It is Monday, Auguste. This is Jack this Happy Hour and now a guy we affectionately referred to as Chris Commas Kryptonite, J Peace Shadrick, Oh, and welcome in. Here we go. It's Jaguars Happy Hour on a Monday, presented by Jet Home Loans, J P. Shadrick and the triumphant return of Pete Priscoe and Tony BASSELLI, gentlemen, great to be back with you. Pete, what's going on? I'm back?

Ready for another season as weird as it's been. I mean, it's like, God, I can't even go to training care and are you ready for another beat down as you get as it was like last season on Every Monday Night where I dominated you and all takes. Talking to people before this show came out, and they were talking about how I use you and they feel sorry for you. Sometimes they wonder how a little guy can beat up on such a big man. Well, this is how we know you're lying. No one ever looked at you and

said little big head, big big body, big belly. Wrong. Your height is your height, the nerve. Look at this, look at my face. It's all drawn. Everything that's just because you have a tan. Right now, you have the South Florida Tan, the beaches right around the corner. People here, though JP looks like he's tan. Well. I have been out in the sun. I mean I have been to practice unlike you too, the last few days. So you know, yeah, it's nice to be outside, get some sun. I ain't

some sun, you know, the outside period. Since we were imprisoned for like four months. Good point, excellent point, we've been opened a little longer around here. I think down than Ben down in South is that right? Absolutely? Um? But you know what, the beach is great and it's open all you need. And here's what we're getting to tonight on the program. Of course, the triumphant return of Pete and Tony. Throughout the evening. I'm sure they'll bash on each other as they always do. First day in

full pads. Today, defensive line has a revolving door they've installed at t I a bank field for that meeting room the last couple of weeks. We'll get into all the changes there and what it means moving ahead, how to establish an offensive identity with no preseason games, only fourteen padded practices. Thirteen After today, we'll get to some social media questions that will go around the National Football League as well. Let's start with the strangest of training

camps and preseason. Of course, since we have spoken last time, the league has canceled all preseason games. There are only fourteen padded practices. If you ask Doug Moron, it's it's really eleven full padded practices. There's a ramp up period. Even with the pads on only ninety minutes today, they'll expand a little bit tomorrow in the next couple of days, so time is limited, and it's it's got to be difficult Tony to to evaluate talent in eleven padded practice. Well,

first of all, it makes no sense to me. You have basically, what is it, four weeks before opening day, and you're gonna have eleven practices over four weeks with no preseason games. It doesn't seem like enough number. Like listen, if I was there and other guys that are veterans in this NFL, like you're fine, like give me like the ten eleven practices. I'm ready to go, um and

I can go play. But this is a young football team and young guys need reps, and especially you had no offseason, no t a s. I mean, I think this is really a recipe for really sloppy football and a real disadvantage for the young teams in this league

because eleven practices is not enough. And I feel sorry for anyone who's down the roster right now that's trying to make the last five spots on the team, because how do you prove yourself and eleven paddent practices, no preseason games, no chance to evaluate um guys going against opponents in game situations, full speed. I think it's a very tough task. I think that the default position it will be for gms and head coaches to go with guys that were on the team last year and they're

comfortable with. I think it's you're not You're gonna see less um unrestricted free agents. I think you can see some guys that are late round draft picks, you know, having a harder time to make the team. Um, you know, maybe they end up on practice squad, But I have no idea why they landed on eleven real padded practices when you have this much time before the first game. Yeah, a couple of things. I talked to Cam Jordan's from the Saints today said it was great to get out

there and hit people and stuff. He goes, talk to me in about five more days, and I'll be glad that we only have a few of them. Right, That's the way it is. But here's the other thing, Tony, and tell me if you agree with this. Nobody or teams are gonna tackle. But a few teams tackle, right, and keep practice you almost have to tackle a little bit.

I think early in the season there's gonna be a lot of big plays and broken plays because nobody's tackling and you have so much limited time to prepare for the angles speed of the game tackling. I think it's gonna be a lot of big plays early in the season. I get to be sloppy, and I actually worry about injuries. I think I think one thing that is discounted, and I have no science or proof to like back up this claim, but I think I think training camp hardens

the body. I think there's a callust that happens. I think it's there's a toughness that you get ready for the regular season and you're not gonna have that. I would not be surprised if you see soft tissue injury injuries. And also because you're not used to the speed of the game, and guys going full speed, you're out of control. And what happens when you're out of control, you get hurt.

That's where injuries happened. So I hope I'm wrong. Obviously, you never want to see anyone get hurt, but sloppy football usually learns the injuries that are unnecessary and as you said, probably leading some big plays. Let's hope. I

I hope it doesn't happen, but we're gonna go. You know, if you just look at the last ten years, where we went from teams having training camps with two days and hitting and pounding and everything, the slow evolution through the cb A being renegotiated where you have limited padded practices because the head of injury concerns and everything else, and where that went um all the way now to a pandemic um shortened offseason, no preseason, to really basically

no real football as far as preparing for the regular season and the speed and the intensity that happens on a football field. It's gonna be fascinating to see how this thing goes. And you know, though NFL players and coaches are resilient, you know, that they move on. Guy gets hurt, they kicked him to the curb, and they play on. It's the same type of situation. I what about this theory, Tony, that guys are gonna be more rest because they haven't had all the work in the

off season. Remember there used to be that theory that guys got injury injuries because they worked too much on the field these days than they used to do. So there's there's both sides. We don't behaving at the time, but it's you have to be Let's make sure we differentiate between these arguments, because what Pete you're talking about. The argument is that there's no real off season anywhere. The guys are working out year round and so that's where you see uh soft tissue and a bunch of

these injuries that you haven't seen in the past. My point is, I don't think you've seen a reduction of serious injuries since the c b A. I'd love to do it. Someone has to have information and then UH study and has the statistics or in the day to to back this up one way or another. But the feeling I get it's not like we've seen a lessening of serious injuries since they went to this format of less hitting in camp and less hitting during the regular season.

I don't see that at all. I don't think they've gone down, uh tremendously since when I was playing. When you beat the heck out at each other and training can't getting ready for the season. So, um, I think JP is a little bit right. You can kind of set this argument how you want to fit your narrative. Uh, but Pete, to your point, guys getting six months off basically, maybe even longer, eight months off from doing anything football wise outside of lifting weights. Will there will we see

less soft tissue injuries? Possibly because of it. It's the weirdest It's gonna be the weirdest season. But again, what's the alternative? Don't play? Let's play? Well, if you want to be the big ten in the pack twelve, Pete, that's what you do. You just don't play. That's a whole another issue. I can't watch Arizona State when the national chance but this was their year of all years. Well, the great thing is I love about these you know schools, And I'll just go off on a tangent real quick

and you pull me back. In JP. My favorite is the big, big ten canceling football, but we're gonna have camp, We're gonna kids on campus to go to school. That makes a lot of sense. Let's bring a bunch of kids back to campus and we're not gonna test. We feel okay about the safety of those kids. But the football players who were going to test constantly and have medical supervision and people watching over them, they can't play. You're talking about hypocritical. Just takes no sense at all.

At least the PAC twelve canceled, like usc in plays like that canceled, and the in person school at all. At least they were consistent, but consistent. Here's the other thing, the Big ten and the PAC twelve. Oh, we're playing the spring. We care so much about the safety of the players, so let them play seasons over the eight months. Pete, It's so stupid. It's like, listen, I used to hate the SEC, and you know, I obviously became a fan of the SEC because my son playing in Florida State.

But I listen, I'm a Southern guy. Now, go SEC, Go Obama, go Gators, let's go. I mean, they play football, they're they're ready to roll. Um. I have to root for the Gators now. My daughter's going there. I take her to school to tomorrow. Um, and so she goes. She's a Gator now, so I'm just full Southern. Now, how did you let her go to Gainesville? It's a pretty good school. I don't know if you realize that. I know, it's a really good school. You're the all

time in Florida ripper. Your letter go to Gainesville. That's right, never never be the same. It's amazing what you know in state tuition does You're darn right. It's all about the dollars. That's all about the dollars. You know. We mentioned all these possibility of soft tissue. Once the season starts, some injuries popping up in this and that. Well, the DAGs are already beat up a little bit, guys, with

all the changes over the last few days. We'll go deep into the defensive line a little bit later in the show. But just the last couple of days. Josh Oliver fracture of foot, a bone in his foot, just running yesterday, and he'll have surgery. He's done Quincy Williams with a core muscle issue. He had surgery. It went well. Rodney Gunt, we know that story. And then large a Aworda. You can't really plan for that. Then Miles Jack was

sick today. That's not expected to be long term. But there's a lot going on right now for a football team that hasn't been in pads until today, Tony, that's a lot. Happy. Well, boy, you hold your breath when you hear guys sick nowadays, don't you. I mean, immediately you go down to the lot worst case possible scenario.

