It is Monday, August. This is Jaguars Happy Hour. Jaguars Happy Hour is presented by Jet Home Loans and now a guy. We're pretty sure he's gonna make your cut. J E Pa. We're all day to day, but welcome in. It's Jaguars Happy Hour presented by Jet Home Loans. J. P. Shatrick with you on this Monday afternoon after preseason week three, and we've got a busy show. Today is always on Monday's, well most Mondays, whenever they both decided to show up.
It's Tony Boselli and Pete Frisco join against the just a few minutes. Preseason week three recap the Jaguars knocked off the Cowboys yesterday fourteen. We'll go through that, including Trevor Lawrence leading a couple of scoring drives in three possessions on the field and looking really good doing at eleven out of twelve passing social media questions. In the second hour, and we'll go around the National Football League. Pete Prisco Tony Busselli with us now from hearts other
than here in Jacksonville. What's up, guys, Pete, what's happening? What's up you guys? Missed me having you for the last couple of weeks. Well, we didn't do a show last week, but I know you didn't. I know you did, but you still missed me. No, we did not, and then two weeks ago. Now this is not a line. This is not you can ask people, and this show is better. I mean we've got we've got receipts, Tony there out there the tweets them, Well, I mean we
got receipts. Though, I'm just saying, yeah, Well, when you're not there are ratings go up. So that's that's they'll trade the ratings for your receipts. How's that? Um, you missed me? Seriously? Did you I missed doing the show. I was. I was at Minnesota Old Day practice and I missed the show on that day. And then last week, I know his game time and it was fun to watch. I watched the game, but I missed doing the show because I thought we do the show before the game.
But I guess Tony had to get ready for his broadcast by eating hot hot dogs. No hot dogs, it was it was cold sandwiches. Not great. Let me tell you, you you know, because the press boxes foon. As you know, Pete and the COVID world is not the same except for one place. And you know who's continues just it's off the charts. Tampa is no Dallas. Dallas. Yeah, Like, first of all, I'm not sure COVID exists in Dallas.
There's no there's not a mask to be seen, which at a hunter Bials and the food open buffet, it was glorious. I mean, I'm not saying I'm not condoning not wearing masks. If you're supposed to wear a mask, wearing masks, that's at my point. My point is most a lot of press boxes are now more boxes meals, and you don't have the spreads that you want you did pre COVID. But Dallas was true to form. Yeah, Jerry,
that places an unbelievable stadium. It really is. Yeah. By the way, speaking of cuts, I thought I might get caught that that something very uh in the national article, and I usually read your stuff. I missed this one. Unfortunately, I didn't write artful about it though. That's I was on a radio show and they asked me about it, and I put it out there and then it kind of somehow, it kind of went viral. Wasn't you know,
It wasn't a story. And then they they aggregated it and it was some of the players were getting rubbed the wrong way by some of the things that Urban was doing. And I prefaced it by saying, look too, and and everybody was coming down on the two games. You can't judge a guy, you can't judge. But but the horn, the word, let's put this way, cology was some of the things we heard. I heard from people, and and so I put it out there on and
I didn't think of anything of it. I didn't make a giant headline out of it, and just kind of went viral a little bit. So, but you know how this league he is now well, first, I mean first, first and foremost, there's one thing that all joking aside. I'd like to be a pet hard time, but I've
never known him, and now it's just the therapy. And we've had our run in and we've had disagreements, especially when I was a player, but I've never once in my life doing Pete Brisko to um say anything publicly that he did not have a very strong door score. So um, I love it or hate it, I don't always like what reports um, But it's his job and that's what he does. And I'll say this to the point that you've heard that some players, you know, feel a little collog don't starn't you know all in or
whatever you want to call it. Um. My first response to that is, who cares? UM? I played for a guy that um many a man UM complained. I thought it was awful, made no sense. College references were made, actually Army boot camp references were made, and players unhappy. I mean, you remember we had people escaping, sneaking out to like like they were like in a prison camp, to get away, and just because they didn't want to do it anymore. And the bottom line is if you win,
it doesn't matter. The only time it matters is if you don't win. Tom Coughlin had a lot of criticism when he was here as a coach. Um I played for him, I was. I loved Tom, I respect him. I didn't like what he did. Sometimes you complained to don't I like he did it? That's my point. Bottom line, He's the coach and I had a choice either buy in and do what I'm supposed to do. We're gonna find some else to play and now at the point that you' I didn't say you shouldn't buy him, just
saying what I heard was told, and that's that's Urban's prerogative. Absolutely. By the way, UM, message to the players are, I don't know, if you looked around, you know, over the last you know, decade plus outside of seventeen, they're like, there's a lot of success going on. I mean, I probably buy into the dude that's won both of the national titles, and you know what, but at the end of the day, we're all judged by one thing in
the NFL. That's wins and losses. Whether Erban Meyer or whether you're a coach has never done anything, and Urban Meyer has quite the resume and has a budget credibility. Um. And to your point of reporting players, that doesn't surprise me one bit professional athlete, I'd be one of them. Like to complain babies their babies, Tony. But Tony, look again, it's not surprised in considering some of the things that he's done. It doesn't mean it's wrong. It's just different
and it's his way. I respect that, But I just relayed what I heard. It wasn't a shot at Urban. It wasn't a shot at his coaching. I just relayed what I heard, Believe me, the millions of things I heard about Tom and you wanted to oh my gosh, uh it was you know, this is this is country club football compared to what you guys went through. So it was multi multiplied the complaining by five thousand and go from there. But yeah, I mean, look, I think
I think Urban handled it. He I guess he told Edward or the other day he had no complaints from anybody, which was his way of saying, you know, it's not true or whatever. And ed Warder put that out there in a tweet, and I'm okay with it. That's what. Yeah, Well, here's more thing on this. Here's the bottom line, and here's the reality. Um, and it ties back to what
you were saying earlier a little bit. I mean, probably a little too much panic after losing two games, people being critical critical, Probably a little too much excitement after winning one preseason in game three. We'll talk about that today playing against the j V at the Cowboys. Um, you mean bouncers and barge down since they were playing again. The bottom line is, it doesn't matter what happens in
the preseason. Urban Meyer will be judged and the players in this team will be judged like every other coach and players in the NFL. Guess what, If you win games, your method is great. If you lose games, your method is no good. But win game and Urban mers tracker. You're doing that. The proof will be in the pudding. I still think this is gonna be a learning there's a learning curve. I'm not saying because Urban's coming from
College of pro. Because he's a super young team with a rookie quarterback, and go look at the history of this league. When rookie quarterbacks starts, it's comultualist. I mean, it's up and down, it's all over the plane, and that's gonna happen. But the guy has been a great coach at every level. I mean at Utah. I remember sitting there on when I did the show with Frank Frangie the morning, I said, Frank, they should hire Urban Meyer. Flarida guys, they had him a coach, and he was.
But it's a different game in the NFL, and and he he will learn the NFL game, just like Tom learned the NFL game. There's things you can and cannot do or you shouldn't do and like, hold on, hold on two different things between Tom and Irban. This is why. Remember Urban has never been an assistant coach in the NFL.
Tom was under Parcels and a lot of the stuff Tom did was Parcels to the nth degree, right, I mean, it wasn't just call it, it was Hey, I'm gonna go take Parcels who will grind the team the physical and I'm gonna use my personality which is even harsher than Brian Parcels was. I never played for Bill, but just mean and said we're going this is how, this is how, and here's this is the same with Urban.
Tom Coughlin had a belief that this is how you play football, this is how you coach a football team, this is how you get buy it. Now when seven years later Irvan Meyer as they believe and he says, this is how you build a team, and if you do it my way, you'll have success. And guess what college were being the punting here. I'm on board. I'll go with it because listen, I was to win. I'm
tired of losing. Yeah, And and you know what, look, his history says he will be successful his history again that you gotta give him that his history says he will be successful. It's just it's just there's some things that maybe I don't think are normal. And I know some of the players didn't think we're normal, which they gotta adjust to. Just like when you guys, you guys with all the nine thousand rules you had back in the day, Hey, nobody thought those were normal because they weren't.
