Transcript

You've made it through some of the hardest times in your life. You didn't think you could. And what kind of a person do you want to start being in the future? What motivates you? What inspires you? Do a little bit of shadow work. Shadow work is really important to kind of dig deep and see things you could change about yourself, things that you love about yourself, all of the above. Welcome back to Keep It Good. I'm your host Carly. And I'm your host Emily. Today we are going to

be playing 21 Questions. Not the 50 cent version. We looked into that. It was a little vulgar. Yeah, a little inappropriate and I don't want to answer those questions in front of my mother -in -law or my own mother. So we're gonna play our own version. You'll get to know us a little bit and then maybe even learn a little bit more about yourself in the end. I think it's gonna be fun. I think so too. Yeah, and I don't know what Emily wrote or vice versa or these are kind

of off the cuff. So off the cuff for sure. Let's see. Okay. All right. So starting off, what did you want to be when you grew up? So when I was little, little, little, I wanted to be a nurse. And then I realized like how much bodily fluid things I would have to do. And I said, no, thank you. And then I wanted to be a detective. Oh, I wanted to like, yeah, solve crimes, all that fun stuff. But, you know, how the beauty industry kind of took me in in middle school and here

I am. So left field, way left fields. Very, very good. What about you? What did you want to be? I wanted to be in like musical theater or acting or anything like that. I used to do these educational movies when I was little growing up. My mom would drop me off the studio and I'd do these videos about like Miss Manners or how I learned not to be bullied. And I grew up at the Warner doing musical theater. I did, I don't even know, countless plays and I was determined like that was, that

was what I wanted to do. You know, I didn't end up that way, but yeah, life had a different plan. That's the thing. It does though, right? Yeah. Okay. What's, what's your guilty pleasure TV show? or movie, like what's the guilty pleasure that you like to watch? I love all things Bravo. I love The Housewives, Vanderpump Rules, Summer House. I mean, I know so many people are like, oh, I love The Pit. I love Grey's Anatomy. And I'm like, yeah, no, I just lived The Pit. And

I don't want to be in The Pit anymore. I want to be in Beverly Hills. I want out of the pit, please. Yeah, I want to be out of the pit and into these like, you know, just crazy lives of these women. But yeah, what about you? What is your guilty pleasure? TV? I like crime. I like crime series. I like Dateline and Law and Order. And maybe that goes back to that whole childhood dream, which is kind of weird. Yeah, I'm one

of those crime junkies. So you're living out your childhood dream vicariously through TV? Yeah, I guess. I feel like, I don't know, I know that it's big and a lot of people like it, but it is kind of weird to like share that, like murders and you know, it's, I don't know. I think it's the whodunit part that I like, you know, in some of these things. It's like, you don't know. I don't know, the suspense maybe, or that I'm nosy. I used to watch a lot of Snapped. Do

you remember that show? Yeah. Oh, yeah. That one. Do I remember it? Come on. I've seen every single episode. I've seen a lot. Sometimes I'm like, oh, my God. I already saw this one. All right. I guess that's fine. Nancy did it with the club. Come on, Nancy. Get it together. No, I know. I could definitely get down in the crime scene, too. Those are my favorite movies. What is that? Knives Out. and the onion, something about an onion. Yeah, I didn't like that one.

I just love when it's like everyone could be a suspect. Yeah, that's like Clue. Like that was one of my favorite games. That was one of my favorite games. Yeah. So it's a lot like White Lotus. I love White Lotus too. Yeah. I'm a mix between like drama and mystery. I love it. Yeah, I hear you. It's my favorite. Let's see. What was a failure that you're now grateful for? Oh gosh. This is hard. This is a hard one. I think I had a relationship before my husband that definitely

went south and failed, unfortunately. For us at the time, it was a really hard thing to go through, but it happened for a reason. And, you know, there was a house involved and all these things, and it was like a lot to go through with the Trying to figure out all the other stuff that we had like assets and things We weren't

married. But if that didn't happen Then I wouldn't have been with my husband who is my person, you know That would probably be something that I'm very very grateful for to happen even though it seemed hard at the time, you know, yeah Well, that would be mine, I guess. That's a hard one. That's a lot of self -reflection I would maybe need a minute on that one Yeah, mine is pretty similar. I mean I had a I had a goal to get out to California, New York and Every time I would

go to New York something would happen. It would make me come home. I tried moving to Boston for a week Literally, I lasted a week and it was just like what could go wrong went wrong You know, it was probably the worst the worst weekend of my life and I mean, down to a rat running across my foot. And I was like, Steve, come pick me up. You know, I got in tears in Boston. And then, you know, California never worked out.

