It is Thursday, April twenty nine. This is Jaguars Happy Hour. Jaguars Happy Hours presented by Duval Motor Company. And now a guy who always appreciates a good draft or I P A or stout or box of wine j peace, especially on a night like tonight, Welcome in. It's Jaguars Happy Hour presented by the Duval Motor Company. My name's J. P. Shadrick. And boy do we have a program for you today, a draft right preview. We'll hear from Jaguar's owners shot Com.

We just sat down with the Jaguars owner. Will have a comment about tonight, the excitement here and yes, the breaking reports about Tim Tebow working out as a tight end. You'll hear from shot Con at about four fifteen today. Also Irvan Meyer about an hour and a half ago before his first NFL draft. We'll hear from the head coach Fred Taylor, pride to the Jaguars running back. And then Brian Sexton schedule to join us in Cleveland at five. Jeff Lagerman is in studio with us today. That is

a lot of show aheadlogs. Good afternoon, Good afternoon. It's I hear there's a big event going on a night. There's something happening here exactly. It's exciting. And you look, the football world is gonna have its eyes upon Jacksonville at the big, very beginning of the draft tonight, and there's gonna be Jaguar fans everywhere that are gonna be just extremely excited and pumped up. And for good reason.

You know, the there is a generational player that's going to be available to be picked first and excited to see it happened. I think we all are. This has been a long time coming. And you gotta stay tuned to hear what Mr Kan said because he's fired up

about tonight too. He's he's seen so many quarterbacks and some not good football teams here over the years, as we all have to have this opportunity to be in the spotlight, to be in a first overall pick situation with the players that are available, that's the perfect storm. And you might not see that again ever as an owner of a football team. Well, no, possibly not, and you hope to never see it again as an owner of a football team, because that means you got into

the position to be drafting first overall again. But you know, I think it's It's exciting for a lot of different reasons because the draft has always represented great hope for football teams in the NFL, because they've been bad and now here's an opportunity to get better as a football team. And when you have a generational talent at quarterback, that can be transformational for an organization. And it doesn't just stop there though the Jaguars have two first, two seconds,

two fours, two fives. I mean, there is plenty of opportunity for this football team to get better besides just picking first overall and getting a quarterback. Let's hear from head coach urban Meyer. We had a chance to catch up with him here at t I A bank Field about an hour and a half ago, and that was about five and a half hours until the clock starts with the Jacksonville Jaguars at number one overall. It's his

first time in. How's he feeling? Here's Urban Meyer? That coach Urban Meyer with us just down the hall from the draft room here at t I A bank Field for only a few hours away. You're nervous yet, yeah, I get nervous about everything. It's a game day type feeling around here. Our staff is worked very, very hard. This is a transformotional moment for nine oh four and for the Jacks. I saw a shot earlier to then.

I can feel it with him too. Yeah, I bet that's coming out of him because he's been here for a while trying to get this thing right. This is, as you said, it's a big moment for this organization. So are you confident in the preparation? Is there any stone left unturned? Yeah? We came in even this morning. You know, I just I probably shouldn't watch it durn mocked or ass but the the whole idea that you get your eyes and your heart sent on a player

and you might be gone. That's what I gotta because I got my heart set on a handful years and uh, that's the biggest thing I got to prepare myself for. And if that player is gone, where do we go? But I feel like we've done our work. You got a lot going on, and there's some guys in the building offseason program, so I'm sure you've been here for a little bit today. What is your draft day routine?

You've never done this before. Do you have a checklist that you go through before that clock starts at eight o'clock today? No, it's actually new for me. You know, I've met with our staff a couple of times and we actually are you know, there's a couple of guys even trade opportunities and might surface them when watch having our staff watch some guys. Um, I got my workout and thank God, and then uh, and then get ready

for a very long evening trade. Uh. Any surprises up ther sleeves to night you'd like to give us down? Oh yeah, I'm not gonna tell you Anything'm not because I'm not I don't know, but I'm listening and learning the collaboration, which I think is in my thirty years or especially the last fifteen in college, I've really studied how these teams because they all come into the house Statard for it would see these great players and when you have great collaboration between the coach and the personnel