They said us not COVID related though, right that that's good, I mean, but but it brings up the whole issue we right now because of the training camp and you think, you know, guys are being smart and everything else, but you have traditional injuries and you know a little bit more on the Jaguars, and you would like this early

basically you've done nothing outside of one padded practice. Um. But that doesn't even get into the fact that you're gonna have to manage this COVID thing throughout the year and the wild changes that you could have at any moment because of a guy testing positive, even if he's asymptomatic. So, I mean, it's a tough situation. I mean, Josh, if you look at two guys last year that they really thought they got good value for in the draft. And

Quincy Williams and Josh Oliver. Josh Oliver pretty much missed all last year, was a non factor completely. Quincy Williams struggled in the transition to play that will linebacker as a rookie. But I think you're hoping for both of those to be have have impactful roles. Quincy Williams for sure on special teams as a backup will linebacker. Uh, it's supposed to player you thought he you were hoping he'd have an impact on that defense and especially teams,

being a core team player probably. And Josh Oliver it's a tight end position that boy, they haven't got right for a long time. You know, you got Tyler Iffort in the off season. Um, you're hoping that for like you know, he hasn't been healthy for very much of his career at all. Uh he was last year. You hope you can you know, build on that. But Josh Oliver is the guy they thought could stretch the field,

work the middle of the field, athletic tight end. And this will be the second year in the row in a row in his young career. You're gonna get nothing out of him. You wonder, Tony, if a guy like that's injury playing. You hate to say that, but when a guy has back to back injuries two years in a row, it's not a good way to start your career. And we've seen guys come into the league injured, injured, injured, injured, and it never gets going for him. I hope that's

not the case. But he had surgery on the foot. That does that sounds like a was it Liz Frank? Is that what it was? They didn't say. They said a bone in the foot, that's all they said. That Usually that sounds like Liz Frank. But he was in non contact just running down the field. That's two years in the row, isn't that two non contact injuries. He had a hamstring that was bad. That bad hamstring last

year affected him all year. I mean, he really never got in the field and then try to come back and had some other injury late in the year that you know, he played one or two games, and now you have a non contact injury to the foot. So you just feel for the guy. It's not like he's trying to get hurt. I think a lot of times fans and people go he's a bomb, he's you know, no good. You know, I'm not saying that. No, I'm not saying you, But that's the moniker that get hung

around guy's next. I'm not saying you. I'm just saying and I hate it for a guy like Josh Oliver because trust me, there's no one more upset than Josh right now. I wanted to get out there and wanted to participate. But doesn't it sound like if he's a non contact injury running surgery that it sounds like a Liz Frank. And I'm not I don't know that, but I'm not playing doctor like I used to do in that building. But I'm gonna maybe I am. You are

you actually are playing Dr Pete right now? You're actually saying he has a Liz Frank. I have no idea. I'm not saying he has what it sounds like. One No, that's what you just said. You literally just I said it sounds like a Liz Frank. It's very unprofessional. And I think and saying, hey, I used to do that walk up with Coughood every day. But sell he's hurt, right, he's got a bad leg. Right? Are you a doctor? Yes, it's a national um on the national you know media front.

I expect more out of you, Frankly, I didn't say he had a list, frank it said it sounds like one. Did you miss ethics. You've been around football long enough that a guy's running and non contact injury and their surgery, that sounds like a loose Frank. Let's come back. In a moment. We're gonna hear from Rodney Gunter, who is now on the reserve retired list. We'll hear about Rodney Gunner from head coach Doug Marron coming up in a moment. Or my ability to do my job? Have I taken all that stuff for granted? You know? Am I just you know looking at that as you know, Hey, I'm invincible. Um. I think a lot of times we talked about with our faith, you know, how how this game can be taken away from you at any moment for any of us. Um?

You know, so how do we how do we want to approach it. Think when things like this occur at uh at this level, you know, hey, is he gonna be able to come back, is he gonna play? Is he gonna be part of the team. Is a team gonna keep them? There's a lot a lot of other things that get involved that. Um, I think we as players and coaches, no, and and that's where we've got

to do a good job of continuing that support. Head coach Doug Morone discussing Rodney Gunter and he is on the reserve retired list after he announced yesterday that he has an enlarged a awarda that you know, he's not quite qualified for surgery yet, but it's a risky proposition for him to play football. And he announced that yesterday

you had another change from this Jaguars defensive line. Welcome back to Jaguars at Happy Hour, j P Shadrick, Tony Vaselli, Pete Prisco for the first time in twenty and it's unfortunate news for a gun to. The Jaguars have offered him an off field role of some kind. He has not accepted. It's a little early in the game and but the offer is out there. At least guys, this is another change for a defensive line that, as we've just touched on a moment, Ago, has had so many

changes already before even getting two padded practices. Pete, that's a lot of moving parts so far. You really feel sorry for the kid. I mean, obviously this is a situation that's very very serious. Uh. You know, you talk about football, but let's also talk about life here. I mean, this is something that he needs to fix and correct

for his health. Now, in a normal situation with COVID not being around, he comes in and does it physical right, and then they find that and they probably don't sign him, and he finds out about it earlier. But when did they give him the physical? That's the question. Well then, I mean they still get physical They still got physicals before they signed free agents. I mean it was it was just where you got the physical? Act did you do? But was it your own doctors who did the physical?

You know what I'm saying. So you're you're saying the game the situation his own doctors. Like I'm just saying, maybe it's they find it in a different situation. What do you think the heart went went bad between the time he signed at the time he showed up for camp. No, but again, I'm like, much like your Liz frank Like diagnosis, I don't want to like, I don't know what goes into the typical free agent physical. I would expect him to do it full. If I'm gonna guarantee a guy,

I think ten and half million ours guaranteed. I mean I'm doing a head to toe full evaluation of headheart joints, you know, muscles, everything, everything. And the question is is did the Jaguars do that? That's that's the point. That's exactly what I just said. No, you said, if you would have been here, would it have been? Would it have happened? I don't know that. The question is I don't need But the question should be, isn't a standard

protocol regardless of where you get that physical? That part of the specs of the physical per se, Like, here's the order. The order is we want a full physical, which includes a heart work up. But he say, now you gotta remember too, Rodney is from Ronney Gunters, from like central Florida area. So I believe if I remember right, I interviewed him right after and he was either in town for it or was on the way to town for it. So I don't think it was done um

on his own. I think the Jaguars were involved in this. And do we know how do you miss that? Yeah? Well before we we don't know, Pete. I mean, I think it is the long story short is but how did they diagnose it? Did he? Was he having issues health issues that led to this? Is? Like? What was there some event that said, hey, we need to check your heart because it could be this. I mean that's the other question. But it's I will say, and not knowing and so not you know, pointing the finger or

like saying anything or anyone's at fault. Maybe it was just one of those bad luck situations. Um, but I would have thought that a full cardiac work up would be a part of a physical for a free agent. I think maybe I'm wrong, I have I mean, you know, I'm assuming a lot of stuff here, But but I'll say that did you have it? Did you have physicals when you were playing for the team? Did you have full physicals every year? Yeah? Yeah, I guess we did, I think and I know I did. I didn't e

KG when e K G have caught that? The question, I don't know that I don't either, and so I'm not like that's why I'm very careful. I'm not pointing to blame. I'm not saying it's anyway. It's no. I know it's tragic that I feel terrible for Rodney gut Gut gunter is because he can't play the game that he loves and the fact that you know, I guess the silver lining is is he signed at least a significant deal, so there's a financial Um, I guess, I don't know. But if it's guaranteed, I mean, I don't

think you love that. Typically those are guaranteed for injury. Um. I mean, unless they can say it's not like he's retiring just to retire, he's retiring medical reasons. I'd assume it's all guaranteed. I don't know any I mean, we're speculating a lot, but I my guess is that in all future physicals that this is something that the Jaguars will probably check players coming in. And maybe they did and they just missed it. Maybe it was um undiagnosed

to me. One of the things that we did learn is that he does not qualify for the surgery because it's not quite enlarged enough. UM, so maybe that caused you know, it to go undiagnosed or the test missed it. I mean, who knows, but it's just terrible. You feel

awful for him, Yeah, that he's having to go through this. UM. You feel awful for the Jaguars or as an organization because they're counting on him, um to help be a uh defensive lignment, that we will get them more fortified against the run, which they were very pooroust last year and and uh struggled as we as well chronicled UM.

And so it's it's it's not good for anybody, but I think it caught all of us by surprise, and I'm sure in the future will learn a little bit more about how this came about, if there was an event or something, and it would be fascinating to talk if you could, ever I'm not. I'm sure no one wants to talk about it right now, but at some point talk to either the Jaguars team doctors or a doctors from another NFL team. That's what you should be doing, Pete,

your national guy. I called some other doctors around the league and say, hey, is this something that you would typically check for during a free agent physical. I mean it's it's a legitimate question, and I will check into it because I think you have to check the heart. How could you not, Tony? Yeah, I listen, I don't know what. I want you to get a body scan, a body scan like like like a CT scan of your body, look at your organs and stuff and make

sure you're healthy. It's really technically sound, Pete. Let me look at your organs and stuff. You know, you drink the solution and they check out your organs. You know what that is. So I think if I remember, like I had, remember the combine, you have MRIs in your back and a bunch of different parts of your body, your neck, your head and all that kind of stuff, I think it's probably Houston as a free agent or expansion whatever you were. The dumping they did of you

when you went there, Did you do a physical? Yeah, I don't remember what it was, so listen they yeah, I don't remember. I mean I did something. I remember my soul. I was so close to post off of my shoulder. They couldn't really do a good look at my shoulder, which I'm sure they wish they could have done all over again. Um post looking back. But I remember being at the hospital doing stuff. I don't remember the extent of it. I'm being honest with your whole body.

