Alrighty, good morning. That was nice. The very first second there, Dog's gross apologies, uh caz O day radio program at a six a week and royal boy, what do we got? Oh, we got we got a few, We got some dudies, man, obviously the big story.
And of course it happened like after I did the promo and got all the stuff ready for essay and we left, and finally we have the resignation there of the Harvard president kind of kind of I mean from a title standpoint, excuse me, yes, but I was just reading this morning that even though she's out as pres she still gets, you know, still a professor, and they're gonna maintain the presidential salary, which is nine hundred thousand a year.
I don't know what a standard professor makes, but obviously that is quite a bit of excess. And the reason, as you probably know, even if you're only lightly following the story, conservatives weaponizing plagiarism. Yes, yeah, no, I ye, you probably thought, well, maybe it was that there seem to be these compounding allegations of plagiarism coupled with the testimony in Congress which didn't go so well. But you would be wrong. How do
I know. I've got media both locally and nationally here to tell me. Boy, where do we even start with this? Let's start national, shall we? All? Right? So over at CNN, because of course, over at CNN, they decided they were gonna have a little round table on the story after many many of their reporters have been tweeting some interesting stuff following the story. What's this guy's name? Matt Egan? So he gets drug in to be the I guess, the plagiarism analyst, the reporter there,
and I just he's got an interesting take on what exactly that means. Here we go these plagiarism allegations where Claudding Gay has had to issue corrections, multiple corrections. Now we should note that Clutting Gay has not been accused of stealing anyone's ideas in any of her writings. She's been accused of sort of more like copying other people's writings without attribution. So it's been more sloppy attribution than stealing anyone's ideas. Right, right, So not the thing but the thing?
Right? I mean? Is he making a distinction there? I mean, like because even his softer definition sounds like exactly what plagiarism is I read If I read the transcripts, they're presented as her summation of things, right, And if it's her summation of information, which some of these passages are about, that's an idea, right. I'm really confused. I frankly, I am so disappointed. I'm not in school now, like I might fall into that temptation. Man, it's never it's never been easier to not do
the work. And I'm not gonna lie. I always tested well, I got with I always knew the stuff, but I was crap on homework. Man, hated homework, and so there was going to be any deans or anything where I was getting lazy and not doing it. It was homework, not because I didn't know it, just because I hated the busy work. I don't know that I would have been able to resist stuff like this or not stuff like this stuff apparently, which is different from what CNN interpreted that
she did. These plagiarism al Gay has had to issue corrections, multiple corrections. Now, we should note that cludding Gay has not been accused of stealing anyone's ideas in any of her writings. She's been accused of sort of more like copying other people's writings without attribution. So it's been more sloppy attribution than stealing anyone's ideas. All right, Am I missing a distinction here? I just want am? I like, maybe I'm not understanding what he's saying.
The difference is because she presented in a couple that I literally the ones I just most recently read. She is making a summation of somebody else's work. Yes, so there is a certain complexity to this. So she's basically analyzing a study, right, that some other person did. However, the analysis of the study is cut and pace words of someone else's analysis. So let's say that Ross did a study of Ross. What are you doing a study
of you? What do you need government dollars for? What are you researching fast casual Italian restaurants? Would that work? That'd be great? Yeah? Okay, all right. Ross is doing a fast casual Italian restaurant research paper, and I want to talk about it, but I want to talk about
analysis of his methodology. So like, let's say he did it, but he only went to Olive Garden, Right, that would not some would say that would not be a thorough analysis of the nation's fast casual Italian restaurants if you don't go to like Macaroni Grill and you know whatever whatever other ones. All right, so let's say that the analysis is being critical of him only going to Olive Garden. But let's say that's funny. I didn't even write
the analysis. Let's say Kyle wrote it in news, and then I printed what Kyle wrote, but didn't say Kyle wrote it. How is that not stealing an idea even if I agree with it or at the very least how it's worded. That's what we're talking about here, and that's what CNN went with, and then Boyle pointed it just go. This is went crazy town from there, man, you had you had what's your bucket? Who almost
got hied? I to bay Wells, e Ebram, Kendy, everyone just jumping out there and wril This morning, I wake up and this is their headline. Harvard president's resignation highlights new conservative weapon against colleges plagiarism. Ah yeah, you know, in the world of conservative seas pounds, that's a doozy.
But that's especially I mean, she's profited off of the stolen ideas, right, because she's you know, president of Harvard, and you have to you have to publish papers, and they apparently they look at that when they, you know, should they hire you? So and you've already said her salary was ridiculous, so she wrote these papers. She stole the ideas. Plagiarism is theft, right, and now you're making all this ridiculous amount of money on it, I mean, and still making it like your salary is
going to stay the same. Yeah, yeah, I just but it's not plagiarism. Play. You know what it reminds remember what Pee Goldberg when she was what was she talking about where she said it wasn't rape rate She was talking about the director, right, I think that's something like no, or was it Cobe? No, it was Kobe Bryant, that's what it was. Or on the view she said whoopy. Goldberg said, yeah, but
it wasn't rape rape. I think I probably have that audio somewhere and it's like, eh, this is way earlier than me too, and I that's what they're doing here. They're like, well, it wasn't plagiarism. Plagiarism, Well there it is the new conservative weapon and doozy of a headline and the analysis from CNN. I mean the chef's kiss, the whoop the audio is up there. Oh okay, yeah, I mean because yeah, here
we go, this is this is Whoopy's analysis. No, it was, Yeah, there was a child in the lest maybe I don't know it was sometimes it was sometimes, but I don't believe it was rape. Rape. Yeah. Maybe that wasn't Kobe, Maybe that was the director. The point is she's making that equivocation, right, that wasn't rape rape And uh that was That was quite a while ago. And I you know, if you just said that during me too, I don't know that would have went.
But it turned my head when I saw those thing. I just think, like, that's what makes it so crazy. It's like, this is academia, right, and one of the apparently one of the most prestige universities in the country, and there were to be there because of your ideas and your accomplishments, right, and all of her ideas are somebody else's ideas. Well. Let's face you saw the David Hog thing last weekend before he came back, right, No, I missed it. Oh. His SAT score was
like twelve forty. The average at minimum is fifteen thirty. I was about to say it should definitely be over fifteen, right, Yeah, no he was. He was twelve something. Yeah, twelve forty fifteen thirty is the minimum generally, and he had. All he could do was just post tweets of telling people to touch grass. Right, So so no, I mean the veneers off, but holy crap, how you're going. This is the hill you want to die on today, and conservatives are the one weaponizing it.
You ever upload a video to YouTube and you put like two seconds of somebody else's clip or audio in your video to make a point of maybe you're commenting, this is why I don't put parody. This is why I don't put party songs up. They're perfectly legal. And when I've challenged them, because immediately I'll get a strike, right, and then I'll challenge it. And in almost every case they said fine, but it's such a pain in the ass. I don't put parodies, right, and the YouTube will be
like, hey, that that two seconds isn't yours. So you know, we can't monetize this video anymore. You can't profit off that because it's not your idea. Yeah, she's making nine hundred thousand dollars on ideas that were never hers. Wait what did did you get a video nicked or something? No, it's very common. I mean, it's it happens. Yeah. I mean that's why I don't love to upload to YouTube anymore from Twitch, because like I use a lot of sounders and you know, stuff like that.