office or general manager. And I'm telling you know that I can't imagine the last three months being any better than Trent, myself and our staff. Final thought when we talked to you at eleven thirty tonight, at the end of this thing, what would be a successful night for the Jaguars. That's going to be successful? Um? You know we have a good idea of the number one pick, the five is and the one. We've got about four names. That depends how the draft goes, but we have them

vertically ranked that after there will take them. So it will be we'll win today. He's gonna make sure we win tomorrow to night. It's two more days after today to coach. Thanks a lot. Good like you that surban Meyer, And it seems pretty relaxed, aboot, I'd say going into his first NFL draft, now that was a little while ago. We'll see what happens at about seven forty five when

they're closing in. I think I loved his response to you when you asked him what would he consider success at eleven thirty tonight, and he says, Oh, we're gonna be successful. I mean it's just the confidence. I mean that's obviously impressive. And when you have an opportunity to draft a players such as Trevor Lawrence, I mean, you're you're, you're you're gonna have great success on day one without question.

Because the last time that something an opportunity has come about like this, you go back to heck it was what back twenty twelve, I think it was when Andrew luck was the consensus first overall picks and the draft, and there was no mystery to the fact that he was going to be that selection. And you go back even further back into the NFL history and you look

back and you think, maybe John Elway. I mean, it's just it's not very often that you have a player who is a clear cut head and shoulders above everybody else number one, and and those guys worked out pretty well, I'd say, yeah, right, yeah, But but there's when you go back to other number one overall quarterbacks, because there's been in many and some of them have not been successful.

And I'm not trying to say that Trevor Lawrence won't have success, but the ones that were one overall, there was a lot of questions about would they be number one overall. Heck, there was even a question about Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf who was gonna be number one. Incredible now to think about, but that was a true story.

It is incredible, absolutely because then and seriously, there was the media experts, you know, the personnel experts, they were split about fifty fifty and boy, uh of the people were dead wrong in that instance. Well, either way, tonight, Logs will be a night to remember for a long time. I think folks that are here tonight, certainly, if it goes the right way, over the next five ten years at that position, we'll remember where they were on a

night like this. And it feels like a lot of ways with the new coaching staff in with the ability to pick the number one overall in the in the quarterback that's available, it's almost stay before this and after this scenario for this organization as a whole. Tonight's really the night for that well it is and and instantly, Trevor Lawrence will be the most iconic Jaguars figure in history.

In Jaguars history, Uh, I mean Mark Burnell, Tony Boselli, Fred Taylor, they all fall by the wayside instantly from day one. When Trevor Lawrence is drafted number one overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars tonight, he will be the most popular Jaguars player in history. And it won't even be close.

And so I mean it's it's gonna be certainly changing in a lot of ways for the franchise, for the city, for Trevor Lawrence himself, and uh, and it's gonna be exciting to watch the journey that is going to be starting tonight for this franchise and for Trevor Lawrence. Because make a mistake about it, you're when you say that this moment we'll define this franchise going forward, and we'll be the defining moment for this franchise in its history.

Thank But no mistake about it. It is going to define this franchise and it's gonna define it in a in a big way. Whether that turns out to be fantastic and Trevor Lawrence leaves this team to Super Bowls and is at the Helm for fifteen years, or whether it doesn't work out, it's gonna be a defining moment.

Here's a just off the cuff here. We We had a conversation on a podcast the other day on the Official Jaguars Podcast Network on Apple, iTunes, Spotify or wherever you download your podcast by the way, about what Trevor Lawrence's floor would be in the NFL. We know he could be the great Hall of Fame quarterback and do all these things when championships and all that, but at

his lowest, what is a comparison in the league. And we kind of came up with the If he's Matt Ryan, he's got an m v P, he's been to a Super Bowl, he's had a long career. If that's the floor for Trevor Lawrence, that's a pretty darn good floor to half. Sure it is, Sure it is, but but you want to be you want to better. Yes, absolutely,

that's what I mean. But I'm totally with you that uh, And that would probably be I think a fair comparison of where his floor maybe if you talk to some of the experts that have been that have been studying that position forever. And the big question is is where is the ceiling? And obviously the ceiling is gonna be determined doing large part to what happens around Trevor Lawrence. How good are all the other draft picks from How good do these draft picks that have happened in the

last couple of years developed for this franchise. How good is urban Meyer and his staff at developing these young prospects that they are going to be adding to this football team this year and in the future years. How good is Trent Balky and his staff that continuing to supplement a roster with talent that is constantly changing year after year, because it's a cycle that where you lose players, you have to continue to add players and to add more players than you lose to continue to get better.