And they started the top, they would have stopped because they was so there was another but air up there. That was the first one. Was good? That was stupid, wasn't it? Dumping? Yeah? Great, a great a dumping from the look. Well, this adds to the list of changes on the defensive line over the last couple of weeks have come hot and heavy for the Jags and all different levels. Laurenti McCrae and al Wood's both opt out. McCrae was kind of the third option as a run in,

but he's more of a special teams player. He had no impact on the defensive mind right, but he's roosted as a defensive end. That's the point. Dante Bus Russell, who was that a lot of last year or an active a lot of last year. He's on injured reserve, Bryan Price, Rodney Gunter as we mentioned, and then you see on the screen there gotsus read Davis Tomorrow and today Timmy Journey and joined the team, a guy who's

been around the league for a few years. Welcome to Jacksonville first day in Pad's first day on the field for Journey again. Um, and we'll see what what he can bring on the interior this. I mean, listen, here's a couple of things. And you look at that list, ye have Adam got this that came from Denver blew out a knee. You know, he's kind of on a prove it deal. And see if his knees back and you know, and what he can do, Um post a c reconstruction. Timmy journins a guy like if you're literally

picking up guys off the street, like during camp. There's a reason. Now, Timmy Journey was an outstanding player at his peak, me a really good player. Now the question is is what does he have left in the tank? Obviously a bunch of teams didn't think very much because no one else signed him. Wasn't he Pete close to signing in Houston? He didn't. He was asked about that today and he didn't have a lot to say about it.

He didn't. He kind of about that. I don't know what that happened there, but he was close to signing and Houston. And look, he's a decent player when he's on the field. He's not gonna and the player and thirty plays the game type of guy right now, and yeah, he's they're gonna have the Hamilton has to play. He has to be a he has to be a factor in there. Well, I'll say the biggest thing that has to happen now and not that it didn't before, but David Bryant has to be a stud like he's out.

I mean, you're starting three technique and he's got to be productive, and he's gotta be good against the run, and he's got to be like a force, like like he's the guy like you're going in you start an opening day, Give me the four three four, I would say, Avery, that knows Tavin at three. I put Josh at the big end, and I think in go Oi will be signed. But then I think so listen, first of all, he fires his agent. Now he's like, there's the reason he

fired his agent. He should have fired his getting bad advice. Secondly, he's sitting there right now. Nobody is going to pay him. Like right now, if you would be interesting, I'll give you one. You wonder what to be really interesting? If the Jaguar said we're taking the tag off you right now, would anyone pay him eighteen million dollars to play? Right end? For me, they're not paying Clowney eighteen millions? Well, they played, the Falcons paid Fouler fifteen it okay, but that's my point.

Feller also had thirteen sacks last year. Correct, that's my question. A question, Pete, would anyone pay in gon Way right now if the jag Wars lifted the tag eighteen million dollars a deal that averages eighteen yeah, no, and the jag Wires offered him that and so but my point is he's the franchise at seventeen point nine. If I'm a goa, I'm signing right now me too, because no, absolutely no question about it. I don't think he's getting that money anywhere else. So that's why. And listen, Yahn's

a smart dude. Um, he played it out. Thought he could get out of here. I thought he could get a better deal. Um. I think he was probably getting some bad advice from his agent based on the market and what was out there. I mean, Clowney is in a similar situation. I mean, it's shocking to me that Clowney cannot get signed now. I think ultimately he was asking for too much money too. But right now he's an impact player, though he has been when he's been

on the field, flowny, impactful player. He doesn't wrutch the past. We had three nap sacks last year. Yeah, but I think he's disruptive. You watch him on tape. Yeah, I'm not. I wouldn't pay you eighteen nineteen million dollars either. I'm saying, you know, what does he get thirteen to fifteen right now? Yeah, I give I'd give him a thirteen prove it deal. You know, get some incentives in it. You gotta get ten double digit sacks, which he's never had. I'll give

him more money. But you're right, I think a go will be there, no question about it. Let's come back. We'll flip the script and go on the offensive side of the ball. He reminds me a little bit of Ankoin Bold and after the catch, the way he gets in and dors breaks where he breaks sackles on film. I saw that now being up close with him, he has that power of Andre Johnson. You know, I hold Andre in high regards that's my guy with good friends.

But I've all also seen him work every day. Uh see the power that he has. Uh he he kind of reminds me a little bit of of Andre. He has that type of power. Keenan mccartel, Jaguars wide receivers coach, discussing rookie wide receiver love this Chris chin Al junior high praise for the rookie out of Colorado picked in

the second round. Welcome back to Jaguars Happy Hour. J P. Shadrick of pe Crisco and Tony was Sally for the first time in will be with you each and every Monday throughout the regular season and hopefully beyond for this Jaguars team. But you know, I was walking in camp the other day a couple of days ago, and it

was the first time I had been somewhat close. We're still distanced, of course, from the players, and you can't go anywhere near them, but there are certain places on the edge of the practice field where they run nearer you than others. And that was my first up close look at this guy. And I think he's listed six one, two twenty seven. He is all of that pete and it seems to be rock solid this guy. That's big praise.

When Keenan's talking names like that, throwing those guys really big brace and when you look at his body, he looks like those guys. He's a big physical guy. Um. I don't know he runs as well as Andre Johnson did, but I will say this, the one thing that held him back in college was the only thing that held the bank college was health. He went on the field all the time. When he's on the field, he was when he was on the field as a productive player,

big physical, strong, could go get the ball. I think they might have a steel on him because if he stays on the field, they need that big physical presence there. It makes a lot of sense. And hear Keenan say that he might want to slow it down just just a little bit. He only meant, he only meant by the body type in this style. That's all. Yeah, I mean, I mean, i'd agree you know what he said, Pete. I would add that Keenan probably needs to get some

coloring on that beard, a little bit of gray. That's what I was thinking. Who is that old guy got right? Um? Yeah, listen, if you go back this and all uh the year before he came out. I mean he was, you know, one of the most powerful receivers at all college football, and a lot of people say, if you have come out, then he had been maybe a top fifteen pick. He had the what the sports turney of injury is going

his last year in Colorado limited. His explosiveness was still good, was still a productive player, but it also heard him as he's trying to get ready for the Combine, so he really never saw the speed and explosiveness that he has. He looks healthy, he looks good out there. I think it's w It's too early to start making comparisons de Andre Johnson or Ant kom Bolden, both great players, border

line hall of famers, maybe hall of famers. It just depends. Um. But boy, keen need have seen a lot of guys and he's been around a lot of really good receivers. And the one thing I will say about Keenan he does not throw around compliments um that easily. So it's not like he is a guy who speaks in hyperbole and is always pumping guys up a little bit more than they need to be. So UM, I trust Keen I think he's a heck of a receiver coach and uh and that's a good sign. And if listen, if

Snal can even live up to that praise, it's a win. Yeah. I think he has done a really good job with the receivers. I think he's a good coach. Eventually he's gonna be an offensive coordinator. Who knows, maybe down the road he could be a head coach. But but he's done a really good job with that group. I mean, look at d J. Chark. I mean he took big strides last year and I think Keaton has a lot to do with it. I always say this, Keenan was one of the best route runners I've ever seen in

the NFL. Right, Bruce Isaac Bruce was one of them, but Keenan was right there with him. He was special. And that's a great thing to have if you're a receiver, to be able to have that guy teach you. No doubt about that, and hopefully it'll pay off for Jay Gruden, new offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars, new offense, second year quarterback and Gardner Minshew. They've met virtually over the off season program, but finally they're on the field together.

What does Gruden think of his signal caller in the huddle. Well, we've mainly, like I said, we're starting installed and meeting potatoes of our offense. And Garter has been great. Man. He's had a good off season. We had the virtual off season, so we got a little jump start on it um and then he carried over until when we came back and started meeting here recently. So we got a long way to go. Yeah, a long way to go. He said. This offense is in diapers still the other day,

so a lot left to be installed and learned. But I guess what the clock's taking a little bit opening day and what a thirteen padded practices between now an opening day? Uh, that's a lot to get done, Peter in a short amount of time. A new offense, a young quarterback, a young team overall. How challenging will this be for j Gruden? Well, I think it's gonna be really challenging because clearly you want to see on the field work in in you know, May and and you

didn't get that. So it will set the offense back a little bit. And when you're young, offense is set it back even more, particularly the young quarterback. But Tony could speak to that better than I have. Tony. You just say you were starting a season and you had twenty days days, not just padded practices to get everything in as a young offense, can you get it in? Are you asking me as a veteran that's about twenty

it's about fifteen days more than I might need. Um. But again to your point, I'm talking about from a perspective of the veteran who's been in an offense for a long time, because you understand that, you understand the concepts and what you're doing and everything else. The question I have, because I agree with you, I don't think it is enough time to get everything you want in with a brand new offense with a young quarterback and

young skilled position. You're counting he's talking about some not You're gonna count him Djin Shark, young player. Um, you know you got your offensive line, some young players there, some veterans good there. I guess uh. And so I think it's difficult to get everything in. I mean, if you think about the traditional install period, especially when you have a new coaching staff, new offensive coordinator, UM is typically you you want to install the things three times.