Who cares what color socks? Who were on the road? Why am I getting fined? Were white sock? Yeah? And and I don't know does he have any of those rules? Urban? Like, did I have to travel in a suit? And time? The photos I've seen, though, I'm not we're not allowed on the team playing We're I'm I'm stuck like you and commercial guys with a mask on for five hours? Yeah, um be, but you're But also you, I mean, and I think you'd agree with this, whether it's Urban Meyer
or any other college coach. You are a little bit of the anti college guy. You're an NFL guy. I think you don't want to college football, but you're an NFL guy, and you think the way you do things in the NFL is different, Like wholesale and the way you do in college, and so a little bit is my point is saying that I'm not saying you're wrong by the way or right, but your your philosophy, I mean,
your comments and what you see. A lot of times it is colored by the fact that you just think the NFL is so different that a lot of the stuff that a coach doesn't college just as relevant NFL level unless you're Jimmy. Jimmy did it and came in and you commanded the respect and did it his way. Here. Here's one thing that, like one of the comments have been made earlier this year was they're the guys will play for me, and that ain't the way it Isn't
you know that you might? You might, you respect the coach. You know what you're playing for real, You're playing for the almighty dollar and hold you. I'm playing for the name on the front of the jersey, Pete. That's what I played for. You're playing for the name and the family tree that's underneath that name on the front. home of the Checksonville Jaguars a bug folders. The most impressive group was the O line five of our top sixtn't play And there was a point yesterday, um even late yesterday where we should we play Trevor or not? And that was you know, my gosh, you take the first overall pick, and and then Will Richardson, who has been really arguably one of our most improved players. We moved him the right guard and thanks all you did just have walked through. We took two guys that were
recently cut, Vera and Jermaine. You know what I mean. The first time I'm shaking her hand as a pregame meal, and that's that's a new one. But the good guys they played. Walker Little played really well. Shatley's a stud and you know he hangs in there, Juwan Taylor, but everyone else was out and uh, but that was the most impressed thing that I saw offensive line protect our guys.
And we had to let the QB play head coach Urban Meyer after the game in Dallas yesterday and welcome back, It's Jaguars Happy Hour presented by Jet Home Loans, j P Shadrick, Tony Vaselli, Pete Frisco. The Jaguars gonna win over the Cowboys yesterday, thirty four team in the final preseason game, and of course it was a week with a lot of quarterback maneuvering. They named Lawrence the starter on Wednesday officially, then traded Gardner Minshew Eagles. Trevor comes
through in the final preseason game. It's a miracle. He didn't have the reps, but he played well. Pete shocker right with a great stat line eleven of twelve passing hundred thirty nine yards, two touchdowns, a hundred and fifty four rating. And as he heard Urban staying there behind that offensive line without the four of the five top guys four the five starters at least, and Urban said they were thinking about not playing Lawrence because of that
uncertainty upfront. But we'll hear from the quarterback now. He needed a little confidence before the end of the preseason. Always is. UM felt great out there obviously. I think we just executed a lot better than we have the past two games. So it was just great to see. It's a good feeling, a lot better feeling coming to locker room, uh today as opposed you know this time last week. So just one step in the right direction.
You gotta keep getting better. Um Now now they're going to count for real, So just putting everything we have into getting ready for Houston. But it was a great builds a lot of confidence going into, you know, the season. It's nice to to finish the preseason with a game like that. He had his most reps in preseason week number two in New Orleans, but then comes through yesterday with a fine performance. Tony Pete, do you hear me?
I've got you now, Tony Okay, I don't JP. I don't appreciate your little day at Pete saying, oh he didn't have any map speed and look how well he's still played because what you're basically suggesting their JP, which is asinine with a capital A, is that I'm less rep makes you a better player. Didn't say that. My argue, yes, you basically, but I didn't. Pete's whole point, and I
hate defending Pete. I hate it with a passion. But Pete's point is why would do not give this kid all the reps of the ones because you know he's gonna be your starter. Now I'm not I'm not debating Urbans methodology because I'm sure he has a methodology what he was thinking. But one thing regardless, actually, no, you're not. You're exactly arguing that, Yes you are, fine, Yeah, you're right, Okay, fine. You know what, you get better by doing things more often?
It's a proven like fat it's science matter, Like the more you do something and the more you perfer for perfect your craft, the better chance you haven't being successful. I mean, Malcolm Glaudwall, the Gladwall, the authors. It's like the role of ten thousands, Like you have to become an expert of something. You have to have like ten thousand reps, and the more you do it, the better you get. So I like and I he's the head coach.
It's his strategy. I never understood it. Trevor Lawrence was gonna be the starter outside of an injury from the moment you picked him, um with the number one overall pick. That clems it. Now. If part of the strategy was the Bill Gardner minshoes value, so you could trade him grade, fine with it. I don't know. Stop stopping. My point is this. I still wouldn't have done it because I
think reps are more important than anything for a young player. Well, okay, let's let's just say for the sake of the argument, they were doing it to build up his trade value. Nothing he did the preseason built up his trade value wasn't very good. My might have heard it. So it made no sense. There was no reason to take away those number one reps. Competition. All you have to do is go out in the practice field. One of those isn't like the other. It made no sense whatsoever. Gardner
minshow's gone? Now? You see Trevor Lawrence he's the guy. And the whole charade I called it the charade. That's what it is. The charade is over. It was a joke. What you hadn't creating. I love competition, I've always wanted it and craved it and players love it. That was no competition. Did you see anybody else compete in first? Is Shaque Griffin compete for his spot? I would probably say no, I think he took all the reps? Okay, then why would you do that with your quarterback? Pete?
I would who needs them more? I didn't get it that one. Look, so so it's over now, Pete. That's the thing. It's over now. Oh yeah, they got they got the tuna sandwich for Gardner Minshew and uh and off they go and now they're on to Houston. Fin point, JP, was for you to take a cheap shot of Pete like that? No, it wasn't cheap. Paid for that. I'm ready for that. That's there was a point, J. Would you agree with you? Agree with me? And Tony? Say it again, Pete? Do you agree with me and Tony?
I don't Well, I mean, yeah, you need some reps, but I don't mind the strategy of trying to get as much as you can for Gardner Minshew. If that was the DGY did work terrible? Okay, didn't work out? What else would you want to see from Gardner or from from Trevor in the reps that he didn't get working all the reps with the offense. Better what offense, there's nobody they've got two receivers out for the linemen were out yesterday. Chris Manners didn't playing. We're talking about
we're talking about JP. They weren't in practice either. What do you mean aund for a lot of what are you talking about? Gardner Minshew should have got minimal number of reps with the first team, and Trevor Lawrence should have got the most of the majority. That's how you handle that. The reason urban Meyer is here is because he had Trevor Lawrence. He wasn't coming if he didn't have the first pick. So listen, we've we've we've. I mean,
you and I were on the same pig. JP is wrong because I don't think in any other area, JP, you would argue that taking less reps as you're trying to protect perfect a craft is better than less rep Like I just like I don't buy that. Okay, Well, well now he's gonna get them all. So well, I think he should have been getting them all from the beginning. Well he did, so now he's getting them all. So he's not bringing this up because JP, you said something.
You know, I'm just saying, so you're the you're at the fault of it. Okay. Secondly, Um, no one loves um the head coach Moore UM than me when you give props to the offensive line. And he's right, that group played well. And I liked that he called him out, and I liked that he mentioned made mention of Walker Little and I liked that he talked about um the move that Will Richards and maybe and not getting reps and moving the right in the right guard and he
and he played well. I think Wallace Simmons played well. I thought he played the best. I thought he played as well as any of them. I agree with you about Shatley. I think Shatley is a good center. Um, is Linda better? Yes? Is it a huge drop up? No, you can win with Tyler Dadleiott center in at that position. Does all these things make the team as well? Those things make the team. I would keep him, I don't know, you know, I would keep them. That's a big body.
That's a big man, big physical human being. Who he's a touch slogan, he's a touch slow getting out of his stand. Yeah, he's not He's not lightening quick, but he's a big body. Uh the way, um I will say this though I loved it and I agree that everything that um Urban said, keep in mind that was the second and third team defensive line. There was not one starter. There's some backups that where out. There were rotational players that didn't play, and so you better block
those guys. They didn't play their top players. That's my point. I didn't play the top forty. It wasn't just the starters out. A lot of any guy who they knew was making the team did not play. And and I'm not taking anything away. Urban's comments were dead on and I agree with them, but you have to also at the same time realize, um, you better block those guys because they're not gonna be enough for roster. We're not very many. And there were a couple of pressures given
Jowan Taylor gave up a couple of pressures. I thought one on the inside guy got inside of them on one. But but at all they did a really good They did a really good job the offensive line. But Pete, you know what, they didn't do great at and JP, I don't know if you have the statistics from the first quarter or first half. I still think we've struggled to run the ball in the preseason. Yep, I agree. I would have liked to see a little bit more of a run game. First half, first half rushing for
the Jaguars twenty let's see your yards. Yeah that's not good, that's bad. But you gotta you gotta admit. The message of this game was, Okay, we're gonna make it. Make the quarterback have a nice game. That's what they wanted and said, yeah, he made it a point. Hey, Daryl Bevill, we're gonna throw the ball down the field some today. And they did some different things. They had some pre snap movement. The first two games they did nothing. They lined up in ice A rounds and just ran their routes.