You know. So there is a lot of factors that are going to go into determine in that ceiling. But you feel like you have a chance because you have a generational talent coming in the door. Because you know, Urban talked about he was dead on the money when he talked about football being a quarterback sport instead of just the NFL's a quarterback league. And I've always said that you should draft a quarterback every year. And I still believe that even if you draft Trevor Lawrence, you

continue to try to find another quarterback. I'm not trying to say that you find one to replace Trevor Lawrence, but that's how how important if you stumble upon one. The you gotta have a backup to that's one thing. But you can get rid of a guy and and get a lot of return for you know. And and here's the thing I mean, and when I say you never stopped looking for the quarterback, even if you always

trying to find even a good backup. Look what Rob Johnson was able to Garner for this Franchi whole idea. You know, he's a fourth round pick out of Southern cow He's buddies with Tony Boselli on that football team, and and all of a sudden he comes in here and he has a couple of good starts. He looks at the part, and all of a sudden, the Buffalo Bills give up the farm, which is a first round pick, the ninth overall pick, which turns into Fred Taylor Hall

of Fame caliber player. You know. So that just goes to show you that you can't stop looking for that position because it's a premium position. Buddies with Tony Boselli would have been the red flag, right, I mean, I don't know everywhere they were a little different there, they were kind of ran in different circles a little bit. You know. That's good. So plenty ahead on Jaguars Happy.

I will return with Jaguars owner shot Con moments ago, he sat down with us here in studio, and his excitement level for tonight and for the future of the organization certainly a sky high end. He has an exclusive comment on the recent breaking reports as Afternoon of Tim Tebow. Yes,

They don't even have to ask for it. Thank you, logs appreciate that. Let's

hear from Jaguars owner shot Con. It's an important day certainly for the Jaguars organization, arguably the most important in franchise history. And Mr Khan sat down with us just a few moments ago. Jaguars owners Shot Con joining us on Draft night twenty twenty one, A long, long, long time coming, but a franchise changing moment tonight, a rare

opportunity Mr Khan with a number one overall pick. The excitement level in this city has been has been increasing as the weeks have gone on, and now here we are on a night that you might not see again as the owner of the football team. Absolutely, I think you know, I'm super pumped. I mean, it's that's one of those moments. As you know, Jack's fan, it's wonderful to be alive. And uh, I've been looking forward did

the day and obviously looking forward at the season. So it's got to be exciting too because you get the share of the moment with the fans. You know, we're getting back to a little bit of normalcy and we're gonna have fans here to help celebrate with this football team. Absolutely, I think we've missed the fans and I think, uh that is absolutely you know, the big part of football,

besides winning is the environment, the fans, the energy. Jacksonville has been all over the media the last week or so, national media and everything. They're in spotlight and the city and the organization. It deserves that. It's been a long time coming. Absolutely, I think, uh, we've got to enjoy the moment, uh and take a deep breath and really enjoy it and uh um so I think nothing should

get in the way of that. One of the one of the great moments is being on the clock with the NFL Draft, and I always find an interest and how teams kind of have a different pace or a tempo as far as when they turn the pick in. Will you enjoy the full time of being on the clock knowing we can turn this in and nobody else has to be in front of us to determine where we're at. Yeah, I think you go through obviously a

miserable season to get the first pick. But then certainly, I mean there is a huge advantage obviously this year with all the agony and so you know, there's been a lot of heavy lifting over the last few months with the Trent his staff, coach or on his staff, and but you know, we feel we're in a great place now shotgun with US Jaguars owner on Draft night one. It's the number one pick in a year where there are some big time quarterback prospects. We all know the

history around here at the quarterback position. Certainly under the time you've on the football team, you know it well. So many changes over the years here, and it's hard to find sustainability when there's especially that position so much change. It feels like there's an opportunity now to stop that change. You agree, absolutely, I think, Uh, you know, I did the math. We've had eight starting quarterbacks in nine years. So, um, it's obviously it's difficult to win when you don't have