Can't do it? Can't do it? Yeah, well you can. You just got to go up to Massachusetts itself a sweet gig. They're in the you know, the halls of havad and and profit. Of course you have to live in Boston or at least around there, so you know, do with that what you will. Six nineteen more to come, including speaking of speaking of oh boy, I want to say the weaponized Well, hold on, I give you a little background on this. Check. We got
some great audio coming up for you. And Ross, did you see the other tweet I sent out this morning about what's going on down in Charlotte? Am I a bad look? That's a good thing, right, It's a good thing that they're doing with the signs. It's a good thing. But you know, right now, certain people who are childish or a little dark, they're gonna see that, and uh, well, I'll explain coming up next on the CaCO Day radio programs Your Day Smarter one O six one f
M Talk and News Talk ninety four PTI More with Casey starts now. All right, six twenty five. We just got a short segment, so we'll get into audio here right after the bottom of the hour. Uh, I can't if I meant Ross that I met. No, I didn't mention this
on you. I was telling Ross this off the area yesterday. I was talking talking with somebody who's a little more into the MMA stuff than me, a little more die hard, and I'm so I'm not super familiar with all the different organizations other than obviously you know Dana White UFC here, but you know one of the other ones is called what is it, the One Championship
and this is where you do like the movie Time the kickboxing MMA. They run all different styles of stuff, and I guess they're the biggest just because they cover like Asia and a bunch of other places. Again, not super up on it, but here's why I'm saying something. Ross. I guess they want to do like a one big tournament for the world of the best
fighters across the spectrum. Dude, that they're trying to do a kumitaate dude, I'm all for it, yes, yeah, and no real not the not the one that doesn't mathematically work that you've had explained to you, like the real deal, but like, like, how corporate do you make this versus what it's supposed to be, right with the secret invitations, the shady stuff, the like how many how many rounds was that? Like they did they did the audio, did the math and Frank Dukes and they found it
be around robin of fifteen hundred different matches. Yeah, so we're gonna have to we have to trim that down. But you're down for this, right right, yes, Now the question is how straight stereotype do you go with all of the fighters? Right? Oh? You got to you gotta stay
true to the to the original. I mean you have to. It's gotta be eighties level, like you know exactly where that dude's from, right, Like, if we don't have like a diabolical you know, the Asian dude blowing like sand in somebody's face at the end of it, like I'm gonna be disappointed. Wait, wait, can that guy flex his peck? Oh
dude, Kenny, Oh my goodness, that's gonna be great. And then, for whatever reason, sometimes it's out of South America and sometimes Africa, you gotta have the really little dude that hops around like in the crouch position for whatever reason. I'm not familiar with how that works, but there's always that dude. You gotta have, like a weird French guy. You know, he's not gonna get anywhere. And then do we go big dumb biker dude from you have to go big slabby American biker dude. You have to
love it. And then Russia is just exactly like from Rocky. I mean, how else do you do Russia without Ivan drawgo So but yeah, man, I hope they get that thing Roland. I wouldn't even know how it would work, but I definitely tune it. That would be amazing. All right, A little filler there. We got more to get to, including your news coming up next Aco Day Radio program, Hanging Smart Talk all day ninety four to five PTI in the Triad and one six one FM Talk in
the Triangle. All right, welcome back, six thirty five KCO Day radio program. So you want to get I want to get out of the house, want to do something this weekend. I know we're just coming off you know, Christmas and New Year's and maybe you just want to get away from the family. Could I interest you in a trip to Seattle? Yep. Starting Friday is fat Con and uh, let's see. In fact, let's go to one of the folks promoting it on the twitters. She'll describe it
for you. I'm going to hold on. Here we go. I'm going to fackround in Seattle, Washington, January fifty seventh, and I want to see you there. Facron is a three day fat liberation celebration, y'all. We will be celebrating fat libration, body acceptance, and the power of being in fact community. Well, okay, all right, look, I got no beef if people want to gather for for whatever. But you know you're putting it out there, I'm at least going to analyze how I feel this
is going to go. So all right, we're gonna do that. So like you mean the demanding the planes change everything, that that kind of because I feel like that's the vibe I'm getting here, demanding that what was it hotel hallways were wider, which I don't know, they're usually pretty wide. But anyway, I'm sorry, tell me more. Man over sixty hours of programming spanning from policy, legislation, healthcare, community and visual arts, plus a ton more, this is sure to be I'm sorry, what what?
I'm sorry? What more? And also what's fat visual arts? I'm not a skinny dude. Tell me, but because I am unfamiliar with this particular creative outlet, is that like, is that like making mashed potato sculpture? I don't know what that is, but I do know that on top of it, they have a ton more? All right, continue, please, you don't want to miss the Vie wants to be immaculate with a fat brunch, a fat fashion show, and a fat vendor market. Now that's gonna
be amazing, right, I'm not gonna lie ross fat brunch. I mean no, it's gonna say, like the food of this thing would probably be amazing. Yeah yeah yeah, fat brunch. Yeah, that's gonna be gonna be table served or people. Is gonna have to be like a walkthrough of fat because I'm just I need security. There is so much to do. Plus there's some really cool experiences you can sign up for, like some fat
liberation photo shoots, and some incredible shopping experiences with two big lawns. Being in fat community with other fat people who just accept you for who you are and get it is such a great experience and I want every single person watching this to be able to have that experience with us. Ticket sales for the Fat Con are going to be ending very soon, Okay, all right?
And then again it kicks off on the on Friday. Look, you want you want people, you want you want to go to a place where a couple of fat people can just, you know, be fine with each other and get along. Just go to a bar, man, go to a rule, go to a go to a country bar. For lack of a better words, everybody's fine. Occasionally some fights, but you know, for
the most part, you want to go shoot pool with nobody cares. But no, if you want to go to Seattle and spend three days doing it with art exhibitions, amazing buffets and everything else, that's going that is yeah. And there's three days, so it runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yeah, Well, who are the speakers? I was gonna look that up this morning. Ross. You want to go lie, you want to go live broadcasts from there? Now, I say, I wouldn't have an issue.
The food be amazing, planting. I'm in the best shape of my life. Like I've go to Jim Multime, I go in there, I'd feel even better about myself. Yeah, it's like you've got like the the super attractive hot women that always when they take photos or post them online, they're always next to like their chubby friend, right, because it makes them feel better about themselves. No, look at you, now, look at you trying to read into the motives there, which you're probably right, but
yeah, yeah, you go out there. But but the difference is is I don't feel like, like, did you did you hear anything in there about not being fat? Which is look if you want if you know, I was aware that's that's not my thing. But you know what I'm saying. I know I was wondering if there was like a like can anyone go? Is a doctor going to be there? Hey? Like truth like profiling you as you walk in. I don't know the answer to that. You know what it takes a buddy, you got to leave, Like wait,
so if you're not fat enough? Yeah, but I'm sorry, sir, your b M I is not going to get you in here, go to go over to uh, what's I'm trying to remember the buffet restaurant. I was saying, Yeah, but I go to go to Old Country or whatever and come back. Man, Oh yeah, I wonder how much it costs too. I doesn't even say we'll see if we can get a media media passed there. So that's going on, and again I feel like it's gonna be a lot more of the hey, no, everything's fine, instead of
because it's focused on it. It's not just neutral, you know what I'm saying. It's not the term that confused me and her promo. There was the fat liberationists. Yes, like, wouldn't that be like losing the weight? No, I think it's about getting two airline tickets for one so for the price of one. I guess I don't know when when you've seen fat activists, what have they been asking people to do? Basically, let them watch the movie well, well, yes that is one from an elevated but
let me use my chair and watch the damn movie Big. But it's mostly been hey, we need basically all the civil rights protections and oh, by the way, this is this is fine, right, And then Nike's like, yeah, that's right, Let's run a bunch of let's do a commercial shoot like this, Let's change Victoria's secret, let's do all of this. Look, I know, I already know what my doctor's going to say.
