Celebrating twenty five years of Jaguars football. Trains leaving on the station run to get on it. It is Monday, December. This is Jaguars Happy Hour. Jaguars Happy Hours presented by Jet Home Loans and now a guy whose house has an accumulation of thirty eight years of coal j P. That's all I ever got, Cole and Switches Welcome Jaguars Happy Hour presented by Jet Home Loans j P, Shadrick Toty Baselli and Jacksonville Pete Friscoes out in South Florida.
And we've got a program today. The Jacks train derailed. Yes it did, Yes it did. That was a while ago. It derailed. It's on the track again. We're on the tracks, baby, I'm on I'm on the train. Let's go. Okay, here's not what you sounded like this morning when we say you have text what are you talking about? You were full of enthusiasm. Well, I just you know, I was in the middle of my coffee. I was, and you caught me right when I was watching the tape again,
So who wasn't the best mood? Coffee and cookies, Like you told me the other day, I'm eating Christmas time. I am so fat right now? Me too? Fat? Fat? Is JP fat? Two times? Yeah, I'm pretty large right now? Can you see his face? Fat? His face? You're better looking than you though, Yeah, I mean your mom doesn't mean every year you're going to football season. Me and Tony talking about this the other day. You go into football seasons and not this year. Not gonna get me.
I'm not gonna get that added Wait on me. I'm gonna be good. I'm gonna work out on it. But by time you get the mid October, you're like, you got me football seasons undefeated. Man, it always gets you. Here's what we're getting to on the program today. The Falcons twenty four Jaguars twelve will recap the game. What now or what next? Is the Indianapolis Colts coming to town in week seventeen. The future at the top of
the organization is top of mind around town today. We'll discuss social media questions to that tune as well, and we'll go around the a f C South even though it doesn't matter anymore, and around the National Football League and some tight divisional races wrapping up even last night. Um So, let's start off with the future at the
top of the organization. That's been the top of mind story ever since the Tom Coughlin firing of Wednesday evening and the announcement from Jaguars owner Shot Concept that Doug Marone and Dave holl will both report in the interim directly to Shot Khan the rest of the year. What does that mean for the future. There was no definitive answer there, But you know you're hearing reports, since hearing rumors that these guys could be around next year. I'm
moving forward for this football team. Pete, what do you think. I think that's pretty much an accurate statement. You know, I I do, and Tony I've talked to Tony about this. I hear the same thing that they they will becoming, They likely will become. And now you can't say definitively. God knows. If they lost fifty five and nothing on Sunday, who knows, they might change things. But let me say
something about Doug coming back. Um. Look, I personally probably would make changes across the board because I think the organization's become stale um and they probably need some new blood in there. But having said that, if you're Doug Morone and you go to the ownership and you say, hey, wait a second. I never really got the coaches team the way I wanted to coach it because I had Tom with his whistle on my practice field every day. I had Tom sending clocks five minutes fast every all
over the building. It was as if he was still the coach. So you can understand where Tom where he could make a case for himself to get another year. So I get that. I understand that what can he do when he doesn't have Tom on the practice field. I understand that. Um, but me, I'm surprised, to be honest with you, that they've come back. Um. Yeah, we don't know. I mean, it's still to be determined until
we get a final statement from Sean Kan. But the reports are out there that both David and Doug will come back. And it's fair to ask questions. I mean, JP, you've been around all day, I've been around. You know, you listen to the shows, you listen to social media, and I don't think it's the most popular decision. I think that's fair to say, and I think that's it's
fair to ask questions. Um, it's you know why, Well, I mean that's what what what Okay, Tony, if I asked you, if I asked that question, why, how would you answer it if you were shot? Con do you think? Well, I'm not shot, and I don't know all that is going into his decision making. I've not talked to him about it, uh, specifically at all, So I'm not sure what's going into his the decision making process of if
he makes that decision where they come back. Uh. And so it's a tough one, Pete, to be honest with you, it's a tough one for me to answer of of uh, why that decision is being made. I think you bring up a good point about Doug. I said it last week and I still stand by it that you have to evaluate both of these individually in separate. Dave has been here for seven years. Um, there's a body of work that you can look at and make judgments based
on the product action. Uh. And at the end of the day, the one only thing that really matters, and the only thing that should matter and the NFL in the game of football is the wind column and the lost column. That's how everyone should be judged. And as a player, that's how I was judged all the time. I mean It's one of the great things that I
love about sport and especially football. It's like you go out, you do your job, there's film, you're judged, you're evaluated, and if it's not good enough, they it's time to make a change. And ultimately you're judged by wins and losses. In this league, that's all that matters. And every decision should be made based on is this gonna help you win football games? And is it gonna help you do the ultimate thing, which is win a world championship and
hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Every decision needs to be made in light of that. What there be, The contracts that they have are through season. I don't I don't think money has any effect in it whatsoever. Sean Cohn's a very wealthy man. I don't think money has any play in this at all, do you, Tony? I mean, could it? Yeah, but yeah, I don't know. I don't think. I don't think. I don't know. I wouldn't. I got the impression from Doug.
You know, you heard the statement from Sean Conny said he had made the decision earlier in the year to get rid of Tom Coughlin. Didn't you get the idea that Maron was coaching like he thought he was gonna get it was some of the comments that were coming, not coaching, but the comments and his attitude and the
way he was talking. He kind of thought that was coming and maybe he was gonna get it too, and he might be surprised that he unless they told him, look, we're gonna get rid of Tom and you are coming back. I mean, it just seemed like because he took a lot of shots at Tom, you know, veiled shots not you know, probably rightfully so, and some sit you atians,
whereas a head coach normally wouldn't say those type of things. Um, we are all speculating and trying to read he leaves right now, and we're basing a lot of this conversation on reports and everything else of the possibility or maybe it's a long strong leaning towards both Doug and Dave coming back. And and I'm struggling a little bit because it's it's a tough situation because if you look at the body of work, and if you and that's why I think you have to look at individually, and I
think that you sit back and you make judgments. I think what you said about Doug is very accurate. He could he have been hampered and affected by the influence of Tom being here and and and really leaning in on the coaching side. I mean my perspective, you know, and the feeling I got is that Tom leaned much more on the coaches in the coaching out to the front office and kind of left Dave and personnel more to operate independently. That's the feeling you get, at least
other than he made the final decisions. Let's not forget that. Yeah, I think it was a collaborative. I think Doug Leonard Fournette was Leonard Fournette, who's had a great year, by the way, was his pick. Well, to be fair, I don't know exactly the nuances of how those decisions were finally made, but yes, Tom was in charge, so we said it all along. I mean the top of the food that's right. Um. But you can evaluate, you know,
you just look at the big picture. You evaluate it, and I think what Pete said about Doug is fair, and you kind of go back and forth and say, Okay, what was hampered? Uh? Was Doug hamper to do his job? Could he do be a uh do a better job of coaching. If he doesn't have that presence and the pressure and everything else of of Tom, looking of the feeling of Tom lucky over not the presence and the pressure,
the influence. That's the same thing, whatever influence, But that was not the same thing if you had if you had a guy like Tom Coughlin who was legitimately in the building and serving as the role he was supposed to serve in rather than being on the practice field all the time, then it would be that you would say, Okay, that's at presence. That's not a presence when you're on the practice field and you're involved in it. That's an
influence problem there. But Dave's on the practice field as well. Dave is a general manager and he's never been a head coach. He's never been a coach. Dave doesn't get in the middle of Drew. I was there. I saw Tom's in the middle of the drills almost, Pete, that's fair. I agree with you. You and I are saying the exact same thing, So I'm fine with your were the influence?
So what impact did that have? Undug And if you're shot you're saying I want to see because I think Doug Brown is a good head coach, and I want to see what he can do on his own. That's fair, but that doesn't a yeah, that's fair, but it's still that the as fair as that is, it doesn't erase everything.
I'm with you on that. You have to look at it there and then you have to evaluate Dave the same way of looking at the body of work that has been produced under his leadership as general manager since two thousand and There are a lot of blown picks. There are blown picks in there, but there are a lot of good ones too. And we went through that a couple of weeks ago. The pick the roster is bad.
Bottom line is right now, we don't have a very good roster in my opinion, and the and the the salary that falls on them, and the salary caps an issue that falls on them, and so and we've lost a lot of football games, yes, and so that's the process of you go through it and and and where we sit today is we still don't know shot will make the evaluation. The one thing I know about shot
Con is he wants to win. But every owner wants to win everything, and so but anyone who says anything else and I've heard more conspiracy theories on social media today that are absolutely ridiculous. What are some of them? I mean, do you hear the references to major league and like trying to trying to you know, uh, the game,
the teams and all this stuff that's not accurate. You don't spend the money in the in the resources that set Con has spent if you if you're not trying to win, well, they tried to win, didn't win, got close, and now it's a disaster. You're better off being the Miami Dolphins right now. Why is that? Well, ay, they have a ton of cap room. B they have a ton of draft picks, a ton of them. They are better football They're better football team right now. Okay, it's fair.