And they're not good enough to do that. Well, my favorite thing about the whole thing is you saw that. I mean that Trevor Lawrence is, which we knew, he just stud. We made it that we made for the touchdown in the corner over there. Oh yeah, he's just he is just a flat stud. Makes it look easy. Yeah, I mean it was so fun to watch and and that's why I you know again, I know they're playing against backups. I know that. Um, I know they are playing a bunch of guys that might not be in
the roster. I get that. It doesn't matter. Just watch the watch the game, watch the tape. The dude does things that you just are It's just so pretty. It's so beautiful, it's so great. It's so urging. Um And what I love when he gets hit, there's no flinch. He stands in there, he steps into throws as he's getting hit. He's there's no fear, and he's just just throws it. We're watching this tight spiral. It comes out on time. I mean it's just that throw. That throw
the doorset was a bullet across the field. I mean it was just a touchdown. This touchdown throw, I think that's what this is gonna be. To was this to uh? Is this the one I'm talking about where he throws it Cooper to the pylon? I mean yeah, I mean he may. That looks so easy like it was. It just flicked his rist and it was on top of the receiver. Yeah, they have their generational quarterback. Let's let's put it. Put it they do. That was the positive
out of this whole day. I don't like. That's where I'm like, I don't care if they're playing against you know, you know, the third fourth, it doesn't matter to me. Like you can just watch him operate and it's like, Okay, we got the guy right. If it was a seven on seven drill, you have the guy because he looked the part. He just looks right. Yesterday, Yeah, I agree. Now the rest of it, like watching our defense dominate like a bunch of guys who probably won't be playing Like, Okay,
they did their job, great. I I'm not gonna get too excited. They still don't rush the past. They still don't rust that. That's worrisome. They had trouble getting to the quarterback with our starters against their backup. That just worries me. All right, let's come back in a moment, and we'll talk about this coming up in a bit. But I'm worried about chasaw. Oh. Oh, that's what we call a business a teaser. I don't think I'll give you a quick tease. I don't think he's the starter.

Shadrick with Tony Vasselli and Pete Prisco, a day after the Jaguars knocked off the Cowboys in preseason Week three, and yeah, another day against the run. For the most part, certainly early in the game, played well against the Cowboys running game. But again it's the number two offense. None of the Cowboys starters were out there. But it is a good sign at least now before the break Tony coach Baselli
over here, Priscoe is benching Caleb and Jason. Well, it looks like they benched them. I mean, who came out first yesterday, Tony, Tony, are you with us? Yeah, I'm here, hear me, got you, now, got you? But Tony, who came out first? I was the starters were Joha and I want to I'm pretty sure it was smooth. Yeah, they've got it. They've got it listed as a four. The Nickels start actually, so four linemen, two linebackers and three corners and two safeties. It was, But how do
they listed starting? And the one smooth? Where the ends? There you go? There you go before I get before I get to the chase on point. I been on Davon Hamilton's I think I think he's had a great camp. I think he's a really good player. I think this system is perfect for him. I think he's gonna be dominating in the room this year, and I do think they're gonna be very good against the room with those big boy he's been been the best, don't you agree. In the preseason he's been of the down guys, he's
been the best of that group. Yeah, he's gonna good. I mean, I mean really good. Yeah, I mean you can't say physical powerful. So if you go to those switch gears to Chase on um, guys watching, he might be the fourth best defensive end on this team. I mean, Josh Allen, the odd Ward I'm playing. Those are my two starters. If they're everyone's healthy, wants smooth. He's next, came a leb and Chase on probably fourth, and the rookie has a ton of upside kind of where are
we getting from the kid? He's fast, He's fast. Yeah, I just had haven't seen it. I mean, now, I watched I wanted I did watch the game from yesterday, and I wanted to see something. I didn't see anything. He's caught up in got Ley pressure. Yeah, he gets caught up in a lot of stuff all the time. Like he stunted and he stunted, he stunted on the inside. I had a tackle end game and he came inside. Do you remember that play? And he didn't he ran
into a guy, didn't do anything. Well, I mean if you look at just from pure production and and and Irvin's told us he wants to make this, you know, take as much as the subjective subjective nature out of it as possible and make it an objective. Well, just from a production standpoint in the preseason, I mean, John
Ward's better. He's a better football player right now. I'm not saying Jason can't become that or improve, but right now, I mean where would you rank compete if you're looking Josh Allen's number one, wards number two, smoots number three,
and songs number four, that's he. I mean, yeah, so Chason has to be especially he hasn't make players in the special teams and easier easier, you know, rotational player to come in and you know, trying to get a fresh pasture, which certain obvious passing situation, which which is starting to ask the question then is he uh, oh,
come on, I'm not gonna use the B word. Jet Peace second year man, second year But no, look, I'm I thought he was I'll be the first one in a minute thought he was gonna be an explosive edge rusher, and um, I haven't seen anything any of it, none of it zero And it fairness that Kenny was miscast last year. I thought he's not a down defensive n gonna play a standard up Oh. I think everyone agrees
that that, but we just haven't seen. You know what, you don't see the explosiveness of the edge like that, just quickness and suddenness that gets on top of tackles and gives them trouble. And that's what you have to be able to do if you're gonna play at that size. What about the there's not really violence either, you know what I mean? Like jehad Ward plays a little bit with some violence, by he also plays bigger, you know
what I mean? I mean tougher. I don't know. Look, maybe cast On turning on during a regular season, but so far we have I haven't seen any of them, and I don't think I'm alone. Now rank the defensive linemen how they played. If you had to rank those interior guys down, guys, go ahead and rank down. Hamilton has been the best of them. Hamilton, Jamal Brown, and
Robertson Harrison the three best. I mean, that's easy. Malcolm Brownlow Malcolm what I said, Jamal, but sorry, but you know what I mean, Malcolm, But but yeah, but if you had to rank, I think Robertson Harris is in vetteran artismo. He's been yeah, I mean yeah, he just watching watching, watching practice. Don't worry about I mean because sometimes those veterans are preseason games. But penetration. But that's
a good down three. That's a good down three. And the question is how many I mean three or four. We've been a four or three for so long. I gotta think about. I mean, how many interior guys you keep? Six or seven? Probably six? So who are there? Yeah, that's the that's the question. I mean. Does Tayman Bryant make the thing? He looked great against the bouncers yesterday. He actually made some blaze. If they have a bouncer's league, you'd be really good. I'm trying to does gos just
make it? He flashed early? Got is Doug Coston Costin was good last year. Daniel Kal he's a draft pick to Philly. He hasn't done anything either, has he before? This? J To Fowley from USC. I think he's making the team. Yes, he makes the team. But oh, I think he looks good. I mean, I've been impressed with watching him, you know. I think he's a he has a little bit of a rush, A big, physical, strong kid I forgot about. Yeah, he's he might be your fourth best. He's he's probably four.
You might have five, six or and if he keeps seven, they might come from another team. Yeah, I mean it's possible. Yeah, you're gonna scour the waiver wire. You have the first choice, and if you have an upgrade of one of those guys. But Hayman Brian make the team based on what he's done because he missed so much time. The answer be no, But he might make it and then go a day later, you know what I mean? Yeah, depending on what else is out there. Can you trade them for anything? Um?
Probably the same ham sandwich you God forbid you. I mean, if you're gonna do that, I don't think anybody's good MS good trade for him. I don't think he I mean I don't. I just don't see him getting cut. No, So okay, so if he doesn't get cut, that means that you have five automatic who's six and seven? They might be on somebody else's team. It's entirely possible. Let's take your time out. Let's put it this way, Jaffie.
If they have a major injury to one of those down guys, they got problems, We'll take your time out. Let's come back. You know, I don't want to take away from wa they played well, but Dallas, you know, we didn't play a lot of guys, and they played Verdanil on defense as we did. But confidence that that's the most unique position all of sport and getting a little bit of a rhythm, you know, we made that trade and going
with him and he did not disappoint. That's Urban Meyer after the game yesterday in Dallas, discussing the quarterback position in the playoff. Trevor Lawrence and welcome back, It's Jaguars Happy Hour, JP, Shadrick, Pete Frisco and Tony Boselli after a thirty four fourteen Jaguars winning preseason Week three. What are you guys laughing at? What in the world? What I agreed that everything he said until I liked that. He said, listen, they're playing, but now we played preseason.