You install them at the beginning O t A S. You install them again, uh when you're on the field stuff, so around your mini camp, and then you install the third time for training camp. And so you want to go through it multiple times to get everything in and to get everyone comfortable with the language and the philosophy and the nuances of the offense. Um. Everything has been virtual. So they did the one install over zoom. I worry about what was the attention span of guys over zoom.

I mean, I don't know about you. I mean I've been living in this virtual world that I'm doing web exits for work and everything else. And unless you're really disciplined, it's easy to have your mind drift and looking at your computer and your phone and doing different things because it's hard to monitor. It's not like you're in a meeting together. UM. And so I think, how much do guys uh pick up? How much? How much gets absorbed?

There would be interesting to really you know, first time installed in person is right now, and I think you're j grew and you have the parent path. I mean you really have to decide, Okay, what what portion? Maybe we only put eighty percent of the offense and compared to what we do in the past because of the young quarterback and the kind of the pandemic situation. We fired ourselves in Sonny the first year, you guys are

all came together. Well, if you had to be in this same same type of same type of situations, how much do the offense could you have put in? Yeah, I think I think that's my guess. It's a wild guess. And I look at that first year when we were putting everything new in UM and now was all new players, all new coaches. At least you have some familiarity with guys that you were here last year, so it's not

quite as dire. But I mean, I look at the multiple o t as we had, many camps we had, and then we went to training camp July six July. Remember that. Let that settle in for all you listening. That was six weeks ago. And so yeah, well something you flew home on a private jet, didn't have the whole training. Yeah, that's you still have some guys, some guys who work in this building now in the building didn't show up. You remember that's a different that's the

name of name Logan. He showed up July eleven. But still, I mean so, but think about and we had five preseason games. I mean, think how much time we have the insult no preseason little. I mean, I just don't think you can get it all in. I would Okay, here's the question. There's some veterans. I would say, do you point is it a way? Is there a way to point the install toward the early opponents in the season, or is it installed totally separate from that kind of thing?

Do you do you crafted to the first two or three weeks upon it? I think that's dangerous because you have to put the concepts and it's the philosophy like who you are you're gonna be good at. You have to figure that out as a coaching step, like not all players can do all things. Like I'm of the opinion that Leondard, for net, is a better back out of the eye then single back. I think he's run

better and so that determines like what you want to do. Well, that's interesting because I think Gardner mints you is better at a shotgun ben underneath, And so you have to figure out your philosophy of what guys can do, like what can so don't do he's a rookie, Like what is he comfortable? Is he good at running underneath routes? Is he an outside guy? Come back? Is he? You know? I don't know, and you have to learn that kind

of stuff. And so I think the first thing you have to do is you have to be figure out what your identity is. And the danger is is like, let's just start game planning for indeed, because guess what, you know what happens after indeed? You have to play someone else? What the Texans? Whoever we play? The second we can see Titans, Tony, do you have ever get to say you have the offense? And do you ever get to at some point during the season. Um, that's

a great question. I would guess. No, I don't think Jake Gruden put everything in this year. That's my sense, um, But only he knows that. Let's come back in a moment, We'll stay on offense and get to the offensive blind because we all I know, Pete, you want to hear Tony's take on the left tackle position for the Jacksonville Jaguars. These are what do they call those like ci ci A black sites or where like they hide people out at that they're called JP they call that right, blink twice. If you're in Milwaukee, Tony, what do they call those like like undisclosed sites? Right? The CIA is like, I'm not at liberty to say, Tony, Tony, you have you traveled at all on a plane during the pandemic? Yeah? Three uh three times? Yeah, he's I mean it stinks.

You get to wear a mask the whole time. It's like that's you know, so you know you know the way around it. I mean I wear it. I'd wear it the entire time. But the only time you can take it off is like if you you're eating or drinking, and so I take long drinks of water because it just feels good to he just eats the whole flight and why I'm so fat? But yeah, have you been in New York? No? No, I I heard it's like a ghost down. Yeah, I was in I was in

the l A actually, uh, southern Orange County. UM. And I'll tell you down by my dad's house, I was an Orange guy. It felt no different than any other time. Really. The beaches were packed and you know, very few people on the beach are wearing masks. And we didn't go out, We just ate at home. So it was that big a difference. Really strange strange times for sure. And ye, but it's interesting you. I'll give you a little COVID fact and I know we have to get out here

in a few minutes. Is um. Like all the airlines have like different rules. So like if you fly Delta, like they don't sell the middle seats and only half of first class is full, so the plane is like a little over fifty full. Um. If you fly American, they sell that thing out, every seat, I mean every seat sold. And I bring that up. So if you fly American and you go through Charlotte as you're like

hub connecting city, the Charlotte airport is packed. If you go through Atlanta because you're going through Delta's you know hub, it's empty. It is wild. The difference just because of the philosophy of the airlines and there are no flights like if I was still living in Jacksonville and had to come down here every week. There are no direct flights anymore. American doesn't have one to Miami. No dr Fort Lauderdale. Uh, Southwest isn't doing anymore. Huh no neither.

Jeff blows. You know. So it's so interesting, and I got stuck. I was I went to I was in an undisclosed location of one of my uh, dark dark sides. Uh, hope, I'm getting what is this? What is it? Wait? What is this? What we do you have? Wait? Staff? The one covert location are you at with that that looks

like an office? Between? In between questioning, I get coffee. Um. But anyways, I was in undisclosed small market playing golf and uh and we're trying to leave to come home, and our flight got canceled and we literally could not get home until like the following night because there are so few light down this place to get back. Um back, that's fine. Who said I was in Wisconsin? You've gone there before, you have the track after. I've been a lot of places to play golf, You've gone to Wisconsin.

I was not playing. I will say this, I have not been to Wisconsin this year. To play golf. Okay, the year is not over yet, Pete. Let's come back at the home moment. It's also a great opportunity and a great challenge. But these other guys to step up, you know, and if you have that happen, um, you know, that's great, especially

the young guys. You know, we're looking to. The guys that we're talking about were guys that were experienced, guys that have done it before, you know, having you know, those veteran type of guys brought in. We still have a decent mix, but now it's a little bit more of the younger guys and guys that have been here

to step up. We're not going to focus on things that are outside of you know, the building, at least the coaches and the players aren't, whereas myself and Dave and the scouts you know, will look at things and discuss things. You know. Our focus still needs to, you know, be on the players that are here, the coaches that are here, and getting the guys that we have good enough, um, you know too for us to be winning football team.

Doug moron As were the second hour of Jaguars Happy Hour, JP Shadrick, Tony Baselli, Pete Prisco training camp under way. The first day of padded practices today only ninety minutes allowed by league rules and what has continued to be a strange training camp so far. The ramp up period is complete. The guys are in pads now and then they'll expand that time the next few days and then have full practices with pads few days from now. About eleven full practices are on the docket in the days

moving ahead. But Doug Morone, there guys discussing all the changes that have happened the last week or two, especially on the defensive line for this Jaguars football team. The latest yesterday Rodney Gunter on the reserve retired list within large A AWARDA And if you're watching on at Jaguars or Jaguars dot com, you see the full list over the last two or three weeks of transactions on the d line. So a lot of new faces coming in.

Some guys that they had counted on in free agency are not going to be available this year, including Al Woods and Rodney Gunter. So a lot of unknown and a lot of change now in this Jaguars defensive line. New offense continues to be installed, and as we've talked about earlier on the show. Today, there's only a limited amount of time to get that done before opening day. You don't have any dress rehearsal games, no preseason games,

none of that. You have to go out and practice it and then show up week one ready to play. So a challenge for a young football team. And as Doug Maron said, there, hey, we've got to get these guys that are here ready and then once we get a little closer, maybe down the road, if they have to make some changes and make some additions, there are ways to do that. So there's a lot going on. Pete, this is a lot of a lot of balls in the air right now to juggle for Doug Moron and

