In this new look defense with a bunch of new faces around him, and we'll go around the National Football League, including an addition in the a f C South the Jaguars will have to contend with for the foreseeable future twice a year. Let's get to O t A S Week three. By the way, no Jeff Logaman today. He'll be back with us next week, and he's obviously with us each week here on Jaguars Happy Hour. He'll be with us again next week during the mandatory minicamp portion

of the off season program. But it's still week three of the organized team activities and the Jaguars we're back in the practice field again today. O t A Number ten is scheduled tomorrow. We had a chance to go see them on Tuesday, and you know, one access point a week during organized team activities next week, all three of the mini camp practices are scheduled to be open to the to the public or to the public, excuse me,

to the media next week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. So we'll get a good look at the media, will not the public, don't take that literal. Uh, So we'll have a good chance to see three consecutive days of practice. With that one day a week window, you get just a little bit of look at you know, one day's worth of work, two hours worth and that's about it. So you don't get a really great idea of how the guy is progressing from day to day, moving up, moving down, whatever.

And you know Herbert Meyer discussing this time of year earlier this week on Tuesday afternoon after practice. You know, everybody's focused in that one day out there of who wins this rep, who makes the interception keeping statistics all that well for Urban Meyer and the coaching staff, and then there's there's not much of that going on at

least early in this offseason. We don't want to create you know that the whole idea of Phase three with what's with what we're in should not be uh I don't we We gotta really toned back and and make sure the guys aren't launching themselves after the ball and all that. So it's all about not losing the strength. Gangs and uh speed games were made in the offseason, installing an offense and then trying ext you this is not about winter loser right now at that time is coming,

but not now. That's a big difference for Urban Meyer from college in spring bowl and college pads are on. You're you know, you're working through the depth chart and its competition throughout for roster spots and depth chart placement moving into the fall after the summertime. So spring you're hitting, you're tackling, you're doing all these things against your teammates.

Not so in the National Football League. So as you heard Urban say, they're just taking it easy for now, seeing getting things installed, and then they can crank it up once the heat of training camp gets your moving ahead. Trevor Lawrence at a minor hamstring issue Tuesday. He was out on the practice field all practice, but did not participate in some of the later drills. Through a couple interceptions,

uh four interceptions. As a whole, we saw out there from the Jaguars quarterbacks, by the Jaguars defense Lawrence and miss you, miss you or the ones that threw them. The secondary getting some guys back, which is good news at least not on the team work yet, but doing some individual stuff. C J. Henderson, Tyson Campbell were both

out there in individuals on Tuesday. That's a good step in the right direction for those guys and a conversation we had earlier this week on the Huddle Up podcast on the Jaguars Official podcast network is the layers of this Jaguars defense. They feel like they could have a playmaker, a Pro Bowl caliber player at each level of that defense, and that's what you really strive for putting a roster together. Josh Allen, we'll hear from him coming up, could be that guy on the edge if they can get the

pass rush go him and get the run stopped. This year, they feel like Miles Jack can be that in the second level at linebacker with maybe a new role and where he's going to fit in this Joe Colin defense this year. And on the back end, c J. Anderson was drafted to be that a top ten cornerback who has not been on the field lot in his first season. Last year as a rookie, had his best game in his first game and he never really reached that level

again for a number of reasons. Had a shoulder issue and then was banged up and throughout the season and then just didn't play a lot of games last year. If he has his head on straight ready to go for training camp, he could be at that level that they need and there's also a revamped secondary around him as well, with a lot of big names guys coming back and a bunch of new faces coming in on the defense. So good to see those secondary guys getting

back or getting some work for the first time. In Tyson Campbell's case for the Jacksonville Jaguars, let's discuss wide receiver. You know, last week DJ Chark was the focus of the media coverage because he was available after that practice last Thursday and now charts entering a big season. Of course, we heard from head coach Urban Meyer on charts expectations and an early conversation between Meyer and d J Chark. He didn't play well last year and and uh, obviously

his first year he was very good. I just didn't like the his size is strength, I didn't, you know. I just thought it was way below average, way below what we expect from our receivers. And he was told that. And the best thing I love about Dj as he addressed it and hit it very hard, gained seven pounds of muscle. He's playing a much more physical game. He's a big guy that played little last year, and that

