"One of the great aspects of Kansas City is its thriving arts community. Here, art isn’t just for museums – it lives throughout the city, whether on vacant buildings, sidewalks, art fairs, or other spaces, viewers can discover and explore the non-traditional arts scene at their fingertips.
As for the artists, up and coming Dave Ruggeri is making his mark. Having dropped out of college where he was pursuing an art degree, Ruggeri has been a bartender, gone to business school to open his own bar, worked at a bank, was a cop, and went back to school to get his MBA and master’s in economics. As of late, he’s rekindled his love for the arts, has been showing in galleries and painting up a storm.
His inspiration comes from graffiti culture, specifically the movement, colors, and style. He likes to pull in inspiration from his predecessors such as Keith Haring, Cope2, and Kaws, always making sure to use a lot of color, patterns, texture and ‘pop.’ When you walk in a room, you’re sure to notice one of his paintings."