Dave calledwell, yeah, it's a challenge. It was going to be a challenge the young team of coaching staff that had some changes. A co came back, some people thought he wasn't gonna come back, and so there were going to be challenges, and now I think there's even more. They didn't, you know, you don't expect guys to opt out like Al Woods and uh, you know, who knew there was gonna be a pandemic and Rodney Gunter situation. So on and on it goes, and it's more of

a challenge for Doug Brown. I'll tell you we I had him in on my show last week and he seems as loose as I've ever seen him, almost like he feels free. Maybe he's free of Tom Colford, but he feels free. And he seemed that way. He looks better, He lost a bunch of weight, he looks thin, looks healthy, looks seemed like he had a good approach. So we'll see. But it's a challenge. Let's be honest. This is a rebuilding year. Yeah, and I think I agree with all

things you said. The interesting thing you bring up a rebuilding year that's hard to sell and get people excited when you can't say were it's a rebuilding year after coming off seasons of what five and six wins in back to back years, And and that's the difficult, you know, kind of task that I think David Doug have right now is because the last thing anyone wants to hear

is that it's rebuilding. And you know, I think one of the reasons that um as we were explained before the pandemic that uh, Dave and Doug worked what's out of nowhere. Um that your sister bring you a tissue too, that'd be great tishing place tissue. Um. But one of the reasons that David Doug came or were stayed and retained is because they gave them the best chance. Give this guy, Clarenceon, I don't even know how to stop. It's like there's no cough nor anything in this world

we live in right now. Um, sorry, that's very one more. Please they're coming three. But you know what I'm saying. But that wasn't that one of the reasons because that they kept Doug and Dave because it gave him the best chance with the young quarterback young team to win this year and to compete for the division, to compete for the playoffs. And so I think, Pete, a lot of people don't like what you say. Well, this is a rebuilding year, and it's difficult. I mean, the facts

of the facts. Look at the roster, look at the young guys. Are gonna be forced to play the quarterbacks a young guy. I just don't see how it's anything. But now they might be more competitive in games than we're gonna give him credit for, particularly with the quarterbacks, better than you know, he was last year. But again,

on the surface, it looks like a rebuild. But P, I mean, j P, would you not agree with that's kind of the seniment coming in about keeping the David Doug and kind of what we were striving for this year, it seemed like and and and Dave talked about that the their day. He had a meeting with the media video conference and said, when you know, when they were building for seventeen, they had the understanding that this offseason they're gonna have to make some moves and some changes

and probably go a little younger. And they have acquired those draft picks, a lot of those for this year, twelve of them had ended up being so they had the idea that it was gonna be at some point the way they built that seventeen, it would come. Wait a second, now, so you're telling me in the plan, I mean there was a plan, they said, the way they the way they built that at some point you can't pay all those guys forever. Changes. I mean, okay, that's fine. I mean I think we all do that.

But to say it was part of the plan, I mean, I don't think it. Twenty after seventeen, everyone thought that you're gonna win five and six games the next two years. And I don't think anyone thought, like, hey, part of our plans acquired draft picks by getting rid of our best defensive player, Jalen Ramsey. But even now if they one ten games and then nine games and got in the playoffs all three years, but that's the contracts are still the contracts. But yeah, but that's a much different

feeling then. I'm just responding to Pete's comment that this is rebuilding. You don't typically say we're rebuilding after winning five and six games in consecutive years. That's not what you hear and want to hear and so quickly. At my point, and I'm not disagreeing, I understand what Davi is saying that when you paid high free agents and you build the way they did for seventeen, that sooner or later, you know, here it comes calling your salary

cap and you gotta, you know, make some changes. I just don't think part of those changes would ever envision, you know, not having Jan Ramsey on this roster, or not having your fighting within gokway, you know, him not being here. I mean these are two in Dante Fowler, who's the double digit sack guy, I mean, you go down the list. I'm and I agree with that you

couldn't keep them all. But to say it was part of the plan to acquire draft picks to be in this situation to rebuild, I just I mean, I have a hard time buying that. That's all. Well, wouldn't you rather rebuild to try and build something special than be seven and nine, eight and eight every year? And that's kind of like what the Miami Dolphins are doing. Now. I'll tell you what if you're asking me, I'd take eight eight right now because it was the last time

this team was eight. Nate isn't good. You'd rather be rebuild the whole thing the right way and get to ten, eleven, ten, ted consistently, not not eight and eight and then have the you know, seven and nine, six and ten seasons and no for something special. Okay, but are you saying that then you should be trying to get like two wins this year and get the first pick overall, Well, that would be a bad thing taking for Trevor Baby Well,

I guess my point. I'm just this is a response to I think it's difficult to say that after winning five and six games that you're in a rebuilding here, because really what you've been that's all I'm saying, and I'm not disagreeing with you eight and hate. If you're eight and eight over and over and over again, you never get the right pieces unless you're hit in the draft of those mid rounds, I mean the middle of the each round, which you can do. We've seen teams

do that. Not all teams go to the very bottom top of the draft and rebuild their way up. I mean you've seen the Ravens and a number of teams that availed to stay at the you know, middle to upper echelon of the NFL for a number of years um and so that's the difficult thing to pete that. That's what I'm saying. And so they had the seasons they had, but they weren't expecting them. They had veterans still in place, and like JP said, there was some high price contracts there. Now you get your rid of

those and you start building with the younger players. That's why it's more of a rebuild. I know, nobody wants to hear that. When you go fight when you win five games, but two wouldn't be bad. That means you get Trevor Lawrence. Oh, and I just do things and we let to beat this up. It's one I don't think anyone likes to hear about rebuilding after winning five and six games. And I just have a hard time

believing this is all part of the plan. I mean to what JP was referring to earlier in conversations, like this is part of the plan and we're in a good position now. I mean, like, I just have a hard time buying that that we're sitting here in seventeen saying like this has gone to didn't So what's your name, Tony? I didn't say it was part of that's what you said.

I said they knew there would be contracts coming up and they would probably have to go younger this year, and that's what they've had to do because of the situations, and didn't expect that. They paid Blake Bortles. They figured he'd be the quarterback. Come on, you pay him, you think he's gonna be the quarterback? There were things went wrong. If that was the case, then why did you ever pay? Then you would if that was really the case. Let's say that, like you knew this is what you have

to do, why did you pay Blake? You play Blake because you thought you the franchise guy. Okay, that didn't work out, And if you knew that was the case, then why did you give Nick Foles eight million dollars guarantee over four years? Like That's where I just it's it's hard for me to say, like it's almost like, hey, it didn't work out the way you want to do, and we now we're gonna start over and we're gonna go young because of contracts that we paid that you know,

we're overpriced and didn't work out to our ends. That's it right there, and that's like that's accurate. But to say, like, oh, we knew we'd be in this, then why didn't you pay these people all this money? With my question? And I think it's hard to say that and to say, oh, we're gonna rebuild now wait a second, that's what we we like rebuilding on what. Yeah, they thought two thousand eighteen was an aberration that the guys started reading their

press clippings. It went bad, It didn't happen, but they could regroup a nineteen, which is why they went and got Folds, which was a major mistake. I agree with you and then when that kept going bad, then they decided now it's time to do the whole thing. And that's accurate. And really what you find out is that seventeen was the admiration. Correct. You can't win consistently that way, playing that way in the NFL. It's like the Titans. Do you think the Titans are are legitimate championship team

this season? A legitimate Um? No, I don't think so. But I mean they went to the championship game last year, just like Jaguars did. But I think they're a legitimate, uh wild card playoff team. If I would have said that about Jacksonville in two thousand eighteen, fair, but I'm saying but if you look at it, so I guess my I've always thought that Tanny Hills probably a better quarterback than Portals. Well, he's better, how much he's too front to her yards and two playoff games and they

won because they never throw it through it. They handed off every day down and that's not sustainable. That's the point, just like the Jaguars that you and I agree on that. So just um, how as you were talking about the season and expectations everything else, I mean, every year you do your you you know, picked the games and based on the schedule. How many games? I haven't done it yet? Are you haven't done it yet? No, I'm working on it, but I haven't finished it yet. You are you close?

I'd say half they're gonna win four games at best, and they'll be competitive in a bunch of them. I think then they're just not good enough. And again, what do you what do you get Minshew, Tony? What do you think he is? We don't know, I don't know. I hope he's I mean, I hope, I hope he is. What I've heard early in the training camp from the reports of people there um that he is looking good and spinning it good and he's like taking the step

and progressing and everything else. That's what I hope he is. Like, I don't believe it. Not that don't it's not that I don't believe it, but I don't believe it until we get into the regular season because so much of that change is once you're under It's so hard to evaluate a young quarterback, you know, without being hit in the pressure. And what's the ceiling pot from an individual or is a team? Yeah? Like from an individual? This is pretty good last year. Yeah, he's pretty good last year.

And I think it's see only thirty and you know, let's say fourth and ten. Yeah, that would be a good year if that if he has that year. Do you draft a quarterback if you're in that position? What pick? What pick do I have? And who's on the board? Well, forget if you throw thirty ten Tony Deshaun Watson hasn't thrown thirty in his career. Highest number you get. Maybe if if he goes four thousand, thirty and ten year, passing on Trevor Lawrence if you have the first overall pick.

I'm never passing on Trevor Lawrence on fields. I actually seen so little of him playing, so I don't know. I mean, I haven't seen enough to be fair. Look, I'm not passing on Trevor Lawrence. Ever, I don't care if they won the Super Bowl and yeah that somebody traded for that pick, you pick them, right, you have to. He said, once in a lifetime quarterback like Andrew luck was, like John Elway was Peyton Manning once and once in a lifetime, let's come back. I think, do you think

he's that good? I do, alright, He's not alone in that Tony, that's for sure. I'm not I'm not gonna argue it. Let's come back. We'll get into the offensive line as we promised. Social questions right around the corner as well. We'll look around the ANFC South and go around the National Football League. This is Jaguars Happy Hour on the Jaguars Digital Network. We're back Taggars Happy Hour, j P Shadrick, Tony Boselli, Pete Frisco. Glad you're along with us. First Monday show of the season. It's gonna be back with you guys, and we'll get to social questions in just a moment.