can't happen, you know. You know, guys like Mike Thomas and uh Lewis Murphy are those big, strong, fast receivers and he's got to play big and strong and he can now because he's he is big and strong. So I just had a ironically a good meeting with him as we walked off the field. We can't lose that strength and our games that he made in the off season,

and um, he's committed to deal with the summer. That's a quite a candid conversation in the comment from the head coach in the media strom at least over Zoom the other day. How did DJ Churk take that well in a positive way? I like it. I love the challenge. Also, you know, told coach that I'm like that, you know, uh when I go out that ball. So I love talking to coach My He's a he's a competitor. He's gonna push me, but he also know that I'm gonna you know, I'm gonna do what I do. I'm gonna

step up, I'm gonna make plays. Uh. If you know he's getting me good advice to him to go get in the right room. By get in the right room, I put the weight on. But you know, I know, you know I'm I'm once again him like that. So but you know, I love I love man. He pushed me to be better than what I am, you know, so to make him happy, you really gotta be bawling, you know So you really gotta so I gotta step it up to make him happy film me. But it's

definitely good push. I like having a guy like that alpha that's gonna push you to be an alfa as DJ Shark. He is now entering season number four and if you're watching on Jaguars dot Com, you see his totals the previous three seasons. His rookie year only fourteen catches, a hundred and seventy four yards, had a bunch of drops in that season as well, but he was really shining on special teams. That was really where he made his mark in eighteen. Couldn't really find his sea legs

in the offense that year. But then you fast forward to twenty nineteen and fourteen starts, fifteen games of action, a thousand yards and chains receiving eight touchdowns, a Pro Bowl nod, and then last year back down a little bit and as he heard over Meyer say, he was

a big receiver that played little that can't happen. He you know, only had fifty three catches out of ninety three targets a season ago, for just over seven hundred yards, five touchdowns and in certain an inconsistent offensive season through the air. Considering what was happening last year at the quarterback position with three different players starting um parts of the season, to to have seven hundred yards and five touchdowns, I think was quite an achievement for last season. But

there are bigger things obviously, contract years coming up. D J. Chark is a guy who can be a pro Bowl level receiver. We'll see if he can take that challenge to heart from head coach Urban Meyer. So the Dog Days of otis now one more on the schedule tomorrow. Um, you know, it's hot, it's that time of year. It's

the Dog Days, same thing over and over. One more week of the off season program with mandatory minicamp coming up next week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, close to the public, open to the media, and we'll have coverage here on Jaguars dot com. Some breaking news from Jaguars PR today the announcement of the personnel staff for the Jaguars one just a moment ago, of course, we know that general

Our guest on Jaguars Happy Hour today is CBS Sports senior writer Pete Prisco, who always has professional dress, a smile and a pen. Pete, Good, afternoon,

Jets flying the plane solo. Huh yeah, strap in and hang on. It's gonna be a rough flight, I think today, Pete, what's up man? Well good, we're hanging in there the off season program. We've got one more week until vacation time. Pete. Yeah, I'm gonna be there Monday. Are you coming? Yeah, star studded event. Yeah. I mean, look, I went to Tampa on Monday this week and I'm gonna go to Jacksonville next week. So yeah, it's it's it'll be fun. I can't wait to see the team out in the field,

to see the new regime. It's the new culture of the new Asian culture is the words. You know. Yogurt has culture to Pete, but it is something when a new staff comes in, they have to establish it their own way. Um, it feels like there is some change around here. Though. It does happen when there's a new staff. This one feels a little different though, with Urban and the way he's going about it and the quarterback and everything going on there. This one just has a different feel,

do you agree? Yeah, And I think there's a lot of good will, uh, you know, being sent to Jaguars away from the national media, which usually don't see. And it's understandable because they have their generational quarterback. They have a head coach who's got you know, titles in college and granted he hasn't done in the NFL, but it's just football, and he's smart enough to figure it out. So yeah, there's a lot of reason for optimism. And

and I'm I'm one of them, you know me. I'm a quarterback guy, and I think they have their guy for the next decade. I've said it on our shows down here many a time. I think if they don't win a Super Bowl in the next in fact, I predict they will win a Super Bowl in the next ten years. And if they don't, it's a it's a major major disappointment. Pete Friscoe with a CBS Sports senior writers just wanting to see on Jaguars Happy Hour, you know,

the league adjustment for Urban Meyer. This this off season is one way to really start it. Because in the off season in College Pete, they have pads on, they can hit each other. They're working guys spring practice and and seeing who's on the depth chart and rearranging guys on that depth chart. Here, there's there's none of that, right.

