Episode description

Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan is a former lawyer, prosecutor, and state representative. As COVID-19 began spreading across the U.S., Detroit quickly became one of the hardest hit cities, and Governor Whitmer was quick to initiate a stay-at-home order and point out the federal government’s lack of assistance to states in need. President Trump fired back with angry tweets and the nickname “That Woman From Michigan.” In the following months, Governor Whitmer experienced armed mobs storming her state capitol, calls for her assassination, and extremists plotting to kidnap and kill her. Governor Whitmer joins Jennifer on the show to discuss the real dangers of Trump’s words, what accountability should look like, and why she thinks she’s getting more criticism than her fellow (male) governors.