But as promised, it is our Tony Boselli. Look at the offensive line and that the most notable I think battle I think right now is a left tackle if you would you even call it a battle Cam Robinson will Richardson, Um, what do you think, Tony? I mean, I think it should be. I mean, as much as I love Cam Robinson, did you do anything last year to say that you were convinced that he is your left tackle? He said he felt comfortable the last four

to five games of the season. He really felt like himself again coming back not off only that that a c LS here, but remember he injured the other's leg early in the season and missed the first two games. Yeah, and he listen. I think he's a guy that has all kinds of talent and athletic ability and toughness, and he's an asthenest about him that I loved having him on the football field. However, we talked about it last Thursday night, the footwork issues that he had pre date

in the A c L and issues. You know, you could say that early in the his second year he was not playing great football when he got hurt. Um, he struggled obviously coming back from it and then had another injury. Um. I love the toughness and the grit that he showed. Uh. And so I think, you know, based on all that, I was shocked last year they didn't give Will Richardson a chance to overtake him at left tackle, especially the way Will Richardson played in those

first two games. So I think it should be a real competition. Um. I think they should, you know, have wide open competition. Breeds, Um, you know, higher play in true competitors, which I think both of them are. I think that Cam Robbins will end up winning the job, but if I was the coach, I wouldn't just give it to him. Um, by no means would I do that. Yeah, but how do you decide who's the guy from the eleven batted practices? Yeah, that's impossible. That's the flip side

I mean. So that's why I think it's gonna end up being camp Robinson, because I don't think there's enough opportunities for Will which they overtake them. But you give him, you can only get him a couple of three games to make sure he's playing better football than you make the change. Right now, I'm evaluating, I mean the messages and I'm like, listen, we're gonna evaluate this weekend, week out.

I mean, it's a competitive process. And and obviously, at some point, if Cam plays at the level we know he's all capable of and we all hope he plays that, didn't you know, he solidifies that starting left tackle position. But until then, I give richest in the chance and to compete and practice and try to give him as

may looks as possible. But this is one of the things that this pandemic shortened training camp is gonna cause, is gonna be part of the mean one of the effects of it is hard for guys who are fighting for positions and they're not the incumbent, it's hard for them to overtake and win that job. So so you would say on opening day, Cam Robinson stocks no matter,

no matter what. Yeah. The interesting thing is and for an offensive line that was highly criticized last year and not being very productive and literally to the point where the head coach said he couldn't play Nick Foles because he wasn't he needed a quarterback who could run around and extend plays. If you remember that was part of the justification of going to um Gardner Minshew was his

ability to get out of trouble. Never what you want to hear as an offensive line, they're like, hey, my our head coach is going with the guy who can make people miss um. But but that's what he said. Um. In light of that, I think they're gonna roll out the same exact offensive line that they had last year that for all sixteen games. Well, the hope is Taylor plays looks better and he was good, but he plays

much better in the second season. You hope is that you mentioned Cam Robinson's healthy again and maybe he's picked some of his footwork issues. I think Linda is solid in the middle. Norwell has his games where he looks good. Sammy looks bad, but he's been okay. And then the right guard inconsistency has been his major problem. A j Can. One game he looks like he's a really good player. In the next game, he looks like he's not very good. Yeah, I got Ben Bart, the young kid from St. John.

He played right away though, I think, but I mean, I think ultimately that's what they like him to fight for that right guard position. He's a big, physical guy. UM played tackle and you know Division three football, So I don't think he's gonna you know, especially with no preseason or anything else, I don't think he'll end up uh in that starting lineup. So I think it's gonna be you know, Cam ROMs in Norwell, Linda can, John Taylor, sat group we have last year, Um, going into the

first week. It'll be interesting though, and I really, um, I think you got to give Will Richardson an opportunity based on what we saw last year. Al Right, guys, I know Tony, it's your favorite segment Every Monday. Social media questions questions from our listening audience. We put out the ask early in the day. Here's what we received. Let's start. I'm a man of the people. No you're not. YEA question one from at Marcus Parsley. Will the Jags rotate the rookie and Avery Jones at nose tackle at

early downs? Where will we see a big guy signing to reduce the rookies snap count? Tony is gonna play? I mean, I mean, if anyone who thinks that just because he was a you know, what was your fourth round draft pick? Um Adam while state that he's going to be the guy I mean Devon Hamilton's, I mean Avery Jones will be your starter. I think Devon Hamilton's will come in as a rotational player and maybe he

wins the job. I said it earlier. I think you're starting pour down Lineman or Josh Allen, Abey Jones, Paymon Bryant and Yanniqn Gockway. I don't think there is anyone to go get um out there that he's gonna come in and help you. The only creative thing that I heard that could be a possibility. Can you trade Unique and Gockway because you have uh Chase on Um to step up in there. Can you trade him for a big body interior defensive linement. There are guys still out there.

Isn't snacks. No Marcel Daris is still out there. Yeah, I mean, I hear funny and I think I think he's pretty much done the since I've heard that too. Yeah, I think Marcel has done a lot of money his career. Marcell absolutely has absolutely has. Our next question from at newly Bill, and this is kind of what we're talking about. A moment ago in the offensive line, do you the old line will step up this year and perform to their potential and can Ben Bart enter the starting lineup Tony.

I don't think Ben bars will start to be in the starting lineup unless there's an injury early in the season. I think he has a chance maybe throughout the season UM to have They'll definitely get him in there and see what he can do. I think it's the same five guys. I hope that they're much better and I think literally I'm gonna put a lot of it on Camer Robinson. I think Cam Robinson is a guy that just needs to continue to play up to his potential what they draft about Alabama to do, and that's to

be a franchise left back. He's been a little tune and consistent. Um he's a good powerful run blocker and his footwork in the past game which we've talked about, Jeff and I've talked about beating and I've talked about we've gone through it on film. Um, he has some real technique flaws that he has to clean up. If he can do that, I think he's an outstanding player.

And it's a big year for Cam Robinson because if he plays well, I mean he's looking at making seventeen to nineteen million dollars next year in the open market if he has a really good year at left back. I mean that's what those guys are getting paid now, Tony. Who the swing tackle'll be Will Richardson? Yep, uh, you'll keep Ben Barks. That's two Shad Lee maybe. Where who's the ninth lineman or the tenth lineman? Where these guys

coming from, I mean who knows. I mean you're gonna have a lot of guys on practice squad as well. I mean it'll be interesting, and I think they're gonna have flexibility bringing guys up and down because of COVID nineteen. So um, it's I don't think you're looking at just nine eight nine. I mean you might be looking at fourteen with the extra practic squad guys and you're keeping Before we move on from that, we were talking about tight ends. One of the problems with the run game

last year is they couldn't block. Yeah, yeah, right, And so if you look at it, and this is so before I before I get there, peak and I wanted to say something again that I just said it for the first time. Um, but it's shocked. I mean Cam Rowlson, if he had some good year, could make seventeen to nineteen million dollars. Well, he looks like you and your prime.

Then I'm talking about the kid, Uh Houston's getting Larry Tumpson's getting twenty two a year because I'm not saying he is, you know, but like, okay, if he I just said, if he comes out and has a really good year as a left tackle, Okay, would you agree he's making fifteen minimum? Yes, I mean Eric Flower's got ten a year. He couldn't block you. I mean he's getting fifteen sixteen, seventeen. It's a big year for Cam Robinson.

So I said to say that again because I said it once and I was like, wow, there's a lot riding on this year, um for Cam w and I wish him the best. I hope he gets paid. Tight End is still a huge concern for me. But they could not run the ball because the tight end issues. Josh Albert was never a blocker. He's gone. James of Shaughnessy coming off a knee injury. I don'm thinking is he out there yet even practicing JP? But you know, we know what you know, coming back from an a

C L means it takes time. You have Tyler Eiffert not never been known as a dominant blocker, you know in this league even when healthy. UM, and then you have to Tyl Tyler Davis is your UM. And Charles Jones. I'm looking at the depth chart right now. You have Charles Jones, and who else do you have about there that could even draft pick from Georgia Tech played most of his time at you John and um yeah, O'Shaughnessy was off the side today, but he's on and off

depending on the day. They don't have one. I mean, Charles Jones would probably be the one, is the one blocker, but again he's an undrafted second year player that barely played it all last year. Like again, you look at it, um and not that there was a lot of things. I mean, I guess you could have gotten into the Austin Hooper uh uh, you know, sweepstakes and overpaid for a free agent tight end. He's a big physical I

that you know maybe would have helped you out there. Um. You know there was all the complaints about uh uh David and Jocko from Cleveland. Maybe he was looking to lead, but he's more a possession guy. Uh. But my point is they haven't solved it. I mean they have if you look at this, here's an amazing thing. They let go of Marcedes Louis after the seventeen season, and Marcedes Lewis was never gonna scare you as a great receiver, but it was good red zone player and an outstanding blocker.