You have to kind of tone it back a little bit and maintain And I think Urban has been really transparent on on a lot of his media conferences about that about players and talking about what guys really need to work on individually to the media. I think he's been I don't know if it's been a I guess it's been a little surprising. I don't. I didn't. I wasn't expecting that much transparency from Urban. No, I wasn't either.

But when you really think about him, I said this to many a guy date back Conflin at every young coach I talked to in the league, it's just football. It's not that complicated. Yeah, it's important, and when you play the games, you know, winning and losing the most important thing. But you know, trying to be one of those guys that hides all these things and everything. They eventually come out. And so for that standpoint, I think it's the breath of fresh air and I think it's

a good thing. And I think urban Meyer he's not calling his players out per se. He's putting it out there and saying, look, this guy needed to do this, this guy needed to do that, and we're getting him in the right direction. And then I like that. I think it's a good move for the Jaggards. I think it's a good move for urban Meyer to analy it

that way. Yeah, he's not calling guys out, because if if it wasn't successful the suggestions he would, let's say d J. Chark didn't put on the way, we wouldn't have heard about that. I think, you know, he's only he's gonna gonna give you the successful story so far, I think. Yeah, And and look that makes him look good too. And let's be honest about it. If d J. Chark was told to put on weight, he's put on weight.

That's a good sign for urban Meyer. So you know how, you know how I feel whatever is good for me is good for me, and and that's good for him. And so I think keeps showing that, Look, I can get these guys to respond to things. I want them to respond to it, and so I like it. I think it's a good way to go about it. Again, I think motivationally and you know, organizationally and everything else that is not going to be an issue for Urban Meyer.

And he's never been a next nose guy per se, So I think it's gonna be good to see him. I'm lean on his coaches, and I think that's basically what you're gonna do, and that's a smart thing to do. Pete Briscoe with a CBS Sports senior writer here on Jaguar's Happy Hour. You know, everything we've heard from Trevor Lawrence, and we haven't heard a lot quite frankly, in the offseason yet. He has just hasn't been out there a lot in front of the media since the off season

program has started. But everything you've heard from him has been as advertised, and what little we've seen of him, Pete, has been as advertised. To the ball comes out, he has a pretty good idea of where it's going until the two interception day the other day, which was widely reported. Um, he's got a little hamstring tweak, but everything, all those boxes that were checked are really coming to fruition that feels like here in the off season. Well, I mean

he is the real deal. I mean all you have to do is watch it. I mean he's a he's a gun slinger, he's got the big arm, he's a big kid. He's played, uh, you know, and I thought he was missed cast sometimes in that Cleanson offense. But I think you know, if you put them in a different offense, when you're throwing them around a little bit more and not running as much, I think what you

looked even better. So when you have that guy, JP, you're a generational and sustainable success and that's what you need. That franchise has never had that. They've never drafted and developed their own guy. Uh. You know, they tried, but Mark Ronell came in and you know in a trade, he wasn't drafted. Uh you look at some of those other guys. You know, they tried with Blaine Gabbard and Byron Leftwitch and and the rest of them. But nobody's

been drafted and developed into a star player. And I think that's what you're looking at now, and that's why it's sustainable. Well, on the defensive side, Pete, this is a rebuilt group pretty much all the way around the interior of the defensive line. They were awful last year against the run. That was a priority for urban Meyer in the off season and Trent Balky to to get that fixed. And the secondary is fully revamped for the most part, except I mean j Henderson's coming off an injury.