It is fair. The tanking team came to Jaguars, who knew. It's a little strong. That's a strong statement, but very strong. And I know I used to kid. Remember I used a kid. I'd say, hey, assistant head coach Doug Morone. Remember I did that for a couple of years now. That wasn't just this year either, And I always used to make that joke and it was funny and we laughed at it. But in hindsight, it wasn't so funny, was it. Well, there's nothing funny about losing the way
we have lost. I mean, having double digit losses again is not funny and it's not enjoyable for anybody, and nobody likes it. It is not fun. And we sit here right now not talking about what we'd like to talk about, which is fighting for a playoff spot and trying to win a championship. We're talking about changes and what changes will happen or won't happen. And at the end of the day, we don't know today, we don't
know right now what that decision is going to be. Yes, there's sorry, Tony, but you guys have been in town all day. Who are people clamoring to get? That's what I want to know, because you know the masses out there all follow one another. Well, the interesting thing is right now, nobody's clamoring to get anybody. It's just get rid of people. Right, I haven't seen many. Right, If you're gonna want to get rid of people, then offer
me an alternative for who you would go get. Well, I think right now, and this is what fans do, and I understand it. Fans are just they are sick and tired of of losing and not being relevant, and so right now the pain they are feeling is anything but the status quo. And I think that would be a fair way to explain what what you I mean? Would you sense that? Jpyes, anything but see. And here's the other thing, Tony. And you know this as well
as anybody. And I've been associated with that by living there and covering that team and doing these shows everything, and doing Radio Jacksonville for years. Everybody in the national media has always associated me with Jacksonville. Always, and so when I'm out in the national media, I hear the jokes. I hear how people perceived the team. I've heard it
for years. When you back to when you were playing, uh that little marketing because I used to complain guys didn't get Pro Bowl votes, Well that that's a you know disaster over there, that little market. Nobody pays attention. And it's hurting you now twenty five years or thirty years later or whatever it is. Because of the Hall of Fame voting and Fred Taylor and everybody else. Well, now it's gone from mocking the little city that shouldn't
have had the franchise to the laughing stock. People laugh at the city, they laugh at the the Jaguars. Oh, are you surprised at the Jaguars? Are the ones with with all the issues with the fines in the NFL? No, not at all. You hear it over and over and over again. I'm on the air down here there. They make cracks all the time. So that's where the organization is right now. And it's been that way for a long time. And at some point they gotta get out
from underneath that. They can become a Seattle like team. All you have to do is win. People think the Seahawks, so look how relevant they are. They were a bad team for a long time. People laughed at them too. Well, you know what, at some point you got to change the whole thing there, flip it over and change the way people look at that organization. And Pete, would you say, I didn't have the national perspective obviously when I was playing,
But I agree with you. Now I'm out on the road all the time to national games, and the perception and the jokes and everything is not good. But in the nineties there are still the jokes about the small market. But don't you think the organization from a football standpoint, the team standpoint was respected because we were winning, Yes, no doubt about that, and what happened so quickly and the how it was built and everything else. But there was always the undertone only be there for a couple
more years until they leave. They shouldn't have got the franchise in the first place. There how many times, but Tony, that's just the way they do the organization people. I'm making your point. You can't change how people feel about the city, right, But what you can change is if you win, and you go win championships, there will be no more joking. They might joke about the small market. Nobody's joking about the Green Bay's or you know other
small market the handful of small market market teams. If you win, it's no different. By the way, the Cincinnati Bengals. Everyone jokes about the Bengals because why because Cincinnati's small market. No, because they don't win. But when you don't win, and your products thinks and people stopped going to the games, and then you look at you see all those empty seats, and what goes back to at one point the Tarps. Remember the jokes about the Tarps, even though it was
a misguided joke and it had no relevance. Where's the fans. They don't realize that there's this young, crazy fan base in Jacksonville now of you know eighteen, the thirty five year olds that are just crazy about the team, and that's all perpetuated by bad football. Bad football makes it all just keep on going. And that's where Jacksonville is right there. Well, it's in the whole fans not coming to games. We just played in a large market yesterday in Atlanta and it was at best half full at best.
So when you don't win, you lose relevancy, regardless of your market. And the only way to cure anything all the issues you lit line up. You could line up all the issues we you have with the Jacksonville Jaguars or any team or anywhere else. The only way you fix it is by winning. All that matters in the NFL is any That's all that matters, nothing else. But that's why the fans are all up in arms about
the possibility of what is still they're coming back. I get it, and I understand that, and Pete, that's why the first twelve minutes of this show were the worst radio I've ever done. Because I sat there and mumbled and bumbled and didn't say anything because I get it. It's hard. I sit here in search what's the answer. Why, you know, if the decision is to bring Dave and Doug back, And one, whether it's friends or fans, asked me that question, why is that decision being made right now?
I just look at him saying I'm not sure. And by the way, twelve minutes. You stumble and bumble over everything for two hours, but usually usually I stumble and bumble at least say something. I literally thought back the first part of the show, and I'm like, you're like you had a glaze look on your faces? What you look like? You know how to answer the question? It's a tough question. It's a tough question because here's the thing. I love this franchise. I like the guys. I like
the guys. But here's the thing. It's not about liking anybody. Doesn't matter you like him or not. Guess what. I know a lot of my friends that I liked when they are players here, and as soon as they couldn't help us win, guess what happened. I probably didn't like him anymore. No, I still like then got him cut, But no, no, that's not my point. My point is you understood as a player as soon as that individual player could not help you win a championship, any longer
they were gonna be there. It's not personal, right, it's a business, it's a it's a team, it's a sport. You know what is and what isn't right? So is that the question is is it right to bring them back? We were about twenty minutes over. We gotta come back. We got to pay the bills. Let's do a commercial and then we can keep this conversation whatever Tony would like to do. We're back in a moment time out. At some point we're gonna talk about football game yesterday
as well. Jacks fell to the Atlanta Falcons. If we must, we don't have to. I guess why. I don't know. We're lost. It's the new week, same game. Yes, slow, start behind big, he'll come back, uh the end. There's our game coverage from yesterday, back with more. This is Jaguars Happy Hour, presented by Jet Home Loans on the

It's embarrassing. Um, you know, I just look back and look at all the things that I, you know, should have done a better job of and evaluate it and at the end of the day, like I always say, you know, that type of focus and mentality that I have Geane gives me the ability to know that I've tried my best and I could keep my head up and try to be a good example of a father and a husband and uh a leader, you know, of an NFL team even though it's been um, it's been
very uh you know, disappointed coach Jack Marone yesterday in Atlanta after the Jaguars lost to the Falcons J P. Shadrick with Tony Boselli and Pete Priscos Jaguars Happy Hour presented by Jet Home Loans. But you're along with us today, Mary, Christmas, Happy holidays? All that the Jags lost again yesterday? Was the final score? What was the Seinfeld Festivals for the rest of us? Yes? Where is this the area of the grievances? Good? Is that segment? Is that segment florid tonight?
I forgot to put that in. I got a bone to pick with you too. I'm sure a lot of people do a lot of people both speak with me? Yes, so um, where we will repeat? We were talking about bringing bringiant Dog in a day back. So, you know, and I don't know much more than to say about it. I think we've kind of worth of you know. It's a decision that will be made, and uh, who knows when we'll I mean, we'll find out sometime between now
and after the season. The reports are out there that they're uh the heavy leaning towards them coming back, both of them not popular today, uh on social media or on the shows or anything. And uh, we'll wait and see what happens. If they're back, they gotta win next year, right, Well, I mean, come on, come on, if they're coming back, they better go to the playoffs or something. It's playoffs or bust JP. That's easy. If they're coming back, it's
playoff I think that's here's the thing. But it is just a playoff caliber team, right before we get to that, just stop before you go there, Pete, it's a the question, the fair question is is what is the evaluation based
on to bring them back individually? And Pete laid out his reason that he thinks he could understand whether he would do it or not, why Doug Brone deserves another year based on the influence that's the word right Pete, influence of Tom Coughlin, and that he wasn't allowed to do the job he wanted to do because of that. Whether that's sure or not, you can debate and everything else.