Do you know what I'm saying? Right? And I think you know people out there and it you know, and it's on all levels, but it doesn't mean they're wrong. So then you go and you do the things. You'll walk some more, you make sure that your blood pressure is good, and you and you know, and then whatever level or journey that's on there,
that's fine. But it's like I have a feeling that if you were if you were in this group, right, and you let's say you went to the next two fact cons and you showed up at the third one and you're down like close to your goal weight, they'd probably think you were a trader. Remember who was the singer who lost the weight? They were lighting up the what's the British singer? What is her to Adele? Right? Didn't Adele lose weight? And then like people got mad at her? Yeah,
no, she used to be a joke. Like people used to make fun of her weight, and you know, oh my god, she's wearing spanks and allose kinds of and then she lost the weight and they're like, oh, you're not being true to yourself, you know, and and good on her. She's just like she's she's like, I'm adele. I don't care, right, And if you don't care, if you're happy, then you know, I just want people to be happy. That's great, I know that. Like you said, I went to the doctor and they're like,
dude, you need to lose some weight. And I sure did, right, Like I lost seventy five pounds just eating plain baked potatoes. We've talked about this before in the show. And now I go to the gym like all the time. I'm addicted to it, right, and I personally I'm happier now and I feel better. But I mean, hey, if you feel great about yourself, like if you're like Liz O, you go queen and go to the fat hunt, I don't care. Yeah, but the fact that you have to show up to feel great about yourself, do
you know what I'm saying? Makes me think that maybe you don't feel great about yourself. And and that's fine, Like people are inherent I'm sure there's still things that bother you about yourself, even from a health perspective. Right, Oh no, no, I'm constantly working on it, right yeah. Yeah. So anyway, Uh so that's you know, if you need something to do this weekend, there you go six forty three cac O Day radio program. But whatever you do, because I feel the temptation will be there,
don't go to the McDonald's. Apparently there is a there's some four D chess going on, and uh you got to be really smart to figure it out. And the apparently this woman is I'll explain next hang out keeping you connected. This is ninety four to five WPTI in the Triad and one on six one FM Talk and the Triangle. All right, so I did find the I found the speaker's list and programming lists for for the fact on there ross keynote speakers ready, three of them, doctor Bianca Loreno, Tigris Osbourne,
and uh the I guess the the big speaker. I didn't mean it like that. A lot of booty, So there's gotta be some sort of like an adult star or something. Right, Well, I did look up the bio hailing from the Bay Area. This internationally renowned cabaret and burlesque sensation nailed it. Yeah you did so. I don't know if you've given lessons or talking about that. Osborne is a fat rights advocate. Hope she heart got some pronouns there? And where does this woman other woman teach? I
don't know. Oh, she does stuff with Netflix. Well there you go. Okay, well that's that. And then other speakers Angelina Moles, Saucy West, and the world famous Bob I don't even know. All right, so there you go. Just a little more info. Uh, use Ross's promo code if you book and have fun over there? All right? So, no, here's what I want to look at the schedule. No, it is all it's all like you look, everything's fine, and here's how to sue. I'm just kind of looking at this. Oh wow, I
can't ooh ooh wow. There's a lot of really adult breakout groups here that I like. Okay, all right, well have fun with that. Let me jump over to this. Let's say you do wandering in the McDonald's nearby. I was just thinking, Ross, can you imagine you're some like you. Let's say you work for one of the you know, one of the North Carolina tech companies, right, and you got to go, you know,
new Year, got to go see one of your big clients. And you're on that direct to Seattle on Friday from Aready you right, you show up at the gate, You're like, what's going on? Man? Right? Why is everyone going to Seattle? I just let you know that could be a thing. All right, let me jump to this. I I don't know, man, I'm like, I think it's real. Ross. What do you think of the Israel McDonald's thing? Real? Right? Oh? No, I don't think it's a hoax at all. I think it's
complete moonbat. But you know how it is that you got to run. You got to run this now in your head. No, I think I think absolutely complete moonbed. So what did she get? She got to a mc chicken or something, and you know, here's the deal. I don't I guess I don't know. Maybe subconsciously I know what the packaging is supposed to look like on the different sandwiches. I just I don't know if it would stand out if I unwrapped it and it was what I know I've gotten
that wrapper before? Oh wow, Like I can't remember. It was like either like a chicken, or like the what's the fish sandwich they have? The is the fish filet of the flame? Right? Yeah? I think that's when it comes in. And then I think, you know, sometime you've been to stories before where you know you have your favorite sandwich and sometimes it comes out in a different wrapper, and it's because they run out of the one they usually wrap it and they're like, well, we need to
wrap it up in some putting this right? But you know why they run out right? Well obviously the Jews? Yes, yes, how do we know? Listen to this chick coming back in after eating the sandwich. Mind you, sandwich is done and she's taken up her wrapper, which is white with blue lettering. So the word McDonald's and the logo were in blue. The rest of the wrapper is white. Here we go. So I was starving, so I to get one quick sandwich from here, and I thought
they gave me the wrong sandwich. But conveniently McDonald's change their packaging. Wow, what does that resemble? And at first I'm watching this and I'm like, like she think the m me is like, I mean, what what the hell is her beef? And then we get the big reveal is She now decides to go bug the poor guy at the cash register. Yeah, what is the Yeah, what is this new packaging chicken racker? Well? Why is it blue and white? I don't, I don't know. I
think you do know this isn't support of Israel, right right? Because also this dude obviously sits in on all the board meetings. I think that's pretty clear. The the you know, the shift manager running the I'm not knocking on the guy because uh, you know, good on him. I lost my crap. So if somebody needs fifteen an hour, it's probably this guy. But uh, anyway, so she's also assuming he's in on the plot.
It was like that. Actually he sends a few months ago because we ran out of the regular long No, I don't think so this is Davisan's part of a zoo. No, I mean we actually had that for a while though I was here two weeks ago and it wasn't like that. I mean, we kind of stuff. I know, I know this is not your fault because you're an employee, but I think this is disgusting for them to do this. And I know you in your heart, you know in
your heart that this is clearly what this rapper is for. But which, by the way, didn't you just get done like saying that he was in on the plot, this guy behind the register, like like like Oscar Schindler there, Yeah, yeah, hide, what's really going on? We know what you're doing, buddy. You know, you know you were there, you made the decision. I mean, I know, I'm explaining it to you. It is, this is what it's for. This is the color
of their flag. This is clearly what they're doing and what they're showing to people. And I think it's disgusting. What do you mean what do you mean what are they doing? Is is the McChicken somehow symbolism of what colonialism? Or I'm so confused, ma'am. What do you want the guy to do? And it's not like you know to that point too, that rapper exists, like Ross was mentioning, that's a while. It may not always
have the McChicken, I guess. I don't know. I don't order the McChicken, but like it's I recognize it as a rapper I've seen before, even if it's just subconsciously on something, you know, double cheeseburger, what
the hell it is? But no, she's convinced it's an all out, which, by the way, can you imagine if that poor woman lived here in the triangle, right she goes over to goes over near Duke University or heads over to Chapel Hill, just saying, ma'am, if if simple blue and white, uh, you know a color usage is enough to trigger you, don't come to the triangle. You're gonna I hate it right there. But yeah, you want to go see that video tweeted out for you Casey
on the radio and just backcrap crazy. But hey, good for the show. We appreciate that. All right, coming out, We got a little little football stuff here. We got more more details on this, uh the Greensboro police officer sergeant to Philip Dell Nicks in the death there just a little
more detail. It looks like during initial appearance about kind of the sequence of events which just continue to prove how wildly unnecessary that like somebody has this mindset where they think that they can just go do this and then if called on it, uh, if if it you know what's being alleged here from a callous standpoint, we'll we'll bring up to speed on what we what we learned
yesterday. Well, and I'm gonna roll this end filled story in there, so lots to get to phone number eight eight eight nine three four seven eight seven four you want to be on the show. And just a reminder, we were going to chat with the Lieutenant governor to day. He had a thing, so we're gonna move that interview to tomorrow at eight o'clock. So f yi on that and we'll be back. All right, good morning, everybody's welcome. It is seven oh six Bacoda Radio program. Boy, this
is a fun read right here. So it is a list of members of Congress, not all members, but members who disclosed stocks stock investment accounts, and uh, it's a just to look at how they did last year. Were you up? Were you down? And uh, what is the let's see what is the base that they're using. The using the spy so they're using standard and poors ETF So basically I'm probably explaining this a little wrong. Somebody can correct me, but basically they're trying to get a baseline based on
this this aggregate security which attracts multiple stocks with an index. Okay, so you know if you were to you know, you were just to come in and just basically invest in the Nasdaq as a whole, or various conglomerates, a collection of stocks, spiders, stuff or or whatever you can. You can tell what a big investor I am. But also it gives you a pretty good idea of maybe what individuals not in Congress could have been expected.
If I guess they roughly went in the same direction as as return and as we know, last year things were things were interesting. But it doesn't mean people didn't make money. If you knew the right stocks to invest in, you did pretty well. And Ross, let me tell you, these people are smart. I thought I would assume they're just they're they're really busy and you know, really sitting down and making those smart investments get those big returns.