But everybody else the projected starters that the Jaguars happy. Our projections say that four of the five secondary starters could be new to the organization this year. And they've added a couple of pieces at linebacker too. And you got Joe Cohen running the defense now, changing the scheme up. What is this thing going to feel and look like? Can can this defense right away with all that new get it going? It's gonna be a challenge to get

it going. I think when you look at it, I mean, it's it's easier to sit there and say, Okay, they got some better players, it's gonna be a better team. But but I don't think you can say that just you know, it's got to come together. One thing, I do think they're gonna be tougher upfront. I think they're gonna be faster across the board, and they will play faster. You know, those second year players are gonna play without thinking as much, and I think they're gonna look that

much better. And and you know, I think the defense fits with what they have. I think Alan standing up and Chase On standing up. That's the right thing for those guys. So it can't be any worse on that out of the ball. And you know, will they go to be a top ten defense? Probably not. Can they get to fifteen eight teen cornings? Yeah, And that's a step in the right direction. Then you try and figure it out the next year. See, you can't getting that

top ten. Joe Cohen is finally getting a chance to push the buttons and I love that, Pete, I do too. All right, Look, I can't wait to see what Joe does. He's a good football coach. He's been good for the defensive line wherever he's been and now he's got the challenge of trying to, you know, put it all together on a on a defensive coordinated and I think Joe's

a good coach. You'll figure it out. You know, He's got to have some you know, leaning on those secondary guys a little bit because it's not those aren't positions that he's coached, but he's smart enough. It's you know again, I always go back to a j piece Gas football, and if you've been around the game a long time, you can figure it out. And Joe Cohen's a smart guy. He will figure it out. Pete Priscoe with a CBS

Sports senior writer here on Jaguar's Happy Hour. I'm sure Pete, you saw the renderings for the shipyards and the football Performance Center outside t i A bank Field. If it's approved, it will open in twenty three. How far behind are the Jaguars and the arms race if you will in the NFL. It seems like this could catch them up in a hurry. Yeah, they're dragging. I mean it's been dragging for a long time. And I go back to even when I used to cover to that team and

and they didn't have their own facility. And when you don't have your own facility, a guy like me, a beat guy, can stand out there on the public property and wait for players to come out and stand and talk to him. It was great for me. It's not great for the players because stands could stand out there as well and ask photographs. Now you will have a secure facility where they come out. They go in through a gate, they come out through the gate, and off they go. And not only that, you have a lot

more space. They don't have enough space in that facility. And and you've been around the league, You've seen Minnesota and with that monstrosity is it's a beautiful facility, Dallas. Uh, you know all of them. And you know in Miami, Miami's building one over by their stadium right now there's cold be done for the start of their training camp. So I think when you look at it, you have to have it. Uh, it's a smart thing to do.

And people say urban Meyer got it done, maybe instantly a little bit, but it was gonna get done anyway. That thing has been in the work for a while. Okay, Pete. Our final thought with you today, Julio Jones has joined the Tennessee Titans in a trade. So, as we do most Mondays during the season, we now need your a FC South power rankings on June tenth one, What do

you got for us? I'm going with the Colts still at number one, the title at number two, and the gig Wars is number three, and the Texans a distant number four, and and yeah, I do. I Look, I still think it comes down to playing defense. I don't think the Titans have made that many improvements on defense, and Bud du Free can line it up the pass. I remember they had nineteen sacks they the Jaguars didn't have.

You know, they didn't have his few as the Jaguars did, but they had nineteen and they didn't rush the pass of a team that was in the postseason. You got to knock the quarterback down. So unless they showed me green improvement that area, I still think you're gonna score a lot of points, which they did last year, They're gonna have to be better on defense. Who do you who do you cover? Who do you put on Julio?

Who do you put on a j? Brown? If you're the Jaguars, yeah, I think you know, I don't think you're gonna play a lot of single But you know that's the problem. If you play them now and you don't you play zone, you play off, you're gonna have to get that guy or you know that running back's gonna get going. That's why I think the improvement of the guy's down guys are gonna be big for that defense. I mean, whether it's Hamilton's taking a step up. I think Roy Roberts and Harris is gonna be big. You

got to choke off the run. If you can stop the run with you know seven in the box, then you can double, you know you, whether Julio or or A J. Brown. And remember Johnny Smith isn't there and that's a big hits to their office as well. So yeah, it's it's if you. If he's pounding on you, boy, I'll tell you what. You're gonna bring the eighth man down. You're asking for it. Yeah, let's let's avoid the Derrick Henry highlight reel this year if at all possible. Pete,

it is nice to catch up with it. We'll look forward to seeing you on Monday at practice. You got it all right, JPT. Pete Prisco, CBS Sports Senior writer, joining us on the program, co host of Jaguars Happy Hour on Mondays during the season with Tony Boselli and yours truly. Looking forward to Tomorrow night and Saturday night here at Daily's Place with Todsky Trucks