I think it's a fair point. And then you have to ask the same question, based on what set of metrics that you would evaluate, Dave Caldwell, do you bring him back? And that's what we'll find out when the decision is made. You know, what were the what were the metrics? What was the decision for that? Until then, it's really really just speculating. There's only been when Mr Cohn decides his talk, I mean, whenever he decides to make that public. And JP, you asked me, is this
a playoff contending team? And I said, hell no, and it won't be next year. It can't be. It can't be. No, it can't be. Why you don't have cap room to go even fill in some of the spots you need to fill in. Now, you can create some, and they will create some, but you also got a tag in got way. If you're gonna keep him, that's gonna take a big hit out of that. So you can't you know, you can get rid of Norwell and save some money.
You get rid of boy and save some money you give rid of But I think I think has a pretty good big dead number. Now, I think they save money if I looked at it, they save money on his, They save money on boy A. They could get they could get under. But then if you're gonna tag in goc Way, that think is gonna be twenty million dollars or whatever it is, so that take if you got million under, that leaves you five millions. Well, they're not gonna fix the roster going first of all, I don't
think you fix the roster free agency anyways. But you gotta supplement the roster well. And that goes to the question. I mean, if you look at in the entire evaluation of where you sit as an organization, and as you evaluate this roster, what pete you just said, you're cutting players that you're counting on the starters right now, on a roster that's already not very good. Tony. Back in the day, they cut you and the uh seth pain and because they couldn't they couldn't afford to keep you. Well,
they don't cut us. They put us on the expansion draft. But that's basically they sent us packing, They sent us down the road. Okay, that that's a nice way saying you would have got, you would have got probably would have been cut Tony. No, actually I don't think that. I think that was I was like the one player because I renegotiated my contracts so many times, helping them for cap space, that my number was bigger if they cut. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
At some point, you know, especially they begged me like, hey, we'll pay you to retire as a settlement. Just scram But as it turns out, though, cut release man thing, whatever you gotta get rid of. You're always going to get rid of guys that have too much money for cap reasons. But the concern you have is a very not very good roster and you're gonna have to do
that is how do you fill those holes? And and that's that's I think that's the question everyone's asking as you sit back and evaluate the decisions, how we're gonna move forward. And part of the ultimate metrics is wins the losses, but then also the direction are you going in the right direction as a football team? Well, he as it goes back to remember, like the coversation we had a couple of weeks ago. Where are the assets?
Where are the building block assets? Right now? On that football team made himself into something that you have to have around. I'll give him credit for that. Well, he's had a very good year. The hard part as you look at you know, when you start talking about assets and guys you want to build around, you have an offense is averaging three points a game over the last seven games in the first half. The quarterbacks are bad. Okay, but that tells What that tells you is you don't
have any playmakers. If you're not scoring points, you have no playmakers on offense. Also, not a quarterback. That's well, that's one of the playmakers. Well that's the major playmakers. That's what I'm saying. I agree playmakers yesterday and he beat the Cowboys. Uh, but he has a good offensive line. Yeah, told me call those guys playmakers too. But they they have a very good offensive line. Well, vit I played for Lane Johnson, so it wasn't as good as an offense.
But you Jason Peters, Kelsey, Brandon Brooks the best, one of the best cards. I mean, they're right line is better. I'm not gonna say that, but like Ur goes out, he's got a banged up ring. That leaves him with Goddard a bunch of guys. But but godd is a good player. He's the first round he chalks a good player.
I'm not saying he's not Pete. I'm just saying, when you're not scoring, here's the thing, and this goes to the entire valuation if you're not if you can't score points in this league, when the game is set up for offense, it's one or two things or a third which is a combination. It's like the old multiple choice A B, A B or C. All the above is either you don't have players, you have poor coaching, or it's all the above. Right, Also make it d you
don't have a quarterback, that that one supersedes all of them. Okay, so you think it's all quarterback. You think you know, I don't think it's all quarterback. But they don't have a quarterback. Let's come back in time. No, I would not sit here and say it's all quarterback. Absolutely not. No, let's come back a little more of this conversation. It's a good one. Let's talk about let's talk about quarterback.
That's a big part of where how you move forward and we'll figure it out or we won't when we come back. It's a complicated issue. We have a lot of stuff going on right now. We're coming up on the final show of this year at Daily's Place. Actually will be the first day of next year, January one. Tony Boselli is thumbing through Twitter. Pete Prisco is down in South Florida. Glad you're along with us. Twelve of the final and it wasn't that close. I didn't feel that close. In Atlanta yesterday the Falcons put up five eighteen yards of offense. We'll get to the Jaguars defensive performance. Then, but don't
break baby, that's what they call that. I guess we actually had the game on one of the big TVs because we Brady was doing the game, so he wanted to critique everything. He said. Did you see him, Tony? How do you do it? In? He's good? He was really good. But that team he has Joe Davis. I don't know if you know me, and he does Dodger baseball games, but he does a lot of games with him over the years. He's really good, Joe David. It was good. He was in the Southern League at the
same time I was. He was in Montgomery. Someone's he's a young guy. He's a young yeah, a good dude for Buddy Tight No, no, but he's talked to him a few years. But I thought, you guys are tight, good guys really going to bat for him? Pete, You're right, Um, we were very good. He's very good. He's a talented guy. Um. Mensh you we just heard from him there and you mentioned earlier the first half numbers the last seven games, the first half numbers compared to the opponents are just awful.
To look at a hundred eight to twenty two. The total score opponents lead. There the average total yards to thirty five to one thirteen, and that seven game stretch five first downs. That's amazing total first down or average first downs in a game in the first half of games compared to the opponents who fourteen first downs. The Jags have third down conversions in the first half for the other side, and the average offensive plays twenty six
to thirty seven for the opponent. And I'll go through the defenses that they've played in there that a lot of those defenses are bad too. Let's let's take a look. Let's go with the Houston Texans. That was the first game. What's that where they're staying. Let's go through the rankings and look at see where they're racked. All right, so Houston is the first team, it goes Houston, Indie, Tennessee correct, three straight divisional teams, and Tampa Chargers. Okay, we know
Tampa's got a bad defense. Chargers are top five defense. Let's see, so the Houston Texans overall defense, the Indianapolis Colts are the sixteenth overall defense. The Tennessee Titan are the where are they? Where are they? Yeah? The one overall things. Okay, Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Okay, middle of the road, fire, the Cannons, Los Angeles Chargers our sixth defense defense. See the Oakland Raiders are in the league, the Atlanta Falcons are so of those defenses that they play, only one
was the top ten defense and that's Los Angeles Chargers. Yeah, so that just goes back to what you're saying, Tony, then already playmate. The offense is bad. It's a bad offense right now, right now as is. It might be the worst offense in the National Football League. You know, it's when you look at it's you can explain it and when some at some level, I mean, you made the decision to stay with Bake Bortles a couple of years ago, and then you drafted leonardour Net, who's a
power back. That year you went to the championship game, you had a blocking tight end Mercedes Lewis on the roster, and you had a fullback, and you played a certain time football and you had a historical year on defense, you played a certain way on offense. Well, since then, you never replaced Mercedes Lewis. He's still playing in Green Bay, but you never replaced him with the blocking tight end you've not done nothing to dress that you have no
fullback on your roster. They've they've signed some guys, but nothing of that caliber. Let's say, okay, they have done nothing to replace the tight end position where you have a physical, blocking tight end on this roster let alone. They still don't have a pass catching tight end on this roster. They drafted Oliver, they do not have a blocking tight end, and we do not have I'm with you.
I'm just saying, yes, they have no fullback on the roster, correct, And so the style of football they want to play, and they got a quarterback in Nick Foles who doesn't like to operate underneath the center, and so you you you don't have it. And so you have your best offensive player, who's Leonard Fournett, that is best to play a certain style, and you haven't built the roster to play that style of football. He's become a pass catcher,
so I mean, he's leading the team. But but but I'm gonna I'm gonna give you an example of something. I mean, do you disagree with that? What I just said? No, You're was fought on. So that's a coaching decision. That's a bad coaching decision. What wait before? Why is that coaching us? The scheme doesn't match the runner's team to the runner? Well, they but they have to. They don't have the personnel to do that. If you don't have a tight end of the roster, you can't play. How
are you gonna you can't? Well, they don't have one. You can find a slugo somewhere to become. But that's not the that's not the coach's responsibility. I agree with you, it's both. I'm not blaming just one side or the other side or anyone. I'm not blaming. I'm just saying the reality is you have to Okay, no playmakers or I'm gonna go and I always point to the quarterback position. I'm gonna go to the Miami Dolphins. They score a boatload of points, and they had a bunch of them yesterday.