Do they have enough time in the day. I don't know. I mean that's why they're in Washington, right, because they're the smartest, the best of the best, right r Yeah, right? What did your stock portfolio go up? I have to check eBay and see what the value of my action figures are. I can get back to. It's continue a while at it all up. I'm sure it's going through the roof, all right. So the the base here, this spy they're balancing against was twenty four
point eight percent, So like, that's pretty generous, right. However, we have members and by the way, this runs the gamut. We had a member of Congress whose stock portfolio increased two hundred and forty percent last year. That's pretty good, right. I'm not I'm not an investment advisor, but if I was, and I could, you know, create return and their trading options. Again, all these these guys man, all right, hold ony, because I want to get to some of the doozy's on this
list. Plus look at and by the way, yeah, there's several North Carolina members of Congress. Brian Higgins, who is a Democrat. I don't know where he got the two hundred and forty percent, but David Rouser had one hundred and five point six percent return, So you know there's a Republican. Let's see names. We know Nancy Pelosi up sixty five and a half
percent. And what you find out too when you look at these is there's two or three big stocks, including stocks that specifically got a big bounce because of decisions that were made by Congress. Navidia would be a great example that that was a banger and the Pelosi's got right in front of that, along with several other members Deborah Ross of forty six point one, there's at least two others. Sorry, it's just a straight list, not broken down by
state. Oh I'll tell you what gets interesting though. All right, hold on, go back to the other list. Where's the down Yeah, I want to see the ones that were under that, because like there were also members that lost some money. Here we go, this is the breakout I was looking for. And as you look down the list, let's see Warren Davidson. I don't know, he's a Republican from somewhere down seventy seven percent,
Virginia Fox down eleven point four. Now again this is this is going to come down to what moves you made, whether you you know, you know what you chose to do with this. In fact, I want to be sure on the parameters here. Let's see here, all right. So this is just so you know. Returns are calculated by estimating current stocks held in each member's portfolio, then calculating year to date returns, and then the spy year to date included for comparison. It's not an easy thing to do
on the radio. But I know they all like to leave to be lobbyists. They should probably leave to be stock advisors because these guys are killing it, man. And then we'll we'll have to see on Ross's action figures. I gotta think you got an up year, right, aren't. Collectible is like a thing to continue because people like sticking their money in them. I think last year I was reading something where like collectibles cards, things like that
were growing in popularity. Also, what about your cursed Aztec gold? What is that even worth? That has to go? I'm not gonna lie. I'm kind of scared to check on it. Yeah, well, I don't know. In the vault, you know? Yeah, but you did the twenty three and me you're fine, Remember right, it's only cursed if you have no Native American blood and you're what zero point two percent or something that works. Oh well, I don't know. I'm not not a curse gold
expert, but that just seems the logical way. Here's what I don't speaking of logic, or in this case, the lack of logic, how is it if the NFL really like, are they just of the opinion that there's no problem? That's what I think. That's what irritates people, because, like to air is human and you got to figure out, all right,
well, how do we mitigate that. But if you don't recognize that some people are better at this job than others, and you're not going to reinvent the wheel mid season, but you have to have some mechanism to go. You know what, when we have the highest profile games, and this week there's some there's some big ones. The Ravens game could be a big game. We'll see what happens there. There's I believe the last game of the season is probably a pretty big game. That'd be uh, you know what's
gonna happen with the Bills and the Dolphins. Why do you why would you put the refs who are who have now been on the hot seat several times, several times throughout the season, of course most recently during the Lions Cowboys game last week and decide, yeah, you know what, that's who we need officiating our big games. Well that's what the NFL announced at Allen who
was the Lions Cowboys guy. There was an issue the Steelers game earlier this season, and then the Kansas City game against the Packers, all of which just universally regarded as horrible calls, even among the most defensive fans. And that's the guy you're going to trot out. I was gonna look this up. You don't ross you don't know who's officiating your game, do you? I don't, But I know the guy you're speaking about, like in the
New York Post article. Yeah, yeah, he's going to be doing the raven Steelers game, right, which is very like if the Bills lose that game on Sunday, they're out of the playoffs. If the Steelers beat the Ravens. So I hope this dude is a fan of the Ravens. I hope he's like a big Lamar Jackson fan. He's like complete Lamar stan. I don't know what's motivating to do. I don't know. Maybe he's got something out of his mind, maybe he's got something at home that's not going
well. But there's there are three big calls that this guy screwed the pooch on this year. And if you're the NFL, anyone even pretend that you're trying to get the best out there, this is the mechanism for doing it right. Oh man, all right, we'll be back. Hang on the show. After the show is on the iHeart Radio app. Search casey O'Day for the podcast on the iHeart Radio app. Oh, one other football thing
which could be interesting. I I you know, maybe I got a little bias here is the relationship with the Jets and Dalvin Cook, who used to be the running back there for the the Vikings for Pro Bowls. Wint that out and then we can't manage our cap, so off he went. They've now essentially released him so he could go to any team. He go to, some team going to the playoffs. I'm just trying to think because he's obviously not done right. He's still relatively young. He just went to the
Pro Bowl, you know, the Jets. It's just the whole system with everything going on, Aaron Rodgers out and everything. He wasn't able to thrive
there. But I guess my question is what team needs Dalvin Cook? And is that like the Vikings, probably aren't going to the playoffs, so I don't have to worry about it. But I'm trying to think which team could get this dude, because he's really good, or at least was really good, and I think he still is. And I don't know man, I'd be a little nervous if I thought my team was going to the playoffs. But I can't, for the life of me think who would hire this dude?
Like, you guys don't need him. No, we have his brother, right, we have James With the Bills, they have so many running backs they haven't been using now with Dorsey are our previous offensive coordinator, finally they started to use them. But we have so many good running backs. James Cook, his brother, is currently number three in rushing yards in the NFL. Oh so yeah, a lot of like that's kind of like a stat that, like, you know, a lot of people haven't paid attention
to. But yeah, he's like he's number three, So well, I know it's I and I'm sorry, I don't pay attention because it's not. You guys don't really have any like MVP potential players, so in the discussion, So, yeah, get this. Josh Allen is one rushing touchdown away from breaking OJ Simpson's team record of rushing touchdowns in the season. He's won away, right, like once a week, Ross has his stat I don't
do you want to wait? Do you want OJ stats? Though? I mean he hey, but I'm just saying not guilty, right, well, no, not the one thing. I mean, it's not like he's like some crazy New England Patriots player that murdered a bunch of people. You're not guilty. So I mean the glove don't fit, you got to quit that. Uh that's a that's a good point. Yeah, who am I to argue? All right? So so yeah, no, you guys know, you guys are fine over there. I am, and not just because you
come in once a week. Uh, making the case. The fact that Josh Allen is not even in the discussion, right, it's mind blowing. It makes no sense. It's just idiots going lebar Jackson isn't quarterback enough? Right? And then like and then race baiting former players like that's the that is the the crux of the conversation. And you know, if you look at the stats, I'm just saying, but like, I couldn't think of a team that would need him, even though it looks like he's willing to
work for not a lot of money. Yeah, I don't know. I don't have no idea where he'd go, but that that could be kind of dangerous right there. I mean, look what happened with mcca. Look at McCaffrey was able to really open up in San France. Now he's surrounded with good people, but absolute game changer is obviously you know, uh, you know North Carolinians. No McCaffrey when he's not made to do literally everything is he's a hell of a player. And I you know, I think that
if McCaffrey's not there, San fran wouldn't stand a chance. So we shall see, but things could get a little interesting, all right, We got to talk, like I said, and we'll do this right after the bottom of the hour. Just a little more info on the shooting death of a member of the Greensboro Police a staff. He's just a shift serge and he's just sitting there. He's not even on duty. He's apparently he's just chilling in the same place. He likes to sit at the same sheets. Right.
What I suspect probably hundreds of you out there doing listening to me. Probably do right, you got your place, you stop going to or from work, the regular gas station. Maybe you talk to the clerk, talk to some of the people, you grab coffee, shoot the breeze. Right, That's that's what's going on. That's that's what this dude's doing. It little work done, maybe a little whatever from inside and and he saw what appeared to be something that he needed to intervene with, and he did,
and it it led to this this tragedy. And I hate to just call it a tragedy. It's a tragedy for law enforcement and the people depend on them and and the and the families here. But tragedy implies that I I don't want it to lessen the blame here. And so now when you look at the series of events, it just it seems that much more callous. So we'll get those details for you here in in just a few minutes. And you know, speaking of unnecessary and callous, how about this great was
he great great grandfather, He was a great great grandfather. Who's just sitting in his house. This is an Enfield does eating some cereal mine in his own business, and a bullet comes flind and through the window. He's an apartment complex. Obviously, it looks like there had been some issues in the
past. And you know, this is why we have these conversations. This is why when I'm you know, in whenever I talk about Durham, I go a lot to the same story of like the little kid just going to get a snow cone, because you know, as soon as you stop letting it shock your senses. I feel like for some people who feel that this cost is worth it as long as they can get whatever the social change that they want, then in a way you're kind of acquiescing to whatever. So
we're not gonna acquiesce. We're gonna make sure you got the latest details. We'll do that coming up. It is the Cacoday Radio program phone number eight eight eight nine three four seven eight seventy four, and we'll learn about cyber kidnapping. Hold on, Thank you. Casey is on ninety four to five WPTI in the Triad and one six one FM Talk in the Triangle. All right, good morning and welcome. It is seven thirty five, so it's
not far off what I think people in vision probably happened. But we did get a more definitive timeline yesterday in the shooting of a Greensboro police officer and now three people under arrest. It's uh, it's now. It's not clear if he's in uniform here, I didn't see, but he was off duty at the time. Sergeant Philip Dale Nicks. He was at this sheets, it says sheets he always goes to. According to the district attorney, he frequented it, like to go there in his downtime, get a little work