But I'm not mistaken. He's still playing for the Green Bay Packers. He's still in the upper echelant blocker tight ends in the NFL. And we let him go from a team that wants to run the ball and we have yet to replace him on this team. Yeah, that's one of their mistakes. Chris. You've got to be able to block the edge, and that's been a major problem. Well and and you're talking about a low price position.

I mean, I don't know what he's making a Green Bay, but a couple of million dollars in today's NFL, I mean the general public, it's a ton of money, a ton of money for the three of us on this show. We love two million dollars to do the show, um, if anyone's listening, Um. But in the NFL, you know, grand scheme of things, it's not a lot of money. And I it's for a team that wants to run

the ball, Um, it is concerning. And for a team that wants to throw the ball, it's concerning because again, where is the where is the threat at the tight end position in the passing game? Like even Tyler Eiffer, who is healthy for the first time and what two or three years last year pete Um, you still think he only had forty five catches. But he's when he's really truly healthy, he's a threat. He's a threat, but he's not gonna be a great blocker, like you mentioned.

One final social question from at Kempy under School, Ryan, and this is about the tight end. We talked about this earlier. It's a little aggressive, but is John that this is ridiculous? This is embarrassing to me. I don't think it's fair to the key it um. It's not like we don't let's not put stuff like up on the screen like this, because I don't like doing that. The young guys, well, we talked about it earlier about Yeah,

I mean it's just cold. You don't know, I don't know if it's anything, but when a guy has injuries the first two years, Tony guys starting answering the question. That's fine, but made him glass. I mean that's taking a shot at him, and I think it's uncalled. You don't like that. I know you don't like that. So on the other side, we'll do we should do something

that you really like. We should cut the team. First of all, we said this and you walked away, Pete or you weren't listening because your headset is the worst, is iniquated. The same thing I've ever seen. I don't know what you're talking about, and uh is that there's only eighty guys in camp. You're gonna keep fifty five on the active roster and sixteen on practice squad. You're cutting nine guys. Let's do it. Well, come back, we

might be cutting the roster. When we return, we will go around the a f C South and touch on all the divisional opponents. Get your social questions in next week. You know, it's kind of just a real tough and like real like sensitive situation, especially when you know we're all coming together, hasn't been around each other for quite some time, and um, we get tested daily. So it's mainly just staying safe and like

mask up at all times. I mean, I don't have to wear my mask right now, but I just know wearing it just promotes people to like make sure that they have theirs one at all times, because it's just's key. It's not really about you personally wearing the mask. It's about like helping others out around you. Well, he might

not be able to tell with the mask on. But that was Jared Wilson, Jaguars Safety and Jaguars Happy Our rolls along, j P Shadrick, Tony Boselli, Pie Prisco our first Monday show of many at hand here in the INNFL season. You know, Yeah, that's it was. He was wearing that under his helmet the other day, Pete. It's

not just in the building for him. He was actually trying that type of mask out, a normal mask like you and I would wear walking around into a restaurant or whatever, under the helmet, just to see how it works out. This is the time where guys are are trying different things, whether it's the the full face shield with advisor above there over the eyes and then the mouth and nose shield below that that Oakley has created, or a mask underneath. The first few days and helmets

are a good time to try those different things out. Yeah, I don't know how you can play with that pulled up over your nose and mouth. I would have problems with that. And here's the thing, and I don't know what kind of mask that is. But if I mean, there was a study that just came out, you know that the gators and bandanna bandanas and that looked like

a gator to me. But I don't want to speak to what kind of materials may it of, but that it's actually creates a higher rate, or it's more dangerous, or it's worse to wear a gator or a bandana as a mask because of what it does through the droplets. It actually makes them a finer air assault and they hang in the air longer than if you wore no mask at all. And so I mean, this came from Duke. This is not you know, this is not to Tony

Boselli School of Medicine. This is actually Duke, which is I didn't know we had two doctors on the show. All of a sudden, I believe it was in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. Duke University, very obviously well respected. What it tells me a mask is not a mask, and so what you wear matters. And what they're telling. What they're saying is a gay or in a bandana, and that looks like a gat

or to me. Again, maybe it's a different kind of material because the guy's in the NFL, you know, different resources or whatever. Um, But you know, just to wear it because it's you feel like it's like the right thing to do from like make sure we were in the right kind of mask. I'm with Pete as if I was a player number one year outside. UM, the risk of transmission. If you look at all the experts on any side of the aisle and any anything else.

If you're outside, you know, the ready to transmission is much much lower. UM. And I would not wear anything now. If I was told I had to wear one of those face shields, I obviously would. I'm not going to not play, But if it's up to me, I'm not gonna wear anything because of the heat UM nowhere, I'm wearing a gator uh or anything else. If I don't

have to. That would be my personal choice. Unless unless I was told by the NFL and the p A that hey, listen, we want all the players to wear these oakleff Field, mass Field or whatever, then obviously you got to do it. Now. I haven't been to anybody's facility, but talking to a lot of guys around the league, owners have spent a lot of money to try and make their facilities safe for the football players and JP.

Have you been down to the Jaguars facility. I have not been in the buildings since you haven't either, right, No, no, But like they put up all different types of uh you know, guard guard rails and uh everything, plastic weight room in the weight rooms which haven't been big enough, they made them outside for him. I mean, they've done a part plexiglass everywhere. They've done a great job, and it's an expensive thing and those tests costs a lot

of money. So let's just hope that some knucklehead on some team that's like player number seventy seven doesn't decide that he's going to go out to the bar and bask in his short shelf life as an NFL player. And I'm back in fact, everybody or sneak a female friend into the facility a dressed as a player. That was amazing. What if the star had done that when they have caught him. No, No, that's that's the greatness of coaches. Though we're consistent. We treat everybody the saying no,

you don't. Yeah, so you're telling me that if Russell Wilson got caught sneaking his wife into the facility dressed as a player, that Pete's gonna cut her eyes and it would not even have been reported, Like, no one would ever have found out about it have been buried. Um. But those guys though, to those young players at the end, But that's where you need the veteran leaders to step up and say, guys, listen, we gotta take the serious because it's affecting all of our pay in this league

and everything else. So yeah, you can't be stupid. And I take my hat off to both the PA and the NFL owners. Um, I think they hand them this really well, not easy, big economic issues in front of you. Financial ramifications based on what happens. Um a lot of

risk out there economically and health wise. And if you watch the Major League Baseball like just fall all over themselves and not be able to figure it out, and really around a sport that probably easier to manage less players, the dial of the game and everything else, and they literally couldn't figure out because the economics reasons. It was embarrassing and for me at least, I thought it was

didn't look good. And here comes the NFL, the most complex sport to play during the pandemic, the most players on the team close quarters, impossible to have social distancing when you're on the field. And I take my hat off to the Players Association and niphoners because they got it done and for the most part it was pretty

dang smooth. Obviously intense moments back and forth using the media where they needed to to get their message across, normal negotiations, but never a risk of not playing, never a risk of not starting camp on time, and the owners did a very good job of using making sure. Like to your point, Pete, I've heard it across the league that the owners invested big dollars to make sure players were as safe as possible. Yeah, but you know,

here's the difference with baseball. Baseball's traveling. You know how guys are and you know nobody wants that's you're missing my point. No travel whatever. I'm talking about the front end. They couldn't figure it out, the economics of it. You know, I agree with you there. They wasted about a month trying to haggle with each other. And but you're talking

about the test. But the testing also is interesting because remember the NFL thought that were gonna be a boatload of guys when they came back that tested positive, and there wasn't And a majority of those guys have already come back. Baseball the Marlins go out on the road and they infect fifteen guys. So yeah, I think I think that's the biggest difference. They're still in first place. You gotta be first of all. You gotta be smart too. You can't go out to the clubs and go out

and party in and bars and everything else. If you're a young guy, and I get it as a young guy, that's what you like to do. But right now in this world, if you want to be a professional and you want to play sports, you just can't do it. I mean, listen. I had an article in the break in the Roll Street Journal about the University of North Carolina just canceled all fall classes on on campus classes

a C C team, you talk about ramifications. I wonder if they're gonna even play football now, because if they're not gonna allow the regular student on campus, are they gonna football players on camps? And the reason was is because after ten days I think it was being back on campus, they're like almost two hundred or just under two hundred positive cases a thirty percent positive case around of tests they gave. Because these kids come back and their kids are like you and I, Pete and JP,

we were all the same way. You get back. You want to hang out, you go party, you know, I go to your friends and do whatever you're gonna do. But colleges, like, that's why I think college is gonna have a hard time trying to figure this whole thing out. As much as I want to football to be played, because you have so many factors and variables around kids on a campus, but this is has to be different.

If you're in the NFL, this is your job. Like my wife and I was funny, we were talking about this, and I'd love to get your guys opinion, and we were talking about, like, where would I do because you had players opt out and everything else, which I respect. And you know, every soldier, a fellow left out, will opted out, his child has has had cancer and everything else. And some guys have opted out because they have newborn babies.

I respect all that. But my wife and I asked, and I said, what do you think we would do? And basically her response was like, this is what we're gonna do. You're gonna go stay at the hotel for six months and go play football because that's your damn job. And I'll say home to take care of the kids.

