You're listening to the Journal Party podcast, where every week we get together for the ultimate journal jam sesh as we journal through life together as a community. My name's Alex Gallner and I'll be your host, so here's how it works. I'll give you a journal prompt in a groove and you just start writing. After a few minutes, you'll hear a little bell that sounds like this, and we'll move on to the next prompt.
After a couple minutes, you'll hear that bell again, and we'll move on to the next prompt, and we'll just keep going on like that till we're finished. Feel free to write on whatever you like, or even just follow along in your car. If you finish before the bell, you can try to dig deeper and elaborate, or just chill out and enjoy the tunes. Don't overthink it. There's no wrong way to do this. So, welcome to the party. Journal Party. What's up, party people?
It's your host, Alex Gowner, coming back at you with another episode of the Journal Party Podcast. You know, I've been thinking a lot about the importance of standing up for ourselves and advocating for our needs. This is actually coming up from a little tiff that I had last week with a company that I was doing business with and, you know, I thought something was kind of unfair. And so, I stood up for myself until they made it fair, and I felt like a jerk the whole time, kind of.
I was really polite, but I don't know, there was a little part of me saying like, Should you even stick up for yourself? And ultimately, I'm really glad that I did because I got a really sweet deal on something that I was otherwise going to be cheated out of. So, I don't know, weird feelings all around, and whenever that happens, I like to journal about it.
And so, you know, Look, it's not always easy, but it's crucial for our well being and our personal growth that we stand up for ourselves and that we advocate for ourselves when we believe we ought to, when we believe that we're in the right. Not to say that you always need to be right. I think that sometimes it's better to be kind than to be right, but it is good to stick up for yourself. So today, We're gonna be jamming through five journal prompts to help you to explore this theme.
So, go ahead and open up that journal and let's get this party started. Here comes prompt number one. Think of a time when you successfully stood up for yourself. What was the situation and how did you handle it? And what was the outcome? Reflect on how this experience made you feel. Prompt number two. Identify an area of your life where you feel you need to assert yourself more. What holds you back from doing so? And what small steps can you take to start advocating for your needs in this area?
Prompt number three. Write about a role model who exemplifies strong self advocacy. What qualities do they possess that you admire? And how can you incorporate these qualities into your own life? Describe a situation where you felt your needs were not being met. How did you respond, and what could you have done differently to advocate for yourself more effectively? Imagine your ideal self who is confident and assertive. How does this version of you handle conflicts and express needs?
Alright party people, hopefully that was as powerful for you as it was for me. Remember that asserting yourself is important. And advocating for your needs can be a journey and it can take some practice, but take the insights that you've gained today and start applying them in your daily life. If you can't advocate for yourself, then who will? All right. So thank you so much for journaling with me today.