Now the Bengals aren't good on defense, but they had a bunch of them yesterday. Davante Parker and d J. Chark or a wash. They've made Mike Gasecki into a player in Alaska. Their offensive line, as bad as Jacksonville's offensive line is, Miami's is worse. They have no running backs, of no Patrick glared and gasking. They got rid of Kenyan Drake who just carrying up. But okay, so and
then so where where is the points coming from? They're coming from the quarterback position because he's playing well and he's taking advantage of, you know, the opportunities down the field, because he's much better as a veteran quarterback than what Jacksonville has on the field now or when they had Nick Foles. So it's right, that's Patrick better than Nick Foles. That was I was gonna ask you, I haven't seen wow,
yeh would you have said that this offseason? I would have said six and one half dozen the other so you wouldn't so you wouldn't have paid Nick Foles what they paid them. Oh, I said that all along? What do we have seen a different Nick? We we asked this, and you don't really know. But if he don't got hurt and had a chance to get his rhythm and do everything early in the season, do we see a different kind of Nick Foles? Yeah? I don't know, I mean, but I think you are what you are. I mean,
we talked about it in the off season. That was the one we at least we felt like on the show, it was a risk. He never played sixteen games. Most of you played at eleven, right. Yeah, by the way, I and JP you asked me this, I think, or Joe somebody asked me before the show. Would they go back to Nick Foles next week? I might, I might, just to see what you got? Yeah, Yet they did. Go go let him play again at home last game. Go see what you got. If he stinks, then you
know what. Then you really know what you have. But if he plays well, then you go into the off season thinking okay, because I think they they found out what they have in Minshew, and what Minshew is is a heck of a backup in the National Football League. I'd love to have him on my team. I think he's a great kid. I think he can come off and win two, three or four games if he has to for a team. But he isn't the starter for
sixteen games. I think that's that's readily apparent. If to everybody who watches his team, who gives you the best chance to win this week? If that decision of everybody coming back is that fears the thing, it gives you a chance to win this week, They're not go play Folds. That's what I would do well. But it doesn't matter if you're if you're David Duggan, what happens this week influences Okay, then I'll say it probably Nick Foles gives you a better chance to win. Yeah, I don't know anymore.
I'm at I'm at a loss. Do you think Ardiament shoose requested uh as he regrets? I mean, I think if you go back and really look at the tape, a lot of his stuff was always off schedule, and he's a competitor, and these things happen, and I just don't think that you can count on that in the long term to play football that way and win. So I don't want I don't want to say he was regressing. I just think that's kind of what how he plays.
And sometimes it's gonna work, and sometimes it's not gonna work. And it's hard to be consistent that way because you don't operate within the rhythm of the offense. And isn't that why isn't that why the second half has been better for him than the first half, because he's just playing frantic, trying to play catch up. Correct. Yeah, possibly, by the way, just for comparison. Say, Julio Jones has ninety two receptions this year, Leonard Fordette has seventy six receptions.
Far off? How about the yards per reception? Uh, they're probably a little bit different, would say point three? Isn't he tying the Jaguars record for recha Jimmy had no? Jimmy had a hundred one? Who got the boast by a back though? Yeah? By far. Julio's average is fourteen point three per catch. Leonard for Nett's averages six point nine per A little bit different type of reception, almost
the first down difference. Let's come back in a moment. Well, um, well, because I want to say one more thing about quarterback. When we come back, let's do it whatever you'd like? Yes, umy. By the way, if you want to do game day different this Sunday, visit I do I want to win? We all? That would be a different. Yes. Visit the experiences upgrades to have in the fan Zone on the

Welcome Back Jaguars Happy Hour presented by Jet Home Loans J P. Shadwick. Tony was suddenly Pete Priscoe. It's Tony's favorite holiday coming up, Christmas. He loves it. Pete. You know one of my he kind of made a crack when you said that was, you know, one of my favorite days of the year, December.
Why is that Christmas is over and I can take back all this stuff that my wife spent and get refunds. What what is the matter with you? I'm joking. You're not you know you're not You're not joking. I'm kind of joking. Tony. Do you actually go out and shop? That's what I want to like. You don't buyre your wife a nice Christmas present. I didn't say that. I do my shopping one or two ways online via the on the great Internet. Or I have little elves that
go shot for me. Unbelievable. What Santa has elves? Why can't I have elves? I mean you're like your your kids. Yeah, my elves. You're big enough to be Santa. I'll say that. Well, I'm on my way. I mean the time plays on, Me and Tony are both gonna play Santa next time? I can start right there with you in the movie. But now I joke about Christmas. I love Christmas. I love my kids and seeing them because the only thing is, Yeah, everybody loves Christmas. You just can't wait to get it
over with so you can quit eat. Yeah, the eating and the credit card bill the only thing that like, I enjoy the eating. I don't like the effects of meeting and he and I like Christmas. I don't like the effects on my credit card bill from Christmas, you said last week. Even like getting gifts, Yeah, because they
go on my credit card. I mean, like JP, you don't have kids and you're not married, Like one thing you understand, like as a kid growing up, Christmas great because you got these presents and there was no like effect.
And then like you get married and you have kids, and like it's so excited about Christmas and all the exciting things, and then you get these gifts, like your kids get your gifts, your wife gets you a gift, and then you like a couple of days go by and you get the credit card bill and you realize you just bought yourself gifts. Unbelievable, Wow, just what I wanted kids, I mean, so it takes a little bit
of the excitement out of it for me. C m TV, Thanks kids, I didn't know, well that level to Tony, we go all right, we'll just get ourselves. We'll get each other something really nice, each one thing, and then we're gonna go buy this, this and this for the house. Like here's a perfect I'll give you a great story. And I hope my wife's up listening, so be so mad. But it's it's funny. So like when I got married, so like I didn't know that you were supposed to do this, so I didn't. But my wife got me
a marriage gift. I'm like, I got you a ring and everything else about she got me and it was a surprise. And so she bought me a jets because we're moving to Florida and we're gonna live on the water. She bought me a jet ski as my wedding gift. Nice. It was so nice. Then I got the bill for it, and I realized I bought myself a jet ski. By the way, if there was a marriage gift thing, I failed on that one too, to get one. I'm like, wait a second. And she was expected, she didn't expect anything.