And I was so devastated at the moment. But if I had moved out there, same, I would not be, I mean, who knows, maybe we could have made it work long distance, but I don't think so, in reality. And I wouldn't be with my husband and I wouldn't have my two boys, you know, so. Life has different plans and you just have to know that like whatever is meant for you is gonna happen for your higher - You're young, that's hard to see, right? You're like, oh, this is

so hard right now, what are we gonna do? And it's all for the greater good. It just might take a little bit to see it. Yeah, when I was like 17, 18, I was like, no, I'm gonna be a star. I have my Oscar speech. I already know what I'm gonna say. Okay, are you a cat or a dog person? Oh, I love my cat, Bella, but I also loved Abby, my little cocker spaniel who we had to put down.

That's a hard one. Yeah, it's a hard one. If I had to choose, I would choose a cat only because they're so independent and I love that like you have to Really work for their affection. They're not just like, you know easily Cuddly or it really makes you kind of like appreciate their cuddles because you're like I am the chosen one You know, they they love me. They trust me and they can use the litter box. They can feed themselves like Unless you're doing like wet food then it's

kind of whatever but yeah dogs. It's a lot. It's a lot of work. It is Hmm. How about you? I think I honestly, I would say both too. I'm not really team cat or team dog, which probably makes me a bad person. You know how they say like, if you don't like dogs, like you're not like nice at all. But I think I would have to pick a cat too. And same thing just because our schedules are crazy. Like I would need someone to take care of the dog. Yeah, it's a lot. I don't know

if that's necessarily fair. But yeah, I'm going to say I'm going to say cat also. Yeah, cat. Cats are pretty cool. Yeah. Let's see. What's your favorite way? Okay, so if you had the ideal Sunday, right, what would it look like for you? Honestly, because I work Saturdays a lot. Sunday is like my first day of the weekend, and I just want to like cook and clean and be chill. I would exercise in the morning. We go to church, you know, some Sundays too, but I just want to cook

and clean. Did I hear that right? I know. What is wrong with you? I know. We're talking about your typical Sunday, like your ideal. No, I know. Ideal fantasy Sunday. I mean, that would be on a beach. Like if we're, but I don't know. Yeah. I like to feel set up for the week. So if I can slowly do all those things on a Sunday and just feel like I'm organized and prepared for the next week ahead. That feels so good to me. I love my Sundays or we don't have anything to

do. Ugh, all right. I know, that sounds weird, I guess. I'm not hanging out with you on Sunday. I know. I know, it sounds bad now. Okay, what's yours? What's yours? I mean, I would go nuts with a huge egg sandwich and then take like a three -hour nap, but hear me out. It's raining. Okay. I'm going to set the mood, okay? So my ideal Sunday is it's raining. I have a little golf playing on the background. To put your right to sleep. Yeah, it's the best to take a nap.

I used to do tennis, but then you would hear like, ugh. And you're like, what? I had a lot of weird dreams, but golf, you have that subtle clapping in the background. Birds chirping. Birds chirping. Yeah. The commentators are so like, oh. Look at him coming up onto the fourth green. They do kind of whisper. Yeah, it's a really good backdrop. If you've never done it, I suggest it. Plus the eggs are going to knock you out.

Exactly. My egg sandwich. I would probably do a three egg sandwich so I can get a solid three hours of sleep in. And then what would I do after that? I don't know. I'd just kind of do what feels whatever I wanted to do. That would be ideal, right? Like set schedule, just like I wake up. Oh, I want to like. you know, paint my toenails. Okay, let's do that, you know. Yeah, that would be ideal. Perfect. So funny. We're

so different. Okay, number six. Are you like, do you want, do you feel best dressed up or comfy? What's like, what's your go -to? Are you dressing up, getting dolled up for the day, or are you in comfy clothes? Well, my go -to is comfy. I mean, if I'm not in yoga pants. Whose is it,

I guess? Yeah, I'm in neither yoga pants or scrubs, but I... feel the best when I put in a little effort and I have that time to really like do my hair and look you know a little less shabby but I mean my go -to is definitely comfy over dressy. Yeah. How about you? I'm totally the same as you. I definitely feel better when I'm done up and put some effort that's a perfect way of saying it but I would say I'd rather choose

comfy. Yeah. With a nice cozy blanket. Yeah, that's the vibe after 2020 I mean, I think we can all agree on that. I think that's the vibe after like 30, you know I'm all set with you know, all of it Yeah All right. Number seven.

