Jaguar's wide receiver Chris Connolly with us after Monday's practice. Let's start though, Chris with Sunday's practice, first day back outside after the game last Thursday night. I know you stayed late with Nick after practice, probably what thirty minutes after practice? Why was that decision made? It? Would you guys work on and how did it roll into Monday's practice?
I felt like we had a lot of talk about, UM, we had a lot uh things to go through, uh, just about dynamics in the huddle and and about how
the offense as a team responded to some adversity. We had some things that we needed to talk about, some things that we felt like we needed to clean up personally between us, UH, some ways that we we needed to approach it, and just really just talk about how we could make our unit better, UM and how we could grow and really fight through those those tough days.
Did the rest of the receiver stay as well? Or is that just you and Nick was a combination of guys and how did that bleed over into the entire wide receiver room and then the offense as a whole.
It was just you know, Nick and I and we were just talking about you know, what we were going to talk to our groups about, Mike what he was going to talk to the quarterbacks, the tight ends about, and what I was gonna bring to the receivers and and talk about in our meeting about how that we were how we were going to approach it and watch the film today. Um, I think that we responded. We responded well to it today. You know, there's another hot day, another day with a lot of reps um, but there's
still thinks that we gotta we gotta clean up. There's still a lot of competition that's going on out there, and you can't let the heat blind you to the fact that you're competing. You have to be able to fight through that heat, and you have to be able to line up each snap when you don't feel right and make it happen and make it work. And so we got we still got some steps to take Chris
Connelly with a Jaguars wide receiver. You mentioned the reps It seems like the first team is getting a lot of reps in these practices during the week, because at least last week, there wasn't any time in the game for a lot of the first team offense. Here how how different is that compared to other camps you've been in, And like you said, that has to be has to take a little bit of a mental tool for guys who maybe not being used to that many reps. Yeah,
it's a little bit different. You know, I'm used to playing in the preseason. Um, you know, I'm not questioning the decisions that the coaches have made. Um. When you when you don't play in those games and they elevate them out of reps in practice, it's it's tough because you know, in in a game, you at least have timeouts, you have television, you have these breaks, and in practice you're taking these racks of plays and there's not really a break, and so you have to learn to push
through some things. You got to learn how to think when you're tired and just recover even even more quickly. Um, you know, these practices have been tough, but it's been good for us. A lot of reps going in, a lot of film for us to look at, and a lot of things to learn from. How does the defense help you, guys, it's a good, prideful group over there. We know that. Yeah, we know they talk a good bit.
It doesn't seem like they were as chirpy today, but they're still there and they're still very good on that side of the ball. How does that adjustment go and do you guys kind of flip side? Do you talk to those guys some about what you'all are doing and what the DBS can do better and how does that work in the camps? I think yesterday, you know, um,
it was a little chirpy. We had some of the receivers going back and forth with the DBS a little, you know, talking fast making plays and talking to each other. That's one of the things that Nick and I talked about after practice was letting them do all the talking and us just coming out and playing. So today there wasn't a lot of back and forth going on. You know, the defense was chirping, but offense really wasn't say anything. They were just getting back to the hell of getting
ready to run the next play. Uh. Whether or not, you know, coaches or people like the fact that we didn't say anything today, you know, that's that's up to them. You know, that's the choice that we made today that we were just gonna line up and we were gonna focus on the things that we had to focus on um and and compete, and we gotta get better at that. We gotta continue to get better at that. We gotta let our play speak for us and not just not
just our mouths. All right, what's left for you this week and uh in the next week or so of camp after this step coming pre season game personally for you to get done here personally, Uh, just continue to hone in on what my part is in the in this offense, being able to affect the defense from the short side, really keeping my conditioning at a peak level to where I can be a factor in these games.
And be ready for that first snap that we have against Kansas City, you know, acclimating to this heat, um and just being ready, being ready for anything uh any looks that we can get on the outside and uh, keeping keeping our offense focused and trained on the mission of the day to day grind what we have to practice, what we have to get better at daily. That's gonna make us better in the long run. Good to see you appreciate your time. Thank you