She was not. She was expecting her jet ski. But she got me a jet ski, and I'm like, I was like, oh, this is awesome. Then it really dawned at me quickly. I'm like, I just bought myself a jet ski. But you know what, though, you wouldn't have went out and bought yourself a jet ski. So she's surprised. You bought you one that you probably didn't use but five times, and you sold back. I literally used it like the first year we had it. We go out and then it just sat there on the dock, and
so what did you do with it? You sold it back. I don't even remember what happened to it. It could be still sitting on that dock. I think I might have sold it with the house. I don't know the jet ski somewhere, But that's what I think about. Every time you look at all this stuff, people by holidays and Christmas and everything have the crap is garbage. They don't even want you know what I mean, Oh this is great. You look at it, go throw it over there. But you gotta take like you. So let's go back
to the quarterback talking about wet a. I'm back. We're up against it. We're talking about Christmas. To you, turn Scrooge, Scrooge, I want to talk about the quarterback real quick. When we come back, we can do that. We'll touch on all the big news. Of course we haven't. We haven't touched on the defense yet and their issues yesterday. Okay, they had a couple of interceptions. You know, we didn't do a good job up front there. Um, So your quarterbacks on the drest early on in the game, Um, that's not never a good thing. You always want to get a guy settled, um, you know, And I thought that's what went on, you know, early point in this game. Um, and we're just never able to really you know, get anything done and really recover from that. You know, they were doing a good job. We should have probably, you know, I probably should have. You know, bans go a little
bit more vertical earlier. They were squatting on this early on, we weren't getting a lot of separation. Shadrick Tony was Sally Pete Prisco after the twelve lost to the Atlanta Falcons in Week sixteen. The Jags have now dropped six of the last seven. They're five and
ten for the season. They are secured in last place in the a f C South, and there's plenty to discuss, of course. No one looks really good right now, j J. Lock it, lock it, No, we're not locked. No, you locked the final seven games of the year. There's no tape. There is literally there and we have sound effects to that will forever live on. Right they are, and it's Tony because he's he he locked all zevn. Yeah, that that lived. Well, that that lasts. Let's talk about the quarterback. No, no, no,
let's talk about your loan why it was dumb? Okay, that's all I needed to hear. Now we can move on to the quarterback. Okay, next quarterback. Final the quarterback. Yes, Pete, you don't think the quarterback of the futures on the roster, is what you're saying. I do not so the quarterback for the long term cute next year. And I will say this, I'm sure in the camp of not knowing, like, oh no, you're in the camp and you don't think
so either, Stop it. That's right, lean yes, um, so I'll just say it no. So, but with yeah, I'm of the opinion you draft a quarterback every year till you know you have the guy. All Right, I'm gonna pay give you a scenario. Really, do you agree with that? Yes? Okay, So would you take to uh? I would not personally because based on and now, I haven't done any work on him nothing, but my perception of him is he's a smaller quarterback, which is fine. He's very mobile, big arm,
but he is injury prone. He's been hurt every year, and so I would be worried about drafting a mobile, smaller quarterback who has a history of injuries. It may not be the way. Yeah, he's not small, he's just short. It's not like Murray Kyler. Murray is small and frail. Mccam Murray had no history of injury either. No, he didn't play that much either. Fair but to it has I mean both ankles and a hip now to surgically repaired ankles, a serious hip injury that there's a lot
of work to be done. That's true. But I'm saying if he checks out on your medical I would still I'd still be worried about his durability doesn't even remind you the way he plays a little bit of Russell Wilson. Yeah, that's fair, and I'm not saying I wouldn't take him. I would have to do a ton of work in my my first gut, and we don't know where the hip is. Yeah, my first gut is no, because of the injury history. I think Russell runs a little Yes,
I think Russell's more athletic. Yes, yeah, But if you took the hip and said, okay, it's fine and he's going to move forward, is there gonna be no other issues with the hip. It's just a flute thing. It happened. Would you you wouldn't consider him in that spot in the first round. I would consider every quarterback in the first round. My My whole point is, I think as an organization, you have to do a ton of work on the quarterbacks coming out this year and also understand
what's coming up next year. Because if here, here's the decision at the we have the six overall right now, I'm leaving you need big people, you need defensive linemen. I agree, But if there's a quarterback there you like, you gotta take him. Only if the guy at six is a guy you think can be a franchise quarterback that can win a championship for you. Well, okay, now, if Tah can't be the same guy right away, but
the medicals say in six months he'll be fine. You also could do that and wait to then him play then the next year and then playing the following What depends on what other quarterbacks are in this class. It also depends for what class though, Okay, that's my point, and also then determines what does it look like for next year? Okay, So here you go in Miami and I live down here in South Florida. Was all tanking for Tuah. Now it's tanking for Trevor and Jacksonville. No,
I don't think that works. It doesn't work. It doesn't work. It's Miami gonna end up with Is Miami gonna end up with Ta probably if they want him because of the injury. If he doesn't get hurt, they don't get him. Right, guys, there's no way. But he's not even the best quarterback. He's going one. Have you done anything on the Herbert kid or He looks the part. He's got a great arm, and he is wildly inaccurate. You cannot be inaccurate in the NFL. So that I brought the quarterback is I
think going? I mean the conversation I would think I would recommend in this offseason, you have to be evaluating quarterback because until you find that guy, you gotta draft him. And if it's not and even if you don't take him with the first two first rounders or even a second rounder, you better third, fourth, fifth round. You better draft a guy that you think he has a chance.
Like the later rounds. It's obviously a crapshoot and you don't know, but you better draft a guy you think has a chance to possibly be the guy until you Yeah. The funny thing is is you know a lot of teams will look around and say, I'll get it. My teams are pretty good. I get a better quarterback and bring him in here, like the Jaguars thought they could do with Nick Foles. But now this Jaguar team isn't close to being that. There's not They're not a quarterback
veteran quarterback away from being a playoff team. Mhm. Hindsight will tell you right there you go, um, do you have it? We have not touched on the defense today has been mainly offense on this show and executives and head coaches and all that. The defense. Yesterday, they were coming off of performance in the second half in Oakland where they shut out the Oakland Raiders and gave the
team a chance to rally back into that football game. Yesterday, they gave up five eighteen yards of offense at the seven points in the second half though, that's right, that's right, Uns, that's right well, and another seven was a short field that they got off thet fumbled, so it was I've said they had to takeaways to the way the defense has to play is ben but don't break, and that's what they do. I mean, I really the way the
defense would play would be don't bend at all. I'm saying how they have to play based on their personnel right now, Pete, That's what I'm saying, because they're not gonna hold They're not gonna hold up and be a dominating defense with the personnel they have on the field. By the way, um, Donald Payne has become like a fantasy for all the people who play fantasy football in the with defensive players. He's become goal. Look at all the tackles again, sixteen tackles. Yeah, so what if they're
all down the field. But I mean for fantasy, it doesn't matter, right If no, it doesn't, that's how stupid that is. Real life though they're they're they're a little bit more down the field. Typically, Um, he has tackles. Jared Wilson leads the team with sixty for the year. Miles Jack had sixty six this year. So by the end of the year, Donald Payne in the five or six games is gonna have more tackles. In five games
he has another. If he has seven, he'll he'll tie Misles Jack and he has in Jared Wilson will play. So who knows. But yeah, didn't they pick up the kid from Yeah, they did the kid that was at on the TV show and they can grab him up the linebacker? What TV show? I don't know what you're talking about, the Last Chance you or something. Yeah. Yeah, then they grabbed one of those kids off a practice squad the other day. Yeah, I don't think he's playing
that he was an active I believe. Yeah, the Dakota Allen is in his name. Well, Dakota Allen was out there. He was active yesterday. Okay, what's there. Yeah, he's uh. He was on He was one of the featured characters way back in the day at Last Chance You, with
the documentary they did on Netflix. He's the guy with the real long hair, right, He's the guy he went to think about the same guy he went to TCU, was a big time player, got in trouble at TCU, got kicked out, went to the junior call and straightened out everything, went back to TCU and played. I think it's the same time. Yeah, Dakota Allen went to Texas
Tech his last school, Texas tex Texas. He went to Texas Tech, played there, got kicked out for something, and then went to the Last Chance You and came back and uh and played a Texas Tech again. I think I was the kid was out of football for a long for a while. Pretty sure he's was active yesterday. I thought I heard. I thought I saw him out. I saw my special teams. There you go, he was active. My apologies, I was inaccurate. I just I took a I took a big swing in a minute. Yeah, you
were inactive. No one looked like and I don't. I didn't watch the tape Tony, but on the TV it looked like Tavin Bryant was active yesterday. At times, he had a couple of he had a couple of good plays against the run where he got a field and created some tackles for losses that he didn't get him, but he created him. And then there's other times where it's not very good. So just wildly inconsistent. The Falcons ran for a hundred and thirty five yards yesterday. As
a team, well they went for five eighteen. I mean they had a lot of things who played well on defense. When you watch the tape, Tony anybody, Trey Herndon, he's he's actually played pretty well. He's played better than uh A J. The last couple Yes, yes, he yes, what's up with a J? Had a good run for much of the season. He's playing much better in the last two or three weeks. He hasn't played nearly as well. No, and now Trey is I mean he's not a fast
he's not fast, but he is a smart tough. By watching the tape, I think he studies a lot because he's in the right spot. He gets caught for, you know, grabbing every once in a while. Um, But I think Trey Herndon has had a good year since we're replacing Jalen. Ramsey is three picks. He's around the ball. Um, he's a tough kid. I'm not afraid the tackle. I think he is. I think he's You look at Trey Herney, you say, you know what I guess is, don't worry
about the radio show. It's okay, don't worries. Probably you know one of those calls, those robot calls. You know. So based on sir, your your Windows computer is having all kinds of problems. I need to fix it for you. And I'll be like, okay, tell me what I need to do. And then they start going on his little spiel and I go, you idiot, I work on a Mac, So okay, that's great. Radio. Back to the Corners got him based on the Saturday. My guess is AJ is
