNS was adapted for film. An attempt at an Americanized magical realism, HORNS is packed with supernatural goings-on, religious imagery, and flimsy female characters. It is, undeniably, something. No, not THAT The Shining. That was The Shining. This is STEPHEN KING'S The Shining. Stephen King was famously displeased with Stanley Kubrick's 1980 adaptation of his book about hotels and the souls they devour. Apparently King felt that 17 years was all it took for the public to forget one of the most beloved horror films of all time, and set about EPing a miniseries adaptation of his classic novel. Directed by Mick Garris, and starring Steven Weber and Rebecca de Mornay as Jack and Wendy Torre...

The first plot twist of Quicksilver Highway is learning that there's a movie called Quicksilver Highway. Another "horror titan" team-up anthology, Quicksilver Highway takes stories from both Stephen King and Clive The Hellraiser Guy Barker. When comedian/host of Callin' the Shots Taylor Allen chose to come on the show for the THINNER episode, he might have known the movie itself would be good, but he probably didn't know how badly Rob and Dan needed it after the past few weeks of schlock. Thinner is everything we're looking for in a Stephen King movie: scenery-chewing performances, the state of Maine, a Stephen King cameo, and no bloated mythology that tries to justify the movie's existence.