What's the scariest thing you've ever done? Well Not cooked and cleaned on a Sunday Well, I don't like to fly so I would say that's a fear and I've done that many a time No, but the scariest thing I've ever done would probably be opening up my salon Yeah, taking that leap of faith. I was very young and So far so good, but it was very scary at the time. I was I was young and naive so It was scary like anything right? Yeah now looking back. I'm like, well, I was really

scary. I should have been way more scared but at the right time when you didn't really think twice. Yes, that's true. Yeah, that would probably be my scariest thing. How about you? Mine would be, well, you were there when you shaved my head. Oh, yes. That was a little bit outside my comfort zone. I did it for St. Baldrick's fundraiser. And looking back, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I used to be a school nurse. and we lost a little student to a brain tumor and we raised money

in honor of him. So, I mean, it wasn't just like I went, you know, Emily shaved my head, you know. No, I did it for a good cause, but let me tell you, I was a little scared. More so just like what would my husband think, you know? Poor guy, like he's got to look at me and pretend like he's attracted to me, but. You looked amazing. You looked so good with short hair. All right. You did though. It is scary. I mean, how many people would do that, you know? So, yeah, that

was scary. It was awesome. It was really an incredible experience because I learned a lot about myself and about others and just perceptions of people took me, you know, just it was an eye -opening experience and I wouldn't I don't regret it in any means, but yeah, that was probably the scariest thing. What do you got? Karaoke song. What's your go -to? Oh, God. You're singing for the

masses. What are you going to sing? Well, you know, I always thought that, like, I usually was just like, yeah, Sheryl Crow, anything Sheryl Crow, I'm going to fucking do. Listening back and looking back at like videos. No, I'm never choosing Sheryl Crow again She is incredible, but I do not do the songs justice Do not of us do the songs justice. I mean, yeah, it's just like cringe -worthy like No, I I'm not a Sheryl

Crow. That's not my like range I suppose I have to find it but Don't know I feel like my next song that I do would probably be What is it like something Brooks or? Something like I'm a bitch. I'm a lover I'm a child. I'm a mother. Oh, yeah, that's a good one. I might try that one next. I don't know Oh my god, we're gonna have to look that up because that's gonna bother me now who sings it such a great song It's like it's like my anthem. How do I not know? Who sings that?

Well, we're gonna have to hit up a karaoke. Meredith Brooks? Is that it? Oh, maybe. That sounds right. Did we go to high school with her? Why Meredith Brooks? I'm dying. Oh my god, we will look it up. Get back to everybody about that one. My karaoke song would probably be the Dixie Jix. I love the chicks, whatever they're called now. But goodbye Earl. You know that one? Oh yeah, that's a good one. I've heard you do that a few times actually. One of our other friends and

I, we usually are a duo and that's our jam. Oh I did look it up and it is Meredith Brooks. We didn't go to high school with her. No. No. Alright, so the next time we're out you're you're doing the chicks and I'm doing the bitch I love it. That's that's that's a plan All right. What about you? Would you rather have the ability to fly or be invisible? I'm gonna say I just told you I don't like to fly. I do not want to be in the sky. Oh Yeah, I'm not interested in that like

at all. Like I'll never be jumping out of a plane. That's my fear. So I'm gonna have to stay invisible. Visible, yeah? And you know what? I don't think that would be that bad. I want to be creepy. I'm not gonna be invisible and like, creeping on people in the bathroom or something. You know? But I'm a little nosy, so maybe that'd be good. I'd be like, I'm nosy. You know, to like, see what people are saying. Know if I want to know

what people are saying about me. Yeah. Well again, I don't want to fly so I have to pick the other Alright, so you then you're kind of stuck. Yeah, what about you? I mean, I would fly like a bird. I I would just be like soaring gotta go to stop and shop. Bye boom flying I would love it. I I don't know if you think about it like this, like when you're flying in an airplane You can't

fly right? So you're like, yeah you are Really putting your trust in this huge machine in the sky, but if you can fly you have more control I think you'd like it. Maybe yeah, I want to be like maybe if I were to fly just like 15 feet high I want to be close to the ground. I'm gonna be a low sore You know if that's yeah, you'd be like a butterfly. Maybe maybe yeah, just like a little up a little down Yeah, that's good.