gonna be a cap casually. And so if you can find a and maybe this is a guy you pick in the first round. I don't know what the corners look like in the draft this year, but you will find a solid, a good number one corner. I think Tray is a guy you can win football games at that second corner position. Hey, look at the back seven yesterday at times when let's just say, and they were in their bass defense Leon Jacobs, Donald Payne callitro Per, Wilson, Harrison and boy a who That's why I said you're
gonna play pimba, don't break. It's not a dominating group. And what was it? That's what they did. How many are undrafted? Is six? Is it six? Yeah? It's incredible it is. That's where they are. Well. The good news is wind Guard wasn't on the field much yesterday. Who went wingered? His name? Windberg doesn't play here. I'm not sure what team Winburg plays for. I said wingered. That's not what you said the first time, Pete. I did say wingers. I did say wind guarding. You didn't say
it right. What's the backup left tackle's name? Pete Stiff? Big stiff? Just stay trying, Oh hear you try obey? You know now, just do it now? Just it's like booy, you got it. That's not either, keep going trying it, just bessing around me. You don't know what is it? What's his name? It's no? What is it? Do it again? No? The guy has been in the league for years. The first topic, what did you do when he covered it with the draft. When I used his name, run, I
went and looked at the pronunciation. Guy. Give it to him. Boy, you can barely stay it still. What was the first one you said? What was the first one you said? He said, smooth, that's me. But keep on going. You want to try anyone else beat Team Spence. You got that right, Jimmy Smith, I got those one. Fred Taylor, Yep, good, you got that. Let's come back. Social questions right around here we go. This is gonna be this is gonna be brutal, I think. But Selly is gonna get lit
up today. Oh I like that. Probably what's new? They think you're the guy who's keeping everybody. Yeah, because I have that kind of power. The radio guy has that kind of power. My friend, you're on the wall, my friend, Dad, We're back in a moment. Social media questions much more ahead. It's Jaguars Happy Hour on the Jaguars Digital Network. Damn, we want to see you know we didn take offences of opportunities when we haven't and uh they did, you know what I mean? You know, Levin probably kind of to day to gotten the ball
very well. Uh, you have good pocket presidents, and even when we were closing in on him, you know, he got couple of the ball and when he knew he had time, he took his time, and uh fell I went to the plays. Um, you know, disappointed with the fight in the run game, you know, lating the ball game, you know, one of those games we're just you know,
we just couldn't get it done. Claires Campbell, Jaguars defensive lineman after the game in the locker room in Atlanta yesterday, Welcome back, Jaguars, Happy ur J P. Shaddick, Tonyselly, Pete Prisco. It's time for everybody's favorite segment, social media question time. Well, you said everybody, who's everybody me? Okay, let's make sure you guys hated question one at Jay Coon Tune to why can't this offense get anything going until halfway through
the fourth quarter? What changes? Um? I think they pay they play with more urgency and a frenetic, frenetic frenetic pace, frenetic frenetic Yes, that's what I said the first time I missed it up that the buzzer was late, and Fairness was like, if you're gonna get the buzzer. You gotta get it on time, and I corrected it before the buzzer came, so there should be no buzzer. Um, there we go, thank you. They play with more urgency, more frenetic pace, they you know, and I think that
fits the kind of the style. And it's hard, though to do that. And and when you say there's more production, they scored a total of nine points in the second half. He's not wrong though, No, no, he's right, but the bar is not extremely high when you get three in the first half. And so it's time, right. One of the things in defense is played different. I mean a lot of things go into it. So and we said
this in the broadcast. It doesn't feel like and I gotta be honest, it's like I've counted the plays or gone back into a complete study on this, but it doesn't feel like a lot of production is happening in the offense in rhythm like on time, like he hits his fifth step and the ball is gone. Um, or he hits his fifth step, goes through the progression one to three, ball gone. It feels like hit fifth step, can't see it, take off, start running around or hit
fifth step. Protection breaks down, take off, running, try to make something happen, and that's just a hard way to play consistent guys open Tony on the tape yesterday. Sometimes not always, Yeah, And I think Doug said it really well. He said, listen, they were they're pressing. They're basically playing really aggressive. And if a team's gonna played that aggressive with the single lized safety, you have to take deep shots.
And there were deep shots. There was one on one outside chances they could have taken, like the one they completed to Connley. When he throws a Colmley is not open. He just one on one and he separates. Well, that happened a handful of times in the first half and he just didn't throw it. So now is that play calling and they're telling him not to Is that him not seeing it, is him not having time or is
it all the above? Typically that's all the above, UM, But I think the biggest difference is just the urgency in the in the crazy nous off schedule play type of UM feel that it has in the second half, and the way defenses play a little bit looser and change things up because they have big leads. The other thing is is those aren't exactly veteran corners they were
working against yesterday. So you know, Oliver and and Sheffield's a rookie, he's gonna be a good player, but those are he's a second year player in the first year player, and they had Oliver struggled much of the season. You gotta win outside. But again, I I'm going back to
what I said earlier. I think Minshew plays better in a frenetic, up tempo kind of freelance and backyards, you know, kind of game, rather than the structure of taking the snap, put my foot in the ground, going through my progressions, getting the ball out. But it's hard to win. You can't win that consistent. No, you can't. You can't. You cannot, absolutely not. All right, next question at Live in Marvel. I don't know how you if that's how you say it or not. If you could choose what two players
would you draft in the first round. I'm gonna go with Derek Brown of Auburn. I love him, great player, and if two is coming out of take to it. We can pick any player we want. You know you're not gonna get Joe Brow. No, he just said anything. Any any two players Joe Burrow and Derek Brown. Joe Burrows going first, so you're not getting him. So you're gonna package the picks to get up to one. That's what you're saying. I'm gonna take Joe Burrow and Derek Brown.
They're both gonna slide to any player. What a draft that would be? Actually, I probably I wouldn't. I probably take Chase to take Andrew Thomas and Derek Brown. Andrew Thomas, he's the guard from the tackles from Georgia. Yeah, they have a good guard there too. Or if I didn't go big big, I take Andrew Thomas and Jeoffrey of Kuda, the corner from Ohio State. You were talking about the elite corner Tony. He spoke a great kid, great kid. Big men win football games, big human, big big. I
told you that the first place I go Andrew. Big people, big people beat up little people. Big people. You gotta have him, gotta have Yeah. I love that Derek Brown from all good player, But I haven't. In fairness, I want you to watch Andrew Thomas. He's been a really good left to hear your evaluation, I haven't seen Georgia play this year. Um like a whole game. I just saw highlights. I watched Auburn. I like that he was good in that game. He can run too, And I
watched a lot of which Brown reminds me of. Not a lot there. Who's that Chris Jones? Yeah, it's fair good. That's a good comparison. So I'm looking forward to digging in and watching a bunch of college tape here seems coming upon. Unfortunately won't be playoff tape. Next question, that son of Duval shot CON's record since buying the Jags is now thirty seven and ninety. If he does retain Maron and called well next season, why should the fans
expect anything different? That's the question of the week. I'll be honest with you. If they don't retain maronan calledwell and there's new coach coming in, I wouldn't expect much different either. Right away. Your roster is what your roster is, and their hands strung by the cat. It's it's not a good situation, so you better be you know. That's why I think it's weird that they're not going to make a change, because at least if you make a change,
then you start the process all over again. This If you don't make a change is kind of letting it continue. Yeah, this is a tough one. It really is. Let's move on at Matt curly Riiser has the next question, the team is closer to a rebuild than adding a few pieces in one year to be contenders. It's the current regime stays. Would it essentially be a three year extension than reevaluation after giving them another year? Doesn't tell con much he doesn't already know. Why keep them versus moving on?
We've touched part Yes, exactly. So these are really good, fair questions and pick them in their good job, Jpan, you picked some dumb ones, and yeah, it's those are good questions. And I agree with you. Well, I mean, and I don't like I'm sitting here looking at it right now and saying, they know what's happening next year. The team's gonna be bad. That question Basically he's saying the team is gonna be bad whether they keep Ron or get rid of them, the team's gonna be bad.
Why do you just say why do you just add just Moron? What about Dave? Well? Dave too? Both? Because I think the coach influences the immediate part of the team much the biggest, the biggest. Here, here's the one thing you have to consider. The roster is not very good. And part of rebuilding the roster is having the philosophy of what you want to do and what you want to look like on the field, and that's influenced by
the coach. But the building of the rosters is the is the responsibility of the GM in conjunction with the staff. He's happen. So your point of saying, if if you move forward, you're basically saying one or two things, we have the guys in place and called Will and Brown, that we can build the future to win a championship.
Or you're saying we're just gonna wait a year before we make the decision, and then you're behind a year and you're also saying this, if you do that, Tom, it was all you, buddy, And I don't believe that. I don't believe that either. He was. He was a big part of it, but I don't believe it. And one of the things I think the mistake we make often is we try to simplify this and just blame one person, or if we just do this, it's no different than teams. Any team who says we're one player
away from getting the super Bowl. No you're not. Or we're one play away from getting the super Bowl. No you're not. As soon as you don't get to the super Bowl, you are a sixteen games away and rebuilding your team and getting the right pieces to go win enough games to get into the tournament, and then you're
a playoff run away from getting the super Bowl. You start over from ground zero each year of getting a chance to win a championship, and you have to make sure you build the process and build the team that allows you to do that. Do you have a social media questions? Are in? Thanks for the got one that I saw on there? You didn't see the one about PASSELLI know what was that about? Oh my hit us again? Real quick question. I think we're up against the break
we got the bonus questions? How much you Leo? Actually like this one? Tony? I don't think you're gonna be I think you know what you're talking about. You know what what I'm talking about? JP. Yeah, how much money would it take to get to agree on becoming head coach? That's unbelievable. You didn't ask that question. There's someone in the just left the studio and said, if that happens, he's quitting. I'm not gonna say who it was, but
I have an idea who that was. So answer the question, but sell but that See, that's not the job of Selly would gun for though I think Tony secretly wants to be John Elway. You want me to buy Listen, my dream was to be a quarterback growing up. It didn't work out, or own some car dealerships. So let's go. Let's go to break, we'll come back and talk. He's dancing around all that. He's blushing a little bit. No I'm not. I'm not. First of all, I'm not blushing.
