So it is day six of our 12 Days of Chaos special bonus series I'm just having some fun with here at Christmastime. If you are stumbling upon the Joy Loving Home podcast, welcome, I'm Joy. Typically, out of season, we are just talking about all things planning, productivity, and organizing, decluttering for moms with ADHD. That does not mean you have to be a mom, and it doesn't mean you have to be diagnosed with ADHD.
But if you're interested in trying to get your home in order and you're tired of listening to type A advice that doesn't seem to work for you, then maybe hang out with us for a while. We'd love to have you. But today we are just rolling through this series that is just a play on the 12 Days of Christmas song where we have a new activity and then we repeat back through all the previous days, just like the song does. And we are on day six and day six is sweeping the floors.
And I was doing an S because it's six swans is swimming, I think. Yeah. So I just thought an S would be fun. But what the goal is here is you're setting a five-minute timer and you're rolling through the days. So if you suddenly have just arrived. To this podcast, you can go back and listen from the beginning. But I will quickly tell you as you're going through, the goal is just set a five minute timer.
Right now we're sweeping the floors, which can be vacuum, it can be a quick broom sweep, whatever. Even have, if you've got littles, they're already closer to the floor than you anyway. If you have one of those smaller little handheld brooms with a tiny little dustpan, you could see if they'll do it for the five minutes with you. It could be a really great time where you're not stressed about it.
You're not trying to do it perfectly. You're giving it five minutes and realizing that in five minutes, things can get better. You don't have to do an all or nothing task here. And then reset your five minutes. And our day five was a five minute tidy of anywhere. Don't overthink it. The first thing your eyes lock on that you wish was a little tidier, do that for five minutes.
Then four was four clear surfaces. I have explained in my group, my podcast community, that I break my kitchen countertops into tiny little chunks. So I have to the left of the sink and the right of the sink as two separate countertops. I have the left of the stove and the right of the stove as two separate countertops.
And if you turn on a five minute timer and just even have a sink full of sudsy water and you just quickly sweep through and drop all the dirty dishes in there and wipe down those four countertops, your kitchen's going to look amazingly better. And if somebody surprises you spontaneously during the holiday season, it looks like you're mid-washing dishes, even if they sit there soaking all day and you just add them to the dishwasher later that night. So be it. We're not looking for perfection with
any of these. Then you move on to a five-minute timer with a bathroom. Maybe peek at the powder room that most people would maybe use if they were swinging through your house. Or if you have guests coming, make sure that bathroom that they're most likely to use is pulled together. Then move on to what I'm calling two fluffy pillows. That can be a making of a bed. That can be a straightening of the couch.
Whatever works for you there. And then I double check of your schedule and I'm just calling that your so that to set priorities and to understand that when you probably have to go back and listen to that day one. But the goal is you make these plans over Christmas. Things can easily be forgotten. We are very good at forgetting to look at plans we've made or lists we've made or what, you know, the digital phone even because we forgot to set an alarm.
Double check all the things each day to make sure you're not missing out on something that you really wanted to do that actually brings you joy because that ultimately is the goal of a joy loving home it's the people it's the just life events they don't have to be dramatic they can be very very tiny but the being present for them is what brings the joy to your home so i hope that these little.
Fun theme-y tidies are enough to help you relax a little into this chaotic season and just enjoy it in the moment you're in. Each day, I'm trying to keep these podcasts very short so that if I am in your ears and you are listening along, it would even be the equivalent of one of your five minute tidies. So if you wanted to bench these, you should be able to just keep listening to each five-minute segment and move from space to space to space. All right.
I will put links to how to join my free community and get the PDF downloads that go along with this. And my membership is currently open. I will have the link to that as well.