done, shoot the breeze, get a coffee, you know whatever. And according to the DA, Nix was sitting outside at a table when he noticed a car parked in a handicapped spot. He did have his badge and gun, it's unclear whether it was in uniform, and he, you know, he did what his years of training kind of you know, just innately does, and that is notice stuff, right, and he notices this car parked in the handicapped and it appears here that the three individuals don't appear to be
handicapped, so you know he's watching. According to DA Morrison and Foster, two of the individuals arrested, Each stole five cases of what I believe they said was modello and then went out to the car and that's when investigators say Nick approached the driver's side, at which point it's alleged that Foster Zamir Foster opened fire and shot him five times. Let's see Foster and black Well no prior convictions. Morrison one of the three has two felonies and they'll be back
in court April second. So I don't know how much of a conversation there was. I don't know if he identified himself or if he was literally just going up to make contact. But you know the audacity of the tragedy man, and you know where you see people who feel in bold and just go in and take whatever they want. Who's gonna stop me? And in this
case, it looked like this this guy may have stopped him. So I you know, I'll be curious obviously as we get deeper into it, how you know whether there was a conversation, whether he identified But oh, look at that. Oh okay, all right, we got Mark Walker calling in. Oh all right, so Mark actually knows the family here. Let me do this Mark, what's going on this morning? Hey, Happy New Year to you and Ross. Yeah, it's a very it still has our community
really. Dale Nicks was an incredible guy, family man talking with his uncle just a couple of days ago their family casey. They have one hundred and fifty eight years of community service community service between the fire departments and the police department here in Greensboro. His his lease specifically what he worked on was protecting victims of domestic violence. So it's a huge loss for Greensboro. Once again, another senseless killing. Greensboro set a record back in November of had many
murders. We've got a great police chief and John Thompson. In fact, we've had three police chiefs in the last seven years. Wayne Scott is another one that was a great police chief. But the community is going to have to engage to shut some of this stuff down. We can't put it all
on law enforcement, but it's a huge loss for our Greensboro community. I get frustrated, and maybe in a way, I'm kind of the people who lash out over thoughts and prayers because in their mind they, you know, many of them believe that the Republican policy leads to this and throwing thoughts and
prayers is too little, too late. But I said there, and I see statements by politicians who I don't feel have law enforcement's best interests, and I hate to already get into this, but it's what's highlighted in all these stories. I don't care what Josh Stein thinks, and I don't care what Governor Cooper thinks in the sense that I haven't seen them be proactive on this
stuff. So no, make a point. Yeah, most definitely, and I think there's evidence to back it up because over the last five or seven years, remember we if the police departments in law enforcement, they had to go through all this non bias training and all the different things that have been implemented, and we're setting records of homicides in our cities when the Salem's another one here in the Triad, and you talked about Durham as well. This
is out of control. It is not the police department hasn't been supported and we've seen this from the highest level. Not to rehash all of this, but former President Barack Obama showed that it's okay to disrespect law enforcement and police departments even before you know all the facts, when he blamed the Cambridge police
officer from some kind of racial bias. This has been happening over the last ten or fifteen years, the lack of respect, and this is the result when you have an eighteen year old young man that can shoot a gentleman, a law enforcement officer that gives so much back this community five times before he ever even hits the ground. That shows you the depth of the depravity of our society when it comes to the lack of respect not just for law enforcement,
but for life itself. The whole scenario. I saw people that were going well, you know, in a way he's profiling. This is the stuff that also kills me. They're going well, you know what he saw is saw he saw three black people in a car in a handicap and he made assumptions. And I'm like, no, he saw three able bodied people
in a handicapped spot coming out with a bunch of beer. And I don't know, maybe they gave him a nervous look, but two of them are quite literally underage and appear to be I would point out, and I'm like, we're going to get into the depths of this crap. Well, we'll strow. You know, while we're just days out of this, I don't know that anyone's learning their lesson. Man. No, I'm a guy that's
a twenty year veteran on the police department. I'm going to trust his instincts, especially when you've got the kind of record that Dale had Sergeant Dale Nicks did. That's the thing. We no longer we give the criminals the benefit of the doubt as opposed to law enforcement. That's what's changed in the last ten or fifteen years, and that's one of the reasons that we're in the situation that we're in today. Yeah, all right, he Mark, appreciate
you calling in this morning. And again, you never you never want to start the new year with a story like this, and and here we are, and who knows what numbers are. We're looking at from a record perspective because now we got to beat last year in several cities. So yeah, well, we appreciate you bringing this up. Memorial services next week, and I know we talked about prayers, but I've talked to the next family.
They're very appreciative of the and acknowledgement from the community. So we thank you for it. All right, I have a good one there, Mark, appreciate it. And uh, let me do this as we'll get more we can get more calls on this on this but yeah, just a little better timeline as to how that went and obviously more details forth coming on April. Second, how did that not hold? I swear I hit the hold there. Well anyway, Uh, but first let's get rayed Stagic if he's ready
to write for the Weather channel. Hey, welcome back. Hey, Hey, how you doing? No? Are we are we declaring you eligible to do the weather? Yeah? Why not? How about that? Huh? Yeah? Yeah? What did I miss? Going back to the Cowboys game? Oh yeah, just clicked. It just clicked. Yeah, I mean yeah, so listen it wasn't for a lucky ninety something yard pass, which it was lucky. Yeah, they win. But listen, I do love and I mean love the element of their being officials and umpires, and I
do like replay to an extent. I mean, we're not talking specifically about this case because who said what to who and when? You know, they probably did and it's probably the wrong call on that, but you know, you hear more and more about more replay. There needs to be more like eventually, like baseball going away from umpire No, no, no, why we want to do that. We want to have this human l of the element into it, don't we, right, No, Jerry Jones can't bribe
an ai so no, well not yet. Anyway, who knows he's looking. He was looking a little, uh, a little a little slower, he looked. Did you watch the ceremony? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, that was pretty cool. That was pretty cool. Now, whether or not their relationship is mended or all, that was just for show, I don't know, but it looked like they got along and they they needed to. So all right, Jerry, and I see that your boys hair is still Jimmy's hair is just still. And can I ask you a question?
And maybe for Ross too, wouldn't you love to have him on your sideline coach and your team? Still to this day, I would love to have who Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy Johnson absolutely, I mean, I think he'd be really good at defending the run, you know, teaching his team to defend. You know, right we were brushing up the middle of the Cowboys. I'm sure he could really defend because he wouldn't want that to happen repeatedly the entire game. Well, I'm just I'm just saying I don't like that.
I'm not going to say I dislike McCarthy. I just love to have Jimmy Johnson back. Anyway. Anyway, a lot of tales to be told this weekend about placing and speaking of events that involved sports. If you are a Tar Heel fan and you are heading into Clemson, a little john for the noon tip off on Saturday. There's a weather element tied to this.
If you're leaving Saturday morning, give yourself a little extra time. It's gonna be wet and it may be briefly icy, especially the further west southwest you go, if you're heading out of Raleigh and heading down into South Carolina going
on to eighty five. I think the interstates are gonna be okay, but there is a little bit of maybe freezing drizzle or light freezing rain, especially as you go further west and southwest out of the state and into South Carolina, and then rain, So either way it's gonna be Slower're just telling everyone, especially gonna try to take one of these side routes or something that everybody
thinks maybe a little bit quicker. Gon'll do it as I would. You just don't know, Yeah, yeah, the fastest whatever, right, yes, the super route. But anyway, until then, we're in good shape. Low fifties today, near fifty tomorrow. There might be a little rain early tonight. Other than that, no problems. Friday looks sunny. We're in the forties and it's Friday night, and Saturday we're mainly rain. Try
a triangle into the mountains. There'll be some snow and ice. There may briefly early Saturday morning be a little bit of freezing rain or like freezing dur but not looking at big accumulations here. If you want accumulations head of the mountains, that's where there may be some problems. Okay, all right, well, well that was a lot. Sorry, Look, some people be digging on that. Man, it'll get up in the mountains, get a little snow up there. But yeah, yeah, it's just the ice that
sucks. So all right, thank you, appreciate it. Yep, there you go. Raced agic from the Weather Channel. All Right, lots to get to. Like I said, normally we'd have the Lieutenant Governor eighth five. We had to move that to tomorrow, so we will obviously still chat with him, and Lord knows, there's enough to talk about, but there will be a twenty four hour delay, so we'll get back into it next
cacoday. Your calls coming up. Hang on. This is one six one FM Talk in the Triangle and News Talk ninety four to five w PTI and the Triad. Oh man, oh man. All right, wait, I just saw this story from the University of Wisconts, Wisconsin lacrosse right there on the Minnesota border on the Mississippi River. They have a little problem. We'll get to that. But went around out phone calls talking about the shooting death
of Greensboro Sergeant Nix. Greensboro officer, Sergeant Nix chatting with Mark Walker there he's a little insight from the family and what an absolutely heartbreaking and tragic story to start the new year with. And we found just a little more detail during the initial appearance, Basically he sees a car, he sees something doesn't look right in a handicap spot. Obviously, you know handicaps are right there,
so you're gonna part close for your getaway. And here comes two out of the store with all the modello and they don't look like they're of age. And even though he's off duty, the sergeant goes over to start some sort of inquiry and is immediately met with a gunfire out the window, striking him five times over beer and you got some people want to play games within and I just I don't know, just kind of feel like the goal is we should look at any contributing factor here and maybe go, hey, could
we do better? Especially coupled with the numbers that like the city of Greensboro itself saw and many others last year. Let me grab this called Lindsey. What's up? Hi? Good morning, how are you good? So I'm calling in because I run the nonprofit back to Bluency right and you may be familiar with us, But what we do is we assist the children and families
of offstars killed in the line of duty. And so with the situation with Sergeant Nix, even though he was technically you know, when you're an officer, you're not really off duty, so he was still performing in the capacity of the law enforcement profession. So we are fundraising right now to help to just the wife and the children of Sergeant Nicks. Okay, well, did you want to tell people like the social media or the website or yeah?