stability at that key position. How important has it been twofold one, your involvement from last year being more involved and then also this year with the hiring of Urban and making sure that you're trying to get an environment that is conducive to success for a young quarterback to come in. Yeah, and I think you know, I've I've shared that a little over you know, a year ago. Uh, you know, it's your owner. I think, always on a knife sedge. I mean, you don't want to abdicate, you

don't want to micromanage. Where is that balance? But you know a little over a year ago, I, um, you know, got much more engaged because you know, three years ago I thought we'd turn things around with the championship game and even the season after that, you know, we got off to three and one start and then boom, you know, disaster struck so um and um, so really getting the team ready, the young team that wants to play for Jacksonville. Um, that was really uh, you know our goal last year.

And then how the season turned out, it was like, um, you know, the gods of football had smiled in the Jaguars. Um. Not only we had the first pick, but all the other attributes that go with it, the draft picks, the salary cap and really a good young team. So I felt we had the first pick in the draft, but we also had the first pick in the coaches search.

And um, the amount of people at the end of the season that it reached out to me, uh, you know, with interest in the job really was certainly I haven't experienced that, you know. UM, So I felt this was absolutely vital to get that right. We've had high picks before, I think both of you know that, and we have little or nothing to show for it, frankly. Um, so the picks are only as good as really the personnel

folks and the coaching staff that's leading it. So getting the coaching um, the search and selecting really the leader, to me, that was really vital before you even got into it. And um, and you know, I took really full advantage by talking to a whole plethora of candidates. And when it was all said and done, I mean, a winner like Urban, you know, is what we need. And you know, I'm just super pumped and enthusiastic about it.

Shotgoun with a Jaguars owner and to that. To that end, it feels like most times when he speaks publicly, he'll tell you what he doesn't know in the NFL. It's not like he's coming in and saying, oh, I know football, I know the league. He's been pretty forthright and what he needs to learn and needs help with in the NFL that Trent Pak he's helping him out a lot, certainly in this pre draft process. I think for me, that's been one of the most impressive things. For a

guy who's had so much success. You would think he would come in and, you know, know everything, But he's been pretty forthright, are you. I don't know if that's a surprise or not. You might know him a little more intimately than most so far, but I think that's

been an impressive part for Urban so far. Yeah. I'm not surprised, okay, because the reason you know, I've known Urban you know obviously before the higher as socially and then uh, you know last year when we knew where we're going to have the pick, you know, I wanted to find out we need you know the quarterback class. And um, I had spoken to him a couple of times what he thought and uh, um so um, I

mean he's had the success because a he's smart. Um, he always has an open mind, he's listens, is transparent. And then you know, football is not a democracy. I mean, somebody has to decide. And when all that stuff's on the table, you know, and the obvious conclusion isn't there, then you know we're counting on him to decide. And there's a lot of decisions to be made over the next couple of days and a lot of talk about the first overall pick. But you've got two ones, You've

got two twos, two fours, two fives. I mean, what a great opportunity to improve your football team. Absolutely yeah, and um and I think, uh, but that is going to be a reflection of Urban his staff obviously, and Trent and his staff, you know, so we're counting on them,

uh to really get that right. And one of the things to follow up on that, I've heard you made a comment before about how the mental aspect sometimes wasn't maybe made as important, and going forward, the mental aspect of the players that are going to be coming into the program, maybe more emphasis put on that aspect of it. I thought that was very impressive, because sometimes it's not

just about talent and physical ability. Yeah, I think, uh, it's you know, talent, the mental makeup, the desire to play here. I think, uh, that is really the desire to work hard. Uh. Those are all attributes which make a successful team. I mean you can be uh, you know, an elite athlete and but not be the perfect teammate shot con with us. There was some breaking news today social media reports. Adam Schefter one of those that said Tim Tebow recently reached out to the Jaguars and requested

to try out at the tight end position. That's big news, obviously, a big name here in Jacksonville, big name in the NFL that's been out of the league for a little while. What can you tell us about that workout, JP, I mean I can tell you that we've worked him out. It's a football decision at that point, right, I mean, yeah, if he's good enough to play, then he can probably come play. I think that's gonna be up to Trent and Urban to you know, make the decision whenever the