fireside Live. You know, they were the first band to play a paid gig here at Daily's Place, so they will not be the full band though they're having pieces

of Twodesky Truck's Band tomorrow and Saturday night. They recently did a pay per view series of about six shows that they recorded at their home and a couple other spots with pieces of the band, either Derek Trucks and Susan Tadeski together by themselves, or a quartet with the bass player and drummer and a couple other singers would jump in keyboard occasionally on these pay per view runs and they went very well, so they're gonna make the tour out of that, so each night could be a

different ensemble on stage. Um I asked Derek earlier this week with what kind of tricks do you have up your sleeve, and he said, well, the trick is, you know, it'll be a trick if we can remember how to play. The last time they played in front of an audience as Tadsky Truck's Band was February twenty nine at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. UM Trucks was with the Allman Brothers or the remaining pieces of the Allman Brothers is at Madison Square Garden March tenth of that year. It

has been a while. We're looking forward to it Tomorrow night. Tickets available still ticket Master dot com or visit Daily's Place dot com. Tomorrow and Saturday night eight o'clock the showtime at Daily's Place. Welcome back, Jaguars, Happy r J. P. Shaddrick with you, Glad you're along with us today. Jeff log Human out this week. a a bank field part of the offseason program. Well Josh Allen, it'say his third year in the National Football League. He's coming off a disappointing eight games played last year. Was banged up a little bit, but it's time for him to get back to that pro bowl form he flashed a couple of years ago as a rookie. And the other day after Tuesday's practice, we had a chance to sit down and get into Josh Allen's head about everything new around the Jaguars. And his expectations for the

defense moving ahead week read organized team activities. We got to go out there on Tuesday and take a look at you guys. The energy still seems to be there with this team in a voluntary period. Why is that, man, he just got a lot of I don't know. We're just hungry, you know what I'm saying. We want to win. We want to win now, and uh, we just want to get adjusted to everything. You know, we got a whole bunch of new players, whole bunch of new coaches have so the only way to to really flak, you

can play together is to be together. So I'm just excited to be a part of this and uh just to be you know, I'm just excited to see how it's going forward too. So a few weeks ago, we heard the urban Meyer discuss his early interactions with you and how he immediately loved your personality and the way you went about your business and what you could bring to this football team. What was your first initial impression of Urban Meyer? I go on the other way. Oh yeah,

oh yeah, you know what I'm saying. I gotta he got to meet my wife and uh, you know, just to be you know, I met him outside of football first, so I got to see him as a person, and as soon as I met him, I was you know what I was saying, it was all good. I was like, Okay, we we we we might you know, we might be in good hands. And then once he got into football, man, I was like, Okay, we're definitely gonna win. You know,

I'm saying. If it's a buying method and if you buy into what he's saying, uh, you know what I'm saying, the sky's the limit for us. And you know what I'm saying, we got a lot of guys buying in. As you can tell. We have you know people here you just said, So as long as we stay tuned and stay focused, I think we're gonna be. You know, we have a real good shot this year, a great shot defense. Joe Cullen's a coordinator. Your first time around him.

We've had him around here in years, passed a long time ago, but good to have him back in Jacksonville. He obviously brings the energy every day, but when it comes to meeting room time and scheme and defense, how different will this feel on the defensive side of the football this year? Oh Man it's gonna feel great just to just to change the scheme up. That's gonna benefit

a lot of the guys that we have now. Uh, you know already you can tell the difference between just how we're going to apply the pressure and just having that excited having that excitement he that he just carries on to everybody else. Not only that he's just bringing it, but the d line coach, the safety coach, a linebacker coach, and that's it's gonna bring it to the players. And

now everybody's playing with that juice. Everybody's playing with that enthusiasm, and you know, it's gonna be real fun this year. It's gonna be real fun this year. I'll tell you that disappointing was last season for you personally. I know you missed a bunch of games last year, and just as a key member of this organization. One in fifteen

is not good for anyone's resume. How motivating was all of that coming back from the injury one of fifteen, all the change to make this offseason right moving ahead in be on because it's only gonna make it even better for this year. Uh, you know when and when, like you said, winning one game last year was a you know, it was it's just not good. Nobody wants to do that, and it's just all about what the

jack is gonna do? What's Josh gonna do? You know what I'm saying, What what's coach maner is gonna do. It's always it's always that thought until you get to that game one, until you get to that game to to you all way to the super Bowl, that's when people are gonna realize, Okay, we bought that business. And that's how you forget that season and you move on to this one. And now it's gonna be like, Okay, where do they go after? Where do they go from? Now?