Absolutely so they can find us on Facebook back to Blue NC Incorporated, or our website back to Blue andc dot org. And we do have a GoFundMe listed on both right now. So if you would like to assist the family, please visit and donate if you can, if not, share, and I encourage people to stop by the station. They have a vehicle set up there where you can lay flowers and pay your respects. And this has just been such a chargic situation with the nonprofit. We're hoping to get through the
end of the year with no more law enforcement dusks. And unfortunately, Sergeant Nick's a twenty two year better and lost his life just trying to, like you said, investigate a suspicious situation and he gets so hot and killed over eighty four dollars worth of beer. Yeah, I was gonna say, and I don't this is not too This is not a judgment on his choice to do it, but it's just like he went to go investigate something that's just
so high school kids partying, do you know what I mean? Just like exactly right, you know, something like when I was like, if we were looking at sketching a parking lot, then like the one of the officers may come talk to us. So he's just like, this is just so nonchalant. Are these kids still in beer? I mean? And for it to escalate and apparently escalates so quickly, lindsay, do you I don't have it in front? How many law enforcement officers did we lose in North Carolina
last year? We lost five or five or six officers this last year, and like I said, we always stepped in to assist the department and the family. Sweet tend the funerals and memorials. We provide support for the families. We have a chaplain that's twenty four seven available confidentials. Anybody needs to talk to her. But definitely showing support right now for the family is the
biggest thing. The community coming together and showing the family that the love and the support that we have for Sargeant Nicks and law enforcement all around is definitely helpful at this time. All right, well I again back to blue and see I appreciate you calling in this morning. Okay, thank you, all right, and again our phone number eight eight eight nine three four seven eight seven four. And that's a good point too, because like technically not on
duty, but still performing law enforcement. Remember one of the one of the individuals killed in that the shooting, I guess that was technically this year. I'm trying to do the calendar in my head was folliops Thro who was literally going to work with you know, one of the five people killed by this lunatic who again shot his own brothers. So yeah, it comes in all forms and folks out there helping. So if you're so inclined, feel free back the blue All right, news is next. Hang on, Oh and
it's Wednesday already. I love those four day weeks. Normally, since it is Wednesday and it's the first Wednesday of the month, we would be chatting with Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson, but we did have to move it a day. So bad's tomorrow, twenty four hours from literally right now. Well we'll chat with him, and boyl boy, do I get a laundry list? All right? So check this check this story out. University of Wisconsin lacrosse.
I like rosse lacrosse, a nice little talent. I lived in Minnesota, had a lot of friends down in that area right on the Mississippi River. There. They do get a little bad rap because it's kind of really methy. And there's a YouTube channel called Code Blue Cams which goes really viral because they just have insane body cams. And but but all the camera or
all of the cams seem to originate from like western Wisconsin. So you see a lot of lacrosse people, which is good because some of them are insanely entertaining, like Florida dude However, this is in the world of academia a little dust up. Obviously, we've seen where teachers who have decided, hey, i'll make some more money. How's about we do I don't know. Porton have have been a story, and they are several stories that we have
done, including ones who even filmed in their own classrooms. But you know, just the act of finding it out and then the kids finding it out has undone many a career. Well, this is college and there's a lot more to it. The University of Wisconsin Lacrosse chancellor has been fired because he is a side porn gig. The chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Lacrosse God by the name of Joe Goo, and a professor his wife named Carmen Wilson
apparently have had a side hustle. Looks like most of it was, Hey, here's a couple, and here's her friend, and you know, fred his standard stuff if you will. But they're not mass nothing. And while he does he doesn't mention the University of Wisconsin Lacrosse, it's very clear it's one of the professors and the chancellor. And so now the Board of Regions, the president, Jay Rothman, issued a statement saying they had learned of
the conduct, called the actions abhorrent, and have parted ways. It looks like you'll probably get paid. I mean I feel bad for these educators. I mean they're making no money, and yeah, you have no other choice but to show your boobs or whatever. I mean, it's it's I mean, how much is he making there? You think you know what? Well? Actually, as chancellor, how much? Hold on looking it up because actually I was just thinking that'll be public record. Oh wow, oh two
hundred in sixty two thousand. I mean, you can't live off that. You can't show your lacrosse is relatively you gotta do that much cheaper. It's probably very cheap. So you have no no option, no option. Two hundred and sixty two thousand. Let's see what uh average salary Lacrosse, wiscons. Yeah, it's it's much more blue collar. What is the average salary? Uh forty seven thousand a year is on average with a worker in Lacrosse, Wisconsin makes so and he was making two sixty two and I don't know
what she was making. I love. That's always like the excuse from these people when they get like, hey, we saw your video. We discovered it online. It's like, oh, well I'm making it. I'm poverty right, No, there's no other option in this universe than for me to show my boobs or I don't know, maybe you're a whore, you know, maybe it's that so well that'll be fair. Uh, this guy is a very highly placed horror. Okay, well oh he chance? Oh right, right right right y yeah wife, Yeah, well he's a whore.
They could only fire him because his wife had actually already left the university last year. But uh yeah, so there you go. Yeah, well, I mean they're but they're highly educated horrors. Ross right, because and he has a PhD. So there you go. Well let's see here. Yeah, two hundred and sixty two thousand, gonza? Could you live off that? Probably not? Oh wait, I shouldn't use the word gonzo? Should I could? I? Oh? No? Yeah, this is no way.
Yeah, look what happens. What happens if you make two hundred and sixty two thousand a year and you want to throw a drink in a in a person's face, right, you can't even afford the fine, you know what I'm saying, right, because the five is three thou right, Yeah, And you really make it like that's you would be I would understand to why you would have to. Uh, you know at that point, if you're the owner of the panthers, you got to show your boobs. Gotta
do it. Do you think, what are you? Three hundred thousand? Do you think? He blinks no. Once again, that's one of the reasons you become a billionaire, so you can do stuff like that and not care well like you know, but you should. You still should care about
throwing drinks at people, right, although you want to raise houses. It depends on the person, right, Yeah, And if the three three hundred thousand went to them, like somebody would go from really really upset on the sidewalk to probably just ecstatic, you know what I'm saying, Yeah, you do that at the hidden camera, right, if you're a billionaire. I'm not saying throw drinks at children, but I mean, if there's somebody that deserves it well and fair, like some children, arguably, what and they
take a stand for not throwing drinks at children. What if the children throw drinks at you first? I mean, well that changes everything. What if what if the parent of the child then gets a three hundred thousand dollars check. It's just and it it's it's just a drink. I mean, that'll buy some video games and a PS five. I've just pointed that out right. That's that's gonna be a happy, happy kid if he actually sees some
of that. So I guess the moral of the story is, if you're a chancellor at a at a big major four year university, probably don't do side hustled. Although you know what, I shouldn't say that. I bet if he was the chancellor of the University of California Santa Barbara probably do this. They probably put it in the news. Less I was to say, it's probably part of the gig yep. Yeah, uh well remember that uh that who was the the crazy professor up at Berkeley who was like stalking that
dude. She was doing port and they were all like, uh sh it's so empowering. And I remember, like, I'm like, I wonder why people are in your class. You think everyone's there purely to learn about whatever. I can't remember what the hell she taught was, but anyway, check this out. Benjamin kip Logan, who is a long distance he's a runner, an Olympic runner. Okay, so when did he last compete? Last compete in twenty twelve? Still no, yeah, I'm sorry, twenty twelve
in the Olympics. But he continues to compete and has placed well in the World Athletics Championship actually pretty recently. So anyway, dude was stabbed to death. This is in Kenya. I think he lives in Uganda, but his brother lives in Kenya, which is why he was there, all right,
And so at this point they're trying to figure out who did it. I have a question, es and I don't mean to be insensitive here, but even but even in Kenya, this dude's easily probably what top twenty five fastest people, probably right, if he's still competing at the in the upper echelon, and that's probably he's probably I probably even not even top twenty five,
maybe it's top ten. How do you get stabbed or at the very least, how do you not have a really concise suspect list if you're the police, right, like at this point, it has to be like, well, like Barry Allen or something. Yes, okay, yes, it's the Flash or the other eight people who might be faster than him. We do not know a motive, said the police commander. But we do know it was murder and we are working diligent le to speed up the investigation and book
the killer or killers. So well, I would say this, you probably if you do figure out who it is, you're gonna want to sneak up on them. Okay, don't let them know you're coming or you know, good luck on that. So but uh, yeah, I'm sorry. I don't know why my brain is so horrific and works in that way, but I'm just like, how does he how do you get I don't understand and getting shot, but like your fastest due in the country, like you should.