That's a lie. You made that up. That'd be like me. Not the question about when they said the questions about me being the general manager, you like, I said, I'd hire you to work for you. Don't worry. Let's go back. Well, I look around the FC South, even those decided. It is decided, it's over. Like a Mobile dot Us. Welcome Back, Jaguars Happy Hour, j P Chatick, Tony Vaselli, Pete Briscoe. That's Tom Petty. I Like Tom Petty. Love Tom Petty breast in peace. Ye um, well, welcome back to Jaguars Happy j P. Tony Pete. The Jags fellow the Falcons yesterday. That starts our discussion of the a f C South results from week six scene the Texans had five takeaways from the
Buccaneers in a tree. When the Texans secure the a f C South Division title the Texans, Yeah, no, I don't think so either, especially without will fall or will flour. They are differently played. He got hurt. I did the game, but he played, he started, got hurt. He's not playing this week for sure. He gets hurt like every Tuesday. Growing Um. They're wildly inconsistent. They're up and down. I don't think their quarterback wasn't very good the other day.
I mean they barel. No, they couldn't against Tampa, but Tampa is a great run defense, really good. Those two are good. Is a stud uh they I mean they barely beat the Buccaneers and the Buccaneers turned it over five times, four interceptions, one of them up pick six by Winston another one. They got the ball a point blank range and they barely won. The Buccaneers had the
ball to win it. Jamis could have thrown on them all day to except for those it guys open all day and he doesn't even have Evans and uh, he had everyone opened and they were playing with their third, fifth, and sixth receiver because their first, second, and fourth receiver were all hurt. Crazy. I mean, I don't see the Texas doing anything in the playoffs. It looks like the Bills will go play in the Texans, probably in the first round, and like they could beat the Bills because
the Bills struggled to score points. And you know, if if Deshaun Watsons running around making plays, you know, will Fuller if he's back after taking a week off. I mean, they're different because he stretches the field, which opens up with that run game. So yeah, I mean I could see them beating the Bills just because the Bills can't score for any very many points. But after that, I don't see a team in the But it wasn't surprised to see the Bills beat them. No, not at all,
not at all. Larry Tuntel is going to the Pro Bowl. He hadn't played to that this year. He has the most false starts in the NFL at twelve, and I think he's been penalized eighteen times that and he hasn't played to that. He shouldn't be going to the Pro Bowl. Now, did you watch him? Did you watch him on tape and watch him the other day? What do you think? He's fine? He's solid, he's solid, good player. I mean, he's a good player. But to mistakes? Do you go
to their defense on their defensive front? Where who's raiders? DJ Raider is good? But who else is good? His name is DJ Reader? But yes, I mean you know what I mean. By the way, he's a Clemson, he's another Clemson kid. He's a good player. Uh uh Whitney Merciless. You know he can get it going a little bit, I said a little bit, okay, Za Zach coming in is a good player. Uh Bernard Rick McKenny was hurt with a concussion. Their back half is not very good.
Um yeah, I mean they struggled. They struggled the rest of the past or that's there's no doubt about that. How about them? How about the Tennessee Titans. They fail yesterday, but they're in the sixth spot right now. If they win, they're in. Yes, if they beat the Texans. They rested Derrick Henry. He'll be back this week. They knew because the game against the Saints didn't mean anything after the Texans one um and so now it comes down to this one game. If they win, they're gonna go to
the playoffs. Bill O'Brien came out today and said he's not resting anyone. They're playing to win the game. So that's advantage Steelers because because you still get the three seats, right, But it's advantaged Steelers because the Steelers. The Ravens came out and said they're resting everybody. Yeah, but somebody asked me this today. If r G three plays for the Ravens, isn't he still better than Duck Hodges? Yes? Does it
really matter? Here's how about the Jaguars are actually in play in some weird scenario where where the Raiders get in because if the Titans lose to the Texans and the Pittsburgh Steelers lose to the rate At Ravens, and the Jaguars beat the Folds and the Raiders beat Denver, the the open Raiders in the playoffs, and that's why we got flexed in the four o'clock games. All those games, all those games are on Sunday as much as you'll have eaten from Tuesday night to Sunday. I don't think
you should have that dinner anyways. Good point. I can't disagree. I don't need to eat ever again probably the By the way, the Jaguars Colts game is presented by Colligan better Water, pure and simple. Should we do the power ranking? Well, I mean it's already done right, well all the way done. Are we secured? Like there's no chance of us like like this can't this game can't count for like three wins and so we're not last place in the division
that there's nothing as it is right now. You'd rather be the last place, lose another one, get to the five and eleven, get a better draft pick? Is how many? I'm not gonna I'm gonna say something. I'm not what I say. No, split it up. What was it about one in five in division? What were and we were five and eleven last year too? Yeah? Yes? Were we last in the division last year? Correct? First? The year before that? I remember, I don't know if you remember
well that when all the quarterbacks were hurt. Yes, snakes, thanks for raining our parade. So you have at the ANFC South, look around the division, the Occults coming here this coming Sunday for weeks seventeen. We're back in the moment. We'll go through all the games, a lot of games, a lot of fun stuff. Let's talk about coming up Week seventeen, playoffs, great Monday night matchup. I can't wait to hear your breakdown. Last years flexed out of it. Um, yeah, we played Sunday football. I played here? You did? You played U Sunday night football? There was a Monday night game in eleven they had Monday Night did Yeah? We played up They didn't have Sunday Night bees they did.
It was on ESPN yet, dummy, that's right, that's right. Hey. By the way, did um did you guys know Jack Nicholas was at the game yesterday? I think he's been in every game since we signed his grandson. Yeah, I didn't know that. Yes, yes, pay attention. He's the best end they have, Oh Jack or his Grandson. Kidding. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. Jack's probably the best blocking dight end they have. Okay, all right, let's get to the rest of the league. Let's get to the games before we get in trouble.
Patriots over the Bills four or sevent team. The Patriots just find a way, man, I'll tell you what. It's right on offense too, and they're gonna They're gonna be in the NFC Championship game. No one's going to No one's going to the playoffs in the divisional round and beating the Patriots and Gillette Stadium not happening. What if it's what if it's the Chiefs. No, No, I don't think they will. The chief could have beat him the other day, Tony. They were taking shots into the end
zone at the end of the game. I'm just telling you, hey, I'm with you. I think the Chiefs are not beating the Patriots twice. You don't. Will the Ravens beat him twice? That's a coin foot for me. I would lean with you on that one. I would take the Patriots if they played him again. You know, he's gonna come up with something to slow down that office. He's the best. He is the best schematic coach in the history of
the NFL. He's the best coach in the history. And well, I mean, yeah, but when I yes, I agree with that. But when it comes to scheming and taking away the game, he's the best. He's the best ever. And if you go back to that first Ravens game, they got ambushed early, but he settled in and his team did a good job slowing him down after that. I'm telling you what, They'll figure it out, and you've got the best quarterback in the history of the game. Yep, I'm with you.
Uh some and asked me today on the Patriots, I'm like, no, where are the Patriots, Dad, I'm picking them. Nope, I'm picking up what i'd probably when I repicked the playoffs. I'll pick him to go again whet until they get knocked out. I'm on the bandway. You know what this is all about. The forty Niners over the Rams and on the final Jalen Ramsey gets burned on the final drum.
No not if you go look at that, I thought, Okay, here's the I'll tell you exactly what it has because I talked to people they were in two man right under. He has the trail round. He had terrible technique. He stood there and he's not supposed to be He's not supposed to be trailing by six yards, so he's supposed to be hold on. The safety was on the wrong spot. But if Jalen is trailing in the guy's hip like he's supposed to, he at least makes it a more
difficult throw. He stood there, he was not in my yea, wasn't hustling. He tried to recover late. He was six yards behind the receiver. Well yeah, because the guy ran by him when he was flat foot. He was so to say to say that Jaalen didn't get burned. He got burnt. He didn't do his job. The safety got burnt as well. If you had the rate. The problem when that play between the two of them, the problem
goes to the safety and goes to Jaalen. And this is why I disagree, because even if the safety is in the right spot, garoppolo, who could throw a line drive because it's no different than the cover two. When there's that little bit of a hole, you give that much space. There were a ton of defensive backs on Twitter. Gerald Alexander's played with the Jaguars some other defensi backs. They all said that Jalen was playing the trail technique. It was a bad trail technique. But to sa, I
agree with you. People were saying the same thing. But just you know, wash your hands. And what Jalen did after the game blaming the safety in the in the that was that was terrible. That sound was him the bus running over there. He literally just ran over the guy like he did everything perfect. While we're at it, Dote Fowler now has eleven sacks on this season. Whatever, I don't care about that. But he also had a
big tweet this afternoon too. But Jalen should what jail and should have says, Hey, listen, I gotta do a better job in trail and we gotta do better job over the top. It's on both of us, that's what you said. Yeah, I agree. Dante Fowler might be getting a call from the league office on that one one of the tweet. Yes you can, you can't read it.