But confidence is good. And then when he had to add and now that it's his job, going with him, going with him. Now he's gonna get all the reps and Pete b happy. I mean, my gosh, again, the word that used for a charade and the funny thing is tony. As many times as I pushed back on it, there were half the fans who pushed back on me. You know that. Yeah, but why what was there? What was their argument? Oh, it's great to have competition. Urban knows what he's doing. Have you ever coached you know,
I mean, my gosh, the same coach. That's a fair questions, great question I've coached. I have you. I have coached man Episcopal. I saw him slam his headset down one night feed on the sideline to the playoffs. I thought, who now was that list? I did all the word trust me, I did all the work. Yeah, I paid. It paved the way for him to be a quarterback coach at Troy. To be honest, if you if you asked me if I've ever coached, I coach every damn day in my own mind. Okay, have I actually done it? No,
I coach, Um, I believe in competition. I also believe in this. Players know, Like if you gave everybody a secret ballot where they could give an anonymous um vote and saying who is going who is the starting quarterback of this team? The day after we drafted him, I said Trevor Lawrence. And then after the first O t A, and then after the first practice of training camp, and then after the second week after preseason game one too. So I mean, and Pete, you know this. I get coaches.
I get what they're trying to do. I like it, and it is relevant at some positions, no doubt about it. But everybody knew that Trevor Lawrence was the starter until he wasn't, meaning he had to lose the job, not win the job. There should have been no sivable way he lost the job. That's my that's my point, Pete. I'm agreeing with you, Like something like crazy would have to happen where he can't throw the ball right, so aside from an injury, there's no way you should ever
lost the job. Ever, it should not have been a competition ever, and listen, look, year you had a competition quarterback, competition for a line of r now the Patriots right now, Mac Jones and Cam Newton legitimate starter. She was not a legitimate starter. There's no competition. Listen. When I came in, there was a Thompson there's a competition for the left tackle job even and we laughed. We laughed right in his face when he said that, like, come on, who
is your competition? I'm trying to remember who was your fact. I can't even remember his name. And what would you have had to done to lose that? How would you have lost that, Tony? I would have to trip. I don't know. Like I remember him saying that, I looked at what do you craze competition? I remember the first day I went out with amaze. As you're with the threes, I'm like, okay, I'm like, I'm like whatever, like throwing
guys around on the practice field. And then you know what, I said that, look, Michelle's a bust already, we're going to the best. Was um the first day I showed the camp, they told him I didn't enough to earn it during okays to be the starter. Now I'm like okay, but it's it's that kind of thing, that kind of stupidity is we're coaching across the line. Well in players nor the teammates knew and by the way, I knew, Yeah, so what So you're not gonna do it. You're gonna
go yeah, so what? But what what's the purpose of it? That's all he's saying, what's what's the what's the method to the madness? And guess what? Doing it to a left tackle? Big deal. I got the same amount of reps during Okays. It was just what the different? It didn't matter because there's no timing. But he hadn't done it. If you hadn't done it practice in training camp, it would have mattered. If you didn't work with the group
together in training camp, that would have mattered. Um. Yeah, but I missed four weeks of camp because my n injury and I still had no issues. That's right. When you flew back on the five five million dollars jet and nobody else got the fly h that's the That's what you get when you're the second overall. You don't get his starting job, right, No, you gotta earn it.
You gotta earn it, not I'm not trying to criticize urban I mean he knows more about managing and leading a football to say, Yeah, my whole point is that every guy on the team knew. I've been in these situations. Do you know who the starter is? Like most of the time you go into practice and Pete, how often did I tell you walking up the field early? And ok? Are camp saying he can play? He can't play? He can he can't play all the time. And here's the
other thing. Urban Meyer knows fifty thousand billion more things than I do about football, and he always will and he always has. He's a professional coach. He's a great coach. He's been a great coach. But that doesn't mean everything he does is right. And that's why I always getting pushback or you're not a coach, you're not. Look, I know what I think is right, and I can say that, and I can and I can say the quarterback competition was not right, and if you wanted to explain it
to me, I might understand it. But I don't see any rational reason to do that. Agreed anyway, So yeah, there you have it. Um, I think we figured it out. I can't remember because we we've kind of jumped on the common shocking. Wow, the entire hour has been hijacked. And that's okay. It's good to have you guys both back. The last week's show two weeks ago was a really highly right at show. Um, Pete is back with us now though, where were you two weeks ago? Pete? Minnesota? Minnesota? Yeah,
but I was all day with the Vikings. They're not gonna be very good, are they. Yeah, they are. They'll be better than you think. It's just a quarterback has that Glen's looking his face a big game problem. I mean, Keenan mccarthelson. You know, Kennedy Paul is there, he's there to a lot of guys there. How is your defense gonna be better? Pete? A lot better better? They look. You know, they get back when they signed Tomlinson from the Giants. He's a big power guy. They get Michael
Pierce back from COVID after that last year. Those two big bodies are nasty in the middle. That Hunter comes back from the injury, he should be back getting sacks all over the place. Bar missed a lot of think about this, Tony that Christmas game when Alvin Kamara scored what when he scored six US downs in that game against him? One guy starting right now for them, the starting in that game. One one guy was Harrison is
the only one. Yeah, so they'll be better on defense a matter if the quarterback and uh and throws the football not in the big game. You know what about they I saw they signed Everson Griffin back to the bed rotation. Yeah, they got guys that can rotate in there that I'm telling you. They're gonna be good on defense. And you know they drafted that Darassol kid at left tackle. He's going to be the starting left tackle. He's good player.
They'll be better on the offensive line. So look, I think they'll be the second team and they're not gonna beat the Packers, ain't gonna be the Lions under Marks Tutelage. And and then the offense blows up and Brunell's a head coach in a couple of years. Can you imagine how about that? Wouldn't that be something? I hope he hires his old friend to come do something. We wouldn't have you on the show and we would have ratings
every Monday on the show. Yeah, they might need you to go up there and work on Tona Swart right tackle fin. Only a chance of ever getting an NFL job is Morphernell getting a head codjob. Funny I say that to him sometimes he's like, no, no, no, on that. On that note, let's come back. Shadrick, Pete Prisco, Tony Boselli. The News of the day. Reacting to that win over the Dallas Cowboys thirty fourteen. The Jaguars get it done in Dallas. Trevor Lawrence. We had a couple of touchdown drives in three possessions, with the first group eleven of twelve passing,
the offense had some much needed success. They were had had not found the ends on in fact, as a starting offense yesterday or until yesterday. Now yesterday, they were a bun of offensive linemen out of the game. Four the five starters were not available for the game. Trevor Lawrence. There was some questions, at least according to urban Meyer the day before the game, that would they even put
him out there behind the offensive line. After the game, Trevor Lawrence commented on that group and how well they played that We talked about it. At the end of the day. We felt good with the five that we were running out there. You know, it's obviously it wasn't our starting five, but those guys have been busting their tail and they were ready and um and practice. They were ready, had a good week and you know, I felt felt good with it, and we had a good
plan to wear. You know, we did take some shots, but also getting the ball in my hand stay on the move that helped a lot run. Game was great. Like I said, I thought we just came out and executed well and that always feels good. Execution is important. They got that done yesterday guys and eleven and twelve passing some nice throws from Lawrence, a couple of touchdowns, and everybody's feeling pretty chipper today. Tony, Well, number one, you should, and I agree with Urban out you know,
maybe he's overdoing it as he said you should. You got a young football teaven try to win. Losing stinks, and yes it doesn't count. And he realizes it doesn't counts. He even mentioned it, you know next you know, two weeks they matter in the wind lost uh column. But I still think gaining confidence is good for a young football team. Gaining confidence, I don't care who you're playing,
is good for a young quarterback. And I don't want to minimize the decision that Urban had to make either, because I don't think it was just you know, cut
and dry. You know a lot of guys would have said, hey, I'm not running out my franchise quarterback, my first overall pick with the back offensive the backup offensive line outside of you know, just the right tackle and so um, I think it's you know, that was a tough decision because you have the way, you know, getting the reps, which I think we all argued earlier is important for Trevor Lawrence um against not having your starters out there and the risk that you've kind of put the young