Probably I need to know more. I guess I suspect there was an element of surprise there, all right, eight sixteen Cacoday radio program, and we got to talk about two things. I'm going to package dal these because I got two stories. One about the first ever official law enforcement investigation into virtual sexual assault. Okay, so that's that story number one. I'll learn
about that and cyber kidnapping. Do you guys know what cyber kidnap? I had no idea, So yes, we'll get into the online weird and even criminal will do it. Coming up next hang on smart talk all day ninety four or five w pt I in the Triad and one six one FM Talk
in the Triangle. No. I had like I had like an hour of downtime yesterday where I just fell into that trap I was explaining to Ross although you knew what it was, you just didn't know about that name, right I. I just think it's in the in the world of trying to make
sense of you know this. I don't say conspiracy theories necessarily, but like, you know, stuff you would hear on art Bells, you know, show George Nori all that coast to coast, right, I think that that's just I don't know if it's a real lazy collection or theory, but uh, it's It's probably one of the easiest things I've ever heard of. It was what ultra terrestrials. Yeah, I didn't know about his name, but once you described it, I'm like, oh, yeah, I know what
that is. All right. So here's the premise. Take all the stuff, Take alien stuff, take ghosts, poulture guys, take demonic possession. And so if you want to if you want to believe in this, basically all of that is just quick little visions or crossovers from other beans that are also here on Earth, but are you know, are so far advanced interdimensionally that they don't like we're not on their plane, they're not on ours.
But occasionally there's bleedover and that's what's people. That's what people see. So everything is all that. So you only have to believe one thing that basically there's like fifth dimension beans that sometimes don't mask or what. I don't know. So, but then you don't have to worry about coming up with explanations for other stuff. I guess so I couldn't believe. I hadn't heard the name of it before then. But yeah, so there's there's something you want
to kill a little time at work today, feel free? All right, two things. I'm going to tie these together. I was not familiar with the with one of these. One of these things, it'll be the second story. So we're all gonna learn something, but let me start here. Police in the UK have opened an investigation into a virtual sexual assault virtual rape after a child was attacked in a virtual reality video game Yes Here We Go.
The girl, under the age of sixteen, was said to have been left distraught after her avatar was and all of this is in quotes, was gang rape by online strangers, while the headset wearing victim did not suffer any injuries as there was no physical attack. For the first time, law enforcement has decided to get involved. Let's see here, now, this was in this was in the meta thing, right, Yeah, it was. I
mean, what the hell are you going to do here? Now? Don't get me wrong, because they had a little they had some like video of this, and you have a you got a bunch of scumbags that fully realizing that at the very least they're emotionally attempting to just be awful to this sixteen year old, but also unplug it. I guess would be my thing. And like I saw people saying that, They're like, oh, you're victim blaming. But I look, I put when I was sixteen, I would
know enough to get out of there. Well, I don't know, maybe I would just run my mouth. You know. Really the big social aspect of video games hadn't really become a thing when I was sixteen. But but yeah, I don't even know how you go about that with law enforcement, and then what constitutes that is it? Now? They would argue that literally making some of the statements that these individuals were making that if they had been
done in public to the sixteen year old, could have been problematic. And also this is in the UK. I think sixteen is the age of consent in the UK. We just had a story that mentioned that. So I don't know what I just because here's the thing. I just get very weary
of expanding law enforcement into more and more digital nooks and crannies. I understand that it's inevitable, right because the way that people do things that may be criminal, and there are definitely cyber crimes that you can commit, but I feel like this one also almost has to have a physical component, because it has to have like an it has to have that element of danger, even if it's just people threatening it. And I don't know that you accomplish that,
especially when you hear the stuff that people will say to each other in other video games where they can communicate. According to new research, they estimate that fifteen percent of kids between the ages of five and ten have or regularly use some sort of virtual headset. I didn't realize it was that much. And I don't even say and I don't see a law enforcement side, really them explain why this one is any different except me speculating on maybe it's the
verbal part, but we'll see. And it's in the UK, so they got silly putty for laws when they want to do stuff, all right, So that was number one that I kind of understand. But then I saw this and this is just a weird story. Here's the headline, missing foreign exchange student found safe intent in Utah in cyber kidnapping. Cyber kidnapping. Do you know what that is? You will, we'll explain it, and we'll have to talk about the now ousting, the resignation of the HAVID president and
why none of it's her fault. And CNN is oh my goodness, wait till you hear the audio coming up. One six one FM Talk ninety four five w PTI, two stations driving the best in talk. This is Casey Ode and Carolina's Morning News. Somebody actually did the map here on what three hundred thousand is to the panthers owner. If you were to compare that to the average North Carolinian, it would be the equivalent of a dollar forty four. So yeah, yeah, I suppose if you want to throw a drink
on somebody. That's almost a bargain man, dollar ross. Would you pay a dollar forty four to hit somebody with a drink? I did, not a kid Obviously we already discussed that. Of course you would dollar forty four man, even especially right now when everything's so damn expensive, that would you would just do it because it felt like a deal. All right, let me get back to this, because I didn't know what this was, and it's kind it's crazy once you have it explained to you. Cyber kidnapping.
So and here's the scenario. The way down seventeen year old I believe he's a Chinese foreign exchange student. Yes, Go's missing. Is the Utah can't find him? Kidnappers had actually contacted his family looks like his family in China, saying that they had him and they wanted to ransom. And I think the family actually threw my mouse on the ground. I think the family actually did pay them something. But eventually he's found. The teens family was not
aware he was missing. There was no signs he was forcefully taken. It was only when they were presented with the hey, he's missing and nobody can get in touch with him, and I believe. The family that he stays with said that they had heard him moving around the house earlier, but they didn't know where he was. Eventually, here's how the scam goes. First, the student is contacted and he is told by cyber kidnappers that he needs to leave wherever he is go somewhere for some period of time, and if
he doesn't, his family members will be harmed. So he's being told that they have the family members, the family members after they get this kid, and what they did, what he did is he went about a bunch of camping gear and went to some camp near Provo, Utah and stayed there for a day and a half. Then they contact the family and tell them, hey, we got them, and then they're unable to find them. And that's it. So nobody's ever physically kidnapped. Two people are just independently threatened
and because they it creates this lack of communication. There you go, excuse me, throwing mouse on the ground, not drinking my water? What are we doing? So yeah, that's cyber kidnapping. I don't know man doing that. Like now we have virtual assaults that people are investigating. It is a crazy, crazy new world out there by the way, the seventeen year old cold scared, but was located inside a tent, like I said, at a campsite near Provo, not far from his house, but enough that
they were able to get you. Well, Boston Paul is like, well, that's not even a full beer. Yes, I'm aware of Boston Paul, that the beers are very expensive there so, and that you wouldn't throw beer because obviously that would be a big waste. Oh, speaking of waste, I'm glad we can get rid of this. And uh, look, don't shoot the messenger. I'm just here to bring you the news. And
the news is we got to cancel something. All right, you're ready, And uh, by the way, Uh, I'm gonna I'm gonna stereotype here, little ladies. I think this is gonna hit you a little harder, but I don't I don't make the rules. Scented candles, Yes, scented candles now gots to go. No, not for racism or sexism or any of the other isms, but rather, according to a new study, they
they're really bad for you. Let's see here. Uh there's a excuse me, I'm sitting here coughing up a long give me a second, probably from a scented candle I encountered over the holidays. According to research from the Animals of Medicine and Surgery, it has now shown that many of the more popular brands have scented candles, So Sugar and Spice, Winter Wonderland, even Vanilla show an increase in vertigo, headaches, respiratory issues, watery eyes, sneezing,
and stuff. He knows and most likely should carry additional warnings for these potential adverse effects. I I feel like you probably shouldn't take any chances here. Ross do you guys do the senate candle thing around the pad? Get some senate candle only to go on into the paltrow once you why did you? Oh? Do you think she has a holiday version of that? Right? Because, like for those of you who don't know, she sells season
entrepreneur. Damn it, How do I explain this? She sells a line of senate candles, but it ain't cinnamon or pumpkin spice or nutmeg or it. The scent is her and a specific part of her. Is this making sense? Yeah? Yeah, that's a scentate candle she sells. I'm just wondering if like in the fourth quarter, right, they're like the Gwyneth holiday candle, Right, so it's still that, but like a little nutmeg or something mixed in there. I don't, I don't know. I didn't reasearch.
