You're listening to the Journal Party podcast where every week we get together for the ultimate journal jam session as we journal through life together as a community. My name's Alex Gallner, and I'll be your host. So, Here's how it works. I'll give you a journal prompt and a groove, and you just start writing. After a few minutes, you'll hear a little bell that sounds like this, and we'll move on to the next prompt.

After a couple minutes, you'll hear that bell again, and we'll move on to the next prompt and we'll just keep going on like that until we're finished. Feel free to write on whatever you like or even just follow along in your car. If you finish before the bell, you can try to dig deeper and elaborate or just chill out and enjoy the tunes. Don't overthink it. There's no wrong way to do this, so welcome to the party journal party. What's up Party people?

Happy New Year. Hopefully everyone stayed hydrated and has recovered from the festivities in merry making. I know that after any holiday, especially New Years, by the time I've recovered my energy, I'm just chomping at the bit to get back into a productive flow. And of course, the New Year sort of has that process built in with New Year's resolutions. Setting up your resolutions for the new year is an exciting and rewarding experience.

It gives you the opportunity to reflect on the past and make plans for the future. But if you're like most people, your enthusiasm and determination may start to fade after a few weeks. So to help your resolutions stick, I thought that we might as well work through them, like journal prompts. That's right. Get your journals ready because here comes five journal prompts to help you set meaningful New Year's resolutions for 2023. Here comes your first prompt.

What do you want to accomplish this year? What do you want to accomplish this year? Let's continue with prop to number two. What habits do you need to develop? What habits do you need to develop? Let's keep it going with prompt number three. What obstacles might prevent you from succeeding? What obstacles might prevent you from succeeding? Okay, here comes prompt number four, who can provide you with support, who can provide you with support. Okay, and here comes your last prompt of the day.

Prompt number five. How will you measure your progress? How will you measure your progress? And there's that bell. Not bad for our first journal jam session of the year. Huh? Using journal prompts are one of many tools available at our disposal when it comes to creating effective New Year's resolutions. Allowing time for reflection prior to taking action prevents us from setting unrealistic expectations, which often leads us to feel overwhelmed or disheartened come February.

If you've been joining me on the live journaling sessions on journal party.com, you'll notice that I often talk about goal setting strategies. One method that can help is using smart goals, smart standing for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely. Specific goals. Help ensure that you have a clear focus on what you want to achieve.

Measurable goals, provide a way to track progress and determine if you're on the right path or if adjustments need to be made Achievable goals provide assurance that success is possible rather than setting unrealistic expectations. Relevant goals promote long-term motivation and commitment. When they aligned with the important values that you have, they can help inspire action.

And finally, timely goals or time-bound goals can keep you motivated by providing deadlines to work towards, by combining these five components when creating your New Year's resolutions. Will be much easier and more enjoyable to reach your desired outcome. Now, if your answers today lacked any of those smart components, it might be worth trying to rephrase your goal statements, especially if you're going to try to reaffirm them in the future.

Repetition is powerful, but you wanna make sure that if you're repeating stuff, you're repeating the right stuff. For more help with this, feel free to check out our guided goal setting programs on journal party.com. And that's all I got for you today, folks. That's our show. So thank you so much for journaling with us. Hit me up on Twitter and Instagram at @journalpartyOMG. I'd love to hear your thoughts and please send in your requests for different prompt themes.

Please also leave a review and spread the word so that we can make this an even bigger party next week. And I hope you have a wonderful week this week. Party on.