So I don't know. Maybe I would have to change my answer Okay, number 10, how do you stay motivated when things get tough? Oh, yeah, that's a hard one. Motivated when things get tough. Well, I mean, life is very rarely easy, you know, like, there's always something to be kind of working

through, but I just kind of have. Like I said in that manifestation episode I have that trust that like even if it's shitty times it's for a reason and it's leading me or you know on a better path or You know, I just feel like things happen for a reason like this had to happen so that this happens and then I meet this person and then this door opens or You know, I don't

know. That's just kind of what motivates me is like, okay, I trust that this is for my highest good, one way or another, and I can get through it, and I will, you know? What about you? I mean, similar, I guess. I try to stay as grounded as I can, you know? But yeah, I look for, I love podcasts, so I listen to a lot of inspirational. You know self -help podcasts too, and I love that because it just kind of brings you back down It's just you know what you're saying, but

you're good about doing it for yourself. I'm still in that learning phase You know so by having someone kind of tell me what to do by listening to the podcast. That's really helpful You know to be grateful and try not to see the the bad in it all you know maybe this is for Something better always it's always something better around the corner. Yeah I have some books too that are great, you know, with stuff like that and yeah, I would say that it's helpful for me. So number

11. What are some non -negotiables when it comes to self -care? My workouts at this point are a non -negotiable. Like mom's cup needs to be filled for sure. I always say my cup's overflowing. I'm so, you know, everything's great and butterflies and sparkles and that's just kind of who I am for the most part. I try not to be negative at all. But I would say to fill my cup and to stay, you know, non -negotiable for me would be my workouts, sleep, my skincare. Yeah, I'm a little

crazy about those three things I would say. Yeah, I mean that makes sense. Mine, definitely sleep. If I don't sleep, Oh my God, I'm not, I'm no good for anyone. Let's see, non -negotiables for self care. I gotta be outside. I gotta be outside, sleep. And really, I mean, like I said, in previous episodes, I really started taking the time to pause and like slow down a bit. And I'm sorry, but I'm not ever gonna go back to that crazy. Overworked overstressed mom that

I was just a few years ago. Like I like I like where I'm at now Yeah, I have prioritized balance and boundaries and I'm sticking with it. So yeah, my boundaries are I Definitely self -care. Yeah, I've learned to say no and be okay with it, you know, yeah, yeah definitely This is a fun one. What's your get ready soundtrack? What are you listening to if you're going out? Oh gosh. I

mean, I'm going to Woodstock. I love, I don't know, Creedence Clearwater, but then I also like Meredith Brooks and I'm a bitch and all these things. So I'm kind of all over the place when I think about it. I could get ready to anything, I guess. But yeah, my go -to is usually 70s. I'm a little hippy -dippy girl. It just makes me feel so good. I don't know. That's the whole point, right? Yeah. Well, mine's a little different. Are you listening to a crime podcast? No. I mean,

I have, don't judge. No, I'm just kidding. Mine would be like 2000s hip hop rap, 90s rap, Nelly speaking at 50 set. Like, you know, things that I guess... when like coming of age for me like that time frame it's like that sort of music that's I want to listen to to get myself hyped up I could get in on that yeah yeah yeah I mean I could go to Woodstock too that sounds great but yeah if I'm gonna put something on while I'm getting ready it is 100 % early 2000s hip