Just a bit of gingerbread, you know what I mean, right on top of the normal. Right, You're like, oh, is Gwyneth cooking in the kitchen right now? Pantsless? What's going on? Actually, back in the day, we used to have tons of like those those candles around the house, not Gwyenna's like regular ones you'd get like Yankee candle and stuff. Yeah, I don't think we have any. I think we have like one in the mantle. It's like a joke one. It's it's uh,
it's a unicorn vomit. What what Yeah, it's just a joke candles, that's it's unicorn vomb I don't we've never we've never lit it. I don't know. Hold on, hold on? Could I offer a theory here? Sure? Yeah, what if that you were one of the few people to buy that, but they made a bunch of them and uh, Gwenn, it's like, you know what, what if I rebrand those and then she got us for a deal, right, and then she sells them because she
sells them for like what fifty bucks or something? It breaks out on her goop website yet, STUPI yeah, yeah, yeah, So what if it's just that with a new label on it, because that happens sometimes. How would you be able to know? I means unicorn vomit and her nether regions don't smell the same. I mean, I I I guess, but maybe you'd have to ask the dude from Coldplay. Other than that, I I
don't know how you'd get there. But yeah, Scented candles, according to researchers, significant non disclosed, most short term and potentially long term health risks depending on the brand and airflow within an area. Although you light a candle, generally it's you're lighting a candle in the winter, especially these winter candles, I have a lot of air flow through there. So there you go. Better safe than sorry. No scented candles, So there you go.
Race Stagic from the Weather Channel sended candles, man could be bad for you. Probably don't need those around the house. They're gonna be a problem for the for the Stagic family. You guys, do the Senate candles. Dude. What Yeah, yeah, well they're bad for you. So well, I've been rid of those. Yeah. I've been trying to preach that message
for quite some time now. Yeah, but now you got science. So well, I thought I had signs when you know where the area where you burn the candles in you could see all the black kind of on the wall, are on the ceiling or in the bathroom, it gets on the mirror. Two and it's like, listen, this has to be bad for us. But I'm no, I'm confused here. No, No, I go with the science, right, yeah, all right, well do you got more? Let me know how that goes. Let's get some weather science.
What's happening. Yeah, we're going to science the stuff out of this, especially this upcoming weekend. First major storm for some of the big cities in the Northeast in a couple of years. An interesting fact take this to the water cool with you. New York City hasn't had an inch of snowfall in
Central Park in just about two years. Haven't had over four inches of snow since the twenty ninth of January of night of twenty twenty two, So it's been over two years since they've had a significant plowable snow, and that may happen this weekend. We may get a touch of wintery presepe here, but
I think it's going to be confined into the mountains. We will see clouds increase today, low fifties, a little rain tonight early, and then mid to upper thirties overnight, so chiley start the Thursday, but a couple of good looking days Thursday and Friday, upper forties, maybe fifty for some, especially in the Triangle. And then as we get to Friday night and Saturday, that's really the key where temperatures will be close to or just below freezing.
On the onset of precipitation toward early Saturday morning southwest to northeast, so western North Carolina and the mountains, it probably starts as snow and then's a freezing rain for the Triad, a little freezing rain or snow to start the same thing for the Triangle very early Saturday, but most of us change it rain. I don't anticipate problems from the Triad, East Mountains, places like Ashville and even into Boon, especially accumulating snow and ice, especially higher elevations
where there could be a couple of inches of snow. I mentioned it last hour. If you are traveling to see the Tar Heels in Clemson, just take it easy Saturday morning. If you're traveling, it's a Nune tip off. May want a little bit of extra time to make it down eighty five. I don't think icy on eighty five, but some of those arterial routes as you go wes could get a little bit tricky, so plan on some so travel. Yeah, all right, by the way, you're happy with
the final college final coming up? Or I am not dissatisfied. I'm on the I'm on the side of where Florida State should not have been there. I don't know if Alabama was the right choice, but that was a good game, and so was the other game. I thought, two real good games. The Georgia Florida State game was basically where college football is going if they don't get rid of this portal and declaring all before bull season. I
don't like any of that. Well, we'll see. That'll be one day, but for now, I have a good rest of your day, sir. Sounds good, all right, and we'll come back with Jeff Bellinger. Hang on your day, smarter, ONEm Talk and News Talk PTI more with Casey. Starts now all right, Good morning, eight fifty three Bloomberg up Fate now with Jeff Bellinger. Jeff, what's going on? O? Good
morning, Casey. Stock market closed mostly lower yesterday. The Blue chips did manage a small gain, but right now the futures are lower across the board. Dow futures are down one hundred and eighteen points. Apple shares were down more than three and a half percent yesterday, the biggest drop for the iPhone maker since September. Barkley's analysts downgraded to Apple before the start of trading yesterday, saying demand for the iPhone fifteen appears to be soft and they don't expect
new features or upgrades to make this year's iPhone sixteen more compelling. In uptick and mortgage interest rates and the Christmas holiday wait on home loan demand. Last week, mortgage bankers report applications to finance a home purchase fell more than seven and a half percent, the biggest weekly declined since April. Total applications, which include refi requests, went down nearly eleven percent. Investors and economists expect
the Federal Reserve to start lowering interest rates this year. The big questions are when the rate cuts will begin and how much will rates be reduced. Minutes from the Fed's December meeting come out the this afternoon, and they could offer some clarity. A Bank Rate survey found that economists are split on whether rate cuts will start in the first or the second half of the year. A lot of streaming service subscribers are pushing back against price increases canceling their subscriptions.
The Data analytics Company and Tenor reports about a quarter of subscribers to major streaming services have canceled at least three of them over the last two years. Some services may be willing to make concessions. A Florida resident told The Wall Street Journal she was about to cancel Hulu before it offered her six months of its ad supported service for two ninety nine a month, so she took it and the Starbucks customer's Casey will find some new food choices on the menu this morning.
The coffee giant has added a chicken, maple, butter and egg sandwich and a potato cheddar and chive bait to its menu. Starbucks also has a vanilla being custard Danish on the menu right now, that is a seasonal offering, Casey. And it doesn't even compare to the Biscuitville meat loaf breakfast sandwich down here, man, I meat the pleasure meat loaf, bacon, egg sauce on a Southern biscuit. So you try it. I yeah, I
having to have the pleasure. Okay. I don't think we have that chain in this area, no, no, no, but I just wanted to throw it out there because I did try one. It was good. So thank you, Jeff, appreciate it. Okay, have a good day, Casey. Take care there you go, Jeff Pellinger. Although it is a commitment, right because you'd probably just do the bowl version of it, you get all this stuff because it's also a mess to eat all right. By the way, do you guys see did you see the video of Ramswami in
Iowa? Right? You know, which is standard fair right? Running around? There's always these moments in Iowa like the remember the lady who just wanted ranch dressing, the guy sitting at the diner ignoring Baraco or the Barack Obama Joe Biden. Right, he's just sitting there and he probably was going to ignore anyone, and then that turned into a thing. So the veck sitting there and he's talking. He's not even talking to this dude. He's talking.
Somebody's complimenting his wife. And then there's this this older gentleman and he's in his you know, denim overalls, and he's there and he decides he's going to jump in, and well, here's how that went. She'll be set a good example for children in this country. That's right. You've seen her. Yeah, thank you, thank you. She doesn't she doesn't make a big production out of it. Have axe handles wine either, No, she does her She does her job exactly. Thank you. Which, by
the way, is six axe handles wide. I've just tried to I've tried to visualize it. Actually, I was saying the same exact thing. Is that is that? Like wait, is that super wide? I don't know. I feel like that's like maybe E feel like like like thors like storm breaker, like the big gass axe has like whatever at the end. But is the handle that long? I mean, it's not length, it's width, right, he said, is wide as six right axe handles? Like?
I don't know. I think I'm just trying to like any every action handle like I own a couple like the handle is you know, it's not even it's not even the width of a remote, you know what I'm saying. So like I feel like six of those would be holy with. So I don't know, but uh, you know, thank you, thank you to that guy for at least bringing up this very important discussion. So maybe it's just maybe it's because I've never heard the saying, so maybe there's a
different measurement unit and that would be uh, very very wide. But also yeah, obviously the way he answered, he was sticking with Mornber because I think she's a Yale a Yale PhD for whatever that's worth. But there you go, just you know, the locker room talking, except it's in the line at the coffee shop or wherever they are. All right, there you go. Another one in the books. Tomorrow, Lieutenant Governor, don't forget eighth five. Stephen Kennell joined us too. We got to talk about Star
Wars and their new direction. We'll get into that with the bounding into comics. Guy all Tomorrow's