time he's right for them. Fair enough, Well, we appreciate your time and enjoy the night, because it is gonna be truly an exciting night for Jaguar fans everywhere. It's gonna be an epic meet. And how happy you at all? I am ready to go, So it's gonna be fabulous. Jaguar's owners shot con joining us just moments ago, and yeah, he's fired up, to say the least about everything that goes into tonight. Pumped. I mean he's he's pumped up

and then rightly so. And uh, you know the one thing I think there is reason four of the excitement because this football team has a lot of opportunity to get better, and not just tonight. I mean you got two first round picks tonight, but the number of picks that you have amassed in the first four rounds, which I always call the critical rounds, because you should be drafting if not immediate starters, then eventual starters through the first four rounds. Rounds five and six and beyond become

essentially a stroke of luck. But the first four rounds you should be able to make your football team better than This team has a lot of opportunities, so many ten picks going into the draft will see how many players they get out of those ten picks. After Saturday is done, we have plenty ahead On Jaguars Happy Hour. Fred Taylor, we caught up with him earlier this week. He's a former first round pick. You know him well,

of course, and everybody around the Jaguars does. What is his take on what's going on tonight and over the weekend for the Jaguars. Trevor Lawrence and a lot of insight from Freddy t coming up, and we'll go to Cleveland as well. It's Jaguars Happy Our presented by the Duval Motor Company, j P. Shadrick, Jeff Logman Our thanks to Jaguar's owner shot Con for joining us earlier today, Head coach Urban Meyer.

You can catch the archives of those coming up a little bit later on the team's site. And a busy show continues. You know, we haven't really touched on the Tebow stuff much. It's the big blow up on social media today that all these reports that Tebow is either asked for or worked out for the Jaguars as a tight end. So that has blown Twitter already. On a crazy night on Draft night anyway, on NFL Twitter, you throw that name in the mix and here we go.

It'll last till about eight o'clock and when the draft starts, the people will forget about that because, Uh, for me, it's a it's a non it's a non story as it relates to this football team, because but I mean it is a story because it's Tim Tebow. I mean

Tim Tebow is a former first round pick quarterback. Well, I mean it's not because Tim Tebow is more than that here, I mean, I mean Tim Tim Tebow has been an iconic figure for a lot of different reasons, for not only his career at Florida, but also his career is a quarterback in the National Football League, for his minor league baseball career, for his faith and in service to this community. And so for many reasons, he

has a very popular figure. And uh, and is it a story that he is trying out for tight end? I just remember when when he was coming out, they were talking about his best position would be tight end, right, and he was resistant to doin that. Come full circle, you know, now he's working out of the tight end again. You know. Anyway, this is this is a night about

Trevor Lawrence. This is not a night about Tim Tebow. Yeah, all that stuff can come at some point if he signs and and and all of a sudden he's on the ninety man and here we go and he's working out at O T A S then that can change

that narrative. But tonight is the first round of the NFL Draft and there are two first round picks for this football team, and we caught up with another first round pick for this football team from back You know him, you love him, Fred Taylor, prior to the Jaguars running back our Coast on Jaguars postgame Radio. We got his thoughts about the number one overall pick and what is ahead for this organization and a good visit earlier this week. You know, to have the number one pick, you have

a talent like Trevor Lawrence. You know, just the potential that uh that that surrounds him. You know, it's huge and not just on the field, off the field, and I think the Jacksonville community will embrace that. I think he'll embrace the Jacksonville community. Um, he recently was married, so you know, he's a guy who's here. You know, everything on the outside is taking care of. I'm pretty sure his sole focus is gonna go on football and

making the Jaguars better. I'm again I'm looking forward to see him get out there and perform. The Jaguars have have haven't found their niche at that position. You know, and I can easily say in my opinion that Mark Brunel by far has been the best quarterback in the franchise's history. And uh, Mark was solid. You know, I love Mark, but we've over the years tried to find a guy to replace Mark, a guy that will be there as long as Mark and uh do the things

that Mark did. Hopefully Trevor is the guy. Hopefully we won't have to worry about, you know, another first round quarterback for at least the next fifteen years, right, Um, that would be a blessing for the Jaguar. Fred Taylor with us there is another first round pick. Though overall it's a little tougher to handicap, if you will, because there's a lot of things that can happen, and the Jags did a lot of work in free agency to give them some flexibility at that overall pick as well.

