Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot knew the challenges ahead when she was elected to run one of America’s most populous, politically turbulent, and segregated cities. But she never expected a teacher's strike, global pandemic, historic recession, and months-long protests against police violence.

She shares some of the lessons she learned on her journey from growing up in small-town Ohio, to becoming a lawyer in Chicago, and now as the first Black woman and first openly gay mayor of Chicago.
