rookie quarterback Jake Luton. Let's say, before we get to YouTube, let's hear from head coach Doug Moron after the game yesterday his reaction to his rookie quarterback. Well, we'll take one, one thing at a time. I think that, you know, I was impressed with a lot of things, you know, just to plays in and out no delay games. Um, you know, I thought he made some really nice throws. I thought that's something that obviously you're gonna want to

have back. I think you know, when you're first time starting and you know you're down by a score and a two point conversion and lead your team down the field, uh too, you know potentially you know, tie the game with a two point conversion, I think you know that that's a that's another checkmark. So you know, there's a lot of check marks, and everyone's gonna ask me. I got asked on the radio show, which I do prior to this. And you know, Gardner right now is not rolling,

so there's no decision really to make right now. So I'm not I'm not you know, I'm not really looking at the future because, um, you know, I'm it's gonna take me a while to get over this one. Kind of pissed. Yeah, Well, head coach Doug Brown after the game yesterday, the losing result five. There was some controversial calls in that game that did not go the Jaguars

way as well. We'll hear from her own well, he didn't say a lot about it, and again today about some of those calls, Pie Prisco, Tony Boselli coming up in just a moment, we'll get them back on the line. But the Jags offense started with Jake Luton yesterday and on the third play, a seventy three yard touchdown passed the d J. Chark Jr. Set the tone. Unfortunately, the second player the day for the Texans. They countered back with the game tying score and it was game on

from that point the Jags. They gave up a couple of field goals to the Texans and then uh touchdown before halftime. It was a twenty thirteen h half time or twenty to sixteen halftime score after the fifty nine yard field goal from Lambeau. There in the final seconds, um, you know penalties. We there was a fifty yard penalty on a pass interference on C. J. Henderson in the game and then a delay of game call that was not cold on a seventy seven yard touchdown for the

Houston Texans. One turnover for each side. James Robinson ran the ball for ninety nine yards. Yesterday Chart had a big at least yardage game due in part to that seventy three yard or early in the game. And Luton finished today or thirty eight passing three four yards, the touchdown an interception, and he had that rushing touchdown on the final drive thirteen yards where yes, he's stiff armed a guy. Yes, he spun around another inside the five

and got into the end zone. And he was on the postgame radio show with with Fred Taylor last night Jeff Logman, Dempsey and I and Fred said where did you get that from? He said, well, guess watching you all those years. You know. Of course, we'll see what Tony and Pete have to say about that coming up. But first time out for Luton, and remember too, it

is the first action he's had in the NFL. No preseason games, there was no offseason program, no O T A s. The last time he called a play at a huddle in a in an heightened environment if you even count training camp as a heightened environment, was in training camp. Well, this is the first time under the lights against an opposing team in the NFL, and Luton did fairly well. Now on the other side, there were three passes that should have been intercepted and maybe a

fourth that was on defenders hands as well. So you know, some some good and some bad from Luton in yesterday's game. Um as we said, twelve targets to Chart to try to feed him a good bit. There was a drop by Chart, but he had that big the long one early in the game. Robinson, as we said, ninety nine yards.

Chris Connelly had seven catches for fifty two and Tyler, if it was really for the first time this year, a part of the plan in the game and made some catches five targets, four receptions and forty eight yards for the Jack for the Jacks tight end, who had been out a little bit with a neck issue over the last few weeks, but back in command or on the field at least this week with the Jake Luton

in command defensively for the Jacksonville Jaguars. As we you know mentioned they gave up that early touchdown on the opening drive and they they broke the thirty points streak five the final score, so the first time in a while the Jacks have not given up thirty points in a game. Miles Jack had eleven tackles, including a tackle for loss, and caused a forced bumble in that game. Pete Prisco, Tony Boselli, are you back with us now? No, they are not back. Here's Pete Friscoe, So yeah, I told you, fucking Jake Luton sitting in the pocket, stepping up, big arms, six six fires. The football can play from the pocket, can make play Like Pete loved Jake Luton yesterday. He was enamored by Jake Luton. Now with that said, I'll give I'll give the kid credit.