And they've got the thirty third pick the first to the second round and another in the second round, so there's a lot of equity there late first into the second where it could be a sweet spot where you're finding a few different guys. Urban said it the other day, though, Fred, he you know, he wants people, especially those first four picks to be able to come in and contribute right away. What do you want to see at in the first round. You know it's again you said it's a lot of

draft eck we there. Uh, they can do a lot of stuff. You know, they can take if they wanted two couple one of those second round picks with and move up or the second you know one early you know, the second second round picking pick and maybe like a fourth or fifth round pick and move up higher, you know, into the teams. Um, so they can really get creative. But to answer your question, just that that slide itself, I think I'm thinking, uh, offensive line O T or

DT for the most part, maybe even safety. I remember, uh, now it's been let's ce j P about twenty three years the Jaguars. I remember having two first round picks, the ninth in the twenty is and uh, they landed myself and Donovan Darius. You know, we ended up being two pretty good players making an immediate impact, you know in year one, and hopefully, uh, they can do the same with the first two picks. So I'm thinking ot DT. I I think the defensive tackle out of Alabama, Uh,

he can come in and contribute right now or more. Yeah, he can come in and play right now. I think as high motor, he can get after the passer, he can play run against the run. And uh, he can come in and play now because we just don't have you know that that position completely just solidified. I think you come in and play now. Uh. And then in the second I think you're still going you look at receiver dB something like that tighten tight end, Yes, tight end.

They're still looking for a pass catching tight end option there. Fred Taylor with us final thought here, Fred, you know, as a first round draft pick, you you know what it's like to have to sit there during the first draft to draft and wait to hear your name called. You know, were you expecting to go as high as you dead? What were your feelings, what was your draft day situation around you? What are your memories of that

day leading up to it? You know, I was projected first round, but I was smart enough not to go to New York. I was like, no, I'm not gonna be that guy. You know, because you just don't know, Like I can't imagine, especially watching the draft, what these players are doing in the green room. You know, they're sitting back there and they're hearing I'm projected to go top ten and all of a sudden, top ten is done, now fifteen is done in twenties like and you're just

sitting there. That's an awful feeling. I can think of Lamar Jackson, you know, a guy who's terrorizing the NFL. Why did he slip so far? My most vivid memory on draft day is the phone ring, you know, the phone ringing me telling everybody you know, be quiet, be quiet, you know, and uh just saying a nine oh four area ago. And I learned quickly, um that Jacksonville potentially could be my home. Uh after this phone car I picked up and uh, hey, young man, I can't I

might my tc impersonation sucks. But uh, you say you're ready to be a Jaguar. I'm like, yeah, of course, Coach. Of course. He's like, well, we're gonna take you here with the ninth pick. Congratulations. We'll see you in a couple of hours. A couple hours, what do you mean a couple of hours? So I had to fly to Jacksonville and didn't own a suit. Uh Skip Richardson, who's still Team security to this day. Uh, Skip took me to the men's warehouse right there on the Arlington Expressway,

just our off Regency. We got a blazer, a nice little black Mark shirt and uh some black pants, and I went in, I did my press conference. The rest is history. But that day is certainly a dream come true for the draft picks. Uh. And again, it doesn't really matter where you start, right, you know, it's it's mattered that you're still standing in the smoke when it smoke clear here, as as step from Diggs just recently

said on our podcast. But I salute those guys, man, and I congratulated all of them for their hard work leading up to the draft, what they've done in college. But this is the reset. It's a new beginning and they have to dig in all over again. You have to prove yourself all over again. And hopefully Trevor can come in and do the same, and hopefully the other guys, you know, I just don't want to put all the

weight on trevor shoulder. Well, hopefully the other guys can contribute throughout the draft, the guys that are there already on the team, and they can make some magic happen and we can get back to winning a row that's Fred Taylor pride to the Jaguars running back and what a story first round memories there Fred when waiting on the phone call and then I'm gonna go find a

suit when you're ride. Well. Skip Richardson, who has been a part of this organization since the very beginning, has taken care of a lot of things in this Jaguars history, and that is just one of the small things that he's taken care of, making sure Freddie had a suit because Tom Coffin had a certain expectation with all the draft picks when they are around the media, no doubt about that. Always going to catch up with Fred has been a little too long. We haven't heard from him