Like what growth are they gonna make after this and then after that? So you know, we brought a lot of pieces here that's gonna help us get there. Uh you know, we had a great drive class. We dropped a lot of great generational players and decided to see them play and uh, you know, we brought coaches that you know, just there for the players and I want to win now. So having all those pieces, uh, is this key, this assess and we're all buying it. Like I said, We're gonna have a real good season. You

mentioned some of those additions. There's a lot of change on this defense. Um draft picks you mentioned, but free agency, it's nearly a fully revamped secondary. The interior of the defensive line, a lot of those guys are brand new. They've added some pieces of linebacker as well. How difficult, challenging, um exciting is it to learn a bunch of new guys on your team and teammates on and off the field. And how much of a process is that for you a guy who's been around here for a few years.

I mean just being around these guys in the locker room talking, you know, I think we talked more about individual like life like in the locker room morning we talk about football. This scheme. It's always like how you doing, how your family doing? Oh what are you staying? Like? Oh, like you know what I'm saying. We're doing the same thing. You've got kids. I got kids. So just having that connection with people who's only gonna make it feel like, Okay, I want to play even harder for you because I

know the situation you and I know the situation. You know. I'm man, so you got know you're gonna want you don't line in my back. So it's really more of that, more of that family, more that you know, close connection, more than just okay, you my teammate, you know what I'm saying. And once you have that, once you can look to the right and look till you left and you see guys that you just met, that's gonna lay laid on the line for you. You know what I'm saying.

It makes you just want to play hard, It makes you want to really, you know, sell out. So I'm excited to be you know, I'm descided to be a part of this team and excided to see a part of his change. And you know it's gonna be It's gonna be fun. It's gonna be fun. Can't let an interview with the Jaguars player go by without asking about the number one overall pick, Trevor Lawrence and your interactions

so far with him. You know, you're you know, obviously on different sides of the football, but what has he shown so far in that locker room? And you know, your first round pick to high pick, how challenging is that coming into this new environment and with all that pressure on his shoulders, he certainly has to have something, Uh, I mean pressure, I think he was, you know, built

for pressure. I feel like his whole career, high school, college and now you know what I'm saying, it was all it's just all set up to be, you know, set up for him. So you know, I'm excited. I'm also you know, we're not in the locker room together, but I do. We do see each other when we eat food and when we see in the training room, so I do catch up and do talk to him, and you know, just here, just here the growth that

he's making in and what he's most excited about. Man, it's just you know, what I'm saying gives you goose from HMS a little bit. So I'm excited to see him, you know, to see but for him and to see as well as you know what I'm saying, that he has the other side has to play just as you know, just as well. So not only is he helping us out, we have to help him out, We have to help

the offense out. So you know, so as long as we can do that, as long as we can play off each other, because I know we're gonna put points on the board, So as long as we can keep that down and keep them going up and that's how you know what I'm saying, I are he gonna light it up. So I'm excited to see can this team win now? You kind of mentioned it earlier that you guys feel like that you need to win pretty quick? Here? Can you turn it around from one in fifteen? And

what are the expectations? Maybe not wins and losses this year the totals, but can this be a winning team fast? I truthfully believe we can win now. Uh, and I truthfully believe we have the players to do so. Just at the players, you know what I'm saying. And now we have the coach of staff that can you know what I'm saying, I can develop us and I can get us to where we need to be. And that's gonna put us in a reposition uh to seed it is only gonna make it even better. Uh. So I do.

I do believe that we're winning team now and I feel like but it's it's all with us. You know what I'm saying. I'm not worried about and like we're not worried about any other team. We're not worried about any other player who we gotta play against or what. You know what I'm saying we're focusing on us. We're focused on you don't say when the time getting We're gonna focus on game one, in game two, in game three, in game four, all ways to tow the boat. That's

how call it. I said, mind sat a long. We could keep that and come to practice and practice as far as we can every play. It will be good. I'm excited about You're a good man. I appreciate your time, Josh, Thank you, you great man. We out indeed Josh Allen Jaguars defensive end and linebacker. Always a fun conversation with one of the great personalities and the football players for this organization, and we're excited to see him get back to that level he was in his rookie season and

even higher. His his ceiling is uh the sky. I think he could be a fantastic player, especially if this defense can figure out how to stop the run and get into pass rushing situations more often and give him and guys like Caleb and chaise On a chance on the outside to try to get home to the quarterback and get this defense really humming. I think he could have a big, big season. It goes both ways. To you, you gotta get the offense going to help out the defense.