No preseason, no t a S six round draft pick, no reps at all. I mean, he made some really good like you can't argue the kid has a huge arm, huge arm. And the one thing that was most impressive to me, Pete all joking aside, is his ability to

step up in the pocket and not get rattled. Now, you could not have picked a better team to play, but the awful Houston Texans with the awful pass us with no linebackers, just atrocious of you know, defense, and they couldn't rush the pastor and so he was comfortable back there and the offensive line played very very well. Now the question will be this week when they played Green Bay and it's a track meet and they got you know, the Smith brothers coming after him and the

rushing the passer. And then the following week when you're playing the Pittsburgh Steelers, who might be the best pass rushing team in the NFL with Cam Heyward to it, t J. Watt and Bud Duprie. And don't forget tyson al Lala that we got rid of. That's not a high level um, you know, So it'll be different but for what the kid was asked to do. I thought he played well. I did too, and I was impressed

with him. Uh. Look, even on the first place, the first long past the chart, go look at the player underneath. The guy's open underneath. We know somebody in that building that would have taken the underneath throw and not taking the shot down the field. He took the shot. I give him all the credit in the world. He made some throws that should have been interceptions. Let's let's be honest about it. Should have been a couple of picks. So here's the but I'll say that should have been

four interceptions. There was one. There should have been four. Two would have been on him. The other was tip balls that so he had made. And now in one of them I would love to know from calmly because he started in common, he threw the out commedy went in. You know, was that comedy on the wrong page? Was it? You know? The rookie. I always say, if you don't know, playing the rookie. So it's the rookies' fault. By the way,

the best possible outcome from Sunday any better. You saw a quarterback who gave you some hope, maybe maybe he can be something. We'll see. It's too early for that, right They some young players showed progress. I thought there were some young players just stepped up and at two point play was no good. That's the greatest thing in the world. And let me I on talk the Giants one and now that you need to jet the win tonight again. I wasna say it might have been said

in the press box. I might have overheard someone saying in the press box, well not name names, that that was the greatest. You could not ask for a better outcome. And I'll add some things so if you're a fan of the Jaguars, not a better outcome. Um quarterback was fun. Game was fun, it was competitive. You're in it the whole time. It's back and forth, and you lost and you maintain your draft position and the Giants one. For

the record, I was not in the press box. It's so bad to say that because you hate as a player. Everything in me goes crazy about that, Like it hurts that I'm even saying it. But I heard someone say that, and I'm like, you said, you said it was probably Tony. He said it. He's doing he's doing like every other media member in the country. How does I heard said? This not that this team is not good, but as coaching been, uh better above it, beyond what the game and the talent is. We don't know that It's hard to evaluate them. I'll give you that. It's hard to value. So Bill Belichick was coaching this team, anyone's we have. Bill Walsh comes in and starts coaching

the offense. It's a bad team. It's a bad team, so why not. Yeah, I guess my whole point is saying is I don't like everyone's been killing. Todd watched. I think Todd watched game. By the way, the second half was really good. I thought, I mean, but there's there's only so many things you can do. They look like they blitz more just off the TV, and I wanted to I agree, I agree, and which which I think they needed to do. What you said young players,

what young players do you think played well? Thomas played better? I thought Thomas was pretty good. Daniel Thomas. I think he has a chance. You know, he's really been good this your PETE and special teams. I think that's why he's getting the chance, is because he's proven, like he's a he's a pro, like he he gets it. He plays his tail off. Um, I agree with that. I thought he played well. I don't think C. J. Henderson had that bad a game because I don't either. I

don't know something. You give up a throw here and there, a passing it. He whipped on a tackle that hurt late in the game. They got kept the clock moving. Yeah, but I mean, other than that, I thought he played pretty well too, and I think he's gonna be a good I think those are good young players to build around. Miles Jack he is so good. Yeah, he's playing the best. I mean, And it goes back to the old theory. Why the hell was he playing in the middle in

the first place? Because they had other guys? Is who they have last year? Yeah? How about this hit? Go back and show the hit again, show this hit you. There's a there's a playout in the flat on the on Johnson running back. Yeah, but going again it, I mean, that's he flew to it, you know what I mean? That looked like a like a Seattle Seahawks body Wagner black and it was a clean tackle. It was heads up,