on anywhere. Freddie's the best love working with him during the season with the post game and everything and uh and you know, Freddie's first year was my last year in the league, and and so I tried to raise Fred the right way with the limited time that I got to spend with him. And I just remember him

as a as a young player. He had such immense talent, I mean in talent that was just you wish you had some of the physical capabilities that Fred had and a truly special player and arguably the greatest Jaguars player in history, the best, the greatest player period. Yeah, I mean played for a long long time at a high, high level. Him and Boselli, I'm right at the top. Sure, those two guys are are simply the best in Jaguars history, and you can switch them out however you want to.

Let's come back in a moment. We'll go to Cleveland, Ohio, where weather apparently has become inclement over the last hour or so. at that time Drew Brees got there. New Orleans had that pocket with Jim Moore, Big Jim Moore and the don't patrol defense. But they never kicking over the hump in the playoffs. You've gotten deeper in the playoffs. You now you've had before, right, You've been in an FC title games with different head coaches. You've done that. This city is ready for that new guy to come along and do it. If you're asking me to put my feet to the fire, I'm all in on Trevor Lawrence.

Let's go to Cleveland, Ohio side of the NFL draft, where Brian Sexton is standing by this evening the Jaguars, Brian have two picks. What's the scene? How's the weather all of a sudden in Cleveland. By the way, I don't want to hear about ice cream because that's no snack for Cleveland,

and lots will get this right now. It feels like so many November afternoons here in Cleveland when the Jackie are rounds. It's ut eight degrees. It is a cold, it is windy, it is rainy. It feels like a Sunday afternoon. Yeah, so welcome to the Lake Erie, the shores of Lake Erie. Right, That's why we like living in Jacksonville. Can we hear it was a little, a

little light good. I'm excited to come back tomorrow. It is cold up here, not freezing, and my choice of jacket has more to do with the rain than it does the cold and the wind. But there's not a huge crowd here this evening yet at least, and I don't know that there will beat obviously COVID is still an issue, but you can tell talking to people that they're excited to have the draft back live after a year where the commissioner worked from his basement and all

of us were in different locations. It feels closer to normal. And so when you see the fans walking to the stage over my shoulder, there there's an energy level. It feels to them like football is back, and we're four months from football being back. So the Jaguars, Brian have two first round picks in their pocket today, number one overall, number overall, and you've been here since before the beginning.

This is one of those nights where people will remember where they were first of all, and everything that happened before tonight and everything that happened after tonight. Well, Tonight's the big part of both of those comments. It feels like, if you're Biblical at all, it's like BC and a D right BT before Trevor and a T. I guess

you'd say, after Trevor arrived, everything changes tonight. We've waited twenty seven years for everything to align, for the Dragon Wars to be in a position where the top quarterback is there for them to take, and everyone that I've talked to up here in Cleveland, whether live or in zoom like I had with Charles Davis yesterday. Thinks his kids can't miss and he certainly looks the part. And all of us have watched him the last three years and waited to see what kind of professional he's going

to be. Well, he's gonna be a guy who wears teal and I have to tell you the story. Like you, I watched that game against Alabama his freshman year JP. I wasn't as deflated by it as you probably were. But the worst kept secret in the NFL that year was that the Jaguars were going to sign Nick Foles.

So I did a little math, try to lay out a timeline, and I thought, there's no way that Jaguars will have a shot at this kid he comes out, Because I was assuming that Foles would be successful, they'd win enough games to be somewhere in the middle of the pack, and would continue on this where's the franchise quarterback road that they've been on for so long. So when Foals got hurt and it didn't work out and we were all bummed out, look at where it brought

them to. Sometimes a step back is required to go forward, and that it was more than a step back. It might have been about two or three steps. They were jumping backwards, skipping backwards. In fact, Brian Sexton with us in Cleveland, Ohio. We heard from Charles Davis. You also had a chance for Brian to catch up with Kurt Warner, the great quarterback in the NFL now NFL Network analyst,

and he discussed the presumptive number one overall pick. It's a quarterback driven league and that's what it's all about. And we always say if you don't have one, you don't really have a chance to compete in this business. So, uh, that's what it all comes down to. When you're a team that's searching for that guy, that franchise guy, that's

really where it starts and ends. And we know that's you know, it's a team game ultimately comes down to all fifty three, but it always does start at that position. And so I know Jacksonville is excited. Obviously, it's a

great class of quarterbacks. I think we all know that it's gonna be Trevor at number one um and you know, he's a great prospect, He's a guy has done a lot of great things in college, carries himself well, which is obviously a huge important piece, but just had a complete career and he's got such a great skill set. I'm excited to see how that skill set translates to the next level. So that's Kurt Warner catched the full visit. Yes,

