I think so many of us don't notice it. Myself included, I don't really pay that close attention and probably things align more than I realize. And you'll say to me, Emily, that was serendipity right there, or that's the universe telling you something, you know? And I think a lot of us just don't notice. We're not looking for it or not aware, or don't maybe understand really what it is. Yeah, I think the universe is always speaking to us, but we're not all listening. MUSIC Are we doing this?
I think we are. OK, welcome to Keep It Good. I'm your host, Emily. And I'm your host, Carly. So basically each week, we're going to be covering topics from parenting to relationships, spirituality, even our newest health adventures. Between the last and the lessons, we hope to share with you guys. We want to leave you inspired and wanting to come back and sit with us and hear some more on topics that we know everybody is curious about. And maybe you just want to hear more.
So why are we doing this? Why did we create a podcast? So we have always been pretty aligned in our beliefs in raising our kids' health, you know, the quest that we're on as adults or with our own children, trying to stay healthy is really important to your family and to mine. And we're always in to try something new, husbands included. So I think that's really what sparked it, just having that time together. And we decided being part-time working mommies and having a little extra space.
What can we fill it with? And I think a lot of people want to hear more information on certain topics. Maybe they don't want to research it or they just want to have a friend conversation. And here it is. We will be able to talk about all things, maybe some heavy, some lighter, some funny. But I think that's kind of how it began, was our trust in each other and in the process of the universe speaking to us and telling us this might be a good idea and something fun.
Yeah, I mean, I would have never. I don't listen, I'm not a podcast kind of girl. Oh, I love them, love them. Yeah, you're the one who got me hooked on it. And, but one thing I do love is inspiring people, giving advice, even though sometimes I don't take my own advice, which I'm working on. And for me, I mean, I'm a nurse. So my day to day is very much not the typical. We deal with very heavy things and I've experienced so much already.
I think just being able to see all sides of life, I have a lot of little hidden knowledge and so do you. And together, I think we can share and kind of uplift and inspire people to just get out of their normal routine day to day. Yeah, yeah. Right, well, that's the whole point of this podcast is to, you know, we're gonna talk all things, right? We're gonna talk things. A lot of things, we got a big list. The good, the bad, the ugly, the funny.
Yeah, exactly. So I think, I hope our friendship shines in this as well because it's funny. The stuff we end up talking about. So basically, us starting this was definitely the universe telling us it was serendipitous. It was meant to be. So we're gonna give it a go. So why don't you explain to everyone what serendipity really is and how to find it? What does that look like? So, I mean, it's a combination of a few things.
It's the unexpectedness, connection and really letting yourself be open to it. It could be very simple things. You know, we were on the beach one time and the beach was miles and miles long. My husband and the kids were down the boardwalk. We didn't have our phones at that time because mine was on the beach somewhere. I was walking towards the bathroom and we knew we were meeting up.
We just didn't know where we were meeting and it just so happened that I turned the corner right when they got off the trolley. And it was like, oh my, like little things like that. It doesn't have to be so, you know, that was a very minor thing, but it could be anything. It's the most magical little spark that seems so unreal that it's so perfect timing. You just have to, you can see it everywhere.
You were telling me about the time when you were like, well, I don't really know what serendipity is. And I said, well, how did you meet Matt? And then your whole story about getting a flat tire and he just happened to be working that night and then he pulled over and helped you. Like timing is everything. That's serendipity, you know? Right, 100%.
I think what's neat about it too is it is very, it could be minuscule like that, like, you know, seeing, you know, meeting your husband and children just the exact right time. That's so many people pass that by, but if you are aware of it, that can make your day. You know that the universe is on your side and it's working for you, you know, not everything is against you or especially if you're having a bad day.
If you're just open to being aware of these little, like you said, sparks of magic, that could really change how you feel for the day. Yeah, it's like a, it's connecting all those random dots and I believe everything happens for a reason, everything. I mean, the smallest thing, like I'll, I've really gotten into the practice of like, if you're late for work, you forget your keys or something, you know, you're rushing and stuff.
And I always just look and say, okay, thank you, because at one point or another, like who's to say that didn't save me from getting into a car accident, you know, me forgetting my keys and running late. Everything is literally for your favor, for your better, you know, outcome, for your highest good. So for me, like back to that day that we got together on 10, 10, like, it just shows up at my house. We haven't seen each other in a few months.
We hardly ever really spent one-on-one without the kids, you know, long time. Right. And our conversation just went from one thing to the next. We realized how much we had in common, how much passion we had with kind of educating people on a healthier mindset and lifestyle for our kids, not only for our kids, but for ourselves. That's when she said, what do you think about a podcast? And I laughed and I was like, I don't know about that. I don't really like the sound of my voice.
Well, it is what it is. Why the fuck not? We looked at each other and said, why the fuck not? I mean, we have one life. Who cares if it's a flop, it's a flop. Hopefully we can really inspire people and open their eyes to some magic or some new kind of health venture that we've been discovering because we've been down rabbit holes left and right. Oh yeah. I don't know if it's midlife crisis or... Well, hopefully we're not quite midlife yet, but yeah, maybe there's a little bit of that.