Vice versa more consistent offensive play could help the defense have a little more breathing time on the side and get back out there fresh and ready to go. But we're excited to see what Josh Allen and this defense has in store here in one. We'll come back in a moment and go around the National Football League. of the Jacksonville Jaguars. I know Julio back from the day's coaching against him when he was at Alabama, so I saw that I'm not jack to see him in our division there, But uh, but yeah, that's always been you look at our history, Mike, that's similar that that's you. You go to war without, you go to the games without some legit corners, you're in trouble. And and depth because those are the physicians get banged up a little bit, so you know Tyson. And then also the free agency

with jack you know CJ's gotta get healthy. And so we got a little more depth there than certainly had a year ago. Urban Meyer on Julio Jones jouinning the Tennessee Titans and the Jaguars response. Moving ahead, Welcome back at Jaguars Happy Hour. J P. Shatrick with you, Jeff Loghman out this week. We'll be back with this next week.

And yes, next week is mandatory minicamp Monday Tuesday Wednesday on the practice fields just outside t i a A Bank Field our thanks to Pete Prisco who joined us earlier. He'll be at practice on Monday. It would be good to see Pete. Bucky Brooks will be in attendance this week as well. He's coming across from l A to

take a look at the Jaguars. So a lot of folks and plenty more I'm sure in the media world will descend upon Jacksonville next week to get their last look at the Jaguars before the offseason break, and if you're looking for a way to stay active and eat healthy, you can join Jack's alumni players as they teach football fundamentals and join members of the Roar as they make their favorite dairy snacks. and fuel greatness from anywhere. Let's take a look around the National Football League and start off with Julio Joe Owns. The Titans traded a second round pick and a twenty three fourth round pick to the Falcons for Julio Jones at a twenty three six round pick. So now the Titans have Jones, A J. Brown, Derrick, Henry, Bryan Tannehill is probably the happiest man in Music City these days. But as Pete Prisco said, what about that defense in that pass rush? That will be the key for the

Tennessee Titans. Moving ahead. Now, by the way, you you heard Urban there talking about facing Julio Jones at Florida. Here's Julio's numbers against Florida with Urban Meyer coaching two thousand eight in the SEC Championship game, five catches a twenty four yards against Florida. Two thousand nine. That was the game Alabama one. Julio I had two catches for twenty eight yards in that game, not much going there. And then the next year in the regular season had

four catches for nineteen yards. So that big monster two thousand eight SEC championship game won by Florida. By the way, Julio had a big, big game against Urban Myron. Of course, he's had a big, big career in terms of numbers. Could be a little bigger though, that could be argued he's been banged up a little bit the last couple of years and didn't have a lot of touchdown numbers over the last few seasons. But he also said today

he's telling those questioning his health to quote, stay tuned. Well, I'm gonna say that we'll see what happens. We get to see him twice a year now in the a f C South, staying in the division. Texans coach David Culley said the Texans will not hold mandatory minicamp next week. Quote We've accomplished what we wanted to accomplish. End quote. Apparently the attendance has been pretty good in Houston so well,

except the quarterback. He's not there. Um They've got a lot of new players, new coaches, new scheme, and someone down in Houston are scratching their heads for this decision to do away with the final three practices of the off season program. But team officials met with the player leadership apparently recently and reached an agreement to not conduct them any camp because of the high attendance at the

voluntary portion of the off season program. A lot going on in Houston this off season, but a mandatory mini camp will not be one of those things. Chiefs guard Kyle Long suffered a lower leg injury. It could keep him out of training camp. He retired a year or so ago due to a string of injuries, and his final two years in Chicago played a total of just twelve games. He's making a comeback bid, but that is now in question after his leg injury. Justin Field signed

his rookie contract with the Bears this week. He is the first of the first round quarterbacks to inc a deal four years, eighteen point eight million dollars total, eleven million dollars signing bonus and a fifth year option, as all first round players have. The Jaguars have a number of draft picks signed already. This is that time of year where they'll start coming in at the end of the off season program, maybe even into the first week or so. No, no more of this holding out business.