Brian and Trevor. Lawrence was in seventh grade. The people at Cartersville High and Georgia were anxiously awaiting his arrival as a freshman, where he supplanted a senior who went on to play at Alabama change his position to tight end. They waited for him at Clemson. We've waited for him in the NFL. This is a guy. One in fifteen

was painful, It was worth it. Millard forrest All was that kid's name at Cartersville who's now tight end at Alabama coming out this year also, and he knocked off Kelly Bryant at Clemson, by the way, and he had to transfer out. And it was Trevor's show from then forward. Brian, quickly,

what's your pick at twenty five tonight? You know, I think there's so much offense at the top of this draft JP and I keep hearing more offense in terms of the offensive lineman going in the top fifteen sixteen picks. That's gonna push a top defensive player that none of us were expecting might be there. I'd love it to be Christian Barmore because he's here, and then we could follow him around and get on the plane to come home tomorrow instead of being on United Airlines White. It

works for me. Uh. If not Christian Barmore logs, I'd love to get your opinion, but I have fallen in love with Zaven Collins. I thought that you did a great job of of of letting out your inner Pete Prisco there, Brian, it's good for me. It's how many times have we stood on the sidelines at that stadium right over there. You can't see it, but it's right over there next to the heaters pregame because it was

so cold. I'll give you. We have that that I think is by far the best defensive player in the draft, and that's Micah Parsons, the linebacker from Penn State. Uh. From from my experience watching the film of all these potential first round draft picks, he stands head and shoulders above the rest, and obviously they didn't play football last year. He didn't play, so that's gonna knock him down a little bit, which could be a good situation for the Jaguars.

And if you're gonna run a three four, you can get a guy that can play multiple positions, and good football players translate anywhere on any defense. Well, in the same way, if you're going to run a base three four, you need a lot more linebackers than you've ever had in Jacksonville, Brian, stay warm, you would ever to enjoy the evening up there and get in out of the cold. We're about to Brian sexy with us in Cleveland, Ohio side of NFL Draft. He sounded cold. That was because

he's here. It makes sense. It's only twelve players there. Yeah, and know what the and I think the NFL obviously is very understanding because with COVID still affecting and a lot of the young people in America haven't gotten vaccinated yet, so they're slowly working on that. It just give you a perfect example. My son who's twenty is in the process of doing that, and some of our young associates that we have and no here are in the process

doing the same thing. So next year, I think we get back to being completely normal and so I totally understand Brian's thoughts. Right there, you're you're going on Michael Parsons. Yeah, that je certainly. He He is the and for me, the best defensive player in this draft. He can do anything. He is a freak when it comes to put it this way, if you were to take um all the great attributes of the linebacker has okay, outside linebacker, inside linebacker,

roll them into one package, and and defensive end. Put it all in one package. That's Michael Parsons. Big, strong, physical, can run, can run. I'm talking just like Miles Jack, but physically much bigger. Great player, great player. I'm talking head and shoulders. The best defensive player in this trap. In my opinion, I'm gonna go with bar Moore, but I might change that by eight o'clock tonight. Who knows. There's a There's gonna be a lot of good players,

and I'll give you another one. JP uh Vera Tucker, the the offensive tackle from USC I think might be one of the besides the Oregon offensive tackle Pinney School. I think he's the second best tackle in the draft. So plenty to come. Seven o'clock tonight the Draft Show on ten ten x L Radio. You'll be a part of that. Tony was Sally Frank Frangie as well. Our thanks to Shad con urban Meyer, Brian Sexton, Fred Taylor for our entire team. I'm j P. Shadrick. It's Jaguar's Happy Hour.