-hop I love that. It's like we're getting ready for high school, you know? Yeah, I mean, maybe that's what it is. It's nostalgic. I don't I don't even know. But it really is what I go to. I remember getting ready for like school dances and we're listening to like a shanty and yeah. Oh, yeah. All the things. No, that's cool. I could get in with that. Yeah, right. Oh, I got a good one. Who is your hall pass? Oh, OK. I'm going to say my hall pass is Theo James. Do you

know who that is? No, who is that? You do though. Yeah, he was, I think he's been in a bunch of movies, but just things I haven't really seen. But he was in season two of White Lotus. He was the husband who was like, Oh, I do know him. Yes. Yes. He's in The Gentleman, right? Yes. Oh, God. The other thing I would say that you would know him from. Yeah. He's just, he's just cute. I like him. I forgot all about him. I guess I'm in my hall pass. Who's your hall pass? Well,

shit, now I kind of want him. Yeah. Shit, I can't even remember his name right now. I know one of them. Do you want me to tell? Wait, how can I? Oh my god, I'm so embarrassed. I forgot my hall pass? No. Shit, he was Sexiest Man Alive. He's so funny. He's in, like... Paul Rudd. Yes, very. Thank you. All right. Oh, my God. I love him. Yes. So I just anyone who can make me laugh immediately. You're like, you're you're in that. It's not what I meant. Hey, you said it on me.

Yeah. Oh, my gosh. Too good. All right. Number 14. What mission drives you every day? Like, what do you have a personal purpose? What drives you every day? Probably, I mean, I try and teach my kids, like, you get what you put out, right? And I just try and help as many people as I can on a daily basis, whether it's at work or, I don't know, it's just I want to leave people happier than when I saw them, you know? Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah, mine's, I mean, very similar, just trying to be, I think, authentic for my kids. Just teach them, you know, at the stage we're at right now, it's, I think, going to be kind of about our kiddos. Yeah. Oh, yeah. You know, just to teach them and to show up to be the person that you are, as authentic as you can be. Be kind and, yeah, try and be a good person to be

a role model for them, I guess. To teach them that like you are incredible just the way that you are you don't have to change you don't have to be Anything you're not be yourself be your crazy wild imperfect self and Fully love it. You know, that's a good one. Let's see any advice you would give your younger self I would say maybe just stay out of other people's drama. That's not yours Like, stay in your lane. There's

no, like, talking shit or whatever. Like, you can help and guide people and give them advice if they're looking for it, but stay in your lane. No one else's drama is yours and don't let it be. Yeah, don't own it. Yeah. That's a good one. What about you? Mine would be... Oh, sweet girl. I would look at my younger self and just say

like brace yourself. You're gonna be going through some shit, but You are stronger than you think braver than you think and Yeah, I mean better days are ahead just keep working hard keep doing you and The right ones will find you, you know Yeah, that's enough that's awesome. Do you have an unusual talent? You got anything weird? I have a few. I am a quite unusual person. If I had to pick one that many probably wouldn't guess, maybe people who know me, I'm a pretty bad ass

jump roper. That you are. I was on a jump rope team and we were pretty fantastic. We were on ESPN like six times. We won nationals, we won worlds, but... Yeah, you give me a jump rope and I'll show you some really cool tricks. It really is incredible. It really is incredible. Well, I really have nothing. I'm nowhere near that. I don't have like, I can't, I can't touch my nose and my tongue. Like I can't do anything cool. I can't roll my Rs. Like I got nothing.

Um, I snort when I laugh, which I don't think anyone thinks of the talent. That's like a flaw. That's a flaw in the system. I'm sure Matt loves it. No, well, he probably begged to differ, but I'm sure you have some talents. I don't know. I can't think of. That sounds so bad. Like, I don't know. I don't think I have any. We're going to have to investigate that because I don't like the sound of that. I know, but unusual is like kind of different, right? Like, I don't know.

I can't think. Maybe this possible deviated septum I have that makes me snort. Can you tie a cherry thing with your tongue? Yes, I can. Well, there you go. We found your unusual tongue. I can. I can do that. There you go. Oh, how did I know? That's so weird. How did I know that, actually? I'm like, you must have known that. That's so funny. Yes, I can. That's unusual. I don't know. Can other people do it? Maybe not. Let's see. Are you a sweet or savory type of gal? Savory.

