China's Debt Addiction

In this episode, “Just China” co-host Jessica Breznick sits down with Dinny McMahon, former journalist for the Wall Street Journal and author of "The Great Wall of Debt," to talk about rapidly rising debt levels in the Chinese economy and the failure of the Chinese government to reign in that debt through economic and political reform.

McMahon traces the story back to the global financial crisis in 2008, explaining how shadow banking, the inflated property market, local government borrowing, and other aspects of China’s credit-fueled economy may undermine its spectacular growth - and what this might mean for the global economy.