quarterback in. I do think that Darryl bebbl had a very good plan. They moved the pocket, the ball got out, they took shots, They were smart about it. Play action passed um and so hats off to Urban Meyer and Dary Bubble because it's you know, we minimize it sometimes, but those are big decisions, and you know as a coach that if it goes the wrong way, it's all on you. Do you think Um he wanted to play him so that he could go into the season. I mean, if he doesn't play the last the images the New
Orleans game, and that wasn't great. So I mean so kind of he had to balance playing behind that line and having his quarterback feel good going into the regular season because I I said, a different guy even after he's playing against backups. But he was a different guy yesterday as he came off the field. You know what I mean, Tony, if he if he goes into the regular season with that New Orleans game as his last you know game action, I don't necessarily think he feels
his confident and as good as he did. Uh, listen. It's always good having confidence and getting you know, you know, having that feeling of success and seeing it and then watching on tape, no doubt. But I also think Trevor Lawrence is playing a lot of big games. I think he'd been confident regardless. I mean, I don't think you'd get to his level without having an inner confidence, an
inner drive um that thinks you can overcome anything. But yeah, overall, I think it was a positive, and I think that's one of the things that Urban Meyer was waying Jaguars defense yesterday's stout again up front, especially early. I remember as Irvan said that they didn't play many of the any of the starters in Dallas yesterday, But I guess some things done up front early, as they have throughout
the preseason so far. I guess the question is, though, is that real because they haven't played a true starting, a running game yet in the preseason. So pete um is that it's a good start. I'm not gonna give not not give the credit. They've done a good job considering who they're lining up against. But can that translate when it gets real? Week one, Week two, Week three? Well, I mean, it's hard to really evaluate that because you
don't know who they were playing. You know, they're playing guys that aren't going to be in the league, and a lot of those guys are going to be on practiced one. That's why it's such a tough evaluation. I didn't think Sydney Jones had a great game yesterday. I thought that was I mean, if you if your corner having if your corner has that many tackles, that means the guy in front of him as the football on you, Am I wrong? Tony? Did you think he struggled a
little bit? Well? That touchdown was great man coverage and then he got beat on another one in front of him. I got beat on another one in front of him. Um, I don't know. It wasn't a great day for him. But um, I think defensively, it's hard. It's been a hard evaluation to them. I think the run defense is better because they got better players. They're gonna be more physical, They're bigger. You know, you heard her been talking about that they wanted to get big. Are they're bigger guys? Well,
I'll say I'll say it this way. Um, go back to seventeen. Um, the last time this team had success. I remember Logs and I were talking in the preseason they couldn't run the ball an offensively. I was struggling, and we, Jeff and I thought it was a major issue going into the season, and they came out and just hammered Hammer and Texans and ended up being a very good running team that year. Um. We also, if you remember the preseason that Vanta defense struggled to get
off the field in preseason. You can't. You can't. Really, That's my whole point. So, yes, did they have success. Um, they haven't run the ball great offensively. Does that mean they're not gonna be a good run team? No? Um, they've been great against the run defensively. Does that mean they're gonna be the Bears against the run? No? Um? Because you don't know. I mean a lot of its matchups is a lot of it's who's playing on their team. You know you're not getting the best, you know they're vanilla.
You know you're vanilla. Um, you don't know really what you have, especially when you have a team that has been a bunch of new bodies, new veterans and new pieces and a really young team. You're not gonna know until I would argue, you're not gonna go until probably a week two, three four. What this team really is? You you know, the offensive line, If I'm not mistake, they ever played together at all? Have they no? Heed? That's right, so aside from training camp, they haven't played
at all. And that it's the same offensive line to have last year. I'm not worried about. But in the run game, you gotta get a little bit of it takes you gotta get the rust off. You can start banging some people a little bit. I mean, I you know better than I do, But I would think that would be the case. It's not the end of the world because you have veterans and guys who played together before they ran the ball last year well to run as a run team, I mean they pushed people around
a little bit. They were I mean they had a thousand yard rusher. I mean at times they were very good. Um, it's her to feel good about anything when you're one in fifteen. But yeah, I mean, how do they open the how do they open on the offensive line? Opening day? Is everybody going to be around for that? Word? Is? I mean? I think everyone's back. You know that that's what they're indicating. I mean, I can't tell you for
sure that's the case. And they were working a little bit last week on the side right kind of they could have if it was a regular season game, maybe they go I think so, yeah, because Norwell has felt like that. I think for a couple of weeks, servants just kind of holding them out veteran kind of play, and Linda seems it feels like the similar idea, and then Cam Robinson turned the ankle and the same idea there. And if if can is back off the COVID nineteen list,
he's still on the list right now. By the way, that that competition never really materialized with Walker Little, he was terrible. It was terrible against the world. Yeah, I think he played better yesterday, and I mean he's a working progress. He's gonna get better with his hands, and
I think a lot of that. I mean, not to throw my fellow media members under the bus, but there was a little bit of a combination of you know, the media hyping up everything he did during practice and then the head coach coming out and every time so when asked about Walker Little, he was very effusive in his praise. Now he could have been doing that to motivate Cam Robinson and Juwan Taylor to get them going a little bit. But I mean, clearly, right now, Cam
Robinson is a better left tackle than Walker Little. The interesting thing is, I mean Juwan Taylor asked struggle at times, but we have not seen, outside of a few practices, Walker Little getting many reps at right tackle. It's funny as soon as you say, I hate to do this, but he just did it. Old media theme. The Jacksonville media is there every day under the bus. How about this though? He said his, he said his, he said his fellow media members, that's a win for us. Oh
he's given into that a couple of years ago. That's that's old is I did give it a long time ago. But but you did. You just threw Derago and Mark Law Oh sure, who else? You threw them all under the bugs? I mean it's true. I mean they was that because I would listen to some of those shows and I thought Walker Little was the next coming in you the way they were talking, and then when I saw him, he was a big man. But there's something off and it's gonna take him a little while. Cam
Robinson is the starting left tackle. The line will be exactly, the line will be exactly the same way it was a year ago, exactly. Agreed. Let's come back in a moment the way, who's the tight end? Who's this? Are they still going to get a tight end that the Bucks released the guy today that would be interested if they claimed them. Tanner Hudson, you can catch the ball, can't block, but he can get the ball. I think you gotta. I mean, it's the weakest position on the team.
They they got better as a blocking tight end. But are they better with it same group and man hurts than the same group in effort? Are they better now than they were last year? And by the way, Mannards wasn't good block and last week against the Warland either. My question is Pete, I'm asking are they better? Are they better? No, They're not better. I don't alright, hud Tanner Hudson was cut by the box, caught a bunch of passes. The criticism of as he can't block, you
don't need him blocked catch the ball. That would be one you claim on waivers. I think we'll get into that discussion a little bit, and some of the other positions that could be tough to cut for the Jaguars, and how many you keep at certain spots might affect another position group like tight ends as well. It's all coming it up when we get to keeping it real. Presented by a Woodbridge by Robert Mundavi. It's coming up

You know, you build relationships with guys and it just sucks, you know, seeing guys go. It's just the nature of the business. You can't can't keep everybody. And um, guys, you know there's certain situations that are better for them and the team. He just you just never know. Um. But I mean
that's just part of it. You gotta keep going and and the team that you do have, you gotta make the most of it. Um. But yeah, So we had a guy, a receiver coming Devin Smith today. I think you got here yesterday dove and made that like six yard catch and I think it was in the first half. I mean, just stuff like that. It's crazy. He just got here and it goes out there runs ago catch the six dyard pass like stuff like that is It's so weird you don't get used to it. But um,
I really like the group we have. It sucks that we gotta cut the team down. I don't know, and I don't make those decisions. I'm glad I don't because we got a lot of guys that deserve me on this team and it's just stuff. So Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence after the game in Dallas yesterday and welcome back. It's Jaguars Happy Hour on a Monday afternoon. J P. Shadrick, Pete Prisco, Tony was Elly and time now for keeping
it Real, presented by a woodbridge by Robert Mundavi. Open up a winner today, Real Ingredients Award winning wine by Robert Mundavi. Tougher cut for the Jaguars guys Wide receiver or safety? Tony, what do you think wide receiver or safety? UM? I think you're both top for different reasons. I think you got probably multiple guys at the UM safety position that probably will you know, you might get a guy or two who's cut and go play somewhere else. UM.