great play by Miles. I think he's having a Pro Bowl year and he might not get any recognition for it. I agree, he's done. I said, yep, see yep. I didn't watch another So that's how much I cared about that game. It was an exhibition game. He's much more athletic than I thought he was. I thought he was gonna be Derrick Anderson's statue s

remember Derrick Anderson from Oregon. He was he was from Oregon State and big, tall quarterback and I thought he was gonna be a lot like that. He moves around much better than I thought he did. I got look, I came away impressed. It wasn't wow, He's justin Herbert or something like that, but it was impressive for first start. That was a good job. So let me ask you a a question, Pete yea. If Minshew was healthy, find no problem with his finger? Ready to go? Who do you

start Bluton? No question about it. Yeah, I agree, I'm with you. I had this conversation. You don't have to make it. I'm like, I'm not saying I'm not saying Minshew's ready, so it doesn't I guess it doesn't matter. But I think it's an interesting conversation to the of the point that like, wow, like this kid came in in one game, and I'm not saying he's gonna better than Minshi. It's one game. I mean, like you know, people, people will start game playing, they start figuring out stays.

You're gonna you know what they're gonna you. You're not gonna have a clean pocket all day. There's a lot of things. But he did enough, and I'm intrigued enough where I want to see more me too. Exactly is exactly by the way, maybe j P can get that mallet back out and he can break the other thumb and then you don't have to worry about it. You said, yeah, j P. I mean he did say that he purposely heard his finger. He was playing well. Yeah, what I said was that he tried to do that in college

to get an extra year. He insinuated exactly what I said. But I know even if if Minja was healthy, healthy, I would stay with Luton this week and you'll find out a lot about Luton on the road at Lambeau Packers Ken like Tony No. But it's still, it's still playing. I'm saying, there's no one there for the voiceover. Please that would be I've been in there, sitting in there in the summer. You look around, you go just is Lambeau. It's still He probably doesn't even for me, an old

guy like me, it's Lamboat for him. It's probably like I'll give you a perfect example. I never felt like any stadium I ever walked in, like I grew up a Bronco fan that like old Mile High was hollow ground. Now walking into the first time my rookie here and seems like, man, this is cool. It wasn't what it made it hard. What made it hard hard? In fact, you could hear anything. You're seventy seven thou people screaming

I prefer it to be a I prefer it to be a defensive lineman or a defensive player that can do something, um, or somebody who can make me better on the defensive. I think, like, listen, let's just say you go one in fifteen. Let's just say and you get Trevor Lawrence, You're gonna be immediately better on offense. That's just a fact. I'm sorry. I'm not trying to be a jerk, you know. So maybe you'll get a tight end with that pick or something like that, because

that's the one maybe position on offense other than that. Maybe, you know, defense, you know obviously needs some help. But I really do think you just need more good players. You can never have to make good players. Yeah, I I just glanced at some of these mock drafts that guys are doing. One of them hasn't taken a tight end, the kid from Penn State. One of them taking an offensive lineman. Um, and one of them has taken a a defensive back the corner. Good paris Port who opped

it out, by the way, he just opted out. I don't think I think they need This team needs a tight end, like you said, Tony, they need big time player on the interior of the defense. I'll say this, I wouldn't be against an offensive lineman. I said, no, MISTI and I started thinking about it. Go protect your number one overall pick. But but what position is that offensive line? tackle that. Why not. We'll get a great big tackles moved the guard and it's physical and you start beating the hell out of people. We'll be the right tackle out of the big tent. Why would you get rid of any of your offensive lignment? Yeah, outside of if you go draft the guy in the first round, then you can let him go after the draft. What about but what about the friends? the interior that defense. Let's go score fifty. It's well, then then in that scenario, you could add another receiver then offense. No, I only said I would take an offensive lineman, not because that's who I take. Take the best player. So if the best players the defensive guy, go get him. I just think you're a team that's not very talented or deep. You need talent to compete to just get a good football. Get the best guy. Don't go fun, don't go chasing positions. The best guys

are running back. What if the best guys are running back, I'm not taking running back. It's the best guy I was talking about. He won't be if I was the GM, he wouldn't be the best guy on my board.