It was interesting because it was like, and I'm not saying that's the right decision for everybody, but like for our family, we thought about it like because I was as we were gonna do that, I'm like, what do you think we do in And I said, I know, I want to play and she's like, yeah, you better go play. It's like your job, like go stay in hotel. We can face time to kids. You can go play football.

And because if you think about it, there's a lot of professions in this world where guys leave home for extended periods of time. I mean the top of the list of military, I mean guys out on the oil rig, I mean traveling salesman, I mean on the list. And so it's not like it's abnormal like to go like like if I had to make a decision, and it's really interesting. And this is where it gets so selfish for me to one like, a long career in the NFL is ten years, So if you don't play one year,

you're taking away ten percent of your career. That's a lot, and you don't realize that when you're in the middle of it. The second thing is if I had to sit there and look at my earning potential as a professional athlete, and I had I'll say if I was, if I was at the level of player I was

when I played the best left tackle. So I've been making twenty million dollars this year, and I was gonna look around and say, Okay, I either can opt out because maybe my family, my mom or my wife, daughter, kids, son has an underlying health issue. I can opt out and stay home, which, by the way, if you're gonna do that, that means you can't leave the house at all.

Because you're saying I'm gonna protect them, that means don't leave because of what you're you'd expose yourself with everyday life. Would I do that? Which is I respect that option? Or would I say, Hey, I'm gonna go live in a hotel for six months and I will make sure my family is not exposed at all, and I'm gonna go play football. I would choose that I would go stay in a hotel. I would separate myself from my family or anyone that that was at risk to go

play the game. Because you have such a small window in this league. Plus, like you said, it's your job. Yeah you're doing Yeah, really, that was that was the best comment. My wife just looked at me. She's like, are you crazy, it's your job. She just wants to get ready for She's gonna probably say, pretend you're playing now, go to the hotel for six months, get out of here alone. Make no mistake. I used to try me. I travel a lot. Usually this pandemic. I've been home.

She's like, isn't it time for you, like start traveling again and like go to work and new stuff and like, and she's like NFL seasons and I'm like, I might not trying for the NFL because the way they're going to the beginning. She's like, what so, yeah, I mean you're right, I'd be in the middle of like a month on the road right now. Your wife's disappointed. Let's come back in a moment. Well, uh, well, we'll touch around the a f C South, go around the National

Football League. We're heading down the home stretches. Jaguars Happy Hour on the Jaguars Digital Network. Hi, I'm Tito Beverage, Founder and master distiller at Tito's Handmade Vodka. Boy, and and Tony looks like he's really into it. I'll what do you mean? I'm into it? Baby, you're in I'm getting tight, I'm like into it. Well,

we're glad, glad you're into it? Are you? What? Are you gonna fest off and tell us what that room Isn't you get thrown in like a prison or something? Did you what did you do? It's a it's an undisclosed sight that I can't comment on. Where I am. You're up to something listen, But but he has a wait staff apparently, so that he's got that going well, I mean, are you I could have fake or I could have fake books behind me, Like JP doesn't act

like they're real. They're real books. Okay, they're book books. He never read. You have not read one of those books, Bryant. You see what I got here? Oh yeah, yeah, you just you know, only three people I have ever read read that book. Look at look at that guy in the back, but full head of hair. It's fantastic. Frisco and johnnyo Selly. You know what's even better is this one? Mark Brunel Books, South South Paul. How about where did you write that? Oh? Yeah, it was written for it

was a kid's book. And then here somewhere you blame him for running it a sack into your You ran a sack into you. I never gave the only sacks ever gave up for his fault? Did he listens? You better be nice text? Did you sell any of those books either? One? Yeah? Yeah. The problem with the first book, Jackson Richard was by the time it got out the other season. Yeah, too late. You missed the mark on it a little bit. Hey, you need you needed e books?

You get out of the book right away? Yeah, it didn't Tony JP hasn't read anything behind them show books you're talking about. Here's the other thing, like what are these footballs? Like you've never played in that organized sport in your life and you have like these football that this is Alabama. There's a World Football League ball to my left, my left, you're right, these are London balls. So this is the Bill's game. This is another one. What's the one in the case the old World Football League?

An official? That was my grandparents were seasoned taking olders for the Birmingham teams, the Vulcans and the Americans. They changed the franchises. Yes, so there you go that you did the World Football legame seventy seventy mid seventies probably right, Yeah, something like that. All right, we have plenty of weeks to go through my stuff on the behind me here

on the on the set. So here's the thing. Okay, before we go around the league, I expect every week, at some point we're in a segment, you have to pull one of the books out behind you and give us a book report that you've actually read it. I have an agreement on that. I can do that. I can do that, I can do that all right, I can do. We'll work on that. Let's go around the league. Let's start in the FC south of the Houston Texans. Kenny Still is activated from the non football illness list

and undisclosed illness. Still and cold the linebacker taking off the p U P. He had a torn a c L during the game against the Colts last year and he are they the favorite? They've won the division for out of the last five years. I don't think so. How How did they rush the pastor? And they have some issues in the secondary, the offensive line. You hope those young guys get better and they lost Hopkins. Absolutely not. Let's do power Raking. Well, let's get through the rest

of the teams before we did. In Power the Indianapolis Colts, Philip Rivers and c Y Hilton connecting early in camp, especially today, they caught three of the first four passes from Rivers. Hilton back from a minor hamstring issue, and Rivers was charted unofficially nine of thirteen and eleven on eleven sessions and Pete, I know how much you love that's stupid. Eleven on eleven stats. Yeah, I hate leven on eleven stats. Guys work on stuff and camp. You

can't evaluate that stuff. Numbers are dumb. Didn't somebody used to chart the plays there all the time? He yeah, yeah, that's dumb. I mean they don't mean anything. Go ask a quarterback what is charting? What you're charting? And they go, what are you talking about? I work on so much stuff in camp dumb. But Philip Rivers will have a good year for the Colts. Yeah, he's didna get protected for the first time about correct a decade. This is

a tough guy. Yeah, blind. I've heard through the rumor mill that the kid Jonathan what's the kid from Wisconsin they drafted running back Convin Taylor looks really good, good on offense, so we got that. The Tennessee Titans Ryan Tannehill was absent from Monday's practice, so I don't know. He wasn't in practice, he was at He was absent from their two playoff victories to Wow. The other two

quarterbacks got increased reps today. Corey Davis so wide receive or his first appearance today after starting camp on the pup. Are what's the Titans situation here? They are they sustainable? We've touched on that earlier on seventeen Jaguars. Do you think they're gonna win five games? They'll probably, they'll probably win seven. I actually think I get to define sustainable. And obviously when we say we're not really talking real money. We don't believe in gambling. On the show, it was

a figure of speech to be entertainment purposes only. I don't want to get in trouble. Uh, is like, like, tell me what sustainable was. They're gonna be the same thing they've been the last like four years. They're gonna be eight and eight, nine and seven fighting for the wild card and if they get during the playoffs, they can make your run because they're a physical, tough team.

Coach by my career, that's what they're gonna be. Huh when they go six and tenn and not make the playoffs again, you want to like have dinner on the winning more than six years. You said they're gonna be in the playoffs, I'll say they won't. No, I did not say that. I said they're gonna be eight and eight, nineties seven, fighting for a while for a spot like they do every year. Well, here's let's just say dinner. I'll take them not being in the playoffs. You take

them being in Pete different, therefore not sustainable. You won't take that, know, you said six wins? I said, anytime do you want to say dinner on sixth win? It's not sustainable. Okay, Well, do well get to define sustainable. Are they going to the playoffs this year? Yeah? I mean they're fitting. They're a coin flip. I think they're gonna for dinner. You got them in the playoffs and I got them out. Baby, we please translate to him that he said, I don't know. I got lost in

my ears. I don't know the whole thing. Let's touch quickly on the Washington football team and quarterback Alex Smith cleared to practice. Ron Rivera said he's gonna be in the mix to be the starter this year, going up against Wayne and Haskins. What a story this? Yeah, well I have a question whatever. And I was watching. I'm sorry because Pete will probably notice, but I was watching like him getting like congratulated his family, like spring champaign

on him or wherever. Yeah, it looked like it looks like he has a drop dragging and he's dragging it. Yeah, but no, but it looks like his drop foot. Because the image it did not that was not a good look and being cleared for football and being cleared for football are two different things. So I can't see him going on a field and running around and taking shots and everything else right now. Story your root for him?

Good dude. Now, maybe, like Jalen Smith played a year with drop foot, the nerve wasn't all the way back the kid from but he had a brace on there that you can play with it, and so maybe that's the case. Yeah, I don't know, but that's something I would want to know. But it's regardless. The guy almost lost his leg literally they were they were having discussions in the o R. Do we cut his leg off or not? And now he's back on the football field

of an NFL team. I take my hat off to him, as if you've ever you want to read a story, read the story about what they went through. That was amazing. Good stuff. Tony Pete, Hey, we're off and run him. We'll talk to you nextually. See from Pete Prisco, Tony Vassili, I'm J. P. Shadrick. Thank you for listening and watching. It's Jaguars Happy Hour on the Jaguars Digital Network.