I'm not sure that's the case. At wide receiver. I think after your top three, UM, I think it becomes difficult and you are in. I wouldn't be surprised if you're picking up a receiver from someone else's roster that gets cut. I think one of the things that they have to do receivers. They gotta get faster um and more speed. I mean, that's why the old Devin Smith thing cut him coming in. It's interesting. I'm not saying he's gonna make the team. You've been here from total
two days. But the kid can run and you showed that. And I'm not sure why he was out on the street and not working, but the guy can fly. Um, you know. So I think they're bolt top cuts. I think. I mean, I look at the wide receiver position and I mean pete, pete tough because you have to have five or six receivers. That's not that's caught up because oh my gosh, you know they're cutting a really good play. All right, let's go through the receivers, the top three
or them, right? Who would you who? Who's four or five and six? Are you counting hand news the receivers. That's a refern guy. I mean, well, here's my question for Edmund. Why doesn't he ever even catch a punt or anything out in preseason? Like I want to tell you that was weird. He can't afford to lose that guy. So that's why I didn't put him out there much. He's the only guy who waiting. You can't afford to
lose Trevor Warrant either. You put him out there. Okay, yeah, but he's not taking shots like a part retarder Tony. I'm saying, go out there and just say, hey, go fair, catch a few in the game. He's got it before though, Yea, all right, so he's if you count him, he's a four. He's a fourth guaranteed. So where's five, six and seven comes from. I don't think Colin Johnson's making that. I've heard that those rumblings have been going on for a while that he didn't make. I don't think he did
anything he can't before. I'd keep him. I mean, if you're going by production, I don't know how you cut Jeff Cotton Jr. You don't. You don't bare minimum. He's on the practice spot, but you don't right away you might, okay, like the Cardinals e Shan Johnson for that and kept Andy Isabella for now. Keishan Johnson's and a treating guy. I take a look at him. Yeah, I mean I I think there's one or two receivers that are on other teams right now that are gonna be here all right.
Philip Dorsett, Philip Dorset's making it. Why do you say that because he had a long catch yesterday. Well, because he's he was brought in here in this offseason and he's got some speed. He's one of the only guys that can run though. Right, he's speed guy. He has speed. But he's been between the where he's been the Colts, Patriots, anywhere else Colts Patriots and we're missing one I think. But he runs though, okay, right, but does he play fast?
It's like do you ever watch Philip Dorsett and when he played for the Colts or the Patriots, You're like, oh my gosh, they don't. If he gets ball in his hands, watch out, he's he's gone. Okay, so you're cutting him then, I'm not saying that it's hard. I don't know. You're right though, the six and seven aren't on the roster. Rood Now, how about Lakwan Treadwell. I didn't see anything. Why are you going to keep him? I'm just going through the roster. I wor JP. If
you don't keep him, who's picking him up? He's been out there for eighty thousand years. How about Pharaoh Cooper Farrel Cooper looks slow to me for some reason. Did he have him He had a major knee and ury a couple of years ago. I think he hasn't been the same guy. Ferrey Cooper. Only if you're keeping him because you know you can play special teams. Is a team's guy, back up, part returner, kickoff returner. You know, he probably could be one of those guys who you
know you don't. I'm just saying that's why you would keep him. Yeah, Josh Hammond has been productive. If you're going by production about Josh, you know what I worried about Josh Hammond, and he has been producted to very good. Um, try any camp and you're right, Jp, just by production, he should make it practice. I worried about JOHNH. Hannon being one of those guys in the preseason. Is a good route runner, He's smart, but he's not explosive. And
does he get swallowed up in the regular season. He's practice plot, he'll be practiced pot you know the other kid will make it before he goes. He can run a little bit. So here's the other question. That's the wide receiver. So let's switch Austin. Now, let's tame on. Austin said to him right, good point that there was a quad strain I believe was the diagnosis when he went down the other day at practice. I mean he actually was one of the few guys that bought them
feed to that offense. Yeah, so we'll see his status. I guess if he's healthy, do you keep him? Yeah? Maybe because he can do stuff out of the backfield too. I mean, right, you can get if you can make up some craft for him. Yeah, maybe I would. All Right, that's wide receiver. I think I think you gotta look across the league, go and find out. You know, there's gonna be some fast, good players who get cut. Let's
move to safety down. Guys. We've talked through the wide receiver position that people are gonna try to stash on the PRAC. Take us through the safety position. Now. The strong safety spot had four code number ones again on the depth chart this week. Guys, where do you go? Well, they're playing Rudy uh bod In in the dime. He's the dime. He's playing next a mile with Jack. If you notice that, Yeah, he's gonna be on the roster. So he's in. You know, uh, Cisco is gonna be in.
I think Cisco ultimately, I think by the midpoint of the season, he's your starting strong Jenkins is in. Yeah, he's so those three. Those three are in. Whose four? Question? Are you keeping four or five? Depends on special teams. If you keep water, you keep it for special teams. Right, what about Daniel Daniel Thomas. I'd keep Daniel Thomas in front of Winger. I think Daniel Thomas makes the teams your four stage. That's who I would keep, and then
Wingers gone. So that would that would make Winger gone, Wilson gone, and Josh Jones gone. Well, if you keep, if you keep five, then it comes down to Josh Jones or Wilson. So you got Winger cut. Yeah, man, that's an end of an error. I'm not saying that. I mean, you asked me really rude. What did you say really rude? It's really rude, man, I mean, according to PFF, he's like good in the back then telling you, Okay, there you have tough cut. J J Kid plays hard person.
You asked me if there's you like to keep Highty. We're not saying anything bad about the guy who do you want to cut? Why don't you put up your mouth. I'm good, I'm letting you guys cut anybody. Everybody's gonna make. Yeah, we're gonna have the biggest practice squad on the planet when we come j it's a cruel business. It is. Who do you keep it off? Into wine? And do you keep it? Or nine nine? I keep the five starters chat Lee Walker, little Walker, little of seven and
you got to the city. I personally I would keep um seventy seven over over BArch. I have another question. We mentioned tight end a moment we mentioned tight end. You're keeping an extra receiver if you kind of agnue in there, maybe, so do you take it away from tight end? You only keep three tight ends? What do you keeping? Where do you get that you're keeping hurt and who probably feral and the rookie that's it, and then the rest of them go, that's it. So you
keep it? Pick up Tanner Hudson already made that claim for he can catch the ball. Yeah, there's another one. There's a chance I and Thomas could get cut to Carolina too. How about this Jordan Franks tight end in Cleveland got released today and he had. That's Felipe Franks as brother. He had a good, good couple of good games. Do he's interested too, is he? He? Is? He? A? He didn't catch it. He caught a bunch of passage yesterday. Yeah, he got a bunch of past yesterdays against the Atlanta.
I think I'll pick up a tight end and make it four. I think there's three to five guys and other rosters right now that will be Jaguars. Do you have, oh more than that, more than five receivers? It might be one of one or two off as one off as a linemanie what if it? Yeah? Maybe not? Okay, tight end three, one tight end. I'm saying one tight end, one receiver for sure. That's two were I think there's
a running back that's three. Okay, defensive line backup, defensive line possibility m hm, David Bryant to get somebody else? What are you talking about? Yeah, so don't want there's five um not because he's not gonna get released um corner no saifety notes. So maybe five, you're right? Four or five? Defense? You might have to defensive line all the way about line back there like quarter miles Jack like Damian Wilson, and who's your what's the rookie they
got Um Chappelle rookie. Yeah, is the dime linebackers. So you don't you know, he's like the linebacker. You're keeping four inside guys the three they're keeping for, or Damon Wilson, Miles Jack and and the other ones on the and the other ones on another team, probably the practice squad, the other kid. So it could be five. Like I said, you're just trying to be stubborn and open three, you know, I said, Pete, I said three to five number one. I asked you, is it more than five? And you
should It would probably be more. It will be more than five. Okay, Well that quarterbacks do you keep? You keep two? Right, I keep three keeping them off you keep looting on the practice squad. Yeah, he could get clamped. I think he could get claimed with COVID. I want three quarterbacks on the active roster. I mean I think so, I mean unless you're sure, unless you're sure, Luton is not getting picked up. And what I mean I think Luton is a big arm and he played well in
the preseason. He showed flashes last year, So okay, I cut the in the line you didn't cut it started by Walker. Would come down between Bart and h will Richins on the team, Will Archins is on the team. That's that's eight. And if it's nine, between wall Simms and Ben Burch m one backup tackle or you count will Richardson is a swing guy, could play books. I think he They feel comfortable Will Archsons can play on
all four positions. Now, I will say Urban after the game said that they didn't have five of the top six linemen and Bart did not play. Does BArch counting that, No, it's between Bart and Wallace Sims. No, I'm saying of the of the five guys missing from the game. You know what I mean what JP saying. I think he's right. I think they like BArch. They probably like bartch more than I do. March didn't get most of the reps that when yeah he did and he NOI re didn't
plays beat up. I think that they have Listen, they have him in front of They see more upside Bart and they do Walston because I think they think Bart is a better athlete, can move better. Well, he is a better athlete, but the other guy is more more physical. Yeah, so I think I ultimately think they keep not spend barge and I think, uh, they try to get wall Stims on practic squad. That's a big man man. I sometimes you see guys like that go to other teams.