There's not a lot to hold out for anymore. Maybe some minor details, especially for the high picks. Trevor Lawrence will probably have some details to really work out and it won't take forever though. It's really not even news much anymore because all these salaries are slotted, especially in the first round. So you'll see some more Jaguars players, I'm sure in the very near future, have their contracts signed, sealed and delivered. And the vaccination efforts around the league continue.

Washington coach Ron Rivera brought in a vaccination expert to try to convince players to get a COVID nine team vaccination. Well. Bruce Arians of the Buccaneers was asked if he would you're the same thing, and he said, quote, I'm the specialist. End quote. If you want to go back to normal, get vaccinated, he said, is what we're shooting for. He said, it's still a personal choice, but I don't see her

reason to not be vaccinated. And we'll see, you know, the the players Association is not making it a requirement, so, um, but is the threshold to really open things up around the building avoid the masks and all that. Um, we'll see how many teams get close to that. But there you have it. There's our look around the National Football League. Joe Fortunado joining us Now, Hello, Joe. Usually I'm not, you know, coming in your commenting on stuff, so you're

always walking well, thank you, thank you. I appreciate the fact that maybe you had great previous can't participation, but all the surface isn't used in one of those teams that you would think would need more practice anybody. I think that's why a lot of folks in Houston are scratching their heads that, you know, apparently they got it down. No quarterback, new offense, new defense, half the team's new new coaching staff. But they've done enough. I guess I

don't know. Okay, don't stay in our division. We'll take it. I guess right, we'll take all the help we can get. I don't know. It just seems like a rough one there, and um, but hey, it's a it's their world down in Houston. We'll see what they can do in the months ahead. But it has been a rough and rocky offseason down there in Houston as well. By the way, um, Kyler Murray, apparently it's keeping the door open for baseball.

He was the first overall pick in twenty nineteen by the Airs on the Cardinals, of course, but continues to talk about baseball. He was a former baseball player, he said. He not trying to start anything. He's just talking after a conversation with the reporter for the Cardinals official website. But we'll see. I mean, you know, Russell Wilson has been known to go to spring training with I think

the Rangers is who he was with. There aren't many others though that do this type of thing anymore, um, you know, and maybe at some point Murray down the line, if he's invited plays well, does all that having some issues with football could switch back. That's the conversation at least starting because he's thinking about he was a top ten pick of the A's by the way, so um you know, it's not like they don't have anything invested in him as well. Uh. And then that's it. That's

our look around the NFL. It's the dog days of the off season right here. There are only three, well four practices. Tomorrow is the final organized team activities practice and then mandatory minicamp is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Really the same thing, uh, teamwork is allowed, there's no contact, seven on seventy is allowed. Everything is allowed except no contact for the most part. But it's the same exact practice pretty much as organized team activities, or at least can

be designed the same way. We'll see if it's the same Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. And by the way, Texans, I don't think are the only team not doing a mandatory mini camp. There are a couple others. Let's not pile on the Texans too much, you know what. Let's we just did. That's okay. The pile on is there. But the Jags are are planning to have theirs. That's what we do know. And it should be a final few days of good work for the Jaguars. And so far,

so good. All the instances we've been out there one time per week during the organized team activity period, you've seen some up, some down, some interceptions and then Trevor Lawrence would have a good day and then but as we said before, it's difficult two you know, see day to day improvement or change, is their trends or anything, because, as urban Meyer said, they're not doing winners and losers

right now. They're just trying to evaluate and get some guys um into the offense and defensive schemes, see who can run who can't without contact. It's tough to see much of anything else, and that will be the case next week as well. The real stuff begins in late July and August when training camp will begin. So our thanks to Pete Friscope, CBS Sports senior writer joining us on the program a little bit earlier. Our thanks also to Josh Allen, Jaguars defensive end and linebacker, who we

called up earlier this week. You heard it today the archive available on Jaguars dot Com. Our thanks to Joe Fortunato and Blake Stewart for the production today. Blake Stewart on the video side, Joe fort Tonado on the audio side, and for everyone involved on j P Shadrick. This is Jaguars Happy Hour on the Jaguars Digital Network. Stool Batool the stool to