But I mean, I think there's a lot to talk about and maybe things that we want to, I guess, ignite something, maybe something you never thought about or something to try or implement in your relationship. Try something new with your kids. And it really came down to us just like, wow, we kind of have a lot to say. I don't know if anyone wants to listen, but...
Yeah, even if it's one person who learns about the fine gold diet, which is one topic I'll be getting buried into because that's a huge passion of mine for ADHD kids, like just that one person, if we change that one person's life, they made their kids incredible. I mean, who cares? That's one person that didn't have the knowledge beforehand. Absolutely. Well, and going back to why the fuck not when we decided let's just give this a try. Why not try something new in general?
Start taking a yoga class or learn French or start crocheting. Just try something new. It doesn't hurt. Give yourself a goal. I'm gonna read 30 books this year or whatever that might be. Why not? Give it a go. We all have that inner voice that's like, no, I don't know if I could do that. You kind of talk yourself out of it before you even try. 100%. I think this year our goal, not only just us two, but for our listeners, that's really what we wanna set in motion.
What is it that scares you, but you really wanna try it, just do it. Hopefully us, this is way outside our comfort zone. Way. 100%. Yes. I'm creative. I love art and writing, but now I've never done anything like this. I sleep. So do you believe in like a higher power that kind of nudges you in a certain direction? I do.
I think I always have and I want to, but I don't know again, like if I really through the years have paid attention, I've tried to be more present and aware over the past couple years, maybe a little more so since I've been a mom, but just because life is busy and crazy and so unexpected, but- It's so easy to miss the sciences. It really is. So yes, I definitely, I believe in angels.
I believe in, I do believe in the universe, basically what it all is, but in talking to you and being around you more, I'm trying my best to be more aware of it. Yeah, and just more open. Yeah, and I obviously, I know you do. You're like our friends that, like not to be silly, but kind of like, we call you the witch doctor. You're like the breath of fresh air, you know what I mean? Positive and you have all the good vibes. So you're always like, the universe will take care of it.
Oh, you can't do that. Oh, just, it'll happen. I know that it's gonna come true or this is gonna happen or this job will be when I think when you have that vibe too, and that higher energy, it does, it works out. You just have to trust. I have full trust that the universe, God, whoever you believe in, you just have to have full trust that they have your back, no matter what.
Even in the shittiest situations, like there's still one situation that I'm like, all right, I'm just waiting to see what that one was all about, you know? Cause I know it happened for a reason. I just haven't seen it yet, but. Right, well, and it probably, yeah, won't come quick. Not all things will be right away where you might understand the reasoning for it. Oh yeah, patience is a virtue, but for the most part, you mean rejection is really redirection. I love that saying.
Okay. What you think is a rejection from the universe, like, oh man, I didn't get that job or this kid broke up with me, whatever. You're devastated in the moment, but when you give it time, it's because your true soulmate came or your true job came, and you wouldn't have gotten that opportunity if you didn't go for it or didn't get rejected in the first place, because you wouldn't be open to it. You'd be stuck in that lame ass job. You'd be stuck with that jerk, you know?
Because you didn't get rejected. So why would you leave? You love him, you think you do, but it's, you really have to open your eyes to just being like, no, they know whoever's up there, God, Buddha. There's a plan for whoever you believe in. They know what's going on, and they have a better plan in store for you. That's why I was like, all right, you know, I think I will take the sleep of faith because I have a lot to say. And like, I feel like I'm an open book with a lot of unread chapters.
Yeah. You can only share so much about yourself on a day to day, on the weekly, like small conversations that you have at parties and such, but I really think that this is something special. And I'm excited to see where this goes for us. Me too. I'm so excited. I'm so excited for them too, because I really feel like we're about to change a lot of people's lives in the most innocent kind of way. Right.
Even if it's just learning a few tricks here and there from us, like mom hacks, we got a bunch of mom hacks to throw at you. Oh yeah. And well, and that's just it.
It's just like, you know, we come from a big group of friends and it's incredible, but since we've all gotten older and have families and children and whatnot, it's, you know, the time isn't there to have like those deep conversations or, you know, you're not calling them on, you know, weekdays and checking in and having like a full phone conversation like it used to be.
So this will be your little taste of like getting a little friend time, maybe a little advice, maybe on something you didn't even realize you had a question on. But we have so many things to chat about. Long list. Long list. I'm excited to get started. Me too. I'm excited for you listeners, because I got a lot of little magical things to share. Yeah. And yeah. So I, each week I want to leave you with either a quote or read from my car deck.
I have a whole bunch of little tricks, but this one I absolutely love. And it kind of coincides with everything that we want to kind of, you know, just wrap up in this one little first episode, but it's from Mary Oliver. It's from a book that I read. And they had it kind of throughout the book. And I was like, oh my God, this is exactly like, why the fuck not? You know, so it's, it was like this, tell me what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? You only get one, right?
One life. So why not do something that you, you really have been dying to do? Why not take that leap? If you fail, you fail, that's fine. But at least you know that you tried and you don't have that regret. And you learn from it one way or another, even if you fail, you learn. And you grow stronger and smarter. I want you to think about it for the next week. Like you have one life. What are you gonna do with it? That's great. I think that was a perfect way to end this episode.
So moving forward with your life this week, no matter what is thrown at you, I want you to keep in mind, keep it good. I'll see you on Sunday morning.