Oh, me too. Savory, savory. I like sweets, but no. Yeah, if I had to pick one, it would definitely be. Yeah, savory all day. Savory all day. Yeah. This is a hard one. Number 18 what kind of legacy do you wish to leave? Oh Well, you know it kind of goes back to One of my previous answers like I just hope when people think of me they just think like You know she she was magic she was kind and She always made me feel better when I saw her, you know, like I just, I hate seeing

people sad. I just, I just want to make everybody happy. I don't know. And I hope that they just believe in like positivity and the power of the mind and like anything you're going through, you could fucking get through, you know, and I hope that when I'm not here anymore, people kind of look up at the sky and be like, you know, she made me believe and you know. Yeah, just magic. I hope that my legacy is magic, I guess. I don't know. What about you? That's cool. That's

what I would think of you, like, for sure. That's so good. I think mine's somewhat similar. You just want to hope that you paved a path for people to choose positivity and choose kindness and, you know, show them the way, kind of. Yeah. I don't know if I have your magic powers there, babe, but... You're yeah, you know You just don't know it yet. It's like a got to think about that for a couple minutes. I know I know it's a hard

one That's what I mean. It's it's a good one to think about and kind of live up to every day I mean your little differences every day really do add up. Maybe you realize that or not like you know, I Never want to be the person that's like, ah, she was such a bitch, you know, or like You know so like your actions speak everything about you even to the the stranger at Dunkin Donuts just everything has an effect so Just always choose kindness choose how you want to

be treated and you can't go wrong. You know, that's true Lighter note. Yeah, what's your favorite movie? I mean, I think my all -time favorite that I've left since I was a little girl would be Forrest Gump Yeah, I love that's me. I cry every freaking time. I Just I just love it. It's all the feels. I don't even know. It's my favorite. Yeah, it's a good story. I love it Yeah, good story. Good lesson. That's a classic. Yeah. Yeah, what about you? Huh? Well, I think my all -time

favorite would be Beetlejuice. I mean even as a little kid that is so you It was just so ahead of its time, the imagination. I feel like anything Tim Burton does is just so out of left field. What is going on in his mind? Just to create that whole story and outline costumes and everything, it was just, I was obsessed with it at a very young age. They probably perked your theatrical side. Maybe. Got you going there. Yeah, it was just I don't know. I was a weird child though.

I mean I mean, I'm still very weird. So I don't know that I would have my brother read me like scary stories to tell at night as my bedtime story and I'm like off to bed You know, yeah, I just loved what that was very creative. Yeah Okay, next one. Oh, we're almost done here question number 20 You want to go on a hike or a beach walk? That is like, do I want my right hand or my left hand? I know. I would probably say beach

because I go on a hike very, very often. So I would, I would definitely go to the beach by the chance. I mean, you have the water, the sand, seagulls, you have the sunset. I mean, I know you can't go wrong. Yeah, that's hard. I, I would pick beach for sure. I am definitely a beach person, but I wish I was more of a hike person. Like, two, like, I just don't really hike. I think I'd love it, but I'm gonna have to go with beach on this one. Yeah, same. Thousand percent.

Alright, number 21. Are you ready? Yeah, last question. If listeners take one thing away from today's episode, what would you like it to be? I think... Today, you know, we're doing some self -reflection here and even if you think maybe life has been hard on you and you answer some of these questions, some are silly, some are more deep, I think you realize that there's a lot of positive things in your life and maybe you've come out of things a little differently

than you thought you would. But I think the self -reflective ones, to me, were harder. And if I could sit with those a little longer, my answers would maybe be different. So maybe take some of those questions with you and get to know yourself. I've never ever Given myself any of these questions or have ever been asked them before You know, yeah It's like reflection if you do journal or anything like that. These would be some of these would be great questions Like yeah, what kind

I hope that today's listeners just kind of I mean, like you said, take these some of the hard, I mean, you don't have to go until your hall pass and like your favorite movie, but the harder ones, you know, give yourself a pat on the back. You've made it through some of the hardest times in your life. You didn't think you could. And what kind of a person do

you want to start being in the future? What motivates you? What inspires you? Do a little bit of shadow work. Shadow work is really important to kind

of dig deep and see where. You know things you could change about yourself things that you love about yourself all of the above so I Suggest writing down a few of the tough ones and learning a little bit more about yourself in the process So today we're gonna do something a little bit different instead of a quote I have my little spirit junkie card deck from Gabrielle Bernstein