Let's move on. But before we move on, how about how does the locker room handle that pete with Jalen running over just the and not only as a rookie ran over I come on, you gotta have a little more compassion for the rookie, right, does it wet all? Or some of those veterans rabbing by the by the shirt collar and say what do you do one? And guess what they're stuck with him. Nothing's better than to see him playing trail technique like that. I have remember
all he wanted to do here. It could plain because he wanted to play bump and run and press all the time. And he doesn't do any of that much of that either. How about him just standing there to pete? I know it's terrible literally standing the Ravens over the Brown Ravens are good. Shocker uh Dolphins over the Bengals. Overtime game? Did you see the end of this one?
The Bengals I scored, got the on side kick, scored again, went for two or two point conversion run by Dalton to tie it with no time left to go to overtime. Was it was great? Great? It was funny because the two four Wars teams in the league played yesterday, well not with the in terms of records the jack Wards, but um, but they played two great games. Because that was a great game, was fun to watch and then the other one was the Redskins and the Giants, and
that was a great game to watch. So pete Redskins, Giants, Dolphins, Bangos, Jags all did all did a round robin. Who's finishing first, who's last? Giants will finish first, Dolphins will finish second, Bengals finished third, Redskins will finish fourth, and the Jaguars are fifth. So you think the Jaguars are the worst team in the NFL right now? Right now? There are yes the reverse power rankings. Do they have the worst
roster in the NFL? Yeah, okay, yes. To answer your question, if you were the would you rather have Barkley and Daniel Jones and dan Evan Ingram and and uh young corners that are growing in Baker and guys like or would you rather have the Jaguars roster? I think it's pretty easy question, isn't it. Well you just answered it. Wow, that's stung. That one's stung right there. That was right. I don't know you're going down that path. Told me, I'm just asking asking you shall receive Jets over the
Steelers sixteen to ten. The Broncos beat the Lions. It sounds like they found a quarterback in Denver. Do you like that guy? I haven't watched enough tape on them, and then I know, I talked to my dad, who's a huge Bronco fan. They all love them, so you can spend it now. And he's aggressive and he'll take chances, and he's I like them. I think he's gonna be good. They do have their quarterback. Raiders over the Chargers seventeen. They still have a chance. They're saying, there's a chance.
A lot of things have to happen for them to get in. Eagles over the Cowboys. Are the Cowboys done? Pete? Well, they still have a chance, and and believe it or not, the chance isn't that far FETs. The Eagles have to play the Giants, who they struggle with last week. And the Giants look good against the Redskins, and I mean they struggle with Think about it, Eli Manning almost beat him at Philly a couple of weeks ago. So if they go there and lose and the Cowboys win, the
Cowboys are in. If had to pick today, I know it's only Monday. We'll find out a lot about injuries and everything else. He had to pick Giants Eagles, who are you picking right now? Yeah, I think the veteran I think they have enough guys who've been in big games, guys from the Super Bowl, that they know what it means to get up for one game and find a way to dig deep. I think the Eagles getta done it. But I think it's a tough game. I think it's
a close game. Yeah. Absolutely, Cardinals over the Seahawks thirtem. They have a lot of injuries, key injury Carson. Their best back is pennyback healthy. No, he's out for the years now at talking about signing Marshawn Lynch, the Dwayne Brown. Their left tackles won't play in the playoffs. They're decimated by defense, and their defense is struggled all year to stop people. Um, I think said all that they're gonna beat the Niners on Sunday night? Do you think I do?
And so you think they get the number one seed, then Packers are gonna win out and the Packers will get the number one seed. And then so who would be the two seed? It would be in the Seahawks or the Saints if they tired. It would be safe because they went there beating with Teddy bridgewayter. Remember the Chiefs over the Bears three and Patrick Mahomes was counting to ten with his fingers on the run out of the tunnel. I mean, are you talking about he's still
bothered by You're still bothered by that? I don't any eight. How about this, If you're the Bears and you're Maggie and Pace and you're sitting there, you're watching this game, how often during the sixty minutes of football do you think that we traded picks up to get Rabinsky when we could have just sat right where we were and got my homes h Or you could be guys in Jacksonville and watch that game and think, oh my god, we let Allen Robbins and get away. Well that's not
good either. Thanks Pete Wow for bringing that up. It's time for Monday Night football at Battle in the NFC North between two of the best teams in the NFC. The Green Bay Packers have won three in a row to move to eleven and three, and they can finish anywhere from the top seed to the sixth seed to
win Tonight secures the division title. They're headed to Minneapolis to face the ten and four Minnesota Vikings who have pinched the playoff spot but need to win out and have the Packers lose out to win the NFC North. Who you got tonight, Vikings? Although no, uh Doalvin Cook does worry me, but I think the Vikings get it done in that stadium. I'm not and I'm not sold on the Packers. I am. And if you're gonna give me Aaron Rodgers against Kirk Cousins, who's O and eight
on Monday night, I'm taking darn Rod. I forgot about the O and eight. I'm going Packers big game, Kirk. Not really, it would be a good I I'll tell you what. There's been Monday. Like in the past, the Monday night games, I'd be like it'd go back and watch it, or I'd have it on and I'd be doing other stuff. This year, there's been a handful of games like it's like much must watch TV, Like I'll go home, I'll eat. I'll tell I already told my wife.
My wife's like, hey, let's wrap presents to night, play Christmas music and watch Christmas movies. I said wrong, And I'm watching football, baby. You can go wrap somewhere else. That's how it's done in my house. Really, that's right. There's a king only one. And when it's Monday night football, we're not wrapping presents and we're not listening to Christmas music. J The presidents are gonna be wrapped in the same
room where the game is on. He's gonna have one eye on the game and one eye on the present wrapping. I don't wrap presents. I don't buy presents. I just paid for wrapping. I'm a horrible wrapper. You're a horrible person. Goodness, you're the one I'm talking about Christmas of you. Pete. No, I don't wrap either, and you're a better person than maybe, so we're pretty equal. All right, picks are in? Are you wrapping presents? No? I haven't bought a darn thing.
I've been a grinch this year. I mean, I love all everybody and all this stuff. I don't I'm not. No, he's gonna wake up by himself. Waffle house is open, house, Light a cigar, that's the plan. Probably about ten o'clock, sit on his back porch and ponder what happened? How do you get here? Like every other day, that's like every other day of the week, that's what? So what Are you trying to say he's gonna have a lonely boy Christmas? Is that what you're saying? No, jpre good,
I'm sure I'm not gonna I'm gonna stop. Yeah, I'm stopping. I'm stopping. I love JPS. Believable, unbelievable. Yeah, we got a bunch of other kind of people around the building that are JP. JP's being here grinding that is not true. I will be far away from this building. I can assure you of that. The Jaguars get the Colts on Sunday.
What's your initial feeling of this football game to feeling like it will be the last game of the year and the last loss of the year, and all those locks that you made you would have gone one in six? Is that correct, Pete? There's zero evidence of any locks. I don't recall ever making a lock. What I do recall is after the Houston games saying that if they continue to play this way, they might not win another game. Remember that, but you did I said that. There's there's
all the video there. We want zero that was created because of you. I created a monster you did for yourself. Let me I'll lock something. Let me locks something right now? Get back. I thought you quit the locks. I'm gonna lock. No, I'm not gonna I was gonna lock. I was about saying I'm gonna have a great Christmas, but my locks have been so bad they're gonna lose that too. My locks been so bad this year. I don't want to jinx it. No locks. Let's hope everybody who listens to
the show has a great Christmas. How about that? Yeah? Absolutely, enjoy it. Enjoy family, enjoy food, have a good time, and Mr for all your husband's out there, enjoy your credit card bill. At the end of it, Mary, Christmas, we'll talk to you or have to check back. Yeah, yes, I'm JP. We'll catch you next time. Merry Christmas. We'll see you next week.