Ended up being a starter, you know what I mean. He gets a little seasoning and he's a big physical man six five three sixty. They pulled him a couple of times. Yes, but then he actually got outside. God, and he didn't did it. He's capable of doing it. I just think he's a tad slow off the ball. I don't know, Yeah he is. He struggled, got a holding penalty on the back side, could get his head around, you know, until that's an issue. They like bart better
Bartell making teams, it's not. And I think wall Simms is on prastict Alright, guys, let's let's wrap it up here. That was Keeping It Real presented by Woodbridge by Robert Munda. After the win in Dallas yesterday, the roster cuts coming down tomorrow officially from eight e down to fifty three and this is Jaguars Happy our j P Shadrick Pete Prisco, Tony Baselli and every week it's our favorite segment. We put out the bat signal early in the day and here are the best we've come up with for social media questions today from at flix Von Nolma. How will or should the hashtag Jaguars use Cisco and Jenkins in the regular season. At the beginning of the preseason, they
used Cisco more as a strong safety. Well, I had the impression that he played more at free safety with a second team yesterday. What do you think. I think he's more of a free safety when he's healthy and Cisco, Yeah, he's a center fielder, run great ball right and Jenkins can play the box, So I think, you know, more teams are using the split safeties now than they ever used to anyways, But I think I think that's how they'll end up playing him. How do you think Cisco
starts by October Tony Yeah, I think mid season? Yeah, I agree, I was even yesterday. You could see he has the range and they need range back there. He's been all around the ball in the preseason too, like deflections and passes defense and everything. Yeah, I think he's going to be a really good player. You know, it's just a matter of getting it seems like he's getting over that injury, and sometimes that could be psychological. But I would say by mid season, I agree with Tony
Cisco and Jenkins will be the starting safeties. Alright. Our next question from at Jags Knowles Magic, When does Maurice Jones Drew get on the wall? Well, Pete, you're on the wall. Pete is not on the wall. On the wall, I'm not on the wall. I have no idea. He's won the Great Jag Wards of all time and he's been he's been outstanding. Excuse me, my guesses. I bet you they try to get a defensive guy up there next.
I have no inside information, but if you're asking me, Maurice Jones Drew won the Great Jags all time, deserved be up there one day. Therefore, therefore he will get in and he deserves to be in there. But they're forgetting somebody from back in yesterday. Yesterday, Come on, he didn't needs to be on that wall. I don't disagree. What about Rachine Matthis one of the best defensive ever played the game? Here I think I think rashin Keenan. I think Keenan should be the next one to go in.
I know they're going to try and put a defensive player in, but I think Keenan should be the next one to go in. I'm on record of that. I pushed for it. I think Keenan then and then Maurice and then Rachine. I think that's how you put him in. I mean, if you had to rank them at their positions, who was better Bruce? Was Maurice a better running back than Keenan was a wide receiver. That's a tough one.
I would once you argue that at the corner position during his time, Machine was one of the better corners in the NFL. Yeah, it's a tough it's all. They're all close together, all three of them. And then mister will go in eventually for longevity and being a good player, But he wasn't as good a player as those guys were. Would you road that, Tony? Yes? Okay? And then well Brackens ever go in? Uhar is not long enough, No, I don't think so. Just ask the Steelers what they
think about Rashine. Mathis, by the way, our next question from at g boss nine oh four. Who is Trevor's go to guy this year? Mm hmm um it will be Chark when he gets planned. I think it's Marvin Jones. Yeah, you might, you know what, you know what, you might be right. The more I think about it, the veteran lean on him. You're right. Probably he's been reliable in camp, but really good so maybe you know, how about what about just out there's a guy that can move the sticks.
I don't think he's gonna scarry down the field. Here's one. This is a big year for d JR. It's a contract here of course. Um oh, it's a huge year. I mean for all the reasons. I mean, you had a good year two years ago down here, last year track here and called that by the head coach in the offseason. It's a huge year. Yeah. I think he's gonna have a good year. I do how huge wells with three receivers kind of splitting things. And I don't think he's gonna He's not a number one, he's not.
He's not that, he's not the elite receiver. He's not you know, the Julio Jones and and Hopkins and that group. But he could be in the next group, that the middle that you know just underneath those guys group. The problem is his body language was terrible last year, and you could tell he hated playing with that quarterback. I don't care what anybody says. He could tell he hated play with him. And so now he's finally got a quarterback. It'll be interesting to see how he responds to that.
It seems like he was off to a good start before he got hurt. So let's say I think it's a good year for him. I think he's the He's the guy, guy who could stretch the defense vertically. The other guys Marvin Jones doesn't have great speed. He's good at getting down the field, but he don't have He's more like Keenan knows how to get open and the other guy he's just a physical brute. Jane, what did
you call him today? He's a beast. He's a beast Pete, Yeah, but I means drag two guys ten years down the fields frowning, and I agree with him. A beast is a guy that scares the daylights at he doesn't scared him. The beast is DeAndre Hopkins. Julio Jones is a beast. Okay, well maybe I'm just what I guess the way I meant it is physically physically, he's physic a big physical player, Yes, no doubt about that. Who does he? Is he an
Kuan Bolden? Like we didn't put him? I mean now fair, I mean like in his first five years, like the most guys only been in leg for a year, don'ty. I'm not saying he can't be, but I just like, why do we have to like, how have don't we getting the chance to go perform before we annoint him as I'm not annoying him. I was asking the question, is he like him? Is his style like that? Yes? I would say so. Okay, now calm down a little bit. I got his blood pressure up again. Oh my gosh,
I worry about just some time. Yeah, tell us more about Walker a little while. Okay. At Duvall Underscore forty three, Jeff Cotton made some catches I haven't seen since Jimmy Smith. He looks more explosive than Colin Johnson with size at six to two oh five. Thoughts on him making the fifty three I just want to see more of those catches. Hashtag was fun hashtag duve All. Well, it's based on production. He has been better than Colin Johnson. There's no there's
no way two ways about it. The guy makes catches, he gets open, he has good body control. I mean this ended up not being a catch, but it was. I mean his ability to go find the ball when it's in the air is very impressive. And I think this is the one I really loved. How he goes off the back, stops, goes over the top of the defensive have to make the play. You know, what about that? What about doctor Harrison? That Jimmy, Yeah, I knew that. Get Pete going. That's a little much, but that's okay.
Same size though. Is he fast? Is Jeff Cotton Junior fast? He said, he's he's listed what JP six two two o five? Is that right? Um? Let's see he is six to two four Yeah, that's right. Ye. What Jimmy was nan, Jimmy was as fast as Jimmy was faster than the other guy, the other guy, fast guy in the field, whoever was the fastest on their team. He was faster. Yeah, Jimmy was fast. I'll see this. Cotton ran a four forty. That's pro day. I don't I would, I would keep him. I went to I said it
on the I said during the game broadcast yesterday. I mean the guy, the kid just makes plays. Why wouldn't you like who who's been better? To be honest with, none of them have been better than them. Nobody to keep him. And he signed late, like he signed after camp started. There was some injuries earlier and they brought him in and he's been very good. Let's get one
final question and tonight. This is from Zack Bierman. Which positions to the Jaguars prioritize on the waiver wire and what is the likely impact a waiver wire addition will have. Now that's the trick here, right, It's not going to overnight. Just Hey, we're all of a sudden the best you know, um tight end group in football with the waiver wire. There's a reason they're not playing for another team too. Yeah, but some teams have more depth of tight end. Look
at the Bucks. The Bucks cut Tanner Hudson, but they have Bronkowski, Brayton O J. Howard, and so Tanner Hudson becomes a viable player in the Jaguars system. I believe I think they should pick him up. I think he gets the football. Um, so their prioritized tight end, we mentioned it, wide receiver, running back, the defensive line. I think that's where their priorities will be in the way were claim and by the way, their first Yeah, you have the first plane. What is that for the first

The station that the Jaguars listened to ten ten XL, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Welcome back at Jaguars Happy Hour on a Monday afternoon. J P. Shadrick with Tony Vaselli and Pete Frisco. Glad you're a long for the ride today.
As the Jaguars knocked off the Dallas Cowboys in the final preseason tune up yesterday in Dallas fourteen the final Trevor Lawrence looked good. Four the five starting offensive linemen were out, a couple of receivers, himful of other guys as well, and they battled through, got down the field, got a couple of touchdowns and three possessions as the first team group. That's a good sign and a good
taste for the Jaguars. With now two weeks until the regular season begins at NRG Stadium in Houston, Week one, let's go around the National Football League and speaking of the Houston Texans, the rumors the Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson could be dealt soon. The Dolphins are one team named Pete. What are some others? There's a handful of these teams right well, Carolina was in it, but I think they said they're out now. And Billy was another one. And he doesn't want to go to Denver, so I think
that's pretty much to leaves Miami. And if you're the Miami Dolphins, how do you sell that to your fan base right now? How do you sell trading for a guy who has all those legal issues hanging over his head. I don't understand how you can do that. I wouldn't do it, and why would you rush to do it? Okay, what's the hurry? I mean, he probably. I mean, I wouldn't.
I would not trade for him right now, no matter what I mean, unless they want to give him to me like one first rounder that it's like just you, okay, I'll roll the dice because I might give a generational player for one first rounder, but I'm not giving I'm not mortgage in the future for a guy that. Let me, let me tell you what, Pete, you know this as well as I do. If these can evictions come down, he's never we might never play again. No, you're right.
If if he's convicted and we you know again, you know, we don't know where it is in the legal you know world right now, but if he was convicted, he wouldn't play again and he go to prison. First one, it's twenty two women have civil suits and there's ten that have criminal charges, right profiled criminal complaints. They're not charged. Yeah he's not charged. Yeah, sorry criminal, thank you. But again, here's the other thing. How do you sell that to
your fan base as is? Right if if you know right now, as is with all that stuff hanging over your and and by the way, if you go read a lot of this stuff, selling that to your fan base is tough to do. I'm sorry, it just is, particularly in this climate. I mean, it's look at the look look what happened to the governor of New York. I mean, and if these are all true, there's no way you can trade for him. So I don't think I wouldn't. I don't think I wouldn't trade him right now?
What are you gonna trade him? And he's on the Commissioner of the Exemple list and then he goes to trial at the end of the year and you can miss ball next year. What's the point. I don't understand why you would be thinking about it. And here's the other thing. If you the Dolpins, you had a chance today, Brian Floors had a chance to shoot it all down,
say no, we're not in that. He didn't. So if you're to the guy you supposedly drafted fifth overall because he thought he was your franchise guy, who's had a pretty good camp, by the way, in a good preseason, why would you allow that to fester? It's just bad business? Yeah, I don't know. J. K. Dobbins of the Baltimore Ravens suffered a season ending torn a c L and his left knee. Obviously a huge piece of the Ravens rushing attack last year in his rookie season, just over eight
hundred yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. That's a big blow for the Ravens. Well, it is and it isn't. And here's why. And I like J. K. Dobbins, and I watched it was watching that game live. When that happened, I knew right away. His leg got back went backwards. It was bad, and it might be worse than an A C L which is even worse. But gust Edwards comes in and he's averaged over five yards to carry in every single season. Everyone now Dobbins was more of
a home run threat. Their running game will be good. They have a young back to that they really like in Williams that I think they're gonna be fine at running back. You know all this talk about maybe they'll go get girly, Why would you go get girly, young back, young, younger, faster, fact, that's what you want. So they'll be fine running the football. It's bad for J. K. Dobbins because you never know when they're running back to. I know, medicine's come a
long way, but you never know. Yeah, It's sad. You hate to see that any time. Everyone makes a big deal because the preseason, but I mean, would it be any better for the first game of the year. No, No, just defensive lineman Carl Lawson tourn Achilles. So they traded for Shack Lawson from the Houston Tech since formerly of the Bills. Remember Shack Lawson was the one that was in the fight with Leonard Fournette Buffalo. They were barking at each other going up the tunnel a few years ago.
And then he went to Miami last year and then they went to They trained him to UH to Houston and he's just there's a big difference. Carl Lawson had really rush the passer. Shack Lawson is more of a set the edge. He's a guy. He's a guy. Yeah, he's five six, fallen into him, that's all he is. Carl Lawston was a room. That's a hit from Jack and how to replace the NFL. Who would have thought this story would have anything close to legs as early
as what three, four or five years ago? But the league has reached agreements with four sports books to become approved sports book operators for the NFL season. Fox bet, Bet MGM, points bet and win bet. And what was that ten years ago when Tony Romo couldn't do a fantasy football event? It was even ten years ago. But but here's where this is going ready in game betting.
It's coming for the National Football League. You're gonna be able to sit at your seat on your phone and pick a play and say it's going to be a run. Let me put fifteen dollars on that. The next players are run to the right. And anybody who remember, not a lot of people remember, this used to be a game called QB one that they played on Monday night. It's sports bars all over the country, and they were
linked up all over the country. And you sat there, Tony run right past right middle, I mean pass right deep, and you pished that play and if the play ended up being a pass right deep, you've got a bunch of points. And it played out all over the whole country. Well, now they're gonna play that game for money. They're gonna play there's gonna be gambling in the stadium, and teams are smart, they're gonna make a ton of money on the entire thing. First of all, we knew it was coming.
I mean I mean, I mean, this is amazing. It's slowly getting legalized across the country state by state. Um. I mean, and everyone says, what about the integrity of the game, But it's been happening for eons over in Europe with you know, Premiere Soccer League, where you can bet, you know, right at the games themselves. The only you know, the way you keep the integrity of the game, just to make sure players don't bet. And that's all that matters.
It doesn't matter what I mean, it doesn't matter if anyone else is betting, because even before it was legalized. I mean, I know, I have friends have been betting with bookies for years now. Just gonna be legal, right, Yeah, And so I agree. I think it's the NFL has embraced it because they know how much money is out there. I saw it today or yesterday, was like, they'll make quarter of a billion dollars off of that this year.
I'm betting it's a tip of the iceberg. You're gonna have betting shops on every corner eventually in these days, you know, like the Florida's gonna have legalized sports betting in October. I think because the Seminoles have agreed to a deal with them, so they're gonna have a legalized sports book betting. It'll be everywhere. The Cardinals in the Saints game and preseason Week through was canceled in advance
of Hurricane Ida. Now since Ida has made landfall and blown through the aftermath, obviously, it's just underway in the city of New Orleans and in southern Louisiana as a whole. How the now, the league is looking at contingencies of where to play Week one against the Packers. It's supposed to be at the seasons Superdome. The Saints do have only two games scheduled in New Orleans out of the first six games and seven weeks of the season, so they'd have to move if they're going to move them
somewhere only a couple of games. Well, they the Superdome didn't suffer any damage, so it's just a matter of the infrastructure of the city is okay, and so if that were okay, they could play their games there. I was actually when I was back in the day when they got displaced by Katrina. I went and spent a week or four or five days with the Saints in
San Antonio. When they got this place. Remember they play play their games in Santa They played one in Baton Rouge, I think, and then they played the rest of them in San Antonio. But um, so yeah, they'll go to maybe Dallas, like they're practicing in Dallas right now. If you could work it out, Um, they'll they'll find a way to play the games obviously, but San Antonio is
always a possibility as well. Well. First, let's let's hope that the damage and you know the latest reports, but the game, yeah, I mean, the people New Orleans would love that game to go. The SATs were a big part of the rebound in the recovery and the healing of after Katrina. So professional sports and are always a part of that and good and good good for community.
So let's just hope that they can get the infrastructure to support the city and people get power back and drinking water and you know, and you know people's homes that were just you know damaged, some destroyed. So let's get I mean, that's the focus. And I think if you're the NFL, like if I were them, i'd be quiet right now. Yeah, Like it's like there's no wait, wait, get to the weekend and like we have seen this league at the last minute because of snowstorms and everything
else moved games. You haven't got two weeks, les, you got two weeks now. It's not like I don't know, I mean, don't talk about it. Like people in New Orleans have enough to worry about that. Let's hope a few if nobody. I think it was one death yesterday, but let's hope is a few deaths at all possible. You can replace everything, Everything is replaceable, but let's hope that people didn't die. Yeah, no doubt about that. The entire the entire city of New Orleans was without power
yesterday because of the failures there. But yeah, let's let's hope everybody improves as the weeks go along here and we'll get back to that story as we go. That'll do it for our show tonight, Pete. We will see you again next week, Tony, are you gonna be here or parts unknown? Next week? Next week, um um, I will be it's labor day. It's gonna be out of town, but I'll be doing the show. Pete. We're on, We're on,
we get to we get and tomorrow's cut day. So let's see how our clutch plays we'll find out tomorrow when the cuts come due. Pete Brisco, Tony Bassellia, thanks to Joe Fortunato on the audio side, Brent Reaver on the video side, and for everyone involved, I'm J. P. Shadrick. We will catch you next time.
